Since im in a dino mood:

today on old art i never posted here's some conepts I made like a year or two ago

so like the 2 most fun things to draw are dinosaurs and anime girls so I had a galaxy brain moment and decided to design some dinosaur magical girls (plus evil T-rex villian lady)

so like hear me out so the girls would do magical girl transformations to fight evil dino girls and then it would be like power rangers where after they are defeated once they come back in their dinosaur form and then the girls have a second magical girl transformation where they would turn into their dinosaur forms (and like power rangers there's no reason they don't do this from the start other than just because)

I didn't actually do anything with this concept but like it is a banger concept still

each girl was designed with a color in mind and i tried to get a variety of dinos (originally the Yi Qi girl was a microraptor hence the 4 wings in her hair but it felt to similar to velociraptor so i went for a different flying dino) velociraptor girl would be protag kun. The last 4 would be like characters who join the group later with the the pachycephalosaurs girl being an anti hero and the Gallimimus and Yutyrannus girl straight up starting as a villians

i wrote like 2 scenes in my head one where Yutyrannus girl betrays and fights evil T rex lady and its a cool tyrannosaur vs tyrannosaur fight and one where velociraptor girl and gallimimus girl talk about something and i ship them for it (so like gallimimus girl is self concious that gallimimus isnt a traditionally like cool dino but raptor girl cheers her up and then gallimimus girl joins the good guys)

also side note that Yutyrannus girl might be one of my best character designs ever lol (I also gave her the most clever name for an OC I've done so like her name would be Yukiko because it starts with a "yu" like Yutyrannus but also yuki = snow and Yutyrannus is accociated with snow)

He’d gasped so loud Rafe thought he was choking, then immediately launched into a list of everything he could teach the baby—how to tie shoes, how to draw a stegosaurus, how to ask for extra dessert without sounding suspicious.

That was three months ago.

Now you’re six months along, belly round and unmistakable, and the three of you are knee-deep in the world of bassinets and baby monitors and crib sheets that all come in shades of sage or mustard.

Mason is still excited. Mostly.

Except today.

Today, something feels… off.

You’re standing in the middle of the nursery—formerly Rafe’s office, now stripped of its bookshelves and leather furniture. The walls are half-painted a soft, buttery cream. There are sample swatches scattered on the floor, tiny onesies folded on the dresser, and a stack of unopened Amazon boxes by the door.

“Okay,” Rafe says, tapping his phone. “We’ve got the crib delivery set for Thursday, the mobile’s arriving tomorrow, and the glider’s backordered but they said two weeks.”

“Perfect,” you say, turning to hold up two onesies. “Stars or moons?”

“Which one is softer?”

“You didn’t even look.”

He grins, walking over to rest his hands on your belly. “I like whatever you like.”

You roll your eyes but kiss him anyway.

Mason stands by the doorway, quiet. Too quiet.

He’s holding a stuffed dinosaur, the one he’s had since he was four. His hair is messy from his nap, and he’s still in pajama pants even though it’s almost lunchtime.

“Hey, Mase,” you call gently. “Want to help us pick where the changing table goes?”

He shrugs. “I guess.”

You pause, exchanging a glance with Rafe.

Mason walks into the room slowly, eyes flicking over the tiny clothes and diaper packs like he’s not sure what to make of it anymore.

He stops beside the bassinet box and pokes it with his foot.

“Is this where she’s gonna sleep?”

“Yeah,” Rafe says softly. “Right here.”

Mason doesn’t say anything. He just sits down on the floor, cross-legged, arms curled around his dinosaur.

You don’t bring it up until later.

You’re in the kitchen putting away groceries when Rafe leans in behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist.

“He’s quiet today,” he says softly.

You nod. “I noticed.”

“I think it’s hitting him.”

“What is?”

Rafe’s voice drops. “That this is real. That it’s happening.”

You turn in his arms, resting your hands on his chest. “He was so excited at first.”

“He still is,” Rafe says. “But he’s seven. Everything feels bigger when you’re seven.”

Your heart twists. “Do you think he feels left out?”

“I think he doesn’t know what to feel. He’s never had to share us before.”

You nod slowly.

And then, because the thought alone breaks something deep in your chest, you say, “I don’t want him to feel like he’s being replaced.”

“He won’t,” Rafe says firmly. “We won’t let him.”

You find him in his room later, curled up on his bed with his dinosaur tucked under his chin. His iPad is off. His light’s dim. He’s not crying, but there’s something in his eyes that makes you want to sit down and cry for him.

“Hey, bud,” you say gently. “Can I come in?”

He shrugs.

You sit on the edge of the bed and wait. He stays quiet.

“I noticed you seemed a little down today.”

Mason picks at the edge of his blanket. “I’m fine.”

You reach for his hand. “You can tell me if something’s bothering you. I promise I’ll listen.”

He swallows, eyes still on the blanket. “You and Dad are really excited about the baby.”

“Yeah,” you say softly. “We are.”

“And the baby’s gonna have their own room. And toys. And clothes. And bottles. And special blankets.”

You nod.

“And you’re gonna read her stories. And take care of her. And stay up with her. And you already rub your belly when she kicks like she’s your favorite.”

The words hit hard. They’re not mean. Just honest. Seven-year-old honest. The kind that lands deep.

You squeeze his hand. “Mason, do you… do you think I’m not gonna have time for you anymore?”

He doesn’t answer, but his eyes fill just a little.

“Oh, baby,” you whisper. “No. No, no, no.”

You wrap your arms around him, pulling him into your chest. He goes without fighting it, sniffling once into your shoulder.

“You are my first baby,” you whisper. “You are the one who made me fall in love with bedtime routines and superhero puzzles and dinosaur facts I didn’t know existed. You’re the one who taught me how to be a parent.”

His voice is small. “But she’s gonna call you Mommy.”

You nod. “And I love that. But I love being your mommy too. Whether you say it out loud or not, you’re my boy. You’ll always be my boy.”

He squeezes tighter. “Promise?”

“Forever promise.”

Rafe appears in the doorway a few minutes later. You’re still curled around Mason, stroking his hair.

“Mase,” Rafe says gently. “Can I join?”

Mason nods, eyes still wet.

Rafe crosses the room and sits on the other side of him, pulling them both into his arms.

“Being a big brother is a lot,” Rafe says softly. “And it’s okay to feel weird about it. Or even sad sometimes.”

Mason sniffles. “I don’t want her to take my place.”

“You don’t have a place,” Rafe says. “You are the place. You’re the center of this family. Always.”

You kiss the top of his head. “There’s so much love in this house, Mason. Enough for you, and for her, and for every moment after this. You’re not losing anything. You’re gaining someone who’s going to look up to you and love you like crazy.”

He wipes his eyes on his sleeve. “She better not try to steal my dinosaur.”

You and Rafe both laugh. “We’ll make sure she knows the rules,” Rafe says. “No stealing dinosaurs, no touching your Legos, and no fighting for couch space when Finding Nemo is on.”

Mason smiles a little. “Okay.”

That night, he insists on helping you fold the baby clothes. He picks out which ones go in which drawer. He tapes his own drawing—one of the three of you holding hands with a big smiley baby floating in a bubble—above the changing table.

“Can we hang this up so she sees it first thing?” he asks.

You nod, trying not to cry again. “She’s going to love it.”

“She’s gonna love you,” Rafe says, kissing the top of Mason’s head. “Just like we do.”

Mason grins. “I’m gonna be the best big brother.”

You smile at him through tears. “You already are.”

Things you could never get away with in a public school in this day and age:

My kindergarten teacher (who was the coolest teacher on the planet) had us do construction work. He cut all the wood and brought it in, would mark where a nail should go, and come back around after we were done and make sure everything was nailed in all the way.

The playhouse ended up in a local playground, where kids could enjoy it whenever they wanted.

Other things my kindergarten teacher did:

STEM: Kept a lawn mower engine (just the engine, not the blades) on a table and let us take it apart and put it back together at will (he'd also teach us what every part was and what it did).

Crime: Showed us how to make lockpicks to break into the first grade classroom and steal some of their learn to read books because he was bored that week and wanted to teach us.

Life Skills: Showed up the first day of class with 2 salmon he caught that morning and taught us how to gut and cook them.

Non-Binary/LGBT Rights: Would come in full drag as "Mrs. Wright" and teach us lessons he thought we'd take better from a matronly figure-- but also demanded everyone show full respect to the nice lady with the beard (he was not non-binary or trans, but wanted us to learn to accept people for who they are no matter what).

Archaeology: The kindergarten had a separate playground from the main school, and he buried plastic stegosaurus bones in the sand box, made a grid with string, and gave us paint brushes to conduct a full archaeological dig. We had to draw where we found anything so a thorough record was kept.

Charity: He would throw random "Learn to cook" or "Pot Luck" days in every couple of weeks, where we'd take turns teaching everyone how we made some family favorite meal (well, the parent who came along or gave him the recipe would). A way to subtly take care of the less fortunate students, some of whom rarely got hot, nutritious meals at home.

If there was ever a person who deserved the Teacher of the Year award, it was him.

Since you have stated that the audience is basically us. ( also some weird hybrid of twitch tumblr and an actual live performance)

so far you have shown the audience being kind intentions but not really useful, ala “hey my favorite girl failure. I made you a stegosaurus” And activlely malicious with one crushing Jax on a ride.

And of course the category of schizophrenia with how one just started saying PLEASE over and over again to pomni.

Have there been any cases where the audience actaully helped the cast? Like some giving important items such as weapons and health kits? Or giving a clue where to go next?

Is the audience all bad? Or just eldritch in a way the cast can’t understand?

That first one wasn’t even my drawing I’m afraid,

And the audience is like two separate entities during day and night. You are only the day portion

And the night is the npc version that mocks and mimics your behaviors.

The audience can’t actually give physical items to them, nor would they at night. They are under the watchful eye of Sun and moon and they aren’t exactly very helpful.

The cast can’t truly understand the cast, much like how they only see them as hideous nightmarish blobs with eyes and teeth. And during the day?.. nah they’re not all bad but they’re overshadowed by the majority which is bad.

What do you think about incorporating paleoart into fantasy design? Personally I love it, I think that prehistoric creatures are great inspiration for all kinds of creatures. We have so much variety in extinct animals. I really love when people incorporate how dinosaurs look into dragon designs.

Do you have any examples of media or artists that do this? I would love more inspiration to draw from. But it's weirdly difficult to find examples of!

it's probably not what you had in mind, but genuinely the Dinotopia books do it best.

this is literally just a fantasy setting full of dinosaurs. and to be fair, the dinosaur designs are now outdated compared to the modern understanding of how they might have looked. but the reason I think it works very well as fantasy design is because of how much it meshes into the world. you can look at any Dinotopia illustration and see how the dinosaurs are as deeply integrated into the world and cultures as the clothing people wear or the architecture around them. this is a fantasy world that asked dozens of questions about how people would use dinosaurs, how dinosaurs would fit in a bustling city, how a saddle for a brontosaurus would work, etc etc, and then went and answered all of those questions! and that, to me, is the most effective way to do fantasy worldbuilding.

so, sorry, it's not quite the same as pointing at a movie or book and saying "this dragon design uses stegosaurus tail spikes really well" lol. but genuinely, this is top tier. I would love to see an updated Dinotopia that uses more accurate dinosaur designs.

and yes, prehistoric animals, especially the big dinosaurs, are amazing inspiration and reference for dragons. We need more pterosaur dragons! this planet had actual giant flying reptiles and everyone is sleeping on them in favor of the crocodilian-horse-bat standard western dragon design, which i still adore but come on. we can branch out. we can do better.

anyway the tldr is this: you can make anything work in fantasy if you ask enough questions and then give them answers. the best fantasy designs are the best because they fit into the world they're made for and give it more life and truly affect the setting and story!

Darkwing Duck [Drake Mallard]

I changed my his old redesign outfit a little bit, but it still looks the same. Because, his original outfit design in the show is always iconic to me.

Darkwing Duck in my Justice Ducks AU story: He still has a little bit some of the personality as the original show like big-ego in sometime. But, he become bit serious. Also he knows how to work more as a team and has more leadership as Leader of Justice Ducks. He and Gizmoduck become a good friend, although he still sees Gizmoduck as a rival sometimes.

Morgana Macawber

Well, I changed my her old redesign outfit looks more modern, while keeping some her witch original outfit detail looking the same as in the show.

Morgana in my Justice Ducks AU story: She still has the same personality as in the show. But her magic powers are improved, less mistakes and powerful. But, her magic powers still can make mistakes in sometimes as in the show. She can her some magic powers in battle as in the show.

Gizmoduck [Fenton Crackshell]

Okay, I changed his old design to be different from my his redesign and the original design in the show. I changed from his unicycle armor suit to armor suit with roller-skate. I designed him to look like Megaman X. I know, it looks to for Ducktale and Darkwing Duck fans, and I don't have a problem with his unicycle armor suit in the show. But, unicycle armor suit looks bit weird to me. Plus, I want made him cool.

Gizmoduck in my Justice Ducks AU story: He still has some same personality as in the show. In my AU story, he respect in Darkwing Duck and his sense of Justice. His Gizmosuit abilities still similar as the original show like flying. But it was big upgraded become more advance. His new Gizmosuit technology weapon worked similar Megaman X and Cyborg (Teen Titans 2003 ver). Especially, his arm part can transform powerful cannon blaster called "G-Blaster" (in any arms) and can produce to some other weapon tools from his arms. For legs part, it's can change to be roller-skate that can travel high speed as old unicycle armor suit in the original show, or rocket shoes that can flying and hover.

I changed the old design outfit a little bit, I designed him and his outfit looks like an cheerful and active young adult, although he became to big stegosaurus (Yes, This is how to I see Stegmutt).

Stegmutt in my Justice Ducks AU story: He and his backstory still has the same as in the show, but more cheerful and playful (as Beast Boy in Teen Titans 2003 ver). In his backstory in my AU story, main reason he work as Janitor at the Natural History Museum in St Canard, he love dinosaur much when he was kid and duck. Before he become dinosaur, Being able to work and see dinosaurs in museum the same time was little happiness for him, although he was working as a janitor at the time.

Neptunia

I changed her outfit design, but not too much. I tried to design her looks like Aquaman (her inspiration character) and Mera (Well...honestly, my her outfit design looks more like Mera than Aquaman in my opinion).

Neptunia in my Justice Ducks AU story: Her backstory my AU story, after she met Darkwing Duck in "Something Fishy", it made realize she became mutant fish, it was her fate chosen her become Protector of the sea. She got Trident and trumpet between her journey in the ocean. Her Trident abilities are similar as Aquaman like water manipulation, lightning blast and etc. in my AU.

Tsukasa is a Styracosaurus because I made Saki a Stellosaurus which is another ceratopsian and also its frill is like vaguely star shaped kinda sorta not really

I don't have much to say about him so can i just mention how awful that Stellasaurus drawing is.

Yeah only recently did i start figuring out how the fuck to draw decent ceratopsians I am so sorry (the struggle is real i almost accidentally gave tsukasa 2 left feet here i swear i know what i'm doing)

I should redo that Saki at some point, girl deserves so much better than that wonkey crap. speaking of ceratopsians i opted out of giving him protofeathers unlike Saki idk they just didn't look right on him you can kinda go either way with most ceratopsians so i just do it when the vibe fits and don't when the vibe doesn't fit

Rui is a Troodon because Troodons are often associated with intelligence because they have the biggest brain to skull ratio of any dino, there's kinda no real way to know how intelligent dinos were but troodon just has the reputation of the smart dinosaur and people often depict them using tools like how crows do and that's like kinda like how rui does robot stuff, he also just fits the raptor shape sorta i feel like raptors have that sorta look to them that is like a similar vibe to the one Rui has, even tho Rui is the tallest character in sekai I feel like he's a mid sized dinosaur, does that make sense? no, but it does to me and i make the rules he's also 100% a feathered dino so it fits

Speaking of Troodon all you 2 paleo nerds reading this are getting war flashbacks from the name Troodon because Troodon itself has a interesting history of being a "wastebasket taxon" which is nerd talk for "scientists just threw a bunch of vaguely similar animals into this one category and didn't consider that maybe this was like 5 different animals and what would be the long term consequences of doing that" yes this is a thing that has happened enough times that there is a word for it

that shit still as of now isn't sorted out I don't think, I at least based my Troodon off the big one from Alaska that literally does not have a fucking name and is just like "the Alaska Troodon". I feel like the size fits and imma be real its the Troodon you see everywhere in media these days because its big and cool and it lived with Pachyrhinosaurus and Nanuqsaurus and also people like it cuz drawing dinosaurs in the snow is fucking awesome (boom i just tricked you into learning paleontology history)

Emu is an Archeopteryx because Emu is supposed to be like a phoenix and Archeopteryx could probably fly or glide or smth it's general considered like "the first bird" so like yeah (now that i think about it i could've made her pyroraptor cuz of the name but also she doesn't fit the vibes of a raptor at all i guess pyroraptor has the whole fire bird thing from its name) Emu would also be a small feathered dinosaur for sure so it fits in that sense too.

Nene is a Stegosaurus because the plates kinda look like her hair thing and her outfit in general and i feel like nene would have those tail spikes for some reason idk it just fits her energy, she'd def be a herbivore as well i feel. Also i personally just associate stegosaurus with the color green personally idk why (at first i was thinking she would be iguanodon because that's another dinosaur that's green in my head but she has like nothing in common with iguanodon lmao)

I guess nenerobo would be an Ankylosaurus than because that would like probably be the logical robot version of a stegosaurus maybe idk would nenerobo exist in this universe, you decide idk

i guess next one is that last one unless i wanna redo the vocaloids in this style or redraw saki at some point or whatever see you whenever that happens in however long it takes
