Edward Teach Meta - Remember Edward Hasn't Always Been a Muppet...

...and honestly he's still just mostly faking it.

I see a lot of posts about the whole dichotomy of Ed vs Blackbeard, and - because I live in the Izzy Hands tag for this show - a lot of it takes a very... simplistic (?) approach. Mostly along the lines of Ed is a traumatized real guy who just wants love and softness while Blackbeard is the violent persona he puts up because he thinks he has to (and Izzy makes the situation worse with a fixation on a fake person).

This... does not really make sense to me. For one, if we're going to acknowledge "Blackbeard" is a persona then we should probably acknowledge "Ed" is equally fake. The dichotomy is two wildly different masks, and the same real Edward is behind them both. And I want to talk about that guy.

1. Why did you choose your url?

I was about 12 years old when I created the account. CrispyWizardTale sounded cool to me back then and gotta admit I still love it.

2.Any sideblogs? - If you have them, name them and why do you have them

I might have another one on one of my other email accounts, but i honestly don't remember.

3.How long have you been on tumblr?

I actually don't remember. I think it was like 2012-2013 when I was in high school. Funny enough, I saw my friend using it, so I made one as well. Ended up not using it all after that... I returned to it after my other friend started sending links to me and when I returned, I was already in BL world, so I started doing gifsets and here I am.

4.Do you have a queue tag?

I do not, I actually don't even know what it is I just come here post my gifsets and look around a bit that's it. I use it only on the day I post something I don't really explore it.

5.Why did you start your blog in the first place

As I mentioned before, my friend used it, so I used it, but now I use it for gifsets I make.

6.Why did you choose your icon/pff?

My friends know it, actually. I am a huge fan of lions. I love them so much they are my favorite animal. I use a lion photo on every single one of my social media (that I use often) it's a different photo but it's a lion nonetheless.

7.Why did you choose your header?

I got a new phone it's Samsung Galaxy S24 with the AI feature and Pon actually dropped that photo and I was obsessed with it. I was so obsessed with it, so I played around with the AI feature and tried to enhance the quality it worked. I also found cool colorings that enhanced different parts of the photo.

8.What’s your post with the most notes?

I searched for it 767 notes on a post of Phaya overpowering Tharn in The Sign... I mean, yeah, I get it because that was a hot fight, but I never expected it to be that high. I also had a heart attack because I thought that Middleman's Love NC scene was gonna be first.

9.How many mutuals do you have?

I have 2 of them because I don't really follow any blogs. I actually follow only 5 blogs. 2 of them are huge FortPeat accounts and 2 are TutorYim accounts that are quite active so I followed them.

I’m making this with no anger or frustration left. I am genuinely sad. You could say to the point of hurting. And honestly, the way I’m treated as not just some content creator, but as an actual human being behind a computer screen - I AM hurting.

I was just looking through my notifications as usual and randomly came across a fellow The Lost Boys fan...

Be warned, this is very screenshots heavy.

I noticed they were using one of my gifs from THIS gifset as their header.

I’m making it no secret, that when I randomly come across these things, I always politely DM (or send it via ask) the person and ask them to take it down, since I do not allow my edits to be used in any way (see my bio) apart of the basic appropriate Tumblr functions. I feel like I have to be clear - I am no “huntsman” and so I do not purposely go on and “hunt” people who use my edits without my permission. I only politely, without any aggression intended, message them to let them know about my T.O.U. whenever I randomly come across situations like these. And that’s what I did.

Now, I did not screenshot the very moment I sent this person a DM, but the screenshot above was made partly out of habit to have proof in case they try to “play me” (speaking from experience, sadly) and also partly to have a quicker “note” of the person’s username to message them later, because I didn’t text them immediately. I was busy, so I did a few hours later.

Now here’s the thing.

They did not text me back, which is fine. But a few hours later I did check and see they were online. A few more hours later, they did what I took as an unspoken answer and was genuinely thankful for - they changed their header from my gif to some kind of image (I believe it was a photo of Michael and David). All is fixed and done, no hard feelings (at least from my part). Right..?

Just a side note, but I found it weird at the time, that they also deleted their reblog of my Star gifset (as you can see in the screenshot above). But what followed next makes me now think, in a bitterly humorous way, that they did it to “disassociate themselves from my blog”.

While DMing my own friend through Tumblr app, I decided that I should probably clean out my DMs and in turn delete this “conversation” as well, since all is fixed and there’s no point in keeping it. But then I noticed something.

They turned off their DMs. Okay, that’s maybe a bit weird. But then I went to their profile...

And let me just say, the whiplash I got from all this............ Do I even need to explain what’s wrong here?

And in case anyone’s not aware of how much “blood, sweat and tears” it took to colour a gifset like this one from two years ago, here’s an original, in no way edited screenshot of this scene from the movie:

Why did they do a 360 degree turn around is beyond my comprehension. When they changed that first Marko gif to a photo, their description was still the old one, their DMs were still on, etc... I am honestly confused.

And since this person turned off their DMs and sending a message via ask from my side is pointless, reaching out to them again via public post by tagging them will surely result in them blocking me. Which I don’t know if I should take as a good or a bad thing, at this point.

Let me end this by saying that, as I am finishing to write this, I feel like I no longer care if this person keeps that butchered Marko gif of mine as their header. What hurts me the most is what they wrote in their description, stating the “truth” and in a way mocking my attempts of politely reaching out to them.

To all original artists, be it writers, gif makers or people who draw: I genuinely wish you all to have the least possible amount of encounters with fellow fandom people, who steal your passionate hard-work and claim as their own. 💔

not sure exactly what this means, but in terms of social impact stuff i think everyone interacts with important issues in their own way. i feel that it’s important to be informed on what’s going on in the world but it’s also important to get information from trusted sources and take real, meaningful action in a way that feels comfortable and appropriate for you. i also don’t think it’s anyone’s place to tell anyone else what to share on their own page. hopefully that makes sense lol.

Because I am a fangirl who loves a lot of things. I had many sideblogs and then made this as an everything blog... but I’ve since made more sideblogs. 🤦‍♀️ I need a time out.

OMG so long... This blog is apparently 9 years old. WTF.  I did not know that. Now I’m questioning why I’m still here. I’ve been sucked in. Send help. My original main is over 11 years old...clearly I need help or time out.

Nope. I’m too lazy for that. 

5. Why did you start your blog in the first place?

I love fandoms. I love creating and enjoying other people’s creations. My IRL friends do not so I found new friends with similar interests. I also love getting lost in the blackhole that is tumblr.

Dancing Zemo is my jam! It is one of my favorite commissions.

The Falcon Captain America & The Winter Soldier White Wolf is my favorite thing currently. As is my sweet Zemo. I’m absolutely in love with the cute cheeb images I commissioned from the talented @weetlebeetle so I had to make them my icon and header

this is such a fun idea! i go more into gifmaking this year during quarantine and such so this should be fun!

1. wondertrev gifset: I really love this quote for them and this is the first gifset I used the gradient text on. I also spent a lot of time of the coloring and really like it. 

2. pansexual david rose gifset: oh, I love this set so much. it took me forever and was the first time I’ve done coloring like this, but I absolutely adore it 

3. joenicky soulmate gifset: ugh this one honestly makes me so happy and it’s for my comfort ship? I like the soft coloring and love the typography 

4: wondertrev au gifset: I am incredibly proud of this gifset. it took quite a while as to find all the scenes to use and try to match coloring and merge them together, but I really loved how it turned out.

5. diana prince icons: these are my favorite icons I’ve ever made, I simple adore the coloring and adore them

currently do not have one! couldn't find one that i really liked to fit with the theme, and i just love pink and thought it looked cute with my icon 💓

TIME.), a hilarious scene from the addams family (i absolutely love that movie they're so funny), and this gifset of ICONIC cinema speed with angel hotties keanu reeves and sandra bullock!! so! those are fun 😙

Ages and I mean AGES ago on my old blog. It was a themed blog for Death Note the anime. It was around the time Yuri on Ice was coming out (so like late 2016) and I was really excited about it and was reblogging some gifsets. I didn't tag spoilers which was absolutely my bad. Someone got upset that I had spoiled that weeks episode for them in an Ask, which I apologized for, but they went on to say that I shouldn't have been posting ANY YOI content at all bc I was a Death Note blog and that I was "deceiving my followers" and wasn't delivering on what they followed me for. I kindly told them that it was MY blog and that I was sorry but if I wasn't a good enough DN blog for them then they should unfollow me. They said they would but they sent all these asks anonymously so I never really knew who it was.

If I'm being quite honest they really spike my anxiety sometimes and I always feel guilty scrolling past.

So the absolute sweetest @blodreina-noumou tagged me to do this positivity meme that is about choosing your five favourite mutuals in the fandom and giving them all the love. I’m all for it, but five??? How am I supposed to leave it at that?

I mean since she was the one who tagged me, I’m perfectly within my right to talk about Steph. She appeared at the time when this fandom was basically drowning in Octavia hate and for some time I felt so lost because it seemed like I was the only person in the 100 fandom not only not hating her guts, but also trying to defend her. I kept posting positivity about Octavia and getting hate in response, but then Steph started reblogging my stuff and I was like, wait... There are people who love her, just like I do. I followed her, and it’s been amazing every since. She’s a very private person and tends to stay out of any fandom brawls, but she’s very good at just... being there for people, you know? So many times I would be having one of those moment when I just hated my life, and I’d post something about it not expecting anyone to read or care, and Steph would suddenly come out and say something that, if not necessarily fixing things, pushes me along on the path. And that’s what matters, doesn’t it? Someone who helps you make small steps through every day. Steph is an amazing person, and she has such an insight in people and characters, it’s wonderful. I think that’s what makes all her metas so good. Sweetie, thank you so much for following me and for being in this fandom. It would not be the same without you. <3

I honestly have so much love and respect for Linda. She is in a lot of fandoms, and she’s never caught up in any drama or negativity. She’s a very quiet, private and absolutely talented person, whose gifsets are something our fandom doesn’t deserve. Just when I started making gifs about a year ago, her edits were what I aspired mine to look like just because they’re so, so beautiful. I mean, if you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know that I use her gifs for my headers more than anyone else’s. Also, fun fact, but just when I started giffing, I had no idea how tags worked, so I looked at Linda’s tagging system and basically adopted it (sorry Linda lol). Go follow her, she produces such amazing content, our fandom is blessed to have her. <3

I think Mira will always take a special place in my heart because she was one of the very first people I spoke to in this fandom. I believe I had about 90 followers at the time, and I messaged her to tell her that her tags were hilarious because she would always not only tag them purposefully to systematise content, but also add her reactions and it made things so much better. Mira is also one of those people who will see or hear you say some small detail about yourself once and remember it, and then randomly bring it up in the conversation. She just cares about people and remembers. She’s one of the most unassuming people I know because she will give you advice on the things that bother you and won’t push for anything more than you’re prepared to give in that moment. And sometimes that’s the best we can do for others. Just be there for them. And I honestly think no one produces more content for our fandom (mainly Bellarke as well) than Mira does, for which, sweetie, thank you so much because there were so many moments when I just thought there was no more hope for Bellarke, but then I’d see one of your gifsets and feel better. Really, thank you, I’m so happy to know you!

The story behind why Emily followed me is funny. Apparently, she was so frustrated with Zaven because she just wasn’t feeling it and it seemed to her like literally no one else was shipping Murven, so she purposefully searched in the anti zaven tag and found me. So that’s when she followed me. And I remember I followed her because she had this cute icon from Anne With an E, and I’d been reading her fics for like two years before that, but it never clicked that she was the person writing them hahah.

Emily is an amazing person. She’s so warm and sweet and understanding, and she’s one of those people who will go out of their way to do something if you ask them to. Her fanfics basically got me through the hiatus. I always joke with her that she has this talent to make you feel second hand embarrassment like no one else does, and I stand by those words because she’s just that talented. She can portray a situation in a way that you feel so involved you want to die of embarrassment when the character is embarrassed, and it’s a beautiful thing! Please go check out her fics, I promise you, you will not regret it. My absolute favourite of all time (Emily is probably sick of hearing about it by now lmao) is Smoke Break, which, do yourself a favour and go read right now please!!

Luna is someone about whom I should talk a lot more because she’s become such a vital part of my life and my fandom experience that it’s crazy. Luna is someone who never gives up on people, for better or for worse. She’s probably one of the most loyal people I know, and if there’s something I respect and love and appreciate, it’s loyalty. She helped me get through one of the toughest moments in my life by being completely calm while I was panicking and having pretty much a mental breakdown, giving me invaluable advice and just being there for me. Thank you so much for that, sweetie, I will never forget it.

She is also such a positive person. She probably won’t admit this to save her life, but she has so much love and hope for this world and people in general. She’s open to everyone, absolutely loving and sweet and understanding. 

Her edits are beautiful because she’s so talented but also puts an incredible amount of effort in. She has such strong opinions that she is unapologetic about because she cares about people and stands up for them.

Basic Kpop Gif Tutorial

Hello! So, an anon asked me if it was possible to post a gif tutorial the way I do mine. Something about them looking beautiful, which I’m still thankful people find them like that. I apologize for the wait, dear anon. I had finals, plus taking care of a family member who just had surgery. But I hope you like it! And remember, this is just my way of doing it. Make sure that when you do begin, that it’s all about fun! Be creative and try new things :D. Also, it’s nice to have a support system which I have in a few of my mutuals. They gave me their support and guidance through it. I wanted to give up but I didn’t because I wanted to improve. So, here it is! 

So, for starters, I began with downloading vapoursynth for MAC, but I know they have avisynth for PC’s. It depends on what you use. Here is where you can get either. I’ve been told it needs patience when downloading, and it did. lol. Just along to the instructions and you’ll do just fine.

There is another way to follow along once you’ve downloaded. These mini-tutorials helped me a lot. Because who would have thought that it mattered whether the file was TS or whether it comes from Youtube. (I was a fool, guys). Here are the mini tutorials you can use as guidance. Honestly, it explains it more thoroughly than I could ever do.

Now, this is where I can finally demonstrate how I do my gifs. After I finally selected, like the tutorial, I just place where in the video I want to gif. Try to make it less than 3 seconds. More than that might not be enough to stay under the 3.0mb Tumblr’s guidelines required for gifs.

Once that happens, the program will lead you to this screen:

Then based on the Tumblr gif guidelines it depends on however big you want to make your gif. I was beginning to do Kyungsoo’s birthday post which I would need 9 gifs being 177 x (however big you want it) I chose 350. But make sure the middle ones are always 178 x ###, it’s just the rules lol. 

I set it like this because it’s worked so far and it makes my gifs really nice, but again, feel free to experiment and see what works for you.

This will be on the right side of the screen after you’ve made the selections on the left side of it. Once you’re satisfied you highlight all of that and place it under portion which will finally encode your video. 

So, you have to place it between the lines 22 and 25 just because it works that way and I placed #60fps on the end of line 22 because that will give you more frames and you’ll have more that you can work with. It’ll look like this: 

I just placed what I created with selections in the previous screen in the spaces I’ve said they’re needed in. Once that, you have to check your code to see if it’s good for the system to encode and you didn’t miss something you forgot to highlight. 

After checking it and seeing it successful, then that’s when you want to go under ‘Script’ again and ‘Encode video’

A screen will pop up, after that happens make sure under the ‘Header’ option, you click ‘Y4M’ and then click ‘Start’

Once the encoding is done you have to go to your ‘Output’ folder which is where your encoded video will be. 

You’ll open Photoshop, I use PS6. And then you’ll do File > Import > Video Frames into Layers. 

Now once there is where you’ll finally be able to start your gifing process but not before you finally choose where you want to begin your gif and you want it to end. 

Make sure you do limit to ever 2 frames. Why? Because it’s easier and I’ve always been told this when gifing. 

I select all of my frames and have it display under 0.05 seconds just because to me it looks really nice and isn’t as slow or fast. But some others do 0.03. It all depends on how you want your gif to look. It isn’t about comparison. After that is done, you can finally begin playing around with the features. 

Me, being a lazy ass I just used a PSD I saved from my last gifset of Suho lolol. I wanted to see first if it’ll look nice with the new gif I was trying to edit. Once it did instantly, I was satisfied XD. Again, don’t be like me. lol. I sometimes just tweak a few things here and there depending on the gif until it looks great. 

The end result is this: 

I really really REALLY hope I was able to help you, dear anon. Or anyone in general. Even I’m still learning on how to make wonderful gifs. Some of my mutuals are outstanding but it’s best not to compare yourself to anyone. Of course, sometimes you wonder if you should even gif a performance or scenes other people have done so, but to be honest, you should do it because you want to.
