Given that apparently, Essek's point of contact to the Accord besides Caleb is Allura, and it's not clear what he's doing besides random teleportation, I think it's funniest if she's conscripted him to be her personal assistant. She's going into battle and can't be distracted by random sendings from Imogen or Jester, nor should she really be expending spell slots on sending message, but Essek can. Plus it's probably humbling for him and also very useful in a way that he can't even complain about. I think that'd be good for him.

Corey is a musician! Their primary hobby is sort of a conglomerate of related hobbies in a trench coat; they play guitar, sing, and write their own music.

I hc that Anathema taught them, and the Rangers got them their first electric guitar/amp set up as a sort of joint present for the first birthday they (willingly) celebrated together.

They've always been very talkative/vocal, and mimicking things they hear is comforting for them (echolalia!). This made them *really good* at impressions and vocal mimicry (farm trained cuckoo skill), but it coincidentally also made them a really versatile singer. Over the years they've honed in on their own personal style, but they got their start singing whatever earworms they telepathically overheard in the the farm staff's heads and singing along with the radio/ getting invited to Ranger's karaoke night (their absolute favorite bonding activity).

They started writing music in their Sidestep days as a sort of vent art, and never showed their songs to anyone but Anathema. They've never been much for talking about their feelings, but they have to go somewhere, so turning them into edgy lyrics and screaming into a microphone about it was their preferred therapy substitute. After the heartbreak incident, Ortega keeps their guitar and their ipod out of sentimentality. Eventually they snoop through the ipod and find all of Corey's music. And hey, theyre dead, no harm in showing Steel (doesnt really care) and Herald (begs for mp3s) right?

One of the first things Corey did post-second escape was steal buy a shitty acoustic guitar. They made all their legitimate money by busking until they got established enough in LD again to get a tech support job as a cover and start their villain arc! They haven't had much time for playing/singing during Rebirth and Retri, but it's their go-to mind numbing activity for when they can't sleep (hope the neighbors like metalcore). Ortega gives back their ipod and their old guitar sometime between Rebirth and Retri. They are juuuuust starting to get back into writing music when shit hits the fan in Retribution, luckily theyll have plenty of time to work on their art while they wait for their legs to heal :) (theyre very aware of the potential behind being a decent musician/songwriter AND a villain with a big fanclub. They would really prefer to keep their music a personal thing, but are fully prepared to weaponize it if they think the attention would keep the farm off them)

Other self soothing routines include walks by the ocean and visiting the aquarium! Everyone knows about these, Corey has always been a fish nerd. They'd love to put together a tank of their own at their apartment, but are too worried about what would happen to the fish if they disappeared again to do it.

Okay all -- few quick thoughts about the Elon Muskifying of the government, especially the takeover of the Treasury and associated financial data for every single US citizen and organization, that we are learning about in detail today.

Don't panic. This sounds bad, because it is bad. It's really, really bad. It's outrageously fascist bad. But we've still gotta take a deep breath and get through it.

This is the kind of shock-and-awe exercise of untrammeled fascist power where they are absolutely counting on gleefully terrorizing, paralyzing, and stunning you into mounting no resistance, or just giving up and giving in. They are literally live-tweeting it in real time and boasting about all the access and influence they have right now. They want you to know about it and feel like you can't do anything, so you might as well let it happen.

We have to show them that's not true.

TIME TO MAKE SOME NOISE. Because it's Sunday night, I've gone ahead and contacted my state Attorney General and both senators by email (but come Monday morning, we should all be calling). Here is the email that I wrote to my AG:

Dear Mr. [AG],

As you will be aware, today (February 2, 2025) the Trump administration has granted wide-ranging access to sensitive US Treasury data, including the personal and private information of [state] citizens, to Elon Musk's so-called "Department of Government Efficiency." Musk is an unelected private citizen who has no legal right to access this data, and is engaging in extensive intimidation and coercion to fulfill his personal and harmful ideological agenda. The present and material harm that this causes to US citizens, [state] residents, and basic laws of government, privacy, and financial security is direct, unconscionable, and actionable. I strongly urge you, in your capacity as [state] Attorney General, to file direct suit against the Trump administration, Elon Musk, the "DOGE" office, and any identifiable individuals who have taken part in this action, in order to protect consumer data, citizen privacy, and basic faith and trust in government.

If you are in a red state, your voice is particularly important right now. The Trumpsters are counting on and are even emboldened by blue state pushback, but you really need to make it start coming from Republican strongholds. Congressional Republicans will only feel the slightest amount of unease about docilely enabling this BS when it starts threatening their own personal power. Hit them where it hurts.

Other lawsuits are coming. Marc Elias, Democratic lawyer extraordinaire, is well aware of this situation and has noted on Bluesky that more lawsuits are in the works. He often wins his cases. This does not mean that you shouldn't loudly make noise elsewhere, but please remember that this is one of those 24-hour periods where, as noted, they are counting on demoralizing you with a nonstop blizzard of bullshit. It does not say anything about how this will play out long-term or the opposition that can and will be mobilized to stop it.

oh yeah. did i ever ramble about the game idea i had about being an interdimentional hospital tunnel navigator?

like... hospital basement tunnels are natrually creepy places even if they try to brighten up the place with art. but in this game, several hospital tunnels would be connected through a backrooms-ish interdimentional thingy.

And you would be a guide there, cuz otherwise people would get lost, cuz the place changes and one map might not be accurate the next five hours.

so you go around there, with your cart with

a porable fax machine that you get new maps on

walke talke to contact other guides

containers so you can transport things like organs, tissue samples, medical equipment and documents to different places

drinking water and nutrition dense food for if you get lost or find someone lost

a well supplied first aid kit (cuz there of course be monsters!)

And you do tasks! Like lead people places where they're needed, mapping out the space, fetch quests... and sometimes you get to use the little motorized trollies to move bigger stuff, like trash, furniture or dead bodies!

Patients aren't allowed in the tunnels, unless they're in so dire need of care from another hospital that helicopters would be too slow. those are the riskiest missions... gosh so scary to think about that responsibility!!!

anyway the monsters would be like poltergeist mostly or medical equipment and office supplies elementals. But the orthotics and prosthetics section would have some real uncanny valley enemies, cuz the archives of those include gypsum models of all bodyparts. (legs and feet mostly, but arms, hands, torsos are there too. and rarely some heads, faces and necks)

so yah. It would be a map centered survival horror game, with focus on fetch quests and escort missions. Would definetly have some Exit 8 flavor to it too.
