So I don't know how unpopular of an opinion this is lmao, since I am a dirty neutral and not on either team green or team black, but the perception of Otto from both sides is very interesting and weird to me. This is related to your other asks about how the fandom refuses to engage with the medieval feudal setting and is constantly projecting modern sensibilities. I see Otto get called one of the worst men in the series, a pimp, etc. and I just.....don't get it? And do not see it that way.

Noble parents' main job was quite literally to make the best marriage match possible for their kids. Why settle for a mere lord/minor noble when Otto could get the literal king of the 7K for his daughter? Yes, he was quite older than her (in the show, in the book the age gap was not a big deal at all she was 18 and Viserys 30 iirc), etc. but a vast majority of nobles would want an older king for their daughter than a young minor noble that doesn't bring much to the plate? Is it fair to the kids? Who may want to marry for love, or a more age appropriate match? Sure, but......marriage is a business deal, a way to bring two houses together and merge bloodlines. Also, just realistically, a lot of these nobles' daughters in real life would have preferred a wealthier, more powerful noble or a minor lord as well. A woman's power is first derived from her father, and then her husband.

I'm a history buff and have read/studied this time period since I was a pre-teen and have been watching historical dramas for decades at this point. Otto really isn't some unique 'evil' or an 'evil' at all, he played the game and won by nabbing a king for his daughter. For a franchise built off of smartly 'playing the game of thrones' it's hilarious how Otto is demonized for this by both teams. Also, how was Otto supposed to predict that Viserys would be the one king in the history of monarchy in the 7K to pass over multiple trueborn sons for his faildaughter (Rhaenyra still being heir after Aegon's birth is nothing but the most unrealistic, laughable, Mary Sue plot armor by GRRM lol). For all intents and purposes, Otto should have won and Hightower blood should have gone to sit the throne for generations.

No, I quite agree with you, anon, and argued the same in the past. Otto is far from the moustache-twirling villain the fandom paints him as. He is also a second son and he has to hustle for his social status to an extent. Yes, his family is rich and that will take him far in society, but he does actually hold a job. His daughter marrying the King is quite the victory. Of course, like you said, he couldn't have known that Viserys would really keep Rhaenyra as the nominal heir - even in the show this is specifically shown to be not expected in the slightest, not just by Otto, but by the court as well. And, of course, he couldn't have known that show!Viserys would turn into the ultimate leper and have half his face fall off by the time of his agonising death. When Viserys married Alicent, he seemed a healthy man, not decrepit at all, reasonable and with a kind and jolly disposition.

Was this 100% in Alicent's benefit? Of course not, we've seen a version of her on screen that painfully suffered in a society that doesn't allow for the exploration of her sexuality. But it very well could have gone differently. In the books, there is a smaller age difference, Viserys' weight causes him health issues, yes, but he isn't actively decomposing, Alicent isn't a lesbian woman pining after her step-daughter, who is quite a different age than her, and she doesn't seem so miserable in her marriage to Viserys. He also doesn't continuously ignore his children with Alicent; at least with Helaena and her children he maintains a warm relationship, so there's no reason to think he was pretending his other three sons don't exist.

Does that mean that book!Viserys' marriage with book!Alicent was perfect, to completely exonerate Otto? Probably not, he still didn't name Aegon his heir, but it's a different, ~better outcome than the show, at least for the duration of Alicent's stint as queen consort.

Write what you want to read. Write for yourself. Take a step back when things are not panning out. I've been struggling with a bad case of writer's block recently, and I'm sticking with these right now.

I also have another, but this is more of a unpopular opinion: while it IS important to read a lot if you're a writer, it's also important WHAT you read. I was told, a few years ago, that to be a good author I have to read a wide spectrum of books. I tried, so hard, and eventually almost fell out of love with reading. Why? I was trying to force myself to read stuff that didn't interest me. So - read as much as you can, but don't force yourself to read stuff you don't find good. It will only kill your inspiration for both reading and writing. I started thriving after I decided to read only the stuff I care about.

29. What's the hardest thing about writing?

Setting up a longer story. I struggle a lot with the first 5-6 chapters, when I'm laying down the setting and feeling it out. If my story doesn't reach chapter 10, it mostly likely will get scrapped. That's why I have a rule that I only post the first chapter once I have at least ten chapters for buffer.

My writer's block atm has been so bad none of my tries have even reach chapter 7.

Mostly they come to me randomly, from the summary or it's a bit from the fic itself. My favorite titles are at least A Study in Kinks (a play on the Sherlock Holmes short story and I felt SO clever lmao), Marked by Fate, This Secret of Ours and The Bond Between Us. I have others that I like, but these came to mind first 💕

Kael'thas for the ask meme thingy please i need

favorite thing about them Okay I'll try not to write a novel here but there's so little I don't adore about Kael'thas & it's hard to choose just one thing for this lmao. Like you can tell he cared/cares about his people a LOT, he just made some very poor decisions. I love that despite everything he tries to put the blood elves first, he definitely shouldered way more responsibility than he really needed to even for their leader imo, he had other people he could have relied on to share that burden! but he didnt!

Even before the scourge or the outlands, kael had SUCH an interesting personality? Like hes sometimes this bratty childish prince that can be stubborn as hell if he doesnt get his way but he's also easily one of the most powerful mages at the time, even getting on the council of six seemingly relatively easily because of it. So he may be a bit spoiled but he definitely clearly knows how to reign himself in & be serious when he needs to be & that makes him such a fun character with depth beyond just leaning into one trait or another.

Blizzard really shafted themselves when they tossed him away, I would have LOVED to see him progress through the expansions beyond being forgotten about until Shadowlands. least favorite thing about them how blizz threw him away :) I will never recover from the knowledge that they used him PURELY to fill a raid boss slot. He had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. I guess on the other hand we probably wouldn't have nearly as much content with the triumvirate as we do but I'm still not happy about nerfing Kael like that. favorite line "This is your brain, say hello brain. I like them as friends or friendly rivals but don't really understand why there would be romance between them. random headcanon okay idk if this is gonna make sense & this is more of like a character study headcanon rather than a legit "this is how I think he goes about life" sort of thing but i have a big hc the triumvirate are just...sections of Kael. His laidback/care free traits being Hal, His leadership & determination & drive to protect the blood elves being Lorthemar, & his passion for magic & everything scholarly being Rommath. Idk maybe I'm looking to far into it but the fact Lor has reminded Rom of Kael on more than one occasion & vice versa really has me thinking on this.

If you want like a legit headcanon tho I definitely think Rommath got his humor and love of puns from Kael back from when they were younger. Kael said one (1) pun once, Rom laughed his ass off (& still refuses to admit it), & has come to appreciate the crafty wordplay of puns ever since.

Also another for you as an excuse to put it somewhere :: his title "the sun king" was actually from Illidan, back during one of their first meetings. Illidan meant it more in a derogatory way towards kael but kael thought it was brilliant & adopted it unpopular opinion i,,, actually dont like his VA in TBC. Nothing against the guy personally, imo it just doesnt fit Kael? I liked the one they used in Heroes of the Storm & SL (which i...THINK is the same person? idk im bad with remembering names but they sound similar so im sticking with that assumption) song i associate with them I have way too many actually that are just ship songs but I do associate this one specifically with Kael

Gale’s probably more of a homebody than Delvyre, but also a year of self-isolation means he’s a bit restless for social events. Then again, their time on the road I think has earned them some rest and relaxation.

Magic — studying it, researching it, testing it out. They’re a powerhouse. I also think they enjoy, like, live theater and shows. Also if that High Rollers stream solidified anything for me, it’s that they both enjoy getting pampered, so spa days/bath days are common.

They’re both night owls who like to sleep in. I do think Del’s sleep schedule is less organized though. So on a rare occasion, she might actually get up early. But Gale is not up before 10 am if he doesn’t have to be (and usually Delvyre sleeps in too). They also both go to bed like past midnight for sure.

Going to a live performance of some sorts, or a lecture series, or a museum. And then to a nice restaurant, where they can discuss what they just saw/learned and sample good food and wine.

Jewelry, for sure. They’re both little magpies, and love shiny rings and earrings and necklaces and what not. Delvyre favors gold and Gale favors silver though. Also, Del probably steals his bigger robes and snuggles with them.

Del will get very very passionately mad (insert that parks and rec scene where ben is like arguing with you is like arguing with the sun), but once all the anger is out of her, she’ll try to apologize right away and make things better. I think Gale isn’t as explosive, but he’ll need some more time to cool off/process his feelings. Earlier on, before they get the handle of, like, being in a relationship, I think he tries to smooth things over right away but that just kinda makes his annoyances fester a bit, so they both learn together how to apologize the way that makes the other feel heard.

Gale likes kissing her neck and cheek and forehead :3. Del likes kissing his shoulder and chest (right where the orb mark is). Also not really a kiss, but she enjoys torturing him with raspberries on his stomach which he pretends to hate, but is reduced to a fit of giggles.

Eventually have a couple of kids - probably two or three? They are very indulgent parents who think their kids are the most special amazing talented kids ever. Tara also eventually has a brood of Tressym kitties, which eventually become companions to their kids <3

Look, I gave them the matching true love rings you find on some corpses in Act 2, and they are never ever taking them off <3 Probably have something matching. Del probably gets some sort of tattoo to symbolize their relationship eventually (some fire and ice combo thing idk a rune or something).

it came up kind of randomly really?? it's mostly because i love the greasers (who would've guessed!) and i love to study their individual dynamics as well, and peanut and vance are. soo compatible i have so many hcs about their friendship in my drafts because they just. are, you know?

it's about, you know. the healthy friends to lovers process for me; the way both of them have always been searching for sincere love but were never really able to find it (peanut chasing johnny's heart despite everything + vance jumping from partner to partner but never being able to tie the strings with anyone) and maybe it's really just because they never looked in the right place before- each other. it's about starting from one chat on the first day of school, to enjoy going out together, to realize you trust them to be there more than anyone else. and revealing the deepest secrets without dealing with the terror of them leaving. do you see what i mean?

The first character I first fell in love with: My unhinged colonel, Horacio Carrillo. I love him and all of his war crimes. 😌

The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Okay so someone who grew on me in a major way was definitely Amado. I never disliked him, but for the longest time he was just Some Guy to me but now when he's on screen I am fully 👀 paying attention 👀

The character everyone else loves that I don’t: I feel like there's no one in OG Narcos that I dislike that people would really consider an unpopular opinion. I'm gonna tweak this a little and do a character from Narcos: Mexico because??? I can 😂 My apologies to the Calderoni girlies but I would throw that man off a roof with my bare hands if given the opportunity. And I wouldn't feel bad about it. 😌

The character I love that everyone else hates: Okay I know that he is not everyone's cup of tea, but there is something that I am just so fucking obsessed with when it comes to Navegante. I don't want him. But I want to study him. I want to put him in a big ol' terrarium on my windowsill and take notes on his behavior.

NaruMayo- Don't Ship It 1) Why Don't You Ship it- Honestly, the vibes didn't align. Idk how else to explain it, but I just got the vibes of being platonic (and I'm not gonna lie, I'm big NRMT trash haha) 2) What Would Have Made You Ship It- Other than the mysterious vibes aligning, I guess if Maya was more mature/adult, I think I would like it. They've got a great odd couple routine, but even then I don't know if I would have shipped it because I like to joke that I'm the Maya to my sister's Nick (AKA, I make her buy me food lmao). I guess I would have shipped it if I didn't immediately connect their relationship with mine and my sister's 3) Despite Not Shipping It, Do You Have Anything Positive To Say About It- I really think Maya and Phoenix's relationship is one of the strongest in the series! RyuSusa- Ship It 1) What Made You Ship It- Pretty much 1-5, especially the boat scene where they say goodbye before Susato returns to Japan. I think it's a really sweet scene, from Ryuu stopping her from throwing away her encyclopedia and thanking her for everything she had done at that point and her admitting that he saved her from one of her darkest moments <3 Some people might do a double take and think "Wait, you ship RyuSusa but not NaruMayo?" idk man, just the vibes. 2) What Are Your Favorite Things About The Ship- Oh God, where to start! I love their dynamic, they both work together really well, especially during court! They just went through so much together, and they hold the other in such high regard! I get so smiley when Ryuu talks about how capable and amazing Susato is! It's just really sweet and when I have my shipping goggles on, it's the cherry on top! They're also just soft and fluffy, I'm a softie that likes that sort of thing haha! To summarize, I love how they are equals in what they do. Susato is the first assistant I felt was really justified in being there-- she STUDIED law extensively, she knows what she's talking about! I just really find it amazing how she taught Ryuu everything he needed to know in 3 months!! One of my favorite "wrong" choices is when you meet Stronghart and you have the option of saying "Miss Susato!" when you're asked who the attorney is. Needless to say, I would play the HELL out of that game with Susato as the lead attorney and Ryuu as her assistant! 3) Is There An Unpopular Opinion You Have On Your Ship- Honestly, I don't think it's big enough for me to have seen any cold takes on it. I already did her BUT I'll answer a couple of these again:

My unpopular opinion about this character: Her LITERAL phobia about ships/sailing/water isn't cutesy or quirky, and it's certainly not funny. It's also not just basic seasickness (which seems to be a common misconception lmao). I don't know if this is still the case, but years ago people used to throw her phobia into stories as comic relief and that always pissed me off. Raine being afraid to board a ship is so unfunny to me (especially knowing she's embarrassed to even admit to having a phobia in the first place). I think that ONE "AHHH!" scene with the washtubs made everyone think it was funny (and the voice acting there wasn't great, I'll admit) but THAT SHIT WAS OUT OF HER CONTROL and knowing that just makes it SO INCREDIBLY AWFUL to think about?? Just because she can mask up enough to hide her issues from some people doesn't mean everyone in the game is too stupid to understand it. C'mon, once Lloyd figures it out he tries to reassure her instead of laughing about it because he realizes it's a deep-rooted traumatic fear. I don't really think any "fear" is something to laugh at though, so make of that what you will. Related to this, no she's not afraid of the fucking bathtub lmao.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I really wanted her to have a real conversation with Kate, actually.

a headcanon fact: I ignore the shit out of enemy units to say that pure (= monomagic/talented) healers are rare and therefore Raine's talents are rare. We know she never had any formal education but that she has taken tests before: I imagine one such case was for/because of Sybak, and that they did not want her just for her high intelligence, but also her talent as a healer to study. (Something something Boltzman's technique, something something healing being hard to study because there aren't very many people who have an innate talent for it with a high skill ceiling.)

Honestly, I don't know how I wrote that many fics. For a bit of that time I really liked someone so I channeled it into my writing. But it didn't work out, therefore!! I wrote more, and eventually shifted into Larrie mode, thank goodness. But again, it's quality over quantity, and I think some of them aren't that good, tbh.

Whatever is on your brain, dump it onto the page, and then your head is either clearer for fanfiction, or you've got a potential plot; either way, you're grounded and in the headspace for it, right? I have an unpopular opinion to share 👀 I never loved Y&B. I read it because it was a fandom classic but I struggled to stay engaged. I think my favorite fandom classic is Unbelievers. I might go reread that now actually 😶 I hope you enjoy the fic I shared!! x

Where do I start with favorite tropes? Obviously enemies to lovers & slow burn. Can’t get enough of that shit. I love a/b/o. I also love famous/famous where they’re not in one direction. Or just one of them is & the other is famous for something else. What are your favorite tropes?

When I first noticed the band wayyyy back when I definitely think Harry was my fav. I remember having a cardboard cutout of him lmao but I was 10 so I don’t remember joining the fandom clearly ): But by the time I went to see them in concert Louis was definitely my favorite. I can’t remember exactly when I made the switch but pretty early on. My mom loved the concert! I always tried to get her to pick a favorite and I remember her telling me she loved Louis’ blue eyes. She’s a Louis girl at heart <3

I listen to all sorts of music! Some of my fav artists are Greta Van Fleet, San Fender, & Declan McKenna. Do you use spotify? If so, who were your top artists?! Ugh I struggle so much with dumping words down. I always edit things as I go along rather than write a draft and edit it. tsukumo for character ask!

Oooo Tsukumo, now that was a turn around for a character

First impression

I feel like I didn't get much of a first impression for her, like it was cool to find out about another special grade, but we truly get to meet her through Suguru's perspective which leaves a negative overall impression of someone who's fucking around while others suffer and who's rather callous and uncaring about effects her words might cause. As she kept appearing here and there I kept thinking she was cool but not much else and she only recently really grabbed my attention.

Oh I'm very curious about her now. We still don't know a whole lot (I'm noticing a theme here lmao) but what we have is SO interesting. Her reveal as a former spv really just 👀👀👀👀 like HELLO PLEASE GIVE US MORE INFO. I def see her as more deep person now than I saw her before and I really like how she's set as the scientific mind contrasting Kenjaku's, I just wish we got more of her ideas. We had so many explanations of what Kenjaku's planning and what their whole deal is, I really want Tsukumo to pull out a power point and explain what she's meaning to do. In Gojo's backstory arc her goal seemed to be to teach non-sorcerers to use cursed energy and now it's to divorce humans of cursed energy, a plan that she had given up on after Toji's death. Why did she return to it, what happened in between, how does she plan to achieve this? All questions I hope we get answer to. She has been just sorta a background player for so long it will be v interesting to watch her develop and actually share what she's about (Gege dont fuck this up for us 🔫)

Favorite moment

Her not giving Tengen the time of day when it comes to other SPV's, you can really feel her anger and detest for Tengen as well as the closeness she may feel with the other SPV's even though she may have never met them. I really, I really hope we get to see her rag on Tengen more, It's so fun.

Idea for a story

I've just published Star Turner which is part Tsukomo Character study part lol curse Riko AU lol and I think that will be it for me and Tsukumo until we have more info. However, aside from the SPV reveal, one of the main reasons I've been feeling fond of Tsukumo lately is her role in Gang au prequel. Just like Toji, she's a character i started really liking once I got to writing her and she's genuinely my top three relationships with Satoru in that au, along with Toji and Yaga. The thing is, Toji is a massive presence in gang au prequel, a direct cause for many of Satoru's personality tics, and a looming shadow over the narrative even after he leaves it mid fic. Yaga is Satoru's semi-familial relation and weaves in and out of the narrative in the custom Yaga way but remains very important sore spot for Satoru as the person who preserved his humanity. Tsukumo on the other hand is a major supporting character in ONE chapter and a minor supporting one in bits of two more and that's IT. But she and Satoru get on like house on fire and she really swoops in to fill in a position Toji wasn't willing to and Yaga wasn't there to fulfill. I haven't gotten to THAT conversation between her and Satoru yet but boy I'm looking forward to it.

Favorite relationship

The hostility she feels towards Tengen is SO FUCKING GOOD like she's so annoyed and done with his bullshit you love to see it. Other than that I don't think she has many relationships hjvhvh we barely saw her interact with Todo and he's her STUDENT.

Favorite headcanon

When she says she's an ex SPV I don't think that means she stopped BEING a SPV. Like I think she's still compatible with Tengen and could be merged with him, I just think that her potential as a sorcerer was deemed bigger than her potential as a vessel and so it was a 'waste' to merge her. If true backfired horribly since she just ended up doing her own shit and honestly GOOD FOR HER.

OKAY SO!! my fave out of all of them has to be a fist full of paintballs because i LOVE the spaghetti western homage it works so well, especially with the added emotional drama of the vote to kick peirce out (also how each study group member has their own card introduction which corrosponded with their vote, i thought that was really clever) and the outfits are so freakin cool, also just annie in general that episode was AMAZING (i also loved jeff's inner turmoil about maybe not being the most attractive guy on campus. shock horror LMAO)

idk if this is an unpopular opinion or not but i actually also really love the S6 paintball episode modern espionage, i thought turning paintball into a spy/thriller/ james bond type reference was a really clever way of mixing it up, and annie and abed were kind iconic in that episode
