Update on befriending my backyard squirrels:

I just started doing this the week before Easter so I was a little worried they'd forget our progress while I was at Tyler's for two weeks but they came immediately when I called them.

I have three that ALWAYS come when I call now - Bessie, her baby Rickon, and Theon (the only gray one). Several more come sporadically.

I didn't tell you how Bessie got her name - she's a mama squirrel and I could see her big boobies, and because we went with the Game of Thrones theme I immediately thought of Robert Baratheon's fondly-remembered, ample-breasted Bessie! 😂

I have some exciting updates:

I have a opossum living in my bushes again! I've named it Hodor and I leave scraps for it at night now, too.

And this is amazing! I HAVE A RAVEN! I saw it twice before going to Tyler's and two days ago it was back again - so it lives here and wasn't just passing through! Ravens have JUST started returning to northeast Ohio after more than 100 years. There was a report about it last year in the news. Its name is Bran (duh!) and now I have a separate spot to put eggs and fruit and peanuts specifically for it. With some shiny/sparkly xmas baubles and an iridescent pinwheel to attract attention. If I can get it to just take the egg.... 🤞🤞🤞🤞

Hi! I have a bit of an ethical conundrum. I lived in Ohio for 13 years but I'm from Spain and I moved back last year. I have three library cards from Ohio that I'm still using because they haven't expired; they do in July. I don't intend on moving back to the US and I know technically I shouldn't be able to renew them if I'm not a resident any longer, but I use them a lot (I checked out 200 books last year) and I know libraries rely on those numbers for funding. Should I explain the situation to the librarian when it's up for renewal? I would be devastated if I weren't able to use the library system any longer, but I feel badly about it, so I want to know if I would help enough to warrant cheating the system 😂

Ahhh this is a toughie. Librarians are the sort that will do anything in their power to put a book in a person's hands. We are all constitutionally inclined to say 'We don't care as long as you're reading!'

But, we also have to keep the lights on and books on the (metaphorical) shelves for the people whose taxes pay to do that. Circulation helps us make our case when budgeting time comes around, but we have to make the case that we are useful *to taxpayers*.

If we learn that someone's address has changed, that they have moved outside of our district, we HAVE to change the card type to non-resident no matter how much we might want to leave it. It's policy, and we are beholden to the State Board of Accounts.

And libraries do have ways of finding out your current address - we don't rely on self-reporting! They'll probably figure out you moved even if you don't say anything.

Now, your mileage may vary depending on the library so possibly it would be different for any one of those three libraries in Ohio - or maybe they have specific options for people abroad, or other special circumstances.

As an example, we, and many libraries, offer a card you can pay for. The fee is set by complicated state rules but, to put it simply, it's the average amount someone living in our district pays in taxes to the library each year. Right now ours is set at $55 (€50.72), which comes out just over $4.58 (€4.22) a month. Cheaper than... just about anything these days. If your library has to cancel your remote access, they may have an option like this for you!

When I was a kid my mom put me in T-ball, but being in a small town, whether or not you actually got to play was determined by whether or not the coach was buddies with your parents, so "played" is a strong word. Mostly I sat in the dugout ripping grass out of the ground under the bench, and I had my picture taken while holding a bat. Really, the whole thing is only notable for memorialising the fact that around the time the pictures were taken, I had fallen down and scraped my upper lip and the scab that formed made me look like Charlie Chaplin. Other than "playing" T-ball in grade school, no, no sports for me.

5. Do you use sarcasm?

Occasionally.

6. What's the first thing you notice about people?

Their eyes and mouth.

8. Scary movies or comedies?

Guys, I am the biiiiggest wuss, lol. I can only very rarely watch scary movies, and then only if I have full spoilers, and even then sometimes it's too much and I have to turn it off. I've still never managed to watch The VVitch even though I want to. Definitely comedies for me.

9. Any talents?

I'm good at detangling jewellery. I can find tiny pills and earring backs on the floor when everyone else has given up. I've lost it recently, but I used to have a talent for instantaneous memorisation of song lyrics. I'm fairly good at writing dialogue. I can draw little simplistic cartoon cats and chickens. I can roll my tongue. I make really good eggs.

Where do you shop? How long did it take to accumulate your collection?

Hi! This is a great questions and literally anyone can do it and affordable! So I’ve been collecting my whole life but I started going super into it in 2009. Not only do I collect nostalgia, I collect about anything I would see and like, antiques, records vintage clothes, toys, ex. What started my interest is I just saw something a couple antiques i wanted at goodwill and passed it up and I would never live it down. I will forever remember is and kick myself in the ass for it. I said that’s it, I’m not regretting leaving something so cool behind in fear of being judged.

Even though I started in 2009, I will admit, no one has to break bank to start collecting. The best place to start is goodwill, local thrift stores, flea markets, garage sales. I don’t pay much for anything I own in my collection. One time I thrifted an entire huge box full of vintage McDonald’s toys for $2! It’s very simple to do. Some garage sales, people were so tired of selling, they would tell me to have things for free! Like I’m doing them a favor getting rid of the items. lol u really don’t need to spend much.

I started collecting by going to my local goodwill every week and I’d find a cart FULL of 90’s -2000’s finds and I’d spend like max, $50 for my entire cart and I’d find the coolest stuff, toys, clothes, books, ex.

I leave no stones unturned. Some people hid things at goodwill and wait for the color tag to go on sale so look everywhere! I would go by myself and look for a few hours and pick out everything old, and decide at the end what I LOVE and put back things that I just don’t. I’d find cool 2000’s clothes hidden in the kids clothes! I found a vintage adult sized Powerpuff girls sweater in the kids! People hide stuff everywhere and workers also put things in wrong spots just cause it’s got cartoons on them. lol

So the photos of my room is right before I moved into my own house but YES. I slept in that room for years and everyone that walked in thought it was cool! Now I have childhood friends sending me photos of it and asking why my room is all over the internet! lol 😂 I had 2 beds so I could have my best friends over and have cool sleep overs, all my friends, guys and girls loved it and even my boyfriend loved it when we first started dating. My mom loved it cause it reminded her of when me and my sister were kids. She would come up and hang out with me and we would watch Britney and Backstreet Boys videos. I say, do things FOR YOU. If people aren’t supportive, then that’s there problem. As long as ur responsible and not harming anyone or anything, then there is nothing wrong with u doing what makes u happy! ❤️ If u have anything ur really into, the fashion or toys, ask any questions u want, fill free to ask. Something I always do with everything, is pick something up, look for a year. Sometimes older stuff didn’t always have a year on it. Now they always have years.

Also I don’t make YouTube videos anymore but I do have one thrift haul on my YouTube channel Nostalgic Studioz. Can kinda see what I found going to one goodwill! One store is all it takes. lol

Here is one flea market haul and there is that box I spent 2 dollars on to the right. lol I bought all of this in one place, one day at the local flea market. Ohio’s biggest flea market is like 30 mins away and it’s my FAVORITE place in the world. It’s opened all year around and it’s like a giant garage sale.

Hmmm, 2014 is the last time I remember crying. I was diagnosed with a serious autoimmune disease and I was in bad shape and was sure I was over but I'm still here. Medicated within an inch of my life but still here.

Jake is a football man! He’s a lifelong Dallas Cowboys diehard! 

For college football, of course, he loves his alma mater: the United States Naval Academy. However, he grew up watching the University of Texas Longhorns, so he does have a burnt orange jersey in his collection that he wears when appropriate.

Mrs. Seresin hails from the Midwest, which is almost as football fueled as the South. Her loyalties are lax, so she doesn’t have a favorite team, but she hates the Packers. On Sundays, Mrs. Seresin’s background noise is whatever game is on. And by 5:20 on Sunday, she’s on the couch and ready for the prime time game.

They don’t host tailgates as often as they do backyard parties. They host for Thursday and Sunday NFL games, but also like to host college football Saturdays for big rivalry games (think UT vs. A&M and Michigan vs. Ohio State). They are also known for their Super Bowl parties. 

These two do not turn down a sporting event. A daytime date for them is going to the ballpark (major or minor league) to drink beer and eat hotdogs. Don’t bother asking them who won the game—they weren’t paying any attention.

I went into Twisted Hate expecting to not like it; 1.) because from the first two books I was not a fan of Jules and 2.) someone told me I was going to HATE Josh Chen.

After reading it, I LOVED IT!

I kind of figured Jules’ persona was a front, but learning of her past made me feel for her. And then Josh dealing with his past betrayals, it just hurt all the more when his trust was broken yet again. Jules and Josh’s love story is a chaotic one, but so far it’s been the most beautiful as they overcome their pasts together.

For most of the book, I didn’t understand why I was told I was going to hate Josh.. but when THAT scene came up I freakin’ bawled. I’ve never felt so bad for a character like I did with this book. But no worries, as the two previous books were, this one is a HEA.

Hello, what are your headcanons for the Heroes birthdays? And or their zodiac sign (if you’re in that)? I’ve seen people give different answers (like January or April for Hogan) and was curious to know your own opinions!

Thanks so much for the ask, I’ve been looking forward to answering this!! (and sorry it took so long) I’ve been thinking about this ever since I first started watching the show, and your question finally got me to sit down to sort out all of my thoughts. 😂 This is what I’m gonna do: list a birth date, birth year, age in 1942 (since that’s the year we’re given in the pilot), zodiac sign, and my reasoning for all of the above since I don’t wanna just give you random dates and years with no explanation, I’d like to show y'all how I got there lol. I’m not super into zodiac and astrology stuff, but since we’re not really given any information for birth dates I figured I’d use characteristics from different zodiac signs to narrow it down. Besides, it was kinda fun to look at the traits and see what matched who. I’m no expert in astrology, though. All of this was from a quick web search of traits so take that for what you will.

I listed these in the order from who I thought was the oldest to the youngest. So Hogan would be the oldest, followed by Kinch, LeBeau, Newkirk, and then Carter would be the youngest imo. This is certainly gonna be way more than you asked for, so sorry in advance. I got excited.😂 Side note: I did not use any of the actor’s real ages and I didn't take them into consideration, and I may have missed some actual canon details that point to a more accurate birth date/year. I originally was like “none of the heroes are under 25” because I wanted them all to be fairly close in age, and I could only make Hogan so young and still be reasonable. But the more I thought about it, the more I started to not like that hc because they’re a very diverse team. These guys all come from different countries or states, and they come from all walks of life., so it makes sense for that diversity to extend to their age range. Therefore, I ended up going a different route with that. (I’m just clarifying that here because I’ve discussed this with some friends before, and I’ve since changed my ideas on it.)

Reasoning: Considering Hogan lists so many places that he’s lived or been to (like Connecticut, Ohio, Wisconsin, Chicago, and Indianapolis off the top of my head) I assume that he was probably a military brat, and I can see that playing a role in him joining the military before WW2 started. He probably went to university and did ROTC - you have to have a bachelor’s degree to be an officer - before graduating and joining the service as a second lieutenant. If we say he graduated high school at 18, then graduated college at 22, this would put us at the year 1929 - 1930. That gives us a little over 10 years for him to rise up in rank by the time the US becomes involved in the war. But he’s definitely a colonel by the time the US steps in…or has just become one, at any rate. Colonels were the ones you usually saw leading your bomber squadrons (and we know he commanded the 504th until he was shot down, although I do think it’s kinda humorous that the actual 504th was in the Pacific during the war). I think that about covers it.

Obviously, the requirements are different for becoming a colonel nowadays. (Until the signing of the National Defense Authorization Act of 2019, an officer was required to have 22 years of cumulative service and be a lieutenant colonel for a minimum of 3 years.) However, it’s implied in the show that Hogan was young for a colonel. Some of those promotions could have come after the war had started where promotions were occuring a lot faster than normal. (From second lieutenant the ranks go as follows: first lieutenant, captain, major, lieutenant colonel, then colonel. Now I realize that’s five ranks to jump in the span of 11-12 years…but some of those promotions could have come after the war had started where, like I said before, people rose up in rank very quickly.)

As for the April birthdate, in the episode “Hogan Gives A Birthday Party” Biedenbender asks Klink if he’s prepared for a birthday. Klink (being confused) says something along the lines of, “Oh, of course! We’ve been preparing for months…wait, do you mean the Führer’s birthday?” I’m assuming Hitler’s birthday - which was on April 20th - was coming up, so I just went with a date that was a bit before that point.

Kinch

Birth date: August 30

Birth year: 1911-1912

Age in 1942: 30-31

Zodiac: Virgo, and here are the traits that make me think that:

Here's a couple of quotes I think represent his Virgo traits as well: “Smart, sophisticated, and kind, Virgo gets the job done without complaining.” and “You're funny. Your wry sense of humor and sharp observation skills can't be beat.”

Reasoning: I made Kinch the second oldest because of his position as second-in-command (so Carter outranking him and not being in this position makes sense if Carter is younger, but I’ll elaborate on that later when I get to Carter.) It also makes sense because of his relationship with Hogan. Obviously being close in age isn’t the only factor in a friendship (heck, most of my friends are 10+ years older than me) but I’ll also elaborate more on this when I get to LeBeau. Kinch is also extremely level headed (for sure the only sane man in Stalag 13 + the keeper of the brain cell) so he’s either very mature for his age, or he’s a little older than the other guys (which I’ve obviously gone with the second option). He’s always come off as way more mature than the rest of the heroes, and he’s obviously someone Hogan trusts (not that Hogan doesn’t trust the other guys, you can just tell it’s a different kind of trust with Kinch), and I think that partially has to do with them being closer in age (which is another reason I made Hogan a little younger than most people hc). In “Is General Hammerschlag Burning?” where he meets up with a girl he went to high school with, it’s implied it’s been a while since he’s graduated so I also took that into consideration. Considering that he’s worked at the phone company and has done some boxing, I feel like this gives him enough time to have done some of this stuff between graduating and joining the military/being drafted into the military, if that makes sense. I went with August 30 because it falls within the dates for a Virgo. Also - and I don’t know why - Kinch just gives me August vibes.😂

LeBeau

Birth date: July 28

Birth year: 1914

Age in 1942: 28

Zodiac: Leo + traits that I think suit him:

Pride

Passion

Vivacity

Protective

Stubborn

Plus this quote: “Roll out the red carpet because Leo has arrived. Passionate, loyal, and infamously dramatic, Leo is represented by the lion. These spirited fire signs are the kings and queens of the celestial jungle. They're delighted to embrace their royal status: Vivacious, theatrical, and fiery…” I wouldn’t say he’s super self-centered though.

Reasoning: I do not know why, but there was a tiny voice in the back of my head just screaming 28 when I was trying to determine how old LeBeau might be 😂 so here we are. But the more I thought about it, it kinda actually works out, and here’s why: LeBeau is at that cusp of being mature but also not. Like one second he seems somewhat put together, and then the next he’s arguing with Carter and Newkirk like they’re teenagers (and it’s hilarious). Now I’d like to clarify something before I say this next bit: I am not implying that LeBeau has no friends on the team or that he is unloved. Anyway, we see Hogan and Kinch are pretty close and that Carter and Newkirk are the same way. LeBeau’s close with everybody, so putting him in the middle makes the most sense to me because he can relate to the older members of the team, as well as the younger. 

Other factors I considered are that he’s a very good cook, so I tried to give him enough time to have experience in the kitchen. He also mentions what appears to be a forced marriage (I don’t remember the episode it was from, but someone gets volunteered for something by Hogan and LeBeau makes a comment about how he got married the same way). This marriage could have very well been a situation where a girl LeBeau was seeing ended up pregnant, so considering the time period, it was natural that they got married. To me, this hints that LeBeau wasn’t ready to settle down and have a family. But then we see how he interacts with Wilhelmina in “LeBeau and the Little Old Lady” and you can tell that he really cares for her. (Considering this is towards the end of season 3, LeBeau would be in his early 30s) so now it seems like he is ready for that type of commitment. This is why I put LeBeau in his late twenties, because he seems to be close to growing into himself (for lack of a better term), but he still acts like a kid sometimes (affectionate lol). Obviously age isn’t the only factor in determining somebody’s maturity - that's not what I’m trying to imply at all. But for the sake of making it easier to determine a possible age for LeBeau, it's the route I took.

Newkirk

Birth date: November 1

Birth year: 1918

Age in 1942: 24

Zodiac: Scorpio, and corresponding traits:

I thought it was so funny that listed under best careers for a Scorpio is “con artist” 😂 Also, here’s a couple of quotes that I thought fit him as well. “Scorpio tries so hard to seem tough that they sometimes cut off their vulnerable side entirely, seeming prickly, uncaring, and cold to outsiders. While expressing emotion is scary, learning how to do it is key for Scorpio, since presenting an "I don't care" veneer can only work for so long before it gets exhausting!” and “If a Scorpio is committed to someone or something, they stick with it. Their trust is hard to earn, but once they do trust someone, they dedicate their whole self to that person, and apply their classic determination to stand by friends, family, and partners.” I love how the last one could apply to Hogan, especially considering he was an officer (I kinda like to think that Newkirk and Carter would be fast friends though, which came as a surprise to Newkirk).

Reasoning: If y'all haven’t noticed, Newkirk’s impulse control is zero. I’m pretty sure the only reason he hasn’t killed anyone is because of Hogan. Hogan seems to have some of the same characteristics as Newkirk, but Hogan’s older and has learned to control himself a bit more. That’s partially why I hc Newkirk as being one of the younger heroes. Also - and I mean this affectionately - but just look at his friendship with Carter. Yeah, it’s a grumpy x sunshine pairing, but they’re both absolute goofballs. And have you ever noticed how sometimes the other guys would get on them for not doing their job well? I mean, maybe that’s cuz they were the two youngest of the group. Sure, Newkirk gives it right back to them, but I don’t think he ever starts it with anyone besides LeBeau, who would be the closest in age to him out of the older heroes in my hc. (I’d just like to clarify now that I do not condone the bullying that started to pick up in the later seasons. It was so out of character and I hated it…but that’s a discussion for another time and place.)

I feel like putting Newkirk at 24 also gives him time to kinda build his career as an entertainer. I hc him leaving home at around 16 and leaving to join the circus (putting us at the year 1934). Say he spends a couple of years there, and eventually ends up going solo and starts working as a magician, putting us roughly in the year 1936-1937. Now obviously he’s gotten really good at sleight of hand by this point, and he starts building up his career as a magician. He even starts dating a fan dancer. By the time the war starts in 1939, Newkirk was probably fairly well established, which leads me to believe he’d be drafted rather than joining voluntarily (which, being 20 going on 21 in 1939, is inevitable). 

Carter

Birth date: March 19

Birth year: 1919

Age in 1942: 23

A couple of quotes: “Have you ever met someone who was sensitive and dreamy, and maybe their head was a little too stuck up in the clouds?” I wouldn’t say he’s always stuck up in the clouds, but he does have his moments. “Pisces is a very friendly sign, often finding themselves in the company of diverse people. They are selfless and always willing to help others.”

Reasoning: First off, please don’t come after me for making Carter the youngest. I am not trying to infantilize him. I mean Carter’s still out here talking about his sweetheart, and he was getting ready to potentially start a career as a pharmacist. To me, it indicates he’s one of the younger ones on the team because he’s basically just getting started. Hogan also makes a comment directed towards Carter in “The Purchasing Plan” referring to him as “cub scout”, so I also take that as a hint that he’s probably pretty young. Also mentioned in “The Purchasing Plan” is Carter going to business school, so I gave him four years for that (which if he graduated high school at 18, that would put him at 22 when he graduated from business school). Once he was out of school (assuming he graduated in May), this would give him about seven-ish months before the US became involved in WW2. (I know he ran a drug store, but he could’ve been working while he was in school too). 

Carter being younger than Kinch - yet being above him in rank - would explain why Kinch is seen as Hogan’s second-in-command. It would also explain why Newkirk often refers to him as Andrew or Carter, even though he also outranks him. (I also made them only one year apart, and they’re pretty good friends). I don’t think this is a sign of disrespect or underestimation, as Carter is still an important part of the core team of heroes, but it’s understandable that Hogan would want someone a little older in that position. Again, considering how a lot of people were being promoted quickly because there was a need for officers and NCOs, it’s very likely Carter was able to prove himself capable and quickly climb the ranks, even though he’s fairly young. Carter is also a bit naive at times and very much still figuring some stuff out. (I don’t mean this in a bad way, that’s just how it is in your early 20s.)  I like to think the several instances of him calling Hogan "boy", then correcting himself in a couple of seconds by  saying "sir" instead is a good example of this.😂

Yeah, you’ll have to let me know what you learn next season and doing that because that will be very interesting. Definitely gonna stick with my bengals though they’re my team even though I’m not from Ohio they have definitely grown to be my favorite in the last few years.

But now I get to watch the Lions in the 49ers game. So I’m hoping the 49ers can pull it off although it would be very cool to see the Lions make it to the Super Bowl so I’m actually not counting them off. I feel like this is a neutral game for me like I’m not gonna be mad either way. 

Can’t wait to see what the Bengals do with a healthy Joe!

this morning!! i tear up ALLLL the time but i straight up cried over a fic i finished because it was so good!! (it was from love, obviously, please go read it!!!)

nope! might someday though!

i played soccer for a long time but i fucked my knee up when i was in 8th grade and had to have surgery and never got back into it. i’ve got too many health issues now, but i’m not really a sports person anyway.

i had to actually think about this. yes, but not nearly as much as i used to!

hm. i’m actually not sure. i’ve never really thought about it. it might sound insane but if i’m actually talking to a person, i probably notice what their mouth looks like first because i struggle to make eye contact with people i don’t know and its way easier to look at someone’s mouth 😂

15. dream job?

man. i dunno. i haven’t worked in a few years (both a blessing and an absolute fucking curse). all i want to do is be able to help the people who live in my community. i live in alabama and there are SO many bad things that can be said about this state but it’s my home! and i just want to be able to make my home a better place instead of giving up and/or giving in and just moving somewhere else. call me naive or an idealist or whatever, but its one of the things i want most in my life and i think its 100% possible!
