i'm hyperfixating on the sims again and i love two of my Sims in particular rn
because i can't play sims like a normal person I started the "Great British History" challenge. Basically you start in the Iron Age and go all the way to the 2000s. Idk how far I'll make it but I'd like to at least play a few generations/make it to the Tudor era so I can build a castle. I usually only make it to the grandkids on a file and then get bored and start over. Hopefully this changes things up enough that it'll keep me entertained.
ANYWAY.
My founder Sim Gwendolyn died in an event roll I did and it was very tragic and sad, but her husband Aidan has literally survived every single thing the challenge has thrown at him and just won't die. (Not that I want him too, but considering how many other Sims have died so far it's sort of a miracle lmao)
Anyway his grandson, Finn, is likely going to be the heir for this generation because I think he's a cutie, and also he isn't a mage. (Playing as a caster is fun, but I want to try and max out everything in the skill tree and trying to do that and stay on top of all the other things I have to do in the challenge is difficult)
I was actually actively playing as Finn's dad because he was two fish away from finishing the Angling Ace aspiration and I realized Finn and Aidan had been talking the whooole time Finn's dad was fishing and had maxed out their relationship bar.
Finn is actually the only "child" age Sim in the game rn because everyone else has aged up so there's no one his age and he doesn't really have a relationship bar with any of the other now teens. (might have to give him the loner trait when he ages up lol)
So I had Finn ask Aidan to be his best friend, and he of course said yes and its adorable to watch him be a good grandpa, but I am not ready for the heartbreak of Aidan aging up to Elder and dying because Aidan is like one sim week away from aging up and it's gonna be so fucking SAD
Anyway here they are stargazing because it's cute.

STOP THE FUCKING CAR I JUST HAD AN IDEA
Mabel Pines is Jonathan Sims coded (at least mag160 and after)
They both get tricked into starting the apocalypse led by a powerful entity with a thing for eyes, and they both feel guilty about it and blame themselves (though that bit is more fanon-leaning for Mabel. Unless there's a bit I just forgot about or it's in the books idk)
After the start of the apocalypse, both are in a situation where they actually enjoy themselves to some degree. Mabel in Mabeland, and Jon being the Eye's specialest little boy/the fucking Antichrist.
They try to end the apocalypse but something goes wrong (<- the Power of Friendship wasn't enough) and they need a change of plans. And that new plan is to sacrifice someone for the greater good of their world.

me when jonathan sims </3
sitting in class zoning out completely and entirely bc i already know the subject matter but then someone says something that vaguely reminds me of jonny and my head snaps up and i go ‘oh hey have you heard of the magnus archives’ and when they shake their head i have to analyze them for a moment to see if they’ll make fun of me or not but when i see they Won’t i begin to infodump (or just tell them the basic plot & that it’s really good bc my brain goes so fast that my mouth can’t even begin to keep up sometimes) about it like a Completely Normal Teenager who is very Neurotypical
i frequently take naps in my math class and/or stare off into nothing whilst jonathan sims takes up 99% of my brain space

Thought it would be fun to do an intro post for each of the three households I'll be rotating through in my historic sims file. Also told my buddy @schitzophrenicrainbows I would make one of these. It'll also help me keep things organized as I play the challenge since I'm committing details to writing.
Up first and beneath the cut, we have a little history dump and our Gladiators.
Gladiators initially started out as poorer people and slaves who were inscribed to fight and train in the gladiator schools, Ludus Magnus. Over time as people began to see the fame and honor that could be won in the arena, though it was more rare, people did start to voluntarily join these gladiator schools.
Due to the popularity of gladiator fights, and how pricey it got to train and house them, not every single gladiator fight was to the death for its contestants. (For the purpose of Finn's story/challenge rules, his fights will be.)
There's debate whether the infamous "thumbs down" actually meant the opponent HAD to die or not. It could have just meant they were disgraced and couldn't compete anymore, but I can't find definitive answers one way or the other, and the opinions I found on this often contradicted each other. (I could probably text my sister with three degrees all about ancient to medieval Italian/Roman history, but how do I explain to her I need to know for my Sims game lmaooo) All that said, gladiators often didn't live past their mid-twenties given the hazards of the job.
Gladiators were also sex symbols (do yourself a favor and look up ancient Roman graffiti. Humans are the same now as they were then lmao). Idk how much that'll play into my game but Finn does have to find a partner and have kids so the legacy continues but we'll get there when we get there.
Rana
Rana is the gladiator who has been at the Ludus Magna the longest. Her traits: Creative, Self Assured, Loyal.
She came from a wealthy merchant family, but the family business didn't interest her much. She left home when she was young to find herself and ended up finding the arena. She picked up sword fighting quickly and proved her aptitude for not only fighting, but teaching others to fight as well. These days she only competes occasionally, as she has proven herself invaluable in creating more gladiators.
She's hitting a point where the losses of her pupils, and more importantly friends, are starting to weigh on her. She likely isn't going to just be allowed to retire, though, so she has to figure something else out.
Apollo
Apollo named himself after a Greek God because he thinks he's hilarious. (This is debatable if you ask anyone who has spoken with him for more than five minutes.) He ended up at the Ludus Magnus due to his sense of humor; turns out a Senator doesn't like it when you make jokes about their philosophical ideas, even if they are stupid.
He doesn't enjoy the gladiator lifestyle much if he's being honest, and is counting down the days until his "voluntary" contract with the school is over so he can use what money he's won and travel the world like he's always wanted to. His self absorption is part him being young, and part it being a front for the fear he has of not living out his dreams and he wears it like a protective front. His friends know better, though.
(He also thinks Spartacus is cute, but he's certain Spartacus is going to stay a gladiator till he dies and that doesn't work with what he wants in the long run.)
His traits are: Loves the Outdoors, Self Absorbed, and Outgoing.
Spartacus
Disclaimer: I did not make Spartacus lmao. I was hitting create-a-sim burnout so I hit up the gallery to find someone else's Roman themed sim. Although I did make some minor changes to his wardrobe, added scars and swapped out a couple of his traits, which are: Athletic, Proper, Loner. I ended up keeping his name because while it's on the nose for a gladiator, it fits.
Spartacus is a former member of the Roman Legionnaires. He was released from his service due to an injury he sustained abroad. Once he had healed, he found civilian life to be difficult to adjust to, so he signed a contract with the Ludus Magnus. He's here for a good time, not a long time.
But lately, he's been spending more time with Apollo, and he's starting to change his mind. But surely someone as handsome as Apollo wouldn't be interested in someone who'd rather spend his time meditating than socializing at a party...
Finn
Finn's traits are: Athletic, Loyal, Ambitious
Finn knew the risks he was taking when he killed Antonius, but he doesn't regret it. He's now plotting his escape, and if his new found friends can survive, he'll bring them with him if they like. He really just wants to get back to Britain to what's left of his family and help them take back what is rightfully theirs and drive the Romans out.
By challenge rules, he has 10 fights to get through first. I also have to receive a silver medal or higher on at least 50 events, and I'll probably use his fights to accomplish at least 10 of those. (I've done six so far).
Will probably go over Laelius' household next along with the parts of the challenge they'll be completing, followed by his daughter's. Who I don't think I've posted so far.
Other households:
The Emperor's Family
The Frugi Household

-->And with that out of the way, I decided “maybe traveling will help this annoying lag” and decided to have the trio spend the rest of their day at their San MyShuno grocery store! As I’m still determined to empty the damn thing after spending so long filling it. They arrived at around 1 PM to find it still raining (and still laggy, bleh) – Alice opened the place up while Smiler cleaned a particularly-nasty toilet in the bathroom and Victor headed down to the basement to do some potion-related experimenting on his work cauldron. Their first customer proved to be none other than B-Lister celebrity Holly Alto from De Sol Valley – though, because she was a celebrity, Alice couldn’t actually greet her. That honor went to the second customer through the door, Rita Coombes. XD The price of fame. Anyway, Alice chatted with her a while as more customers poured through the doors – Smiler, once done with the toilet, decided to concentrate on a visitor named Jules, while I eventually forced Victor to abandon his cauldron in favor of saying hi to Morgyn Ember (because spellcasters gotta stick together, even in retail). Alice eventually got Rita to buy a cherry for a few bucks –
And then, one Last Exception later, she was outside showering in the rain again. *heavy sigh* Oh, Alice… I am DEFINITELY avoiding making any future Alice Sims Erratic, this just isn’t her. Though I was at least able to use the opportunity to get her to change her outfit to one of her short-sleeved ones, then put on her new Delicate bracelet so she could take advantage of its mood-chilling properties. Made the damn thing, might as well use it!
-->Anyway – once Alice was done shocking the customers, I had her head back inside and into the break room, where Victor used Delicioso to conjure up a couple of salads for them to eat for lunch. Alice took the opportunity to read him some romantic poetry and get kisses in return. <3 Smiler, meanwhile, continued working the sales floor, closing the deal with Jules and greeting newcomer Kalama with a hug (I – have completely forgotten when Smiler met this Sim. ^^; On the other hand, Smiler is the Most Likable Sim in this save, so they make friends just by saying hello to people, meaning me forgetting when they made a friend isn’t exactly surprising). We had a few more “out of the fridges/fruit and veg stands” sales while Victor and Alice finished up – Morgyn ended up buying a raspberry while two other customers, Eleanor and Clyde, bought a quill fruit and an orange egg respectively – then Jules and newcomer Mao (the pale lady with the braided blond hair and red sunglasses) indicated they wanted to make PROPER purchases. I had Alice and Victor ring them up respectively – Jules got a lovely Energizing Scent –
And Mao a Potion of the Nimble Mind! :D The first person to actually buy one of Victor’s potions! Sure, okay, it only sold for 12 simoleons, but it was free to make, and this family has plenty of money, so I don’t think anyone is complaining here. :P Just glad to see Sims WILL buy them if given the opportunity!
