Muse full gigs
Some full shows that are available, for anyone who wants to partially relive the Muse live experience.
I figured no one's made lists in a while.
La Cigale, Paris By-Request gig 2018
youtube
rarities + I guarantee I'm gonna fuck up Space Dementia + water spitting + Matt and Dom playing Grammy hosts in the way they announced the winners of the by-request polls
Some cool and noteworthy gigs:
Live Lounge 2012
The Mayan 2015 (performance wise this gig was stunning)
Royal Albert Hall 2008 (Teenage Cancer Trust charity gig - Megalomania on the pipe organ!)
Reading Festival 2011 (10 years of Origin of Symmetry - played the album start to finish)
AOL Sessions 2006
Reading 2006 (Muse's first time headlining if I remember right. Plus, Matt's moves!)
Glastonbury 2004 (first Glasto headline and a must-watch! Of the iconic mad-scientist, white lab coat era. Muse had called it the best gig of their life so far, at the time) (*Ruled By Secrecy was played live but wasn't included in the concert footage DVD and isn't in this video upload either)
Montreaux Jazz 2002 (height of piano maniac-ery days. Would also recommend Pinkpop 2002 but they don't. have. the footage anymore :( Space Dementia at Pinkpop 2002 was phenomenal. 2004 is also good, but I never found 2002 again. Speaking of which,)
Pinkpop 2004 (most songs are in, a few performances missing unfortunately)
MCM Café 1999 (marvel at what a good live act this young band aged 21 already was—with about 4 years of gigging experience under their belts. Insane how good they are.)
Wembley 2007 (H.A.A.R.P. The first band to sell out the newly rebuilt Wembley Stadium. 90,000 people. You need to understand, seeing Chris lift up and point his bass at the crowd at the end of the slightly modified Jimmy Jam riff before Time Is Running Out was a religious experience that changed me and we're lucky enough to live in an age where you and I can witness it over and over and over again and I'd suggest that you do)
Rock Am Ring 2018, uploaded to the Internet Archive by the Muse Historical Society!
Austin City Limits 2013 Philipshalle 1999 Philipshalle 2001 (all suggested in notes, check out the crystal clear gifs from @hotbellamy! :O )
A few additions I remembered after publishing: Eurockeennes 2000 (opened with a then-unreleased New Born. Matt playing a full gig in red sunglasses. Treat to watch. Link's stretched up to fit modern screens but if you want a bit of clarity and don't mind the late 90s ratio stretch, here's a different link) 2002 (quality's a bit shit but that is literally what telly used to look like)
Shepherd's Bush Empire 2006 (Early gigs are always interesting because over time Muse develop different ways of playing songs that are fresh off new albums. The way they work through Take A Bow live is a bit different here, Dom's the one controlling the opening verse synths! During the Abso tour, Matt would play that bit on the piano as an intro to Space Dementia and if I'm remembering right, he does now on the pianos (correct me—this was on the ST tour as well). Also, Starlight in Bm at this gig)
Rock Werchter 2023 (Muse play Rock Werchter in Belgium almost every year, except for the pandemic and 2012 I think, but this year's was a bit special. Best performance of Madness I've seen in a while, I love what he does in the outro! MOTP returns to the set. Muse had tech troubles at the end that caused them to restart Knights of Cydonia twice, to no avail. They finally cut it back for a guitar-bass-drum-vocals-only performance of Showbiz, and Matt's voice sounds exceptional on it— the best in recent years)
Bizarre Fest 2000 (BLESS SOMEONE HAS RESTORED THIS FROM VHS TAPE IN HD, this is so much better than back in the day!! If the falsetto at 1:13 doesn't do it for you, you're into the wrong band, nothing else will help. What an electric performance this was!)
Gigs from WOTP 2022/23 festivals tour last summer:
Nova Rock Rock In Rio Ejekt Fest Isle of Wight Hurricane Festival 2023 (a festival at which Matt once complained that Muse's set was cut short by... hurricanes. But the audio mixing at this gig was really good!)
These are in no particular order, and obviously not complete, I just realised no one had put together a gig archive in a while so I thought I'd give it a stab!
Will edit and add others whenever, there are obviously glaring omissions still!

Exploration No. 5
[namjoon x reader] [1k+ strangers to lovers?, fluff] A/N: This is loosely based on Reese Lansangan's Exploration No. 5. Whenever I listen to the song, I think the line "Hey, what's your favorite crustacean?" was written for Namjoon. Or the entire song might as well have been. Also, I just really miss him. I miss BTS.
-
You hated school excursions, but you think you can make an exception for this particular trip if your museum guide is this cute.
-
For most of the tour, you were spacing out. Walking past exhibits, mindlessly taking photos of artifacts you may or may not use as a reference to your sketches. It's not like you didn't like museums, you actually enjoyed them. But on your own time.
"Y/N, look," Jungkook calls for your attention, imitating the posture of a taxidermized creature.
"Cute," you reply dryly. "Ya!" You hear as you walk away, not in the mood for one of his shenanigans.
You were passing by a group gathered under the fossilized crustaceans exhibit when the guide, passionately explaining an in-depth history of crustaceans, caught your eye.
The museum wasn't exactly short of cute guys, but call it fate or whatever you want, but something had you glued to where you stood, a few steps away from him. And it's not like you stayed to gawk at the guy, you were genuinely growing interested and curiouser and curiouser with each discussion.
"So, any questions?" The cute guy asks. Cue crickets and tumbleweeds passing. "Right. Thanks for—"
"Is it true lobsters pair and mate for life?" You dumbly ask. Of all the questions you could ask.
Seeming shocked someone asked a question, Namjoon searches for the source of the voice.
Your eyes meet.
"Ah well, miss…"
"Y/N. Just Y/N"
"Just Y/N," he smirks, "I hate to be the breaker of bad news, but by nature, lobsters are not exactly monogamous. A male lobster would most likely mate with multiple females during encounters lasting days to weeks. So no, lobsters don't pair and mate for life." He clarifies with a smile.
Just when you thought he couldn't be more adorable, you're proven wrong with those dimples.
"Ah, I see," you return with a smile, "Bummer."
"But there are other sea creatures that stick to one when they find their pair; we have angelfishes, sea otters, even some species of seahorses," he ends with a soft laugh.
Fuck, he's really adorable. "Oh, cute," clearing your throat, "I meant the angelfishes, and the uhm..” You let out a half wheeze, half laugh noise.
Now he’s staring with mirthful eyes.
“I was saying it’s cute that there are species that, uhm, that are like, you know, monogamous. Sticks to one; ride-or-die couples, I guess." Great, you're now rambling.
And your group seemed to have moved on to the next exhibit.
Reluctant to leave but unsure how to continue the conversation, he picks it up for you and asks, "Did you get that 'fact' from friends?"
"Huh?"
"The one about the lobster. I presume you watched the series and got it from there."
Now you're embarrassed. "Heh, I did. Kind of embarrassed now to admit that I believed it for years," you titter, "have you watched the show, too?"
He hums in reply. And as he walks further to the fossil aisle, you follow. "My mom bought me all ten DVDs, and from that, I learned to speak English better," he continues. You laugh, thinking it was a joke until you chance another look at him.
"Oh, you're serious." Another smile, then he nods. "So, do you think you're more of a Joey, Chandler, or Ross?"
Now it's his turn to look at you. "Humor me," you continue.
"I guess I'm a bit like Chandler. I see myself relating to his character." You let a beat pass before shamelessly replying, "I bet you don't have much trouble getting girls, though."
At that, he loudly laughs, a few students turning to look in your direction.
Oh, you'd gladly lamely flirt with him in exchange for his amusement.
"That's actually the bit that I relate to. Aside from classes and this internship here at the museum, it's not every day I meet cute girls who would want to talk to me. But today must be my lucky day."
Again, he smirks. He definitely knows how it affects you, too. You blush. And if possible, melt. You don't think you can even look at him, so you turn to face the artifacts. You actually dare to be bashful now when you fired the first flirty remark.
Mouth still stretched to a grin, you turn to face him. "You must think you're charming, huh?"
"Well, I'm assuming if I struck your fancy, at least a little bit." You like the creases by his eyes when he smiles, you think.
"Okay, you did. And you are."
Like a still-frame from a film, you're stood in the middle of the museum, heart eyes staring at each other.
You were the first to break away.
You are about to ask him another question when your professor announces it's time to leave for your next museum destination.
"Ah, I guess you have to go now," he nods towards the corner where students start to gather. You turn to look and agree with a nod, hiding your disappointment.
You try to stall. Just a bit. You gather all the bits of courage you have, "I know this is a bit too direct, but—" You're cut off, "Y/N, come on, we gotta go." Jungkook calls for you.
You huff, "Yea, just a minute. I'm right behind you." You stare him down until he goes ahead without you. And he does, but not before glancing at Namjoon.
You look back at Namjoon to see him expectantly looking at you, "Uhm, so thanks for the fact-check.." You trail off as he nods. Your courage was quick to leave you, and with that, you accept defeat.
But as if your fallen confidence were caught by your feet, you were merely a few steps away when you walk back to him, "Hey, what's your favorite crustacean?"
Startled by the question, Namjoon stutters a reply, "What?" He sees you shift in your feet, "Well, I mean, there are a lot, and I guess there's—"
"Can you tell me through text?" You attempt to steel your nerves once again. You can let embarrassment consume you after you leave the museum, but now, you want to shoot your shot.
He laughs and looks at your leaving party, "I guess I can do that since we're pressed for time." He takes your phone to call his, and long fingers quickly types in his name and number before you hear Jungkook call for you again across the gallery.
"Thanks," you see his saved contact and smile, "Joon."
He smiles back with a nod.
Ah. There's that killer smile. You want to dip your finger in those dimples, you think.
You hold back your intrusive thoughts and rush to your friends.
Unbeknownst to you, Namjoon’s stupefied, in a good way. And as he watches you catch up to your group, you turn around and wave goodbye. He returns the gesture.
-
Sat at the bus and enthused, you send Namjoon a message.
"Hey, tell me again, what's your favorite crustacean?"

hey sam! i was just ruminating that it's a fantastic time for authors to do dvd commentaries, and other 'ask the author' memes. it's additional material and feedback all in one package! (after we explain what a dvd extra is)
I suppose I'm of two minds about it. My immediate thought was that authors have always done Q&As, but it's true that they used to be less accessible both to readers and to the authors if they weren't big names, because they required travel (and in the reader's case, knowing the author would be traveling, plus having to go out to wherever they were doing the reading). Authors still do book tours and signings for that kind of purpose, but being able to do that kind of thing online as well now makes it easier and cheaper. Although I wonder whether there's less sense of connection because it's not face-to-face. But yeah, I would imagine it's pretty great for gauging what the overall readership is interested in. Certainly in dialogue with readers when I put my books up for review, I always learn a lot.
The idea of a DVD commentary is kind of interesting because I was like "How would that work with a book, though?" and I guess you could annotate an ebook -- like, offer a version with little widgets where if you clicked them you'd get the author adding notes about the book. I've never been a fan of actual DVD commentaries -- I don't like filmed interviews because they take so fucking long to actually say anything, and with a DVD commentary you've now got the addition of "talking over the story". But I could see how if you loved a book you might like having a version where you've got extra notes.
I struggle with the idea of "additional material" somewhat. I suppose that's ironic given how much I discuss outside-of-book on this blog, but that's just....I don't know, it's answering questions, it's not like "building the canon outside of the canon", and if I think something is good enough, it always goes into the books. The whole "They speak English with a Welsh accent" thing was amusing, but then I was like "Yeah let's actually put that in the text, why should it live on Tumblr alone?"
There's so much media now where it feels like if you aren't spending every waking moment interacting with every aspect of it, you just don't get to...be a fan, in an active sense. There are podcasts I follow where if you want to do anything other than listen to the episodes, even if you just want to attend a live show or buy merchandise, you have to dedicate significant time weekly to following them on all the social media and actively read their Patreon. And I just can't. I really like that creators can put that kind of thing out there, I think overall that's to the good, but it feels like something I'm blocked from participating in.
So, I keep all my shit here. I've had it suggested that I'd benefit as a writer from having a newsletter, which I actually agree with, and it seems like it could be entertaining to do. But I get caught up in this dichotomy of "Well, won't people be mad that they have to go subscribe to this thing instead of just reading my tumblr?" and/or "Won't subscribers be aware they can just find all this on my tumblr?" and I get real in my head about it. Because I'd struggle with having to go two separate places for stuff like that.
Uh, to circle back to your actual ask, however, because all that was just like...IDK, weird anxiety digression, I do think it's a great era for extra-canonical material, and while it does mean creators have to be much better at boundary-setting than they used to be, I like that they can adjust their level of interaction as they see fit.
Oh and uh. It's felt awkward to actually talk about it, but if you guys do want more material I do have a sideblog, @shivadh, which is where I stash everything I want to make note of for the books -- research, imagery, stuff I've talked about here that hasn't got a place to go in googledocs yet, that kind of thing. It's not extra material per se, it's just me shoving shit into a filing cabinet, and I don't do image IDs like I do here because it's more for me, plus I do delete posts once I've made use of them. But folks are welcome to follow if they want to.

2011 Haylor Timeline
Timeline Tag, or years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

We don’t know the whole story
Although Harry and Taylor have never said when they met or started dating, often assumed to have met At the March 2012 Kids Choice Awards, because it was the first time we saw them together. 2 weeks after the awards Justin Bieber said a superstar liked Harry, but didn't name Taylor or say they met at the awards. I have a post about the Kids Choice awards/IKYWT Secret message and Harry's Jacket here.
A source close to Taylor later said to Vanity Fair he had chased her for a year, before the started dating, which was also before he kissed Emily Ostily on the 21 April 2012 and Taylor posted about infidelities to Instagram on 23 April 2012 (which doesn't make sense if they met 24 days earlier).
That would indicate they had met by March 2011. Which is likely as they were in the same city and locations throughout 2011. In 2014 Taylor told Rolling Stone:
"People think they know the whole narrative of my life, I think maybe that line is there to remind people that there are really big things they don’t know about."
As Taylor said to Time Magazine in 2023 and Harry said to Howard Stern in 2019 it's not in their interests for a new relationship to be public before they are solid.  In Harry's words 'it's never benefited me' for a relationship to be public. In 2011 people were sent death threats for having dinner with him. It's no wonder they were hidden for most of that time.  Special thanks to @cntfightmydemonsthyknowhowtoswim for help with this. You are the best.

24 November Sugarscope asks if they have an eye on anyone in the US and mention Taylor Swift, all 5 are actually quiet for the first time, Liam’s face changes to serious (0:34), Harry and Zayn look at Louis, maybe because of Oct 4. Niall offers Demi Lovato and all the boys start saying Hollywood in a silly voice. The same interviewer asks about romantic Christmas plans, Louis looks at Harry again, Harry answers truthfully “Christmas at home with family” seems the interviewer and band know what’s not being said, they ask Harry twice
8 December - Caroline and Harry photo, see Caroline post from another blog
13 December - Taylor's birthday party inside her Nashville apartment. posted a photo in a recording studio, so assumed that Begin again was recorded on on her birthday. Taylor not seen again that year other than Snow on the Beach Photos. Harry seen in London on the 13th. One direction in tour rehearsals till tour begins 18 December in England.
15 December - Harry posted that he went skinny dipping, as in no shorts to avoid doubt. Taylor still MIA. Paper Rings vibes.
16 December - it snowed in Liverpool, including the "Snow on the beach" 50 minutes from Harry's house in Holmes Chapel.
I8 December - 1 July - Up all night tour, Europe till us in February
22 December - in 1D you tube the band chose a fan question “from Taylor, if you were a girl who would you date” and Zayn laughs and says Harry.
24 December - One Direction Holiday till 3 January. Taylor MIA.
28 December - Taylor posts three photos from a beach one with her face on the beach "Childhood beach memories revisited" and one with snow on the beach behind her "Nothing quite like a freezing cold, wintery beach." some have assumed this was in New Jersey, but the shadows look like an afternoon on an western coast and there was no snow in NJ, nor Taylor seen near there. It had snowed at the beach in Liverpool which is west.
Tumblr media
29 December - Taylor posted a seashell with Safe and Sound Lyrics written (it had just been released) with the caption "Saying goodbye to the shore, writing on a seashell."
30 December - Harry got his drivers licence, on 28 June 2012 on Bert show (11 mins) said “the first thing I did was my …….. someone brought the car to me and I dropped them off at the pub” Harry was in Manchester. Louis posted he was in Paris Disneyland with Eleanor. Apart from the winter/snow on the beach photos Taylor hadn't been seen for a week, she then posted a goodbye and Harry's first drive was to drop someone secret somewhere. 👀
youtube
31 December - Harry goes back to London flat for new years party, in same interview Harry said they spent Christmas at home
3 January - Caroline Break up announcement. Harry later tweets, he 'didn't dump' her, he never said they were more than friends. Caroline also said "95% of what was reported was false".
Continue to 2012

random thoughts dump of the week bc none of this deserves its own post
coming down from a smol john kearns kick and really enjoyed it, guy has a ridiculously sweet presence and i really like his voice. it also brings me great joy his previous career was working in museums and as a tour guide. i would like that life, i think (i worked at universal orlando for a little bit in 2013 and was always super jealous of the vip tour guides lol). he mentioned on one of his rhlstps that despite winning arguably the biggest (british) comedy awards there are, he never released a standup special or dvd, and he kinda wants to keep it that way so he has something special between him and his live audience — and that really made me sad face. like, my guy, what about those of us who can't see you bc won't leave that damn island. (also ed gamble's new tour having no nyc date felt personal...) in another episode, he talked a little about, in great part due to social media, people want comedians they can know everything about, get the whole look of; comedians who are the same people onstage as off. he's not like that and doesn't really like the idea of that. i think there's a lot to say about that subject but i'll just leave it for now...
speaking of touring ed byrne next week!!! and jimmy and alan carr coming up!! what a fun time :')
speaking of rhlstp and ed, one thing that occurred to me and i thought was quite funny upon listening to his recent episode is that both richard and ed have that self-aware side of them that admits to bitterness, professional jealousy, annoyance with critics/haters, believing they're not as successful as they deserve to be, etc. while it can come off whiney here and there, it's not too obnoxious or anything, i just found it amusing they had this (often concealed or private) quality in common. i might even put jenny eclair in that camp (others too but that's a discourse i don't really wanna start lmao)
if another youtuber, following amelia dimoldenberg (and munya? does he count?), had to go on taskmaster i would probably vote for ollie kendal off of jolly. in my mind he and alex would be genuinely good friends outside of the show
man i miss the horne section podcast so bad
honestly, i'm a little surprised david mitchell doesn't have a podcast. he loves radio, it's not too demanding of a gig, and he's got tons of interests that could make engaging premises for podcasts... i'm sure someone has floated this to him before, so i need the reason why he said no. maybe he was busy with his book. would love a history pod fr
does anyone else ever remember when david mitchell was in rick and morty and just sit back and go O_O also when he was on graham norton with hillary clinton like lmaooo i just love the idea of the booking agents for that show being like "we're having fucking hillary clinton on who can we bring for comic relief who is a household name but not problematic but intelligent but actually funny" i mean they hit the jackpot of course but it cracks me up that that's his brand
did david ever watch succession? rob def did but i need more about it from both of them
sometimes i think about when david accepted his bafta for peep show and the music that was playing while he walked to the stage was "sex on fire" by kings of leon hahahahaha like what who was djing that night fr
where did charlie brooker go
speaking of back in the day — and i do mean back, like 15+ years ago — and my main panel show obsession was buzzcocks, there were a few non-comedians who would come on panel shows who were properly fucking funny, like martin freeman and josh groban, and i'd always pray they'd eventually come on again. and i think at the time the person at the top of my list was professor green. how random is that TT he was just always up for laugh and just so likable. i also LOVED the song "just good to be green" with lily allen in like 2010 lmaooo this really ages me :)
been really enjoying some old angus deayton-hosted stuff, like old hignfy and wilty. i got into panel shows after he'd stepped out of the spotlight, but i remember being crushed when i found out about his scandal. i also remember stephen fry standing up for him and chastising paul & ian publicly after That Episode of hignfy — which absolutely blew my mind, even though stephen has always said what he thinks — and i agreed with him and am not sure even today if i fully forgave paul & ian for how they treated angus. ik he's still here and there, but i wonder if we'll ever see him in any properly notable capacity again
just watched the latest hignfy actually and jack dee pheww he's ageing very nicely let me just say it and pheww emmanuel sonubi please and thank you. also, paul's outfit was quite nice. an enjoyment of the eyes indeed
i've been making a lot of typos in my gifs lately for literally no reason other than not proofreading my rushing and it's embarrazzing i'm gonna do better
speaking of gifs i have NOTHING!!! in my drafts folder. nothing. no content. nothing is made. nothing in the queue. [sigh] sounds like tonight we be bustin it out huh. idk about other gifmakers (i actually don't follow any other panel show blogs, but this isn't necessarily a panel show blog thing, just a regular original content thing) but i don't usually make gifs throughout the week — instead, like, marathon gif like two times a week and build up 10–20 drafts to post throughout the week. if you gif every single day or to keep up with all of the new content, it starts to become a chore, which is never fun :(
speaking of which i probably won't gif outsiders too much because people don't seem to care too much about it + the webrips are just...so ugly in gif form, even at 1080p! it's a dave thing fr, taskmaster used to be the same way -_-
okay here we go into gif mode btw i got some of your requests and will def make them!!

Kloktober Day 1: OTP
Happy Kloktober. I'm here to start it off with the OTP.
Summary: The final day at Camp Rock-A-Roonie, and Toki can’t get his mind off his camp counselor
Tags/warnings: one-sided magtok pining
Read below, or read on Ao3 here!
It was the final evening at Camp Rock-a-Roonie. Last night’s concert had gone without too many complications, and after Dethklok’s arrival, DVD sales of the camper’s concert were the highest they’d ever been. Most of the attendees had long since packed their musical instruments, and those who weren’t already on their way out were busy congregating with their families, eating hot dogs or chili burgers, or making the most of the remaining sunlight to catch the last of the warm rays or cool lake water. A few fans had tried making it their life’s goal to locate and get autographs from Dethklok, but aside from Toki Wartooth, most of the members had disappeared, having driven off in their tour band overnight before anyone could capitalize on the situation.
Toki remained behind to complete the rest of his camping experience at Rock-A-Roonie. As with his usual escapades, the guys didn’t quite comprehend his reasons for wanting to stay behind, certainly not after learning about the bullying that took place throughout the weekend. Nathan had just the mind to drag Toki into the tour bus upon seeing Magnus Hammersmith, but Pickles ultimately allowed it, figuring once Toki had it out of his system, they could all move one from this stupid camp.
With the sun beginning to set, Toki could easily conclude that he had tired of the camp. After singing a few several dozen guitars and posing with campers for photos, he was eager to call one of his servants forward and demand for them to call forth the Dethbus. The only reason he hadn’t was for one simple reason: he had yet to speak with Magnus.
After last night’s crazy events, Toki was consumed with the idea of befriending Dethklok’s ex-member. The man had selected him to be in his pretend band, protected him from Ludwig and his no-good punk friends the entire weekend, and even saved his life. It wasn't something Toki would ever forget. It was normal for everyone to be peachy with him, the famous Toki Wartooth, but Magnus had looked after him even before he removed his disguise, and once he revealed his true identity, Magnus refrained from being too clingy or uncouth. Quite the opposite, Magnus remained his usual stoic self; only now, Toki would catch him sharing a knowing smile whenever they made brief contact. What exactly it meant, Toki was still unsure. Perhaps Magnus was just as surprised as everyone else to know Toki was more than a beginning guitarist, or maybe the smile was his way of letting Toki know he wasn’t going to drool over him and ask stupid questions? Whatever the smile meant, the occasional friendly stare wasn't enough a form of communication, and with the sky darkening, Toki was increasingly more anxious to locate the old guitarist before the camp officially closed for the summer.
He sat by the pier, watching families gather in the parking lot before driving off the campsite, and Toki counted each one off, until all that were left were a few sparse vehicles in an otherwise vacant lot. One of the klokateers approached and informed him that Nathan and the others were waiting for his word to pick him up.
“It’s getting late, Sire.”
“Tells them I needs five more minutes.” Toki murmured out his answer as his eyes narrowed and honed on someone exiting one of the finer cabins. He studied the figure, squinting past the golden rays that were obstructing his view, and could just make out the round curves of Magnus’ guitar case. Toki brought his knees closer to his chest, and he nervously began chewing the flesh of his inner cheek as he monitored Magnus’ smooth movements. The man looked so cool just walking. Something about the bounce of his hair, the streaks of silver hairs or his belt buckle that glowed under the orange sky, the sharp contours of his face and distinct outline of his nose, and even the way his heels hit the grass,  made both Toki extra eager to speak with Magnus, but also terribly nervous. What could he possibly say to a man so confident, who had everything in the world? Silently, Toki followed Magnus’ stride, until he saw him slow and stop at an old, beat-up car. With swift movements, he unlocked and began stowing his guitar into the backseat, and Toki realized that his dreamy staring was eating away at previous time.
He leapt from the wooden deck, pushing through his servants and picking up his pace to reach the campsite’s open field. From afar, he saw Magnus close the door to his old car to return to his cabin. So there was still time! Toki maneuvered over the deconstructing stage, jumping over pieces of metal and fixtures in order to reach the empting lot. He ran, pushing fellow campers and fans alike, until he reached the old clunker. Minutes later, he saw Magnus returning to drop off more of his personal items, and judging by the stuffed suitcase, Toki had reached him just in time.
“Oh, hey Magnus.” Toki stopped to bring his hands down to his knees. In his hurry, he hadn’t any time to relax, much less think of something to say to the older man. One look at Magnus, and the heat from his running over failed to annoy him in comparison to the sudden rush of nervousness.
“Hey, Toki.” Magnus’ voice welcomed him as he continued to regain control of his breathing and thoughts. Even the way he talked was cool! Upbeat, but also commandeering and…kinda gravely?
Toki swallowed a few deep breaths, then, after wiping a fine line of sweat from his brown, bounced up and approached the man as he raised a hand and unlocked his car with his car keys. “S-sups? You, uhh, good?”
Toki watched Magnus place his suitcase down. A warm smile spread across the older man, capturing Tokis attention and threatening to remove the line-up of casual conversation starters his mind had hastily devised. “Yeah, I’m alright,” Magnus replied, his complexion and composure calm and undisturbed. It made Toki jealous. “I’m actually just about to hit the road,” Magnus continued, pointing his thumb to the old car behind him. “I’m surprised you haven’t left yet.”
“Oh noes,” Toki said, snapping upright. His neck warmed and the palms of his hands began to shake and itch with sweat. Unsure of what to do with them, Toki placed his hands on the side of Magnus’ car. “I wanted to gets to hangs with all the friends I made before I leaves.”
“Uh-huh.”
Magnus tossed his suitcase into a messy trunk partially filled with old clothes, crumpled paper and plastic bags. Toki blinked as a wave of dusty air struck his face. He swallowed another thick ball of air as Magnus slammed the trunk shut. His faded denim jacket caught some of the flying dirt and sand, but most of it continued to rise and settle across his bare chest where, once it was noticed by Toki, was impossible to ignore. Even when Toki finally managed to drag his stare from the older man’s chest, there were other things that distracted him. The long, bristly beard. The slight dent on Magnus’ belt buckle. His one rich, brown eye.
How did such a neat guy end up getting kicked out of Dethklok? Until last night, Toki never paid much attention to the band’s history. Pickles and Nathan had their fair share of warnings, but surely whatever went on between the men couldn't have been too serious. otherwise, they wouldn't have let Toki remain behind, right? Did any of it really matter?
“Something wrong, dude?”
Toki caught Magnus peering at him with an odd expression. “Huh?”
Magnus pointed. “You keep staring.”
A blush exploded across Toki’s face and ears. “Sorries. I just… I was wonderings…”
Yeah?”
Had his stares been that obvious? The thought made Toki want to drown himself in the lake, but Magnus’ funny smirk and the way he stood in front of him, holding himself high as he leaned against his car with his arms crossed, kept Toki’s shaking legs glued in place.
A cool, evening breeze swept past them, and the chilly air helped soothe Toki’s nerves. That, and that knowing smile returning to Magnus.
“I knows we just mets and alls,” Toki started, and to his surprise, Magnus nodded along to his trembling words, “But since we got along so wells dis weekend, and since you saved my lives–thanks again, by the ways.”
“No problem, Toki.”
“W-well.” Toki dug his heels into the dirt before stiffly shoving a hand into his pocket. He shakingly pulled out his phone which, once it was freed, gained a significant amount of weight in his unsteady hand.  “I was wonderinks if you’s maybe wanted to hang outs some times?”
Toki heard the cracks in his voice and inwardly winced. In front of him, Magnus was unchanged and difficult to read. Doubt hurried its way into his head, and Toki frantically searched for a way to better interest the older musician. Then, before he could process the thought, he added, “It doesn't haves to be with just Toki; I can brings Dethkloks along, too! We cans all hangs out togethers, if you prefers.”
Magnus’ curious stare broke into a smirk. Toki’s legs wobbled at the prospects of his offering possiblying being rejected. Because why on earth would an old rocker want  to hang out with someone like him? Magnus probably had better things to do than spend his afternoon hanging out with someone as silly and easy to pick on as himself.
“You know what?” Magnus rubbed the bridge of his nose with a finger and thumb, then chuckled. “I’d be down for that…but I don’t know about inviting the others.”
“Huh?”
Magnus drew closer. The ends of Toki’s eyes strained as his stare widened at the incoming figure that appeared so giant before him.
“Not to worry you, or stir up any drama,” he continued, and because they were so close and Magnus was so tall, all Toki could do was lock his eyes with the lips forming each word, until they broke into a low chuckle. “Well, call me presumptuous, but I personally think you and I would have more ... fun if it were just the two of us. Agreed?”
Toki was sure he had just about had a heart attack at the suggestion.
Just the two of them? So, Magnus liked him back? He thought he was equally cool and worthy of being friends with, possibly more? A ticklish sensation bubbled up from Toki’s stomach, into his throat. He saw his vision blur a moment, then saw Magnus’ warm smile reenter this foggy mind. Just like last night, Toki thought, and he had to bite his tongue to keep him from laughing or getting too excited in front of Magnus.
Last night, his mind returned again. Something special definitely happened last night.
“Well?” Magnus then asked, and he opened his palm in front of Toki.
“Oh? Oh!” Toki saw his moment opening before him, and as he outstretched his clammy hands, he fumbled and nearly caused his phone to slip from his shaky grip, but he still managed to keep it long enough before placing it into Magnus’ palm.
Toki swallowed the second he felt their fingers collide during the transfer, and held his breath as he watched Magnus punch in his number. Another cool breeze flew between them, but Toki could hardly sense it through the gathering heat around his face and chest. When did it get so warm, he fretted, but his worries vanished when he suddenly felt the back of  Magnus’s steady hand brush against his face.
Then, his Dethphone returned into view, and with his mind at a blank, Toki picked the dangling phone before him back into his trembling hands.
A rush of cool air blanketed his face once Magnus broke contact. “See you soon, buddy.”
Still at a blank, Toki brought a hand to his cheek, feeling Magnus’ gentle imprint seep from flesh to flesh, and reignited the butterflies in his stomach. “Uhm, see you’s,” he said back, his voice now harboring the shakiness that had controlled  his limbs. Thankfully, Magnus didn’t hear it, and had returned to packing the rest of his belongings into the car.
If it weren’t for that knowing grin of his, Toki might have assumed everything had happened in his head. But it happened, and Magnus confirmed it one last time as he stared out the window and flashed Toki one last playful smirk before driving off.
Toki smiled, and remained so long after the dust trail in front of him began to disperse, and the sun set into the trees, leaving behind only the glow of his phone’s screen swaying excitedly in his hands. Once he lost sight of Magnus’ car, he lifted his phone and, with a bashful flash of his teeth, stared at the recently added contact on the screen.
The Dethbus made its return about ten minutes later, picking up a stupidly happy Toki before making its own dissent into the woods.
Sometime during their drive down the highway, Pickles caught him, still starry-eyed and wearing the cheekiest smile, and commented, “What’s got you all giddy?”
Without tearing his eyes from the screen, Toki answered, “Nothinks.”
He couldn't explain it, but he knew this was the start of something very special.

Holy Ground and the show in SD
Everybody knows that the secret message for Holy Ground is "When you came to the show in SD". Since Taylor never performed in South Dakota on the Speak Now tour, SD is widely understood to mean San Diego, and "you" is widely believed to be Joe Jonas.
But here's the catch: Joe Jonas wasn't at the Speak Now tour in San Diego, which was on 20 October 2011. Why do we know this? He was in France on the same day.
Tumblr media
Taylor said in an interview that Holy Ground was about "the feeling I got after years had gone by and I finally appreciated a past relationship for what it was". According to the Lover diaries, Holy Ground was written by February 2012, at which time her latest ex was Jake Gyllenhaal, having been apart for almost a year. So who else could Holy Ground be about?
Jake Gyllenhaal? I seriously doubt that Jake "cool indie music concerts" at Gyllenhaal would have gone to a Taylor Swift concert. Also, Jake was papped in New York on the 17th and again on the 23rd, so it seems that he was in New York at the time. And she did say "years" had gone by, so maybe not.
John Mayer? Ha, no way Taylor appreciates that relationship.
Taylor Lautner? I couldn't find any records of what Taylor Lautner was doing in October 2011, so he could have been in San Diego. But there's also no proof of that happening, and it would be weird that she chose to reference San Diego and not the one time she hugged Taylor Lautner in Los Angeles, which one could reasonably expect to have been more emotional for her. More tellingly, the line "first glance feeling on New York time" doesn't make sense in the case of Taylor Lautner, as they met on the set on Valentine's Day, which was filmed around Los Angeles.
Some old ex we haven't heard of? Given nobody of note was found in San Diego that night, this is a compelling theory. But again the New York reference presents problems, given that she would have met her old exes in Tennessee or Pennsylvania.
Which brings us back to Joe Jonas. Joe was spotted attending the Speak Now tour in Los Angeles (August 28), and again in San Jose (September 1). Given how nobody else seems to fit the specifics of the song Holy Ground, Joe Jonas still remains the likeliest suspect. The San Jose concert is also interesting as her arm lyrics/"mood ring" that day was "After all that we've been through, I know we're cool", which is basically the central thesis of Holy Ground. And "all that we've been through" is a word-for-word quote from Holy Ground.
Another fun but probably unrelated tidbit is that the San Jose show was also the one featured on the Speak Now World Tour DVD. We know this because she covered Train's Drops Of Jupiter that night, which is on the DVD. (You can also catch some glimpses of the arm lyrics, although some of the shots are from the second San Jose show.)
Tumblr media
(source)
Also, since Holy Ground is about a past relationship that she now appreciates, it follows that she didn't appreciate it in the past. This only holds true for Jake Gyllenhaal, John Mayer and Joe Jonas. We do know that she made up with Joe Jonas pretty quickly (or else he wouldn't have gone to her concert), while she will never give Jake nor John peace (we stan), so there's that.
So I do think the song is about Joe Jonas, but Taylor just misremembered San Jose as San Diego. She does stuff like that sometimes. Or maybe she couldn't fit "SJ" into the liner noters and settled for "SD" instead: there's no letter J in the lyrics after the S in "dust". It might be interesting to note that she also misspelt Hyanissport in the secret message for Everything Has Changed (there's an extra I), so there's precedent.
P.S. Nobody seems to know where or when Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas met.
P.P.S. For a brief moment, I thought maybe "came to the show in SD" referred to something at the beginning of their relationship? Taylor performed on the Fearless tour in San Diego on May 24, 2009, and Joe Jonas was... in Brazil. It's like the universe doesn't want Joe to be in San Diego or something.

Interview with Rhys from the 20 October 2010 issue of Inpress Magazine
Rhys Darby is heading back to Australia with his new stand-up show, It's Rhys Darby Night. The Kiwi comedian speaks to Aleksia Barron about his rapid rise to the upper eschelons of the comedy world.
When Rhys Darby answers the phone from his headquarters in New Zealand, the temptation to demand a Flight of the Conchords band-meeting style roll call is almost overwhelming -- but most certainly unoriginal.
When asked whether journalists are still demanding that Darby declare himself 'present', he laughs. "It's almost gone, the roll-call hounding," he says. "It was very big last year. But you do get the odd mention."
New Zealand's number one ginger ninja, Darby, is a comedic star on the rise. After years of traipsing around the UK peddling his wares as a stand-up comic, he became involved with a radio project alongside a pair of Kiwi funnymen, Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement. That project was Flight of the Conchords, which gave rise to the television series of the same name catapulting the trio of New Zealanders to overnight fame. And while McKenzie and Clement were front and centre in the spotlight, Darby's performance as hapless band manager Murray saw him getting noticed by the industry elite.
The turning point where Darby realised that he had truly reached a new level of success was his appearance in the Jim Carrey vehicle Yes Man. It was a sign that a career in comedy acting was a real possibility for him.
"I certainly hoped that that's where I could go, but I had no idea that it would happen that fast and that quickly," he explains. "Getting Yes Man, that was just freaky. I'd sort of idolised Jim Carrey for a long time, and I hoped to one day maybe meet him -- but to act in a film with him, my first feature film, well, I can't really describe how that felt. I thought, 'This should take a bit longer'."
The cherry on the sundae, so to speak, was Carrey's unrestrained public praise of Darby while on the film's promotional circuit, when the established actor likened his co-star to Peter Sellers. "That meant a lot to me, coming from a man that I'd looked up to so much."
There's been no shortage of feature film opportunities for Darby since, including a cameo on oddball hit The Boat That Rocked and parts in upcoming rom-coms Coming & Going and Love Birds.
"I kind of just had to hold onto the reins," he says, laughing. However, never one to rest on his laurels, Darby was keen to show his chops on the stand-up circuit. He embarked on a worldwide tour, coinciding with the release of his stand-up comedy DVD, Imagine That!. The DVD release, Darby explains, introduced audiences to his stand-up style, which helped him be seen as himself, not just Murray. "It was really perfect timing, because [the DVD] became quite popular, and then people knew that I did actually do stand-up. People were already aware of it when I went on tour."
Now he's returning to stages around the world with a new show, It's Rhys Darby Night, in which he's broadened his on-stage range of comedic tricks. While Darby's stand-up is known for his sound effects and impressions, this time around, he's raising the bar.
"I do three characters in the show, which to me are probably the funniest part in it," he says, adding that these characters will involve, "actually going back and putting a different outfit on. I decided I could do this because I've done a bit of acting and people seem to laugh at my characterisations on film, so I've added that."
Conchords fans will doubtless be pleased to know that It's Rhys Darby Night will feature Darby's musical abilities as well (who could forget Leggy Blonde or the operatic Rejected?). "I've got a theme song!" he says enthusiastically. "I think everyone should have one, which you can slip out at parties. I open the show with a theme song about me, based on me, sung by me." He chuckles, "I don't know how good it is, but people seem to laugh."
The reason behind the new material, Darby explains, is his increased confidence in his comedic acting abilities. "For me, stand-up has always evolved, and as I've grown in popularity I've thought, 'Okay, people do like what I've got, so I'll challenge myself'. I just love doing comedy acting now."
However, when it comes to looking at the longer term, Darby remains drawn to the small screen. Television, not film or stage, is the medium in which he would like to do the majority of his work. "It's not as fleeting as the other two," he explains. "On film, you're only working with people for three months. And with stand-up, you're very much on your town. Television -- with the limited work I've done on Conchords -- you've got a family. That appeals to me the most, really."
It seems a loaded statement, given the persistent rumours that Darby will take Steve Carrell's place on the US version of The Office. However, when asked where he'd like to be in a year's time, he speaks enthusiastically about his own project, based on one of his new stand-up characters, park ranger Bill Napier.
"We've just shot the pilot," he says proudly. "It's set in New Zealand, about a ranger who goes around the world on adventures, so it's a bit of an Indiana Jones kind of thing, but it's a sitcom. It's the world's first action-adventure sitcom." It sounds just about crazy enough to work, and Darby, who would prefer to remain based in New Zealand with his young family, is crossing his fingers.
"My dream is for that to come about, to be able to film it here, and to sell it to the Americans -- then the whole world can see it."
For now, however, Darby is just excited to be getting back on stage and showing his expanded range as a stand-up comic. "It's about having fun and doing it all." Still, for fans of his earlier work, he's keen to make sure they walk away happy. "I'll usually do a couple of encores -- stuff they've seen in an earlier show or on my DVD, which I know they love." Whatever Darby does, it's clear he'll always aim for the best. "I'm trying to give them everything I've got."

WARNING: LONG POST AHEAD.
If you would have told me around this time last year that in a year from then I would be obsessed with a musical called 1776, I would have laughed in your face.
Tbh, I’ve always liked History, and Hamilton, but 1776 never really seemed like a musical I’d be into. How wrong I was.
The sole reason I even got into 1776 is because of one broadway actor who means a lot to me and has changed my life: Gary Beach. He passed away In July of 2018, so this July will be 5 years, and I’m not ready. I’m devastated it’s already been that many years. He made his Broadway debut after leaving the touring company of 1776 as Dr. Josiah Bartlett, and understudying Rutledge (his dream role) and Lee. For Christmas of 2022 I asked for the DVD of 1776 so I could see what he was talking about. I’m so grateful I made that decision to watch it. When I read the run time I was worried because I can’t sit still for that long unless I’m actually in a theater, but thank god I sat my ass down (unlike John) and watched it because I fell HEAD OVER HEELS in love with it.
The first actor of the cast that I really loved was Howard Da Silva as Ben Franklin. He is so funny in the role and I had quite a thing for him for a bit. I loved the entire cast but he stood out to me at first.
I went in and out with many of the characters and actors, but now I seem to be very fixated on David Ford as Hancock. I have realized within this past month Hancock is my ultimate dream role. Because of this beautiful show, I want to do theater and make it my career. And I hope to make my debut in 1776.
To say I love this musical is a complete understatement. I WORSHIP it. It’s all I THINK about 24/7. I’ve gotten to know so many more broadway actors because of this musical.
If I REALLY had to pick favorites, like if a g*n was pointed to my head, I’d have to say that John Hancock is my ultimate favorite character. With Charles Thompson being a mere close second.
David and Ralston really make this movie for me. The both of them have the final lines in the musical. With Hancock speaking right before Thompson starts reading the names to go sign the declaration. It’s beautiful.
And my all time favorite number? Cool, Cool Considerate Men. Hands down.
So thank you 1776 for changing my life in a way I didn’t know existed.
Thank you to those who like my posts and laugh along with me.
And thank you, to the insanely talented cast members who have given me a reason to live and do what I want to do. To those gone, I miss you every day and I love you.
And to David Ford, I thank you the most out of everybody because your John Hancock has made me want to play the role so badly and to actually be in a musical. You were so insanely talented both in 1776 and Dark Shadows and obviously everything you did. Thank you for the signs you send me every day. I miss you more than you can imagine.
God I love this musical.

OK, I gotta ask, BPP: how many times have you seen BTS live? And what was your most out of body experience doing so?
**
Hi @onthecuterside! 💜
I've seen BTS live in concert eight times, including the KCON in August 2014.
Every one of those times, became one of the highlights of my year. I don't want to overstate it, but BTS are literally one of the most phenomenal performers I've ever seen.
And I've seen Epik High, Twenty One Pilots, Radiohead, Shinee, Kendrick Lamar, Beyonce, ONE OK ROCK, Big Bang, AC/DC, Burna Boy, Janet Jackson, Coldplay, EXO, Foo Fighters, Slaves, etc in concert.
BTS are something else.

You sent in this ask some time ago @onthecuterside, and the truth is I agonized over it. Because how am I supposed to choose my favourite concert?
It's impossible to. Each concert was tied to different circumstances for me that made each one take on a quality of its own. But I did select a couple to potentially talk about:
The Speak Yourself concert in Seoul on October 26, 2019
The Wings tour in Seoul on February 19, 2017
...I saw recently fans were posting clips from the SYS tour. So, I'll talk very briefly about the Wings tour.
*
BTS were so young back then, but the energy they created was electric. Like I got goosebumps just now remembering and writing about it. The Wings Tour DVD is something I recommend every fan watches at least once to get a sense of the sort of energy, inexperience and sincerity they had (and still do). [I can provide a streaming link of the concert DVD via DM for anyone interested]
Set list (excluding Encore section):
Not Today Am I Wrong Silver Spoon Dope Begin Lie First Love Lost Save Me
I Need U Reflection Stigma MAMA Awake BTS Cypher Pt. 4 Fire N.O No More Dream Boy In Luv Danger Run War of Hormone 21st Century Girl Intro: Boy Meets Evil Blood Sweat & Tears
*
Not Today started with a few hiccups if I recall correctly. It's not really evident in the DVD but I remember the sound was a bit inconsistent in some areas, as if they were still getting used to the volume and deciding how hard to sing/rap. Their introduction was cute, and it was easy jamming along to the setlist. By the time it got to Baepsae, I was very awake. But it was Reflection that did me in.
It's Namjoon's solo song. He just stood in front of a mic in a white-ish button-down shirt, and he seemed a bit nervous at some points singing it. The Wings emblem that was moving the entire time, when contrasted against the blue background, was such a simple and arresting sight. I hadn't actually heard the song before that day, and so hearing it for the first time, hearing the lyrics of what he was singing... It stuck with me.
I remember screaming myself hoarse during Cypher Pt 4, and I probably blacked out during Blood, Sweat & Tears - imagine, it's the end of the show, Jimin's visuals after dancing and singing for more than one hour, high on adrenaline...
It's not captured in the DVD but just before the final chorus, I remember there was this look Jimin gave right before moving to the center, and y'all, I had a revelation.
*
I don't want to rub it too much in people's faces, but I knew BTS was different and were going to dominate no matter what, after seeing them live in February 2017. I wasn't even an ARMY then, I didn't have an ARMY bomb, and I knew that if the next year didn't end with BTS on everybody's lips (more than it already was at the time), then something must've gone very very wrong.
It's not their best concert ever IMO (the SYS concert and a few others are contenders for that), but that entire Wings era was incredible.

Good morning! It's your swiftie Christmas/ Winter anon
How are you? What's the weather like there?
Ok so let's talk about Spidey Boy Scooter Braun and selling Taylor's music. Did she sue? Sorry if this is awkward to ask but I'm catching up.
And what did you think of Reputation Stadium Tour and Miss Americana if you watched them on netflix?
Hey anon!
I'm good. A bit sleepy so I'm ignoring my scheduled run for today. The weather is fantastic here right now. Cool (21C) in the mornings and evenings and nicely warm (28C) during the day. How's your weather?
I'm not sure what you mean by "did she sue?". As far as I know, she hasn't sued them because they haven't done anything wrong according to the law. It's just rather morally suspect - on Scott's behalf because it makes a mockery of the relationship they supposedly had, and on Scooter's because of the whole "bought Taylor Swift" ickiness.
I LOVE rep tour on Netflix. I can't tell you how many times I've watched it. The only thing that would have improved it would have been some bonus features like you used to get on DVDs - behind the scenes stuff, more bloopers, you know, cute, fun stuff.
I also really enjoy Miss Americana. I think Lana did a really great job at getting Taylor's trust and some insights that I'm not sure Taylor intended when she agreed to the project. There's a lovely balance to it and my only minor quibble is the edit where it looks like she played Clean in Tampa ... and the way that "fans" use some of the things Taylor said as a stick to beat her with about speaking up/being political.
Anyway, that was quite the ramble. Let me know your opinions too :)

Collection Spotlight: Steps - What the Future Holds Live (Super Deluxe Hardback Edition; 2022)
Step One (US Version; 2000) was the very first CD I ever owned. Over the years, I all but forgot about Steps but in 2020 when What the Future Holds came out I was completely in love! Long story short (since we will certainly get to that album and speak more on it later), I just had to get my hands on everything from this era which was very fruitful. I seriously almost considered traveling to the UK for this tour!! Logistics got the better of me so I hoped they would release a DVD so the moment it was announced I was poring over the Live Here Now website to select the perfect edition. The super deluxe hardback allowed you to have your name in the book along with tons of amazing photos! And tons of photos there are, indeed, I will be posting more of those later. It was so awesome to be able to experience the performance and I am so happy they took the care to put this out for their fans, domestic and international!
