I can fully second what you said. Although it's okay to be scared too, but please remember that online fandom gives you tools to keep out of fire and not put yourself at risk of anything but angry words of someone with no importance. I think the issue with "the block button is here" is an approach. It feels natural to you, because you know not everything is for you,, you carve out your own space, and that's fine. But for them, if they see something, the thing is on their territory, not other way round. It's not enough to look away, they want it gone from their space - and their space is for them the entirety of where they look.

If there is light shining in your eyes, you just move out of its path or hide in shadow, they want the source of light gone but won't move an inch.

Draycest for me is very appealing when Drayden is aware of Drayton's crush, of Drayton's deep, deep desire. I saw some scenario on other side of fence that Drayton possibly could be a pretty much free use slut to try and make Drayden furious, maybe jealous, definitely angry for him. There is an element that Drayton would trust him, would allow himself to be vulnerable and open in his grandfather's arms and it's a rare thing for this guy... But then, Drayden might not even know where such behavior stems from. Maybe though it awakens something more protective or possessive within him...

I love the thought of Drayden harboring his own desire, one that repulses him to no end. Drayden is a type to stick to roles, he's an upstanding man, a mayor, a public person. That little perversion, that dark lust, the fact that he looks at his own grandson and wants. I like the thought that dragon trainers are a bit specific and pretty dragon-like in some behaviors and Drayden is an old man, tempered, wise dragon type... And then there is something that isn't even denied to him but he has to deny himself.

I don’t know much about the character themselves, I’ve mostly just seen the amazing artwork of the manga, but she has the colouring and the sort of elegant but sweet ‘good girl’ look to her I imagine you having.

The not-so-literal death of the author

An educational post for the Naruto fandom, as I have been made aware that some folks genuinely do not know what this phrase means.

I get it! If you’re a non-fluent speaker - or if you have just never come across this phrase in literary circles! - seeing ‘death of the author’ everywhere looks pretty scary.

But, uh, I promise that I am not advocating the literal murder of Masashi Kishimoto.

In fact, for all my grumbling about his atrocious writing of queer and female characters, I do respect that he was insanely busy and under horrendous pressure. Which isn’t an excuse, but it’s something.

‘Death of the author’, or ‘la mort d’auteur’ if you’re feeling French, is a theory of literary criticism. It was first coined by Roland Barthes, to argue against the concept that there was a singular ‘correct’ interpretation of a text that could be accessed by studying an author’s proposed intentions and biography.

Death of the Author suggests that there is no originality in the world - the author is not ‘creating’ a story, they are merely a ‘scriptor’ who is reproducing pre-existing tropes and themes. It also suggests that once a text is published, an author revokes all right to guide how readers interpret it.

I.e., As soon as a creator puts a piece of writing or a comic - or a tv series, or a film - out into the world, their intentions no longer matter. There is only the ‘canon’ content, which readers are free to interpret however they please.

Obviously, Death of the Author is only one branch of literary criticism. But in fandom terms, it’s a very useful tool for discussing an author’s place in determining how fans should react to their work.

Personally, I believe that it is important to understand an author’s personal biases in order to criticise media - the famous example being the fascist themes in Attack on Titan. But especially in terms of deciding what the ‘correct’ interpretation of canon is within a fandom, it’s equally important to remind fans that a lot of us literally do not care what the creator thinks, and don’t let that define our understanding of canon.

You are stuck at Sakura part 1 while everyone moved on. You’re too focused on Sakura’s flaws when a true Naruto fan understands her. Kishimoto said that Sakura reflects a person’s traits in real life. The reality. The true nature of a human being. You saying she is trash basically translates you’re stuck in a delusion of perfect hinata. You ignored everything good involving Sakura and focused on her flaws, her strong personality is her strength. Or maybe you feel inferior when someone shows a strong personality. Inferiority complex? You turned a blind eye when it came to her saving and protecting Naruto and tried to argue that it was all for Sasuke only. When clearly Hinata’s the one who only focuses on one guy and practically ignores everyone. Almost in every panel she appears she could only say, “N-Naruto-kun”.

In the war arc where poor Neji died (he didn’t deserve to die for the sake of NaruHina), his corpse was lying in front of Naruto and Hinata and the girl had the time to think about Naruto’s big and strong hand. *cough cough* …that's screwed…

Since they were young Hinata follows Naruto almost everywhere, hiding and just watched😁 She never really knew Naruto because she didn't have the nerve to talk to him. She was in love with the idea of him. When she gathered up the courage to approach him, this was regarded as friendly by Naruto. Not romantic. She in love with the idea of him and his kindness towards her because no one else did these things for her before.

Again you keep on underestimating Naruto’s ability to love like other Hinatard. Because he didn’t receive love first hand? Are you disregarding Iruka? Mr. Jiraiya? And any other characters who showed him what love truly meant? He truly loved Sakura but couldn't confess because he felt unworthy because of the promise. It was said in the manga chapter 457-549. Then was confronted by Sai which led to her "fake" confession even if it meant Naruto hating her afterwards. Overall, Naruto feels unworthy of Sakura's love because he couldn't fulfill his promise to her and Sakura feels unworthy of his love because she knows she hurt his feelings and was clueless about how much of a burden the promise of a lifetime really is. Sakura wanted to lessen the burden and carry it all to herself. All for Naruto.

Don't get me started with the fight against Orochimaru when Naruto turned into 4 tails because of Sasuke. Sakura knew this was hurting him and chose to charge at him even though she absolutely knew that she was going to get hurt. All for Naruto.

Sakura has this habit of blaming herself once in a while because she knows her mistakes. She’s perfectly  aware of how she treated Naruto back in the genin days. But did she deserve all the hate? No. The problem with some people is once they see something wrong, they refuse to see the improvement of that person. Close-minded I should say. The important thing is she learned and she was just a child. Gosh the repetition and the ignorance of Hinatards. What I was pointing out was that in order to save Naruto’s life, Sakura contributes by offering her skills which are her medic skills. If it was not because of her determination to keep him alive, Naruto would be long gone. Did you not understand that? That’s your problem.

We love Sakura because she’s grown from her fangirl self to a selfless woman. She’s strong. The strongest kunoichi in konoha rather. She’s kind and funny. Always straightforward. She used to be weak but her fierce determination made her the admirable woman that she is today. Sakura’s willing to accept the hate if it means of protecting both of her teammates.

You’re annoyed at young and teen Sakura and I’m annoyed at young, teen and adult Hinata. Suck it up.

Come, come, have a seat. I will now hijack this ask to talk about something that’s been in the back of my mind for the better half of 2021. Throughout my soliloquy please have in mind that I’m not talking directly and specifically at you - this is a general matter I’ve been meaning to address for a while and never found the right words or the chance to do it before. I thank you for this opportunity and apologise in advance for making this so long.

I guess I’ll just hit this ball out of the park from the get go:

The Clockmaster is a work of fiction I’m creating and this is where my input into its meaning ends. I, the creator, am not responsible for curating or managing people’s personal understanding of the story and its characters outside the text itself.

What I mean is, I shouldn’t and will not tell people (read: fandom) how to understand the story or what the characters motivations or feelings are outside the comic. I will do my best as a writer/artist to convey the things I want to convey in the story, and at the end of the day everything is up to readers’ interpretation and I should have no input into that personal interpretation. In other words, death of the author.

And then, there’s this another matter I’m getting general vibes is a thing, and I assume it’s a thing because of the way I, as a predominantly online creator, came to be and how my works started out. 

There’s this misconception that the characters in The Clockmaster are my… precious little babies? My sweet little OCs that I would protect at all cost? And the truth is, they’re as much of a “precious little OC” to me as Frodo is to Tolkien or Naruto is to Masashi Kishimoto. And you wouldn’t ask Kishimoto for permission to ship him with Sasuke or ask him if you can make an AU, would you.

This is a tough and thin line for me to balance on - to be myself online without building this fake business façade around me, but also to exist in such a way where people don’t develop overly attached parasocial relationships with me and think that if they “disrespect my OCs with a bad take I will hate them forever” or something in the same vein.

Are these characters important to me? Yes, of course – I am pouring my life into this comic after all. But should my personal attachment of an author to its creation stop you from having fun with your own fan-interpretation of it? Obviously not.

If you want to make shippy fanart, do. If you don’t, then don’t. I believe the author and their feelings on the matter should never be in the equation at any point. The fact that in this day and age you can reach me on twitter or tumblr changes nothing.

So tl;dr and I guess to answer your question…

see, eren isnt necessarily a fuckboy. in fact, hes very loyal! he doesnt really think that way about any girls or guys except you. but hes popular romantically and had a reputation for sleeping around before he met you (not that theres anything wrong with that but ya know word travels fast across campus). plus, cmon the dude is in a frat, super hot and has a tongue piercing. he cant blame anyone for thinking he is a fuckboy bc he exudes the energy.

you are kind of the complete opposite. you dont really enjoy parties and you keep to yourself. you're a total wreck when it comes to flirting and your kinda oblivious to whenever people like you. you dont have many friends and are a bigger fan of 2d people than 3d.

either way eren finds you so so so cute. he first approached you at one of his frat parties. your roommates convinced you to come after she said that someone (read: connie) had a dance dance revolution mat, but you kinda just stuck around in a corner staring at your cup once you lost them. he looks you up and down-- your outfit was pretty cute, a short plaid orange pleated skirt, dress shirt, orange cardigan and black beret laying neatly upon your head. and your face... he couldn't help himself but try to talk to you. you were really anxious because wahhh scary sports guy you dont know but he was kinda instantly comforting? in a way? and he was freaking pretty. he looked like a final fantasy character--long haired characters were your type. the rest was kind of history.

a lot of people are shocked when they find out your dating bc you two are so different (some people are surprise eren “dates” at all) but no one dares question your relationship when they see how much eren dotes on you. he has so many polaroids of you in his wallet-- from the many arcade dates you bring him on where you decimate him at almost every game, you awkwardly posing in the hentai section of bookstores, or just candids of you being intensely focused on a puzzle in a game. whenever you guys go out to eat and somethings wrong with your meal, he'll send it back (in a polite way, of course, but hes still assertive.) or if you buy like a figurine and its misisng something hes marching up to the cashier stand for you. he always has an arm around your waist or is holding is hand in yours. sometimes you just cling onto his arm and rest your head on it (hes comfy!!!!! and you are always tired) your both pretty clingy, but you get kinda awkward when you two are around people you know so he just kinda subtly holds you as to not make a scene. its nice. hes comfy.

youve got dual monitors, a pc you made yourself, rgb keyboard, the whole nine yards. all your consoles are up to date and you keep a handheld system on you at all times. you spend most your weekends watching anime and movies and tv shows and your shelves are piled high with books and comic books. eren literally does not understand any of it. when you told him you built your pc he goes "you made all those microchippy things? youre soooo smart babe". when you talk about some of your weirder or more complicated animes he nods along but honestly he gets so lost ("so like, lemme get this straight, the kids dad's wife ate his mom?" "yeah but like she was turned into a titan so she didn't realllllly know it was the dads wife, but like she literally walks past this titan shifter so i think she knew." "thats crazy.") and he will never understand the point of otome games when hes literally right there. he actually has a really bad habit of getting jealous of characters you have a crush on but you just find it funny. sometimes he gets an ego boost when they look like him because even if they look like him he is actually real so they can suck it.

hes rlly supportive tho. erens a rlly passionate person and he loves you a lot so he pours a lot of passion into what you do. if you are into esports/fps games hes cheers you on all the time and does all the raging for you ("BABE THAT GUY IS STREAM SNIPING! one of his favorite things to do with you is cuddle and watch anime. usually he lies his face on your thighs or chest while watching and you play with his hair or he holds you in his chest and you play with one of his hands while the other goes behind his head. he grew up on some of the classics like naruto sailor moon one piece pokemon and dbz but he never got super into it until he started dating you. you put him on to soooo many good shows (cartoons, anime, and live action) hes both a crier and he is a get-angrier(?). he gets mad on characters behalfs and you have to pause the show so he can rant about how annoying someone is or he feels so bad for someone so he has to take a minute because hes tearing up. he likes slice of life anime because the friendships <3 theyre so wholesome and they remind him of him armin and mikasa but he also likes shounen because it is entertaining to watch fights. he gets really into them actually. he also has this really bad habit of whenever there is a character with no parents or a dead mom he goes "oh same" or "welcome to the club buddy" under his breath. when theres a cute couple in an anime you both like guys get matching keychains of them unless one of them dies because he thinks its bad luck. his favorite animes are haikyuu, your lie in april and code geass.

you are equally supportive of erens volleyball career. you know all the rules because sports anime and you actually find yourself really liking it in 3d as well (it is lacking in bromance and screaming but you let it slide). you go to all his games and he always texts you before his practices. has a habit of kissing you before games and one day after he kisses you go "gg ez win" as a JOKE but then they like decimate their long time rival marley university and get into nationals (is that a thing for volleyball idk sports) so hes convinced its because you did your "gamer magic". now every time after getting his good luck kiss he interlocks your pinkies and you go "gg ez win" and he goes “yes.” because to this day he doesnt know what it means (he thinks googling it is like breaking the magic)

R-W-B-Y is not special in This regard. I promise lots of series get treated this way. You can not like that some people do this. That’s fair. But don’t act like R-W-B-Y is the first fandom to experience this.

Rewrites are disrespectful!

I turn your attention to Naruto, GoT and marvel. Who all have significant rewrites under their belt on YouTube. People want different things from a show then you. And describing the ideal product for them.

R-W-B-Y is not being victimized by people doing this. You don’t have to lash out at people doing this.

These guys are asshats. Fuck everyone who says this. But brushing everyone who criticizes R-W-B-Y as saying this is just as immature. And highly reductive. By saying all R-W-B-Y critique is people using this. You’re not engaging with them at all.

For example many black Critics complained about white fang portrayal while Monty was alive. You just weren’t paying attention to them. You cannot just dismiss their complaints under that blanket.

In Conclusion

R-W-B-Y is not special. It’s a fandom. And like every fandom. It will have a hatedom. Nothing R-W-B-Y’s RWDE or HTDM is anything special in the grand scheme of things. It’s not being unfairly bullied compared to other shows. It’s being treated like every other fandom does.

It’s a show. 90% or you reading this are old enough to know better. It’s not that fucking serious if you see someone have a opinion you don’t like on the internet. As someone who has bounced from fandom to fandom for years I beg you to interact with other ones to see common fandom etiquette because a shit ton of you don’t have it.

Critics splintered off and used the RWDE tag so you don’t have to see it. Don’t actively search for stuff to get you upset. Enjoy R-W-B-Y for yourself. Don’t get mad other people don’t.

6. What’s the last line you wrote?

Sadly, the last fanfic line I've written is a littol bit illegal to share (zine NDAs. But it's a BANGER I PROMISE), so instead, the one from my silly mushroom toad comic is "Mr. Squatworth has been attached to poisonous varieties lately. Come back in a week."

53. What is the most-used tag on your ao3?

Probably some version of "no beta we die like [insert character who died in this media, probably in a heartwrenching way]." No beta we died like Odasaku, no beta we die like Diluc's dad, etc. Or "canon-typical violence." :) Can't write without at least a teaspoon of it.

73. What do you tend to get complimented on the most about your writing?

Huh. Never really thought about it. I think it's my characterization? A lot of my characterization comes through in moments shared between two characters so I also get praised for my character interactions. People have said I do a good job of humanizing fictional people and I'm very glad for it.

Which makes me happy. It's ironic considering how much time I spend dithering over Themes and Narratives when really, my best writing happens in tiny moments between people.

66. What’s a fun fact about [insert fic]?

In my opinion, everything about March on Through the Rain is fun! It's got codependency, obsessive loving relationships, enough gore to satisfy at least a passing horror fan, and Diluc's dad doesn't die--what more can you ask for? Yesiplayfavoritesamongmyficshehehehehehehecanyoutell

One fun fact is that it's still got draftable bits and is not actually abandoned! Kind of. Here, I have headcanons for all the archons that Kaeya ends up fistfighting in the second part--Fontaine's is based off of Konan from Naruto.

Anime I Watched This Fall

My first semester of college is officially over and the December holidays are upon us! I hoped to make one of these posts sooner, but I have been incredibly busy with schoolwork. Now that things have slowed down, let’s take sometime to reflect on things I’ve watched. 

These anime are listed in chronological order and encompass everything I’ve watched from 9/1/2020 - 12/15/2020

Like always, they will be rated on a 1-10 scale; 1 meaning complete garbage, 10 meaning masterpiece. I will offer my thoughts on what I did/didn’t like about each show!

1. The God of High School - 6/10 

Despite the stellar animation from MAPPA and my high expectations, I was really disappointed by how this series was treated. Most of the story’s crucial elements were handled poorly. I finished this series feeling more confused about the plot than when I first began. The power system is really cool, but poorly explained. More time should have been spent on exposition and world building for this series, instead the fights were given the most screen time. 

2.  Doukyuusei - 7/10 

I really liked the style of Doukyuusei. Granted, this was another movie I chose to watch primarily because of the hype surrounding it. The dynamic between Kusakabe and Sajou is an interesting one, and I also enjoy how the movies different acts were separated by the seasons. However, there's nothing that really sets Doukyuusei apart from other romance movies, its a little generic. Still, I enjoyed it nonetheless. 

3.  Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu 2nd Season - 8/10 

My opinions on Re:Zero’s second season are biased. This was, by far, the sequel I was most hyped for during the summer/fall anime season. I was so happy to see the story’s continuation and I’m looking forward to the season’s second part coming sometime in January. Re:Zero is one of my all time favorite series because of the way it handles it characters and power dynamics. I also really enjoy the show’s psychological aspects. If you haven’t already, give Re:Zero a try! 

4. Saint☆Oniisan (Movie + OVA) - 8/10

This was a wonderful comedy. I wasn’t sure how the subject of Jesus and Buddha living together would be tackled, but it was handled wonderfully. I was laughing for pretty much the entire movie. I love the art style and little references to both Buddhism and Christianity, plus the incorporation of Japanese culture. Saint Oniisan is a bright comedy, with two eccentric main characters. If you like a show that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and need a good laugh, I can’t recommend this more.

5. Clannad: After Story - 10/10 

Never, while watching anime, did I cry as much as I did while watching Clannad: After Story. I didn’t realize how much I related to Okazaki until I saw him grow up in After Story. I was left sobbing, especially after episode 18. I still, to this day, cannot listen to the Dango song without tearing up. The original Clannad is nothing special, but the continuation of its story its something heartfelt, emotional, and down-to-earth. I love Kyoto Animation with all my heart, and Clannad made me appreciate everything the studio has done just a little bit more. Thank you Clannad, for reminding me about the kind of person I strive to be. 

6. Nakitai Watashi wa Neko wo Kaburu - 5.5/10

The art in A Whisker Away was beautiful. The story itself, however, is nothing too enjoyable. I found it difficult to like our protagonist or her love interest. Nothing about this movie is inherently memorable. The emotional climax came far too early which made the second half of the film seem long and drawn out.  All in all, the movie has a wonderful concept, I just believe it could have been so much more emotional than it was. When I watch a move, I like to empathize with the characters. It’s difficult to do when the characters aren’t given the proper exposition to be empathized with. 

7.  Shikioriori - 6/10

This is less of a movie and more of a collection of short stories. Flavors of Youth is something you shouldn’t watch on an empty stomach, all of the food looks incredible. The same cannot beside for the rest of this feature. The stories themselves seems heavily clichéd. Much like A Whisker Away, the initial premise is intriguing, but the execution results in something that comes across as trying too hard and carries no emotional weight with the viewer. If you plan on watching, pay more attention to the artwork and animation than the actual plot. You won’t be missing anything. 

8. Vinland Saga - 7/10

Vinland Saga helped me get out of the rut that Clannad: After Story. Not only does this show have a great story, its action packed with lots of interesting fights. I especially enjoyed all the Nordic history embedded within the show. Its really unlike any of the other historical anime I’ve watched. I will say, it’s gory. But, compared to all the other things I watched this time around, I finished this series the quickest. Its good, its graphic, its fast paced! 

9.  Mononoke Hime - 7/10

It’s ironic considering how much anime I’ve watched that I have yet to watch all of the most classic Studio Ghibli films. Princess Mononoke is grittier than most other Ghibli films I’ve seen, but it’s message is positive and its characters are wonderful. I can’t really speak ill towards classics like these. I guess maybe my one complaint is that this movie could’ve been a faster pace. Other than that... I really enjoyed everything Princess Mononoke offered! I understand why it’s so popular.  

10. Howl no Ugoku Shiro - 8.5/10 

Can you believe it took me this long to finally watch Howl’s Moving Castle? Me neither!! This movie is so endearingly beautiful. I loved every second of it, from the characters to the soundtrack. So many iconic things come from just this one movie. I would like to take this time to thank my best friend for reminding me that Studio Ghibli films are wonderful! Thank you for watching this with me, I loved it! All in all, I regret not watching this sooner! 

11. Toradora! - 6.5/10 

Toradora took me a while to finish, just because I lost interest about halfway through. But, I powered through it, and ended up really enjoying the show! I’m not the biggest fan of the ending, but that’s just a personal preference. Somehow, this show also made me cry? I’m not entirely sure why because Toradora! is probably the thing farthest from sad. Apart from the show’s dull slice of life moments, it was super cute! A much needed light-hearted romance. 

12. New Initial D Movie: Legend 1 - 5/10 

Full disclosure, this is the only thing related to Initial D that I’ve ever watched. My band and I watched this expecting to hear some of that iconic Initial D music, itself all we got was a mildly confusing story about different types of cars. It was cliché and frankly a little boring. Although, I am still considering watching the original Initial D just so I can hear the music in the way it was original intended. I’ve got no other opinions on this movie. It’s best not to watch these movies without the context from the rest of the franchise.  

13.  Uchuu Patrol Luluco - 7.5/10

I didn’t really understand why people enjoy studio Trigger so much until I watched Space Patrol Luluco. I loved all the fun references to other studio Trigger works. I loved the humor, and I loved all the bright colors. The animation was extremely high energy, and the art style fits the show’s premise. Each episode was only 12 minutes long so it was a super quick binge. If you’re looking for something quick, light-hearted and comical, this is the perfect show to watch.

14. Orange - 7/10 

I owe a big thanks to a tumblr mutual for recommending this show to me! This holds the honor of making me cry by episode 3! I honestly did not expect the subject matter of this show to be as dark as it was. Usually when I see the genre ‘shoujo’ I do not associate it with a love story like that of Orange. The heavy subject matter made it a little too close to home for me, but I still really enjoyed this series. It reminds me off all the good times I had with my friends in high school, and of all the regrets I carry with myself to this day. 

15. 3-gatsu no Lion - 7.5/10 

March Comes in Like a Lion is another show that was a bit of a slow burn for me. Each episode left me feeling emotionally drained, so I had to take a lot of breaks while I was working on watching this series. Shaft, the studio behind this anime, holds a special place in my heart because I loved their work on the Monogatari Series. March Comes in Like a Lion is a little different. It’s driving force it is characters, and it was cathartic to watch our main character transform through the entire duration of the first season. I know the show’s second season is much better, so I’ll be starting that soon! 

16. Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei - 8/10 

I loved how artsy and smart The Tatami Galaxy is, but honestly I couldn’t watch too much at once cause it would hurt my head. I also couldn’t watch this show while I was tired because the speaking rate is much faster than typical anime. The Tatami Galaxy is so unique for its medium. I loved the different time loops and the crazy animation. The characters were fascinating. The dialogue, although very fast, it also fantastic. There’s an element of humor to this unique story telling, and I enjoyed ever minute of it! 

Currently Watching:

Hunter x Hunter - 6.5/10 (As of Episode 30)

I pride myself in having watched a lot of shounen anime, but I was reluctant to start Hunter x Hunter for years because I thought I would find it boring. I was oh so very wrong. Considering great shows like Naruto and Fairy Tail that fall under the same category, I expected Hunter x Hunter to be subpar in comparison. It gets a low score for two reasons. One, the power system was introduced a little too late and now I’m wondering if all the fights post episode 30 will involved nen in some way, shape, or form. Two, its still on hiatus. 

Two Cursed Additions For This List

Please to do not let these be representative of my anime taste. 

1.  Yarichin☆B*tch-bu - 4/10

I am a CLOWN for not knowing this was 18+. The only reason I watched this was to see why everyone was talking about the pink-haired boy with the glasses and tongue piecing. I know why now, and I regret it. This was a massive mistake on my part. But hey, at the least the art and ending song kinda slap? 

2. Euphoria (Dropped After 1 Episode) - 2/10

If you know what I’m talking about when I say Euphoria, I am so sorry. And no, I am not talking about the HBO series. Seriously, don’t google this. Don’t watch this. Don’t interact with anything related to this. You’re probably wondering, “Then why did you watch it?” I did not watch this willingly. You see, I have a very bad habit of starting anime and then taking months to finish them. I made an ultimatum with a friend, lost, and then was forced to watch this a punishment. Not a fun experience. I’m very glad there are no GIFs of this on tumblr...

I recently just realized I don't know anything about Sakura, the main heroine. Naruto and Sasuke characters will always be more developed than the rest but after that should be Sakura and Kakashi. We know why most characters are the way they are, rock lee works hard because he doesn't have any Chakra and wants to prove that he can still be astounding. Hinata's shy nature is due to her father's maltreatment during childhood. Shikamaru is smart because he takes after his father and smokes because of Asuma. But for Sakura, I have no idea why she has perfect Chakra control or why she is good at detecting genjustu. Or even where she gets her temper from. We even know that kiba's dad is left, but we've never seen sakura's parents in canon.

The only thing I know about Sakura is that she loves her team and wanted to bring them back together.

Sakura is also quite a contradiction, she was bullied during her childhood for something she cant control. Then makes insensitive comments about naruto for he cannot control. Tsunade's most important lesson was to evade. She does against sasori, but not against sasuke when he was going blind.

Well anyway, I think kishimoto should've have given her something that was her own speciality, inner Sakura was a great idea but unfortunately was scrapped. They basically just reused tsunade's powers and that's unacceptable.

I can’t say that I agree with this.

Asking why Sakura has perfect chakra control and why she's good at identifying and dispelling genjutsu is like asking why Neji is a Hyuuga prodigy. It's a talent you're born with, and an explicit reason is not a requirement for every little facet of one's character. Why are the Uchiha's talented with the Fire Style? No explicit reason was given, it's just the way they are. Why do the Uzumaki's have great vitality? No explicit reason was given, it's just the way they are. Why was Kushina born with especially powerful chakra even by Uzumaki standards? No explicit reason was given, it's just the way she is. Why does Lee have no talent in ninjutsu or genjutsu? No explicit reason was given, it's just the way he is. I could honestly go on and on.

The same thing applies with regards to the characters' personality. You gave a reason why Rock Lee works hard, but you also know why Sakura works hard so that wasn't the best example, and it was never stated that Hinata's shy nature derived from Hiashi's mistreatment; she was shown to be shy from as early as 3 years old, long before any of that began. Hiashi's mistreatment made this trait worse, but it wasn't what caused it.

Sasuke's a very reserved individual and we don't know why; it's just the way he is.

Naruto has a very sunny disposition and we don't know why; it's just the way he is.

Kakashi is a huge fan of Jiraiya's erotic novels and we don't know why; it's just the way he is.

And yes, Sakura can have a temper, and we don't know why, because that's just the way she is.

These character traits don't need to be given a reason or a justification; it's just part of who they are, and knowing about these traits is already an indication that you know the character. I could go on - Why is Shino so quiet? Why is Kiba so boisterous? Why does Ino also have a temper? Why is Shikamaru so lazy? It's just who they are; explicit reasons for these traits aren't needed.

Regarding Sakura's contradictions, those weren't contradictions. She initially wasn't too nice to Naruto because of his troublemaking behaviour, which he very much could control. Him being an orphan was never the cause of her attitude towards him. Yes, she made an insensitive comment which downplayed the struggles of orphans, but she never bullied him because he was an orphan. In fact, she envied him due to his lack of parents nagging him. As for Tsunade's teachings, Sakura was internally conflicted because she couldn't bring herself to strike Sasuke down when she knew he could still be saved, but that doesn't mean she contradicted Tsunade's lessons; it was an unforeseen circumstance.

Lastly, I didn't like Inner Sakura, it made her more of a joke character than anything else and I couldn't take her seriously whenever it was used. The fact that this was scrapped demonstrated Sakura's growth both as a person (since she now expressed her true thoughts openly), but also her growth as a kunoichi, because if I had to choose between this Sakura:

I'll take the latter Sakura, any day, not least because she doesn't have "Inner Sakura" plastered on her forehead. I agree that it would have been cool to see Sakura have a more expansive arsenal that wasn't so similar to Tsunade's. However, her proficiency with identifying and dispelling genjutsu sets her apart from her master, and in my opinion, it's a very clear upgrade from relying on some comical and imaginary inner personality to fire you up and defeat your opposition.

What is Naruto Run to One-K?

NR1K is a fast-paced sprint to December 31st, 2021, where we call on GaaLee creators to push the Gaara / Rock Lee tag on Ao3 to 1,000 works! As of December 6th, the total works stands at 967, just 33 works from our goal. Therefore, the objective is to collectively produce 33 works in 25 days. Our goal is to ring in the New Year right … with Gaara / Lee, of course!

What can I create for this event?

Anything that is allowed to be posted on ArchiveofOurOwn and that is tagged with Gaara/Rock Lee in the pairings tag section. Ao3 allows you to host fic (of course) and written meta on-site. It also allows the posting of any other type of fannish, transformative work (e.g. AMVs, comics, fanart, podfic, filk, playlists), but images, video, and/or audio must be uploaded to an offsite host and can be embedded on the archive. Silence fell, and the food grew colder. Hime leapt onto the tabletop and pestered Ino for affection.

"Ino." Sakura took a deep breath. "Can you tell Tsunade-shisou and Kakashi-sensei not to worry?"

Ino touched Sakura's shoulder. "Of course I'll tell them."

The next day, Karin knocked at the door, carrying a traveling pack. Inside was a stack of Sasuke's clothes, neatly-folded with uchiwa fans facing up.

"I know a lot of his things must already be here," Karin said. "But I went by his place, and I thought you would like to have these."

"Aren't you coming?" Sakura asked.

Karin wrinkled her nose. "Jugo's found his calling. Suigetsu's students are pretty needy, and they cry a lot as it is. There's also my research. If I leave, I just know someone will ruin my samples." She looked out Sakura's window. "I think this village needs us now. We'll watch over it for you both."

When she visited Naruto, Sakura spoke directly, for his sake.

"I'm leaving, and I don't know if I'll be back," she said, hands folded on his kitchen table.

Naruto's eyebrows knit together. His features were built for joy, and Sakura did not know how to react to this sober expression.

"You're wearing the dobe's shirt," he protested quietly, staring at the floor. "Don't you want some of mine?"

Sakura let out the breath she was holding and sorted through his closet.

"Don't take that one, it has a stain…ouch!" Naruto cried, as Sakura crushed him in a hug.

"Ogenkide," she whispered to her friend. Be well even if I don't see you.

The news broke on the sixth day. Uchiha Sasuke had abandoned his mission and once more cemented himself as a rogue nin. He did not even make it to Suna.

Whether he had made the choice, or the mission's absurd structure led to his failure, Sakura didn't know. The village had what they wanted.

For weeks after, Anbu agents followed her, Team Taka, and Naruto around the village. Sakura would wake up in the middle of the night at the slightest sound––the sink dripping, Hime purring. Her chakra never ceased boiling under her skin, prepared to fight at any moment. But after it became clear Sasuke was gone, and would not attempt anything rash, the Anbu vanished.

Sakura worked without rest to establish her pediatric center. It might be her last contribution to the village, and she wanted to do it right.

A year passed before the center was built, staffed, and operational.

Sakura packed her belongings, mostly her selection of Naruto and Sasuke's clothes, and did not request a leave of absence. She said her goodbyes.

One task remained. Sakura visited the square on her way to the village gates. Facing the council building she built, Sakura understood her mistake. It was impossible to coax deep-rooted, corrupted things to grow into a more pleasing shape. It was better to tear them from the soil and start fresh.

Murmurs of creaking wood filled the night air. The council building ungrew, shrinking back to the earth. In the morning, the citizens of Konoha discovered a tree marking where their government was once seated. This was Sakura's parting gift.

As Sakura resided by the ocean, a young Sasuke appeared, again and again.

First he attacked her, then he pestered her with questions. Finally, he did not want to be around her at all. In the same moment he slipped into her home, he was already moving to slam the door on his way out.

Months passed and Sasuke's visits remained as consistent as the tides. Eventually his anger cooled to resentful acceptance. He did not even bother to punish her door. Sakura grew used to the sight of him sulking outside the house.

Beyond her long hair, Sakura made no effort to hide the uchiwa fan adorning her back. The answers to Sasuke's questions were obvious, if he cared to look, but he was blinded by pain and anger. Even if she told him the truth, he would not believe her.

One night Sakura awakened with a flash of movement outside the window. Sasuke knelt on the beach, curled over himself, shoulders trembling. The sound of his splash as he dove into the ocean broke the quiet of the night. Despite the fire and lightning in his blood, he plunged into the water like he couldn't breathe without it.

Sakura pulled the comforter from her own bed and walked down to the shore.

Sasuke trudged onto the beach. Without meeting her eyes, he accepted her offering. Soaking wet, the blanket comically large around him, for once he looked his age. The water had washed away all his defenses. A tired boy remained.

In his own world, Sakura did not know if he slept well at night, if he ate enough, if he stayed warm. When he accepted her blanket, she shivered in relief. At least in this moment, she ensured he was not cold, and alone.

Sasuke finally accepted her tea, so Sakura knew it was the last time she would see him.

"You know what this is—why this is happening. At least say that much."

Today, he might understand. Sakura decided to answer. "Yes. I know why this is happening."

"How do you know?"

"I know because you told me."

The crease between his brow softened. Sakura bit her tongue to keep from crying, Don't you see? All this time, it's you I've been waiting for.

"Sakura––" he said. As her name dropped from his mouth, he took a step closer to her own Sasuke.

He slipped away. Sakura's role was over. The rest was his to uncover.

Hime darted down the path. Sakura squinted in the sun. A dark-haired figure bent to scratch the black cat between her ears.

The wind ebbed, and the waves quieted. Even the seabirds were no longer crying.

Sakura rose. She thought she would run to meet him, but her feet were roots anchoring her to the earth. It was all too dreamlike. If he were to turn on his heels and depart down the path, Sakura would not feel a thing. She would keep waiting until she dissolved into sand and seafoam.

Sasuke tilted his head to the sea. "Do you mind if I wash, first? I've come a long way."

A breeze picked up, rustling Sasuke's clothes, lifting Sakura's long hair.

"Take your time," Sakura said. "I'll be here."

Sasuke dropped his belongings where he stood. On the beach he undressed and dipped into the waves.

When enough time passed, Sakura brought him a change of clothes. He emerged from the waves without concealing his bare body, and Sakura did not look away. He dried off and pulled on the fresh clothes. Matching uchiwa fans winked on their backs.

He pulled her close, the spell broken. His skin was damp. Sakura buried her face into his neck. Tears came slowly, then they racked her body. She shuddered with a year's worth of sobs.

Sasuke traced her spine. "I'm sorry, my love," he whispered. "It seems I've kept you waiting again."

When Sakura kissed him, he tasted like salt.

All her waiting was done. She and Sasuke were once more illuminated by the same sun, swimming through the same pool of time.

In the southernmost tip of Fire country, there was a beach where two rock formations rose from the water. A weathered house perched by the shore, next to a long wooden dock housing a rickety fishing boat.

Seasons did not change in the south, so there were other markers of time––how many repairs Sakura performed on the house, how many seashells Sasuke added to the mantle of the hearth. They trained on the beach every morning, because old habits were hard to break. Tomatoes grew especially well in the loamy soil of their garden.

It was a peaceful life. No one knew where they were. No one was looking for them.

"What are you thinking about?" Sakura asked, sitting on the edge of the dock. A black-tailed gull alighted next to her, peering at their catch of the day.

Sasuke was staring at the blue sky, his long hair tied back. "I haven't slipped in a long time."

"You look a lot like you did, when I first saw you," Sakura said. "It could happen any day now."

"One last trip, then."

Sakura could not say why, but she was certain of this, too.

Sasuke tilted his head back. "The last time Itachi and I saw each other was a day like this."

Sakura watched waves roll under the dock. In a quiet corner of Konoha, a tall stone listed the names of each slain Uchiha. No stone bore Itachi's name. He had no resting place, no marker to commemorate his existence.

Her hands quietly shaped the familiar signs. A column of wood rose up the side of one rock formation. Branches stemmed from the main trunk, sprouting foliage. Like training the limbs of a fruit tree into orderly lines, Sakura twisted and curved the branches into the shape she envisioned.

The image of a raven in flight grew into the rock face, a relief of stone, branch, and greenery. Cliffside sculpture, honoring not six Hokage, but Itachi, and all the souls sacrificed in Konoha's name.

"It suits him," Sasuke said, reaching for her hand. "Do you ever think about the village?"

"Yes," she said. "Every day. I wonder if anything has changed."

To her surprise, Sasuke smiled. There was a familiar glint in his eye.

"You know something. Don't you?"

"I know something," he said, "though it took some time to understand."

He whispered it in Sakura's ear.

When Sasuke received the Rinnegan, his stomach dropped as if he had skipped a step. On one end of that feeling, he faced a god. On the other end, he was standing on a hilltop, gazing at a Konoha he did not recognize.

The Hokage mountain was a wall of green. Trees grew straight up the cliffside, a vertical forest. Foliage and vines hung like a curtain over the Hokage faces. Here and there, the corner of a mouth, the center of a large eye, a colossal tuft of hair, poked through the vast greenery. Sasuke wouldn't describe many things as beautiful, but the word came to mind.

A dark-haired young woman with glasses joined him on the crest of the hill. She had a delicate chin and a toughness to the bend of her spine. Sasuke remained silent. He could tell, by now, when someone was expecting him.

"We added to the monument," she explained, following his gaze. "It wasn't right to destroy it. It's important to remember. But a lot has changed. This isn't a place that carves faces into cliffs, anymore."

"You're not Sakura," he said.

"No, I'm not."

"Who are you, then?"

"Sarada."

He remembered this name from a dream.

"Uchiha Sarada," she continued.

Sasuke frowned. "Prove it."

Sarada drew in a deep breath. A wave of heat scorched Sasuke's face as she exhaled the signature fireball jutsu of the Uchiha clan. Flames larger than the crowns of trees licked the air, but none of the surrounding grasses were set alight. She possessed a fine control over her chakra that he had only seen in one other person.

The flames receded. "I can activate my Sharingan if you like," Sarada offered, touching a finger to her chin.

"No need," Sasuke said, smiling. Her eyes reminded him of Itachi's. "I see it."

He slipped back to fight alongside his teammates. To shape his future.

I: Right? Me too.

I: This is Choujin X chapter 2 ver. 2 for the magazine and comic book.  (t/n: He’s speaking in eng.)

I: Ah, the webcam comment is here again. Welcome. There must be a program that automatically send spam to streams with few people at this time of the night. The account and the address must be a camouflage.

*Ishida mispronounced the word moderator, so a fan commented on that.

I: It’s because it’s been a while since I talked to people. A few days ago, I talked to that… I talked to Ms. Towada. I called her ‘that’. I talked to Ms. Towada till morning. I talked to Mr. Kunimitsu as well that day for like the whole day.

C: How did you meet Mr. Kunimitsu?

I: I met him since he was with The Cabs. After that, I really wanted him to do a song for TG no matter what, so I asked him for 100 times but got denied. After 100 times, I finally able to reach him. I was so persistent. In the end, he made the opening for Root A. I attended something like his interview privately. Then, we lightly made a promise to eat together sometime. We were able to meet up. We went to eat and went to 2 bars after that.

I: He forcibly became my friend. Hahaha. I forcibly asked him to make a song for my work. I was his fan in the first place. Now, I don’t know what to label myself.

C: Your impression of TK?

I: He’s like an alien. A unique person.

C: Please visit UK someday.

I: I want to. Are you from there? I like UK. Their culture and all. I like Henry VIII. Hahaha. The guy who executed his wives one after another. I really like him. Their history is my favourite. I wanna visit UK, France, Germany, Italy. I wanna visit them now though. Haha. I need to get jabbed 10 times.

C: Visiting Germany was fun.

I: That’s nice. Travelling is nice, isn’t it?

C: I’m happy that I’m able to see a pro drawing his work.

I: Pro? Am I one? I think of myself as an amateur. (t/n: You’re kidding?!)

I: I wanna have Kagoshima trip too. An offline meeting with 300 people.

I: I’m glad I’m able to stream after quite a while. Now, I can upload Animal Rap videos. It’s not like I can’t just upload it.

C: Did you read TG’s doujinshi.

I: I read them all. Who with who and what happens between them. (t/n: Hope there were no weird ones. XD)

C: You checked the doujinshi?!

I: I checked them all. I write manga so that I can read doujinshi about it. Is there such person? Perhaps, there is. There are all sorts of people in this world.

*He wanted to say something more about doujinshi, but he stopped. The fans asked him to continue.

I: To put it lightly, this isn’t a bad talk. In Naruto, do you guys know there’s the sexy-jutsu guy version? At that time, I thought to myself whether Kishimito sensei was capable of seeing such things. Isn’t the series something sacred to him?** This is bad. I’ll say up until this point.

*Someone commented that they’d keep quiet about this.

I: Please keep quite over the fact that I called Odachi sensei as Odacchi as well.

I: I’m thinking of working on the draft too. I’ve finished one chapter, so another 2 chapters to go. Around 50 pages.

C: It’s easy to drop the honorifics with people who are way above you.

I: That’s right. People like that are seen like a concept. I won’t call him this, but doesn’t everyone call Togashi sensei, Togashi?  This will happen when you respect him too much.

I: In that sense, since you guys are talking to me with respect, it means that I’m still a small fry.

C: Sometimes I say Ishida Sui.

I: Oh really? That’s nice. Thank you. I’m happy. You do say that. Just don’t say it in front of me. Hahaha. I’m a lot older than you. I’m just joking. You can just say it. I’ll kill Goubaru if he said that.

C: I love your stream. (t/n: this comment is in eng.)

I: Thank you. My super f***ing good stream. (t/n: He replied in eng.) Hahaha. You’re not allowed to say this, right? It’s a swear word. What would it be in Japanese? It’s probably a more vulgar word than I thought. I’ll be careful. I use that word quite often in Animal Rap.

C: The word is ‘Kuso’ in Japanese.

I: That’s probably the word, but the f word also means sexual intercourse, so I think it’s quite vulgar. I say the word everyday though.

*Someone commented that it’s gonna be morning soon.

I: It is! That’s good. Let’s greet the morning.

C: Are you gonna do a breakfast ASMR?

I: I’ll eat Natto, then. I’ll do Natto ASMR. It must be disgusting. Is there anyone who does Natto ASMR? Maybe there is, no matter the food. Maybe the sound of them mixing Natto sounds pleasant.

*He’s imitating the mixing sound.

I: Natto ASMR is nice… Are there any other disgusting sounds? Everything is unpleasant though.

I: The stream has passed 5 hours. How long can you guys follow me through?

I: This song is nice. It suits Choujin x. It has that idiotic feeling to it. Idiotic but feels nice. It perfectly suits my ideal.

C: What time of the day has the least people when you stream?

I: I wonder what time. Isn’t it during these kind of hours? It’s exactly now. On the other hand, there are more people during night time. If there are a lot of people, the comments pass by quickly. It’s easier to read the comments if it’s like this. This is the time people can ask for consultation.

I: Seriously, what should I do when the channel reaches 30,000 subscribers? I can just not do anything. I’ll just say thank you. With a loud voice, I’ll say thank you for the 30,000 commemoration project. This is too ridiculous. Hahaha. This is the most appropriate, right? It’s simple. You can even see how demotivated I am. It’s not like I have to be motivated for that. It’s fine if a small amount of people can enjoy that. All these idlers who can’t sleep. These Insomniac people.

C: Let’s do 10,000 punch of gratitude a day.

I: Let’s do that to Goubaru. Let’s do that to someone who isn’t related to this.

The Toonami Trending Rundown for November 26-28, 2021. It was Thanksgiving weekend, and Toonami gave us plenty to be thankful for. Among other things, fans enjoyed some additional Blade Runnercontent to get fans immersed into the universe and to promote Black Lotus, followed by a double dose of Yashahime and the finale of Food Wars! The Fourth Plate.

The weekend started with Toonami airing on a Friday night (albeit without the bumpers due to time constraints) for the first time since the Naruto Hundo event in August 19, 2007, as Adult Swim showcased the Blade Runner short Black Out 2022, before moving on to the feature presentation of Blade Runner 2049. On Twitter, #BladeRunner2049 would trend in the United States as a result of the film’s buzz.

Toonami still aired their regularly scheduled lineup the night after, and in a week of food and being thankful of what you have and accomplished; it was appropriate that the main feature of the night was the season 4 finale of Food Wars! In regards to the social media trends on the night, #Toonami would trend in the U.S. on Twitter alongside Blade Runner: Black Lotus, Yashahime, and Food Wars! Yashahime also saw a character trend with Setsuna, and #Toonami also trended on Tumblr. The full list, including statistics and tweet counts from the Twitter app, can be seen below.

For the night of December 4-5, 2021, following the premiere of Blade Runner: Black Lotus Episode 5, Toonami would marathon all five episodes of the Blade Runner anime series that have aired up to that point. Unfortunately, no Toonami related hashtags trended during the night.

This past Friday, the newest film to the Sword Art Online franchise, titled Sword Art Online: Progressive -Aria of a Starless Night-, made its premiere in U.S. and Canadian theaters. The film covers the first 121 pages of Volume 1 of the Progressive light novels, expanding on the events of Episode 2 of the first season, including an anime-only storyline featuring a new character named Mito. Bryce Papenbrook and Cherami Leigh return to voice Kirito and Asuna respectively, joined by Anairis Quinones as Mito, Kayleigh McKee as Mito’s SAO original avatar, Ryan Colt Leavy as Asuna’s brother Koichiro, and Kimberley Anne Campbell as Argo. If you’re interested, check out Fandango’s website to look up viewings near your area, and give your support to the anime industry on the big screen.

As previously mentioned, given that the SAO films are canon to the overall storyline, and given the uncertainty of Toonami being able to show the events of the films if and when the show returns for successive seasons, we’d highly recommend checking this one out if you can. And if you do wish to see Sword Art Online back on the block, it helps to let @Clarknova1 and @AniplexUSA know on their respective social media outlets.

This past Thanksgiving weekend, I attended San Diego Comic-Con: Special Edition, the first time in two years that the event has taken place. No announcements were made that were of note for Toonami viewers, but we did manage to snag an interview with Bryce Papenbrook to discuss some of his latest roles. Look forward to that in addition to a report coming soon.

This past week, Toonami revealed the schedules for the December 11-12 and 18-19 editions of the block. Tonight’s broadcast looks to be the final “regular scheduled” edition of Toonami for 2021, as following the premiere of Blade Runner: Black Lotus episode 05, the block will see a tripleheader of the final three episodes of Yashahime’s first season. The block will finish off with the regularly scheduled episode of Naruto Shippuden, followed by reruns of Dr. Stone and Dragon Ball Super.

In addition, on the night of December 18-19, 2021, Toonami will premiere the 6th episode of Black Lotus, which will be followed with the airing of the 2003 anime anthology film The Animatrix. The Rick and Morty anime shorts and the rerun of Dragon Ball Superwill end the night. The airing will be due in part to promote the upcoming fourth installment to the Matrix franchise, The Matrix: Resurrections, releasing on December 22 in theaters and on HBO Max. In addition, according to executive producer Joseph Chou, the idea of a Blade Runner anime series came as early as when he was producing The Animatrix all the way in 2001. That idea eventually culminated to what Blade Runner: Black Lotusis today, and airing The Animatrix at the same time Blade Runner: Black Lotus is airing makes sense.

As previously mentioned, on November 24, Jason DeMarco tweeted that “Frankly, we’ve had some unforeseen issues getting the shows we had lined up (issues out of our control). Once we are in the new year, we’ll launch some new ongoing series & things will settle down!” However, on Tuesday, Jason subtlety tweeted out that the Toonami crew has hit a significant road bump with Sony over bringing back Demon Slayer for season 2, which may or may not be a contributor to the issues regarding bringing in new programming.

When sharing the article by Screen Rant titled “10 Classic Sci-Fi Films That Deserve The Anime Treatment After Blade Runner: Black Lotus,” he mentioned that he would love to make a ROBOCOPanime series happen. However later in the discussion thread, he mentioned that “Sony’s busy freezing us out of Demon Slayer and who knows what else, I don’t see them letting me make ROBOCOP! Ha.” Whether the Toonami crew are dealing with Sony just playing hardball in the negotiations to bring back Demon Slayer, or is it a sign of deteriorating relationships with Aniplex and Funimation since their acquisition of Crunchyroll, is anyone’s guess. But that’s in the realm of speculation since we don’t know much beyond that, and perhaps beyond the scope of this trending rundown report. Hopefully it’s just a situation where cooler heads will eventually prevail and Toonami and Sony-Funimation Group will complete a deal to bring back Demon Slayer and other shows in the new year. Unfortunately, all we can do now is wait and see what happens, though it doesn’t hurt to let @AniplexUSA, @Crunchyroll, and @Funimation know on their respective social media outlets that you want them to continue working with Toonami. Let them know your show requests and concerns, but of course, politeness goes a long way.
