It works out in the end. A special little shout out to Rionaa for getting me hooked on this one and helping me discover Oases. One of the first podficcers in this community I found.

Paradise by the dashboard light. [T] 154k - Oases (Steve/Eddie) Things were weird in Hawkins. The fields were rotting, there was something in the woods, and Steve Harrington's Beemer had a new problem every week.

The most remarkable thing about you standing in the doorway is that its you [E] 34k - greatunironic (Steve/Eddie) Sixteen years after the world didn't end for the last time, Max Mayfield showed up on Steve’s doorstep and said, “You gonna walk me down the aisle in May or what?” Or, it’s 2002 and Steve Harrington attends a wedding, a funeral, and a birth.

He carries Eddie out of the Upside Down, he keeps his heart beating until they get to the hospital. And then the government intervenes, that shady part of the government? With Sullivan? And he and Eddie wind up locked up, together, in a cell. There's one bed, and glass walls, and it turns out that he and Eddie? Might need each other more than either of them thought they might.

What love is [T] 23k - kissesforcas (Steve/Eddie) Steve is incapable of not taking care of the people he cares about. And against all odds, he cares about Eddie. Eddie has never been taken care of. Not like that. Or: Eddie & Steve fall in love, before Christmas but not too fast.

Steve Harrington’s unwilling time loop saga (Series) - badpancake (Steve/Eddie) A series following Steve Harrington as he unknowingly, unwillingly, loops time to save the ones he loves (and maybe realises that he can ask for help, is deserving of love, before, after, and during). 1. The One in Which a Time Loop is Fucking Exhausting. [NA] 41k When anything and everything goes wrong in 1986, Steve realises that he can fix things, and maybe falls in love, along the way. 2. Steve Harrington's Deaths (And The Times He Maybe Saved The World). [NA] 38k After the events of '86, after everything has settled down, and everything is calm, people start to remember. The pieces start to slot together, and nobody likes the picture it creates.

Blooms of the darkest garden [T] 12k - tminuseternity (Steve/Eddie)) Steve is going to die. And because this is Hawkins, a town with an alternate dimension right up its asscrack, he isn't going to die in a normal way. No, instead he's going to die because he can't stop coughing up the most disgusting combination of Upside Down gunk and...flower petals? What the fuck is happening to him?

If I stare too long [E] 191k- Brawls (Brawlite) & Toastranger (Steve/Billy/Eddie) After the end of the world, Billy Hargrove is a mess. But at least he has company.

Paper rings [E] 9k- mediwitch3 (Steve/Billy) Dustin bets Steve he can't get a date for Mike's wedding. AKA the What's Your Number au nobody asked for

Nightcall [T] 6k - pprfaith (Steve&Billy) Billy expects to roll into town and fuck shit up, hurt himself and others, make something bleed. He doesn't expect Stevie Harrington.

We Slip And Slide [NR] 6k - CallieB (Steve/Billy) Pure indulgent post-S3 fluff, including but not limited to the discussed concepts of: - Billy moving in with Joyce - The Jonathan/Billy friendship we all need - Grouchy Hopper - Jonathan and Billy smoking weed together and arguing about music. Because punk and metal are two different things. BUT they unite against Steve’s taste - Robin and Jonathan being excellent wing-persons - Hop and Billy teaming up against Mike to protect El - Shovel talks all round - Robin being clever and eating popcorn - The you rule/you suck board

[For the Fanfic End of the Year Ask Game]

9. Longest WIP of the year

D'you wanna know something? I was honestly surprised by the results of this one. I was 100% certain it was going to be Through a Crack in the Void. It you only count what I posted to Ao3, it stands at 30,587 words, but if you add what I've also posted to Tumblr beyond that, it adds up to a whopping 38,217. That's about half the length of the first Harry Potter book, and it's still sitting near the beginning of its plot. (Which isn't the longest fic in my roster overall, because my Iron Dad Marvel fic is sitting at a over 130k words and, again, it's not even half finished akdjbakbjwkaf.)

HOWEVER, I thought I'd check Domino Effect because - ya know - I started them both around the same time so I was curious.

39,456 words, which means it beats out TaCitV by a meager 1,239 words. Unlike TaCitV it's also sitting in one Google doc, which means I can also tell you that it's 76 pages long and counting. Geez!

24. Favorite fic you read this year

I'm gonna recommend three, because they're all amazing and I can never pick one fic. (And I'm sure you've read at least one of them.) There ARE a few others I contemplated for this, one of which is the Take A Chance On Me AU I've talked about before, and one of which is a DSMP fic where Tommy respawned as a crow...but I'm not gonna bog down this post with a million fic recs lmao.

1) Adaptive Nature by @scribbling-dragon (WIP)

It's an Empires S2 fic (with Team Rancher) that's all told from the POV of The Sheriff. From what I recall he has never once mentioned his name, though we know it's meant to be Jimmy. There are no Minecraft mechanics in this AU to my knowledge, so no respawn, no inventory, and no communicators. But basically - the Sheriff is drawn to some ruins in the mesa beyond the border of the newly-founded Tumble Town. He finds a dragon statue there, is affected by it somehow, and finds himself...changing, though I won't say how here for the sake of spoilers. He also meets and befriends archeologist Pixlriffs, through whom he meets another member of the archeology guild, Tango, both of whom teach the Sheriff about something called "the corruption" that happened centuries ago. (AKA Empires S1) It's so well written, and there are so many mysteries still unsolved! The Sheriff is secretive about his past which he left behind, there's some skulk thing that Pixl is studying, there's something to do with a dragon - dude. Just - if you haven't, go read it. It's stellar.

2) Covet by Oceanbreeze7 @digitalta (WIP)

An AU in which Grian never joined Hermitcraft, but Pearl did. Grian has been missing, presumed dead, ever since Evo. Now - in Season 8 of Hermitcraft - the Boatem crew have broken ground into the void below the Boatem Hole...but the hole isn't as empty as it seems. Something is lurking beneath it, and while at first the shy and elusive creature they've named "Scout" is nothing more than a friendly and gift-giving enigma, he becomes so so much more once they start trying to figure out what exactly their strange guest is. This one is hauntingly beautiful in its writing, with some pretty poetic chapters and some gorgeous imagery. There is body horror in this, so be mindful of that, but - holy moly. It's so so good, with a pretty fantastic balance of angst and fluff and reveals, and - yes. So much yes.

3) To Hoe Where None Have Hoene Before by tablrcloth

Otherwise known as that one fic where Tango and Jimmy try to get all the husbandry achievements in Double Life. It's - guys, it's cute as shit. It's short and sweet, very sweet, and I've reread it like three times. <3

It’s not like Ed thinks they’ve lived in Resembool forever. Mom’s pictures and stories say otherwise, and he sort of remembers living out east, the way you do when you reconstruct a childhood based on stories and photographs. They moved back to Mom’s home town after she got sick—brain sick, not body sick, that happened later—but the bastard stayed behind to work.

2. Dreaming Like Silver, Girl Genius

People don’t like twins. Children should come into the world blank and empty. Their first marks should come from laying across their mother’s breast, and curling a tiny hand around their father’s pinky. There are many reasons given for why: they must let go of their past life, they must devote themselves to their parents above all else, they must possess a new soul. But all agree; twins are unnatural.

3. Faster Than a Final Breath, Girl Genius

Kay’s first date happened a little something like this: he was in Vienna for a day trip, tracking down a particularly troublesome spark who’d made an insultingly awful critique of his thesis paper, when his cab swayed slightly and a woman hurled herself through the window and straight into his lap.

4. A Spoonful of Diamonds, TT/YJ

Raven gripped her rescuer’s arm like a lifeline the whole minute and a half it took to walk to the kitchen, listening desperately to make sure Malchior hadn’t decided to follow them after all. The chef pushed the door open, sending about half the kitchen staff tumbling to the floor as he led Raven in before him. The door swung shut and she finally managed to breathe. One of the waitresses led her over to a little alcove full of serving trays as the staff grilled the chef that had helped her. As soon as her heart slowed to the same pace as her thoughts, she whipped her phone out of her purse and opened her friends’ group chat.

5. Drop a Lifelong Curse On Your Own Last Name, Girl Genius

The average age for soulmate appearances was twelve. The day of Tarvek's birthday, Violetta had tried to stay awake with him, but she ended up falling asleep on his bed while he stared at his wrists, as if his name would appear at the stroke of midnight. It hadn't. He had started wearing cuffs the next day anyway.

6. The Heavy Gait of Night

It was three o’clock in the morning and Agatha was supposed to be in bed. For the first time in a long, long time, the knowe was bright and loud and full of people. Agatha knelt on the tiny lip above the ballroom peeking down at the whirlpool of colors below. No one was likely to look for her up here. The servant’s passage that led here was rarely used, and she was fairly certain that the knowe would hide the entrance for her, since she’d asked it nicely.

7. Lights Out In Babylon, Borderlands 2

When Maya was a child, the monks of the Order told her that her siren powers were a divine gift. They said that their god had created the sirens as his handmaidens, and when he came to bury humanity in endless rains, the sirens would stand by his side and call down the lightning.

8. Paint My Spirit Gold, Girl Genius

Agatha’s oldest soul marks are two patches of bronze underneath her armpits, like someone had scooped her up from behind. Uncle Barry had done so often, before he disappeared and left her with the Clays. In the years afterwards, it always made her smile when she saw them, remembering how he’d throw her up into the air. She didn't remember exactly when or how she’d gotten them, but now she thinks of Lady Vrin’s story—of the Holy Child who was stolen—and wonders.

Long ago in the Land of Whirlpools, there lived a princess with long, red hair that trailed behind her like a samurai’s banner. She was said to be the most beautiful woman in the world, and many warriors and princes traveled to ask for her hand in marriage. They quickly learned that though the princess was very beautiful, she was also very proud, and very strong. Those who were not chased away by her sharp tongue were thrown out with her powerful fists.

In your father’s house, you meet a boy who loves fairy tales, and one in particular. He tells you often the tale of a girl-spark who leaves home to rescue her closest friend, who was stolen away mid-breakthrough. He leans forward, enraptured by his own tale, and says: she searches for a boy who no longer exists.

I suppose the obvious answer is A Flicker of Light (Star Wars), just because I've spent so much time with it, but I'd say a contender is Thirty-Five Years (Top Gun Maverick). I tumbled into an obsession with that movie by accident (I was actually watching a scene as research for a Veronica Mars fic) and absolutely adore the Mav and Rooster relationship. That was my first fic in that fandom and I decided to scare Mav half to death :')

9. What are you most proud of accomplishing in your writing goals this past year?

Writing, on the occasion that I manage it lol

10. What are your writing goals for the upcoming year?

I answered this on a previous ask, but in short I'd like to complete A Flicker of Light and I'm thinking about going back to a fic I haven't posted to since 2015 to see if I can finish it up. I also desperately need to work on my original project: The Phoenix Initiative.

I haven't been on tumblr in a while

So I haven't been using tumble for a while because idk... I've been so busy? I didn't have space on my phone? Because I didn't want to see any of the positive posts about my last relationship? DING DING DING So here's my update to myself and whoever the hell reads this in the form of a shitty list poem that's not even a poem 1) I broke up with Nico because I was unhappy. I'm 23 years old and if I'm unhappy in a relationship. If I'm constantly feeling like crap about myself? If I'm not feeling supported by my partner? Then I'm young and brave enough to know that I deserve better. 2) The man didn't respect my gender identity. 3) When we broke up, I had to cry and beg for him to get out of bed and put clothes on to talk to me. 4) We were arguing about putting more effort into our relationship. He wouldn't even put pants on to talk with me about our relationship. I warned him that he was going to loose me if he didn't show me he cared instead of just saying he loved me. 5) I loved him. I care for him. But I'm never going to love him again. I deserve better. 6) I deserve someone who doesn't make fun of me for getting chatty when I'm nervous. 7) I deserve someone whose jealousy doesn't make me feel isolated and alone. 8) I deserve someone who listens to me vent when I'm upset without telling me that I'm over sensitive. Today’s stories are largely lemony and focus on Usagi’s anime-canon compliant fear of Thunderstorms and how Mamoru helps her deal with it.

This story is a continuation of Nocturne For A Queen (that was part of the Amnesia Fics post), with Usagi reaching out to Mamoru as a last resort when she gets stranded in the storm when a work event goes sideways. Leading to Mamoru to finally admit to a few half-truths.

Not quite a missing scene, more like a scene from MAmoru’s perspective for episode 64, where we see him struggle with his visions and decision to stay away from Usagi.

You Were Good To Me: Chapter 1: A Protector's Heart - Rebekah_Matthews

Darien helps Serena after she takes a tumble in the park, making them both realize that they can do more than argue.

Peaceful Sleep - Makoclb

Mamoru waxes poetic about how much of a difference sleeping next to him made for Usagi and her fears.
