Definitely have strong respect towards women and deep understanding of their own emotional realm, but can also easily be the type to not give a dam what anyone feels besides them coz they get that caught up, without Neptune influence

General astro observation | Placements + Synastry Edition

This is general/ self made observations. It does not have to resonate with anyone.

☆ Having your venus/sun/moon in the 12th house can make you feel like an outsider to other people. You feel like you don't mesh well with people.

☆ Another manifestation to the 12th house stallium or placements, is it make you LITERALLY feel like the other woman/friend. You may notice that you are the other friend that other people go to when their favourite person is absent. You also might feel like the side chick too.

☆ Another manifestation to the 12th house venus is you feel like you love someone from afar and you do not truly dare to go and tell them how you feel. It feels like unrequited love from your side and it hurts so bad.

☆ In synastry chart, having your mars square your partners mars is not that good. You two may compete with each other or your ego may clash with them (take what resonates/ it depends on the other aspects and the sign the square happen to be in).

☆ The WORST (there’s nothing good or bad every relationship had its advantages and disadvantages) aspect is venus square venus and moon square moon and venus square moon. You two could have different love languages, different emotional needs or simply you two does not know how to prioritize each other in stressful situations.

☆ Usually (in my pov) the opposition is way more easier than square. Why? Because in the opposition case both partners realize that they have differences and they respect that. But in the square case it feels like navigating a ship through storm and thinking that your partner know how to lead the ship were they think that you know too but both of you are clueless.

☆ I've seen this many times in the married couples charts. Your future spouse will have the placements of your midpoint. How so? Calculate your chart using astro-seek and look at the midpoint zodiac sign. Like for example my mother have her midpoint in virgo and my father is virgo moon.

☆ Moon square saturn in synastry is not a nice aspect to have with anyone. It make the moon feels abused emotionally where the saturn think what they do is normal. In other words the saturn person can be dry with the moon person (check other aspects to know the influence this will have on you two).

☆ I know I'm going to get hate for this but.... Composite charts are NOT THAT IMPORTANT! who cares if it worked or not(the chart). The best thing is to analyze your synastry with them to see the points of power/ weaknesses that both partners hold for each other.

☆ Another thing I hate seeing in the astrology community is the amount of bias to specific placements and the amount of false information that is being shared between people.

☆ There's nothing and I mean NOTHING that is called UNDERDEVELOPED placements. We are humans we learn, we evolve. So, if you see someone defending other placements and justifying their bad behavior blaming it on UNDERDEVELOPMENT block them they are not worthy of the fight honestly. You are human; you should be damn aware of yourself and your own actions.

☆ Libra ascendant are not that extroverted honestly. I've seen many of them are introverts especially if they have earth or water sun. But they are easy to talk to though. You can enjoy a nice chat with them.

☆ Earth placements are very helpful and generous honestly. You won't find anyone who can support you like them, especially virgo or taurus. Capricorn can be selfish unless they have fire placements (not sagittarius).

☆ Sun in cancer with gemini placements are emotionally manipulative. Yes, they are sweet and caring but they know how to baffle you when they want.

☆ Mercury square pluto are manipulative too. But their manipulation tactics tend to be more subtle and smooth. You won't realize they are manipulating you (Pls check other aspects too).

☆ Aries mercury are one of the BEST and smartest people I've ever met. They have that sharp mind and they memories so fast too.

☆ One of the best people you can have a relationship with are people who have a stallium in your 12th house. Especially with positive aspects to inner planets. They just get you. And no one do like them.

☆ Earth Mercuries are quite stubborn and judgemental. Especially virgo Mercury. Taurus is stubborn and tend to stick to their own opinion rather than actually understanding why. Capricorn Mercury are very material and tend to withdraw when things get sensitive or emotional (pls check other aspects for influence).

☆ Your Mercury DOES NOT give any indication of your IQ level. If our Mercury influenced our IQ level then Isaac Newton would be dumb (his Mercury is in sagittarius).

☆ Mercury that is ruled by jupiter (pisces and sagittarius) tend to accumulate knowledge and have lots of information, because this Mercury is ruled by the planet of expansion.

☆ A lot of Mars influence in synastry DOES NOT spice things up. It's true that it rules sexual instinct and attraction but too many aspects make both partners irritable and aggressive towards each other. Especially the planet person. Mars is the one that provoke the planet person.

⚫ Opposite to the stereotype of Leo being a narcissist, its the Aquarians who are more narcissist than ANY other zodiac. Esp its the Dhanishta naks out of the Aqua naks who are so.

⚫ I have seen 3 Aquarian moons (of Dhanishta nak) who had a poverty stricken first half of life (childhood, teenage years) but then they become well off like rlly very well off in their second half (esp after marriage). They marry rich 🤑 too. What i am saying here is the dramatic transformation of their financial life.

⚫ Pisces men are physically abusive. That's it. Esp the March Pisces. They literally are a bully. (Dont be fooled by the beautiful doe eyes lol)

⚫ "WOW What voluminous and luscious hair he's got!" -my ♌ rising and moon mom commenting on a side character with insignificant role in a movie 🤣. I wasn't noticing that at all...but she seemed to be stuck on that feature 😂.

⚫ Martian influence on a chart can actually have a liking to dangerous weapons and ammunitions. (Like idk I weirdly love them 😂😂)

⚫ Females with Ketu ruled naks are the first group of people whom male perceive as "threat". (Second is mars btw). ⚫ I have seen a Chart which was totally "Mars" chart and I'll tell you, that person has Aries asc, Moon, Mars and (Mercury ig is in Scorpio?idr) along with Scorpio sun. And that person is like personified version of the planet itself. So cunning and so shrewd, potentially be a mastermind. Statergic. Secretive af. (Might be their middle name to exaggerate). Close to their mom. Loves friends (friends over anything). Also they have a "reddish" tint to their skin (no health probs, but yeah that planet does that). Knows how to tackle any embarrassing moment in public and deal with it. (I am jealous of him coz i wanted to be like him in every way 😂)

Scorpio Risings

Accuracy influenced by the entire chart.

Appearance

A key theme in scorpio risings is wishing to go unseen (unless they have prominent 10th H placements). They hate being perceived. Their entire lives the worst is assumed of them. Often, these negative assumptions come based on nothing but their appearance.

The scorpio risings may not be able to tell what it is about them that is making people respond to them in a negative way. Other people, may not be able to pin it exactly either. It is usually subconscious.

Physically, all the scorpio risings I know appear very different. I do have a few shared physical traits & observations:

🪻Sharper features. Prominent chins - broad or pointy.

🪻 People tend to associate gothic and darker aesthetic with scorpio. However, this brings attention, generally scorpios have a love-hate relationship with attention. It is more often the gothic, darker style is embraced by sag rising w sag Pluto.

🪻 The scorpio risings, I know, keep a basic and comfortable style. They appear well kept. They stick out for their physical features not their clothing.

🪻 When they do decide to dress up, it would fall under “silent luxury”. Expensive or eye-catching accessory (necklace, watch, earrings) but a black or a darker bold colour outfit.

🪻 Makeup and hair is almost always natural. The women don’t tend to like makeup that much either. However, all this can change if they have placements that do love to stand out.

🪻 Often, muscular or on the thin side.

🪻 They may be attractive in a way that creates jealously. This leads to poor treatment from those who don’t know you.

🪻 Or they may be conventionally unattractive, thus society treats them poorly.

Positive placements such as Jupiter in first house could change the above drastically.

Ex: River Phoenix’s natal asc is scorpio with jupiter & neptune in first house. He was attractive in a dreamy and soft way. Neptune helped balance out the sharpness of a scorpio asc. & Jupiter generally brings luck in whichever house it is placed.

Scorpio is a fixed sign that is about transformation. These individuals tend to impulsively make changes (they are traditionally ruled by mars). Then, quickly become emotional about the change made (they are a water sign). If they have a well placed mars, they may make more calculated changes than impulsive.

Personality:

Disregarding other placements, scorpio rising is more predator than prey. They silently observe, take notes, analyze, and never forget.

Now, when we take into consideration other placements, this can change almost entirely.

For ex. pair a scorpio asc with a pisces moon. They will become less observant. In times of boredom or when reality is too painful, they will enter the dream world in their mind for comfort.

Yet, even the least observant scorpio ascendant is observant. They repress a lot of emotions especially anger. Instead of expressing and communicating their feelings, they will observe the situation or person. They will not forget what was done. And they aren’t likely to let you know until they’ve decided they’re done with you.

Their repressed anger can lead to an angry outburst. The scorpio asc can be very cruel when hurt. They may say and do almost anything to hurt the other person. This could lead to guilt afterwards. However, you aren’t likely to hear an apology from a scorpio asc. From their perspective, they were only hurting you back even though you may not know what you did. This can lead to some toxic relationships throughout the scorpio asc person’s life. A well placed mercury and/or mars could change the above.

The angry outburst will lead the scorpio asc to be blamed and villainized. This is the placement you hear people say, “I had a bad feeling from the start”. People love to paint themselves as the victims of a scorpio asc. And when they were never clued in on their wrongdoings, they may genuinely believe it.

Despite, the conflict they are bound to endure through their lives, they dislike conflict. But conflict will find them.

For ex: My scorpio rising friend was removed from a gc by her childhood friends. She was surprised and discovered it was because her relative dumped one of their aunts. She had no involvement but somehow caught blame.

This is the worst part of being a scorpio ascendant. People jump to negative conclusions. Scorpio asc rarely get the benefit of doubt. This may manifest as people feeling you are intimidating, insincere, jealous/angry, etc.

At an older age, they often gain something that gives other’s something to be jealous of. This depends on the entire chart. Possible examples: Career, they often reach high positions and/or have careers that indicate wealth (Vet, Dr., Lawyer, etc).

They can marry someone that makes other’s jealous as well. Taurus is their 7th, their partners are generally stable, beautiful, generous, indulgent and spoil them. This will be drastically influenced by the venus placement.

They aren’t doomed to never be understood. People with compatible placements will gravitate towards them. When someone understands them, they will be as close as can be. They are very protective and loving. They hate to let people go even when they must for their peace.

💙Venus Sextile Jupiter-are very lucky in love. They can fall in love with people's minds or intelligent vibe or energy. I think they have a fate in things they do and the love. They have a certain type of person they like and stick to it. They can also be impulsive and tend to be bold and dramatic. They could also be jealous type and when they want something they will definitely stick to it. Also have strong actions when they do something & will be like 100% sure on that and they won't back down from it. Small Astro observations

-Sun conjunct ascendant in synastry is an odd moment for me. Mostly cause as a Leo rising I have met some Leo suns and I have no bad blood for them. It just feels weird because most times the Sun person will mimic the ascendant person in some way. From what I’ve noticed at least. Maybe my Uranus being in my seventh house has a mild affect because Aquarius is all about uniqueness or something along those lines. So naturally I can enjoy the idea of someone doing/acting similar to me but not enough to make a bond with a person. Idk it feels odd for me at least. Other people enjoy it though but maybe it’s just my ego talking idk.

-Pisces suns from what I have seen have either sleepy eyes or something distinct about their teeth. Some people have said that Pisces have fish teeth but that isn't all they can have. Idk I've noticed that most Pisces I have met can have fish like teeth but overall their teeth just has something distinct about them. For instance, my dad has almost no teeth but still chooses to eat steak and all that even though it doesn't seem that easy for him to do. I also think it's the Taurus moon and mars that adds to his stubbornness. You could read this observation for either tropical or sidereal since I've seen the same with some Aries suns (tropical). I myself am an Aries sun but Pisces sun in sidereal and I have a lazy eye and some interesting teeth imo. Mostly cause I have two sharp teeth kinda where you would see vampire fangs but I have a similar moment with two bottom teeth like directly below my other two teeth. There is just a odd sharpness to them that my other teeth don't have. Plus I have always had problems with my teeth to the point that apparently at the age of 12 I had to get most of my back teeth removed (they were baby teeth so they grew back).

-3rd house synastry creates more of a sibling like bond with a person or that person could remind you of one of your siblings (depends on you I guess idk how many siblings people have so yeah). Whereas 4th house synastry has more of a likelihood to remind you of a general family member as opposed to one of your siblings or just a sibling in general. I've noticed that 4th house synastry causes an emotional comfort where you can talk about your trauma or just childhood in general with someone one, but 3rd house synastry is more like a weird assumption that you don't really have to talk about that because somehow it is just accepted that you know it. Again kinda like a sibling moment cause most times you don't have to have deep talks about your childhood with your siblings (at least for me most times). Funnily enough I have fourth house synastry with both my sister and one of my brothers (I have my moon in my sister's fourth house whereas my brother has his moon in my fourth house), so we do have those talks about our trauma and such. Honestly I have always felt more close (emotionally) with them than my own parents. It's an interesting bond for sure for me. I feel very lucky that I have that bond with my siblings.

-6th house synastry is a moment to live through because it can manifest differently based on the planet. I think moon in sixth house causes the most mixed reactions to each other, because the sixth house is all about routine and service. So the moon being there causes a emotional bond for each other through service towards each other. Although it does depend on other aspects of the synastry most times it's a mutual I help you you help me kinda vibe to it. I think it can work out but both parties would have to have some level of emotional maturity or even just a lack of Pluto influence. It's not like it can't work out with Pluto influence but it just would take a lot more work since Pluto is a little cunt who likes messing around with shit so the emotions get fucked around with the most. I can't blame Pluto too much for it since it is a planet all about transformation and obsession and people can control their own actions. Take what you can from what I said.

my 2023 Solar Return chart or "Great Expectations"

my birthday is coming up next month, and that's why I wanted to check my Solar Return chart for this year to see if it had worked properly for me (spoiler: it didn't work out the way I had hoped). I attach the chart below. 1. first of all, my 1st house Solar Jupiter in the Natal 9th house. honestly, I expected this year to be a really prosperous and eventful one. there we no bad aspects either (actually, there were no aspects with other planets at all). probably, that's why the whole year appeared to be "empty" and tasteless as I see it now (maybe the 12th house Saturn is also responsible). especially, in terms of the issues related to the 9th house. I could make a far-fetched argument and say that passing my Korean exam could be counted as an achievement, but... is that really enough for Jupiter's influence? I expected more. Jupiter is also close to my Natal Moon... well, the number of times I've been depressed because I was unable to travel abroad has increased dramatically. 2. another disappointment. just listen: connection between the 1st and the 7th Natal and Solar charts, Vertex in the conjunction with the DSC, Mars and Moon in the 7th house, Solar Pluto in the Natal 5th house, Jupiter positively aspecting the 7th house, Natal Venus in the 7th Solar house... here I also expected something special. I saw a lot of articles where such placements were describing a year of significant change in your romantic relationships, and even meeting your future husband. again - N-O-T-H-I-N-G. probably, my 12th house Solar Neptune being in my 7th Natal house have led me to believe this, but it was not meant to be. I was wrong. oh, wait a sec - this year I had VERY painful and ABSOLUTELY irrational crush (I'm too old for this shit and I can't really understand why and how it happened) on the celebrity with crazy Scorpio stellium and, guess, having Capricorn as Rising (the 7th house Solar Scorpio Moon and Capricorn Pluto falling into my 5th Natal house). well, is HE going to be my husband or what? :))) 3. Pisces Rising. well, it met expectations. the whole year I've been extra-sensitive. I guess the reason is that my Asc and Dsc swapped places and the issues of Dsc have become dominant this year. I've never cried that much on some strange stuff like absence of relationship. I really felt very lonely this year. like "I'm not that bad but haven't been on a date for 3 years already. what's wrong with me? do I have real friends? am I a friend to someone?" (guess, I also should blame my 11th house Solar Pluto). however, I should also mention that my appearance this year really matched Pisces ASC, I've learned to express my creative side more often. I think of it as a sublimation...

4. active 6th house. Venus, Sun, Mercury, Juno, Lilith here... well, okay, work is all I can remember from this year. work, work, work - honestly, I'm so tired of my life being so boring. however, I started this blog and I'm still trying to write something here. I haven't given up on it yet, and it's become a routine for me - the ruler of the 3rd house is in the 6th house. I guess, Solar Mercury in the 12th Natal house determined astrology as the main topic of my writings. but maybe Part of Fortune in the 12th Solar house helped...

5. the 9th house in Sagittarius + Gemini IC with it's ruler Mercury in the 6th house. I moved from my hometown and began working at a new place. Solar MC in Sagittarius also explains the fact that I'm working for the company connected with foreign affairs. along with the 2nd Solar house being in the 9th Natal.

6. Chiron in the 1st house in Aries. as the 1st house is usually associated with our body, I can say for sure that during this year, I have changed my style several times (I can add Leo Venus here). as Chiron is connected with traumas and the healing of these traumas - this year I also made 4 piercing (thanks to Taurus transit, but that's another story...). it has an opposition with my natal Venus in Libra - well, I agree that piercing and my planned tattoo are not really matching this Venus, haha. moreover, I had some really dangerous, purely Aries-styled situations that could have led to serious physical damage for me, but in the end, I'm okay.

7. Solar IC is in my Natal 10th house, and I currently live separately from my parents. however, this placement often indicates that family plays a significant role in matters related to housing.  my aunt (who is also my neighbor now) found a place for me. additionally, my younger sister is now living with me.

overall: I was expecting far more from this year based on the chart. some things have indeed happened, but others haven't gone as I had hoped. Moon conjunct mars in a man’s chart - Analysis

It is usually an auspicious aspect for wealth they are born into wealth or accumulate wealth easily throughout their life. These are the ones we talk about when we say « eat the rich » cause they are the worse rich men someone can ever encounter.

They are dangerous people with a twisted mind. They use women’s energy and advice to accumulate wealth and they may even abuse them on the way emotionally, mentally or physically.

They will use the moon energy they have naturally to lure women in their life and use afterwards the dominant and commanding mars energy to make them stay and trap them. They leave once they took what they needed from the woman and she is drained of her feminine energy.

Roustabout Review

Marred by pre-production issues, Roustabout took about 3 years to put out. Announced in 1961, Elvis didn't start filming until March 1964 at 29 years old (well after he stopped playing bad boy characters). This film also had Colonel's influence as he wanted the film to be portray carnival life as a respectable profession.

Made after VLV and Kissin Cousins, this is the last film from Elvis' 2nd Hollywood phase (lighthearted musical comedy travelogues). Does Roustabout have enough of a gritty yet colorful edge to make it enjoyably different, or was it trying too hard to capture a movement and emotion that was no longer relevant? Let's find out.

The titular song "Roustabout" gets us off to a great start. The colored lights are tolerable for those who are photosensitive. The song itself is very enjoyable but I'm not sure if it fits the movie's characterization of Charlie. He's characterized as a ruffian with a chip on his shoulder. I personally recommend looking up "I'm A Roustabout", an alternate opening title song that I think better suited Charlie's character.

So we get introduced to some college kids that only show up for this one scene and I don't like their attitudes. They get all uppity with a waitress who insists on giving them non-alcoholic drinks despite one of them claiming they're all 18 (unless this takes place in Louisiana, states even back in 1964 had the purchase age at 21 to buy alcohol so that argument is moot). The establishment has the right to enforce underage drinking laws, so regardless of their actual age, the waitress has to at least check.

This is the first example of the movie telling us to think one way about Charlie despite showing evidence suggesting otherwise. The college students start heckling him and then get mad when he heckles back. "Poison Ivy League" is an entertaining song that calls out the rich college students and has a unique sound for an Elvis song.

When the song is over, we're made to believe that Charlie is some type of bad boy who picks fights because he's got a chip on his shoulder for being an orphan. That isn't the case at all because Charlie didn't start the fight. Him being an orphan has absolutely nothing to do with this interaction. The college boys started it by making remarks and if you look closely, the one in the blue actually started to swing first. Despite this, Charlie is the only one who gets arrested then gets slapped by the waitress who bailed him out. She's upset that he wouldn't take her with him, when in reality he's not obligated to do anything more than pay her back.

"Wheels On My Heels" is a good song that properly fills in what otherwise would've been dead air. You want to believe that Charlie is content with being on his own as he travels to his next job. However, given the circumstances that lead to this, you still don't get the idea that he's a bad boy. He's acting like a relatively reasonable person that doesn't like getting blamed for things he didn't do.

Which is what makes Joe running off the road so frustrating. Charlie flirts with his daughter, Cathy, and he just completely loses his mind. He verbally stated his intents on killing Charlie, yet still makes it like it was Charlie's fault. What's worse is that, Charlie is forced to work with Maggie and the family until his motorcycle is fixed. Instead of offering to buy him a new bike all together, this family makes like Charlie should be honored to work there as opposed to being held against his will.

We get a walk through of the carnival and I immediately get the idea that Colonel contributed to the script. Cathy uses all this carny talk and then compares it to doctors using Latin because it separates them from the common man. I'm all for wanting to break stereotypes, but Cathy saying this makes her come off as nothing but high in mighty. At least with Cody and the other carnival workers, they have a realistic perspective of trying to take pride in their work despite their low status. It's just a shame none of them show up again to do literally anything. Charlie so far is quite personable and even tries to be nice to Cathy by going on a Ferris Wheel ride singing "It's a Wonderful World." It's a beautiful song with unique tracking shots of the Ferris Wheel moving.

Joe is still unreasonably awful when he's not even the boss. He would literally rather pick on Charlie than accept his half dollar coin for using a ride. We later find out that Maggie is also an irresponsible carnival owner for keeping him employed there. Joe as we learn, was drunk on the job and rigged a ride that ended up killing someone. As a result of not having insurance, Maggie now owes the bank compensation. Instead of doing literally anything, she still insists on keeping Joe employed and only blames herself for letting the insurance lapse. In reality, she'd likely be forced to shut down her business and Joe would definitely be out of a job. There's no way she'd be in business if she kept Joe working there as she'd be complacent in his negligence.

It's the first night of the carnival and while there is business, Cathy simply isn't doing enough to get money at her booth. So what does the bad boy Charlie do? He sings "It's Carnival Time" to attract business on a toy ukelele. Wow that's such a bad boy move /s. Charlie was so bad that he actually manages to earn the carnival a lot of money for that game.

The song itself is still good but I don't think it was lip-synched well. In the shots like this one, Elvis sometimes isn't even moving his lips while he's singing. But ultimately I still buy the idea of using him to attract customers since his songs are entertaining. If only the movie also properly utilized the Wall of Death since we know Charlie is a motorcycle rider.

We get a double header of "Carny Town" and "Hard Knocks" which both do a good job of entertaining the crowd. In the meantime, we get an introduction to the so called "villain" of the movie. Harry Carver is meant to be this no good carnival owner that buys out dying businesses. However, given what we know so far about Maggie and co. I don't hate this man at all. Maggie has shown that she's unwilling to get rid of Joe despite him actively being cruel to other workers, while Harry Carver actually comes off as a reasonable man who just wants to provide the highest quality entertainment possible.

When Charlie's show ends up being a success, Joe still can't even have the guts and admit that he was wrong. He still thinks Charlie is the bad guy here. So of course when Charlie is still salty about the damages Joe caused, Cathy is mad at him for being ungrateful when Maggie gave him a new guitar. Do you see how messed up that is for Cathy to not only defend her father's awful actions, but then have the gall to get mad at Charlie like he's the heel? I'm sorry but the movie is actively trying to gaslight its audience into think Charlie's this bad boy when in reality Charlie's the victim. I just can't support this downright unreasonable and unlikeable family.

At Charlie's next show we get "One Track Heart" and it's one of the best songs in the movie for how entertaining it is. That being said, I have no idea why Charlie changes his mind out of nowhere when he signs Maggie's contract. Nothing we've seen indicates any major change in his status there. This is where not giving his relationship with the other male carnies any development, really hurts the movie. It just feels like the script is forcing Charlie into this instead of naturally establishing reasons to make him change his mind. That's bad storytelling where you're telling us this is what needs to happen as opposed to showing us how Charlie grows.

Cathy also comes off as being super unlikeable by getting mad at Charlie for so much as being with Estelle, the fortune teller. They are not dating and she didn't even tell Charlie how she felt. Charlie is not at all obligated to stay loyal to her. She just comes off as high and mighty like Charlie should never dare have affections for another woman and it's very annoying. I just don't get any chemistry from these two at all and it's another aspect of the story that just feels forced.

After signing the contract with Maggie, Cathy is seen running the dunk tank with Joe and my god do we get the most obnoxious couple I've ever seen in my life. This couple actually makes me feel bad for Joe when they accuse him of stealing their wallet when they have been nothing but a nuisance and started a fight with Charlie. Then again, this family gets mad at Charlie having dared feel concern over Cathy's wellbeing. I was so mad at Cathy when she slapped Charlie because I have no idea why I'm supposed to get at someone who just wants to help. How I'm supposed to like anyone in this family over Harry Carver when they've all treated Charlie as nothing but dirt?

Estelle the fortune teller and Cathy are just awful love interests. They wanna make like they're interested in Charlie, but just when Charlie shows interest back, they get all disgusted. That's not a bad boy. A bad boy wouldn't listen to Cathy when she says she's not a one night stand type of girl. Like Estelle gets mad at Charlie even though she was the one who wanted him to have sex with her. It comes off as these women being so flakey and unlikeable as opposed to Charlie actually being wrong for pushing.

So he finds the wallet and like a good friend decides that Joe needs time to get sober. The next morning, he gets his bike back and is about to leave when he sees the Wall of Death. In a scene that absolutely serves no purpose outside of wasting time before the big reveal, Charlie tries his hand at it. Once he had his fun, Charlie tells Maggie and the other carnies that he found the man's wallet last night. As rational, reasonable people, every single person gets mad at Charlie for betraying Joe. They think Charlie was a heel for having dared think it was a good idea to keep a drunk man in jail longer than he should've been.

I just can't stand any of these people. Charlie actively tries to keep an absolutely terrible person in jail just long enough to sober up and HE'S THE BAD GUY! I think everyone in this carnival is insane. The colonel wanting to make this a specially coded business with rules ended up making this a straight up cult. If you don't drink the kool aid and support your fellow carny no matter how much of a horrible person they are, you're the bad person. I want this carnival to fail and go out of business because of how awful they are. That's a complete failure on the writers part to just completely fumble the ball when making Charlie this "bad boy" who has to change his ways. I want Charlie to get as far away as possible from these people.

Charlie of course signs with Harry Carver and I refuse to believe he's supposed to be the bad guy like the movie wants to make him. He's an actually reasonable man who runs a far superior business. This is a whole theater with numerous performers providing a quality show. However, "Little Egypt" is by far the weakest song in the movie. I hate the sound effect used as it hurts my ears and is completely unnecessary. It ruined what would've otherwise been an absolute banger and a good reason to believe that Charlie is a good performer.

We see Maggie's carnival and of course it's failing. It's almost like they didn't realizing casting Charlie out would have consequences. Cathy and Estelle talk and despite literally watching her kiss Charlie multiple times, Estelle says "she didn't even get to first base". I have never seen a movie completely mess up on its own continuity this badly. It gives you this feeling of anxiety that you're being gaslight as the movie tells you one thing despite being shown something completely different. We never once see Charlie use anyone like Estelle says he did and it's completely ridiculous.

I love "Big Love, Big Heartache". It's the quintessential Elvis ballad but if Charlie had an actual character arc this is the perfect way to show that he actually does love Cathy. It's such a shame that he doesn't have any character arc at all. Cathy just shows up because she wants to manipulate Charlie into coming back and he does. I think Charlie is absolutely insane for leaving a legitimately superior job for an actually toxic work environment. Based on what we're shown, no one at Maggie's carnival is likable enough to make Charlie want to be there.

I honestly feel bad for Harry Carver because he's a reasonable man who actually cares about his business. He even cares about Charlie being in love with Cathy and tries to give him advice. Charlie just gives him the shaft because we're near the end and this has to have a "happy" ending where Maggie's carnival is saved.

This is the most forced ending I've ever seen in an Elvis movie. Absolutely nothing is earned here. Absolutely nothing in this movie was properly developed as we're introduced to things like Charlie being an orphan and the wall of death only to have neither of those things matter. It's not like Loving You where Deke being an orphan actually matters as he learns how to heal and accept that he's good enough to have friends. With the Morgans you can't help but think this is the most unlikeable family you've ever seen. It's so badly written that the only way you can make sense of it, is to come up with the conspiracy theory that Joe is abusive towards both of them. It would other wise make zero sense for Maggie or Cathy to defend Joe.

Charlie can't accept the Morgans as his family because despite "There's A Brand New Day On The Horizon" telling us things are going to get better, I just don't think it will. Joe didn't have his epiphany and realizes Charlie is a good guy. Joe only accepts Charlie coming back because it's the end of the movie and the script tells you that he does. It's all so forced and I have no reason to believe Joe will get better. A complete mess of a story that is absolutely frustrating to watch.

I said in my Clambake review that it was the hardest film to develop a solid opinion on whether I liked it or not. Roustabout to me is like a Clambake but in reverse. Clambake had bad production and some bad songs but had the best character writing I've seen in a mid 60s Elvis movie so far. Roustabout meanwhile had good production and an amazing soundtrack (outside of the sound effect used in Little Egypt.) but the worst character writing I've ever seen in an Elvis movie.

Since the writing is the worst part of the movie that singlehandedly ruined my ability to enjoy it, I have to give it 5/10. This movie's production and soundtrack just wasn't enough overcome the failures of basic story telling. I personally didn't vibe with it so I can't say I'd recommend it but if you're someone who only watches Elvis films for the songs or doesn't care as much about the writing, then I think you would have a great time.

The Destructive Influence Of Donald Trump

As I sit here, awaiting Cyclone Alfred to hit, my mind is more taken up with the destructive influence of Donald Trump upon the world. I am, like many around the globe, deeply disgusted by Trump and his decision to betray Ukraine in its fight to stave off Russian aggression. It is hard to fathom the thinking behind this and the global effects the US policy reversal will have. I suspect Trump’s motivation on this is narcissistically personal to achieve a cessation to the conflict and to damage Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s reputation and position. Trump Making The World A Much More Dangerous Place

I agree with Prof. Timothy Snyder in his appraisal of Trump’s actions as making the world a much more dangerous place. Trump is making the US weaker on the world stage and undermining a coalition of the willing who have been holding the line against Russian aggression. Now, transactional Trump reduces things to deals between dictators and warlords going forward into the future. Removing America from the picture will not save the US money, as America has amassed wealth and power on the back of its hegemonic military participation globally. Trump is telling aggressive nations that invasion of neighbouring countries is acceptable behaviour in the new world order. Nuclear weapons become more important in a violent world where the US ignores a rules based order in favour of exploiting weakness for profit.

How can anyone respect a President who lies as a matter of course like breathing? How can anyone believe a single thing he says? The whole thing is a bad pantomime, which actually costs lives and threatens the security of the world. Trump makes folk sick and weakens the fabric of our lives. Ordinary people losing their jobs enmasse in the tens of thousands for no sane reason but a political stunt of retribution. Government services being slashed in the billions and trillions to make way for tax cuts for the super wealthy. The blame game demonising government civil servants to satisfy the stupidity of Americans looking to assuage grievances. The stupidity of folk who buy the BS peddled by Fox News and extreme right wing nutjobs. Hey buddy, the real villains who are stealing your lunch are the guys you f****** voted for! Wake up and get your heads out of your asses. The culture wars are a con for their grift on the American people.

The adulterous partner who accuses the other of cheating is an example of this behaviour. The Big Lie about the election being stolen in 2020 was a ruse after the GOP’s own frustrated attempts to commit electoral fraud. In reality, the US election system was too robust for cheating to have any real effect on the result. Instead, the Trump team sought to cast aspersions upon election results which they did in 2016, 2020 and again in 2024. Now, false accusations about massive social security fraud are being made by Trump, again without any real evidence to back up the claims. In the US, it seems you can get away with saying anything in the political sphere without legal consequences for lying. I wonder what parents think of the example set by Trump to their kids in regard to telling the truth. Or is this just a quaint consideration in the current climate over there? The destructive influence of Donald Trump is a blight upon the world. You cannot have a functioning democratic nation if the leader is a compulsive liar. This morning, Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), one of the highest-ranking Jewish officials in the U.S. government, said Israelis need to call new elections to replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who, Schumer said, “has lost his way by allowing his political survival to take precedence over the best interests of Israel.” Schumer, who is a strong ally of Israel and who also blamed Hamas for the crisis in the Middle East, warned that the deadly toll on civilians in Gaza under the policies of Netanyahu’s government is “pushing support for Israel worldwide to historic lows. Israel cannot survive if it becomes a pariah.”

Netanyahu needs to hold his far-right coalition together to escape the corruption trial in which he is currently at risk, and that coalition wants continued attacks on Hamas. Netanyahu has announced that Israel’s forces are planning to invade the city of Rafah, where about 1.4 million Palestinians are sheltering, despite President Joe Biden’s warning that such an invasion must have a plan to protect civilians “that was actually planned, prepared and implementable.” 

Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is so bad that the U.S. and other countries are conducting airdrops of essential relief—airdrops are a poor substitute for land-based aid—and Netanyahu’s government has rejected the call of neighboring Arab states, the U.S., and the European Union for a real path to a Palestinian state, instead trying to prevent such a state by pushing more settlements in the West Bank. On a hot mic at the State of the Union address last Tuesday, Biden told Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Senator Michael Bennett (D-CO): “I told him, Bibi…you and I are going to have a come to Jesus meeting,” slang for a moment that precipitates a major change.  

Netanyahu’s far-right government is deeply unpopular in Israel. In January, only 15% of Israelis wanted him to keep his job after the war on Hamas ends, and three days ago the U.S. intelligence community assessed in its annual report on the threats facing the United States that “[d]istrust of Netanyahu’s ability to rule has deepened and broadened across the public from its already high levels before the war, and we expect large protests demanding his resignation and new elections.” It concluded: “A different, more moderate government is a possibility.” Centrist political rival Benny Gantz has visited the U.S. and the U.K. recently. 

“As a democracy, Israel has the right to choose its own leaders, and we should let the chips fall where they may,” Schumer said. “But the important thing is that Israelis are given a choice.”

Netanyahu has forged strong ties in the U.S. with Republicans; in 2015 he spoke before Congress at the invitation of Republicans in an attempt to undermine then-president Barack Obama’s negotiations with Iran to stop that country’s development of nuclear weapons. Today, Republicans slammed Schumer’s speech. House speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said: “We need to be standing with Israel. We need to give our friends and allies our full support.”

In Hungary today, the U.S. ambassador launched a similar pushback against a far-right leader whose personal interests are driving his country’s policies. 

Today is the twenty-fifth anniversary of Hungary’s joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). U.S. Ambassador David Pressman used the occasion to warn Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán that the United States has lost patience with his embrace of Russian president Vladimir Putin, his undermining of support for Ukraine, and his open advocacy of Trump’s return to the White House. 

Pressman noted that the U.S. and Hungary have long historic ties, reaching all the way back to the American Revolution and the influence of revolutionary leader Lajos Kossuth—who is one of two foreign leaders whose busts are in the U.S. Capitol—on the defense of democracy in the years before the Civil War. “What unites these connections between our two nations is the shared longing of our peoples for liberty and democracy,” Pressman said. 

When Hungary joined NATO in 1999, Pressman noted, Viktor Orbán was prime minister, and he was proud of the country’s democratic future aligned with a transatlantic community of democracies. Now, he said, Hungary’s choices are increasingly isolating it from its friends and allies. 

“We cannot ignore it when the Speaker of Hungary’s National Assembly asserts that Putin’s war in Ukraine is actually ‘led by the United States,’” Pressman said. “We cannot ignore a sitting minister referring to the United States as a corpse whose nails continue to grow. We can neither understand nor accept the Prime Minister identifying the United States as a ‘top adversary’ of our Ally, Hungary. Or his assertion that the United States government is trying to overthrow the Hungarian government—literally, to ‘defeat’ him.” 

“While the Hungarian government’s wild rhetoric in state-controlled media may incite passion, or ignite an electoral base, the choice to issue, on a daily basis, dangerously unhinged anti-American messaging is a policy choice, and it risks changing Hungary’s relationship with America,” Pressman said.    

The ambassador called out Orbán’s “systematic takeover of independent media,” the use of government power to “provide favorable treatment for companies owned by party leaders or their families, in-laws, or old friends,” and law defending “a single party’s effort to monopolize public discourse.” “[T]his is not something we expect from allies,” Pressman said. The U.S. seeks to engage through dialogue and is willing to speak honestly, he said, but he warned that the U.S. is ready “to act in response to choices the government is making.”

“Hungary’s allies are warning Hungary of the dangers of its close and expanding relationship with Russia,” Pressman said. “If this is Hungary’s policy choice—and it has become increasingly clear that it is with the Foreign Minister’s sixth trip to Russia since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and with his next trip to Russia scheduled in two weeks, following his engagement with Russia’s Foreign Minister earlier this month, and the Prime Minister’s meeting with Vladimir Putin in China—we will have to decide how best to protect our security interests, which, as Allies, should be our collective security interests.”

Pressman called out Orbán for his open support for Trump—Orbán visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago last week and has repeatedly expressed his hope that he will be returned to the White House—and his active participation in U.S. partisan political events. Orbán is a darling of the far right and has appeared at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) more than once.  

“While Hungary attempts to wait out those it disagrees with, whether in the United States or the European Union, the rest of the world is moving forward,” Pressman said. “While the Orbán government may want to wait out the United States Government, the United States will certainly not wait out the Orbán administration. While Hungary waits, we will act,” he said. 

“[W]e want what polls consistently show the vast majority of Hungarians want: a close relationship between the United States and Hungary, rooted in democratic values and shared security and prosperity. Exactly what the Prime Minister said he wanted 25 years ago,” he said. “And that is what we still want today.”    

The U.S. has pledged to defend member states in the family of democracies, Pressman said, and while Hungary tied itself to those democracies 25 years ago, “this government’s actions and rhetoric make it sound like it does not feel so firmly anchored. The United States would not be acting as your ally if we did not forthrightly express concern about the course Hungary is charting, through rough seas of its own choosing. We anchored together 25 years ago as democratic Allies; it remains our hope that we sail forward together as part of a stronger, and now larger, democratic Alliance—a choice that remains up to Hungary, its government and its people.”

“I don’t want to talk about things we’ve gone through. Though it’s hurting me, now it’s history…I played all my cards, and that’s what you’ve done too. Nothing more to say, no more ace to play. The winner takes it all, the loser’s standing sma—”

“Richie! Why the fuck are you screaming ABBA at the top of your lungs at seven on a Saturday morning?!”  

Richie Tozier whirled around, spatula slipping from where it had been held up to his mouth as a makeshift microphone.

“Fuck, Eds! You scared the shit outta me, man!” he yelped, fumbling with his phone to pause the music. “I-I thought you didn’t get back ‘til tonight?”

Something in Eddie’s face softened as he shuffled over, wiping a hand across his eyes. 

“I pushed up my flight. Got back last night. I didn’t wanna wake you, so I went straight to bed.”

He halted at the stove, peering into the pan and seeing the makings of Richie’s signature bell pepper omelettes. 

“Enough for me?” he asked hopefully, bumping their shoulders together in a way that always had Richie’s stomach swooping.

“Always,” he bumped his shoulder back in a way he hoped was a lot more casual than it felt.

“Why are you singing angry break-up songs at the crack of dawn, anyway?”

Richie hummed, flapping a hand and keeping his eyes locked on the pan.

“Eh, why not? Sometimes you just gotta jam to some Swedes, ya know?”

Eddie’s eyes trailed the side of his face, no doubt taking in the frown lines and dark circles that marred it.

“...Rich, have you been to bed yet?”

“Uh,” he mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck with one hand and flipping the omelette with the other. “...no?”

Eddie’s stare was downright piercing.

“I—I got home at three last night. Where the hell were you if you weren’t in bed?”

Richie turned on his heel to grab the cheese out of the fridge and took a second to shove his head into it, savouring the cold and the sweet relief of not having to look Eds in the eye as he grumbled. 

“On the balcony.”

Three.

“You were stress smoking again, weren’t you?!”

He tried and failed to hold back a grin.

“You know I was, Eds. I don’t know why it bothers you so mu—”

“Well fuck me for caring about your health, asshole! Don’t you know the stats on—”

“Yeah, I do, because you remind me like four times a day,” Richie cut across his Kaspbrakian rant, cheddar in hand.

“Rich—”

“Eddie, it’s like a couple’a drags a day. And it’s only ‘cause of this Netflix shit. I’ll go cold turkey again when that’s all done, I promise. Blame Bev. She’s a bad influence.”

He practically felt Eddie’s eyes narrow.

“You told me your Netflix meeting went well. So why were you really smoking?”

You know why.

He swallowed down those words with the next flip of an omelette. 

“Sarah get the flight back with you?”

Sarah was Eddie’s Personal Assistant and Richie’s second favourite person at his firm. She was witty, could keep up with Kaspbrakian rants like an OG Loser, and was damn good at her job. Richie wished he could hire her to sort out his life, to be honest. Both personal and professional.

“Yeah, she’s home now. Doesn’t wanna see Erica from Accounting in the vicinity of tequila ever again, apparently.”

The sizzle of the frying pan was the only sound that permeated the kitchen for what felt like hours but, in reality, couldn’t have been more than fifteen seconds before Eddie finally said the words that Richie had been dreading for the last three days.

“So. You wanna talk about it?”

His entire body tensed up, hand gripping the spatula almost painfully as he stared down at the omelette, flipping it.

“Talk about what?”

He could practically feel the stink eye levelled his way, but, a seasoned recipient of such a look, he didn’t cave.

“You kissed me, Richie.”

Shit.

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw an Eddie-shaped blur begin to pace back and forth, hands karate-chopping through the air.

“Right before you left for your meeting the morning I was flying out, you took one last sip of your coffee, closed down your laptop, kissed me on the lips and shot through the door before I could even register what happened.”

Keep it together, Tozier. Breathe.

With shaking hands, he plated the omelette before starting his own.

“I remember.”

There was a short pause at that as if Eddie wasn’t expecting him to just admit it. Which fair, really. It was probably the most direct ol’ Trashmouth had been about his massive crush on him in thirty, not-so-straight years.

“Okay. Good,” Eddie cleared his throat. “Uh…wanna maybe elaborate?”

“Not really.”

“Richie.”

“Eddie.”

“Look,” Richie’s omelette was close to becoming scrambled eggs with the amount he was shaking the pan’s handle.  “It’s not a big deal, Eds, okay? Just a ‘see ya later, bro’ peck or whatever. I just—it was automatic like autopilot. I wasn’t thinkin’, I was runnin’ late, and I just…did it, and before I knew it, I was in the Uber. I didn’t even realise what I’d done ‘til I was halfway to Netflix HQ.”

When he dared a glance, he saw something complicated cross over Eddie’s ridiculously handsome face, and he scrambled to continue.

“I’m sorry, man. I didn’t mean to, like—make you uncomfortable, or whatever. It wasn’t—”

“You didn’t make me uncomfortable.”

“Oh. Right. Okay. Good.”

“Good.”

They stared at one another.

“Just a ‘bro peck’, huh?”

“Yep. Sure.”

“Hmm.”

One beat.

Two. 

Three.

Slowly, quietly, as if approaching a spooked horse, Eddie reached out and gently retrieved his plate from the counter, his pinky finger brushing against the back of his hand. It was embarrassing just how small of a touch from Eddie Kaspbrak still set off fireworks in Richie’s nervous system, lighting him up like the fuckin’ Fourth of July, even after all this time.

“Thanks for breakfast. Bro.”

“No prob—”

Warm lips pressed lightly against his for a split second before Eddie lowered back down on his heels, his giant, dark, bush-baby eyes swimming with something unreadable.

Richie flushed, his stomach erupting with butterflies, dancing the tango with those same fireworks.

With a small smile, Eddie nodded downwards.

“You’re burning your eggs, Trashmouth.”

“Oh, shit!” Richie hissed as soft billows of smoke wafted from the pan.

“Don’t worry,” Eddie remarked from behind him, something that made Richie’s heart race laced in his tone. “You can share mine.”

It felt like it could be so much more than a promise to split breakfast. But with the 1987 rule of ‘Eddie doesn’t share food, it’s unhygienic, Trashmouth,’ still firmly in effect, Richie was beyond stoked either way.

“You know if you want any more ‘bro pecks,’ you’re gonna have to give up smoking though, right?” 

“You drive a hard bargain, Eds. But consider it done.”
