HJ7 ANNIVERSARY!!!

ANYWAYS... I've been on the J&H fandom since July 2020 and it's that one fandom I'm very active on and the most I've ever interacted with the fandom (it's not that much but still). And then I saw that one post that their gonna celebrate this event in which Jelyll has first created and tested HJ7 (All I know is the info I got from the Musical, idk if it's accurate to the book or whatever)

So I decided to draw the three versions of Jekyll and Hyde that I really love, starting with

THE GLASS SCIENTISTS

It's a webcomic made by @arythusa and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! I love the creative way they take the characters and recreate them in this wonderful steampunk world and I absolutely ADORE all the characters! And the way the artstyle is very colorful and just beautiful that I can't help but love this so much, getting really excited for each new update and just, THE CLIFFHANGERS AHHHH. Overall, wonderful comic and I will love this forever and ever and ever and ever!!!

MAZM JEKYLL AND HYDE

The game made by MazM that first introduced me to J&H!!! I played this game cuz I am sucker for mystery and story related games! I remember how much of a burden this is to my storage cuz it's 200+ MB and my phone only holds 8 GB and I can't buy a memory card TwT. Anyways, I LOVE THE ARTSTYLE and I love the way they drew HYDE (I mean, who DOESN'T?!) and I love how accessible this game is to those who can't pay. Sure that was a great amount of ads I have to watch, but it was WORTH IT.

J&H MUSICAL (S. K. MICHELS)

I LOVE THE MUSICAL IN GENERAL. I've only listened to the soundtrack and Confrontation, Alive, I Need To Know, and Bring On The Men HAS TO BE MY ABSOLUTE FAVS <3. And I decided to draw S. K. Michels' version of the characters cuz A) It was the first J&H animatic I've watched and B) I absolutely LOVE them!!! Like I love the artstyle and their character designs (Magically healed eyesight my beloved) and I love how seductive Hyde is in all of this xD. I decided that I use Hyde's color scheme in The World Has Gone Insane animatic cuz yes xD

I hope u don’t mind the direct ask but I am VERY curious about how you, like, interpret Jekyllstein. Like how their dynamic works within the rules and realm of your personal interpretation(s). Whenever you draw them it’s always so pleasant to see and I’m like!!! Left wanting to know more!!!! Ack!!!!!

Oooh!!!! I'm really glad that you've asked because, honestly, I didn't think that I'll find the right time to write a post on this topic!!

First of all, I can't actually tell if there's any kind of particular interpretation i rely on?? Because I have multiple AU's with both of those novels, which I just bring up in my head whenever drawing the ship. I've tried to come up with idea how they met: was it in London during one of Victor's trips to England, was it the thing where they've known each other from college, was there anything to do with Creature?? Idk which one of those can be called "canon" in the main AU, just bc there's too many tropes and I didn't tie them up together.

Their dynamic being at first smth close to "enemies to lovers" is a trope I find quite reasonable, – their personalities are different, they both stick to questionable theories in a field of science, so it'll probably take some time for them to get along! This being a thing makes everything lots funnier in the "college classmates" AU, especially if there's a project on which they're supposed to work together. They also feel like those dudes who walk into the same room and everyone immediately stop talking for a second, just because you can feel the tension risen 2x times with all of your being.

Also fun thing with Jekyll in this interpretation is a fact that he's a mix of two, – musical and novel, – Jekylls. He takes more to his personality from the musical one, bc I just love!! His vibes here, like, him being socialite, young man, who's relying on his friends, sometimes attending dinners and formal balls. But all this musical thing with him being "pure" and doing experiments "in the name of science" didn't stick with me, so that's the part where bratty "aight, feeling kinda funny, but I'm a nobleman. might mix hj7, idk" comes in.

I hope that this post clears up some of the things!! >:D

What was the au where Jekylls pushed down the stairs and experiences a skull crackening again? Oh well but I've been thinking of a branch of that where Jekyll doesn't know hes dead like all day. I also cant remember if that was already discussed or not

The lodgers patch him up, he complains of a headache, and goes on his merry way! He's confused why all the lodgers are so nervous and being nice to him all of the sudden, why creature is looking at him with a stange mix of empathy and pity. He was told he fell down the stairs, fell unconscious, and obtained a bit of an injury. He cant fathom why Frankenstein is "The only doctor who can treat him" why he has to constantly go to her for checkups. Why Maijabi is suddenly following him practically everywhere.

Hyde squeezes back control for a moment and tries the potion but it doesn't work. Maybe a bit of pain but certainly no transformation. Jekyll assumes his injury or whatever medication they're giving him to treat it somehow negated the effects

Jekyll complains about "suddenly blacking out" the lodgers know its because his soul is slippery. They tell him it must just be a side effect of the injury and not to worry

How long can they keep it secret from him? When does he find out? Does he? Does it get to be years only for him to realize that he hasn't aged? That he still needs checkups from Frankenstein? Does he learn sooner? Does a lodger crack and say it? Does he rot? Does he notice how so very cold he is. How animals act around him? It's all very interesting,,

I actually did think a bit of Jekyll's kidnappers for the amnesia kidnapping au! When drawing that lil sketch of Henry and O'Leary meeting Robert I had considered making it so O'Leary was suspicious of Lanyon like "Oh theres no news anywhere of someone matching Thomas' description who's missing. But some random people walk up claiming to know him? Begging to take him back with them?" And he'd think they were the kidnappers. But ultimately I decided against it as I felt Lanyon and Rachel were pretty clearly, genuinely concerned for "Thomas" :p

I tried playing assassins creed once, the first(?) one. But the controls were confusing and everything was sorta thrown all at me at once, and I got bored of it quickly

But! I went to the store the other day and just so happened to notice Syndicate was being sold for 15 dollars 👀 So I bought it because funky Victorian assassins and your influence! It's a bit less confusing then the first ac game I tried but why is going down or dropping so hard bdksnks. I'm having quite a bit of fun! If you dont count my rage and annoyance-, the B button refuses to cooperate with me unless I'm looting corpses >:(

The b button being the bane of my existence aside, I AM having fun! I like the funky outfits and I want to play as the girl twin (evie?) forever because her clothes are good and shes better at attacking than jacob(?) For some reason. Probably the stun her weapon has? Oh well! I have not unlocked any new outfits yet, nonetheless I wish there were more.

Also! I was thimking, and my current quests are taking place at 1868? Did I get that right? And Jekyll is like 35 in 1885. So in game he'd be 18! An au like I believe you mentioned sounds very interesting 👀 but I must play more to know what's going on and daydream about it

But god, I really like that branch! Especially combined with the hc that he can't feel pain bc the HJ7 and the transformations made him immune. Frankenstein patched him up and made fleshweaver to heal the crack in his skull but it still has to be bandaged, he surely broke a few bones, yet all he has to do is to be careful because it doesn't even hurt. He doesn't even realize how severe the injuries are because it doesn't hurt, it very well might just have been that he accidentally slipped at the bottom of the staircase and accidentally hit his head on the railing during his fall, rather than getting physically pushed and flying down the stairs, shattering his skull upon impact with the marble floor. Y'know what would be extra fun? If he only starts getting a bit suspicious about how severe the injury was once he realizes his lungs stop breathing for minutes at a time when he gets distracted, or his heartbeat stops dead in his chest. I know that that's not how biology or even creature works but lets say the HJ7 is funky, Zombie Jekyll my beloved. Perhaps he would only fully grasp what had happened once he blacked out too much and 'passed out', but his soul slipped out enough to leave his body unconscious on the floor while his soul/ghost was just... Watching. And it's not until Maijabi (who, as you said, follows him everywhere) immediately calls for more Lodgers saying that Henry's soul is getting unstable and Frankenstein's lousy job is starting to shine through that he fully understands that it was not a mere hit to the head. Or maybe it is when days, weeks, maybe months has passed and the headache never goes away, he only feels how his body starts feeling so much more... Fragile and delicate, that the guilt has eaten Helsby up alive and he corners him and spills everything, knowing he is going directly against what the group agreed to but not being able to keep it a secret much longer-- or maybe Creature would tell him immediately, once Henry is, for once, alone perhaps days after the initial accident. He cannot see Henry struggle to understand what is going on when he already knows what's happening to Henry, his mind, and his body. He doesn't listen to the plan that Frankenstein and the Lodgers has set up and immediately tells Henry the first moment they are alone. That would certainly be horrifying, I can only imagine how the Lodgers would find Henry after that, once he actually knows and manages to process everything. He would be so mad, not only to have been killed in the first place, but also because he was robbed of an afterlife because the Lodgers were selfish and could not accept the consequences of their actions. He would be mad, he would be so pissed and I have no doubt he might actually be mad at Maijabi too for even agreeing to help Frankenstein and the rest of the Lodgers. That anger would not stay long, though. That anger would soon turn into misery and sadness and paranoia so even as Henry has tried to push Maijabi away, Henry still ends up on his doorstep begging him to help him make sure he is not rotting, because no matter what anyone says, he is sure he can see rotten spots and patches on his skin and he is just so scared and jdhfjsdfdsfsfs... <3

Ooooooohhh, I was actually daydreaming about this just this morning! Granted, I woke up at 5 and began to daydream to fall asleep quicker but I still like the thought of O'Leary being suspicious of Robert/Rachel/Jasper/the Lodgers bc he is protective of 'Thomas' and doesn't want anything bad to happen to him and especially with the idea that Henry still has hallucinations and they both think he was abandoned by his family, left to rot at a mental asylum. O'Leary might very well think that it might be Henry's friends and family that dumped him that Henry had 'escaped' the hospital and that's why they knew he was missing since the Asylum itself obviously wouldn't have posted the news... I really liked Jeks idea, okay? Like a lot, I absolutely love it <3

Oh, the oldest AC game I played was Unity bc it was free after the Notre Dame fire, and I can confirm, I played 15 min and could not get through it even if i would have wanted to, it absolutely sucks so i have no doubt the older games are just as frustrating <3

BUT!!!! I'M SO GLAD MY CORRUPTION IS SPREADING AND YOU BOUGHT AND PLAYED IT AND ARE ENJOYING IT SO FAR!!! Trust me, Syndicate truly is an absolutely amazing game and is definitely one of my top 3 games of all time. I sometimes play it w my friend watching me play and trust me, I know that rage of trying to do smt but the character does smt else... or you try to do smt but the game doesn't react and you miss your chance... Oh well, still a wonderful game <3

My friend loves to play as Evie as well but I'm definitely playing Jacob every chance I get and I honestly get a lil pissy when I have to play as Evie bc I always prefer to play male characters, plus, I just like Jacob better bc he is a sweetheart. He is also canonically bisexual as hell!!! Have you met Abberline yet? The police officer? Him and Jacob together is one of my fave ships for the game. I also bought the ultimate/golden/whatever name it was edition so I had a bunch of extra outfits, I love the sherlock holmes outfit for Jacob but my friend keeps bullying me for it </3

Honestly? The time difference is the bane of my entire idea for the au bc if it's during their time Henry hasn't even graduated yet, and definitely not well-known enough for them to actively meet for whatever reason, and if you use the timeline for the jack the ripper dlc (in 1888) a lot of... Less than pleasant things happen so it wouldn't really make a lot of sense for a crossover to happen at that point but maybe it's just bc im a pussy and refuse to play the dlc. Rn, while imagining the au, I just imagine the 1868 timeline to be the same as the TGS timeline. I like to imagine the Frye Twins hearing about Henry and the Society and promptly breaking into his office to ask him to make poison and stuff for them. I also have a feeling that Jacob would flirt wildly with Henry and that Henry would be less-than-amused. It would also be a very fun thing with the fact that there would be two Henrys, with TGS Henry Jekyll and AC Syndicate Henry Green, soo... XD

Excited to get to this ask!! Werewolf AU was requested in a previous ask, but I chose the Siren AU prompt instead so I could save my Werewolf AU for this one!

Well.. maybe more of a Wolf Children AU??

Jekyll is a maned wolf (my favourite of the doggos uwu I love their long leggys and big ol' ears) and Hyde is a bush dog, the closest living relative to the maned wolf!! It's really fitting, since maned wolves are long, elegant, and bizarre

And bush dogs are small, feisty, and aggressive

Jekyll is the son of a werewolf and a human, making him a Lupus (I know, uncreative TwT), which can turn into a wolf at will at any moment. He never learnt how to control it, and struggles everyday to keep calm and not shift into a wolf or wolf features (the scene from Wolf Children where Yuki is freaking out, repeating "Gotta stay a little girl all the way home, GOTTA stay a little girl all the way home!" is basically Jekyll's entire life). He started trying to 'cure' himself, but since he's naturally born this way, potions like Wolfsbane or any other werewolf centred medicine have no use for him. So, he turned to experimentation.

Hyde was created due to a failure in HJ7, which was intended to seperate his wolf half from his human half. No one in the Society knows Jekyll/Hyde are Lupuses, especially since in this AU, Lupuses aren't technically allowed to exist, considered too dangerous and unpredictable. So, yeah, Jekyll's life is a living hell like in the comic with the added bonus of struggling with his identity and not turning into a werewolf everytime he feels an Emotion.

The mad scientist

The city altea, floating in the cosmos was once great, now it laid in ruins. There were rumors of someone living in it still. But that was only rumors. Rumors from the mouths of those who suffer from what had come to be known as Quintessence madness. The location of the city had been lost after so long, but a ship had stumbled upon it. They decided to explore and what they found could be considered a scientific breakthrough or a nightmare. They found holograms of the altean scientist Kuro who had been captured by the galra. When he had returned he wasnt the same.  He’d developed an obsession with quintessence.

The first hologram started with him in his lab. “September 13, 11:56 pm.” he stepped into the frame “I have started this alone and i must finish it alone. There is no longer a choice, i know that i know that i must use myself as the subject of the experiment…..no there is no choice” he sighed. “I must put aside the fears I feel inside….There's no place to hide...So it comes to this. One last final chance for me to take. Now everything I've fought for is at stake. Like a warning light, glimmering in red Like crimson bloodshed, shimmering in red...Beautiful and strange, see the colors change before my eyes See how they dance and they sparkle like diamonds at night Leading out of the darkness and into the light”

“11:58 PM. I have consumed 10 centiliters of formula HJ7. Salty, bitter taste. Stings the tongue. Warm in the gullet. Heat spreading strongly through my veins. A slight feeling of euphoria. Lightheadedness. No noticeable behavioral differences….i must be wise i must try to analyze each change in me…..” suddenly the hologram cut out

The next hologram turned on “...there we are, cant have you shutting off this time…..My God! What's this?Something is happening I can't explain….Something inside me A breathtaking pain

Devours and consumes me And drives me insane!....Suddenly…..Uncontrolled…..Something is Taking hold! Suddenly Agony! Filling me! Killing me?...Suddenly Out of breath! What is this? Is this death?! Suddenly Look at me! Can it be?” his appearance had changed. His hair had turned black and his eyes yellow, his markings were gone. “

“September 14th. 5:00 am. This is a strange, new, sweet sensation. I am younger. lighter, happier in body and soul - twice as alive and tenfold more wicked - which intoxicates and delights me like wine - adding fearful new hardships to my desperate battle for success.” he said happily before turning the hologram off

“September 20th. 10:50 am. The experiments are now in their second week. The transformations are beyond imagining. Unspeakable nightmares besiege my senses. The most racking pains, and a horror of the spirit that exceeds all dreams of death.”

“September 25th. 8:00 pm. I have radically altered the balance of the formula, to contain and overcome the powerful and darker forces at work inside me. I am aware of my peril, and the need to control it’s evil influence, which disappears within me like a stain of breath upon a mirror. it has found the perfect hiding place…” he paused to think “What streak of madness lies inside of me? What is the truth my fears conceal? What evil force makes it of me? What darker side of me does this reveal? Am I the man that I appear to be?

Or am I someone I don't know? Is there some monster drawing near to me? Becoming clear to see? Will what I fear to be be so? What is this strange obsession That's tearing me apart? Some strange deranged expression Of what's in my heart? This is a deadly game I have to win! This is a fight I dare not lose! I have an adversary steeped in sin. Who wages war within In ways I can't begin to use…” he turned the hologram off

There was nothing on record for months after that. The hologram started with kuro having a converstaion with someone, they looked like coran. “This is not the man i knew, there's something deeply troubling you! How long do you plan to hide away here? This increasing isolation only adds to your frustraion!” Kuro responded, turning his back “Coran i dont need you to turn on me as well….more than ever now i need a freind. Cant you see? And dont yuou know? Ive been through hell, dont condem what you dont comprehend.” Coran replied to him “kuro im not questioning your motives here! But, is what you are seeking worth the price? You’ve turned your back on everything you once held dear, your choosing to ignore your freinds advice.” coran reached out for him “you have your work and nothing more, you are possessed, what is your demon? Youve never been this way before, you lost the fire you built your dream on!” coran set his hand on kuro’s shoulder “theres something strange, theres something wrong. i see a change it’s like when love dies. I who have known you for so long, i see the pain in your eyes. There was a time, you lived your life as very few did. You had a plan, you saw your life as very few did. You had it all, the over all. You seemed to know what to live for, now it seems you dont at all…..you have your work nothing more.” Kuro stood silent for a moment “have i become my work and nothing more?i know thats not what im living for….” the hologram ended.

The last hologram listed started. The room was a disaster and kuro was on the floor. He looked tired. “The world has gone insane And parasites are eating at my brain And nothing is the way it was before A pack of wolves is howling at my door I'm living in a non-stop nightmare Deadmen's dreams filled with screaming pain Hurling me to mad extremes In a world that's gone insane The world has lost its head And every evil hour is filled with dread I'm floating on a lake, but upside-down And when I try to breathe I start to drown I cannot speak as nameless ghosts and faceless ghouls Bid me join the dead! No one tells these gruesome fools That the world has lost its head! Fiendish creatures leave their graves to taunt me! Old friends risen from the dead to haunt me! Godforsaken images that daunt me Drowning in an endless flood of blood! The world has lost its mind! And everywhere I turn I fear I'll find Some nightmare even worse than those I see Satanic demons closing in on me How can it be that even though they see my fright Everyone is blind! I present, from my new Lanyon drinks the potion AU (working on the name), Robert Lanyon and his HJ7 Alter ego!

Anyways!!! I've settled on the first name Elias, bc I feel like Henry would help name him and Elias is a letter off from Alias (which means a fake/pen name), so I thought that'd be funny :3 still working on the last name tho.

Yes, that is Hyde's vest that Elias is wearing. Henry gave it to him on his first night alive after clearing everything up with him and Robert about what just happened to him. Since he's near Hyde's size, Jekyll decided that he needed some clothes, at least temporarily, but Elias refuses to give it back now, despite having his own clothes. Why? Because Henry gave it to him, and he loves Henry so much. it's also Hyde's vest, who's part of Henry, so by proxy he's gotta love him too, right? How could he hate any part of Henry?

Unlike Hyde, Elias isn't some self-proclaimed evil incarnate. He's very easy to read emotionally and is very honest to everyone around him. He's very open about his feelings, which are generally very quick to change, especially towards those he cares most about (*cough* JekyllandHyde *cough*-) and he strives for praise. He likes accomplishing things and has more of a liking for "sciency stuff", he also recalls most of the doctor things that Lanyon learned from university and isn't deterred by gross things and blood. He shares hyde's wanderlust and will run around town with him, though Elias prefers parks and nature over the slums of London, and he also enjoys the rooftops.

Timeline wise, Lanyon accidentally drinks the potion after all the blackfog and queen Lucy stuff, when they "kidnap" Hyde. Specifically, it happens right before Jekyll dumps all the HJ7 down the drain- like, right before. Lanyon kinda interrupts him doing that. Henry reenters the room in the middle of Lanyon's transformation, so he's there when Elias kinda "wakes up".

Anyways, please please PLEASE ask me questions about him, I'd love to answer them :3 also, I'm currently working on a fic for this!! The first chapter is almost done I think, I just need time to actually sit down and write.

Also jejvkekkvke character design is SO HARD, shout out to people who do it all the time. Also apologies if the skin looks off in any way, I've never really used colored pencils to color any characters, much less any colored characters, so I kinda had to figure it out as I went lmao.

4) One random headcanon of mine (that I'm pretty sure is common) is that due to Hyde, if Jekyll were to go into a state of adrenaline he could absolutely lift like something well beyond what a human should be capable of. Just an absolute huge boost of strength

5) Do you think j&h bones are super stong or super weak? One one hand your 'bones grow back stonger' but on the other. They're breaking them everywhere everyday. I feel thatd make em rather weak

Can I just start off by saying that I like that I can always count on you to ask me something when I make 'ask me' posts? You're wonderful x3

1) All of them. I can draw 1 and 1.5 expressions, either being sheer indifference/mild annoyance or a grin. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm not very good at drawing and I try to get better at expressions but... Expressions are so hard. I have no idea how you do expressions so good honestly, but I would say the hardest is like... Very exaggerated faces? Sad, mad, happy... Especially sad, they look so weird when I draw them sdfsd

2) OooooooOoOohhh.. Collin would be a centaur for certain, or basically any other humanoid/animal creature since I made him an animal lover and a horse breeder (although that might be up for change, I'm thinking of revamping the chars sooner or later)

Hmm... I have mentioned (in between the lines of 1 post. that was) that Abigail would, at some point, maybe become a banshee, mostly because the heartbreak of losing her son, being in love with a man she can't have plus the fact that Douglas is more or less borderline abusive (and considering the fact that Douglas might or might not have had a hand in her death, I'm still debating that point), and banshees are seen as a good creature too, warning people of their or a loved one's death. Either a banshee or a forest nymph, perhaps? Maybe a selkie?

Lastly, Douglas... Werewolf, maybe? A werebear, perhaps? Some kind of bear/wolf monster at the very least, something generally aggressive and capable of great destruction/murder if left unattended. Douglas a... Shitty dude, to say the least. He does not like people and he could not give less of a shit if he hurt people around him, and while werewolves generally are remorseful for the pain they cause and the fate they lead, he... Would not care. Have I mentioned he is a very bad dude?

3) Random Hc of mine... Hmmm... The hc I can think of right now is either A, Henry can no longer feel pain after the HJX potions and his body regrows and regenerates quite quickly, basically like a lizard, so he could chop his hand off and be perfectly fine, just needing to... Well, use some potions to regrow it. Mostly because I like the idea of Brokenshire and the Scotland yard, or sponsors, interrupting an tired Henry who just wants to get his work done but they refuse to leave him alone, so he carries on with his experiments and just... Chops his hand off without flinching, much to the horror of whoever is watching him, or B, that literally everyone (except, of course, for the older peeps like Cantilupe, Maijabi and Sir. Danvers/Lanyon) has had a crush on Henry at some point. All the Lodgers his age? Half the Scotland yard? He is a sought after man, as shown during An Army Of Nightmares, and to be fair, I'm sure he would have been able to make some question their sexuality... More than once.

4) Oooh, I have actually not seen a lot of that hc! I knew it existed but I wasn't sure if it was common or... Half canon at this point because everyone just has accepted it already. I think it makes sense and is a really good one! Anyone, under a specific set of adrenaline, can get crazy strong in life threatening situations, but perhaps Jekyll's strength or necessary amount of adrenaline got altered with the help of the HJ7? this is a very interesting hc!

5) Man... On one hand, I love the angst, and I love to have like... Frail, sick, weak characters because --as a writer-- they are fun to toy with, which is also why I hc/made Collin have some kind of longlasting illness that makes it hard for him to have a normal work, but also makes him need to wear that scarf most of the time. However, as per my previous hc, I do feel like they would be stronger-- Perhaps not because they get broken every night but instead because the HJ7 physically alters their body to make way for the two different life forms. I like (and have basically accepted it as canon) the hc you got/made that, if Henry lost a finger, it would grow back on Hyde and Henry would have it when he turned back again (the teeth post, I believe? I'm not sure if that was the specific conclusion you came to but I digress), so, I do believe it's a bit up for interpretation and the context? It would make a good baseline for an sickfic story, but also a comedy fic because Henry just... Cannot get wounded... At all. Unsatisfactory answer? Most likely but sdfsdjfhs
