Snippet - I Hate Oyster Pâté- Forward, but Never Forget/XOXO
Tumblr media
Teatime with two chem-baronesses.
Forward, but Never Forget/XOXO on AO3
cw: mentions of sex work and child labor
Snippet:
In the evening, he has tea with Renata and Margot. The pair are working to merge Glasc Industries and the Vyx for a joint venture into Sextech. Beyond artificial limbs or prosthetics: neural interfaces designed to replace lost senses like sight, touch and taste. Organs grown in vitro. Body modification. Synthetic hormones.
A veritable smorgasbord of sensation.
Their collaboration is symbiotic; they're each other's muse. When he arrives, they greet him charmingly: Renata with a perfumed air-kiss along his unscarred cheek, Margot with a coy squeeze of his hand in both her own. They are dressed to kill in contrasting gowns of champagne silk and silver mesh.  On both their hands sit a pair of impressively-sized engagement rings.
Silco gives them his wry admiration. "My congratulations, ladies. Or is it condolences?"
"Tsk, Silco. You do tease."
Renata proffers her hand to flaunt the ring. Like most Undercity jewels, it is made of black diamonds from the mines. Piltovans hanker for white and colored gems. They are less opaque, thus easier to grade by color intensity. But black diamonds are rarer still—and because of their scarcity, fetch higher prices.
Silco would know.
As boys, he and Vander nearly suffocated during a tunnel collapse to collect broken diamond ore and haul it to the surface. They were taught to value black diamonds above everything else. Including—especially—their own lives. A sumpsnipe was as common as shit in the alleyside. A black diamond was priceless.
The stone is rough-cut, an iridescent blue vein running down the center. It is sharpened to a spike, and retractable like a claw. The design serves a dual purpose: a glittering proof of partnership and a hard-edged tool for self-protection. This one could puncture steel.
"Truly a work of art," Renata says. "Twelve miners died in the making of this jewel."
Margot giggles coyly. "I think they would celebrate the result."
"Blood is far less pedestrian than champagne."
"And leaves a sweeter aftertaste."
They laugh in ribald collusion.
To Silco, they resemble a pair of hyenas draped in designer silks—predacious and patently phony. Their laughter spills like blood through a tourniquet. On the rare occasion he finds himself in their company, he feels a sense of amused ennui that these creatures, a dark nadir to Piltover's bright apex, are his nation's crème de la crème, its end-product of proud aristocracy. How will it end? He can hazard a guess: with bloodlines as watery as the Pilt, and as poisonous, with dull-eyed socialites and blustering buffoons at the top of the slag heap, their children grown fat on imported decadences and their minds washed complacently clean of history by fashionable frippery.
That is Zaun's future if it forgets its roots. It is why he must cut deals and cut throats. Safeguard legacy against entropy.
Protect Jinx's future.
He settles back into his seat, eyelids drooping half-shut. "You'll forgive me if I don't ask for particulars on your engagement."
"That's a man for you," Renata scoffs. "Little is worth lingering on. But yes—you’re forgiven. And darling, I know you told me not to have supper prepared. But I took the liberty of having Elza fix oyster pâté. Your favorite, I recall."
"Divine," he lies.
"And tea, of course. You could use some tea."
"The day has been long."
"Ah, but your speech." Margot flutters her eyelashes. "I listened to the broadcast this afternoon. You were magnificent! So passionate!"
"That was the idea."
"You should likewise rouse my workers. Cheeky things—they deserve a proper tongue lashing! I'm still a-blush over the last’s misconduct."
"Photography is hardly a crime. But there is a time and place. Jinx’s bedroom is neither."
"I hope his impertinence can be forgiven."
"On the contrary. I was amused. Boy thought a lot of himself. I quite cured him of the notion." His small smile doesn't bother to hide its sharp-toothed secrets. "But is that why you sent him to me? To play Krampus to the intransigent?"
"You have such a fine hand for discipline."
"And a better eye for blackmail."
Margot colors up. Renata purses her lips.
Silence hangs heavy as a noose.
Silco cuts to the chase. "The new ordinance on brothels," he says. "Neither of you approve."
Renata raises a single, fastidiously plucked eyebrow.  "It’s less approval than mystification, Silco. Do prostitutes really need a guild?"
"It would increase tax revenue. And make life easier for the ordinary Zaunite."
Margot pouts girlish censure. "Surely, as procuress of the Vyx, my workers are exempt?"
"Regrettably: no."
"But Silco—"
He cuts her off with a gently-worded warning. "Your concerns are noted.  But let us keep things in perspective. Our priority remains Zaun. That means more than just Sextech and warm bodies. It means the safety of our citizens. And those who perform acts of service on their behalf."
"We're not safekeepers," Renata says archly. "We are businesspeople."
"Then it behooves you to take care of your investments. Before they become liabilities."
"Hence your endless ordinances."
"Exactly."
The cords on Renata's neck rise, as if she wants to spit in his face. Instead, she smiles sweetly. "How paternalistic."
Silco's own smile is slow, cold. "We each serve different mistresses. Mine is Zaun, and her welfare."
"Your one true love."
"Interminably."
She titters. "You’ll work yourself into an early grave, Silco."
"I'll have plenty of company."
"Good gracious!” Margot says. “What poor company the dead would make."
"Then liven it up while I'm breathing." Silco consults his pocketwatch. "If we've concluded our business..."
Margot nods demurely. "I'll ring for Elza to pour tea."
She starts to rise. Silco lays two fingertips on her wrist. He is still smiling. But his eyes have taken on a dark and deadly shine.
"Tea is sweeter when you pour it, Margot,” he says. “And incidentally, Renata—I hate oyster pâté."

Celebrating Black photographers during BHM
The interminable month of January is ending, bringing February to a close and kicking off the festivities of Black History Month. From February 1 to March 1, black culture from all diasporas will be in the spotlight.
Tumblr media
This practice dates back to 1926, in the United States. Born to formerly enslaved parents, historian Carter G. Woodson is the second African-American man to receive a doctorate from Harvard University. Heading the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, he proposed creating a week devoted to the history of black communities. In 1960, the festivities were extended to a full month. In 1976, Black History Month was recognized by the U.S. government.
As a photography enthusiast, I'd like to honor two black photographers I discovered during a visit to 180 Studios in London, where their work was exhibited.
Gabriel Moses
Tumblr media
Aged 24, Gabriel Moses has an oscar worthy portfolio featuring the crème de la crème, having worked with Dior, Burberry, Adidas, Apple, Manchester United… He has built up a substantial client base over the years. Having started out as a self-taught photographer and videographer, his career took off at the age of 18 when he directed an ad for Nike, at 22 he became the youngest photographer to shoot the rapper Pa Salieu for the cover of Dazed magazine.
Tumblr media
Much of his Nigerian cultural heritage is highlighted in his work in the form of family photographs, as are the women. Gabriel Moses pays homage to the women in his entourage who introduced him to the world of fashion and art.
Tumblr media
Referring to Malian photographer Malick Sidibé as his inspiration, his work is characterized by textured effects and deep, dark tones, his models embody characters and his creations tell stories.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
His first solo show, Regina 'A salute to women', took place last year at 180 Studios in London, and featured 50 of his creations, including shorts films.

Campbell Addy
Tumblr media
Campbell Addy is a British-Ghanaian artist and photographer based in London. He draws inspiration from his culturally diverse upbringing, his work embraces distinctive narratives and genuine emotions, emphasizing unique casting choices that showcase underrepresented faces.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Addy established Nii Journal, a platform that embodies the representation he envisioned in shoots with friends and peers. Additionally, he founded Nii Agency, where he recruited diverse faces for casting and modeling, crafted to question conventional notions of beauty, it presented an alternative viewpoint on the definition of beauty and style within our contemporary fashion industry.

Jessica Minh Anh reimagines Paris as the runway
Tumblr media
The legendary fashion show producer combined runways, presentations, and campaigns into one unique production at iconic locations during Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture.
Tumblr media
Erase any preconceived notions of conventional catwalk presentations from your mind. The eminent fashion show producer, Jessica Minh Anh, has astutely redefined the contemporary fashion showcase. She has seamlessly amalgamated traditional runways, presentations, and campaigns into an unparalleled production, and it unfolded simultaneously at multiple iconic locations throughout Paris during Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture.
Tumblr media
Renowned for her historic fashion events at the world's most iconic monuments and sustainable energy sites, Jessica transformed Paris' landmarks on the 25th of January, 2024, into a grand fusion of fashion, architecture, culture, and artistic expression. The event followed Jessica’s Sky-High Ocean Catwalk in Rio de Janeiro just a month earlier.
This remarkable production featured models elegantly striding against the backdrop of cinematic masterpieces, including the Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Pont Alexandre III, Seine River, and Place Vendome, all on a single day. This strategic feat aimed to showcase creative designs from diverse continents while offering a fresh perspective on the beloved City of Lights.
Tumblr media
Romane Ouisse, Event & PR Manager of KEVIN.MURPHY France, enthused, "This event injected unprecedented vibrancy into the fashion industry, and we are immensely proud to have been a part of it. Jessica Minh Anh is not only a visionary with extraordinary concepts but also a masterful executor, turning the seemingly impossible into reality. She makes this collaboration even more challenging and exciting for KEVIN.MURPHY!"
Tumblr media
The J Winter Fashion Show 2024 seamlessly blended transparent rooftop buses and iconic locations to unveil a diverse array of collections from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. With innovative transitions reminiscent of popular social media platforms, Jessica expertly connected with the younger generation. The spectacle featured classic catwalk photography, captivating fashion films, and digital trends, engaging millions of fashion enthusiasts globally.
Tumblr media
Vincent Durand, CEO of Bus Toqué Paris, admired the logistical precision required to orchestrate this extraordinary event, stating, "Coordinating such a multifaceted production could have been a logistical challenge, given its complexity. We were thoroughly impressed with Jessica Minh Anh's efficient execution, which brought it all to life within just six hours. We provided two luxury buses to support her production, and we found that Jessica's energy, creativity, and message perfectly aligned with our company's vision to deliver an unforgettable Parisian experience."
Tumblr media
The fashion extravaganza showcased the enchanting creations of Chotronette, a Romanian powerhouse renowned for conjuring an imaginative universe inspired by "la vie en rose." Each ensemble was a breathtaking rendition of twentieth-century ball gowns, artfully combining tulle, florals, and vibrant color palettes to create a tapestry of art and cinematic allure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
OTKUTYR Fashion House from Saudi Arabia, a long-time collaborator in Jessica Minh Anh's Catwalk-On-Water series in Paris, captivated the audience with an exceptional pret-a-couture collection. More than a fashion brand, OTKUTYR serves as a collaborative hub committed to eco-friendly techniques such as upcycling, setting a global example for sustainable fashion practices.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The collection harmoniously merged timeless elegance with a contemporary Arab twist, challenging conventional gender norms with tailored men's style suits for women adorned with statement bows. Jessica herself graced the catwalk in a signature maroon body-hugging dress, meticulously hand-embroidered with 100 roses, accentuating the intricacies of the female form.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Making their debut in Jessica's production, Melissia brand from Kuwait presented luxurious abaya designs crafted with premium fabrics and impeccable tailoring. These designs seamlessly blended tradition with contemporary styles, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region while catering to modern tastes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Last but certainly not least, Vietnamese luxury fashion house, Tracy Studio, unveiled a collection named "The Silk Road: From East to West." Tracy Studio's designs epitomized a captivating fusion of craftsmanship and tailoring, portraying confident and elegant women with timeless beauty transcending generations. The collection included strapless dresses, capes, unique necklines, and shoulder pairings, encapsulating the essence of femininity.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jessica Minh Anh expressed her love for Tracy Studio, saying, "Tracy Studio's unwavering commitment to craftsmanship excellence impressed me. The brand masterfully incorporated embroidery, rhinestones, and beading to create a harmonious fashion symphony." Their modernized rendition of the Vietnamese famous Ao Dai, a sparkling blue structured dress worn by Jessica Minh Anh, not only accentuated her stunning silhouette but also embodied the spirit of cultural exchange and beauty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reviving the big frizzy curly fever from the 90s, KEVIN.MURPHY's artistic team was responsible for Jessica Minh Anh's charismatic coiffure. As a hair brand with a strong fashion DNA, this marked the second collaboration between KEVIN.MURPHY and Jessica Minh Anh, following the phenomenal success of J Spring Fashion Show 2022 on the Liquefied Natural Gas cruise ship Costa Toscana in Portofino, Italy.
Tumblr media
J Winter Fashion Show 2024 received invaluable support from Paris J'Adore Hotel and IWG group's Spaces Opéra Garnier, where Jessica's dedicated team worked tirelessly around the clock to bring this unique production to life.
Tumblr media
Jessica Minh Anh's Winter Fashion Show 2024 transcended the realm of fashion; it was a testament to creativity, diversity, and inclusivity, featuring models and designs from different ethnicities. This milestone event marked Jessica's 30th innovative production since her history-making catwalk on England's iconic London Tower Bridge in 2011.

Lady Aicha & Pisko Crane's Original Fulu Miziki of Kinshasa - N'Djila Wa Mudujimu (Nyege Nyege Tapes)
In 2003, Pisco Crane assembled a six-piece band from motivated and talented like minds in the Kinshasa slums where he grew up. Pisco had been involved with a handful of local rap acts when he was younger, but after meeting legendary instrument builder Bebson De La Rue, he was inspired to follow a new path. He set about building instruments from the discarded trash that surrounded his city: bits of old computers or oil cans were fashioned into bass guitars and drums, and keyboards were bashed together using springs, metal pipes, and offcuts of tubing. If there was a core philosophy that guided Pisco at this stage in his journey, it was that everyone should have access to instruments, no matter where they come from or what their budget might be. And following in the footsteps of Bebson, Pisco locked into a Congolese tradition that touches on the eccentric genius of globally lauded artists like Konono Nº1 and Staff Benda Bilili. Over the years, Fulu Miziki's notoriety grew in the Kinshasa underground – their utopian vision of the future was infectious. Eventually, they were joined by performance artist, sculptor and fashion designer Lady Aisha, who offered the band unique colour and a soulful central focus. Influenced by Kinshasa's street performance scene, Aisha helped the band devise vivid masks and costumes that were as electric and singular as the instruments they played, and the scene was set. In 2020, as the world was plunged into lockdown, footage of Fulu Mziki went viral and their star began to grow exponentially, with a video of the band preforming the track ‘Tikanga’ racking up millions of views on Facebook. The band used this opportunity to work on documenting their sound, and shored up at the Nyege Nyege studios in Kampala for a year to assemble a definitive album. Recorded by HHY & The Macumbas' Jonathan Saldanha, this record captures the band's furiously innovative mixture of industrial sonics, spiritual jazz, punk, and Congolese soukous pressure. Pisco and Lady Aicha currently lead a different outfit in Kinshasa made up of completely new musicians. This full-length is the remaining proof of Fulu Mziki at their most vital and most complete – it won't be repeated – and can never be recreated. It's an essential portrait of one of the Democratic Republic of Congo's most innovative contemporary outfits, and some of the most surprising hybrid music you're likely to hear. Produced, Recorded & Mixed by Jonathan Uliel Saldanha Photography by Mantas Kvedaravicius. Artwork & Graphic layout by Jonathan Uliel Saldanha

For lovers of vintage clothing, British supermodel and vintage fashion muse Kate Moss unveils a personally curated selection of her favorite couture and costume pieces from the Museo de la Moda, the world-class fashion museum in Santiago, Chile. International fashion icon Kate Moss and the premier South American fashion museum Museo de la Moda meet in this undeniably stylish volume that celebrates iconic vintage fashion moments throughout history. The Museo de la Moda, founded in 1999, opened in 2007, and directed by Chile's first textile industry scion Jorge Yarur Bascuñán, is one of the world's most important but least-known museums of its kind, housing exquisite garments from nineteenth-century Dolman shawls to twenty-first-century sequin dresses by Balmain. Edited by Kate Moss with text contributions from fashion curator Lydia Kamitsis, this volume features a stylish selection of one hundred archival pieces from the museum, each charting different fashion trends that have inspired Moss's personal sartorial style. Organized by fashion theme, from 1920s opera coats to 1960s Swinging London designs, but also including iconic pieces of pop culture, such as Marilyn Monroe's black dresses and Jimi Hendrix's Indian tunics, each chapter showcases new images of the museum garments as selected by Moss, accompanied by interesting anecdotes and street-style photography documenting Moss wearing that particular fashion trend. This is a chic volume that will appeal to Moss's global following and readers passionate about style, fashion history, design, and culture.

N'Djila Wa Mudujimu by Lady Aicha & Pisko Crane's Original Fulu Miziki of Kinshasa
At their best, Fulu Mziki sound almost completely out of time, curving pounding rhythms around microtonal clanks, rousing chants and spiky sonics. On 'Mutangila', there's a hint of disco in the 4/4 stomp, but it's been shifted into a post-punk ritual, adorned with complex bell percussion and overlapping vocals. 'Congo' is even harder to define; electrified buzzes form a bassline, but it's the mindboggling rhythms that shuttle the track into psychedelic realms, led confidently by Lady Aisha's limber rhymes. Fulu positively slither on the sultry, industrial-influenced 'Sebe', while 'Tikanga' reminds of Congo's rumba-derived soukous traditions, materializing the sounds into the future with tight, pounding percussion and head-melting fx. The story of Fulu Miziki is sprawling and complex and constantly evolving, with various offshoots and band iterations. Two members left the band in 2016 to form KOKOKO! with French producer Débruit. Not long after they recorded this magnum opus album, several other original members left to form a similarly named outfit currently based in Europe. This other incarnation recently released an EP of electronic productions without the band founder Pisko Crane and lead vocalist Lady Aicha, on the UK based Moshi Moshi records. クレジット2022年10月21日リリース Produced, Recorded & Mixed by Jonathan Uliel Saldanha Photography by Mantas Kvedaravicius. When you have to go all the way to the northeastern part of the city to meet up with a friend at the Photography Exhibition, you end up discovering a new part of the city.
La Grande Halle de la Villette was formerly a slaughterhouse but is now a cultural center and is situated within the Parc de la Villette.
The Grande Halle is made of cast iron and glass. It covers an area of 20,000 square metres (220,000 sq ft), and measures 250 metres (820 ft) by 85 metres (279 ft).
It would be nice to come back and explore the surrounding area, especially the Parc de La Villette.
It is the third-largest park in Paris, 55.5 hectares (137 acres) in area, and houses one of the largest concentrations of cultural venues in Paris, including the Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie (City of Science and Industry, Europe's largest science museum), three major concert venues, and the prestigious Conservatoire de Paris.
