OMG hiiii haha I'm so glad you remember me :D I just finished watching Black Sails last night and I'm having emotions. I mean, I knew a bunch of spoilers because the show's 5 years old and also I'm just bad at not getting spoiled, but damn. That was a roller coaster. What do you think about the ending? Tbh Anne, Jack and Max were my faves, so I'm happy for them, but idk how to feel about Flint and John. There's more than one possibility here... 1) John lied and he killed Flint (ouch) who reunited with Thomas in the afterlife (ouch), 2) John told the truth, he didn't kill Flint, and now he's... Stuck at a prison camp? Forever? What? I'm glad he found Thomas but. How's that... The good thing they think it is? Idk I'm having a hard time thinking of prisoners forced to work as a good thing, regardless of how nice their boss is. I mean ngl I still cried a bit with the ending but now that some hours have passed I'm... Confusion haha. What do you think? 👀 Also who was your favourite character? Who did you hate the most? XD

Oh gosh I'm SO SORRY that this reply is coming so late!!!! For some reason Tumblr ate the notification and I never saw the ask D: I love the ending with my whole heart tbh! I was so so happy that Jack, Anne and Max got to heal and Max is finally able to live up to her full potential. I've heard the afterlife theory thrown around a couple of times but I personally choose option 2 (as far as I know, that's also the one the writers/actors prefer). And I think Thomas and James broke out very quickly hahahaha, there's no way they'd stay cooped up there forever, especially not Flint 😂. I like to think that they recovered some of the treasure and made a quiet life for themselves somewhere. Toby Stephens has joked before that they went back to London and opened a Fish & Chips shop hahahhaha. I still absolutely bawl my eyes out whenever I watch that reunion scene.

I love pretty much everyone in this show, but my number 1 character was probably Miranda. She's INCREDIBLE and with every rewatch I love her more. Of course I also adore Flint and I have a very very soft spot for Vane, especially end of Season 2/Season 3 Vane. Most hated is undoubtedly Woodes Rogers, he can get in the BIN!

the first character i ever fell in love with: I fell in strong like with Silver in his very introduction (not to mention I was already a Long John Silver fan), but in love-love, it was Max in 1x03, when she rebuffed Eleanor's help. I was transfixed.

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: n/a. If anything I went the other way around with Eleanor, from being wary of her to outright loving her now. Also yes, I still like Billy xD

favorite episode: LITERALLY every episode I watched of season 4 had me going "no, THIS is my fave episode" ñalkdsfaf. All of s4 could be here, and I particularly love the series finale.

saddest death: Miranda's. That other one in season 3 too (although I found both fitting narratively. The one in s4 as well, you know what I'm talking about), but I don't want to say the name because another friend is watching now and I don't want to spoil her lol.

favorite season: season 4 BUT season 3 is my comfort season lol. I had to ~process each episode in s4 because they gave me psyche damage lol, while season 3 was increasingly high screams of "MY HEART <333" (given some of the tragic shit that happens in s3, this might say something about me lmao).

least favorite season: I still love them but it's true season 1 is not up to the same ~blacksailsicity and that s2 is at times too... not slow, but paused? The rhythim stops to a halt sometimes. Which isn't necessarily bad, but it's not s3-4, yk.

You just finished season 1!!! What do you think of it so far?! ahskshs I can’t wait until you watch season 2, it’s one of my favorite seasons. (also who are your favorite characters so far? 👀👀)

I have finished season one! I am both very confused and way too invested in this show. Everyone’s pasts are being revealed piece by piece, and it’s so confusing but intriguing that I can’t look away. Do I know what their goals are? No. Do I want them to get them? Yes. Everyone’s so intense in this story and I’m pretty sure that counts for 80% of my interest right now. Like goddamn, I don’t know what you want and neither do you but that’s not stopping you from barrelling ahead and I respect that.

Max is my darling, my favourite, my beloved, and I want only the best things for her. Silver has grown on me an alarming amount, considering I spent the entire first few episodes side-eyeing him. His bluntness is definitely an endearing factor for me; every time he’s like “don’t look at me, I just want to stay alive here” I start laughing because it is waaaay too relatable. He’s literally me in a DnD campaign. The chaos is unparalleled, the style is immaculate, the long-term consequences are ignored. My man keeps digging himself into deeper and deeper holes and it’s kind of hilarious to watch.

Flint is… my man’s a mess, tbh. I’m somehow both impressed and appalled by him, and I’m also heavily invested in him getting everything he wants. I was actually trying to explain this to a friend, and the best way I could find—and this is going to sound really odd but bear with me— was to compare him to those clips from video games where a car rockets off the tracks, flies through the air, crashes through ten different things, flips, and lands on its wheels and keeps driving as if nothing has happened. Like, that’s the vibe! That’s Flint! He somehow keeps pulling things off, and I have no clue how he does it but it’s very impressive. Like, this is simultaneously the luckiest and unluckiest man I’ve seen in my life. He’s thinking ten steps ahead while also flying by the seat of his pants. If nothing else, his sheer audacity commands respect. Crew mutinying? Lie. Friend suspicious? Lie. Get called out for lying? You guessed it—lie some more! I take back what I said about Silver digging himself into holes—Flint is definitely the champion of hole-digging. But he also seems to be the champion of unlikely solutions, so maybe it’ll even out. Either way, he’s definitely a touch unhinged and I love it. Go feral, king.

I haven’t really gotten attached to Jack Rackham and Anne Bonny yet. I mostly want to fix his hair, to be honest. And Anne getting to stab the rest of their crew for abusing Max was very therapeutic. I swing wildly between rooting for Charles Vane and wanting him to keel over and die, so I’ll let you know when I’ve reached a conclusion. I don’t really have an opinion on Eleanor Guthrie, because I respect her ambition, but she also hurt Max early on, which soured my opinion of her. On the other hand, not doing that would have stood in the way of Flint finding the location for the Urca, which I also couldn’t abide, so… Jury’s out on her and Vane, but I am certain that those two deserve each other. Not sure whether I mean that in a good or a bad way, yet. We’ll see how we go.

My first favourite character was actually Gates. His competency and bromance with Flint gave me life, and then… well… we saw how that ended. I almost cried. Also, Billy. Billy was a favourite. Why do they keep killing my faves? I’d like to register a complaint.

It took me a month but I finished season 3 of Black Sails!!! Not that in any way it was bad, but I've been having a hard time and this show has offered me the little comfort I can have, so I both want to make it last, and my brain isn't letting me consume too much for too long

But I'm not here to talk about myself, but about this show, and let's start with I miss Miranda so much!!!! The visions were beautifully done, I love how the show explores the weight of grief, how it can become part of you and consume you - I think the team of grief is a big reason why the show has come to help me so much. Also can I also say the show has the most terrifying portrayal of Death that I've seen

Also let's talk about John Silver!!! I LOVE him so much now (not close to faves but good), he's so good!!! Both with his looks - he really looks very attractive with the beard and hair - but also the darkness in him and his scenes and power are just something else!!! He and Madi (she's definitely a fave) are adorable and I LOVE them so much and I'm so excited for them to kiss in s4 and to see them develop, because I know it will be beautiful. Then also the tension between Flint and Silver - the way they become full on partners, they're next to each other, they're each other's person - their relationship is just so GOOD!!!!

MADI!!!! She's incredible!!! She and her mom are incredible!!! I LOVE the power they hold in the Maroon Camp, how they're listened to, but also how Madi wants more, how she finds in Flint and Silver an alternative, the chance for the world to see her, for her to have freedom. I LOVE their fight against civilization!!! And I LOVE to see the motives from her and James' motives as well - the contrast between them but align their fight

Also knowing Billy Bones is gonna go dark in s4, the end of season 3 for him is absolutely incredible!!! I LOVE the power of words and image coming to play, and him becoming a pamphlet maker!!!

Now I also really missed Anne and Max this season... to see them apart, but also Max's worry and trying to keep her safe. And also always knowing that keeping Jack safe is part of keeping Anne safe - these three keep being amazing and so complicated between them!!!

Still on Max, her and Eleanor back in the place, I was reminded of how good they are!!! That's such an interesting dynamic and I love how the show didn't forget even after keeping them apart for most of s2... And then the pain of Eleanor and Charles as well - his death was so well done, and I LOVE how the show doesn't shy away from the love Jack Rackman, Anne Bonny and Blackbeard have for him - to see them fight for him (just like James does for Thomas and Miranda!!!) - this show and its parallels!!!!

Can I also shout out Idelle and Featherstone?!! I could take them or leave them before, but now, I freaking love them so much!!!! I LOVE their power, and how they deal behind the scenes, and this strange partnership they've found!!! They're extraordinary!!!!

Truly this show is incredible!!! It's beautiful first of all, beautiful places and beautiful action pieces. But most important is so character driven, the relationships matter the most, and in such a dark and violent show, love, friendship, family and the desire for a better and more just world still matter so much - they don't only matter but these are the things leading the story (and the darkness itself)

(Also finished season 3 just in time, because my HBO free trial is ending next week. Season 4 is on netflix, so I don't have to worry, I'll take the time to rewatch Miranda scenes once again :) )

Ummm if we're talking canon, he's obviously out to Thomas and Miranda, which pretty much happened at the dinner scene lol, kissing a dude = not straight. But obviously being outed to Alfred and Hennessey was an extremely traumatic experience for him so he very much keeps it on the DL in Nassau and spreads rumours to the contrary (Miranda being his puritan wife) and only comes out to people he absolutely thinks he can trust/deserve to know the truth (Silver, obviously, but I think he would also come out to Eleanor especially once he figures out she's bi too). Post Thomas reunion I think he'd be quietly defiant about it so while he's not exactly running around like "I'm gay and Thomas is my husband", if someone sees him and Thomas sharing a moment of affection or questions them living together, well, James is intimidating enough that they don't face many issues because of it. the first character I ever fell in love with: the first character that had “oh yeah, I’m gonna like this one” was Silver in his first moments, with the whole “so what if I’m a coward/I’m a great cook” stunt. But love with capital L, that was Max refusing Eleanor’s help at the end of 1x03.

a character that I used to love/like, but now do not: none, really. I mean, I’m fond of early seasons Billy and not so much of s4 Billy lol (it’s the beard smh), but I still love him as a character and think he made some points xD

the character i least understand

- i'm going to say season one max, who, as they pointed out on hoist the colors, is explicitly lampshaded as being opaque. but honestly it's kind of just bad writing. the show couldn't justify why she would make that choice and they don't even try

- also eleanor from late s3 on. flint shouldn't have needed to lie to her in the end; she should've known what rogers was capable of

interactions i enjoyed the most (this should possibly be answered generally but i chose to do it specifically ok? okay!)

- the twin "you heard him"s where silver and then flint backed each other up with the men

- "if it makes you feel any better, i haven't thought of killing you in months"

- flint pretending he doesn't want to rip on silver for how he handled the men and silver sighing as he looks away "if you've got something to say, just fucking say it" then silver's hilariously bitchy response when flint said he was lying about why he did what he did. "oh? then why don't you tell me why i did it" married bickering!

- max to jack "get your fucking house in order"

- max's ~~~LOOK~~~ when jack acted like the idea of anne being motivated by wanting to bang her was preposterous

the character who scares me the most

- hornigold is one of the most virulently hateful characters in the show, but he had, like, pirate old guard cred so his misogyny was acceptable. until he joined up with the english he was an ally to the protags

the character who is mostly like me

- silver, absolutely silver. except for the cool parts

- idelle, hands down. she's like an anthropomorphized painting

- silver is so new to the concept of loyalty that he thinks it makes perfect sense to transfer it from one body to another--from the crew to flint, from flint to madi. honey, you can choose a new Person (tm) without fucking over everyone else in the world. it happens every day!

List 10 different female faves from 10 different fandoms, then tag 10 people! no particular order bc they’re different fandoms and also i have this weird complex around ranking people

1. Brienne of Tarth (ASOIAF) - perfect. flawless. not here for femininity all the better a character for it. Living her truth. Inspirational. A badass and has great comedic timing. What more could you ask for? No I do not know what happened to her in the last season of GOT.

2. Miranda Barlow (Black Sails) - a female character with a complex inner life??? I mean, Black Sails has so many to choose from, but I really think she’s interesting for her role as someone who was loved by two people who were the absolute love of each other’s life, and also (bonus) Max in her relationship with Ann and Jack is perhaps a foil or set up for a comparison between the two triads (and when did we last get two triads in a piece of media, with their own complexities??). Plus! She spends a lot of time being a character in her own right aside from her role as an oppositional force and erstwhile conscience for Flint.

3. Leia Organa (Star Wars) - Leia is a fucking badass and also a really interesting character! especially in the most recent trilogy, even if they fumbled the ending. She gets her happily ever after and then we see her later and honestly, in most of the ways that matter, she failed!!! Her happily-ever-after fell apart. How wild is that! But she is not A Failure she’s just a human who tried and learned that she couldn’t fix everything, but damn, she was going to keep on trying.

4. Tara Knowles (Sons of Anarchy) - this is Not a Great Show but it has the bones of a great show. Tara is such an interesting character and she’s SO angry and it’s beautiful. She has all this furious energy pent-up inside of her and also no matter what she does, she’s always a little bit of an outsider. She is both from Charming and not of Charming, because she could have gotten out. Who amongst us didn’t have a toxic teen relationship? Relatable. Incredibly morally ambiguous and I love it.

5. Rose Tyler - honestly I will fight anyone who says even one (1) bad thing about Rose. She is brave, and clever, and working class (even poor) and written in such a way that you cannot ignore this fact about her! She is not posh, she didn’t go to uni, she’s utterly ordinary and absolutely unique and worthy of love and who among us didn’t need to hear that in high school, amirite? 

6. Lydia Martin - I never try to write Lydia in Teen Wolf fic because even fictionally she intimidates me. Teen media when I was a kid would have never had a smart, popular, attractive math genius who simply got to be a character. She’s not nice and that’s ok! I also stopped watching teen wolf a long time ago so if some shit went down with her character later on we will just Ignore It. 

7. Basira Hussain (The Magnus Archives) - I love her. I love every woman in this entire show and there are so many to choose from, but Basira gets to make the most glorious mistakes, as a character, and has moments of incredible hypocrisy that I find fascinating. And she’s in love with Daisy Tonner and the way that love manifests for them both is ALSO so interesting. All cops are bastards and Basira does not even dispute that characterization, if anything she leans in.

8. Angharad "Harry" Crewe (The Blue Sword) - is there a Blue Sword fandom? There is now, I’m making it happen. This girl is who I literally modeled myself after as a kid. She’s a little tomboyish, a little weird, not quite conventionally attractive, and she gets magic??? and she’s funny? and she does what she feels is right even if it means her maybe-boyfriend will break up with her, or banish her? It’s a story about finding home with a people you never knew were yours and like Maybe There Is Some Resonance With My Life or whatever but man, she’s also just an excellent character. 

9. Mickle/Queen Augusta (The Westmark Trilogy) - once again I have to ask, is there a Westmark Trilogy fandom or am I inventing it? She honestly had the best of both worlds; raised as a princess, lost her memory and got to go gallivanting around, leads a whole-ass rebellion, falls in love with a pretty writer (slash potential war criminal??? he definitely has Grade School-Appropriate Trauma™️) who fought for her and then they’re also pro-democracy? I love it. I love her. I love how much they care about each other and also about justice and Doing The Right Thing for The People.

10. Furiosa (Mad Max Fury Road) - This movie was about Furiosa, first of all. (also as an aside? the visual language and storytelling was unparalleled.) This is an incredible character and I love her evolution over the course of the film. We get to see so many ways to be a woman and I love that! She has such trauma and she holds it in her own way - not the way we might be conditioned by media to think of. She is an action hero that usually only boys or unrealistically pretty girls get to be, but she’s not conventionally pretty while she’s doing it. Beyond just her physical heroism and bravery, though, she saves the wives and acts as emotional support, a first-level deprogramming, and how often do we get to see that kind of salvation playing out at multiple levels and then they get to save her in return? I’m crying now
