If AtLA did get that season 4 the writers wanted, I kinda wonder if they would've revealed the origins of the Avatar and what they would've done; as LoK's take on the spirits and the origins of the Avatar and bending felt disconnected from what AtLA previously set up (at least for me).

As I never got the original show's answer, it led to me pondering it and I had a thought I felt makes more sense.

Based on AtLA and how spirits were, I thought that the Avatar originally started as a powerful spirit that was tied to nature, and had a fondness for humanity and how they connected to nature, strong enough that they developed bending. And similar to La and Tui, they mortalized themselves in human form to be amongst other humans, only they had the unique ability to bend all four elements.

And between being a powerful spirit that's tied to people and the four elements, and the devotion to be there for people, the Avatar Cycle just came to be upon the first death and the first birth, this spirit always becoming reborn in a new elemental nation, to grow up amongst the people it naturally cared for, having a new life to live, to have new experiences, and forming new friendships while also finding old friendships that will last lifetimes. And given the spiritual origins, can also work off the unique role the Avatar has between the spirit realm and the material realm.

I feel this thought makes more sense for the origins of Avatar and working more off AtLA's set up of spirits and the origins of bending.

And while I would vote the actual spirit be left a mystery, IF it had to be specified on what it was, I probably would've voted they were a lion turtle. Like, even in AtLA, they're set up as incredibly mystical and spiritual, and able to manipulate energy itself, and I think the creators even had the idea that people used to live on their backs before LoK confirmed it, confirming they did have a close connection to people.

Everything about them is kinda set up to be like, a precursor to the Avatar. Mindful, it's not a requirement, but that could be a potential reason why the lion turtle arose to help Aang in his time of need, how they sensed Aang was lost and in need of guidance and advise, the Avatar potentially was the soul of a lion turtle, and playing off the lion aspect, they are sociable and work as a team.

It's not a stretch to think a spirit tied to lions are open to helping another.

Either way, this is a thought I wanted to share as an alternative to LoK's answer for the Avatar origins as I just wasn't all that crazy about it.

I did some casual gathering on the good ol Wik. I don't recognize a lot or any of the previous works that he has been a part of, but it is a plenty some, so feel free to take a look for yourself. for a better idea, I took a glance at him through IMBD as well. I gotta be honest, not to cause any concern but just to be blunt, it's not the best look. when briefly checking out the works that he's done, a good some of them only make it up to 6 stars. only a few actually make it up to 8. but of course this could be due to a couple different factors, such as the source materials being not well known, or just not that great to begin with. after all he works mainly with adaptation. this could be his big break idk maybe :>

honestly, this could be a potential concern as well. we all know that an unfortunate part of the fandom, especially over in japan, is into things the rest of us would rather not see in anime. I don't know why else yana would continue to add fan-service time and time again(I'd rather not think of her personal preferences). so if this person is really interested in pandering to the fanbase, it may lead to some scenes being uncomfortable... as usual. but, I shouldn't focus on the negative, all in all this looks like it will be a good thing! all we want from an anime adaptation is for it to be faithful to the manga, and especially after season 1 and 2, I think this assurance is much needed. besides, this could be an indication that he will be working closely with Yana, and projects that do so have succeeded *points to campania*. I'm optimistic, and I sure hope that we're in good hands.

so unless I'm looking at a different Hiroyuki Yoshino it looks like this guy is a voice actor and singer first... interesting. as far as I can see it, he hasn't voice acted anyone in Black Butler.

oh no yea completely different guy, my bad! very different. the Real Hiroyuki Yoshino(screenwriter) was the screenwriter for Book of the Atlantic! sorry. we're all good here, perfect in fact.

Yumi Shimizu: Character design

I'm not really jumping out of my seat to research this one, no offense to the designer, but I don't think we'll be seeing much character design other than Yana's. as for the artistic style of the anime, we already saw the teaser, and I think we're happy(I am really trilled that they released the announcement at the same time as the teaser, the announcement alone would not have had the same huge impact. plus it reduces the fear of cancelation ;] not putting that out there).

this is someone I really wanted to look into cause the music will matter a lot to me.

I found it, here's the soundtrack for the upcoming season 4.

with a background of jazz and band(popularizes to fusion genre apparently), this guy doesn't appear to fit with previous Black Butler soundtrack history. but I think that this is an indication that the mood and music of this season may be different of the rest due to it now being a sports show lol. and I think that's good! if done right I think the tone change will be hilarious, or, if everyone hates it, it's easily distinguishable from the rest.

Gosh, did you know, the first HAL game I ever played was "Adventures of Lolo" on the NES! I...couldn't beat it. I was too young to work out the puzzles. I loved how waddle-y Lolo was!!

So, for those not in the know, in Lolo's own series, he's... well...

In the anime, there are similar looking characters named Fololo and Falalala (although the "fo" was added to the English dub for.... uh, I have no idea why! ^^) who are, ahem... :checks cue cards: ...two halves of the same Nightmare Enterprises monster that were split in two as part of a money-making scheme and to hide from King Dedede that they were a super weak monster. They were somehow kicked out and taken in by the good guys after that?

As for Lololo and Lalala in game... ARE they from Eggerland?

I guess "from Eggerland" depends. To me, they've left their mark as 100% "official" Kirby characters. HAL Labs has included a number of cameo characters before, most notably in Dream Land 3 which not only had Chao from Yuyuki appearing in DL2 (who was turned into the "girl" Gooey in the English version) but bounty hunter Samus Aran!

For those who have any faith in the accuracy of the Kirby Encyclopedia, I want to note that Chao, Samus, and the others were noted to NOT be "true" Kirby characters. (Sorry, Escargoon fans, as the same was said of him and his appearance in Mass Attack...)

But not Lololo and Lalala! They seem to be their own characters, as distinct from their anime selves as anime Dedede, anime Meta Knight, and anime Kirby are from THEIR game selves.

(Which is probably good because that is seriously a weird origin story! There's something to be said about the delightfully gender-bending and even genderfluid-positive (!) idea that there is a fully capable masc and femme side to every person, able to live on independently - although HOW independent is arguable because Fololo and Falala never seem to want to be apart - but the fact that tacking a bow onto the girl side was the only way they could depict this was a little cheesy. I know, I know. Kid's comedy show ^^)

Another thing is that, apparently (?) before their origin as a single being is known, they are treated as siblings in the anime? (And yet, their episode is called "The Melody of Love." That's not...uh...)

While at some point (fandom wiki says in the promotional flyer for Twinkle Popo) they were called "a married couple!" I think I personally tended to see them as "together" rather than siblings and I can only assume that impression came from Adventures of Lolo since there was no way I could have seen the Twinkle Popo flyer.

That said, they're NOT the same Lolo and Lala (to me) because they're not cameo characters. And the names... Lolo and Lala's kid was Lulu but it's not weird for the next generation (or several generations down) to be named after grandparents or other family members back in the tree. But for them to both be named after one lends credence to "maybe they're siblings after all?"

....I think I just think of them as "Lololo and Lalala." I'm probably not going to ever draw ship art of them, so does it matter how they're related? To me, they're just together. From my first days with Kirby's Dream Land, once I got over the initial pleasant surprise of "Oh my gosh, It's Lolo and Lala from Adventures of Lolo!!" (Tiny Dess, they are LoloLO and LalaLA. Get it right!) they quickly grew to be like any resident of Dream Land to me! A familiar, comforting presence!

Well, okay, the whole "Castle Lolo" thing makes me see them as Dream Land / Popstarian nobility of a sort! Maybe not on the level of royalty, like his hammer-wielding majesty, although they DID side with him in the initial food-stealing incident! (They weren't chosen to protect a piece of the Star Rod, which is very interesting. Maybe the anime was onto something with them being "too weak?")

Either way, I'd say they're pretty laid back nobles, letting everyone use their castle for fights! Maybe it's one of those things where they open it up every now and then for parties and games?!

In short, while I have no answers, I like them well enough and I'm always happy to see a reappearance of them! And maybe next time they appear, HAL will let us know whether they're a pair or pairing!

(Although this is the same studio responsible for keeping the Ado / Adeleine debate going so probably not! ^_- )

Hi! I was the one complaining about Bird Harrow. It's been bugging me enough I rewatched the first couple of episodes. From a writing perspective, they introduce the Soulfang Serpent! It's only purpose is to do a body-swap! This scene serves other purposes, so it could just be a prop, but the snake comes back later. It serves to show Viren is kinda cutthroat about his goals (theoretically condemning another person do die in place in Harrow) and Harrow is a Paladin (Boy Scout) about stuff.

It's pretty good characterization! It shows Viren really likes his plans, especially because they're His Plans (which kind of makes it weird later when he's just super down for Avaros' plans. I know it's spelled wrong but I'm not looking it up. Moving on). He's an egomaniac, and Harrow carries guilt over the events that happened, and sees his impending doom as an atonement, though is still planning to put up a fight because it's his duty. Great, good. Next Episode!

Viren's still got the snake! Argument ensues! it's the one they had last episode, to remind everyone of their dynamic.

Bird alights on shoulder! This was a deliberate choice! for a reason! You don't just set this up because it's Dramatic!

Viren appears, sans snake. So at this point, we have two options. Either the animators made a... not necessarily a continuity blunder, but a real interesting choice, OR it's missing for a reason. (I'm being heavy-handed with this but I'm annoyed at the wiki) Yadda yadda, the "Invincible" Moonshadow elves apparently narrowly succeed in their assassination attempt. Suggesting that if Harrow had actually been allowed to fight they probably would've been fine, actually.

But he doesn't Fight. He doesn't emerge from his quarters at all! Really weird for a dude unwilling to sacrifice people merely to save his own life! Gosh, something must have happened in there! But What could it be????

Viren doesn't care about this bird. There's no reason to cage the bird. The bird does not appear to have a cage, prior to this. It's an incredibly distinctive element they spent a lot of work on that, as far as I can tell, does not appear again. And most importantly. They never show Harrow's Body. Which is kind of an odd choice, if he wasn't a bird. Since if he wasn't a bird, it would be a dramatic shot! Nevermind the Dramatic Fight he could have had with the assassin! If he was a bird, well, you'd probably not want to show the king fighting like a bird in a man's body just for the dignity of it, and also showing his corpse would muddle the VERY OBVIOUS IMAGERY YOU'VE SET UP TO THIS POINT THAT THE MAN IS GONNA GET BIRD'D! Deep Breath. At SDCC 2019 creator Justin Richmond said that Harrow was killed by the elven assassins. This enters the realm of speculation, but unless he's just outright lying (which is... boring) it would indicate to me that this idea was cut at some point after most of these shots were finished, and it would be too expensive to remake them. So... most of the connective tissue was left, kicked under the rug as best as they could, afforded little other choice. Because the alternative is that they're incredibly, fundamentally unskilled at visual storytelling, which frankly, seems wild. The show is very, deeply flawed, but they do consistently demonstrate proficiency in the shots chosen for other threads in this opening plot. So many choices are done carefully and deliberately, that to fumble this one Major thing? Seems nutty. And it's really disappointing because Ezran coming home and chatting with Dad Bird and unravelling Viren's plot is Way more compelling than anything else they actually did do in the show. Come to think of it, maybe it's when they decided to have Aravos as the/a big bad. idk. Viren's dealing with Asarov to seem mildly-to-fairly inconsistent with his characterization in these early scenes. and not in a way that demonstrates any kind of meaningful arc.

Rant over. Thanks for listening. I doubt we'll ever get a good answer to this.

This was a highly entertaining read, np! I felt the same way when I rewatched the beginning of the show dsnjkavkas. Those first few episodes are directed much better than the rest of the show, and you're right, it's so weird if they are really meaningless. There is also a shot at the end of the season showing the bird escaping the cage, and then we NEVER SEE IT AGAIN. It shows up again only in Viren's imagination in s5. SO WHAT WAS ALL THIS FOR HUH. But honestly the show LOVES to introduce concepts and then drop them, so I wouldn't even be surprised if they just did it for the vibes and making it seem like a Cool Mature Fantasy Thing where the villain keeps the dead hero's animal companion in a cage instead of any proper writing reason.

and i have to point out that neither jimmy nor amanda ever specified that ivy is bi. they didn't label her sexuality. what they did say was this

i've seen a number of people use this as "proof" recently and again, not valid. that is a fandom wiki that just about anyone can edit and write anything they please. i checked to see if the person in question provided any references i may not be aware of and unfortunately they didn't. they only mention the existence of a "pride cover featuring poison ivy with the lesbian flag" and apparently they're talking about the kris anka variant for harley quinn #4 that was released last year

the color scheme can be misleading for sure. i don't know if anka did it intentionally or not, but i do know for a fact that he's normally not shy about attaching a pride flag aesthetic to a character. a solid example is his work on marvel's runaways, which has karolina dean (canon lesbian) and nico minoru (canon bisexual)

so if he intended for that to be the lesbian flag, on a cover for the harley quinn run that features both harley and ivy, i believe he would've definitely found a way to center the flag colors on ivy alone. but, again, i can't possibly claim to know exactly what went on through his head, so, at the end of the day, make of it what you will, i suppose

now onto why her sexuality is such a hot topic for debate despite everything mentioned above. ivy has been portrayed as a misandrist more often than not. she never pursues romantic or sexual relationships with men without an ulterior motive—they are always a means to an end. with women, it's different. the connection is genuine, the feelings are real. her main love interest in the main continuity of the comics and almost every alternate universe, is harley. and whenever she happens to get a different love interest, it's a woman (see this post) even the casual hook-ups are with women (e.g. catwoman lonely city #3 and poison ivy #4)

and so, of course, none of this invalidates the possibility of her being bisexual. because misandry and bisexuality are not mutually exclusive, and her aversion to men stems from past traumatic experiences and the abuse she suffered at the hands of jason woodrue. but, at the same time, a case can just as easily be made that she is lesbian-coded. either way: she loves women. the end. 💚

What's your take on the Monster High Isi Dawndancer situation? Isi was their only Native American doll, but the company, citing many concerns and criticisms from Native people over the course of the original doll's release, have decided not to reissue her in the Monster High reboot, as they feel she's an offensive character and do not wish to insult Native people.

This has caused some people - who are white - to defend why she's a great character actually, and I don't like that I can't find Native voices talking about this. So I turned to you to get actual Native input: is this a character who should be rereleased as a doll and included in the new webispodes, in your opinion, or did the company do the right thing by removing her?

Okay so I looked at the TV Tropes page and her wiki page and here are my thoughts:

She's a deer spirit, specifically based off of the Deer Woman apparently. Really don't know how I feel about the Monster High franchise using a sacred spirit as inspiration for a character, but she's not a w-ndigo, which is. . . something, I guess. More than I expected. Also I just hate deer-centered Native characters in general. They're tacky, overdone, stereotypical, and often dehumanizing.

"Native Scaremerican" can we fucking not actually. In complete seriousness though, she doesn't seem to have any official tribe/nation, which is very aggravating.

She's wearing what looks to be dreamcatchers, which are Ojibwe (Northern midwest US). The wiki says that her clothing patterns are "Aztec", but they definitely look more like they're inspired by a number of different Southwest tribes, namely the Apache, Diné, and Hopi. She's from "Boo Hexico", which supports the Southwestern influence, but her name is Choctaw, which is a Southest nation. So she's a mishmash of a whole bunch of unrelated cultures :/. Also the feathers are shitty and unnecessary and her name is just stereotypical in general.

"She is a deer spirit from Boo Hexico who lived there all her life until a vision notified her of Monster High and urged her to study there." A vision? Really? The Native American character gets spiritual visions to guide her?

Dancing seems to be the only cultural thing she's got going for her. What kind of dancing is unclear. Is she a jingle dancer? Fancy shawl? Buckskin? Because traditional dances have purposes and meanings, they're not just generic swaying and that seems to be the vibe they're going with for her.

(I hope it's not buckskin dancing. That would be weird all things considered.)

The TV Tropes page says that she has a power that makes guys fall in love with her and she's repeatedly described as flirty. There's a lot of awful stereotypes centered around the idea of Native women being seductive and irresistible and I do NOT like seeing that continued here.

"The birds of the air and beasts of the field are all my friends. I would not want to cause jealousy by choosing one over the other." Wow. A Native American character who just loves animals so much and has a special connection to them. How unique and interesting.

All in all, she's a fucking mess and even just looking at her design makes me want to cringe out of my skin. I definitely support the company's decision to discontinue her for the reboot, but it would ring very hollow if they continue to produce dolls of her. I also feel like just discontinuing her completely is a cop-out because companies use that sort of backlash against stereotypical characters as an excuse to not include Native characters at all, claiming that it's just not worth risking offending people when they really just don't want to put in the work.

To preface, I am not the best person to ask because I was too tomboyish for Winx Club and I was not a fan growing up [the outfits put me off], so this is me having to look things up. ^o^; BUT, I gave it my best shot and now I have answers for you!

[This ask is following up on this post about W.I.T.C.H., most likely.]

Before looking it up, I was pretty sure Winx Club was not censored, because I have very vague memories of seeing it as is, because the art style is super-stylized and simplistic (with W.I.T.C.H., it's detailed and you can see the lines of their pelvic bones, etc.), but I'm pretty sure Winx Club simply wasn't picked up by the same group.

From the looks of things, no Arabic translation of the magazines for Winx Club even exists!

W.I.T.C.H.'s comics were not actually handled by anyone affiliated with the Syrian-based Space Toon, apparently, it was an Emirati company that translated the comics and censored them, which... actually makes sense, because Space Toon never aired the cartoon. Back then, Space Toon did not have the digital editing know-how to subtly recolour or edit outfits like they can now. Shows used to get a lot of random cuts or repeated scenes to avoid very short skirts, etc., nowadays, it's just slap-some-tights/long-socks-on-characters, presto!

Winx Club simply never got an Arabic translation for the comics, it seems. I'm googling and finding nothing, even found a cute (very dated, somewhat eye strain-inducing [the bright green and orange layout...]) fan forum dedicated to Winx Club and the fans are just sharing links to pictures of comics in western languages--it seems we never got it translated!

It gets interesting when you move onto the animated adaptations. Winx was dubbed by two completely different two companies!

Seasons 1-3 were dubbed by the Lebanon-based company, Ar-Riham (they also dubbed two movies, apparently!) without any censorship, as it was straight-to-DVD, with multiple audio tracks, so no cuts, while the fourth season was dubbed by the Syria-based Tanweer Studios.

Tanweer Studios, which dubbed the fourth season, dubbed it for airing on TV and MBC 3 insisted on no romance and no kissing, and edited out nudity in the transformation sequences it seems!

Get this, for the animated adaptation of W.I.T.C.H., it was dubbed by the same second group (Tanweer Studios) that covered season 4 of Winx Club. (No censorship of the outfits in the animated version, Arabic dubbing companies simply did not have the technical know-how for that back then + honestly, they're already toned down/less detailed/don't ride as low as the comics...)

Even the Arabic Wikipedia article on Winx Club does not mention anything about an Arabic translation for the magazines, although it does talk about the development and how the show came to be, and lists information on both Arabic dubbing companies and lists casts...

Not all Arabic dubs and translations censor like I mentioned earlier, it's Venus Centre (which dubs for Space Toon) that holds very high standards and is super careful about making shows developmentally age appropriate backed by child development experts (which is why their shows for little kids strip away nearly all romance and it can get goofy because they'll sometimes pull an accidental incest by turning couples into siblings that'd just be really weird if visually you can recognize it ends in a wedding?! I don't think they do things that awkwardly anymore, but--they only keep romance in shows for teens and there, the words boyfriend/girlfriend get replaced with fiance/fiancee since Muslims don't date--that's it, though, otherwise, their dubs are very, very high quality in terms of translation and voice acting, etc.) and inoffensive to a Muslim majority audience (so you get very amusingly transparent alcohol cover-ups, adults can tell it's alcohol, but little kids might buy the "juice" excuse, but characters are still red-faced and stumbling/angry/sleepy/what-have-you.)

The Arabic dubs that air on MBC3 and the like are generally less uncensored, but have... variable quality voice acting, some decent, others very wooden and dry, or are dubbed in a specific dialect rather than pure classical Arabic like Venus Centre, so it might not be as easy and universal for Arabic-speakers to understand.

I honestly had no idea MBC 3 had a no romance rule, this might be something that was true in the past! I can totally believe the no kissing rule because Khaleeji/Arabic Gulf Arabic shows even for adults do not show kissing.

i've been watching the 60s addams show and i may have possibly went down another rabbit hole. just because the musing for wednesday hid from my sight (and i intend on finding it).

anywho, we all know that the addamses are of mexican descent. though it did made me wonder why in the animated movie from 2019 had sabre mazurka as a rite of passage. for those of you curious, mazurka is a dance of polish origin. moreover, in one of the screencaps with wednesday's writing on the 2022 show, we see another polish mention polish kielbasas, which is basically just a sausage.

bottom line is, maybe they are mexican (of spanish descent) and polish. but then i started googling more information and not only is one of the addamses apparently responsible for the destroying of alexandria's library (which also mentions a muslim name, said ancestor being mamoud khali pasha addams, which gramatically would be mahmud khalid ; pasha was a turkish term to describe the ottoman occupation of the balkan area, while addams serves just as a proof that he belonged to the addams family tree which we all know).

okay so now we have : mexican, spanish, polish, arabic and turkish. already a lot for my fried brain. but as i descent into madness like any other madman out there, there's more.

in the 60s show, morticia apparently comes from salem, massachusets. here's a reminder for everyone : that's where the salem witch trials took place. mostly women, but few men included were accused of witchcraft and hanged. so i was looking for names of actual victims of the salem witch trials. on the wiki page is where i found a picture taken for augustus saint-gaudens' statue entitled the puritan. and the way it looked was familiar. 1st picture is puritan statue, 2nd picture is crackstone's statue from wednesday.

of course it looked familiar because i've seen it in the 2022 netflix series. the puritan statue is joseph crackstone. okay so that means goody addams was one of the witches that somehow got away. but wait, if the witch trials happened in salem, then why are we here in jericho? also, fun fact, if this batshit crazy theory is correct, then the addams family universe and the fear street universe fall into the same universe actually. sarah (not friar, but good) was one of the first three women accused of witchcraft. who was the puritan that conducted these trials? you guessed it, samuel parris. so sarah and samuel exist. and so did goody addams. but who could she be?

so i am now looking at the victims of the salem witches trials. well, what if she is actually goody? well, sort of. according to my very poor research, sarah good had two daughters : dorcas (wrongly known as dorothy) and mercy (who unfortunately did not make it). according to this site "Four-year-old accused witch Dorcas Good went insane after spending months in prison and watching her baby sister die while in jail with their mother, who was later hanged."

that being said, it could be goody addams is actually dorcas good. if she did went insane after what she'd gone through and like morticia said goody was a witch of great strength but her vengeance pushed her too far and even she couldn't save herself.

bottom line is, like any family tree out there, most people are not entirely belonging to one singular ethnicity. the addamses are just like everyone else in that sense. they're hispanic but also polish, turkish, arabic and english (and probably so much more). thank you for coming to my verotalk, i am going insane.

Good morning Alex, and it is April the 1st, 2023. Wish you got this day, you definitely would have had a better idea. Being the dummy that I am, the only thing I can provide today is… a compilation of big franchises pulling pranks. Sorry.

Minecraft

Minecraft is an ever expanding game, unlike most games, which release, get a few DLC, maybe a few patches if the game is too buggy. So what do they do with this power? That’s right, release a joke update every April Fool’s. There have been some truly hilarious updates that came out of this. My favourite is the 2020 one, where they made an infinity update, where you could explore an infinite number of procedurally generated dimensions. There’s also the 2015 Love and Hugs update, where, there’s a love meter, you can spread love to other mobs, a minesweeper retexture, and much more. This year apparently, all they did was set the launcher on fire :P. No big deal, they are probably busy with the actual update they're gonna release soon, but still, a bit of a disappointment considering what came before.

DC made an announcement on 2018, that they were giving every superhero their trunks back, whether they had trunks at some point in their long existence or not.

This is just hilarious, especially on Cyborg, he’s mostly computer lmao. Sidenote here, as someone who googles literally everything that pops into their mind, I found out why superheroes wore their underwear on the outside. Superhero costumes at the very beginning were inspired by circus costumes, who also wore unitards, or whatever they’re called, I’m terrible at fashion. So. male circus performers wore two pairs of underwear, for reasons you can imagine, so comic artists also inherited that. This is why Batman and Superman wore them, but not GL and The Flash, since they were the first ever superheroes.

I’m definitely gonna make a dev log, and it’ll probably have supernatural abilities, because nothing compares to the experience in Batman: Arkham and Control, although, I don’t know if that will be possible, since that would require 3D, it’s possible in 2D but nowhere near as fun. I have no art skills nor 3D modelling skills, so pixel art is probably easiest, but you know, it’s a little dated, and it’s hard to innovate in 2D, you know about my obsession with innovation (That sounds like a cool motto for a tech company), so yeah, I haven’t even decided on the genre. Company mottos are so dumb, like Nvidia’s “The Way It’s Meant To Be Played” like no Nvidia, your crappy software is not the way I’d like to play. Okay, I’ll stop, see you on Saturday >:)

Okay, I rewatched ep 1 of Moon Knight and I have more stuff to share!!

This got long, so here, I'll save your dashboard for you...

First off, in the comics (which I have not read, but wikipedia knows all), the host, Marc Spector, has not one, but THREE alters: billionaire businessman Steven Grant, taxicab driver Jake Lockley, and suited consultant Mr. Knight. Obviously Steven has been changed to a giftshop worker, but we also know from that wiki page that Steven "assumes the alias of Mr. Knight on being trained by the Spector identity, who assumes the role of Moon Knight." So looks like they're combining Steven and Mr. Knight into one, but that still leaves one alter unaccounted for.....

Aside from all the fun they have with reflections and stuff like that, there were a few things that caught my attention the second time through.

Was no one going to tell me about Baby Cavenpus or did I have to find out about it myself?

This image is KILLING ME. Not only does he look so fucking stupid, but the actual implications behind this image are horrifying. And yes, I know it's a cartoon, but I can't stop thinking about it.

First of all, Cavenpus laid and egg (Escape). That's already terrifying on it's own. Cavenpus was created using, not only Cavendish's, but Perry's DNA as well. I am 99% certain Perry is a MALE platypus. Going off on a little tangent — Female platypi lose their ankle spurs at about a year old. Perry the Platypus still has his (Primal Perry) and he is at least five years old (Across the Second Dimension). This makes it impossible for Perry to be able to lay an egg. Yet Cavenpus D I D.

Excusing the majority of the whole biological part of that, this implies that something MATED with Cavenpus. My question is "Was it a human or another platypus?" Seeing how Baby Cavenpus is more human than their father, suggests that it was likely a human, which leads to the question "Who?"

Baby Cavenpus shows no resemblance to any other characters, apart from Cavendish himself, but it is not possible for him to be the (other) father to be him since Cavenpus was with Doof and Dakota the whole time. They only share this resemblances because Baby Cavenpus is the son of Cavendish's clone.

Okay, so, while doing a bit of research, I checked out the Wiki, and apparently Cavenpus is sexless, which raises even more questions. Did he just reproduce asexually? Is he like some freakin' plant?? How does that work??? I mean, some animals lay eggs before they're properly fermented, but Baby Cavenpus could not have hatched without that. And Cavenpus is a whole damn mammal, so how??????????

when would the zodiac signs' seasons take place in the thedosian calendar?

so bc the zodiac signs are based on constellations and all the lore etc that accompanies them i'm not even gonna touch that (YET.....yet...) but since spring, summer, autumn, and winter start on the first days of guardian, bloomingtide, august, and firstfall, respectively, so would those particular seasons of the zodiac

thedas-equivalent-of-aries season would just be 1-30 guardian, bc irl the beginning of aries season coincides with the beginning of spring and continues until the sun moves into taurus; all the cardinal signs (aries, cancer, libra, capricorn) begin on the first of the season like that, so we can assume that – IF there are 12 zodiac signs in thedas – the sun is in each sign for approximately a month. so that in 3 months the next cardinal sign can coincide w the beginning of that season

imo it makes sense that (if we're assuming thedas also has 12 signs and that their sun spends roughly equal time in all of them) four of them would coincide w the beginning of the seasons. so like yeah thedas is fake and for all we know they have 10 zodiac signs and they all start on wildly different days, but then everything is just shooting in the dark and where's the fun in that. obviously the changing of the seasons is important to them bc their holidays center around them, therefore i don't think it's wildly out of the blue to think that whatever star sign system they have going on would similarly coincide w the changing seasons

again i'm not currently bothering with picking constellations/symbols/stories/traits/etc for each sign so i'll just say first, second, third etc. point being the seasons of the zodiac would actually be like they are below, rather than how they are irl (aka the 20th-ish of each month to the 20th-ish of the next; it's like that irl bc our calendar is stupid and the beginning of the seasons randomly happens 2/3 of the way thru the month):

so IF we are to continue w that logic — and here's where i'm getting (even more) conjecture-y, but i feel p confident that since 4 of the 5 major holidays in thedas are based on the changing seasons aka thats important — then the traits of the thedas-equivalent of those signs would also have similarities to the irl cardinal signs (namely the traits listed above)

but there are also FIXED signs and MUTABLE signs: so called bc fixed signs are firmly planted in the middle of each season (taurus in spring, leo in summer, scorpio in autumn, aquarius in winter) and bc mutable signs precede the major change from one season to the next (gemini from spring to summer, virgo from summer to autumn, sagittarius from autumn to winter, pisces from winter-to-spring)

and again bc these are based on the seasons, it also makes sense to me that, generally speaking, the signs in the middle and at the end of the seasons would also be distinct in some way. and probably have similarities to irl fixed and mutable signs, tho i'm not as obstinate about that as i am abt the cardinal signs. but anyway MOVING ON

the thedosian constellation map (the canon one) is different than the fan-made sky map, but because i highly doubt anyone at bioware could’ve predicted someone would be As Insane As I Am Being Right Now about it, i don’t think they probably put a lot of thought into making it lmao. the fan made sky map DID have thought put into it tho, and it actually features the constellations we see in-game, so i’m going w that one ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

AND. i’m gonna look at the names of the months (both the fancy ancient tevinter names and the ~low/common~ names) in comparison w the constellations we have at our disposal bc why the fuck wouldn’t they be related in some way. this has no basis in any deeper logic than “maybe the fact that the ‘common’ name for this month is drakonis has somethinng to do with the constellation draconis idfk” but like. it’s literally the same name but with one letter (that makes the same sound) changed. i don’t think i’m asking too much here lmao

signs that start the seasons

wintersend is canonically associated with the old god urthemiel; the codex entry for the constellation bellitanus states it (is believed that it) was originally associated with urthemiel. using the same reasoning as with satinalis/satinalia, i’m gonna assume that bellitanus-as-a-zodiac-season would start with wintersend and last through the whole of guardian

summerday was once called andoralis, dedicated to the old god andoral; the codex entry for the constellation servani states it is thought to be representative of andoral, but where the wiki says andoral is the god of unity, the codex says andoral was the god of slaves. (doesn’t clarify if andoral is like, a figure to which the enslaved would turn to in their plight, as like a savior? or whether andoral is...just associated with slaves in some way.) i have no idea what the fuck to do w that except assume bioware is back on their bullshit! i’m gonna come back to this later

all soul’s day was once funalis, dedicated to dumat, old god of silence; the codex entry for the constellation silentir (which literally means ‘silence’ lmao) is usually said to represent dumat. so by this logic we might say the zodiac season for silentir begins with all soul’s day and ends with the last day of august

the constellation satinalis is canonically associated with satinalia, so it makes sense to me that if satinalis is part of the zodiac, its season would start with satinalia / last through the month in which the holiday takes place. aka firstfall

with these in mind, we have (tentatively) 3 of our 4 cardinal signs aka the signs that begin the seasons: bellitanus for spring, silentir for autumn, and satinalis for winter

looking at the fan-made sky map, these aren’t super evenly spaced apart (but then again neither are irl constellations perfectly proportioned so whatever!) HOWEVER. they do still, at least vaguely 😭, follow a clockwise pattern in the correct order of guardian/spring → summerday/bloomingtide → all soul’s day/august → satinalia/firstfall. it’s about the small victories ok *inquisitor ameridan voice* take moments of happiness where you find them or whatever

i’m inclined to pair this one up with cloudreach both bc the ancient tevinter name is “eluviesta” and bc the woman in the story is literally. in the clouds. simple enough

PERAQUIALUS: it’s a boat! but apparently a “primitive vessel” sailed by ancient peoples like the neromenians. according to the codex the translation is usually ‘across the sea’ rather than ‘boat’ but that doesnt rly help me lol

I'm assuming you chose this alien for Chase because it has super speed (like Chase in Mighty Pups). I also find it a little funny that Chase is the "hunting cat" instead of Wildcat (it's a hunting cat according to the Wiki, anyway).

Marshall : Cascan 

It deals with water. Makes sense for Marshall, even though it makes me think about what Zuma's going to be, lol (but I presume there's more than one water species of alien). It always bothered me a little in Mighty Pups that they gave Marshall fire powers when his job is to put out fires, but I understand why they did that (if Marshall got water powers, then I wouldn't know what Zuma's powers were going to be, either). 

Skye: Pturbosaurian

These look really cool, lol. I like seeing all the different species. Obviously you chose this alien for Skye because it flies, lol. 

Rubble: Talpaedan

Well, they even look like Rubble, lol. And they have the same abilities as Rubble, though they're way more powerful. It was a pretty obvious choice, lol. 

Rocky: Galvanic Mechamorph

They look really cool. And a species that's a mixture between plant and animal sounds right for Rocky. And they have technical possession, which sounds right for Rocky too. They can turn their hands into weapons or tools just reminded me of Rocky using tools as 'hands' a lot (like playing a guitar with tools, for example).

Zuma: Piscciss Volann

A fish species sounds pretty cool, and definitely fits Zuma. I find it interesting that they could be defeated by an evolved form of Everest, lol. 

Everest: Necrofriggian

They look really cool, and apparently they appeared in the reboot too (do you like the reboot? I've heard that it's bad, but I've never seen it). They lay eggs once every 80 years? I wonder how long they live for, and if all the eggs survive. Even sea turtles have to lay thousands of eggs every year, because so many of them are eaten by seagulls and the like. They can also form ice with their breath, which is Everest's Mighty Pups power, lol. They can fly, which reminds me of that one episode where Everest was in Air Pups. 

Tracker: Methanosian

A plant species makes sense for Tracker too. They can breath and generate fire? That's really cool. They can generate vine-like tentacles from their back, which reminded me of Tracker's cables. 

Rex: Kaosseffexx Ultimasauria

They look cool. And they're based off of dinosaurs, which obviously fits with Tracker. 

Wildcat: Kineceleran

Their feet have wheels on them and they appear to wear helmets. I know I keep saying this, but it's obvious that if fits with Wildcat, lol. They remind me of humanoid cheetahs, though they're way more powerful.

Liberty: Thep Khufan

They're mummy-like creatures. I'm not sure how that fits with Liberty, but it's interesting. They can slip through small spaces or tight openings. I'm presuming that that's why you picked this species for Liberty? She would be pretty hard to find a species for, especially since her job is crowd control (which Chase already covers, lol). 

Overall, it was interesting to learn about the different species. It reminded me of Skylanders (if you've heard of that) or Pokémon, even though the species were more diverse. I just read through the Ben Ten Wiki for each species, so I don't know how they interact with each other or anything like that (if they do at all). You obviously put a lot of work into this, especially with how many species there are.

1. Panuncians are dupilcators. Not speedsters. 2. Mechamorphs are pure technology. Not planimals

3. The reboot is not bad.

4. You wrote Tracker when you meant Rex

DuckTales 2017 - “The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee!”

Dangerous!

We begin this adventure in a dark and stormy night, caused by a villain who calls himself Dr. Atmozfear. GizmoDuck shows up and attempts a one-liner about how he's going to rain on his parade. It's made quite clear this was not his best line, even Dr. Atmozfear points out that he must not really be trying, but Gizmo has an excuse: not only has he spent better one-liners against two other weather-based villains, he is so overworked as a superhero that he couldn't re-up his puns.

Showing that off even more, he gets a phone call right in the middle of this encounter, showing that he's so busy, even explanations about how he's so busy gets interrupted. The villain even says almost exactly that; his other part of his villainy is explaining the joke. He eventually punches him out, and uses the exact same one-liner he used slightly more confidently, much to Dr. Atmozfear's derision. Pointing out your jokes aren't funny isn't usually a good idea, but it does work for the rest of the plot.

After taking care of that umpteenth villain, we see Huey and Webby waiting for Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera to show up. Webby still doesn't know who GizmoDuck's secret identity is, but Huey does, and he desperately tries to keep the secret as Fenton walks out of an alley coincidentally after GizmoDuck crashes into that alleyway and disturbs a cat. Webby connects the dots immediately, and asks Fenton if his GizmoDuck suit has a toilet in it.

Thankfully, he never answers that question, but he does have to add Webby to the growing list of people who know his secret identity. He decides to walk into an electronics store to find a birefringent beam splitter, only to be blasted.

No, not by a ray gun, but by a bunch of TVs. This electronics store decided to have every news channel play at the same time. Yes, I know, it's to show that every news station in Duckberg is talking about that amazing superhero. Well, one of these news reports ends up being very apparent to me, and it's easy to see why.

Tom Kenny: So once again, the day is saved, thanks to Gizmoduck!

I was so glad I wasn't drinking coffee here, because I would have spit it out, got it all over my keyboard, and had yet another excuse to delay a review. It's been so long since I've heard anything like that in a current show, and I didn't expect to hear it here, of all places. Fenton asks around for those birefringent beam splitters, and someone helps him out.

This lady knows what that is, and throws it to him. Fenton just can't believe someone else would know what a birefringent beam splitter is, with the implication that he can't believe that it would be her in particular. She doesn't exactly call him out on it, but she does say that working with hard physics can be hard for a rookie.

Fenton defends himself, saying that he's actually scientist for McDuck Enterprises. Not impressed, she talks about how he's into "sellout science", and that she doesn't kiss up to zillionaires and play by any rules. Eventually, he claims that he's working on a dangerous project for himself, playing himself as if he had a dangerous personality, and, with both curiosity and extreme doubt, she wants to see his lab. Fenton just goes along with it, acting like he's the great inventor for Scrooge McDuck.

While this conversation is happening, a different kind of dot-connecting happens with Huey and Webby. Webby is confused about all of this, but the great student of the Junior Woodchuck Guidebook knows this has to be the romantic courting of adults. This one doesn’t have any separate B-plot, but it’s as close as we get here.

It doesn’t help their interpretation that this lady just took his phone and put her phone number in it, with her name, revealing her as this reboot's version of Gandra Dee. From what I can remember, and from what I could see from reading wikis, this is a very different character than the one from the original outside of the "love interest to Fenton Crackshell" part. So yeah, she bought it.

After the "animated character who only wears one outfit deciding between two identical suits" joke, Huey and Webby respond that he should dress to impress his new date. Fenton denies it, saying this is just a melding of the minds. Sure, it would eventually blossom into a relationship that will last as long as they live, but it's not a date!

M'Ma Cabrera shows up, and ends up giving him dating tips and a nice suit to wear for the date that used to be his father's. Also, if she breaks his heart, she promises to come and dismantle her life. She won't fulfill that promise...yet.

Turns out, it's not just Huey and Webby that's assuming this is a date and not the "melding of the minds" Fenton claims it is, as even Launchpad congratulates him on it. For the first time since Season 1, we see Launchpad being able to park his car after recklessly driving. After wrecking his car for the last few episodes we saw him driving it, it's good to see that gag come back.

Gandra Dee: Nice upgrade, Suit. Yeah, you’re definitely the bad boy of science.

Oh, please don’t remind me of that one episode of the other show. He still tries to play this off as a non-date, and doesn't help anything that the latest hit song that's playing on the radio is "It's A Date (Don't Let Him Fool You)". At least he's comforted, knowing that his "interns” are preparing "his" lab.

...and they prepared an Italian restaurant instead, much to Fenton's disapproval, as this was supposed to be "his" lab that he is totally not just an intern for. As for what happened to the actual inventor for McDuck Enterprises:

Gyro: (locked behind a door, banging) You will rue the day!

Webby shows up as the waiter, telling them about the special of the day: spaghetti! She then begs them to choose that, as that's all they made. Of course, they just want to recreate that scene from Lady and the Tramp. Gandra Dee doesn't have any interest in that spaghetti, and she has to walk away to answer a phone call.

They reveal pretty much right at this moment that Gandra is actually working for...oh, boy, Mark Beaks. I get his gimmick, but he was never a villain I felt joy in seeing. Not helping anything is that he's played as this stalker, constantly giving her phone calls.

She already said she works for herself, but could this just be a cover-up for her being a spy? Not helping anything is that, right before the commercial break, Gyro gets out of that door, and, out of pure instinct, she knocks out Gyro with an electric shock from her hands. How she does that will be explained later.

Beak is also drinking this blue stuff, which he will drink in almost every scene until they reveal what exactly it is. Chances are, considering he's drinking it out of glass vials, it's not Gatorade.

As an aside to all of that Italian restaurant stuff, Fenton gets to show off some of his inventions. There's no implication that at least some of these are actually Gyro's, so at least he seems honest about this. This includes a spray that makes anything taste like glazed donuts, and a solvent that melts anything but the hardest diamonds. Surprisingly, the latter doesn't really do that much in this episode. As for the former, she does ask this question:

Gandra: What if the person doesn't like glazed donuts?

Fenton: What kind of monster doesn’t like glazed donuts?

I can smell the callback from here! She shows off a few inventions of her own, telling him to look in her eyes and hold her hand on two separate occasions. Anyone can guess where that ends up with the "Huey and Webby's perfect date" plot. These actually turn out to be eye cameras and nanobot-powered way for her to use her body's electricity to shock people. Yeah, really showing you're not evil there.

Speaking of which, she then talks about how she's not like those pencil-pushers that talk...and then asks if there's a certain other word for talking. We then cut to Mark Beaks listening closely to this conversation. His patience runs out that getting only one of the words he needs, he decides to do a Plan B: infiltrate the lab himself.

The McDuck Manor’s security may not be as high as it was during the 87 Cent Incident, but he still has robot seagulls that shoot any intruder in sight with lasers.

Mark Beaks is this amazing laser dodger now, dancing around them to the tune of that "It's A Date" song from earlier. One thing that does fit him is that he takes out his phone and hacks into the seagulls.

In the middle of all of that, he dabs, because of course he does. Yes, this screenshot really needed to be by itself, and it also speaks for itself. Oh, that Beaks. Oh, and this line shows up, too, as soon as he gets into a vent.

Mark Beaks: (music stopping) What, no signal? Boo!

The importance of having a local music library instead of relying on streaming, a lesson brought to you by Disney.

Cutting back to the lab again, Fenton decides to show off his ultimate invention: a paddleball! We get the real Chekov's Gun for the episode here: the ball from the paddleball is made out of Fentonium, a frictionless material that actually gets faster every time it gets hit. It creates energy, it's named after him, and most importantly, it's dangerous. That's the word of the day for this episode.

They get back to that restaurant. Unfortunately, the spaghetti they rigged to force that kiss has come untied. Huey shows up to start singing as a distraction, while Webby tries to re-tie that spaghetti. Before she could, she notices a phone buzzing, with a message and a ton of voicemails from Mark Beaks, in the date's pocket. Any plans for potential romance are stopped here, needless to say.

After listening to those voicemails, no plot holes here, Webby reveals to Huey about the big plan: Gandra was sent to get her to record Fenton’s voice saying something that can be altered into “Blathering Blatherskite.” Huey gets Fenton, and while he can't believe he finally found someone who sees him as more than just Gizmoduck's not-so-secret identitty, he is none too happy to hear the bad news.

He's not even that mad about how she's a spy, though that certainly doesn't help, but that she ended up being yet another person that only sees him as the guy that turns into GizmoDuck. He eventually just outright says "blathering blatherskite", possibly by accident, possibly intentionally, I'm not sure which, and asks if this is what she wanted.

It turns out to be something someone else wanted. Mark Beaks shows up, and because Fenton just said the words, he doesn't even have to edit any recordings together when he just has that! That codeword activates the machinery in his body, including the nanites he's been drinking and stolen Gizmo tech, and even just one of them could give him strength beyond strength. He drank a bunch of those.

Yeah, that Mark Beaks, he sure knows the internet, whether it be desperately trying to be a memelord, or pandering to D...okay, fine, that joke is way too easy here. Also, insert a joke about a certain Metal Gear Rising villain here.

After Mega-Beaks shows off his massive pecs, GizmoDuck is left with no choice but to fight him. GizmoDuck mostly fights using the usual slapstick, using giant hammers, pies, and even an airhorn that doesn't make that infamous sound effect. Mega-Beaks, on the other hand, uses as much brute strength as TV-Y7-not-FV can allow. I guess since he's in a robot suit, they can get away with it.

One would expect after all of that stalker behavior from, Gandra would go up to that wannabe Adonis and give him the shock treatment, and when Webby uses her old fashioned camera’s flash to distract him long enough to give Gizmo the upper hand...

Gandra: I'm sorry, Suit.

That's not what really happens.

Half of this episode is just wondering if Gandra Dee is going to do a full-on mole reveal. She made her motives clear already: she'll do anything for science, but she doesn't work for anybody. She tries to pass this off, but Fenton, growing a spine, finally calls her out for being a crook. She leaves, her intentions never really becoming clear.

Mega-Beaks goes all King Kong with the kids, hanging off of his own building. He even says himself that this is all because he wants the attention.

This is where I'll just say watch the episode for the rest, as I already summarized enough. I will say it's not entirely predictable, but anyone could guess that Mega-Beaks will eventually lose his muscle.

Another thing anyone could guess is that Gandra eventually turns on Beaks...but her reasoning isn't entirely out of a desire to be good. Gandra Dee herself is an interesting character, and it could pay off in future episodes.

How does it stack up?

I liked this one. Not as much of a high Happy as the last episode, but a Happy nonetheless.

The next one is pretty big.

Hello!!! Im so sorry for replying so late, I've been feeling odd-is (?). Things irl seemed to pile up out of nowhere and I had a shitton of tasks to finish that appeared out of nowhere lmfao. I also spoil a bit here bc yes so if anyone read this, it has spoilers :p

ANYWAY, Nanami's was so bittersweet imo. It does fit him, it was very peaceful at least (or as peaceful death can be ig), and im glad he healed his inner child by not cursing Yuuji with his death. I like that their deaths have impact ono the story and development of the characters instead of just shock value or just bc people have to die, ya know?? I've been getting so much get/stsg art on my dash and it hurts my feelings :,) The urge to tag you in every stsg post I come across bc it reminds me of you <3 I think your blog kinda introduced me to the ship?? I don't usually ship characters but I think they're really neat still!

I was Nanami biased at first and then I kinda just push away his death and then I remember bc off I do and I also feel bad bc I forget. To be fair, I don't know if I forget as a coping mechanism or if im actually drifting away from my initial obsession lmfao

YES I TOTALLY GET YOU. I don't like the fact that Eren dies but Levi lives. ANNOYING MC. all my friends hate Tokyo revengers, specially the animation, I swear. They rage. Still, I don't know much about Tokyorev except that the op is fucking amazing and I love it. I Also like the art style of the manga though I haven't read it; I've seen a few panels tho.

I think with aot openings they keep getting better and better as well. The one that sounds like and European anthem makes me happy and the Shinzo wo sasageyo nostalgia. nanami's death ripped my heart. no lie. his death might even be the saddest. the man just wanted to live a peaceful life, y'know? i also got to thinking the other day and i think an underrated/sad death was mimiko and nanako's. they died while trying to revive the person they called their father basically, and one o fthem had to watch her twin die brutally. sukuna's rampage was wild but come on, this was probably one of the top 3 brutal shit he did. killing two teen girls without hesitation

finally my satosugu propaganda is succeeding. i myself am not a shipper, but i have come to terms with my interest in satosugu (and some more). i used to think it was cringy (shipping) but my friend said who's gonna say anything and i was like holy shit yeah!!!! as long as you don't go around harassing people, it's good. tho with stsg, it seems that non shippers harass shippers more lol

gojo is MASSIVE. he's already 6'3. i just want to know geto's and toji's canonic heights, the ones we know are all fanon

i think levi would agree. he cared about eren so much and to watch him die like that, kinda similar to how erwin died, must have traumatized him a lot. to even say "we have to kill eren" is so fucking saddening. same with sasha's death. both hanji and levi looked awful, they were basically parent figures to them. and don't even get me started on hanji.... she's my favorite character always, for eternity. huh. maybe i just really like semi serious/childish entp's.

ALSO fujimoto's art style is too good, he also drew nobara. it should come up when you write his name and nobara lol

aah you would love fujimoto's one shot look back! it's not too long but the art style is incredible as always and the story is too fucking beautiful. i think it won the harvey award this year?? it was either that or csm (i checked it it was csm) but still, you should check it out! you would love csm too, it's my favorite manga of all time. i'll try to check god's lie too, heard pretty great things about it
