На этой неделе американскому энтузиасту Sampson удалось покорить три мировых рекорда в бенчмарках Cinebench при помощи такого процессора с разгоном «на воздухе», установив планку для соперников на недосягаемых ранее уровнях.

Как известно, тесты Cinebench хорошо масштабируют производительность по мере увеличения количества ядер процессора, а если дополнительно повышать их частоты, то результаты вообще окажутся заоблачными. Пока Sampson не брался за жидкий азот, хотя на иллюстрации к описанию его свежих достижений на сайте HWBot уже есть иллюстрация с установленным на материнскую плату резервуаром для жидкого азота. Новыми результатами экстремального разгона процессора AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 7995WX энтузиаст обещает порадовать аудиторию на следующей неделе, а пока он зарегистрировал в базе данных HWBot три новых рекордных результата, связанных с использованием пусть и довольно производительного, но номинально воздушного процессорного охладителя IceGiant ProSiphon Elite.

Весящий два килограмма п��оцессорный кулер с четырьмя вентиляторами использует эффект испарительной камеры для быстрого отвода тепла от крышки процессора, габаритные размеры системы охлаждения в сборе достигают 164 251 104 мм. Этот охладитель был установлен на материнскую плату ASUS WS TRX50-SAGE, которая поддерживает процессоры представленной недавно серии AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7000 WX. По соседству работал комплект памяти типа DDR5-6400 марки G.Skill совокупным объёмом 128 Гбайт, но в отдельных тестах его объём удваивался до 256 Гбайт. Вся система была подключена к блоку питания ASUS THOR мощностью 1500 Вт. Как уточняется, в пике один только процессор на частотах порядка 4,8 ГГц на всех ядрах потреблял около 980 Вт электроэнергии, его температура достигала 102 градусов Цельсия.

В тесте Cinebench R15 данный процессор на частоте 4875 МГц набрал 23 697 баллов, в тесте Cinebench R20 он набрал 61 538 баллов на частоте 4816 МГц, а в Cinebench R23 (Multi Core with BenchMate) был достигнут результат 161 259 баллов при частоте 4791 МГц. По сути, новинка AMD процессор Intel Xeon W9-3495X в последнем из тестов обходит по быстродействию примерно на 22 %, хотя последний тоже обладает 96 ядрами.

NASA Completes Study of Future ‘Ice Giant’ Mission Concepts

A NASA-led and NASA-sponsored study of potential future missions to the mysterious “ice giant” planets Uranus and Neptune has been released—the first in a series of mission studies NASA will conduct in support of the next Planetary Science Decadal Survey. The results of this and future studies will be used as the Decadal Survey deliberates on NASA’s planetary science priorities from 2022-2032. The study identifies the scientific questions an ice giant mission should address, and discusses various instruments, spacecraft, flight-paths and technologies that could be used.

"This study argues the importance of exploring at least one of these planets and its entire environment, which includes surprisingly dynamic icy moons, rings, and bizarre magnetic fields," said Mark Hofstadter of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, one of the two co-chairs of the science team that produced the report. The European Space Agency (ESA) also participated in the study.
