you sit up at your desk with a start, head hitting the lamp that you had so thoughtfully adjusted to be right above earlier in the evening. as you check the alarm clock, it's.. 2.59 a.m. already?! shit.. the last you remembered it was barely 10.00 p.m. and you had just gotten ready for a "super intense cram session", to be able get at least a little ahead in preparations for your finals.

that totally worked out well huh?

as your still sluggish mind slowly catches up, you notice a shawl wrapped over your shoulders.. and that candle you'd lit had been blown out as well. hmm.

your suspicions are easily confirmed when you notice a little yellow piece of paper stuck to the wall with a simple "you got this ^^ ♡" on it.

before you're fully able to let yourself swoon at the thoughtfulness of your roommate - it would honestly not be an overstatement when you question how much of a saint you must've been in your past life to be graced with a roommate like him - you hear a concerning clatter from the kitchen which makes you immediately rush towards the source of the sound.

and there stands sungchan, scrambling around the drawers looking for something.. the puddle of steaming brown liquid, coffee probably, indicates that his search is most likely for a dishcloth.

you move up behind his now bent figure as he rummages through the lower drawers, as carefully as you can to pull out one and dangle it in front of him teasingly, "looking for something~?"

"i could've sworn that was not there before?? dude are you sure you're not some kind of sorceress in disguise looking to prey on pretty boys like me?" your close proximity doesn't seem to affect him in the slightest; you however very much are affected. which obviously means you'll yet again hide behind a safe fool proof technique : a teasing remark.

"pfft- is that the best you could come up with? rather basic, no? you need to up your game seriously - when i first moved in, didn't you accuse me of being an evil horticulturist because i got you flowers?"

"hey no you see that was totally valid and besides the jury is still considering that possibility"

"the jury?"

"mhm, the people who said they'll get back to me on r/horticulture."

you have to laugh at this but as you accept your defeat you flick sungchan's forehead slightly, and roll your eyes at his exaggerated whine.

the dishcloth in your hand suddenly brings you back to earth, you know, as compared to how rather over the moon you feel in his company, "wait catch me up on what happened here?"

"ah.. i was making you coffee. i don't support caffeine at uh 3 am usually but i know you really wanted to get done with some of those worksheets of yours so.."

there he goes being all thoughtful again. god sometimes you really don't even know how to form coherent replies when he shows his care for you so, so unabashedly.

"right yeah.. i appreciate that. but you really don't have to sungchan-"

he doesn’t have to. doesn’t have to make you coffee, doesn’t have to stay up for company when you’re pulling all-nighters, doesn’t have to cuddle with you during your pirated show binges, doesn’t have to hold your hand during late night grocery store runs, doesn’t have to share his mint-choco chip ice-cream, his favorite, with you when your spicy ramen starts getting a little too spicy, doesn’t have to comfort you when everything, everyone gets too overwhelming.

“i know. i’m not doing this because i have to - i want to do this for you… is there a problem with that?”

yes, you want to say, yes there is. he’s making you feel emotions you’ve only ever read about in webtoons and fanfictions, and you’re scared of that. you’re terrified of that. “feelings” never lead to a good outcome unless they’re overly romanticized in various media; and this is definitely not a romance novel; nor is this a kdrama. “feelings” lead to vulnerability, to rawness, to your heart being completely exposed, because it’s undeniable that the defenses you’ve worked to set up around it all your life will break down in a single instance, if he asked it of you. you know that.

“..no. of course not.”

sungchan’s face lights up with one of his trademark smiles then, as he directs you back to your room assuring you that he’ll be “right there with your coffee madam <3”

you’re unwilling to leave but you’re also unwilling to stay. you make your way to your desk, mind still a jumble of complicated thoughts, all revolving around him. it’s genuinely shocking how, despite having been in your life for such a short period of time, he’s somehow wedged himself completely and truly in your mind and heart.

“what’s on your mind hmm?” you find yourself in a similar position to merely 7 minutes ago in the kitchen, except this time it’s him with his arms moving around you to place your coffee mug on the table, diligent in taking care to avoid your laptop and notebooks.

“nothing much,” another safe, noncommittal response to hide behind, “feel kinda sleepy, still.”

“well, caffeine to the rescue!! but i would definitely suggest getting a few hours of rest.” he still hasn’t moved, his arms now resting on the wood, as he slightly tilts his head to look at you.

for once you decide to let yourself bask in the safety and comfort he exudes, overthinking and complications can, with all due respect, fuck themselves. “thank you, sungchan.” you’re unable to add in the ‘for everything’ so you can only hope he understands. you reach forward for the coffee, nose wrinkling slightly at noticing how hot it is.

and then. he leans in slightly till you can see your reflection in his warm, mocha-coloured eyes and inside you it’s as if 2 separate beings are desperately fighting for attention; one adamant on backing away as far as possible because it’s safe but the other yearning to pull him even closer. both beings are unfortunately unable to come to a conclusion, forcing you to rigidly stay fixed, not unlike a statue.

his voice is barely above a whisper when he goes, with all the devotion and affection you’d imagined in the gazes of every fictional crush you’ve ever had, “you drool when you sleep. it’s really cute.”

a gentle kiss to the tip of your nose and then he’s gone with some sort of a pleasantry but you’d be damned if you could remember even a word of it.

you blink. once, twice.

change of plans, then : instead of studying, you might need to pull out your softest, most sound absorbent pillow and scream into it, “jung sungchan. fuck. you.”

So I binge read the webtoon Nevermore not too long ago, and I didn’t see the comments I read mention this, so I’m gonna let out my hypothesis on here. I believe that Lenore caused the death of Annabel Lee and died too

So, we know that Annabel Lee died at her own wedding, but when she transformed into her spectre form she looked like she got shot from behind. But, for her to be a lady in white, it had to be from someone she loved (Lenore, her father, a suitor?)

Lenore had a gun in her suitcase, meaning that it was important to her (probs bc it killed them both) and it had no bullets left. Was it full at some point? We’re other people killed? Anyway, Annabel Lee showed up at nevermore before Lenore did, with Lenore following soon after.

Now a few of my hypotheses (two are more likely, and the last one is probably not so, but I like to think they were close to a happy ending)

I) Annabel Lee had a suitor and so she and Lenore were coming up with a plot that was supposed to end with them running away after the wedding and it went horribly wrong. Someone (likely a dad of theirs) found out and shot them both with a gun that Lenore had acquired at some point?

II) Lenore shot both of them. The two of them knew they couldn’t get Annabel Lee out of a suitor situation and they said, “screw it, let’s die together.” With Lenore taking both of them out. But, we’re this the case, would Annabel Lee be able to transform into a white lady if she had known what was to happen? What about the rest of the bullets? Idk, I just thought maybe they wanted to die together if there was no other way. I also get the feeling that Lenore did kill Annabel Lee?

III) Annabel Lee was having a wedding, and Lenore at some point had stolen a gun from someone (father?). They figured something was going on (gay) and took Lenore’s gun (probs Annabel’s dad) and shot them both since Lenore was probably at the wedding. But then Lenore wouldn’t have any attachment to the gun? Why would you get your murder weapon in the suitcase unless you were handling it?

IV) The two of them were having a secret wedding (I thought this bc Lenore is the only female character wearing pants that I could see, so I figured maybe at the wedding they tried to pass off Lenore as a man). And someone’s dad found out and used the gun to kill them both. This is less likely, bc it could just be character design, but the haircut looks like a man’s in the revolutionary period-ish as well, so maybe at some point she WAS trying to pass as a man? But I also don’t know how to tie in the gun other than maybe she somehow took it and emptied it on someone before she got shot. Anyhow, I just like to think that they were gonna have a wedding lmao, maybe mixed with some of the other hypotheses.

What I think was somehow involved: Lenore shot somebody, whether it was Annabel Lee or someone’s dad. They for sure died close in time to each other, probs not more than 10 minutes (in which chaotic and traumatic shit may have occurred). I think Lenore was dressed as a man at some point (even if the clothes were a character design thing, the hair sells me on it). The Dad’s in some way. A suitor that Annabel Lee doesn’t want to marry.

Ji-eon is jobless and apartment hunting. During her tenure as a cashier(among other jobs), a customer paid with a doll…What? Turns out this doll has the ability to control famous Korean actor Doyun Nam. After applying to be an extra on set, she runs into *drumroll please….Doyun Nam. He mistakes her for an assistant and orders her around, she loses her spot as a film extra and is sent home. Ji-eon goes home that day calculating how much she spent. Pissed, she takes it out on the poor doll.

Excerpt from episode one:

Ji-eon shook the Minji doll aggressively, “How dare you make me work for free?! Get on your knees and beg for forgiveness!! I can’t believe you didn’t offer me one of the coffees! I bought them with my own money! Lick my toes you ungrateful jerk!” She continued, letting out stress in a healthy way.

Out of nowhere her doorbell rings. It must be the landlady coming to complain about the noise level. She opened the door and lo behold, the centre of her frustrations kneeled at her doorstep, bowing.

“Why- Why am i- …Sorry!! I’m so sorry! Please forgive me!!!!”

“HUH?!”

Our Thoughts ?

A great binge read now that it’s complete. The character’s had unique personalities and evident flaws which added to their development, Doyun’s overcoming of his anxiety (although that could have been handled better), Ji-eon’s little display of selfishness when he got the opportunity to go abroad and Se-in’s overall lack of social abilities and empathy (to an extent). The progression of the relationship seemed realistic as all characters faced relatable problems for the everyday worker and though they had some…frustrating arcs, and classic miscommunications/misunderstandings (Good lord there were so many) and lack of communication, the eventual resolutions were satisfying.

It was a little disappointing Se-in didn’t find love, the author cleared that up in the afterword so I wish him luck in his love life, but they could have at least have given the man a cat though. On the other hand, I’m so glad Sahye, Doyun’s obsessive ex didn’t get a redemption arc. After what she put Mcs and the guy who liked her through, it didn’t make sense to redeem her because her wrong-doings were purely out of selfish motives. For that, I applaud the creators because it’s common to see characters get redemption arcs or happy endings they didn't deserve.

It was nice to see that Ji-eon finally got a job that she enjoyed instead of relying solely on Doyun for income, it helps bring a little more balance to their relationship.

One thing that took away from the story however was the ending which we thought was rather unsatisfactory. They’re engaged so why didn’t we see a wedding? It might be a bit early in their engagement but a time skip isn't that hard… Even though the spin-offs cleared up some things, readers  (us) were deprived of a wedding scene. We could have at least gotten wedding attire in the afterword :(

nooooo garden of the dead flowers is daily pass now??? back when i first started binging it it wasnt so i just read it normally. thats rather inconvenient for new readers but i hope you still enjoy the story !!!

i knooowww :( and the thing is i only heard of the webtoon like somewhere mid to late last year when it probably already completed its run by then. it’s honestly making me regret i didn’t find out about it sooner because i know for a fact i would love reading this webtoon from what i’ve seen so far, i’m considering Juna or Catharina being my faves especially with how they interact with Mila! and i’m interested in how Wim’s story unfolds and how that will affect the future. overall i’m really disappointed it’s a daily pass because i would love to read the story over and over again once i’m finished, though i understand if that’s what the creator of the comic wants since i know that creating webtoons are a piece of work. i’ll be sure to try and post some fanart for this because i’m super invested in the story :D

Belial would probably hate to be a fly.

Imagine Truck kun appearing out of nowhere and isekaing(?) him. Dude doesn’t want to die of course, he still has people to fu- anyways. He gets reincarnated into a fly and some wordless being tells him that he has to fight a bunch of bosses (all insects of some kind) and win if he wants to return to his world.

And the thing he has to do this before 15-30 days hits cause flies don’t live that long.

Then the final boss is this huge locust, and it’s his 14th day trying to survive, if he fails now then he dies. If he runs away then there’s a high chance of dying.

So he charges at the locust and has absolutely no idea what’s happening. He’s s fighting for his life and trying his best to dodge all the attacks, it’s unclear if he’ll make it out alive. So he activates his Ult (cause why not) and his little fly body moves on its own. He has no control over it anymore and he’s exhausted and bada bing bada boom he wakes up and is somehow back to his world. Did he win? Did he lose? Well there’s only one person who might know the answer to that.

the thing is that technically you're right, everything makes sense with his character and the most obscure lore from this blog, but at the same time it's so specific and off the walls that i can only read it like

10 Anti LO Asks

1. Maybe i'm just old but I remember a big part of fandom used to be lovingly shitting on whatever we liked, because yeah we could enjoy it but also call out what was bad about it like rational human beings. The fact LO stans refuse to even flirt with the idea of any sort of non-praise only discussion is just like??? Is this a cult??? Over a stupid webtoon?? Even the most obsessive PJO fans aren't this argo about it. It's really off putting.

2. ya know I get LO is rachel trying to ~push back~ against centuries of christianity warping how we see the greek gods but I didn't think that would mean her being against the christian teachings that slavery is born of sin and rich people are literally evil who will never get to heaven, like?? ma'am???

3. Even though I’m not reading LO anymore, I got to say I liked RS’s old artstyle. It was unique and easy on the eyes.

4. Homer calls Eris a daughter of Zeus and Hera over the usual Nyx and/or Erebus, so RS isn't technically wrong in this case (and tbh it could be an interesting comment on how marriage between them is full of discord) but I think the bigger issue with this in LO is she is only there to demonize Hera and Zeus' marriage and to be a scapegoat to Persephone's bad actions, even though everyone was fully fine to accept she could be multifaceted. Eris is just an excuse to pin blame on over anything else.

5. why did persephone pick then of all times to attack apollo 😭 i woulda stepped back n let him either get hurt by eris or let eris die… like i get pers hates him and he’s dangerous but so is eris ? home girl gave u WRATH 

6. I see some defend LO's dragged pacing as "when you binge it all at once it makes sense!" which like 1) it doesn't? a lot is still just bad writing but 2) a large issue of it too is that so much of it is just dragging out episodes that could have been done in half the time and/or could be cut entirely, which IMHO is bigger issue. There's so many elements in it (Eros and Psyche, Hera, Leto, Kronos, etc) that just add nothing, which makes it even more dragged out when it takes up most of the time.

7. It's honestly kind of telling the "anti" community is the only place to have nuanced talks about LO, make AUs, different opinions, and make fan content that isn't 100% to the comic while the "pro" fans police all thought and even run out people who dare have a different opinion and wanting to make content that isn't solely praising HxP and kissing Rachel's feet. Very strange indeed.

8. Funny how Rachel "super researched" Smythe doesn't seem to know only a handful of gods had their powerss stripped from them to learn a lessen, one of which was Apollo, which made him mature as a deity and have a better appreciation for mortals. Something tells me she won't let Persephone go through such a change or reflection, she'll only be trying to get back to Hades at all costs and that's about it, with her having learned nothing. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

9. Lo hades gives massive “I voted for Obama, how could I be racist?” Energy. The man is textbook definition of a centrist at best neoliberal and no that’s not a compliment. he looks right out of “Get Out”.

10. the fact the only real basis for HxP's "romance" in this comic is Hades being slightly better than her literal r4pist (with weird parallels to each other?? rachel you want them as different as possible??), physical lust, and trauma bonding is so bad lmao, especially when we're four years into this. Like how is the main point of the story still this underdeveloped at this point? And she's just going to drag it out again with this separation.

a/n: this one took me quite a while but i’m happy with it !!! i decided to write out a longer introduction to this to kinda set up a scene !! i hope y’all enjoy it (esp the comforting parts ofc kdjdjf)

it’s somewhat unlike you to walk alone at night. you figured it would only take you a few minutes, but you got out of work late, setting you back quite a while. to make things worse, while you were working overtime, the sun had set, leaving you to traverse the dimly lit city streets on your own. all you know is that your boyfriend left the door open for you, and a couch date sounds really great right now.

somewhere along your walk, you heard a shuffling noise coming from behind you. you disregarded it, thinking it may have been simple paranoia. you’ve seen too many movies, you think. however, as you keep up your leisurely yet steady pace, you hear another noise. this time you turn around.

a man. in a black hoodie. looking you dead in the eye.

your eyes widen as a small gasp leaves your mouth. needless to say, you begin sprinting to your destination, heart racing at a pace that rivals the speed of your feet. with your focus aimed at getting as far away as you can, you’re honestly not even sure how your legs know where they’re going. nevertheless, your saving grace comes into view. after a quick glance at the now empty street behind you, you sprint even faster than before. and, once you make it to the apartment door, you fling the door open and leap inside with enough force to rattle the hinges.

“y/n? what’s wro-”

“i was being followed,” you interject, a choked sob finally escaping you.

◈ CHAN

his first instinct, no matter what, is to make sure you feel safer now.

he’ll sit you down on the couch, staying close beside you and rubbing your back while reiterating that whoever that man was is gone now.

i’ve always liked to think he’d be good to have around in the event of a panic attack. especially if you’re the type of person who needs physical and verbal reassurance. back rubs, hugging, and breathing reminders galore.

once you’ve calmed down, he would wipe away your tears and hold you close to him as he asks you about the rest of your day.

he’s an amazing listener and he can’t wait to hear about the latest employee or customer gossip lmao

but more importantly, it would take your mind off things, which is all he truly wants.

if you start looking a bit gloomy or drifting off in thought, he’d probably suggest some cuddle time !! he would make sure to remind you of how courageous you were in that moment before promising you one last time that you’re safer now, here with him.

you’d finally fall asleep in his arms, filling him with relief.

first reaction: absolutely pissed.

not at you of course, but at the guy who was following you. with you still in his arms, he glances pointedly out the front door and the windows, closing the blinds after giving the entire apartment a once-over.you end up in the bedroom, in which he’ll guide you to sit beside him on the bed.

his expression will have completely changed from anger to loving concern. he’d look deeply into your eyes while holding both your hands in his, assuring you that you’re safe now.while you continue to cry, you explain what had happened in more detail. he strokes your hair as you speak and nods along, blood boiling.

he can’t stand the thought of any person making you feel unsafe. but, he’d maintain a calm exterior in order to make you feel more at ease.

once you describe the whole situation, he’d reassure you once again that the man can’t get to you now.

“he’ll have to get through me.”

i think he’d have a similar reaction to minho !!

very visibly pissed that some random guy had the nerve to intimidate you. that dude’s lucky he didn’t follow you the whole way home or else he’d probably be pretty uh. damaged. by now..

he’d sit you down on the couch, do a quick check-in at each of the windows and doors, and come back as soon as he can to console you.

when he does, he’s quick to sit beside you, arm wrapped around you with the other wiping the tears off of your face.

after you explain the situation a bit more clearly, he becomes even more angry (probably mutters some curses under his breath)

but !!!! i think he’d really try his best to focus on cheering you up

asking you what you’d like to do for the rest of the night, if you’d like any food, if you’d like to sleep or stay up for a while.. etc.

plus he’d amp up the silly antics to make you forget about things !!

◈ HYUNJIN

i think his physical reaction would become similar to yours. very quickly.

like once he sees your tears and senses your quickened pulse. his immediate response (whether voluntary or not) would be to emulate you.

so, naturally, he’d hold you in his arms and let you cry it out, while small sobs of his own escape him.

seeing you so scared is a scary feeling.

of course, he’d reassure you that you’re safe !!! he’d look into your eyes, tucking your hair behind your ears, and tell you that it’s all over now and that you’re safe.

you, of course, don’t want him to feel sad or scared, so you’d console him as well.

you two would comfort each other the whole rest of the night. i think the most probable option would be the two of you cuddled up in bed watching a movie or reading webtoons together

distraction !! but make it a drama !! or a romcom because .. vibes !!

and when you decide it’s time for bed (however late that may be due to the stress from earlier) he’d be sure to remind you that he’ll be with you all night & when you wake up

(but he’s also secretly clinging onto you out of fear as well kdjfgj)

before you came, he might have cooked a small meal for the two of you to share. even though you worked late, it’d still be waiting for you when you arrive. he’d wait too.

when you do happen to burst through the door, he’d jump and gasp out of fear but he’s quick to run up to you and hold you as you let out everything you’d held in during your walk-turned-chase

also !! will help you get settled in as you describe what went down

helping you take off your coat and shoes, getting water for you, grabbing some blankets; all while listening intently and giving you all of his attention

once you’re seated on the couch, wrapped in the softest blanket he could find and staying hydrated after such a harrowing event, he’d be sure to hold you as close as possible to remind you that everything’s okay

eventually, through his subtle gestures and calming demeanor, you won’t even realize how you got situated !! he just knows what to do to make you as comfortable as possible without even trying all that hard

you may choose to skip dinner, but no matter what, he’ll be holding you close the whole night through to make sure you know he’s there to protect and care for you

◈ SEUNGMIN

he’s very methodical about how to proceed. his first instinct is to do what some of the others would and check the house, but he decides to help you calm down first.

you’re rambling about what happened in between sobs and quick breaths, which sends a pain through his heart as he shuts and locks the door.

if you’re shorter than him, he’d bend a little to make direct eye contact with you. he’ll rub your arms and tell you that you don’t have to be afraid anymore

the most calming and reassuring voice in the whole world omg !!!!!!

he’d wipe your tears away and cup your face with both of his hands, prompting you to look back into his eyes before smiling at you

“you’re safe now, right?”

you smile back at him, nodding.

“now, let’s lock all the doors so no bad guys can get in!”

then, he’d take your hand and let you help him lock the doors and shut the curtains, making it feel like a chore instead of a precaution

and for your “good work”, he’d reward you with some binge watching & cuddle time !!! (as if that wasn’t the original plan skjdfg)

◈ JEONGIN

(under his breath, eyes wide) “oh my god…”

i think he’d start freaking out a bit like hyunjin did, but he’d do his very best to hide it. he knows he has to be strong to help you calm down and feel safe.

like felix, he’d help you take off your coat and shoes, leading you over to the couch as you shakily describe what happened.

(i’m sorry i keep making comparisons to the other members bUT) like minho, he’d hold your hands in his, rubbing them softly with his thumbs to soothe your nerves as you let everything out

he’d try to cheer you up by suggesting alternative motives the man might’ve had instead of wanting to harm you

Nevertheless, Episode 9 (Preview)

Na Bi’s Choice

It’s almost time.

This will be my last post until after the latest episode drops, I think. I have no more to say; no more speculation to offer. I am actually still undecided as to whether I’m going to watch it tomorrow or binge it with the final episode next week. We’ll see.

So! I am here to offer a recap and a run down of where Na Bi has been and where, maybe, she’s going in this next episode based on everything I’ve seen so far. This is my opinion and if yours differs, I would love to hear about it.

Let’s do a recap:

Na Bi is, somewhat unsuccessfully, trying to move on from her relationship with Park Jae Un. In episode 8, we have two confessions (well, three, but Soljiwan don’t deserve to be a part of this angsty mess): one from Yang Do Hyeok, Na Bi’s childhood best friend, and one from Park Jae Un, local asshole.

Na Bi seems now aware of how messy her personal life is and has decided that now is not the best time to be dating. She turns down Do Hyeok, who only reassures and comforts her that it’s fine; he still likes her no matter what. Do Hyeok, best boy that he is, decides to respect her decision and give her the space she needs to choose what is best for herself.

Jae Un, asshole that he is, hasn’t gotten the memo that Na Bi desires an end to their drama and continues to invade her personal space and cross boundaries where he isn’t wanted. He does his own version of a confession and drops a hefty piece of info: that he was present at the night when Na Bi’s ex revealed his erotic sculpture of her and saw it all went down. He further reveals that he fell in love with her at first sight there.

Na Bi, thankfully, isn’t impressed.

(Not sure if the show is going to expand further on this info but we’ll see.)

At the end of episode 8, it’s evident that Jae Un is increasingly desperate to keep Na Bi by his side. He stalks her to the alleyway where they first talked all those episodes ago and drops that dumbass one liner about butterflies again.

And that’s where we left off.

Let’s break down Na Bi’s choices next. I’m not going to say how likely any of them are to happen; it’s all up in the air.

It’s Na Bi. We won’t know until she says it.

First off:

Park Jae Un

Let’s talk about it. Chemistry and attraction seem to reign supreme in Nevertheless and his case seems to be further bolstered by the fact that Na Bi seems unable to shut him out permanently (at this point, I’m not sure what exactly would be her breaking point with him). Yes, the two have evident feelings for each other but I’m feeling it more from him, rather than Na Bi.

The tables have certainly turned in this latter half of the drama: now Jae Un is the one desperately in love, whereas Na Bi is not willing to reciprocate. His gestures and advances of “sincerity” towards her come off as entirely self serving; I feel like he enjoys the feeling of being in love with her rather than actually being present in the relationship. It’s one thing to love someone; it’s another thing entirely to put in the work to make the relationship sustainable. And I have yet to see anything from either Jae Un or Na Bi that tells me that they could be a viable couple in the long run.

Also, Na Bi’s decision (if she sticks to it, which I hope she does) to not date anyone currently might have closed the door on this couple already: Jae Un clearly wants to date Na Bi now. There’s an interesting (and increasingly plausible) scenario that could arise from this:

Na Bi gives in and admits her feelings to him but still rejects him because they need to sort themselves out. Jae Un, impatient and wanting nothing short of a hard ‘yes’, takes this as a total rejection and leaves for America. Na Bi is heart broken once again but moves on. They meet again after he returns and it’s up to the viewer to interpret whether or not they give it a second chance.

Here are the factors that work in Jae Un’s favor: first, that damn explosive attraction he has with Na Bi. Although I think it’s wearing off by episode 8, it’s still a potent force. And the fact that Na Bi still has lingering thoughts and feelings towards him also speaks that she isn’t done with him, much to her dismay. Yes, she’s angry, suspicious, sad with him but if she really didn’t care she wouldn’t feel anything at all. And, despite Na Bi’s better judgment, we know he’s the one she keeps turning to.

Other factors? He’s the fucking main lead. Rarely do kdramas have the girl end up with anyone other than the main lead. Our best boy Do Hyeok isn’t even listed as a second lead. So, that’s something to take into consideration.

But don’t count Do Hyeok out just yet. Let’s talk about him.

Yang Do Hyeok

Best boy. One of three reasons why most of us are watching this mess (the other two being Soljiwan). Do Hyeok, despite all the factors previously mentioned working in favor for Jae Un, continues to represent a strong rival and possible endgame for Na Bi. So, let’s talk about him.

Nevertheless makes the strong case for Jae Un and his type of love but it also makes a strong case for Do Hyeok. He was a bright, yet brief presence in the webtoon and his screen time in the drama has definitely been extended to showcase even more of that sweet, charming smile of his.

I’ve written in a previous post about why Do Hyeok and Na Bi make sense and why their relationship is already so good even though they’re not dating but I’ll simplify for you all here: it’s based on an even playing field and has a strong foundation of friendship already present. Do Hyeok doesn’t leave Na Bi in any doubts about how feels about her; he comforts her when she’s feeling down even after she rejected him; he is attentive and cares for her deeply. And, also, she trusts him implicitly in a way she doesn’t with Jae Un. He makes her smile the most like no one else does. With him, Na Bi is unapologetically happy and carefree that she hasn’t been in a long time.

Do Hyeok’s only flaw is that he has epically bad timing. Which, unfortunately, matters a lot in relationships.

The feelings Na Bi has for Do Hyeok have been complicated by his confession but, in a rare moment of clarity (again something she doesn’t have with Jae Un who only confuses her), she turns him down in order to protect him from herself. So, yes, Do Hyeok is still the childhood best friend but only because Na Bi is keeping him safe. She doesn’t want to disappoint him.

One factor working in Do Hyeok’s favors: he’s still in the drama, for one. Seol-a, Jae Un’s ex, has been absent since episode five (although she’s making her grand return in this next episode). If the show was really done with Do Hyeok, it would have been a done deal by now (well, we’ll see what happens in episode 9) but it tells me that there’s still a plan for him. He’s not merely a distraction or being used for character progression for Na Bi and Jae Un.

The biggest thing going for Do Hyeok right now? He and Na Bi are endgame in the webtoon. There’s been plenty of talk about how they’ve made changes to differentiate the drama from the webtoon but I’ve been talking with others who have read the webtoon and we are in agreement: the changes, while substantial, have been to the characters and not so much the overall narrative. I’m not saying the ending will be exactly the same but I do think it will hit the same beats just in a different, healthier and happy way.

My scenario for Do Hyeok and Na Bi is that she makes the choice to finally ditch Jae Un for good but doesn’t commit to Do Hyeok immediately. She might stay friends with him after asking him to wait for her. We’ll see the set up and consummation for that in episode 10.

(However, since Nevertheless is entirely driven by the characters and their choices you could make the argument that those character changes are enough to warrant a different ending. So, take that as you will.)

Despite all the positive things I have to say about Na Bi and Do Hyeok, I have to stress that nothing is guaranteed here. The preview promises nothing but more pain and angst between Na Bi, Do Hyeok, and Jae Un. That’s the only certainty.

Well. There’s one more certainty. At least, I hope. In fact, it’s the most obvious and clear choice that Na Bi should be making in episode 9 and the one I hope the writers are gearing towards. It’s the only outcome any of us should care about, really.

Yu Na Bi

Yes, you read that right.

This is the only endgame we should really give a shit about. That Yu Na Bi chooses herself, her well being, her happiness, over anything else. Jae Un vs Do Hyeok - it’s not important and never really should have been.

Yes, we can all differ on the opinion of which of these two guys can best help her achieve this but Na Bi really needs to stand on her own to achieve this. Happiness has to come from within; she needs to fix what’s broken inside before she can be in a good relationship.

Na Bi needs to love herself first before anyone else. She deserves that so much. I want that before anything else and if she can get that, I will forgive the writers for all the BS they’ve put us through. And even if she chooses Jae Un. I’ll be happy for her and wishing her well.

(Although, again, Do Hyeok is the only one who gets that she needs to figure this out for herself, BUT it’s still Na Bi’s choice. It’s not that Do Hyeok deserves Na Bi, but she deserves someone sweet and good like Do Hyeok in her life.)

Best of luck to us all, Na Bi, and Do Hyeok tomorrow. It’s the beginning of the end. We’re almost there. Let’s wish them all happy endings.

here’s a long post about a bunch of webcomics i love and recommend. i’ve certainly read & liked other ones and have just lost track of them somehow but these are like, mostly classics that basically anyone who reads newer webcomics will recommend to you and a couple i’ve found more recently that i loved. tried to limit it to FAVES that update pretty regularly or are already completed so you can get quality stories out of it but it still ended up mammoth so uh, it’s goin’ under a readmore

namesake - super long-running comic with beautiful art, consistent and frighteningly frequent updates, made by Webcomics Pros. it’s about people who have the ability to enter the worlds of essentially any fairy tales in which the protagonists happen to share their name, and the lore only gets more intricate from there. this one is a very engaging archive binge as it’s been running for about a million years

gunnerkrigg court - honestly if you’re not already reading gunnerkrigg court i'd be very surprised since this is another one that’s been going easily since the invention of webcomics (not really, but THAT ARCHIVE!). i don’t know how to summarize it beyond saying it STARTS as a story about a girl attending a quirky boarding school and is now kind of a sweeping epic about the intersection of technology, nature, and divinity. there’s time travel or something in there now?! you will love renardine. i love renardine

paranatural - another one i’m sure you’re already reading and if not, WHY? it’s a fun li’l action-comedy about middle schoolers fighting ghosts with the help of other ghosts. has been running for a good while and gone through some weird changes but is also probably one of the funniest serial comics i’ve ever read

he is a good boy - a super weird, cerebral, since-finished comic by online comics vet KC Green, about a little acorn finally leaving the tree he grew on after it dies. this one has more “adult” content than any of the previous ones, but if you can handle some cartoony gore and obscenity it’s really funny, strange, and worth checking out

anything by evan dahm tbh - these come recommended by absolutely anyone with taste because evan dahm makes beautiful fantasy comics. rice boy and order of tales are both completed and have a bizarre, super-unique setting and bittersweet approach to these delicate, human stories (despite having no actual human characters). vattu is still currently running and is a slightly more grounded fantasy comic about a little girl from a nomadic hunter-gatherer culture getting caught up in the machinery of the empire that’s moving in on the land where she was born. cannot recommend these enough TBH

also anything on johnny wander - this site contains a bunch of comics by a couple of married comics pros; a big backlog of their really funny, charming autobio comics, the entirety of their graphic novel lucky penny, a whole bunch of shorter comics you might have seen around, and also their new, longer-form webcomic barbarous, which is about a wizard school dropout who’s appointed as a super at an apartment building full of weird magical folks. recommended because there’s a lot of quality stuff in there for you

the sword interval - on webtoon, completed. legit my favorite thing i’ve read in a hot minute. modern fantasy about a young woman who tracks down a legendary, but retired monster hunter for help on her quest to find and kill the lich-like being who killed her parents. gorgeous art, super awesome monster designs, twists on twists, characters you will never want anything bad to happen to ever. reggie the golem.

widdershins - a pretty well established comic i only just read recently. a series of connected stories following different characters from a big ensemble cast and their various adventures in a magical town in victorian west yorkshire. full of fun old-timey shit and wizards. i read it obsessively in like a day. super funny, super long archive. extremely endearing characters who you also will never want anything bad to happen to.

the last halloween - abby howard is a godly horror artist who’s been doing this comic since her style and sense of humor were almost completely different, but the story really does grow as it goes and is both very spooky and very funny. book one is about a little girl facing the potential extinction of humanity after the spontaneous appearance of billions of monsters. it’s currently in book 2, which is a direct sequel about different characters that actually updates sporadically at the moment because the artist is making other cool stuff. definitely still worth it though. gets intense as hell

string theory - this one got back into regular updates pretty recently! i’m linking the about page, not the homepage, because this one is about nasty people doing nasty things and there’s a few CWs that the author mentions right in the summary. it’s an alternate history sci-fi set in a near future where the USA was devastated by nuclear weapons after the cuban missile crisis but is mostly a character driven story about a jerkhole scientist having a terrible couple years. i can’t explain this one at all. if you like terrible men as much as i do you’ll probably enjoy it

tiger, tiger - a beautifully drawn maritime fantasy about a young noblewoman who impersonates her sea captain brother in order to launch an expedition to study sea sponges. there is a sexy nonbinary sea monster character if that sweetens the pot for you any. awesome, subtly integrated worldbuilding. super funny and charming. i love this one a whole bunch

bybloemen - i’m not just recommending this because i’m vague internet acquaintances with the author, it’s ALSO an extremely one-of-a-kind comic about the dutch tulip mania, and also demons. the art is gorgeous and the character designs are some of my favorites out there in newer webcomics. just kind of an extremely good concept that i think everyone should check out. and it’s funny, duh

mare internum - completed. an extremely affecting sci-fi set on Mars. you really just have to read this one, honestly. i’m also linking to the about page on this one because it contains CWs to keep in mind; it’s an incredibly well-constructed character study of some flawed, complicated people and also awesome if you like space aliens.

ozzie the vampire - another supernatural action-comedy because i know what i like, about a recently turned vampire girl and her best friend defending their small new jersey town from demons. super funny, super exciting, and really grounded and realistic for a story that’s about a vampire punching demons. the artist is also a superhuman wizard who draws a whole other comic, a shounen inspired action story called station square that you should check out if you end up liking ozzie.

Dr. Romantic, Teacher Kim 2 Review

I know that I’m very late to this, but please bear with me. this drama came out back in January, and at that time it didn’t pique my interest, since I’m not a huge medical drama watcher. as a matter of fact, this is the first medical drama that I’ve watched! I saw one of my close friends gush about the chemistry between Lee Sung Kyung and Ahn Hyo Seop (the actors playing the lead couple in DRTK 2) on her instagram story, so I decided to give it a watch. And to say that I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. 

This is genuinely the best kdrama I have watched ALL year. Everything about it so amazing. I was initially a bit worried because I haven’t yet watched the first season of Dr. Romantic, so I thought I’d have trouble following the storyline. But that was not the case at all! I could understand pretty much everything perfectly, and even though there were a few references to older characters, overall I wasn’t confused at all. And I’m not gonna lie, this kdrama kind of made me reconsider my future career options LMAOOO I high-key wanted to become a surgeon after watching this,, idk man, might fuck around and do medicine after I graduate high school. (my mom would die to hear me say these words)

The story revolves around the extremely talented doctor with a passion for helping and saving people, Bu Yong Ju, or Kim Sa Bu (played by Han Suk Kyu), as he’s referred to in the drama, the extremely intelligent, hardworking and sincere, but anxious doctor Cha Eun Jae (played by Lee Sung Kyung), and the talented lonewolf Seo Woo Jin (played by Ahn Hyo Seop), who’s struggling with debt. Kim Sa Bu recruits Cha Eun Jae and Seo Woo Jin to help run the chaotic Doldam Hospital, which is situated at a countryside, the place where rest of the story takes place. 

All the characters in this kdrama are so well written, and all of them have reasons for doing the things that they do. All the side characters are so so so likeable (I particularly liked the Head Nurse’s Tigress mom-like character!) -- There is not one character that I can say is poorly written. Even the dude I hated the most (Dr. Yang Ho Joon) is a well written character

The storyline in this kdrama is by far one of the most interesting ones. I literally could not stop myself from binge watching the whole thing in less than a week lmao. That's the only complain I have -- I could not put my phone down. Every time I would finish an episode, I’d practically be dying to know what happens in the next one. Every episode brings a new medical case, and I would feel my blood pressure heighten up during each and every emergency treatment. The tension that our characters feel during a surgery seems very much palatable through the screen. Like you can tell, that this is a life and death situation. And every sigh of relief that you’d take after the patient is saved would feel earned.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY adored the camaraderie and the sense of community the staff at Doldam Hospital shared. Honestly, I can talk about their loving relationship with each other for hours. These people are very much a family. These are the characters you get really emotionally attached to. And I particularly love them because found family is my favorite tv/movie/book trope :”) They are literally what I want my ideal work environment to be like! if our relationship is not like the staff at Doldam Hospital, I don’t want it. 🙄👎

My favorite character, most definitely would be the Romantic Doctor himself, Kim Sa Bu. Honestly, everyone deserves a mentor like Kim Sa Bu in their life. His wise teachings, his eye for talent, his way of teaching people and helping them overcome their flaws is literally all I want in life. He has this way of reassuring people, that it’ll be okay as long as he’s there. In the end of the kdrama, he tells us to always be in touch with our idealistic side and to never let go of the romanticism inside of us. People might call him a madman, crazy, impractical, but Kim Sa Bu always puts values and ideals like empathy, doing the right thing, selflessness at the top. He’s a character that I’ll remember for a really long time.

And of course, I can’t forget Woo Jin and Eun Jae. These two are literally my babies. We see them grow as individuals, and as a duo/couple throughout the drama. They are legit one of my favorite slow burn couples ever. And their relationship is so beautiful, you can tell how much they care about each other. While Eun Jae teaches Woo Jin to be more open about his feelings, to sometimes rely on others, Woo Jin teaches Eun Jae to be more confident with her surgery skills. (CAN I TAKE A MOMENT TO JUST TALK ABOUT EUN JAE’S CHARACTER ARC? LIKE . OMG. I’m absolutely in love!! her character glow up is like the one I want. she went from being an insecure people pleaser with a good girl complex to a self assured and extremely skilled surgeon!! God I really want to have a character arc like her, because I really relate to how Eun Jae initially was lol) Anyway, I literally cANNOT stop fangirling over them. They’re always there for each other emotionally, every time one of them is going through something. Their emotional connection is just *chef’s kiss*. They’re in my “dream relationships” list. Also this is a quick disclaimer that you might feel like they’re a bit slow, but that’s because the story isn’t completely centered around their romance. That being said, I WOULD DIE TO SEE MORE OF THEM :(( like I literally go on youtube and re-watch all my favorite WooJae scenes. (I’m lonely can u tell)

Overall, this kdrama is literally perfection for me (it’s my emotional support kdrama now ahaha). I recommend it to people who like frenemies-to-lovers trope, found family trope, along with some good adrenaline rush (lol)

Also quick viewer discretion: This show contains themes of violence, death and r@pe/s3xual assault. it also contains  A LOT of blood. Like, A LOT. I know this stuff triggers a lot of people, I advise those people to not watch it. please take care :( I love u <33

holly i need you to know i used to read castle swimmer fucking god knows how long ago back when it first started and let me tell you the whiplash i just got from seeing it again was incredible i love it

I love it too!

Basically, one night last week I wasn't able to sleep because I wasn't feeling too great. Tumblr happened to suggest the Adam Moss blog and I said "Seems interesting. Alright, guess I'll get the app so I can read it properly instead of through my internet."

Binged that series quickly since there's only about 13 chapters available at the moment. And well, had the WebToon app now so might as well use it to find other stories.

Which was how I ended up being recommended one about two merboys who work together to overcome the prophecy involving them both and going "Oh fuck yeah, sign me the hell up."

It's so easy to fall for those characters and as soon as it got to the part where Siren and Kappa are deciding they want to break him out of prison and run away together, I knew I definitely didn't regret checking it out.

Not sure where you left off but right now, Kappa has found 3 new mother figures who are teaching him the ways of evil witches while Siren is being taught how not to get his ass kicked by a child and an axolotl. Maybe you should dip your toe back in if you want/have the time. I'm really enjoying it.

WEBTOONS THAT CHANGED ME

hi are u stuck at home in isolation and looking for things to binge read? look for no further because i decided to make a list of webtoons i love for no particular reason but that i’m running out of things to do 

(in case you don’t know what webtoons are - they’re online mini comics that you can read by downloading the webtoon app)

i. YUMI’S CELLS

yumi’s cells take us through the life of a 30-something woman, yumi, in a very creative way - through showing all her brain cells at work. the story is light-hearted but so gripping, that you don’t even realize how attached you’ve become to yumi after reading for so long. the style of storytelling is probably the most creative style i’ve ever seen, and the story itself is so entertaining. there’s been so many moments i laughed, cried, shut my phone off in anger... it’s the full deal of emotions with this one. there’s lots of life lessons packed in the story and i really feel like watching yumi go through different relationships + different struggles made me develop my own perspective on life and all that comes with it.

ii. GOURMET HOUND

there’s something special about reading a story where you can feel the love of the creator for their work throughout. gourmet hound is a story that delivers on every aspect of creativity, love, pain, character development and relationships. it’s a story i began reading sometime around mid 2019, a story i’ve lost sleep for, a story my heart has sung for, a story that’s become a part of me and a story i will probably cry saying goodbye to. it’s a story that revolves around lucy, a young women with strong olfactory sense, who is searching for a dish at a restaurant she grew up with. because of this, she ends up encountering all the previous chefs of that restaurant, slowly uncovering why all those chefs fell apart too. each character is paid so much detail and each arc is done beautifully. i’ve always been one for unique settings but reading a story like gourmet hound, all about cooking, was a first and a very unique experience for me. i’ve grown to appreciate the beauty of the work of chefs as well as all the small things that go into it. i’m so lucky this story has got to be a part of my life for around a year, and can only hope everybody else also experiences this webtoon!

iii. DR. FROST

i read this webtoon in a matter of days in early 2018, yet i think of it so often and so vividly, you could think i read it yesterday. dr frost deals with psychology and different cases of patients who deal with all kinds of problems. there is so much detail and interesting facts in each part that with each new case wrapped, i find myself knowing something i didn’t before. dr frost himself is also such an enigma that i loved learning about him as a character, his past and his abilities with solving psychological cases. this is really a must-read; i’ve searched high and low and not been able to find such a brilliant story, embedded with realism.

iv. AGE MATTERS

this story is quite popular on webtoon already but i have to put it on my list. i remember loving this story from its launch, back in 2018 and it’s something i’ve looked forward to every week for the past two years. age matters, although a love story on the surface level, is the story of rose, a 30 year old who (like most women are conditioned to be) is trapped in her mindset that her age is a weakness in a world where only the youth can prosper. this story speaks to me so much - we’re all fearful of reaching an ‘expiry date’. but this story tries to show rose’s journey breaking away from that idea, as she tackles her new life working under a young entrepreneur. i really appreciate the dynamic of the two leads and the focus on the idea of ‘age’, ‘youth’ and ‘success’.

Okay so i started watching Moriarty the patriot and omg!!! you should have warned me about all the gorgeous man, especially the Kuroo look alike djwkdjej But I'm liking it!! I'm considering reading the BSD manga because i finished the anime and now i feel empty :') I already watched naruto xD I'll probably watch jujutsu kaisen.... the promised neverland idk i saw some stuff about it and kind made reluctant in watching it cjsjdhd

Haikyuu really is a comforting anime to watch 🥺🥺 whenever i feel like shit i always watch it. Everything about it makes me feel good c: I never watched the heirs xjwkdjehd i wanted too but then i got spoiled for everything and ended up not watching it xD True beauty is also all over my fyp xjwkdhhe i guess its s sign for me to start watching it.

i still have three episodes of the heirs left but i have up 🙄🙄 finished strong girl and now i’m watching weightlifting fairy. pls true beuty is so good,,, very different to webtoon but i still love it. i’m not forcing you but i kinda am ✋🙄🙄 it is so worth it but i get that people would rather binge it.
