Finally making a post on the gods/monsters/myths AU ideas. Some of them. I'll forget things prolly lol
So for those who know it, the general concept fits (ish) in Ayakashi Romance Reborn world building. For those who don't, short version, monsters/myths/etc exist passably as and among humans. They have a "human" form and their "monster" form. Pretty basic premise but there ya go.
My thoughts from these are pulled from a few different places, headcanon, character personality/background, their tattoos.
Kiryu Kazuma, the easy one, he's a dragon. A lot of people associate Kir with fire, and fair, but with the dragon, I go for water. River/water/etc. His dragon specifically is a rain deity.
Daigo took me a bit to settle before I gave up and was like "fuckit yer' a god now". Or rather, he's an avatar of a god. Sort of. Specifically as per his tattoo, Fudo Myo-oh/Acala. Fudo Myo-oh carries a sword (Kurikara) and rope for subjugating and restraining demons. So I HC him as something of an enforcer of sorts. Keeping the supernatural part of society in line.
Majima was one I flip-flopped on. So I'm keeping both ideas. I tend to lean towards Inugami by default. However naga also suits. With the naga I feel it fits base Majima wonderfully, ties to his tattoo, etc. Inugami however, fit his past, the year of torture he endured. There are aspects of both dogs and snakes that fit him well.
Akiyama doesn't have a tattoo. But I still had some ideas for him. Phoenix (ho-o) fits with his history of rising from the "ashes". He's hit the bottom more than once and always returns. Buuuut. I really liked the idea of him being a "crossroads demon" peddling deals. Perhaps less malevolent than they tend to be depicted, but the same basic idea. Alas, I could not find anything similar in Japanese mythology so.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but as a creator -
I am fine with "the audience" -
downloading my fics
printing my fics
copy/pasting or screenshotting my fics
sharing your saved copy of my fics with anyone else who might want them in the unlikely but never impossible case that my fics are no longer available on ao3
making a book of my fic(s) and running your fingers across the pages while lovingly whispering my precioussss
doing these things with anything I create for fandom, such as meta, headcanons, au nonsense like 'texts from the brodinsons,' etc
I am not fine with "the audience"
doing any of the above with the purpose/intent of plagiarizing my work or passing it off as their own in any capacity
feeding my work into ai for any reason whatsoever
Save the fandom things. Preserve the fandom things. Respect the fandom things.
Enjoy the fandom things.

It’s just… it is everything that Cardan thought Jude would notice his “SO OBVIOUS” exile riddle and thinks Jude to not hesitate to come back. Beside his certainty of her cleverness to piece the riddle together, he believed he was that clear about his feelings toward her; he had thought she absolutely ought to know how he feels for her.
Like oh buddy. BUDDY. Your wife had thought of the answer to your little riddle like you thought she would. But guess what? She has detrimental TRUST ISSUES. (Like… Ur super mean and hot, I can’t blame her.) Anyway.. it’s SUPER adorable of him to so wholeheartedly believe she wouldn’t question his trust. It reveals so much about his pov of thier relationship.
Jude thought Cardan’s (silly) trick was a (vile) trick, when it was simply a: “Im trying to impress/pay you back in kind with our romantic metaphorical sparring and eventually get you out of political drama for a bit,” trick.
I’m fucking laughing wow these delusional ass children I fucking love them.

just a little tip for fellow autistics: if a doctor asks “can you do x?” what they really mean is “can you do x without pain?”
Generally, if you just say “yes i can do that” they will assume you can do that thing painlessly and without issue at all times. you need to clarify “i can but it hurts a lot” or “i can only do this sometimes when x and y” etc.
They will also generally assume you won’t do things if they hurt too much, but a lot of us deal with pain very differently than an allistic person might. Even if some pain doesn’t stop you from doing something, you should still tell them you have it, it still “counts.” If you are not visibly (to them) showing signs of pain, they will almost always assume you don’t have any and you need to tell them otherwise.

Being in the aroace spec and a shifter is a strange experience because the only person i'll ever have genuine romantic interest for is in a whole different reality, and i mean ONLY that reality. Noone in this reality, my other DRs, or literally any other reality that doesn't have my beloved person, is ever that interesting to me. The only interest i'l have for them are strictly platonic.
One of my close friends happened to confess their feelings to me, which i unfortunately had to reject (i still feel really bad about it tbh 😭) because i couldn't help but feel like my heart will only ever belong to my s/o, WHO IS IN ANOTHER GODDAMN REALITY. I can never love anyone else besides him and it's too real

i think some of you are forgetting a very important fact
we, the audience, see and know everything. we have all the information.
the characters do not.
and this goes both ways. Hunter, Wrecker, Echo, and Omega don't know Crosshair's side of the story. AND Crosshair doesn't know their side of the story either.
it's very easy for us, holding all the information, to make judgement calls. "they shouldn't have said/done that, they should have said/done this, that was uncalled for, there's more they should say," etc etc etc.
of course if they knew everything we did, they would be saying very different things and acting very differently!! but they can't!! they have limited POVs! they're speaking and acting based only on what they know! please don't forget that

Another Käärijä Research Project
aka: käärijä style-shifting project
as a preface, here are my (non) qualifications for this project and the circumstances under which it happened:
I am a linguistics student, and this past semester I took a course on sociolinguistics. the goal of this project was to become familiar with the concept of and analyze style-shifting (it's more commonly known as code-switching online but theres a difference and this is style-shifting), specifically by analyzing the speech of one person. We had the option to study oprah or to have someone else approved by my prof, so you know I had to ask my prof if I could study jere. This project is solely my intellectual property; even though I had a tutor help me a lot, everything written in this paper and on this post was my work alone.
now, on to the actual findings! the full paper and transcripts will be linked at the end :D
the actual variables (words or sounds) that I studied were the pronunciation of r, and use of the word "the".
to make things a lot easier from the get-go, i'm going to introduce you all to one of my favorite websites, ipachart.com (the international phonetic alphabet [ipa] chart is a big chart with an entry for every sound that exists in a language. this handy dandy website has an audio recording for each one of those sounds).
go to this website, and then scroll down to the table. go to the column labeled "post alveolar" and then click on ɾ and ɹ. those are the sounds i studied in this paper! ɾ is the finnish r and ɹ is the american r :)
so basically what i did to find instances of my variable was i just looked up a bunch of esc interviews and listened out for use of the different r sounds. i also transcribed the entire dinner date live because i love torture apparently :) the specific interviews and lives/stories are in the bibliography of the paper :p
after i transcribed all the interviews and lives/stories i went through and highlighted every instance of the r sound. then i calculated the ratios of ɾ to ɹ based on the context they were spoken in. the two contexts i looked for were formal contexts (sit-down interviews) and informal contexts (literally anything else).
i found that jere uses ɹ WAY more often in formal contexts than he does in informal contexts, and the same in reverse with ɾ.
i then went back to the transcripts and looked for all instances of the word "the". i also looked for instances where i thought it should be present, but was omitted. i calculated the ratio of present vs omitted "the"s in formal vs informal contexts and made some charts.
the graph with the smaller black section is "use of 'the' in formal settings" and the one with the smaller green section is "use of 'the' in informal settings" (the images are transparent, sorry)
i found that jere uses "the" WAY more often when in formal settings! there were also some instances where he added a "the" where it was unnecessary, which is studied at length in this wonderful paper by @alien-girl-21
something i also noticed that i elected not to study because this paper took enough energy on its own was that in formal contexts, whenever the "or" sound came in the middle or at the end of a word, jere wouldn't pronounce the r. it stuck out to me mostly because i heard words like "performance" turning into "perfomance", which i thought was an interesting quirk.
unfortunately i was somewhat limited by both my brainpower and capacity to do more work on this paper in the relatively short timeframe i was given (2 weeks) and the fact that i was given a 5 page MAX for this paper (not including a bibliography). i had a lot of fun doing this though and am definitely planning on studying jere for for academic credit again in the future if given the chance!
also i would like it to be known that i spent an hour searching for that 5 second clip of the urheilucast where jere said that he used to sell kitchens and understands english better than he can speak it.
link to a google drive folder with the actual paper i wrote and the transcripts of the interviews with notation:
please feel free to send me asks and dms with questions or comments about this paper! i absolutely love rambling about linguistics :3!!

Decided to try an N5 and then an N4 listening test just to see if I could at least do those. N5 was easy (which I wasn't expecting for some reason?? I really love to underestimate myself sometimes) and even though I didn't get everything right on the N4 test, I know I've made progress because I actually understood the majority of it and wasn't just guessing based on vibes, which is what I was doing leading up to me taking the N4 before. And I still scored pretty high (definitely high enough to pass).
I'm not where I need to be but I am getting there. I just need to keep going.
