What Makes MPLS and SD-WAN-Based Office Networks Different
Tumblr media
Multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) or software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN)? Most business owners in Saskatoon who must choose between the two want to know which will work better for their office network. To make the right choice, you first need to understand their differences.
In short, MPLS is a dedicated circuit, while SD-WAN is a virtual connection that does not depend on physical links. Because of this, MPLS is better at preventing packet loss. The virtual overlay in SD-WAN, on the other hand, allows users to utilize additional network links such as LTE, broadband, and MPLS, offering more flexibility.
Compare Costs
Companies that use MPLS networks typically employ a hub-and-spoke model with separate MPLS connections to link their remote offices to the main data center. As a result, all data, processes, and even cloud-based services require routing back to the data center for processing and redistribution. This setup is often not cost-effective.
SD-WAN reduces costs by connecting multiple locations through private, distributed data exchanges and control points. This configuration allows users improved and more direct access to the cloud and networking services they require.
Issues with Security
The internal backbone of the service provider acts as a secure and managed link between the company’s data center and branch offices, a benefit well-known to companies using MPLS. Most public internet services do not offer this level of security.
However, it's important to note that MPLS does not inherently inspect the data it carries. A firewall must be installed at one end of the link to scrutinize all traffic for malware and other security threats.
Additionally, this is a challenge that most SD-WAN systems face, necessitating enhanced security measures. Integrating security tools post-deployment complicates the process.
To prevent these issues, skilled network installation service providers incorporate SD-WAN connectivity directly into a next-generation firewall (NGFW) device. Each connection, therefore, features dynamic, meshed virtual private network (VPN) capabilities to secure data in transit. Several security tools, including firewalls, antivirus software, intrusion prevention systems, web filtering, and anti-malware, are employed to thoroughly scrutinize data.
How the Network Operates
In terms of performance, MPLS offers a consistent and fixed bandwidth level, which is advantageous for businesses. However, today's network traffic has variable speed demands. Thus, when businesses opt for an MPLS solution, there may be periods when expensive bandwidth remains underused, and times when MPLS may strain network connectivity due to the ever-increasing volume of data transmitted through new apps and devices.
SD-WAN can identify the types of apps in use and adjust bandwidth accordingly. It also sets up multiple parallel links to facilitate load sharing. Another advantage is failover, which involves switching to an alternate link if one connection fails. This feature ensures that latency-sensitive applications continue to perform optimally.
When MPLS May Be Preferable to SD-WAN
There are instances where MPLS might be a more suitable choice than SD-WAN, despite being considered an older network protocol by many.
MPLS remains an effective method for establishing secure and isolated connections for apps, transactions, and data that need to be kept separate from public internet networks. It offers a high level of data security. Both MPLS and SD-WAN can also be used together to manage various online activities.
If you are undecided between SD-WAN and MPLS, do not hesitate to consult network service providers. They understand how to leverage each technology in different scenarios and can help you choose the best option for your digital-first office.

Regina and Saskatoon can now access a new app that will help reduce food waste — a win-win for both consumers and food vendors.
Too Good To Go is an app that started in 2016 in 17 countries and is now available in the Prairies. Instead of restaurants and food-related businesses throwing out surplus food, consumers can get it at a cheaper price and save it from landfills.
A co-owner of Puffsey Cafe, a Japanese restaurant in downtown Saskatoon, said the app is beneficial for both the consumer and retailers.
“For a customer, they can get like one-third of the price,” said Ken Yang. “For us, we have to throw it out anyway as a waste. So, more or less, we get some money back…. Everything is made that day, so we don’t want to waste it, so we sell it for like a cheaper price.”
Surplus foods are turned into surprise bags featured on the Too Good To Go App. Yang said they had to toss out items such as curry, noodles and rice in the past but thanks to the app, they will no longer be throwing away food. They started selling surprise bags to consumers when the app became available in Saskatoon. [...]

I know you used to have a book wishlist, where did that go?
Yes I did, it was gently retired, though we had some very generous people who sent me books (THANK YOU <3 I continue to be shocked and warmed by this community's generosity) I found that I am much more of an audiobook person. I have trouble keeping information in my mind if I am reading it physically. That being said, I have also begun requesting books from my local library, which has been a massive resource that has assisted me more than I could have imagined before I started using it.
That being said, there are some books that I wish I had access to still, just because they don't have audiobooks. Currently my list is made up of:
Feeling Backward: Loss and the Politics of Queer History by Heather Love: "Feeling Backward" makes an effort to value aspects of historical gay experience that now threaten to disappear, branded as embarrassing evidence of the bad old days before Stonewall. It looks at early-twentieth-century queer novels often dismissed as "too depressing" and asks how we might value and reclaim the dark feelings that they represent. Heather Love argues that instead of moving on, we need to look backward and consider how this history continues to affect us in the present.
Prairie Fairies: A History of Queer Communities and People in Western Canada, 1930-1985 by Valerie Korinek: Prairie Fairies draws upon a wealth of oral, archival, and cultural histories to recover the experiences of queer urban and rural people in the prairies. Focusing on five major urban centres, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Regina, Edmonton, and Calgary, Prairie Fairies explores the regional experiences and activism of queer men and women by looking at the community centres, newsletters, magazines, and organizations that they created from 1930 to 1985.
Racism and the Making of Gay Rights: A Sexologist, His Student, and the Empire of Queer Love by Laurie Marhoefer: Racism and the Making of Gay Rights shows how Hirschfeld laid the groundwork for modern gay rights, and how he did so by borrowing from a disturbing set of racist, imperial, and eugenic ideas. Yet on his journey with Li, Hirschfeld also had inspiring moments - including when he formulated gay rights as a broad, anti-colonial struggle and as a movement that could be linked to Jewish emancipation. Following Hirschfeld and Li in their travels through the American, Dutch, and British empires, from Manila to Tel Aviv to having tea with Langston Hughes in New York City, and then into exile in Hitler's Europe, Laurie Marhoefer provides a vivid portrait of queer lives in the 1930s and of the turbulent, often-forgotten first chapter of gay rights.
If you wanted to fund my ability to get my queer hands on these books, here is the link:

back hooooooome after an absolute nightmare experience trying to get home kjhdgkfjghkdf
so my flight from Edinburgh took me to Calgary, which is a hop skip and a jump away from where I live. problem is, a massive storm hit Calgary last night. a hail storm. followed by a rain storm. which caused massive damages and outages. on top of that, the staff for my airline were just uh. bad! and strung us along for over an hour promising oh no, our flight would be going, until they dropped on us that it was cancelled. dramatic reveal style. literally quoting "I know youve been so eager for an update..." (extended pause) "its cancelled." they then proceeded to literally shout at us- THROUGH THE MIC- to get out of the gate and go get our bags, which they did not tell us where our bags would be, and wouldnt let us talk to them at all
now, at this point, I was exhausted after having flown 8 hours and then having spent 10 hours in this airport, I was panicking because I had no fucking idea what to do and nobody would talk to me, and I was in a lot of pain because I had to be running around the airport which. friendly reminder I am a cane user. so yeah I was trying to figure this all out while actively crying my eyes out to my mom on the phone because now I was facing having to spend the night in the airport with absolutely no idea when I would get a new flight and no idea what to do
I ended up shelling out for another plane ticket to the earliest flight home I could get- I will be contacting the airline for a refund for the flight they cancelled. they did send out a new itinerary, but they were planning on putting me on a flight to Saskatoon, 6.5 hour layover there, and only then would I fly home which. absolutely fucking not. I took the slightly later, but direct flight, and made it home after only a short delay. meanwhile, since I get text notifications from my airline, I am STILL getting update texts because the flights they would've had me on keep getting delayed! I wouldnt even be home yet if I had taken those flights!
I did not sleep last night. I ended up at a table using my neck pillow as a regular pillow, but it was impossible to get comfortable, and also very bright, so I maybe got 45 minutes of sleep. I got a bit more sleep when I was able to go check in at my gate- they closed all security points so we couldnt even go to where we would've had access to couches and benches- but still. running off no sleep after two full days of travel. I am beyond exhausted
but im also very happy to be home

oc incoming+some backstory tweaking! :]
so y’all who follow my mission hill stuff have met caitlin before. at first the whole “haha what if she was kevin’s girlfriend who lives in canada” was just a funny au and then i decided to take that idea and do something a lil different with it :3c
i personally i think it would be cool if kevin's "girlfriend who lives in canada" was a real person but she's not  actually his girlfriend, just a girl who happens to be a friend. they  were assigned to be long distance pen pals 💌✏️for an english unit in like 7th or 8th grade or something. however they continued talking even after the unit was finished and they've been exchanging letters for  years.
kevin only told people for a while that he had a girlfriend in canada because he wasn't secure in his status as A Girlfriendless Loser™️ ((he will probably come clean about it at some point because i think the guilt would get to him.))
and i think it would be cute if one day she surprised him with a quick visit at gus's diner while her dad is blowing thru town on business. it'd be their first time officially meeting in person and nobody can process the fact that she's real. 🤪 but she's real!! she's 18 and she lives in saskatoon, saskatchewan, with her single dad, jack. uwu
also i swear drawing kevin w/ pride gear is like therapy for me it adds ten years to  my life span every time i do it

Understanding Survey Real Property Reports (SRPR) and Ensuring Accurate Property Boundaries
Tumblr media
When it comes to real estate transactions and land development, the accuracy of property boundaries is paramount. A Survey Real Property Report (SRPR) plays a crucial role in this process, providing a detailed depiction of the property in question. Let’s look into what an SRPR entails and why verifying property boundaries is essential.
What is a Survey Real Property Report (SRPR)?
A Survey Real Property Report (SRPR) is a comprehensive document that outlines the precise boundaries, dimensions, and existing structures on a parcel of land. Created by a licensed land surveyor, this report is instrumental in real estate transactions, helping to identify any potential discrepancies between the legal description of the property and its physical reality.
The SRPR serves as a snapshot of the property, illustrating not only the boundaries but also the location of buildings, fences, driveways, and other significant features. It is often required by mortgage lenders, municipal authorities, and potential buyers to ensure that there are no encroachments or boundary issues that could complicate the transfer of ownership or future development.
The Importance of Verification of Property Boundaries
Verifying property boundaries is a critical aspect of land ownership. Boundary disputes can lead to legal challenges, financial loss, and strained relationships between neighbors. Obtaining a Survey Real Property Report in Regina ensures that property owners and prospective buyers can confidently rely on accurately defined boundaries and properly documented property details.
One of the primary benefits of verifying property boundaries through an SRPR is the prevention of encroachments. Encroachments occur when a structure, such as a fence or a shed, extends beyond the legal boundary line onto a neighboring property. These issues can lead to costly legal disputes and may require significant alterations to the property to rectify the situation.
Additionally, an SRPR can uncover any discrepancies between the actual boundaries and those recorded in public records. Over time, boundaries may shift due to natural changes in the landscape, such as erosion or construction activities. A survey ensures that the property's legal description aligns with its physical characteristics, providing peace of mind to all parties involved.
How SRPRs Aid in the Property Transaction Process
In the context of real estate transactions, the Survey Real Property Report in Regina, buyers and sellers obtain can be a decisive factor. For buyers, it confirms that the property they are purchasing aligns with their expectations and legal descriptions. For sellers, it provides a clear and indisputable representation of what is being sold, minimizing the risk of future disputes.
Mortgage lenders also rely on SRPRs to assess the property's value and ensure that there are no boundary-related issues that could affect the property's marketability. An accurate SRPR can expedite the financing process, as it provides lenders with the confidence that the property is free from encroachments and other boundary concerns.
A Survey Real Property Report (SRPR) is an essential tool in the verification of property boundaries, safeguarding against potential legal disputes and ensuring a smooth transaction process. For those involved in real estate, whether as buyers, sellers, or lenders, the importance of an accurate SRPR cannot be overstated. By securing a Survey Real Property Report in Regina, residents and developers can confidently navigate the complexities of property ownership, knowing that their boundaries are clearly defined and legally sound.

Got any idea and advice about flying?
I answered an ask about this awhile back!
TL;DR:
Give yourself plenty of time -- this is probably the best advice and can iron out a lot of the stressors
Familiarize yourself with where you need to be -- it may help reduce some anxiety if you know where you are
Figure out if meds will help if you're nervous
Know that your cabin and flight crew are extremely well-trained (and better trained than you know). They're not just "waiters in the sky," their training is gruelling and the fact that they make it look so easy is a testament to their skill. :)
Bonus advice: If you're in Canada, a NEXUS card is one of the best travel hacks, because you can use the NEXUS priority lanes at security even if you're not travelling to the US. It's not much of a benefit at all airports (I'm looking at you Winnipeg/Regina/Saskatoon) especially if they're small and don't have much of a lineup to begin with, but I find helps immensely in the bigger airports. Plus, some credit cards refund you the application fee as part of their perks. I think in the US the Global Entry card (which I believe is the equivalent?) gets you TSA Pre-Check which is a similar concept re: priority security lanes. Again, it's all about giving yourself extra time so you don't need to rush.

It took a Saskatoon jury less than two hours to reject Travis Patron's claim that he followed an off-duty RCMP officer around a downtown mall, yelling racial insults, as a matter of national security. "Having a jury of his peers, of Canadians, saying no, this wasn't right and what you did was wrong, is exactly what our society stands for and that upheld the administration of justice," prosecutor Lana Morelli said in an interview. "Some of the things that Mr. Patron put forward as part of his defence in my mind didn't make sense, because it's not an issue of national security that two individuals that have different skin colours are walking around together."

Managed Print Services and Printer Solutions in Saskatoon
In today’s fast-paced business environment, managing print resources efficiently is crucial for optimizing operational costs and boosting productivity. This is where Managed Print Services (MPS) come into play. For businesses in Saskatoon, understanding MPS and leveraging effective printer solutions can lead to significant benefits. This article delves into what managed print services entail, the advantages of adopting these solutions, and how local businesses in Saskatoon can benefit from them.
Understanding Managed Print Services (MPS)
Managed Print Services refer to the outsourcing of an organization’s printing needs to a specialized provider. This service typically includes everything from printer management multifunction device lease and maintenance to supply management and cost analysis. The goal is to streamline the printing process, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency.
Key Components of MPS:
Assessment and Analysis: MPS providers begin by conducting a comprehensive assessment of a company’s current print environment. This includes evaluating the number of printers, usage patterns, and existing costs. The data collected is analyzed to identify areas where efficiencies can be gained.
Optimization: Based on the assessment, MPS providers recommend and implement changes to optimize the print environment. This may involve consolidating printers, upgrading to more efficient models, or implementing print policies to reduce unnecessary printing.
Management and Maintenance: Once the optimization plan is in place, the MPS provider takes over the management and maintenance of the print environment. This includes regular maintenance, monitoring printer performance, and managing supplies such as paper and toner.
Cost Management: A critical aspect of MPS is cost control. Providers often offer transparent pricing models, including pay-per-page or subscription-based models, which help businesses predict and manage printing costs more effectively.
Reporting and Analytics: MPS providers offer detailed reporting and analytics to track printing activities and costs. This data helps businesses make informed decisions and further optimize their print environment.
Advantages of Managed Print Services
Cost Savings: By consolidating printers and implementing efficient printing practices, businesses can significantly reduce their printing costs. MPS providers often use data analytics to identify areas of waste and recommend cost-saving measures.
Increased Efficiency: Managed Print Services streamline the printing process, reducing downtime and ensuring that printers are always operational. This leads to improved productivity as employees spend less time dealing with printing issues.
Enhanced Security: MPS providers implement robust security measures to protect sensitive information. This includes secure print release, user authentication, and encrypted data transmission.
Environmental Impact: MPS helps businesses reduce their environmental footprint by implementing eco-friendly practices. This includes reducing paper waste, recycling cartridges, and using energy-efficient printers.
Focus on Core Business: By outsourcing print management, businesses can focus on their core activities without being bogged down by the complexities of managing a print environment.

Choosing the Right MPS Provider in Saskatoon
Selecting the right Managed Print Services provider is crucial for maximizing the benefits of MPS. Here are some factors to consider when choosing a provider in Saskatoon:
Experience and Reputation: Look for providers with a proven track record and positive reviews. Experienced providers are more likely to deliver effective solutions and reliable support.
Service Offerings: Evaluate the range of services offered by each provider. Ensure that they offer comprehensive MPS solutions, including assessment, optimization, management, and support.
Customization: Choose a provider that offers tailored solutions based on your specific needs. Customization ensures that the solutions align with your business goals and requirements.
Cost Transparency: Opt for providers that offer transparent pricing models. Clear and predictable pricing helps in budgeting and cost management.
Customer Support: Effective customer support is essential for addressing issues promptly. Ensure that the provider offers responsive and accessible support services.
Conclusion
Managed Print Services represent a strategic approach to managing print resources, offering numerous benefits such as cost savings, increased efficiency, enhanced security, and environmental sustainability. For businesses in Saskatoon, leveraging local MPS providers can lead to tailored solutions that address specific needs and challenges. By carefully selecting a reputable provider and implementing effective print management strategies, businesses can optimize their printing operations, reduce costs, and focus on their core activities, ultimately driving greater success and growth.
