Blood center was a no-go today. Three people looked at & felt the veins in both arms, and the consensus was none of said veins could take a return today, which meant platelet donation wasn't possible. At least one would have been okay to draw from, so I could have done whole blood - except it hasn't been long enough since I last did that.

So I decided to go get my TDAP shot that I've been due for & putting off for like a year. It... remains my "glad I have it, but I fucking hate getting it" vaccine. My left arm is not happy, but at least this is not an annual shot, and now it's out of the way for another decade.

This was fun to write! I tried a different style this time, I hope you like it :)

Running through the trees, you brushed the branches out of the way and stumbled through the mud and dirt, almost tripping a few times. You knew that you couldn't stop, if you were caught again it wouldn't be good. You couldn't be caught again! You could hear the steps real close behind you and you had to jump and dodge out of the way of things.

It had been months since you were brought into this world, and truthfully, you had no idea what happened for you to end up here! You were just in your own world and then abruptly, you weren't.

You stop running, press your back against a tree, and pant to try to catch your breath. Your lungs were burning but you put your hands over your mouth, trying to calm your breathing. They were most likely close and you really didn't want to be caught.

When you heard them run by the place you were hiding in, you let out the breath that you didn't know you were holding. You turn your head back against the tree, shutting your eyes. God, how were you going to get yourself out of this place? At least they didn't see you.

At least, that's what you thought. You heard a soft thud and when you opened your eyes you saw Killer right in front of you, his knife stabbed into the tree beside your head and he grins, "Did you really think you could hide from us like that?" he asks, causing you to yelp trying to back away from him, but you couldn't move back any farther.

"Killer, knock it off," Dusty tells him, his arms crossed over his chest, "You know that if you hurt them Nightmare will have your skull. Let's just get them back, the longer we're out here the angrier he would be at us."

"Aww, come on, you have to admit the chase was fun!" Killer laughs, looking at you most likely. The empty black sockets make it a little hard to tell. Your heart was pounding so hard, the blood rushing through your ears made it hard to hear what they were saying.

Fuck.

They found you. They were going to take you back. Without thinking about exactly what to do, you lean forward fast, knocking your head against Killer's skull knocking him back far enough for you to move and you grab the knife, "Don't you guys come any closer! I'm not going back!" You hold up the knife, your eyes shooting between the two similar skeletons.

Killer rubs his skull, letting out a growl in annoyance while Dusty sighs shaking his head, "And that's why you get hurt, you focus too much on fun rather than what we're supposed to do." The two start to bicker. Should you try to use this time to get away? Before you could even move your legs to try to run, you felt something hard hit against your head and you fall down. "Axe!" You heard Killer's voice before you passed out.

When you woke up, you felt groggy and your head was pounding. Your eyes shoot around to look at the room that you were in, the same room that you've been in for the last few months. Damn it... you gulp and try to get up but you couldn't, and when you looked down, you saw chains wrapped around your legs "What in the world?" you mumble under your breath, then everything came back to you. How you were able to get out, how you were caught.

"No no nono" You panic, trying to get the chains off but then you heard the familiar voice, the one that filled you with fear, "Did you really think you could escape?" When you lifted your head you saw Nightmare standing there, his tentacles whipping around in his anger/annoyance. "Do you really think I'm that stupid?" His voice dripped with anger.

"I..." You start but stop, not sure how to respond. Instead, he just clicks his teeth and walks towards the door. "You'll be staying here until I decide you deserve to come out again. Try not to make this mistake again, Y/n," and with that, he walks out of the room, shutting the door behind him.

It was dark, the only light was from a flickering candle. You just lost your most likely last chance to get out of here alive...

"UUggghhhh! I'm so tired." You groaned loudly as you entered the inn. "Link, please tell me we can go to bed soon. If not I'm right into the trees for the night."

Link hummed and rubbed his face. He wasn't looking that much better than you even if he still managed to keep his perfect posture. He walked up to the reception, glad to have someone at the counter no matter how exhausted. He quietly asks for whatever room they have and gets the key.

As in singular.

You don't seem to notice ready to drop dead into the first bed you see.

Link doesn't mention anything either, guiding you away and into the room he rented for the night. You let him unlock the door and walk in. As predicted, you b-line for the bed, kick off your shoes and roll over- not even bothering to get under the blankets.

Link is shocked. You hadn't even said good night.

Lack of manner aside, he knew you were tired. The sight of you instantly collapsing at first sign of minimal comfort makes his heart ache. He's more methodical with his practice though. He takes off his armor and his layers before getting inoto the bed next to you.

He'll deal with the after math in the morning.

He's never been a deep sleeper but he finds that he quite likes the feeling of you in his arms throughout the night. You both curl into each other and take comfort. Despite the comfort and the amount of sleep he's received, Link wakes up first at the crack of dawn as he usually does.

It takes him a minute to remember where he is and what happen the night before. He looks down to you. You're clutching onto his shirt and breathing softly by his shoulder. Your legs are intertwined together but it's not bothersome.

Link wonders if he should move or not. You're more likely to wake up if he does. He sighs. He's been waking you up early to get the mission over with. And you've admitted to not being quite the early riser like he is. Complaining aside, you still followed him and tried to make it work as much as you could. And you were so tired yesterday-... He'll let you sleep in today. As a treat.

Link sighs, chancing a delicate kiss to your forehead. "...Good morning..."

You don't stir for a long time and Link find himself almost falling asleep again as he waits for you to wait up.

Hours pass and Link feels more guilty as they do so. He's really pushed you over these last few days if you needed this much time to recuperate. It's nearly noon when you finally bilnk your eyes open.

You startle awake and it shakes him in the process.

He opens one eye and looks down at you. "...I was enjoying myself you know.."

"You! What are you-?" You sit up a little. "I thought-"

"This was the last bed of the night." He says quietly. "You fell asleep first... I didn't mind. This is quite comfortable."

"I can't believe-!" You can absolutely can believe this. You push his chest away. "You could have warned me!"

"You were already sleeping." He replies. He sounds more tired than you do despite the fact that he's been up all this time and you were the one that just woke up. "And you looked quite comfortable."

You huff and begin to blush. Link smiles before he opens his arms for you to escape. "You're free to leave if you want to."

Your jaw drops, scandalized and outraged. "You little-!"

He smirks.

You bite your tongue and pout, almost glaring at him before you sink down and cuddle close to him again. "I don't want to get up yet. I'm not going to let you bully me out of the bed."

Link snorts and tucks you under his chin, wrapping his arms around you once more. "Whatever you say, darling."

Okay, now that everybody's had some time to process and gotten some of the doomposting out, here's my thoughts on the whole situation.

First of all, I'm not really worried about whether or not RWBY will continue in some capacity. It's uncertain, sure, but no more than it was already. In February we got the update that they were talking to potential partners about getting volume 10 made, so clearly they weren't just relying on Rooster Teeth and Warner Brothers for it - maybe one of those companies will pick it up, maybe a different company will, either way I'm sure it *will* be picked up by somebody and unless they get real unlucky, the show won't be much worse off than it was before - if anything it might be better off, considering that WB have been shitty about animation for quite a while now (if you're not already familiar and you're up for some extra research, I recommend looking into the Coyote vs ACME situation that's been going on recently for a great example of WB's bullshit). And while it's unclear exactly how much involvement the original crew will have in the show's future, I'm pretty optimistic about it. I doubt the writers are going to let go of creative control without a fight, if for nothing else then for Monty - I don't like focusing too much on the whole Monty's Legacy stuff in general, but I do think that the crew are going to want to keep their friend's work alive and authentic and as accurate to what he wanted it to be as possible. None of this is a certainty of course, but I think RWBY is gonna be fine, things will just be kinda rocky for a bit.

With all that being said, while this may end up ultimately being a blessing in disguise for RWBY as a franchise, it sure ain't one for everybody who worked at Rooster Teeth. This entire situation is still horrible - so many people being fired on the spot, effective immediately, with no warning and with several of them only finding out by seeing articles about it being posted on Twitter, it's fucked. I know Rooster Teeth wasn't exactly lacking in controversy and problematic behaviour, to put it lightly, but there were still plenty of amazing people there who are now in a really shitty situation. On top of that, while again this isn't exactly anything new, especially for WB, it is the latest instance of a huge problem in the animation and entertainment industries. So no matter how things pan out for RWBY, we should still be really fucking mad about this.

And we definitely shouldn't be celebrating. I've seen some posts saying "good riddance" and celebrating RT's downfall, not just from people who hate RWBY (I mean don't get me wrong I'm sure the hatedom is out in full force but that's not the kind of thing I'm referring to right now), but people who like/used to like the show and just hated the company. And don't get me wrong, I didn't like a lot of things about the company either, I've actually been wanting RWBY to separate itself from RT for a pretty long time (be careful what you wish for I guess 💀), but there's a time and a place and this certainly ain't it. Plenty of people who have worked there have said that they loved their jobs, plenty of others said it was horrible and toxic and nightmarish, but either way a job is a job and in this industry work isn't always easy to find, especially in recent years. Celebrate in private if you want, but now is not the damn time to be bringing out the cake and confetti.

TLDR; I'm cautiously optimistic about RWBY's future, I'm pretty sure it'll be fine and they'll be able to keep the core crew to at least some extent, but this is still a really bad situation for everybody who just lost their jobs, don't be a dick.

to me, their romance was always a puppy love born out of a combination of social pressures, naïve curiosity, and a lack of true understanding regarding intimacy and romantic love and what it really is. it was real in that they do truly, deeply care about each other and they are close friends, maybe even shared an attraction, but a maturing romance is so much more than that. they've grown up and out of being boyfriend/girlfriend, and that's okay! i think television/film needs to show more often that most of us don't have definite "soulmates" or first childhood loves that we spend our whole lives with. it doesn't mean these relationships meant nothing and didn't impact us, it just means they've run their course and that something else is in the cards, and this is part of life!

i've always felt el was at her best and most confident self when broken up with mike, discovering who she was and what she liked alongside another girl her age instead of just relying on mike for mentorship on how to live in the real world. she deserves more of an opportunity to find herself, her autonomy, and her independence, and to love who she is, and she's made it clear she's felt insecure in the relationship with mike because she isn't being loved and understood the way she wants, needs, and deserves from someone who is her partner.

also, it's okay if mike doesn't love her in "the way he should". he is not obligated to love her romantically and stay in a relationship with her just because she's a girl, because she "needed someone", or because he cares about her a lot. he shouldn't be pressured into a romance if it's not truly coming from his heart. he deserves freedom to find out and honour who he is, too, instead of just staying in his non-functional first relationship — one he got into as a child, essentially — and defining himself that way because it's what's expected when a boy and a girl are close. he loves her in some way, yes, but it's okay if he doesn't feel comfortable or secure being her boyfriend anymore, for whatever reason that is. he's felt insecure too, and that's valid and it matters.

they are their own people and are steadily growing and changing every day. they need time to figure out who those people are, and it's become clear (at least in my opinion) that those people aren't meant to be a couple at this stage.

they deserve freedom. they deserve to grow up and be authentic to themselves and not feel like they need to lie for the sake of a relationship. they deserve to move on from this version of their relationship that isn't making them happy and rekindle the best part of their bond: their strong, beautiful friendship. they don't have to be a couple if it doesn't make them stronger and better and happier people.

i think it would be healthy and wonderful for a show, especially one consumed frequently by young adults, to show a relationship starting, progressing, and ending on good terms in this way. sometimes things don't work out, and that is okay.

I created a group chat, threw the characters in, and watched the comedy chaos unfold. I had too much fun with this. The in-character accuracy is what makes it so much funnier XD

Somewhere fandom culture lost the plot. Some parts of our fandom have forgotten the word "fanon" and instead started labelling all their (shared) HCs as canon.

Don't get me wrong. I also have my own interpretations. But I do think it's important to be able to distinguish what is a headcanon (i.e. your personal interpretation), what is fanon (i.e.: a significant portion of the fandom accepts that headcanon), and what is canon (i.e. what is in the game and the (sub)context).

I applaud all the creativity and interpretations of characters, but please be for real that most very popular fanons aren't supported by lore/canon/in-game mechanics/facts.

Like: you can reset Shadowheart's class and make her a bard, but her canon class is a cleric. Even if everyone makes her a bard tomorrow, that would still not make her a canon-bard.

That's what's been going on lately when I look at discourse around Durge, Durgetash, Astarion (especially ascended Astarion), or Gortash, to just name a few.

But then people scream really loudly about their interpretation being the only correct one. And worse, they start harassing other fans over it. Start looking down at parts of fandom who don't share that fanon.

I tend to get lost in my own HCs too, sure. But it's valuable to take a seat every now and then, set all the fanart and fanfics aside, and (re)play the game, the entire thing that is, and bask in the context and canon. It's humbling, I can tell you that from personal experience.

Own your headcanon, thrive in your fanon, but be respectful enough to recognize it as such.
