okay okay so some explanation:

kwazii: self explanatory really. it’s kwazii.

shellington: totally hc him as aroace and so oblivious and i love him sm for it

paani: might accidentally flirt or attempt occasionally, but most of the time is so completely oblivious. he’s got sm autistic rizz.

inkling: okay don’t come for me he has a really really nice voice okay?? i’m working through it still 😭😭

peso: okay unpopular opinion probably bc of this one wild 120k fic i read in one go but i totally think peso isn’t as naive and innocent as everyone thinks he is and he totally uses that to his advantage. like, not even with flirting, but in general like with cursing and stuff. but i feel like he’s not as oblivious as he pretends to be, and when he chooses to flirt holy shit this guy can flirt. 10/10 best twink 4ever <3

barnacles: i have. many thoughts about barnacles. but, all i will say is that he is so completely oblivious to how hot everyone thinks he is and he has sm unintentional rizz. he will accidentally flirt with like random people he helps or comes across and he has no idea why they keep swooning and calls peso over cuz he’s concerned and peso just is like *sigh*. also, i know fictives aren’t their sources but our barnacles is pretty damn close and when he first split me and peso spent weeks simping over him before another headmate forced us to sit down and explain this to him (which was one of the most embarrassing experiences of my life btw, fuck u eddie /lh)

dashi: i am a hardcore tweak/dashi shipper all the way, and while i think dashi is a very professional person (dog?), i think she’s also really good with people and knows how to use her skills to get what she wants. i think she totally worked in like customer service or something pre-octonauts and that she would charm her clients and customers almost instinctively. however, flirting for her, while common, is something she doesn’t really view as flirting flirting? like, it’s just something she does to steer the conversation in a more favorable direction. she very rarely actually means it, or genuinely tries to flirt, so that’s why she’s not where kwazii is. she was struggling with tweak though lol.

tweak: i think tweak is similar to dashi, she’s not naive and she certainly is good at flirting and probably did a lot of flirting and uh sleeping around in the past (who doesn’t love a butch lesbian mechanic), but i also think that she just. doesn’t really care. fhjffjjgdg like she likes having fun and stuff but generally outside of her video games and her inventions she does not give a shit about much lmao. not in like, a bad way or anything. she just never really saw the point of a social life yk? and the octonauts are an exception, that’s family it’s different. but she’s always had more important shit to do than playing social games.

OCTONAUTS AND STAR TREK AU

okay so before i go crazy and completely into what now consumes my life (transformers) i would like to show anyone who's out there something i mentioned - my octonauts and star trek crossover! it's basically a story where the crew of the octopod are actually star fleet officers who get stranded, due to some unknown stellar phenomenon, in the gamma quadrant, and very similarly to voyager, they have to make their own way back - it's a much shorter route, but they also end up running into the dominion, have lots of first contacts etc etc. i didn't think up much of the story part - yet?, only some of the beginning, perhaps up to being stranded in the gamma quadrant.

however, i did make some designs for characters etc using picrews! i couldn't be asked to draw much in those days. the maker is https://picrew.me/image_maker/608028 btw :)

i will write more ideas i have about the characters later in this post :)

first, barnacles!

peso: now, i had two designs - my first one ended up looking like a vulcan, but i wanted him to be a human character, so i redesigned it. then i realised that i hadn't designed any non-human characters, and started thinking about which characters could be vulcans, klingons etc, but then transformers snuck up on me... i think.

huh. looks like he was an ex borg at some point... ugh, i do not remember :(

but no matter how i reshuffled the crew, i'd always be one man short or in the wrong place! i couldn't have the vegimals running the security department??? they'd probably set the whole ship on fire!

enter my OC, Lotus! head of security :) she's very tired, her job is very demanding, especially when you're stuck in the gamma quadrant, but she loves the crew. my favourite animal is a fennec fox, so she's based off of those!

and now, for a little bit of context! what was going through my head??

there's a page from my diary/ notebook, detailing some of my ideas if you can read my handwriting... the idea was that their ship would still be called 'the explorer', formally, but is known to its crew as the octopod due to the large domes on the saucer section of the ship. as a matter of fact, i'd always plan to say this was the second octopod - the first looked like the iconic one from the series and was a mobile base for scouting aquatic worlds. both were designed by tweak.

and now, a transcript of that page! if you can understand my writing, i'm glad, i struggle to read it sometimes!

the USS Explorer is a vessel designed specifically for exploration and firsts contact situations. nicknamed the Octopod for the additional domes on the saucer section, it was designed by tweak.

the domes (pods) of the USS explorer are; 1 airponics bay (note: as in, what kes had in voyager. basically a garden), 1 extra science lab/ observatory, 2 advanced sensor arrays, 2 extra weapon emplacements, 1 reinforced conference room, 1 reinforced 'bar' area (10 forward) (note: like the one from picard's enterprise)

who the octonauts characters are in the star trek universe:

barnacles - basically picard, a model captain

kwazii - very similar to tom paris. after he and his grandfather adventured around a bit, he joined SF (note: my abbreviation for star fleet) and is well-known as a pilot

peso - always wanted to help people and see new things, so SF was an obvious choice.

tweak - always outdoorsy/ adventurous and had a love for inventing; wanted to explore and work with machines at the same time and loved the idea of joining SF. served with B(arnacles) when they were both ensigns on their first assignments

dashi - loved different communication methods as a child, from sign languages to images to verbal languages. at school, her teachers mentioned she might enjoy she might enjoy working in SF with communications. though it was difficult, dashi stuck with it and became an expert, sent into unknown territories to assist with first contact situations

shellington - always loved exploring and learning about different creatures, phenomenons etc. as he'd consumed much of terran knowledge, he decided to expand his knowledge and join SF

inkling - bit mysterious (note; translation, i had no idea what to do!). he joined SF possibly out of boredom, but is now committed to exploration and helping people.

vegimals - some eggs were discovered by shellington on and unexplored planet in an incubator. shellington, believing them to be normal eggs, hatched them. imagine his shock at them being flora/ fauna hybrids...

now, i did have many more ideas, but i only remember them vaguely, and this is just about all i wrote down! there is another part of my notebook where i write a start to the story, where the octopod sets out to the gamma quadrant from ds9 - it seems sisko and barnacles used to be friends at SF academy :)

hey, if you like this idea, take it and run! write something, fill in the gaps, go crazy! credit me if you want, but i'm not particularly fussed. and if you've read to here, whether you wanna do something with these little ideas or not, hoped you enjoyed the read :))

The Waves That Lap The Shore - Chapter Ten - Peso and Shellington and The Angel Shark

Chapter Notes

PEARL MY BELOVED!!!! I love her so much!

All im giving away for chapter 11 is that there’s gonna be some hurt/comfort stuff!

ALSO FUCK YEAH ANGELSHARK !!!(im surprised there isn’t a episode abt that tbh, unless their is and I just missed it)

I’m really excited to post chapter 12 bc something will happen >:3 I love sublime and weezer so I added some references :’3 sorry that this is so short btw Im not giving context to the artwork in this one lmao 😭

Tweak and Kwazii were playing Super Mario Brothers on Tweak’s Nintendo 64 while Sublime was blasting from the speakers.

Peso and Shellington went down to the Launch Bay “I smoke two joints in the morning. I smoke two joints at night!” Kwazii and Tweak chanted. 

“what are they singing?” Peso asked, glancing at Shellington “a sublime song” Shellington answered.

Peso and Shellington went for a swim out of boredom.

Shellington and Peso swam around on the sea floor, until Shellington heard some strange noises “what was that?” Shellington questioned, Peso just shrugged its shoulders, Shellington whipped  out his magnify glass and figured out what was making the noise. An Angelshark! 

“I know what’s the making the noise!” Shellington proclaimed, “it’s an Angelshark! They’re critically endangered! Come on Peso let’s go see what’s wrong!” Shellington guided, dragging Peso over to the hurt creature.

Shellington carefully swam towards the shark, he knew not to disturb it “hey there, is something wrong?” Shellington asked softly, the Angelshark nodded “well we’re the Octonauts! I’m Shellington and this is Peso! We’re here to help!” Shellington informed “Hi Peso! Hi Shellington! I’m Angie and my tail hurts” she frowned, showing the injury. 

Her tail was bruised. Peso took a closer look “now hold still Angie!” Peso stated,  wrapping the bandage around Angie’s bruised tail “that feels so much better!”  Angie remarked “thank you!” she said before swimming off into the distance “Bye Angie! Take care!” Shellington called, “adiós!” Peso called, both waving goodbye.

By the time Peso and Shellington got back Tweak and Kwazii were still playing video games and blasting Sublime and singing it at the top of their lungs, Peso went to the sick bay to restock some of it’s supplies and Shellington went to his lab to read a book about Lion Fish for fun.

Shellington was very invested, taking long pages of notes and doodles as a slowed reverb version of “Why Bother” by Weezer played in the background. 

However, the sound of his phone ringing interrupted his train of thought.

“Oh!” Shellington jolted up Pearl was calling him! 

Shellington picked up the phone “hello!” Shellington greeted “hey there Shellie! How’s it going?” Pearl greeted back “it’s been going great!” Shellington beamed.

The two talked for a bit, mostly catching up and infodumping, Peso and Kwazii were also with him. However Shellington had almost forgotten to tell her one thing. 

“Hey I think there’s something you should know.” Shellington began Pearl went silent, Shellington guessed she was confused “Im a fish.” Shellington dropped the bombshell “huh?” Pearl mumbled “merman..” Shellington clarified “yeah he went to these weird ass sea caves and they turned him into a merman.” Kwazii added “oh! Neat!” Pearl replied. 

“We’re not sure why it happened but we think it’s pretty cool!” Peso chimed in, after Shellington and Pearl talked for a little longer they said their goodbyes and hung up. 

“That went better than I expected.” Shellington put simply, placing his phone in the desk, Tunip waddled into the room “dinner is done!” He said “what did he say?” Kwazii mrrped 

“he said dinner is done” Shellington clarified, getting up from his chair and rushing down to the Octo-chute, Peso and Kwazii following behind.

The Vegimals had made garlic buttered noodles with some water  on the side, Shellington sat down, along with Peso and Kwazii.

Captain Barnacles and Inkling were talking about something, Kwazii and Tweak were having a conversation about Sublime, Dashi and Shellington were talking about clams and Peso was playing with the Vegimals.

I've already seen the first 26 episodes in Chinese, I literally woke up on the day of release in super detective agent mode trying to find it.

I am VERY interested in Kwazii and Paani's relationship, and excited for them to have a real rivalry of some kind. Also??? Barnacles knew Paani for half a day and was like "You. I like you. Join our gang." love that for him.

The scene where Barnacles excitedly hugs Tunip when he learns everyone is safe is so good aaaAAAAAAA he loves his crew sm

and Peso!! big brave lad.

But! do wanna say that it feels weird when they meet a land animal which is just,, their distant cousin. Like the tiger? Panda bears? Makes me wonder where the line is between animal and animalpeople but I'm probably just overthinking it. It's like the Goofy and Pluto paradox. (Inking can get away with it because he's literally an octopus but I draw the line at big cats lol). I don't mind too much though.

Captain Barnacles

Extremely claustrophobic. Hates any small space that he cannot get out of. If he's in trapped somewhere to long he panics horribly

Worries about the others if he doesn't know exactly where they are. With the amount if times they've all been separated with no real way to find each other he worries that one of them may get lost

Should one of them get hurt Captain Barnacles just. He does what he can but he has a bit of a anxiety attack later because he feels he should've prevented it. He's the Captain after all

He misses his old home. He loves it on the Octopod, but sometimes there's just. Something else that's missing.

Sometimes the pressure of feeling like. Like uhm. Being Captain and being responsible for his crew. It gets to much sometimes. Especially when something goes wrong.

Kwazii

He's very fidgety so being in confined spaces isn't great for him either.

Sometimes he feels ljke. Like he annoys the others with his tales of monsters and just. Just stuff like that

Worries that he's going to lose his crew. His family. He doesn't want to be cast away.

Gets really upset if he thinks someone is reallt mad at him. He tries to fix whatever he did as soon as possible

He does have a mysterious pirate past. Im assuming he didn't stay with his old crew. Maybe due to how he sees the world, especially sea life .

Worries that his stimming might be annoying to a degree

Has some . Mysterious scars. He says he got them in battle with a dangerous sea monster.

Gets dysphoric occasionally. Especially if he's already upset.

Peso

So much anxiety. He gets overwhelmed real easily and panics quickly. This can cause a complete shutdown or a panic attack

I believe he's the youngest on the Octopod. Because of this and a few other reasons he feels like. Like he doesn't really know his place. He's a medic obviously, but he's not as experienced as everyone else is

He worries horribly when someone gets hurt, and overthinks that soemthine might be worse than it is.

If two or more of the crew gets into an argument, the angry type, Peso has to flee to his room and lock the door. He doesn't like his friends fighting, and angry people tend to make his insecurities worse. He'll start to think its all his fault and lock himself in a loop

When he has a meltdown its . Hard to pull him out of it. He tends to fixate on just. Every thing wrong.

Peso just. Really doesn't want to let anyone down.

He misses his family. He loves his found family! But like Barnacles, he does miss his other one

Terrified of the dark. Has gotten a bit better abojt his fear but. Still hates the dark

Dashi

Dashi doesn't have break downs easily ,but when she does it's really rough

She can't be in the quiet too long because the silence just. It messes with her. Makes her feel uneasy

She tries to take things easily, but when she gets overwhelmed or angry she tends to snap at the others. This can cause problems

She's also not as experienced as say, Captain Barnacles, Kwazii, and Tweak. She's a tech expert, but she's not super used to being underwater all the time

She wishes she could contribute more to the team

She has a few chronic pains that come an go. Its really. Some days can be bad

Tweak

Tweak cant sleep. She has horrible insomnia.

This can make mornings especially difficult, and if she doesn't get enough sleep she gets bad mood swings. This can lead to fighting

They get bad dysphoria, and sometimes they just. Hate that they feel that way.

As the creator of the Gups, he feels guilty when skemthing goes wrong with one of them. Especially if a glitch or something she missed gets someone else hurt.

Sometimes they'll work themselves into a frenzy and forget just. Basic self care lkke drinking water or eating.

Tweak worries about being to blunt and hurting someone else's feelings.

Worries about not knowing exactly what tk do.

Doesn't like loud noises at all. They bother her a lot

Shellington

Shellington very much has autism! This makes it a bit harder to understand social cues and if the others are fighting he sometimes accidentally makes things worse.

It also makes it hard if things go off schedule. He gets just. Overwhelmed and . If it's really bad has a meltdown

Sometimes fears he's doing something wrong. Like , like what he says and things like that. He over thinks an gets really anxious about it

He doesn't like angry yelling, it's a trigger for him. He'll shut down or have a meltdown.

Worries he annoys the crew when he infodumps

He's glad the vegimals (basically his children) have the rest of the Octonauts to fall back on if they need something he can't provide, but it does. Hurt a little, knowing he can't help them with everything

Shellington can accidentally lock himself into his research for hours at a time. Unhealthy so. Usually the Vegimals can break him out of it but not all the time.

Professor Inkling

I cant think of much for him, other he is old. He worries that the Octonauts, that his family will be. Just . Distraught.

He worries about all of them, a lot. He knows their young anf capable but. He's seen some of the stuff that happens. Its not always a safe job

He's more or less a therapist to everyone, and does his best to listen and help then with their problems. If he can't , he just let's them have a shoulder to cry on.

Yeah I m. Km not gonna do this to the Vegimals they're kids. I cannot :(

But because that was. Upsetting and . Sad . Im gonna do comfort ones now!! Because they're a family for the Goddesses sake!! They love and support each other through the hard times. I'm not gonna go one by one its hsut gonna be. A jumble of comfort things

Here goes!!

The only one who really knows about Captain Barnacles' claustrophobia is Kwazii. It's not in his medical file for some reason. Anyway Kwazii will generally help Barnacles through a panic attack or joke with him to more or less put him at ease.

Kwazii is actually pretty open with his emotions. It's also really easy to pick up on when he's upset. The others get him gifts and littke trinkets or just spend time goofing off with him to cheer him up. Especially when he feels like he's being left behind.

Everyone does their best to help Captain Barnacles when he's just. Over worked. Or seriously worried. They let him sleep in extra or let him hover over them or just. Just listen to him and reassure him that it's OK to feel overwhelmed. They're ok, theyre all ok . During a day like that they host a movie night and take turns picking movies. All of them are there, and they have a wonderful time. If their Captain cries no one says anything anf they just huddle together and stay there as long as he needs

If there's a fight Barnacles or Kwazii usually de-escalate things before it gets too bad. If it results to yelling and Peso or Shellington flee they immediately stop and fix the situation. After wards they send someone to check on the both and they spend time calming down. Sometimes they watch movies, other times they ready together.

If Peso had a panic attack its normally Kwazii or Captain Barnacles who goes and helps. Mostly because they know how how deal with the situation better. They'll just. Sit an hug it out. Just let it all out an then afterwards they go somewhere quiet an just talk about nice things

Dashi checks on Tweak a lot to make sure she's doing ok. Skemtimes they have little sleepovers!

When Shellington gets overwhelmed the vegimals will jsut sit with him and ask questions about sea life!

[btw while these are all my special interests, if i refer to them as hyperfixations/focuses that’s in reference to whether i’m currently paying the most attention to them or they’re quietly at the back of my mind, but still free to come out at full force if provoked hehe]

- Main one I’m fixating on currently is Sonic of course !!! Specifically because of the upcoming movie (ofc), but I’m otherwise mainly here for the IDW comics, GORGEOUS ARTWORK (whether official or by fans!!), and everything surrounding my boy Knuckles >:]

- The last huge fixation I had that I’m...honestly ITCHING to get back to as soon as new content drops...is Octonauts!!! Thing literally consumed my entire 2021 for the most part. Any regrets? Absolutely no- oh wait I have One, and that’s actually reaching the point where I found every single piece of content online, to the extent of wayback machine-ing to meomi’s Early 2000s website and rummaging through as many old tweets with niche factoids as possible..aha. trans kwazii truthers i was the one that dug out those old tweets. okay moving on so I can stop talking about how dedicated I am to a preschool show

- Unikitty!! The show!! it’s a fairly retired interest of mine but at least thrice a year I rewatch my favourite episodes and write another 3 essays on Master Alan Frown ☹️ I miss these guys my LEGO SpIn almost practically died with them if it weren’t for Ninjago not kicking the bucket yet

- Yo-Kai Watch is !! Another fairly retired one SORT OF??? Usually I just go back only for the good character designs and also Whisper. I love Whisper. I’ll save him from the fact that he’s one of those autistic coded characters that’s so HARMLESS and LOVEABLE but is treated like utter shit in-universe and by the fourth wall !!! He’s coming with me !!! BUT...I hyperfocused SUPER HARD on completing the third game late 2020, and I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a piece of media where I had to warm up to the characters over time through their slow-paced development and not instantaneously so much. It completely changed the way I consume media, even making me a little more easy to hit emotionally with sad scenes and angst??? It impacted me a lot ig!! Wow!!

BUT yeah I think those are my main interests you’d typically see pop up on my various accounts this past year 😁👍 really normal. Totally. Eheh

No Nap! AN: Thank you! I’m sorry about the delay, I hope you enjoy! 

“Lo, buddy, I know you don’t want to go to bed but-” “No!”

Patton sighed. He’d been trying to convince Logan to take a short nap, just a short one!, for an hour. Logan was sick and had regressed earlier that morning. The poor little was absolutely miserable, coughing and sneezing almost non-stop. He’d even cuddled up to Patton while they were watching a movie together - something almost uncharacteristic for the usually reclusive regressor.

 As soon as he had tried to carry Logan to bed, however, he’d absolutely refused to lay down and had flopped onto the bedroom floor.

That led to their current predicament. 

“Lo, sweetstar, I know you don’t feel well and I know you don’t want a nap. Just think though, your body heals faster when you rest. You could be better after a quick wink!”

“Nuh-uh!” Logan stuck out his bottom lip and turned away from Patton. “Dun’ work that way. Gon be a long nap. Bad nap!” His voice was creeping scarily close to full-on tantrum territory. 

“Logan Sanders-” Logan flopped onto his stomach, smashing his face into the star-covered carpet. 

Patton bit back the urge to throw his own tantrum.

“Logan? Can you please come lay down?” Not a sound. 

“Please? For Papa Pat?” A grunt and he shuffled away from Patton.

“Having troubles, Patton?” Roman leaned against the door frame with an almost amused smile on his face. 

Morality sighed and nodded. “Lo isn’t feeling well and I thought a nap would help, but-”

Logan tucked himself under the bed with an angry sigh. “No nap,” he muttered loudly.

Roman tried to bite back his own laughter and failed to suppress a chuckle. Patton glared at the other. 

“If you two are done playing ‘Watch the Baby’, then I want to give it a shot.” Virgil snuck around a still-laughing Roman and knelt down in front of the bed. 

“Lo? Bud? What’s wrong?” Logan gave a small ‘harrumph’ and turned teary eyes to face him. “Don’ feel good. Don’ wanna nap.” 

“Aw, I know how that feels. Being sick sucks, huh?” Logan nodded and absentmindedly put a thumb into his mouth. “How about you and I make a blanket fort in the living room and we watch some cartoons, ok?” 

Logan narrowed his eyes. “No nap.” “Nope, no nap. I promise.” 

Satisfied, Logan crawled out from under the bed and put his arms out. “Up.”

Only ten minutes into The Octonauts Logan fell asleep. 

Patton came into the room and gasped at the sight. “How did you do that?! I was trying for over an hour!”

Virgil smiled. “I usually help Remus when he’s regressed.” “Enough said,” Patton chuckled. 

“Well, I’ll let you two rest.” “Yeah, we’ll be here awhile. He was exhausted.” 

Logan snuggled closer to Virgil’s chest with a content sigh. 

Yep, he definitely needed a nap.

Virgil felt something wet fall onto his chest as Logan snored loudly.

He also needed tissues. Definitely.
