Been having a pretty big writer's block (and probably a severe case of burnout too) these past few months weeks so Ive been gaming a bit instead. Ive put like over 30h into V Rising, after their big update in May, and now I started Assassin's Creed Revelations again, first time in a few years bcs I saw a lil' bit on a stream and Im a Sucker for Ezio's trilogy, but there's the steam summer sale going on and AC: Syndicate has such a nice discount now and I kinda wanna buy it. Ive never played it but I saw the gameplay as it came out and I still really dig the victorian vibes a lot (+ Evie!), but then I look at the AC: Unity that has been chilling in my steam library since forever (that I never even installed) and Im like "but WILL I even play it?" aaaaaand I dunno. I do have the money on my steam account already tho soooo... I could also get the Shadow of War/Mordor combo, which is even cheaper, but Im kinda in the AC mood rn hmmmmmmm

The way how in We Know the Devil the couple you choose to go with always finishes the ending by pretty much confirming the worse insecurities of the girl who got excluded, Venus and Jupiter still keep trying so hard to remain good kids that they can't even hear Neptune anymore, Venus and Neptune hold hands without any effort without even trying like Jupiter did so hard in the only way she could bring herself to, Jupiter and Neptune look at each other the way they can't ever look at Venus
Just... the way that in the blue ending when the narration is from Venus + Jupiter's pov and they say they "won't let her stain" them referring to being "stained" with her "impure" but valid feelings, with her rage at being treated so poorly by those around them, they won't let those thoughts in because they want to be the good kids out of the bad ones and Neptune never did and even when she talks to them afterwards nothing she says will ever get through to them again. They chose to stay clean. The way the achievement for the blue ending is called "Lukewarm, I spit you out" and is the only one named after a Bible verse, and it's one about how spiritually "hot" people are active in their faith and spiritually "cold" people "can still be strongly influenced" but someone like Neptune who knows just enough to intentionally reject the word of god is the kind of person that "deserves" to be "spit out" like a lukewarm drink
The way that in the red ending when the narration is from Neptune + Venus pov they say they chose to be distant from her that they affirm time and again they had no idea she could possibly be going through so much turmoil that she'd turn out to be it, this sudden storm, and it's not because they were upset at her they at the end of the day just don't understand, they want to, because how could she possibly have had all those feelings deep inside her? They're safe from her storm, it does not break over them, in that moment together they no longer share in all that turmoil from Jupiter's at all. Their view of her may not be admiration but it's still so unreachable and unfathomable and distant from her true feelings and that way she'll forever stay. The way the achievement for the red ending is "No prince for the princesses" and Jupiter is the designated "tomboy" out of the three of them, how she's the one trying the hardest to keep this strong front and always do the right thing and help the other two but "always messes it up" in fundamentally misunderstanding what they needed in the end they didn't even need her to be all that for them because they needed each other and not her
The way that in the yellow ending when the narration is from Neptune + Jupiter pov they say they chose to hide their faces that they're the only ones to escape Venus' light because they do not see her the same way she sees herself, "he's" a poor unfortunate friend of theirs that they'll feel guilty for having to fight against but that simply wouldn't ever fit into this new freedom they found for themselves in each other, they can see their light their way out of this camp but Venus who wants so bad to see her light has it taken away from her with every time they stare into each other's eyes a bit too long, everytime she's suddenly invisible even when physically close and looked directly at they still see right through her true self. The way the achievement for the yellow ending is called "Help me God, I'm in love" and how the lights always appear when the other two are acting close, how Jupiter accidentally falls with Venus to the ground but instantly helps her up and turns her attention entirely back to Neptune right away and how afraid Venus is during this whole thing she just wants them to allow her that moment of "weakness" to be herself with them while all they want is their way out and not have to deal with the devil at all, all she wants is to embrace it

ohohoh, you have a sharpe werewolf au? do you want to share any details from it?
“Wellington’s mastiff, they call you. They’ll have another name for you once this is known,” sneered Ducos, looming down from his high horse. Sunlight glinted on his spectacles, and Sharpe snarled, his teeth bared. “My, my, Major Sharpe, what big teeth you have.” And so saying, Ducos set spurs to his horse and rode from that place. Sharpe swung his head from side to side, his mind still a dull mess of anger and confusion and fear. He hung suspended between Cooper and Hagman, each of the riflemen clamped on to one of his arms to keep him on his feet. Even in the punishing sunlight of that drought-dusty courtyard, he was cold without his coat. It was that cold that brought him back to himself.
you BET I have a sharpe werewolf au!

downloaded wolfenstein after going on a jacob geller rewatch binge and getting intrigued by blazko. for reference i've played one fps in my 23 years and got stuck on the third level, so i'm either gonna cry and shit my pants or actually learn how shooters work. if you see me spamming ben affleck smoking reaction pics in my posts tomorrow then that's your explanation

Oh yeah, the Veilguard trailer does look excellent, I sure love that deeply charming, yet unromanceable dwarf man voiced by Brian Bloom!
(something something weird that it happened three times)

sorry but jin was interesting pre-tekken 6 because he was different from kazuya and heihachi. he wasn't just repeating the "morally gray guy becomes worse" story that we've already seen with kazuya. jin was designed with the intent to be kazuya's foil; to show what kazuya might've been had he stayed on the right path and was raised with love. having jin be exactly like kazuya ruins that point, and again, gives us a repetitive story. not jinpachi, not lars, but jin was supposed to be the good mishima. jin was supposed to be the exception - that's what originally made him stand out. yes, kazuya being Not So Good was a subversion of the Fighting Game Protagonist, but jin being the good guy was a subversion of the other mishimas, and well, a subversion in tekken itself.
and like yes, jin is a mishima, but he's also a kazama. to want him to be just like heihachi and kazuya takes away his kazama heritage. jin being a good guy who sometimes goes off the edge (such as wanting to kill kazuya, heihachi, and himself) and is sometimes a punk makes him a perfect mix of the two. he's not totes evil like kazuya, but he's not exactly a saint like his mother. jin is a bit of both, but ultimately - a good guy in the end. perhaps even taking his father's better qualities.
tekken 4 is known as one of the best written tekken stories. and y'know what's a big part of it? jin. jin's character is a big part of it. how he's portrayed and everything is executed so well, way better than tk6 could ever do, and way better than even tk8 did. it was the endings in tk4 that SOLIDIFIED jin as a good guy. in both heihachi and kazuya's endings, it ends with them killing everyone for their selfish gain. jin's ending is the only ending where everyone lives, where jin shows mercy. this is because jin is NOT like the other mishimas. this is what sets jin APART from the other mishimas. by making him just like kazuya in tk6, it ruins the story of tk4, and everything else about jin. all of what made jin GOOD.
i don't feel like getting the pictures to compare but if y'all played the games, y'all would know. in his tk6 intros and outros, jin crosses his arms and smirks - just like kazuya does in tk4+. when defeating an opponent, jin says "pitiful!" just how kazuya does the same when calling defeated opponents "pathetic". kazuya wears a suit, now jin wears one too. kazuya threatens to kill people, jin threatens to kill people. kazuya wanted to make an independent nation with an army in tk2, jin declared the zaibatsu's independence from the world with his own army in tk6. kazuya kidnapped dr. bosconovitch, jin kidnapped dr. bosconovitch. like jesus christ. you can say jin is boring or not like his character much, but at least before tk6 - he was an original character and wasn't just goddamn kazuya again.
"good guys have no place in tekken, that's what makes tekken tekken." okayyyyyy... then what's the point of lars? alisa? xiaoyu? shaheen? do you know how many goody characters are in tekken? in fact, the whole "every person is bad in tekken!!1!" is becoming a Thing of the Past (if it was ever an actual thing to begin with lmao). just because look at tk7... what did it do? make heihachi look like a better person. look at tk8... what did it do? make the fucking devil himself into a good person. when the devil HIMSELF is a GOOD PERSON, i think that's a sure fire way that "every character in tekken is edgy and bad" is a thing that's no more lmao. in fact, we can argue more characters are now good in tekken than they are bad.
i understand people will have their own opinion but my god... it just drives me crazy how common the "tekken 6 made jin interesting achtually!" take is... it's just, sorry. but i think it's wrong.

I've tried to run BG2 again (I need to finish my modded playthrough) and my laptop is in such a bad state it prectically lags BG2. BG2, which could be run on a determined microwave, on a laptop that has 8GB of RAM! It is heavily used and it has a lot of apps, but I've uninstalled everything I didn't use and cleaned the registry awhile ago. I suspected the antivirus, but the system manager shows it actually doesn't consume a lot of resources. It's not the disk space, since it's got plenty. It turns out it uses 100% of its disk all the time, and the main culprits seems to be.... *drum roll* system and Windows telemetry service! I now have to spend the evening elbows deep in frankly confusing system settings to find a way to turn the telemetry service off, and it may or may not improve the situation.
Once I finish this playthough, I'm definitely switching the laptop to Unix.
