He was so foolish, to believe that he could try and befriend someone new, and that things would be fine. How could he have done this to Eloise? Sebastian had long started to believe that he, too, was also cursed: somehow everyone and everything he touched turned to ashes and he couldn't bear to see the insidious tentacles of...whatever this was reaching out to wrap around Eloise as well.

Hadn't he done enough damage already? And yet...

He couldn't let go of his hold on her body, hoping against hope that he could do something to help her. He slowly turned her body around so that she was facing him, hands reaching up to cradle her pale cheeks as he whispered feverishly: please please you can't die please Eloise please it's going to be fine...

“What are you doing?” Eddie chuckles as Buck sneaks up to him, gently combing his fingers through his hair.

“Hmm, what?” Buck traces his eyes back to Eddie’s face, a teasing expression written across it.

“That” Eddie gestures towards Buck’s hand still buried in his hair and Buck’s cheeks flash red and he makes a move to retract it but Eddie stops him.

“Didn’t tell you that you should stop, I was just wondering what was happening” Eddie says, his hands making their way onto Buck’s hips, drawing him a little closer.

A soft exhale leaves Buck’s mouth as Eddie’s warm hands grab ahold of him and he decides to test the waters. It had been two weeks since their first kiss and Buck would lying if he said that he hadn’t thought about just ripping Eddie’s clothes off and getting on his knees for him on the spot. He tugs lightly at Eddie’s hair and Eddie’s head almost instantly follows. And so does a low moan that Eddie does his best to play off as nothing.

Oh, so he likes it when I do that, Buck notes.

Once he’s a little bit more sure in his actions, he spreads his fingers to get a bit more of Eddie’s hair in between them and tugs a bit harder.

Another moan comes from Eddie and soon they’re chest to chest, Eddie’s cheeks a perfect shade of rosy pink and his pupils slightly dilated.

“This is good” A playful smile spreads Buck’s face as he realizes that right now, he’s in control. And with that notion, he holds onto Eddie’s hair and guides the two of them backwards until Eddie’s body is pressed up against the counter.

“Why?” Eddie breathes out, slightly embarrassed how little it has taken to get him riled up. It’s literally just hair but it’s the way that Buck is taking control of the situation, taking control of him.

The smirk that follows is beyond telling and soon Eddie’s feet loses contact with the ground as Buck effortlessly hoists him up on the counter, his strong hands giving his hips a little squeeze. “Because, Eds, you never give up control for anyone. Not even me but now…” Buck’s hand travels from Eddie’s hip and back into his hair, this time tugging Eddie’s head backwards and exposing his neck.

“I’ve got you right where I want you and there’s nothing you can do about it” Buck murmurs against Eddie’s ear before he leans back, admiring the work of art in front of him. And admiring the slightly thicker, grey strands of hair mixed in with the chocolate brown.

“And I’m loving every single moment of getting to see you like this”

It’s wild how shipping culture has changed so drastically over time on the internet.

In the old days people shipped characters who either had only one line of dialogue with each other, never even met, or not even from the same piece of media. It was the wild west and sure some ships were uncomfortable but people had the mindset to just block the tag and stay away from ships they didn’t enjoy.

Nowadays? It’s more like people have to clarify that their ship isn’t canon compliant, character adjacent, and story irrelevant otherwise they get a flood of comments saying “but this character isn’t like this in canon” and some people legitimately get angry if you’re not following the canon.

Like- shipping and fandom culture from what I understand it is about engaging with media in a way that caters to you. And if you don’t like a ship or show just… block the relevant tags and don’t engage in the ships? The internet isn’t supposed to cater to us- we have to cater ourselves to our internet environment. And no matter how many times people may harass others over a fandom or ship they don’t like, those ships are not gonna disappear.

The internet has just been getting worse when people have decided to place morality in their opinions by saying things like “if you enjoy the ship then you support (insert horrible thing here that’s usually completely unrelated to the ship itself)” when it used to be “eh, not my thing” and people just moved on.

And for the record this isn’t about a specific ship or anything- just an observation of how fandom has evolved (and regressed) over the years and I find it fascinating from a sociological perspective cause we still don’t know how having the internet from birth affects the development of kids and how that affects how they interact with others- isn’t that scary?

I know that’s slightly unrelated but the way people engage in media has been changing over they years and that also involves fandom and the maturity level thereof in the internet space and someone smarter than me could probably write a whole thesis paper about fandom culture and how the internet has hindered the social development of people and how that affects community specifically from a fandom lens.

Just- for your sanity younger internet children: it’s not worth harassing others over something as trivial as ‘it’s not canon that this character kisses another character.’ Just find ships you like. Block ships you don’t. And just enjoy your time doing what you like!

You can’t control the internet but you can nurture your little corner of it.
