“You’re so careless, Y/N!”

“Do we have to wait for the apocalypse to happen before you finish this, Y/N?”

“How can you never do anything right?”

       She shut the door behind her and the tears she was struggling to hold back fell on her cheeks. The unbroken stream of tears of perpetual tiresome felt like all of her energy was being drained – and wanting to just fall onto the floor and cry. The criticisms hurled at her by her superiors at work today were a bit too much for her to handle, but she knew that that’s just what it was like to be an adult. An adult who works. Gone are the days where life was all just about being overwhelmed by exams, assignments, house parties, student meetings. Despite feeling so burnt out, she carried on; still crying as she leaves her keys and bags and do her normal ‘back at home’ routine after work. A routine she has been doing every day since she started to work.

       She walked over to a sink and washed away the tear stains on her face. She kept telling herself that, “This is just a phase” over and over again. Suddenly, she heard her phone rang. As she walked towards the dining table where she had placed it, she noticed the name of the caller that appeared on the screen. Just as she answered it, she cleared her throat to make sure he did not notice the sadness in her voice.

      “Hey babe,” Timothee said.

      “Hi~” she replied in a sing-song like tune.

      “Are you home already? Because, I’m actually on my way to your house right now.” He said.

      “Yeah, yeah I am home. Sure, just come. You’re always welcome here.” She says.

      “Right okay cool. See you then.” He says and hung up.

            She continued to wash her face in the sink to reduce the puffiness on her face after bawling her eyes out from stress earlier on and hoped that by the time Timothee arrived, she would look normal to him. A few moments later, she heard the doorbell rang – knowing that it was him after spying through the peephole, she warmly welcomes him inside her home with a hug and a little chaste kiss.

      “I’ve missed you,” he says

      “And I too. It’s a nice thing that you’re here.” She replies before letting go of him to sit on the couch.

      “So, how’s your day?”

      “Well, nothing special happened at work. Just another day another routine y’know,”

       “Hmm, I see.” He says as he looks at her. She did not know, but Timothee was studying her carefully; her face, her body language. He knew something was off that she did not tell him about.

      “So, have you eaten yet? I can fix us both dinner?” she asks.

      Timothee snapped out of his reverie and had a better idea in mind. “Hey, y/n? Go get dressed. I’m taking you out.”

      “Huh?” she asks in confusion.

      “No, really go get dressed. I’m taking you out.” He says again before pulling her up with him to stand and playfully pushed her to her room.

     “Hey~ okay okay!” she says while giggling.

      She went in her room and did a quick change and touched up her make up before joining him in the living room again. She did not know what her boyfriend has planned in mind and was eager to know where he would take her out to. Timothee sat cross-legged on the floor, watching her pet cat eating. He looked up to her before getting up on his feet.

     “I’ve fed her. We can’t have her starve while we go out now.” He says.

     “Yup, it is time for her to eat anyways. Thanks, sweet.” She replies and gives him a peck on the cheek.

     “Let’s go.”

      Timothee and her hit the road soon after. The drive at night was a mixe of quiet with a hint of karaoke-ing. It was moments like these that she cherishedThey bought take-out from a drive-thru and that was when he decided to be straightforward with her and ask about her wellbeing.

      “Babe, be honest with me. How are you today?” he asks.

       She was fiddling with the paper bag that contained their take-out looking for fries when she stops and looks at him while munching away a single string of fries. “Hmm? My day’s okay.” She says.

      “No… You don’t seem okay and I don’t know why but I just feel it?” he says again with a voice that was gentle and concerned.

       “Well, do you really want to know?” she asks.

       “Yes of course, I do! I’m you’re boyfriend.”

       “Okay,” she sighs. “I’ve had a rather crappy day at work today. I got yelled at by my boss, not that I could complain – we were busy preparing for an upcoming event and we needed to make sure that all the sponsors were in check.” She explained the whole event of her work day thoroughly to him while he listened carefully.

      “And so, yeah. I actually cried when I got back home.” She says.

       Timothee finally understood what she was feeling and nods quietly after listening to her story. “I’m sorry you had to go through all that. Don’t let that get into your head okay?”

        She nods and looks away from him knowing that tears were beginning to well up in her eyes again. “I’m sorry, heh” she sniffs and wipes away her tears. Timothee pulled her in for a warm hug as he placed a kiss on top of her head – soothing his lover from her heartache.

         “I got an idea.” He says suddenly as he pulled away. He drove out of the parking lot and once again was on the road. She was confused and curious about where he was going to take her. They soon arrived park that overlooked a man-made lake right in the middle. There were people gathered there as well to what looks like there was a small gig going on as there was a stage and a singer with a guitar performing. Timothee and her got out of the car carrying along their take out with them. They found an empty bench and sat themselves there.

       “This is nowhere special, but I hope it could take your mind off from stress,” he says before grabbing his take-out from the paper bag.  

       “No, I like it. Thank you for bringing me here,” she says. “Plus, we get a free concert?” as she pointed out to at the ongoing gig across the lake.

      “Hmm, yeah. You could say that.” He says as he bites into his burger.

      The enjoyed their meal together under the stars at the park whilst people-watching; creating fictional background stories of random strangers they see. As time passed by, she noticed how grateful she was for having him by her side and how appreciative he was to her no matter what kind of state she was in.

      “Cherie?” he says. “I want to know, that whatever happens I’m always here for you and please don’t keep everything to yourself. I want you to know that I can always be your safe space for you.”

       She nods, and takes his hands in hers as she smiled lovingly at him.

      “Je t’aime beaucoup” she says.
