Os 20 álbuns que podem ter-te escapado | 2020
Tumblr media
Baxter Dury - The Night Chancers
Tumblr media
Poliça - When We Stay Alive
Tumblr media
O título deste disco, ‘When We Stay Alive‘, está intimamente ligado à vida de Channy Leaneagh.
Yves Tumor - Heaven To A Tortured Mind
Tumblr media
Porridge Radio - Every Bad
Tumblr media
Hamilton Leithauser - The Loves Of Your Life
Tumblr media
Tom Mish & Yussef Days - What Kinda Music
Tumblr media
King Krule - Man Alive!
Tumblr media
Chamam-lhe new jazz e tem ganhado grande notoriedade graças a artistas como Nubya Garcia, The Comet Is Coming, Kamasi Washington e muitos outros.
Pottery - Welcome To Bobby's Motel
Tumblr media
Pottery diz-vos alguma coisa?
Mild Orange - Mild Orange
Tumblr media
Hinds - The Prettiest Curse
Tumblr media
Sports Team - Deep Down Happy
Tumblr media

Every Baby Name We Could Possibly Think Of
Naming your baby is a big decision, and with endless options, it can also be a difficult one. Whether you're going the traditional route or want something more unique (if so, read this first!) it's helpful to have a little, or a lot, of inspiration. Ahead, you'll find nearly every baby name we could think of (close to 1,000!). These aren't just random names we found in a book or concocted ourselves - they're almost all monikers we've heard being used, or we actually know someone who goes by the name.

In 1994, Ann duCille proclaimed that black feminism occupies a precarious status within the academy, due, in part, to its lack of a disciplinary home and the pervasive denigration of black feminist intellectual and affective labor. More than two decades later, black feminism’s status is equally, if not more, precarious, particularly as it has been relegated to the bastion of identity politics, a designation every rigorous critic now regards as passé. At the same time, amidst growing concerns around the ontological status of black life, the neoliberal rollback of civil rights gains, and persistent theorizations of post-911 conditions, activists, scholars, and cultural critics alike are reaching back for and stretching out toward black feminist analytics, methods, and politics. They have lauded the import of black feminism’s theorization(s) of historical and current conditions, asserting that black feminism cultivates inroads to freedom. Toward this end, critics have attempted to harness and actualize black feminist futures, as suggested by the various activist projects, special journal issues and articles, and performance workshops that have brandished some iteration of the appellation “black feminist future(s).”
*This is a list of of books–published in 2016–that were compiled for the Black Feminist Futures Symposium at Northwestern University. The Black Feminist Futures Symposium, organized by Shoniqua Roach, Chelsea M. Frazier, and Brittnay Proctor, took place on Friday, May 20th-Saturday, May 21st, 2016 at the Mary and Leigh Block Museum of Art (Northwestern University, Evanston Campus). The symposium invested in generating a radically interdisciplinary conversation that engages questions around black feminist futurity. Participants surveyed interdisciplinary discourses within and beyond the field of black feminist theory to investigate the conditions of possibility for black feminist futurity within the academy. Speakers included Kara Keeling, Omise’eke Tinsley, Kai M. Green, Vanessa Agard-Jones, Jayna Brown, Nicole Fleetwood, C. Riley Snorton, Zakiyyah Jackson, Tina Campt, Jafari Allen, Matt Richardson, Cathy Cohen, Treva Lindsey, Roderick Ferguson, Monica Miller, and Aliyyah Abdur-Rahman.

Evidence of Blood
Tumblr media
Mary A. Blood and her lifelong colleague, Ida B. Riley founded the Chicago School of Oratory in the late 1800s. They opened the school in preparation for the Columbia Exhibition World’s Fair, hence the name of the school which lives today.
Blood’s life is poorly recorded. Riley’s even more so. Bloods first office at Columbia, on the 2nd floor of a building at the intersection of Van Buren and Michigan, overlooked the South Loop. Just two blocks south of her office was the maw of the vice district, where morphine, gambling and brothels abounded. It is hardly any wonder that Blood became involved with the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, which fought for the abolition of violence against women. In fact, Blood was a well loved and respected member, who offered lessons in movement and oratory at many of the meetings, and on the road at their national conferences. Records of her readings and lessons are in The Signal, the most important women’s newspaper in the nation at the time, a weekly publication by the WCTU. It is some of the only records existing on Blood. THANK YOU, women of the WCTU, for your fastidious indexing of these weekly publications. Through this thankless task, I was able to find evidence of Blood.
Blood and Riley wrote a four-volume curriculum guide to oratory called The Psychological Development of Expression. When I ordered my first edition, I was surprised to find in the colophon it was owned by a Miss Baker of Longwood Avenue in Chicago, clearly a textbook from when she was at Columbia in 1896. You will note in the marginalia of the photo that Riley read a Robert Browning poem, New Year’s Morning on October 6, 1896.
Happy New Year from the extraordinary women who founded The Columbia School of Oratory and dedicated their lives to promote women speaking in public--as necessary today as ever.
