I’m relatively new to the fandom and have really enjoyed a lot of your posts… I have a question that I couldn’t quickly find an answer to in searching through your tags…

What’s the deal with streaming? Like, I listen to BTS. I enjoy them a lot, I listen to a pretty even mix of all their albums though I probably like MOTS:7 era the best). Some days I listen to them like all day lol (if I’m cleaning the house or something) and I listen to them a lot in the car or while working. I’ve enjoyed some solo releases more than others so I naturally streamed those more. but like the more I start following accounts on here and on army twt the more confused I get about the intense pressure to stream constantly? I’ve heard that people play certain songs (or albums I guess?) on repeat on mute and/or have dedicated streaming devices they keep going all the time.

Not to be negative or rude at all but like…what? Maybe because I’m new to KPop and have never followed it until BTS but that just sounds so weird and… idk the word, maybe disingenuous? Again I do not mean this as an attack I am just genuinely confused. Wouldn’t BTS themselves want us only to listen if we were actually enjoying it and not out of some competitive attempt to get better ratings? It feels so odd to me, like that is not how I would behave with any other artist that I love. I would only ever listen to them out of a genuine desire to hear their music. But there seems to be so much weird shaming out there for when/if songs are not streamed heavily enough? And for any other artist I would just write that off as a difference in taste among the fandom, but here it’s treated like a personal wrong against the artist…?

But as I say that I’m sure there’s more to it… I have definitely seen people talking about payola or chart manipulation so idk. If I should google this instead, just tell me to, I just have already tried and didn’t find that much clarity, just a bunch of people on quora and Reddit talking about certain songs not getting streamed enough.

Okay wait I’m the anon that just asked about streaming and I went and re-read your post about “inorganic success” — I had read it before but somehow I didn’t put together that the 24-7 streaming is an attempt to combat payola or like go up against it I guess. Okay. That makes more sense. I still feel like there’s a weird focus on charting but I guess if it’s about getting more concert venues and more radio play it makes sense.

You haven’t at all asked a stupid question. Your confusion is easily explained by you being new to k-pop, and everyone new to this madhouse asks this question eventually. I’ve talked about this before, but can’t find the post for the life of me so I’ll briefly go over it again.

First, you need to understand what k-pop is. K-pop is a system that gamifies music consumption. Competition is something you’ll see in the music industry regardless. Western stans such as Arianators, Barbz, and the Beyhive have organized around streaming goals and efforts for at least 10 years now. But there’s no other music industry that explicitly emphasizes competition among groups and fans, the way the k-pop industry does.

Competition is baked into its DNA:

From the idol training system under agencies with supposed specialities that are treated like warring houses a la Game of Thrones (a mentality created by the Big 3),

to the music shows where fans are encouraged to vote daily and weekly for the best artists and where wins are tied to streaming numbers,

to the highly publicized year-end award show criteria that outline key metrics for wins in streams, sales, and fan votes.

Basically, the k-pop industry creates a clear hierarchy of talent and acclaim for artists in their system, directly stokes fan participation in buying into that hierarchy, and the numbers are the easiest litmus test/short cut to settle the question of who is at the top.

And all of this is served with a cocktail of parasocial delusion and entitlement that has (more easily manipulated) fans thinking their perceived investment into their faves, earns them the right to micromanage their fave idols’ careers. All of this benefits the labels and industry because they’d rather have you more engaged (even if toxically), than not.

Everybody here buys into this system despite what they’ll tell you, some just manage to keep their wits and perspective to prevent getting sucked in, while others fall headfirst into it.

And so, like I said in my ‘inorganic success’ post you referenced, the focus on streaming is part of fans really just playing the game. Excess is something you’ll see on the charts in any case, whether in k-pop or in the West.

The difference with BTS and ARMYs however, is in the why of how the fandom streams. Essentially, you’re more likely to find people just as passionate about the music itself as they are about giving that music its due in hard numbers and consequently, recognition. You’re more likely to find fans like this in the ARMY fandom, than any other, in my opinion. Some people forget that the og ARMYs were k-pop fans first. They were fans who intimately understood how this system worked, they understood why the Big3 maintained dominance in k-pop for literal decades, and they saw the worth in the music BTS made, loved it enough to invest time into the playing the game better than anyone else at the time - pushing BTS from nugu status to where they are now, competing well outside the realm of the k-pop system but in a space that remains complex and highly competitive.

Another aspect that differentiates how ARMYs stream vs other k-pop fandoms, is that due to the sheer size of the fandom in absolute numbers, the average ARMY typically streams less than a typical k-pop stan. Basically, in other fandoms the typical stan has to stream more per person to have even a fraction of the gains seen in the ARMY fandom. ARMYs also aren’t doing anything other fandoms aren’t doing, it’s just that so far, they’re more efficient at it and don’t have to worry too much because BTS makes music that keeps attracting more fans, adding to the size of the fandom. They’ve also generally stayed away from more illegal methods given the intense scrutiny and animosity the fandom has faced for being part of the reason BTS upended the ordained hierarchy in this space. It sounds silly but it’s true.

But that’s only one side of the story. The other side is that in the fandom, everybody here really just does what they want. And many people genuinely enjoy listening to BTS that much and that intensely. Going by personal experience in what I observed before I became ARMY, I noticed that many ARMYs are Type A and organized - people who like and study data. The first time in my life that I saw someone create a spreadsheet for fan theories on a k-pop MV, was when an ARMY made one for I NEED U MV. I’m not sure what it is about BTS, but from the beginning they’ve attracted the sort of fans who genuinely enjoy listening to music often, people who enjoy creating and playing around with playlists, and people who track and measure applicable data. So your assumption that the people who stream like this are people who don’t actually enjoy the music, is wrong. In my opinion. For a lot of ARMYs, streaming and appreciating the music isn’t mutually exclusive.

Personally, I listen to music a lot. And I’ve always been that way, so when I became ARMY, I just sort of naturally fit into that culture. The sort of music BTS makes is a joy to listen to, I play their stuff literally everyday and it feels like the most normal thing in the world for me to sleep to Serendipity sometimes (in my sleep playlist which includes brown noise and rain sounds), or to do laundry to Let Me Know playing, or to drive to UGH and Set Me Free Pt 2 playing. I have multiple accounts because I listen to all kinds of music all the time, and it’s just convenient for me to have things set up such that I can flip on a playlist in every situation I’d want one on.

But like I said, the reality is that everyone in this fandom does what they want. It’s true there are certain people in the fandom who obsess over streaming, these are typically chartmys and akgaes, but most other people stream however they like. Fandom in general is a pressure cooker environment so I don’t blame you for noticing that pressure, but at the end of the day you really should just do what makes the most sense to you.

ARMYs generally recognize the reality of the space they are in, they recognize what it means for BTS, and most simply tweak their normal listening habits to maximize the gain and support to BTS. Plus sometimes it’s fun to play into fandom’s initiatives as a way to connect with other fans (such as in streaming parties).

I'm new to stolitz and HB and your takes/ your essay was a breath of fresh air. Maybe it's because I'm new here in the HB fandom, but I've seen more people talking shit about Stolas/"Stolas fans" than actual "toxic" Stolas fans? And don't get me started on those horrible ass takes calling Stolas a sexual assaulter/abuser or comparing Stolitz to Angel and Valentino, likening Stolas to Valentino.

It bothers the heck out of me but at the end of the day, with more exposure to that noise I can navigate how to tune it out and they can stay bitter and talk shit about everything they watch while we wait for "Full Moon"

Welcome Nonnie! Thank you so much! I’ve really missed doing things like this. It’s been awhile since I interacted this heavily with a fandom as nothing has really caught my brain this intensely for a long time so it’s nice to discover likeminded people in it. I’m new too! We can be new together.

It’s funny, I didn’t even know about HB until after I watched Hazbin, I had seen literally zero things about it, and while I had heard of Hazbin over the years and had seen Alastor I didn’t know what it was, I thought it was one of those popular dating sims, or like a new tumblr sexy man thing I hadn’t heard about which is hilarious to me now. A bunch of my IRL friends were talking about Hazbin a lot though and I love musical theater and have been on a personal art journey for a while (it started as getting better at art for video games, I’m a software engineer, but turned into me making a comic somehow because I’m a lifelong writer too) and the art style intrigued me so I decided to check it out. I loved it a lot, but like a normal amount. When I came on here people were talking about Helluva Boss so I’m like “ooh, more content” so we watched that and my brain saw Stolas and Stolitz and started the sirens. Like literally a “Oh no I love him” moment in LooLoo Land.

There are just characters and ships that hit just right. Imagine my surprise when I went into fandom spaces and there were people with these crazy interpretations of them and of Stolas I couldn’t reconcile with what I’d just watched. Like at all. Well I was surprised, but I’ve been around a fandom or two so I wasn’t that surprised but in this instance it was especially strange to me. It didn’t jive AT ALL with the show I just watched. Honestly, that intrigued me as much as the ship did.

Especially the Stolas takes. I’m like “This guy? This complete dork who is trying to mirror what his crush wants so bad he might as well be made of silvered glass?” “Evil Sexual assaulter? The guy in the royal romper who sings to his daughter and gets excited over legal contracts and makes silly little owl noises? This is the guy who has some evil sexual coercion plot over the dude who threatened to fuck his employees 11 minutes into the show and can’t go ten minutes without saying cum?” It was REALLY confusing let me tell you. Like you have this really fucked up reality where murder is A-Okay and characters that say vile shit to each other as a matter of course and people are all up in arms about a transactional sexual relationship? It just seemed like one of the least problematic things some of these characters do lol and I felt like I was in a room where something important happened and I missed it.

I’m pretty good about taking in different views, because of my ND I try really hard to understand where people are coming from and kind of assume I missed something everyone else knew from being in the fandom for so long, that being new I didn’t know, but the more I looked into it the more it seemed tied to an interpretation of the character that wasn’t in what I had watched. I watched the VivziePop channel playlist which does not have the Pilot. When I found out about the original Pilot some quotes made a *little* more sense especially with the huge gaps in content releases, but I’m still fucking baffled a lot of the time tbh. Sometimes I feel like these people are watching an entirely different show based on that Pilot and our social media have crossed universes.

I’m used to this though, the last major characters to take over my brain were MXTX characters, Bakugou from MHA and Killian Jones before that so I am pretty used to people having character interpretations who can’t get past first impressions, and ignore like literally years of development. (More about the last two, the MXTX fandom is one of the best I’ve been in, everyone seems to be really happy with the canon content there all around, I can’t think of any hate I’ve ever seen about any character tbh, even the actual villains. Fan fiction game is on point too, so many good writers in that fandom).

I’m also used to people ascribing love of a fictional character to a real life moral failing. My view has always been that I enjoy more complex characters and stories that aren’t always squeaky clean because it’s fiction and it’s fucking boring if everyone in it are these perfect unflawed cardboard cutouts who always act the right way, never hurt other people, and never make mistakes or fuck up or miscommunicate. People approaching relationships from differing points of view, struggling with darkness and trauma, and reconciling their issues especially together or to BE together is the fucking BEST thing about fiction.

Fandoms are fucking bizarre is what I’ve ultimately landed on. And they don’t understand what toxic means. Or problematic. Like just plain do not understand those words.

We’ll be fine Nonnie! Let’s just keep flailing over things we love, crying over the angst train that is surely coming full speed at our faces (and will probably have to deal with for years because of the release schedule), and enjoy theorizing, speculating, analyzing and creating content with other like minded people! Yes! I always try to, though sometimes it might take me many months. I love to let people know that I appreciate the time they take in replying to my fics.

Fanfiction writing can be a pretty lonely endeavour. You're writing sommething that you hope is going to resonate with the fandom but until you put it out there, you can't know! So when I get comments, I want to respond in kind. For me, it helps with the feeling of a fandom community.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Priestly Duties - a Stucky fic where pre-serum Steve is a Catholic priest who gives into his desires for Bucky, but only once.

I didn't start it expecting it to turn out so angsty but the character kind of took it out of my hands!

Pretty much all of the others? I'm actually a big happy endings girlie. If I had to pick one though, I'd probably pick Aroma-nce So Sweet because the boys have no family feud to contend with.

Not often, but sadly, hate abounds despite out attempts to push it out of fandom spaces

Do you want to know a secret? When I first started out in the Bad Buddy fandom, I had no plans on writing any smut for PatPran.

Then, less than three months after posting my first fic, I stumbled across a tumblr prompt and after that, the floodgates well and truly opened.

Alright well. The chances anyone sees this are kinda low. Should be fine.

MECHS FANDOM PSA:

It is. In fact. Okay for people to not like Doc. Carmilla. Now before you get the pitchforks out let’s discuss some things. Because honestly I’m getting very very tired of seeing this back and forth and people who don’t like her being viewed as somehow uneducated.

So to it get out of the way, here’s some things this isn’t. A personal slight against Maki and their music. Saying no one CAN like her as a character and you’re wrong for enjoying her. An end all be all statement about what’s right and what’s wrong in this fandom.

What this is, is some very basic facts. To start off with. Doc. Carmilla (mechanisms), and everything Maki has done with her since. Are in fact. Pretty much two separate characters. To the point that the lore Maki has produced since is kind of kept under tight lock and key. They’ve stated it’s not canon to the Mechs universe even though it takes place in a nearly identical one. On top of the fact that if they were at all uncomfortable with what has been done with the character since, it is likely they would have spoken up themselves. I don’t really believe they, as a grown adult, need people out here defending their “lore” and their honor like that. So. Mentally, we need to stop conflating the two. Mechs Carmilla is different. End of story. When I say I dislike Carmilla (mechanisms) it has nothing to do with after the fact lore and solo career things Maki had done.

Secondly. The narrative behind calling the Mechanisms liars (Jonny specifically) when it comes to how they view and have told the story, or worse ungrateful and whiny, is vaguely problematic. Now, going forward we have to understand that nothing is explicitly stated. Ever. But we can make some logical inferences and when it comes down to the evidence very little of it is things the band has actually said to other people. As someone who’s abuser was an afab parental figure, it’s very strange and a little hurtful to watch someone show very clear signs of trauma and then get called a liar who just wants to smear someone. Whether intentionally or not, Maki and the Mechanisms painted an excellent and concerning portrait of a certain type of abuse that doesn’t exactly deserve to be ignored. Mechs lore is varied, often contradictory, and hard to find. So what you make of it is up to you of course, but I have compiled a small list of evidence that is worth looking at when it comes to things Maki themselves has contributed to.

In a recording from Jessica Law’s official YouTube titled “Dr. Carmilla and The Mechanisms: Homesick” (transcripts not included in this post to save space but I do have them if needed. The timestamp referenced is 3:42) Jonny interrupts the set and appears to have a mild to serious freak out about the repercussions of pushing the Doc out the airlock. (Which I might add he is fully aware he did not do) He starts out asking “Are you going to kill us or not.” Actively backs away from her. Starts stammering and tripping over his words and otherwise seems distressed and uncomfortable. He claims he wants to know “What you’re going to do to us.” As if he suspects this may be a psychological game. The doc responds she’s “feeling a bit touchy” and when Jonny refuses to drop it she can be heard saying “Medication time” before the recording ends.

In the album recording of the Ignominious Death of Dr. Pilchard, Brian pouts about not being believed and Jonny suggests “You sent him alone and unarmed into the docs lab.” To which Brian sighs and simply says “point taken” as if these are common precautions they themselves must take.

In the official Mechs fandom wiki, on her own page, it’s referenced that though Jonny didn’t push her out the airlock, there were many failed attempts at doing so before hand. That though she views them as her children both Jonny and Nastya are visibly physically afraid of her and seem uncomfortable when touched by her and that though the others feel less intensely it is only slightly. It’s also worth noting that even though it’s only speculation the same page suggests her relationship with Aurora is not entirely positive either.

From the official Mechs site pertaining to her death we have statements like “I do not think I killed Dr. Carmilla. No I am not always in complete control of Aurora. No I do not like Dr. Carmilla. I would prefer her to be in the vacuum. Not Aurora. I was inside Aurora’s veins when it happened. I will not tell you why. Aurora would be upset.” And “Fuck’s sake Ashes, does it matter which of us killed her? When she gets back she’s going to be pissed. I don’t know if she can kill us any more than we can, but I don’t intend to find out. You?”

Factoring in all of this, it is not at all unfair to assume that the relationship between at least Jonny and Nastya and the Doc is rocky at best, and downright concerning at worst. It’s also not unfair to assume people may want to (or subconsciously) include these things in their personal interpretation of the lore and that is *okay.* It’s okay. There’s recently been this development of a culture where liking characters that have done bad things is unacceptable and so we rush to defend them when. It’s just not true? This version of the Doc can exist while the version you like does at the same time.

Telling people who are enjoying the media in their own way that they’re wrong for disliking her can often interfere with people who are using the narrative to explore and cope with their own similar traumas, and becomes a bit concerning often times in the way that it’s worded. You can absolutely agree to disagree and just move on from it without going “Well um actually in Maki’s lore” or “Well Jonny is a liar” (suspiciously just. Victim denial? Not 100% because again there is no concrete truth to ANY of the narratives including the Doc’s. But it doesn’t sound great) or “Well that just wasn’t the intent.”

There are valid reasons to dislike her. In text reasons, personal reasons like trauma or being an introject in a system, or just. Hell. Getting bad vibes. That does not make her any less of an interesting and complex character. Relax a bit and stop saying people aren’t entitled to their feelings and opinions when the artists themselves can’t seem to give a singular fuck.

(Once again tumblr won’t let me answer asks on desktop so I’m doing some cheeky mobileblogging here, sorry for the additional wait time!)

1. Share your philosophy of smut. Why do you write it, and what does it mean to you?

Honestly I write smut because it is an amazing playing-field for interpersonal interaction and emotional turmoil. This is probably reflected in how many of my explicit fics have only one party actually getting to have an orgasm and/or focus on really gnarly stuff. (Not to say that sex with no orgasms/50% orgasms/etc. is inherently bad and nonconny! I honestly jut get kind of lost in the sauce with the POV character's awareness of their partner's climax.) I've probably talked about this before but there's conventions around sex that lend themselves toward a traditional beginning-middle-end format (foreplay -> now they're having sex -> orgasms for everybody, The End) and while that's obviously not what all sex is or all that sex could be, it's a fun backdrop for characters to go on their own emotional journeys. A scene of sexual intimacy can show basically anything, from the highest expression of loving tenderness to total contempt and disconnection and hostility, and I love that flexibility. Not to say I actually show all that stuff, I just think smut has as much versatility of form and content when considered as a category as fight scenes or, idk, musical numbers.

2. What was the first smut fic you ever read?

Probably something for The Lord Of The Rings where I do not in any way remember which pairing or if there were any kinks involved. I seem to remember a lot of questionable Middle-Earth lube use but that may be more in the historical afterlife of early film!LOTR fandom than in reality. (Peppermint essential oil as lube???? I think with Frodo and Sam???? I think if any member of the Fellowship of the Ring has the discernment to identify hole-safe lubes it’s got to be Sam the gardener.)

Romance: Seven’s ex. Still has his initials and doesn’t bother to cover it. And they are harboring a very blatant crush on Orion that if they’re being honest about started specifically because Orion seems pretty unattainable and they have no actual expectations of that fantasy becoming a reality (at least at first). Some cute stuff about them and seven tho: I hc fans called them Seven8 cuz Octavia means 8 or i guess Setavia works but Seven8 is so cute to me. And that seven had them in his phone as “8” and Octavia had him as “7 Ducky”

Some backstory:

Octavia is biracial her mom is white and her dad is black (specifically has afro indigenous roots but he was a foster kid so very estranged from these cultures) does not have a good relationship with their parents at all. Their parents didn’t really want kids? Sort of had Octavia because that’s what they were “supposed” to do next after getting married. Octavia is very much just an item checked off a list in a lot of ways regarding them. Very much the type of people who probably shouldn’t have had a kid not because they didn’t provide physically but they’re just emotionally nonexistent and incredibly dismissive lol. So yeah, so she had a very lonely childhood.

They did lots of ballet/contemporary dancing and soft ball which she does still actually enjoy as hobbies presently, but for the most part she’s obsessed with music and making music. They have a bat from highschool that they call “Lucky Lucy” where for two separate games in a row she hit nothing but home runs with it. Now, she takes it to every show and makes everybody touch Lucky Lucy before performing.

Octavia is obsessed with old hollywood glamour and old movies/shows from that era— most specifically Audrey Hempburn. They have several references/quotes from her tattooed on them: “never throw out anyone” is a partial quote from “People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed; never throw anyone out.” that they have tattooed directly under their S.D. tattoo which is my favorite lol and another is “i was born with an enormous need for affection, and a terrible need to give it.” probably on their opposite forearm from S.D. (There’s more but i gotta map them out.) They can do a transatlantic accent, and did so for many months as a teen to annoy their parents.

Lastly, romantic history: before Seven they had a girlfriend, Maria. Who was pretty much their polar opposite—very straight laced, serious, and structured but also incredibly sweet, polite, absolute wifey material—and honestly while she supported Octavia’s dream on a surface level she thought Octavia needed a more concrete plan for the future. They dated for about half of high school and split amicably when it became clear that Octavia wasn’t going to change/Octavia’s underlying feelings for Seven became a bit too obvious to ignore. They’re still in contact and friendly and Maria is married and has two kids.

Post Seven, Octavia had one serious relationship that was on and off for 8 months about a year after their initial split. It was bad. Incredibly toxic content warning type bad. Dean Clayton was the lead singer of another indie band Violet Vapors and was a general misogynistic piece of shit. It was a they just didn’t see the red flags until they were already in it type situation, bc no one advertises themself as a pos partner obvs. She doesn’t like to talk about it and borderline actively ignores it, but if they ever saw him again they’d probably take their bat to him tbh. Octavia is in a muuuuch better place now (comparatively speaking, which i mean the bar is in hell so do with that what ye will) still does drugs and drinks but it’s not nearly as bad as uhhh this era of their life.

Weirdly this song reminds me of Mystic Messenger, despite being a new fan and having been into this game until this year 2024 I already felt a connection, seeing old posts about this game from an old fan somehow makes me tear up. Honestly mystic messenger is such a beautiful game! It helped me (ironically???) when I was struggling so much. I remember when I wrote my first HC in here, honestly I’d never thought I’d end up meeting so many amazing people! It’s truly beautiful how a piece of media can unite everyone and have people create amazing works of art and writing and music and everything!

I’m so glad you found the game, even if it’s late! It’s a great story, with lovable characters that even though it’s been like…omg 8?! EIGHT YEARS?!?!? (Hold on time related crisis happening rn)

Mystic messenger and this blog, really helped me start writing! And while I got a huge writers block and am now on different fandoms, it’s still a wonderful game that I’m glad people are still enjoying and playing! I feel so lucky for those who get to experience that wild rollercoaster for the first time!

I remember the alarms, the laughter from Seven or Jumin’s messages, the tears from the heart wrenching parts of the story, the confusion as to why the MC didn’t have eyes and why they didn’t leave WHEN THERE WAS A BOMB IN THE APARTMENT!

The gasps at the reveals, the plot twists! The way you would hear the music and immediately be teleported to that game, how the strings and piano would make you feel so much happiness and as if you were flying, only to then have the super dramatic music come and and BAM you feel your heart race and you keep worrying if your favorite character is going to be ok, and WHAT IS HAPPENING I THOUGHT THIS WAS A DATING GAME?!?

Getting to feel what the characters feel, feeling part of the story. Ironically though the game already has pre made choices you do feel as if it’s you or your character talking to them.

It’s been a few years since I’ve actually had MM in my phone. I actually remember the first time I downloaded it- it had just come out, and my dumbass thought you could actually SPEAK to them?!? So I remember Zen calling and me going “hello..?” In a whisper since it was night and everyone else was sleeping lmao.

I remember how I’d take full advantage of spring break and all those vacations from school to just grind the fuck out of those hourglasses to get to that Saeran route because by god I was dating that man.

I was pretty lucky bc I remember I did the Zen route first, didn’t even finish it 💀 uninstalled the game, and like a year later got in when they were celebrating a TON of stuff, I don’t remember exactly what it was but I got a lot of hourglasses and immediately went to date Seven lol.

Hmm bear with me, for a second. I am just speculating and going only by songs and her public appearances.

But I think more than fame and money, Taylor was looking for approval as a serious artist since rep. What I mean is till Rep Tour/Lover she was stuck with her old formula and that meant being an A-Lister and maintaining that status quo. She was someone who is always out and about with other A-listers and in the most prominent of parties. She was everywhere and with people just as rich and famous. But doing that just wasn’t working anymore. Because she was praised by the art snobs only when she did lowkey stuff like acoustic performances, collaborations with Gary Lightbody or The Civil Wars. And these were the people whose criticisms really gained steam because they had art cred and people who gassed their opinions up.

Maybe it was old juvenile insecurities back then and that she had to be the most famous and most “accepted”. When she was accepted by mainstream celebs but saw scepticism from critics and makers and enjoyers of “cool indie records” she switched gears because Taylor is almost always running around to make people love her. And this is not speculation, she has said so many times that she does do stuff for validation.

She prides herself on being a songwriter and lyricist and that is what we love about her and being mainstream didn’t let her use “big words”. (Like come on swifties go gaga over words like matinee, machiavellian, and joked about needing dictionaries for evermore and folklore. I know there are many POCs in the fandom but it’s not like we don’t know English at all.) But my point is, Taylor wanted to be a cool indie record person now that she was as famous as one can be. No one can take away that from her - for better or for worse.

She now hangs out with HAIM sisters, is around boygenius, Stella McCartney, PWB - famously cool artists. In Paris she makes it a point to say “somewhere the culture is clever”, in The Lakes she wants to be where “the poets went to die”. But everyone doesn’t have to be a “cool” artist and this act on Taylor is so-

Because she doesn’t interact with her fans like these people, can’t price her tickets like them, can’t voice her political opinions and campaigned like a director for a glorified music video. She did a cameo in Amsterdam for some reason???

And maybe that’s why she liked Joe and the privacy- that somehow she was being cooler. She liked him because he had a normal grounded life but was still an artist, he had “honour” and was in cool indie films by choice.

But we are seeing her circling back to her old self with the re recordings now that the money is coming in and people love her again, Taylor just doesn’t feel authentic the way she felt since Rep. And I just want to enjoy her music but as a swiftie I really am not able to do that because of her mind games. And she knows she plays mind games with us, her joking about easter eggs, her saying she lurks and sees, leaving hints everywhere is to keep us hooked. Folklore, Evermore could have been a great pivotal turn, but they were just that because now she was “in” as a cool artist and even more famous.

Sigh. I hope this is just a phase - for me, I don’t like not liking Taylor. I would still go to war if someone said something about her, but she does need to be honest, she has been vague her entire career and for once I’d just like some honesty.

These are such interesting takes, anon! I don’t agree with all of this but I’m posting hoping more people will chime in with their thoughts :).

I will say that the re-recordings and Midnights wouldn’t have been half as respected/successful/well-regarded as they are now if they hadn’t been preceded by folkmore. I love those two albums as much as the next person, but I hate that it really took two “serious” albums for people to take her seriously. I have a friend who’s a big Phoebe fan and he never gave Taylor the time of the day until she released folklore. He loved that album and pointed out that seven sounds like a Joni track.

Imagine if she’d released Vigilante Shit or Bejeweled after Lover… c’mon.

Now, Taylor is also clearly a fan of indie cool music and old movies. She’s showed us that repeatedly. She’s much less “pop” in her personal life than she is in her music, imo. But, at the same time, I agree that for the longest time she maybe was a bit insecure about certain stuff (the fact that she made fun of the “adult” books Jake read and the “adult” music he listened to says it all…).

It’s very complex, but… she did folkmore because she threw all her formulas away and she wanted to bare her soul, BUT also because she wanted to be taken a bit more seriously. But I also think that in her personal life she’s more “indie and cool” than she lets on (except for the fact that she watches true crime, which I hate).

But it sucks because people weren’t taking her seriously, and she’s a SERIOUS songwriter, a literal genius! I’d go insane if people weren’t taking me seriously because of the themes I sing about even though my songwriting is godlike… I imagine that’s how Jane Austen must feel too, I’m her tomb, since so many people disregard her books as “romance novels” as if she isn’t one of the most innovative writers the world has ever witnessed.

Taylor wanted to sit with the cool kids because she is a cool kid, for what concerns her work and her talent, but they weren’t letting her.

Oooooh, this is going to be a long one.. I always thought that my view of the South Park characters were pretty boring so here are my first impressions:

Kyle broflovski

Sexuality Headcanon: I personally think he’s straight, I feel like I’ll get a lot of shame because of this but I never really saw him as a bisexual man let alone a gay man😭 I’m so sorry. But on one hand I do kind of see him being a Demisexual? I don’t know if there is really that much evidence to it but I feel like him being Demisexual. I can also see Asexual Kyle too? I think he’s straight but definitely not allo.

Gender Headcanon: I think he’s a cis man, but trans boy Kyle sounds like a good headcanon? It mostly rooted from Cartman’s sexist jokes but it sounds pretty cool, I’m down for more trans rep! Even if it’s from canonically cis characters..

A ship I have with said character: Kybecca is so fuckwg cute !!!!!!! The way Kyle guides her into relationships was adorable. I also like the dynamic of a shy awkward inexperienced-in-relationships girl and a nice (a genuinely nice) guy who helps her out when it comes to relationships!!! Fucking blorbos.. I want to hold them around like 2 little kittens :( I also really see the potential in Kychole and I wish it got more recognition, it would’ve been an actually great chance for him to get a girlfriend, fuck you Cartman, like honestly.

A BROTP I have with said character: It’s probably going to be Style, of course. Their friendship is honestly very cute to watch, but it can also get a bit sad at times (ex: assburgers). I also like Tokyle, Kyutters, and Kybe as a brotp. Tolkien and Kyle being mom best friends, looking over at their insane children fighting like little chihuahuas, while talking about mom things.. hwoedhsj. And also Kyle and Bebe being best friends gossiping to each other and spilling the tea (this wasn’t my idea though). I’m a bit stuck towards Kyutters though, cause I only thought of it just now.

A NOTP I have with said character: I used to like this ship A LOT, but now I have to say it’s Kyman. I can still see the potential in One sided Kyman and I always saw it being a thing somehow, but that’s as far as I’ll go for this ship nowadays. Kyman just feels weird, and all it took was a couple of callout posts for me to eventually lose interest in it.

A random headcanon: Kyle is the most simplest guy EVER. His music taste isn’t a specific genre and it all goes down to “well I like music as long as it sounds good”. He doesn’t like a specific type of food and is just like “I like any food as long as it’s good”. He’s the least fashionable and most distasteful guy in town, and his friends (the main 4 ofc) attempted to try and get him into fashion and introduce him to different kinds of genres (whether it be music, movies, or whatever) to see which one he’d consider to be his favorite. But it NEVER worked out, he’s just that boring. (Yeah, I’m projecting onto him, what about it)?

General Opinion over said character: He’s honestly such a well developed character, he’s not exactly my fave but I can definitely understand his popularity and place in this fandom! He’s just a lil guy :)

Stanley marsh

Sexuality headcanon: I think he’s either straight or bisexual, but all I know is that he definitely went through a bicurious phase. Remember how confused he was when Wendy turned out to be trans? He was also confused about Tweek and Craig’s whole relationship! He doesn’t know where he stands on the LGBT spec but he’s still trying to figure it out.

Gender headcanon: I only thought of this just now but demiboy Stan. I also like to think he’s experimenting with his gender, and it goes down to the examples I listed trying to describe his sexuality from my perspective. He’s open to people using any pronouns on him, and I love that for him :)

A ship I have with said character: Stendy, I remember drawing Stendy A LOT over here. I still love their relationship but not as much as I used to. Although, I have to say that I still yearn for their good ol’ girlboss and malewife dynamic.. I would also consider Stolkien because their current relationship reminds me of a forbidden romance, it’s honestly interesting to look at it that way. I like to think he tries to get together with Tolkien in an attempt to open more doors for relationships, relating to his whole bicurious and gender questioning thing.

A BROTP I have with said character: Just like the brotp I have for Kyle, it’s Style. I also really like Stary as a friendship. I honestly hope that Gary might make a comeback and Stan would spend more time with him, while the rest of the main 4 gets absolutely mad they are hanging out with such a “wuss” and not with them instead >:( but unfortunately Gary is just a one and off character.

A NOTP I have with said character: I honestly don’t know what notp I have for him, I don’t seem to have any Stan ship that I actually loathe. I’m pretty sure I stated before that I LOVE ships featuring stan despite him not being my fave. Which is a bit weird to think about, but I’ll just leave it as a mere coincidence for now.

A random headcanon: Despite the fact that Stan’s goth phase was supposed to happen because of the fact Wendy broke up with him, he actually developed an interest in the goth style and still (secretly) hangs out with the goth kids. The goth kids don’t seem to mind being around him and they’re nice enough to actually guide him through the goth style! Stan REALLY enjoyed getting into it and the goth kids developed a soft spot for him, they’re a bunch of softies on the inside :( Stan would also wear a bunch of edgy black t shirts under his jacket because he just got soooooo into it. And his friends still don’t know about it, his interest in goth culture is still a secret, mostly out of fear of being ripped on.

General Opinion over said character: I honestly like him because he slightly reminds me of myself? We aren’t ENTIRELY similar but I can see myself in him. I also find a lot of his ships tasteful.

Kenny McCormick

Sexuality headcanon: I used to think he was a straight aromantic but now I can see him being pansexual, like I’m pretty sure he would love ANYTHING with titties. Him being a closeted pansexual aro is honestly very swaggy in my book. I say closeted because he literally lives in a family of rednecks, I think he’ll have to deal with a lot of internalized homophobia here. And I think it’s interesting to explore that in him! (The internalized homophobia idea was again not mine).

Gender headcanon: he’s a cis GNC man, he’s perfectly fine with identifying as a man but he loves dressing up as a princess, and he still does it from time to time!

A ship I have with said character: I don’t think I have any ship with him aside from Kenman. Their dynamic works very well and the way they laugh at each other’s jokes is so fuckeng adorable. I think their friendship should be explored more often, both in the actual show and in the fandom. There is a lot to unpack there. And also the way they carry a BFF necklace, adorable.

A BROTP I have with said character: Kenman again (I like it both romantically and platonically). I’m not used to ships with Kenny in them so I’m sorry if this is EXTREMELY bland.

A NOTP I have with said character: I’m sorry to say this but I never really found Bunny interesting.. that’s all I have to say, I’m sorry if that disappoints any of you.

Random headcanon: speaking of Kenny loving to dress as a princess, he sometimes roleplays as princesses with his little sister Karen, they come up with the most dramatic storylines ever and Kevin gets so annoyed by it sometimes and tells them to shut up. This one time Kenny and Karen stayed up all night playing dress up and they talked so loudly, that everyone woke up by the stupid annoying sounds they made. They never stopped doing it, and it was hell on earth for everyone else aside from these 2 mfs >:) I think there was also a point where all the other people around them heard it, but it was rather faint, so it took a while for everyone else to notice the loudness of it all.

General Opinion over said character: I never really thought about him, so my impression of him is a bit boring. But I’m hoping to dig more into his character if that’s what you guys want!

mili anon (again. sorry) and i feel i should've been a bit more clear there was a reason i didn't mention love town when i mentioned "For a Place of Love" (well according to the fandom 2 reasons but primarily this one) and that's because i honestly really enjoy the perspective of someone listening to the songs made for Library of Ruina without actually having the in-game context. It's a pleasant source of evidence that the songs stand strong enough on their own while also being extremely fascinating to me who got into mili through LoR to see the different perspective.

To be honest I kinda ran out of steam after seeing how long that last ask was so I didn't get to cover some of the non-LoR mili songs I really like, like Bathtub Mermaid which is a very gruesome song (like major major trigger warning of self-harm) of giving everything you have up to someone else and molding oneself to fit someone else's needs,,, i love the lyrics where even the song's subject is like "i'll embrace everything good about you... and then squeeze out all the bad things" it really makes you think about who is all this destructive devotion really for? what is even left at the end? aughhhh

(anyways sorry again about how long this has gotten, and the whole "we don't talk about love town" is a blatant lie. from what i've observed LoR fans can't seem to shut up about love town lmao)

ok yes though!!! absolutely!!! like i am aware there’s a story here but i’d actually rather just garner it from the context of the song as opposed to necessarily getting into the media. it’s a fun activity. like musicals that you don’t intend to ever watch but that you love the songs from and you’re like listening closely to the lyrics to figure things out. and i think all these mili songs are so good and well written that you can easily enjoy them without even being aware they’re from media. absolutely fantastic

ok if we’re on the topic of other ones. how about ‘ga1ahad and scientific witchery’? super fun one. i would love to watch someone piece together an entire original story based on it. i’m getting like this love-hate relationship between a witch and a (cyborg?) knight. who keep killing each other but coming back to life (out of undying hate? out of a commitment to each other? not wanting to kill each other but they’re supposed to be enemies so they’ll fulfill their duty?) whatever’s happening there i love this one it’s a lot of fun. featuring such lines as ‘rise from bed my darling, so i can see you again/so i can kill you again’ and ‘kiss me tenderly gently violently’. bangers. and it’s pretty interesting bc the song doesn’t really have a solid structure or repeating pattern it’s kinda just like each section is a new thing entirely and you think it’s gonna end at this one part but it doesn’t but then when it does end you weren’t expecting it lol.

All at varying levels of completion that i just haven’t posted due to several complicated reasons, mostly regarding my own deteriorating mental health.

Discussions about said mental health are below “Keep reading”, TW for all who enter, as it really does get pretty grim. You don’t need to keep reading if you don’t feel comfortable doing so. And i really do mean it.

The reason i’m not posting about any of these isn’t because i don’t like the series, or i’m too busy complaining about the new stuff. It’s because i have a severe mental health problem that’s not only resulting in me not getting the motivation to upload, continue, or even realize what i wanna do, but also because i’m overly paranoid that nobody is going to even care, or worse: somehow spin my content into something wholly negative to get people to rally against me.

I’m happy when other people are happy, but how can i make other people happy when i’m not even allowed to feel happy in my own household? Let alone the fact that this fandom has long since alienated me for reasons that no longer apply. The reason i’m not being positive is because i’m not happy with myself, The Jackbox Party Pack 10 certainly isn’t helping, but it’s not the only reason i’m not laughing and goofing off with a franchise i still really love despite how frustratingly unsustainable it’s constantly forcing itself to be.

I know i shouldn’t let the perspectives of others influence my decisions, but when my own safety has gotten threatened, to the point of getting death threats, especially at the age i got them, can you fully blame me for being a little negative and not doing what i love? When everything i do is perceived with malice instead of passion, it gets a little hard to stay passionate. My home life isn’t a healthy one, and the majority of my elementary years just felt like i was getting bullied by my own teachers. High school certainly helped with how nice and understanding everyone was to me and my struggles, but my life has been filled with a bunch of horrible experiences that not everyone, not even my own family, is aware of, or fully comprehends the scope. I’m trying to get a therapist, but it’s very difficult to do so.

I still wanna make people happy, ever since i first started going online, that’s why i started creating to begin with. I don’t like drama, i don’t like creating drama, it stresses me out and i just wanna hold hands and plan happy sunshine picnics with the people i care about. I’m an optimist in spirit, but a realist in nature and a pessimist in practice. Maybe when i’m able to move out, i’ll be able to finally start my dreams of just making content to make people happy, and in turn, making me happy with their joy. It sounds self-destructive, and maybe a bit childish, but that’s truly what makes me happy: giving. But i need to get help before i can really start to give.
