Hello! :D
I just caught up with your SK au fic and wanted to come say how much I’m enjoying it! Especially the way that you are building up the story and how hints and details are sprinkled around like seeds that are slowly growing as more info is revealed!
Like first chapter we have some details about the detective that caught my eye and then keep having brief but noteworthy appearances. It is mentioned they have a bad reaction to the smell of tobacco and their discomfort about crowded spaces seems clear from the start, but the way it’s worded does give space to wonder if it’s just general annoyance at it or something more. The small intro of the town I think is pretty effective as well, as I noticed on a reread how it mentions several of the spaces that will become more prominent in the story (obviously the library and amusement park, but also others like the docks, which are linked to the first victim the detective learns of)
Also the introduction of the boys is pretty fun, given that readers preemptively know that they are the killers themselves. Sun in particular pretending he can’t bear the mention of the murders is very funny XD Oh! and I like the detail of his considerable strength being casually mentioned, only for us to later learn through the photos how much force was used to kill Grisham.
(sidenote: absolutely loving the art! the last one in the first chapter where Sun and Moon meet outside the park really establishes an ominous aura about them, and the fact that they share that same-colored blue eye hints towards that unique connection and knowledge about the events they share. Like they are synchronized!)
Then on chapter 2 a small bit that caught my attention was during Moon’s questioning. I also noticed how his answers were pretty much instantaneous, which the detective reasons is because Sun gave him a heads up. But I like how when he was asked when the last time he saw Grisham was, he needs that brief pause to think, because he knows the actual answer, but that’s the one he can’t be truthful about, so he has to review his memory of when he would have seen him before that.
Oh and another detail in this chapter is that the “stern” father like look makes the detective’s stomach churn until they notice the good intent in Powell’s worry. One could chalk it up to just anxiety under the orders of a boss, but the fact that it’s specifically compared to a parental attitude seems significant.
And oof, that torture scene! Pretty brutal despite the fact that most of it seems to have happened offscreen already haha It shows pretty well the absolute hatred the boys hold for rulebreakers and how ready they are to show it. It’s pretty neat how you keep their personalities consistent even during these scenes! They are completely different in a sense, but also exactly the same two brothers as they are in their daily lives.
And aaah chapter 3 was pretty intense! That interview with Mrs. Grisham is so interesting, because just as the detective is capable of piecing together what is left unsaid, the text also allows the reader to start piecing the detective’s possible past as well. Like, there’s all those hints at the alcoholism of Grisham. The twitches in the cheek with the scar are a great pointer at both the detective’s thought process and their likely first hand experience with something like this, and also quite the thing for Mrs. Grisham and the detective to understand one another on some level.
Oh also! I have been following the blog for a while, so I know there have been some hints here about the boys possibly having known the detective before this haha, but I think the text also does a good job of making readers speculate about it, with how Sun and Moon seem instantly attached. And speaking about the boys, my god they like their antics XD They are very theatrical and expressive! I can believe it’s part of how they enjoy expressing themselves, but I definitely wonder if part of it is that making it seem like they are super easy to read and like they wear their hearts on their sleeves is also a good way to divert suspicion from them. Can’t be them if no one believes they could hide a secret like that right?
(other sidenote: The contrast between the detective’s and the brothers’ perspectives is hilarious to me XD The detective: dread, horror, reliving their mysterious trauma at some points. Meanwhile the boys are like: So excited! It’s a bit of a game for them! New player on the board! They look at the detective and it’s like the Smash bros new challenger presentation music accompanies their entrance fkjdhfkj)
Oh and the end of the chapter! Really seeing the kind of personalized punishments they like to dole out. Pretty obvious with Clyde, though I do wonder a bit more what they did specifically for Grisham. Was it using all that force because of how violent he was? The damage to his limbs because of how he used them to hurt his family? hmmmmm
Ooo, and then in chapter 4 we see even more of the detective’s intuition and how sharp it is! They seem very analytical, and are showing their true skills to their coworkers by having the right hunches about the killers’ victims.
Ah, one thing that made me think in this chapter is about the interactions with the boys that the detective has had so far and their reactions to it. They seem to not mind their fussing, because they can see it’s genuine. Though we do see they go back and forth on how they feel about it. There’s a tiny conflict in this chapter regarding that and it does get solved pretty quickly, but I wonder if it’s something that will be a bigger point of conflict down the line, because they might feel they are not being respected as a capable adult. The detective seems like the type of person that finds it difficult to let others take care of them as they are very self-reliant and might even have a negative association to that show of care. On one hand they do seem like they want to allow it to some extent, but on the other they seem to hate it when others underestimate their capabilities, both personal and professional.
And oooh we see a bit more of the boys own struggles! Sun being affected by the topic of vitals makes me wonder if there was one time he was desperately checking for someone’s vitals but found none that time, perhaps. hmmmmm
Then chapter 5 I feel is really where those scattered details are starting to take a more solid shape! We see more signs of the detective’s past’s effect on them. Last chapter we saw them having flashbacks when looking at their reflection and this one we see them avoiding it completely. It seems to be increasingly affecting them, and I can’t help but think that it’s part of that self-inflicting of guilt they keep doing (no doubt acquired from someone in their past).
Ah, the talk with Sun gives a little more insight about some of Moon’s own issues. Him keeping his sense of smell off makes me think it’s likely to avoid nasty surprises from the smell of any kind of smoke (that would make him think of fire) around. Poor detective likely wishes they could do that too oof. Especially because apparently the station constantly smells like it. (By this point, I’m pretty convinced that with their negative instinctual reactions to the smell, their dad was a smoker, and with the other hints about their past we’ve had, that he was quite a nasty guy. And I already have my prediction of how he died given the timeline of events XD)
But speaking of the detective, we can really see how the more they stay in the town the more frequent these panic episodes are starting to get. That mural and alley seem pretty important, hmmmm. And yikes, poor kid. The detective was having the worst time and he accidentally bumped them at precisely the worst moment. I have a feeling that will come up again, since he’s a kid that goes to Sun’s reading circle, and there’s no way the detective isn’t going back to the library at some point. Hopefully the detective gets to say that apology they wanted but couldn’t get out.
Ahhh I’ve rambled a lot already, but just wanted to mention a couple more things!
Chief Powell seems to also treat the detective a bit carefully. I remember he read their file, so I gotta wonder how much he knows. The fact that he’s not handing them all the files does seem to come from a well meaning place, but it likely makes the detective feel babied and they do not appreciate it. Like they are not being taken seriously or are being treated like they’re made of crystal. (Which I can see as a contrast from the way they accept care from a human to how they do with the boys, but also both instances mixing in a bad way that might make them snap.)
And the last bit about the boys! Haha, poor Moon really does not get an advantage in where he is stationed regarding opportunities to interact with y/n hfdkljhf I’m guessing the little game they were referring to is sending the detective to one another, but y/n does seem to be a bit done with that XD It’s also interesting (and definitely points to the possibility that the brothers know them from before) that Moon reflects how they both know very well how much the detective hates crowd spaces, confirming what the beginning of the first chapter implied. It could seem like observation, but they seem way too familiar with that fact for it to be just that. Hmmmmmm!
But aaaa that’s all I got! Fantastic fic (and art! ) so far! It’s noticeable how much research and effort has been put in this story! Very excited to see what comes next and how the tension will rise! I offer more kudos here since AO3 won’t allow it!
Friend when I say that while reading this analysis I was grinning like an absolute idiot- /vpos

THANK YOOOOOOU!!!!
You've picked up on so many subtle details and that has me feeling really excited and a little proud!! This was a really accurate dissection of the story and its characters!!
AAAAAAAA thank u again for this!!!

(next weeks...have fun 😈)
She was a bit spread thin. The reporter who destroyed her honor weekly now with debauched lies and the other families poking at her. In interview or online she was becoming a favorite to chat about. Trending hashtags and fans sending in questions for her to consider and accusations to refute. It was sweet if not for her love of privacy, but all that had gone up in smoke with Malleus, Draco, latching onto her two weeks ago and starting a feud. She had brought a knife to a gun fight, but that didn't mean she wouldn't get the drop on one of them if she got them bickering. Catch some body language and dig into some dirt. She wasn't someone to mess with and she'd show her lethal side with them walking all over her.
As usual she stands, front row before the Kingscholar's chairs that were far more comfortable than the cheap seating the venue gave the interviewers.
"Afternoon gentleman, hope your week has been a good one so far. First question is too the Kingscholar Family, what's the first thing you notice about someone attractive to you, your partner, or a potential partner?" She flips her pen between her fingers, the unpainted but well maintained nails catching oassionally on a spin but she makes do. "Let me expand on that for those that need detail. Think first meetings or after seeing a partner after a long time. What is it that stands out?" She lets the question sit for a moment before adding her second. "This question is for the King." Her dark eyes flicker to him before dropping back to her page that was blank, but for appearance she pretend to remind herself. "What is something you wish that those you favor understood about you?" She purrs politely glancing back up. She'd throw him a bone to gloat, get others jealous of the detail she paid the Kingscholar's, if they already weren't.
Her petty revenge on the mafia for the games they played with her. Pride was an excellent way to stirr up things. She was tired of being their play thing, a joke. If they were gonna tug her around between them to stir up tensions she'd simply give them the loaded gun and watch. Nothing was a play of power quite like strategizing a baiting. And she was ready for it. The questions were well within her normal asking and all she simply did was tweak a few tonal changes and body movements to give intent of genuine curiosity. They had underestimated her and she planned on getting them back for it without saying a word. Let the hidden feuding and looming cloud of pride be their own downfall.
Once again the room filled with a reverie silence as the families made their entrance, one by one, and took their respective seats. You held in your throat a relieved sigh when seeing all three of the Kingscholar family, still somewhat bruised but all alive and kicking still — even Leona, who was presumably in the worst shape of them all, seemed to be healed without too many problems; he made his usual digs and comebacks and very teasing movements while answering to another interviewer’s question.
You also couldn’t help but notice that the Draconia family was a little…short staffed. In their own private section only the General, the man known as Lilia Von Rouge, was sitting alone, representing the members who were missing. Seemed like the pack of beasts got the payback from the week prior.
When you finished posing your questions the three men cocked their heads to one side simultaneously, like a group of cats perched on the same fence — even if the first comparison that came to your mind was that of a synchronized swimming group.
“I wouldn't necessarily describe it as attractive, but if you ask what's the first thing I notice…I'd say the shoulders.” answered Jack without even taking a second to think.
“Boring.” said in unison the other two, to which Jack paid no mind.
“To me the shoulders are the first indicator to know what my partner, or any other person in general, had been up to in my absence. If they’re thin and sunken it means she was through a very physically demanding job or hasn’t eaten properly. If they’re slightly reddened it means she was someplace very hot and sunny, otherwise, when they're pale it means she was somewhere particularly cold, and so on…” he explained with minutia.
“I really don’t believe you.” said Ruggie, one brow raised, “That can’t be the first thing you notice in someone!”
“These are things you learn to notice when you’re in a relationship for quite some time. Not that you know what I’m talking ‘bout.”
“I beg your finest fucking pardon?”
You were glad to see them bickering, oddly. It felt like the events from the week prior didn’t affect them as badly as you predicted.
Once again Leona had to intervene in the discussion between the two, with a smile you could only describe as a mix between amused and motherly.
“Well… — started Ruggie, tapping his fingers rhythmically on the table as if the words failed to come to his mind — Either clothing or haircut.” he said finally. That answer earned a side eye from Jack — he got picked on for his answer and that is what the blond came up with? Unbelievable!
“These two things say a lot about a person, whether or not I'm attracted to them. They both give me a slight hunch on who I have to deal with. Fancy and flowing fabrics with long hair? A very feminine person, probably someone who’s got money and makes them rain like water. Baggy clothes three sizes their own with unkempt hair? Most likely someone who doesn’t have much confidence in their body, which gives me some ground to work with. Same for the opposite, if they have tight clothing in very obvious places and excessively kept hair, maybe tied, means they’re extremely confident in their body proportions… and are most likely looking for a hookup.”
“What about very short hair and flashy clothes?” Jack asked as a small grin started raising on his lips, Leona had one too.
“That is a Karen and no thank you! I’d rather pretend to be deaf mute than have one in my proximity! I think I’m speaking for everyone when I say that, I find myself near one I don’t think I might be able to stay civil for long.”
A loud, thundering laughter echoed in between the four marble walls of the parlor. You too found it hard to restrain a chuckle of your own.
You saw with clarity many of the family’s bosses barely containing their chuckles and giggles and snorts of pure amusement — that one was clearly a joke that resonated deep in everyone, independently from which side of the barricade.
Leona brought back the silence in the room with class, clinking one of his rings against the glass placed next to the microphone, like a progenitor asking for a toast.
“I appreciate your clarity of exposition of your question, it seems you have learned something after all our weekly meetings.” he said with the most raillery smile a man could ever wear. “Also, I appreciated your symbolic act of aid offered. Hope you don’t mind If I keep it with me for a few more days, I've been told that blood is a real nightmare to remove from clothes.” he added a bit more quietly.
“Anyway to answer your question, the first thing that I notice about someone are their eyes. I’m not talking about shape, color or any other thing running through the squirrel brain of some of you. More than aesthetics, my interest is purely in their language. The body can disguise some behaviors, many experts can even imitate some of them to deceive their interlocutor. But not the eyes, they are always faithful to their emotions. A few simple signals, a few glances if you will, are enough to immediately understand what is going on in their mind. If they are lying, if they are amused, if they are frightened, if they want to escape... if behind those irises the deepest hatred is imprinted. An experienced eye is capable of deducing many things just by reading the eyes, and as I said before...I keep mine always sharp.”
A few other interviewers started fidgeting, squirming in their seats at the idea of those emerald eyes reading their deepest emotions with just a single glance.
“While we’re at it, your second question is more personal. In the emotional sphere, type of personal. — you didn't miss how he spelled those last few words with a veiled tone of threat — I'll keep my answer simple: the one thing I wish that not only those I favor, but also those that dare to take me lightly, would understand about me is that if something really matters to me I'll play seriously. Away with the courtesy mask, off with the pleasantries, if I'm serious about someone or something you can bet I'm gonna stop playing with my food and instead bite where it hurts the most. Life is a battlefield and you have to fight to get what you want, that doesn't mean I'm going to throw in the towel that easily.”
Darkness suddently filled the room — a power outage.
In the middle of panicked screams and phones used as torches, the only thing you could focus on was Leona's eyes.
Sharp, predator-like, unforgiving. The cold stare of a serial killer that made the hair at the back of your neck stand up in alarm.
However, that stare wasn't directed at you. It was fixed on someone else, someone you couldn't perceive in the pitch black obscurity that had become the room. Whoever it was, you were sure, managed to truly angered the King.
And that wasn't a good sign.

Zoomposium with Dr. Dr. Walter von Lucadou: "At the borders between physics and psychology - hauntings, ghosts and other physically phenomena"

In this very exciting interview with Walter von Lucadou, this time we go to the extreme limits of physics but also of psychology, as our guest can also be seen as a border crosser between the two fields. First of all, here is an excerpt from Wikipedia.
Information about the person and his scientific research work
"Von Lucadou studied physics and psychology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and at the Freie Universität Berlin. After completing his diploma in physics, he was awarded a Dr. rer. nat. at the University of Freiburg and a Dr. phil. at the Free University of Berlin. From 1977 to 1978, von Lucadou worked as a physicist at the Kiepenheuer Institute for Solar Physics in Freiburg. From 1985 to 1987 he was a guest lecturer at the Parapsychological Laboratory of the University of Utrecht.
Influenced by Hans Driesch's book "Parapsychology - The Science of Occult Apparitions" and his teacher Hans Bender [3], he initiated a research project that was carried out from September 1979 to April 1985 at the Chair of Psychology and Frontier Areas of Psychology at the Institute of Psychology at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg. In 1986, he completed his doctorate in psychology at the FU Berlin. In 1989, Lucadou founded the parapsychological advice center of the Scientific Society for the Advancement of Parapsychology in Freiburg, which he has headed ever since[4]. Fields of research Walter von Lucadou conducts research in the field of parapsychology. He is one of the editors of various specialist journals and also acted as scientific advisor for the six-part ARD documentary "Dimension PSI", which was broadcast in 2003. His main areas of research are systems theory and border areas of psychology." (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_von_Lucadou, formatting and links added) Admittedly, I was a little skeptical about the whole subject at first, as "hauntings, ghosts and other supernatural phenomena" had previously been more in the realm of esotericism for me. During the preparation for this interview and the associated research, however, it turned out that von Lucadou is anything but a "spiritual ghost hunter", but on the contrary has both feet firmly in the scientific camp and tends to use empirical methods to rationally try to fathom the physically explainable phenomena. I was therefore very excited about the interview with him and afterwards also very "enthusiastic" (bon mot ;-), as the conversation with him also brought to light a lot of new findings on topics such as "consciousness, embodiment, but also quantum physics", which I had not expected at all. But before I keep you in suspense, here are the interview questions from Axel Stöcker (die-grossen-fragen.com) and myself to give you a rough idea. Interview questions for Dr. Dr. Walter von Lucadou: "At the boundaries between physics and psychology" 1) Have you ever been called an "esoteric", "spiritualist" or something of this kind and, if so, what is your response?
2) How would you define the term "parapsychology"? 3) What progress have you seen in parapsychology in recent decades and how do you think the acceptance of parapsychology has developed in society on the one hand and in the scientific world on the other? To explain paranormal phenomena, you often fall back on the concept of "entanglement", a term that is also used in quantum theory. As far as we understand, the term as you use it goes back to C. G. Jung's "synchronicity" and describes a non-causal relationship between events. 4) Could you explain this complex term in more detail? 5) In your opinion, is the quantum-physical phenomenon of entanglement related to psychological processes in the macroscopic realm and, if so, how? 6) Hartmann Römer assumes a "generalized quantum theory" in this context. Do you already have empirical findings for this theory for the entanglement relationships in cases of "macroscopic undecidability"? You have been running the Parapsychological Counseling Center in Freiburg for 30 years. One of the best-known phenomena that you deal with there are those that are commonly referred to as "hauntings". However, instead of hauntings, you prefer to talk about an "embodiment disorder" of the person concerned.
7) Could you explain this term, perhaps using the example of a particularly spectacular "haunting" case? You also report cases of "hauntings" where things spontaneously start to burn or where stones fly through the air. 8) In your opinion, where does the energy required for such phenomena come from (keyword: "conservation of energy")? Another well-known paranormal phenomenon is the so-called "near-death experience (NDE)", the existence of which is now well documented (e.g. by Pim van Lommel, 2007). 9) How do you assess the state of research on this phenomenon? 10) In your opinion, is there an explanation for NDEs within the framework of evolutionary theory, which would imply that NDEs are associated with a selection advantage? 11) Do you see any alternative explanations? One problem with phenomena such as "spooks" or NDEs is that they cannot normally be reproduced under laboratory conditions ("displacement effect"). 12) Doesn't that make such phenomena "unscientific" by definition? Or would you say that the world view of the empirical natural sciences is incomplete in the sense that they cannot fully grasp such phenomena with their instruments? For Michael Shannon, Waiting for Godot Is the Ultimate Opportunity
By Jake Nevins
Photographed by Travis Emery Hackett
November 21, 2023

The actor Michael Shannon, photographed by Travis Emery Hackett
Earlier this year, when I interviewed the actor Paul Sparks, who was then playing Henry in The Grey House, he revealed to me, a bit sooner than his publicists would have liked, that his next project was a production of Waiting for Godot at the Theater for a New Audience. The only actor, Sparks said, with whom he could imagine tackling the dense, despairing, and singularly precise words of Samuel Beckett was his good friend Michael Shannon. So, last week, nearly a decade after Sparks and Shannon starred in the theater’s 2014 staging of Eugène Ionesco’s The Killer, they began their run as Vladimir and Estragon, respectively, appearing here as a pair of wretched jesters in bowler hats. Director Arin Arbus has conceived of Beckett’s “country road” as a jet-black runway, making especially pronounced the characters’ experience of life as a punishing, empty void (“Let’s hang ourselves immediately,” Estragon suggests). But the actors, demonstrating an easy physical chemistry, fill it admirably, as Shannon synchronizes his brooding Gogo with Sparks’s Chaplinesque interpretation of Didi.
“It’s a monumental undertaking,” Shannon said the day after their opening show from a backroom of the theater. “Estragon is a state of mind that exists in all of us,” he continued, “or can exist in us if we’re overcome by it.” Shannon seemed, if not overcome by the play, at least deeply occupied by its notions of humanity. And while Beckett’s text commands a great deal of discipline and fidelity, he and Sparks were still plumbing its depths, finding new questions to ponder and play with. “The play,” he explained, “is an opportunity to go somewhere that doesn’t exist unless we’re doing it.”
———
MICHAEL SHANNON: Hi.
JAKE NEVINS: How’s it going?
SHANNON: Oh, you know.
NEVINS: I had the pleasure of seeing the show last night. Congratulations on such a fresh production of something that’s hard to make fresh.
SHANNON: Oh, yeah? Have you seen it before?
NEVINS: Only a high school production, and not with actors as formidable as you and Paul.
SHANNON: Thanks.
NEVINS: I’m curious what your prior encounters were with Waiting for Godot and Beckett’s work in general.
SHANNON: Well, I first saw Waiting for Godot when I was a kid. I think I was 11 or 12 and I saw it in a production that was outdoors, outside of a school actually, where the playground was, and it made a huge impression on me. I think it is probably one of the things that’s responsible for me getting into the theater in the first place. And I’ve seen Happy Days with Fiona Shaw at BAM [The Brooklyn Academy of Music], which I really loved. And I saw a production of Endgame at Steppenwolf, which I really loved. I’ve done a lot of Ionesco over the years and he’s kind of my favorite playwright, but I had never actually done a Beckett play myself. The way it came to be was kind of random, really. I was just sitting and talking with Jeffrey Horowitz, who runs the theater, and we were brainstorming about possible productions to put together and it just popped into my head, the idea of doing it with Paul, specifically.
NEVINS: I imagine the language, specifically all that philosophical slapstick, might be quite daunting.
SHANNON: Well, it’s a monumental undertaking. It’s not something that you can just follow simple instructions for. But, like most great plays, it really draws you back to your own life and your own situation. It’s very universal, I think. I think if you are willing to look at it and willing to be patient with it, it can reveal a lot to you about how you navigate your own life and navigate the world. And, frankly, I’ve just felt a lot of kinship with Estragon in terms of some of my own trials and tribulations of late. So it’s almost like you’re not really creating a person that’s separate from you. Estragon is a state of mind that exists in all of us, or can exist in us if we’re overcome by it. It’s different from other plays in that regard.
NEVINS: I appreciate that distinction and the way you both approached the characters. Paul, of course, plays Vladimir with a sort of playfulness, highly gestural and expressive. What’s it like to play opposite Vladimir as Paul has conceived of him?
SHANNON: Well, Paul is always giving so much of himself. He’s such a generous performer and he’s so playful and creative and intelligent in his work and it’s thrilling to fill the space that he creates. A lot of times I refer to it as a negative, like I’m the space around the light that he’s inhabiting and creating, like I’m the darkness. We both feel like there’s still so much to learn as we do the show. We don’t feel like we’ve figured it out or that we’re done and we can just do what we made up in rehearsal. We don’t want to just repeat something night after night. Now, it’s also a very deceptively precise show, so there is some discipline involved in terms of the rhythm of it. The music of it is very precise, but within those parameters, I feel like we both are still searching pretty fervently.

Vladimir and Estragon is that they entertain each other. That’s the substance of their friendship, that they’re able to keep each other occupied. And I think Estragon thinks that Vladimir is funny and that is something he desperately needs in order for him to keep on keeping on, as they say.
NEVINS: That’s interesting, because humor in the play serves that very same function for the audience, somewhat alleviating their sense of entrapment. Their kinship with one another makes you want to stick with something that might otherwise feel kind of punishing.
SHANNON: We really don’t intend to bum anybody out. I guess I’ve heard people talk about productions of this play that were, I don’t know, a little less buoyant than ours, I suppose. I think I even read a review that said they get the humor part, but they didn’t get the dark stuff right, or something.
NEVINS: A review of this production?
SHANNON: Of this production, yeah. I don’t know how to make dark stuff dark. It’s already dark.
NEVINS: Right.
SHANNON: The play is an opportunity. It’s an opportunity to go somewhere that doesn’t exist unless we’re doing it. And we want to welcome people into it. We don’t want to alienate people. We want people to hear it. We want people to hear the play because there’s nothing that’s in the room that’s going on that is as important as the actual play. The play is the star, and we’re just trying to deliver it in a way where you can hear it and feel it. We don’t want to put up walls, or make it seem inaccessible. The way it’s directed and designed is all about trying to make it feel intimate and trying to make it feel like you’re involved as an audience member. It’s not a proscenium. You’re not all sitting in the dark.
NEVINS: To your point, I quite liked the staging of it. The runway you two are on has a sprawl to it, as if that road could go on and on. But it doesn’t come at the cost of intimacy.
SHANNON: Thank you.
NEVINS: Are there other plays, canonical or otherwise, that you’re jonesing to do?
SHANNON: Not at this moment. Kind of like how I said earlier, this just kind of popped into my head. I’m pretty spontaneous about things. I don’t have a list at home of the things I want to do. Things just occur to me or present themselves to me and then I do them. But this theater is known for Shakespeare, and Jeffrey’s talked to me about doing Shakespeare, so maybe that’s on the horizon. But I wouldn’t even know which play. I get so focused on whatever it is that I’m doing that I forget about the future.
NEVINS: It shows. Congratulations. And thanks for your time.
SHANNON: My pleasure. Thank you.

Interview Questions to Ask When Hiring a .NET Developer
The success of your enterprise or web apps can be significantly impacted by your choice of .NET developer. Making the correct decision during interviews is crucial because .NET is a powerful framework that is utilized in a variety of industries, including finance and e-commerce. Dot Net engineers that are not only familiar with the framework but also have the ability to precisely and clearly apply it to real-world business problems are sought after by many software businesses.
These essential questions will assist you in evaluating candidates' technical proficiency, coding style, and compatibility with your development team as you get ready to interview them for your upcoming project.
Assessing Technical Skills, Experience, and Real-World Problem Solving
What experience do you have with the .NET ecosystem?
To find out how well the candidate understands .NET Core, ASP.NET MVC, Web API, and associated tools, start with a general question. Seek answers that discuss actual projects and real-world applications rather than only theory.
Follow-up: What version of .NET are you using right now, and how do you manage updates in real-world settings?
Experience with more recent versions, such as .NET 6 or .NET 8, can result in fewer compatibility problems and improved performance when hiring Dot Net developers.
How do you manage dependency injection in .NET applications?
One essential component of the scalable .NET design is dependency injection. An excellent applicant will discuss built-in frameworks, how they register services, and how they enhance modularity and testability.
Can you explain the difference between synchronous and asynchronous programming in .NET?
Performance is enhanced by asynchronous programming, particularly in microservices and backend APIs. Seek a concise description and examples that make use of Task, ConfigureAwait, or async/await.
Advice: When hiring backend developers, candidates who are aware of async patterns are more likely to create apps that are more efficient.
What tools do you use for debugging and performance monitoring?
Skilled developers know how to optimize code in addition to writing it. Check for references to Postman, Application Insights, Visual Studio tools, or profiling tools such as dotTrace.
This demonstrates the developer's capacity to manage problems with live production and optimize performance.
How do you write unit and integration tests for your .NET applications?
Enterprise apps require testing. A trustworthy developer should be knowledgeable about test coverage, mocking frameworks, and tools like xUnit, NUnit, or MSTest.
Hiring engineers with strong testing practices helps tech organizations avoid expensive errors later on when delivering goods on short notice.
Describe a time you optimized a poorly performing .NET application.
This practical question evaluates communication and problem-solving abilities. Seek solutions that involve database query optimization, code modification, or profiling.
Are you familiar with cloud deployment for .NET apps?
Now that a lot of apps are hosted on AWS or Azure, find out how they handle cloud environments. Seek expertise in CI/CD pipelines, containers, or Azure App Services.
This is particularly crucial if you want to work with Dot Net developers to create scalable, long-term solutions.
Final Thoughts
You may learn more about a developer's thought process, problem-solving techniques, and ability to operate under pressure via a well-structured interview. These questions provide a useful method to confidently assess applicants if you intend to hire Dot Net developers for intricate or high-volume projects.
The ideal .NET hire for expanding tech organizations does more than just write code; they create the framework around which your products are built.

T-ara Eunjung Heraldpop Interview ③
T-ara was a groundbreaking group that debuted through MBC's Radio Star. Reflecting on that time, Ham Eunjung shared,
"There were only two pages of script, and even the broadcasting station was very against it. We couldn't even get our greetings synchronized. It was only when each member took turns doing talent shows that people started to get to know who we were. Our debut was really chaotic, but we were told, 'You need to be harshly criticized and debut under pressure, even from outsiders.' We felt that debuting under protection wouldn't have worked against the bigger idol groups from major agencies,"
Ham Eunjung also mentioned how she feels when she sees 2nd-generation idols making a comeback and the actors she worked with back then.
"When 2nd-gen idols make a comeback, I feel envious and think they look amazing. In 2012, during T-ara’s prime, I appeared on We Got Married on MBC and had a golden period. Meeting Baek Sunghyun and Lee Jangwoo again feels really nice. It’s like meeting old friends, and because we already know each other, there's no need to act superior. It's like a mutual recognition of each other."
Now 37 years old, Ham Eun-jung once dreamt of getting married at 40.
"Actors who were former idols seem to hit a reset after getting married post-40 and enter a new phase of middle age. I think it’s because I’m such a workaholic. Marriage is important, but so is my current life. I want to build and prepare over the next three years and get married after I turn 40. I do worry about how my image might change once I’m married. Even now, when I play the role of a mother or a married woman, people question why I’m doing it when I’m single or suggest that I play younger roles to extend my career. But I don’t think that way. I can play roles that match my age. If I play these roles more now, people might think, 'Wasn't she already married?' when I do get married, so there will be less pressure later."
"I like keeping my personal life separate from my public work. I want to keep working for as long as I can. My main concern is how marriage might affect my acting and change my image. But since so many people already assume I’m married, I feel like it won’t matter much if I marry late. Even if people say all the good men are taken, I’m fine with that. What matters more to me is my stance on my work—T-ara and acting are my priorities. Actually, my current dilemma is about how to furnish my home, now that I've recently moved out on my own,"

AI recruiting software plays a critical role in modern hiring practices by performing several key functions such as 1. AI Recruiter
AI recruiters conduct interviews that mimic human interaction by asking relevant questions, evaluating responses, and even negotiating salaries. This AI-powered interviewer ensures fair, efficient, and smooth recruitment experiences, providing in-depth insights into candidate suitability. 2. Automated Job Posting
AI recruiting software streamlines the recruitment process by automating job postings. It generates customized job descriptions based on the job title and your specifications, and then automatically publishes them on various job boards. This functionality broadens your outreach and attracts top-notch talent, guaranteeing that your job postings receive exposure to a wide audience. Save time by automatically sharing your job openings across multiple job boards with just one click. 3. Advanced Parsing Goes Beyond keywords.
Advanced resume parsing technology evaluates resumes with human-like accuracy. It collects and compares resumes from different job boards, matching them with your job descriptions. This guarantees that only the most appropriate candidates are selected for interviews, significantly reducing the time and effort needed for manual screening..
4. Interview Scheduling
AI recruiting software handles the entire interview scheduling process. From sending interview invitations to managing calendar updates, the system ensures a smooth experience for both candidates and recruiters. Clients can set interview start and end dates, and the system will handle the remaining tasks, streamlining the scheduling process.
5. Templates for Interviews
Customizable interview templates are available in AI recruiting software, allowing you to tailor them to match your specific job requirements.
These templates guarantee consistent and fair assessment of all candidates, making it easier to efficiently identify the best talent.
6. Evaluation of Coding Skills
In the case of technical positions, AI recruiting software conducts live coding tests using an advanced editor.
Candidates are required to complete coding challenges that are relevant to the job description, and their real-time performance is evaluated.
Comprehensive coding reports are then forwarded to the HR department for further examination, ensuring that candidates possess the necessary technical skills.
7. Integration
AI recruiting software integrates seamlessly with your existing recruitment workflow. The platform ensures smooth data transfer and synchronization, enhancing your hiring process, whether you're using an Applicant Tracking System (ATS) or other HR tools.
8. Reports and Analytics After completing interviews and tests, AI recruiting software generates detailed reports containing metrics such as code quality, problem-solving approach, and overall proficiency. These reports provide valuable insights to HR departments, enabling them to make informed hiring decisions. Benefits of Using AI in Recruitment: A Win-Win for Businesses and Candidates
Embracing AI in your recruitment strategy offers numerous advantages: 1. Enhanced Efficiency and Speed Utilizing AI recruiting software speeds up the hiring process by automating repetitive tasks like resume screening and interview scheduling. This enables HR professionals to concentrate on more strategic tasks, such as interacting with top candidates and improving recruitment strategies. 2. Cost Savings
Automating various stages of recruitment can lead to significant cost savings. AI recruiting software decreases the necessity for extensive manual work, reduces the time taken to hire, and limits the resources spent on candidate assessment. 3. Unbiased Decision-Making
AI algorithms assess candidates using data, decreasing the likelihood of unconscious bias in the recruitment process. This fosters diversity and inclusivity by guaranteeing that candidates are appraised solely on their qualifications and suitability for the position. 4. Enhancing Candidate Satisfaction
Enhanced candidate experience is achieved through AI recruiting software, which ensures candidates receive timely updates and reduces response times. This results in consistent and prompt communication, leaving a favorable impression of the company on candidates.
5. Ability to Expand

Meduza:
Interview with Nikolai Petrov on where Russia is headed with an ‘87-percent president’
Nikolai Petrov, a consulting fellow on the Russia and Eurasia Program at Chatham House in London, spoke to Meduza about Vladimir Putin’s latest voting success. Petrov argued that the presidential election was a no-win situation for the Kremlin, but its losses won’t be apparent until later. He said that Putin is caught in upward-spiraling victories with higher and higher turnout and vote shares that now undermine his reelections as proof of popularity. As a result, the elites on whom Putin ultimately depends increasingly question his status as “national leader.” “Putin is a monster but not an idiot,” Petrov said, claiming that even the president doesn’t believe his own election figures. Aware of his weakened status, Putin will likely refrain from extremely unpopular policymaking (such as an immediate new round of mobilization), though necessary tax reforms and redistributions of property (to advance a new generation of loyal oligarchs) will go ahead.
Petrov said that the Kremlin suffered three “serious image blows” in the presidential election: (1) the long lines of Russians endorsing anti-war politician Boris Nadezhdin’s candidacy, (2) the large crowd that attended Alexey Navalny’s burial, and (3) the “Noon Against Putin” campaign to synchronize protest voting against Putin. At the same time, Petrov argued that the anti-Kremlin opposition suffers without Navalny, who was the group’s only politician who succeeded in articulating an agenda and uniting disparate groups. Petrov acknowledges that these dissident displays hardly imperil the Putin regime, but he says they’re important symbolically to oppositionist Russians themselves. Meanwhile, the Kremlin risks sparking “real extremism” by pressing activists into radicalized desperation.
Asked about a possible government cabinet shakeup, Petrov argued that Putin is stuck with an old management model that rewards loyalty over efficiency — the opposite formula practiced by technocrats like Prime Minister Mishustin and domestic policy czar Sergey Kiriyenko. The Putin formula’s key problem is its incapacity for renewal. In other words, the technocratic management system becomes inevitable as Putin’s trusted inner circle grows smaller and older.

I made the mistake yesterday of arriving early at the wrong building for this interview. You know because I plan stuff out to have enough room for error. Sat and looked at the book collection in the second tallest building on campus in the lobby. Honest mistake really and some really good titles to look at. This guy in a dashiki came up to me asking for directions with a phone to a room number with the same number as my street address at home in a building with a different address as the one for my interview. (No I did not bring my phone again but easy enough to swipe in that situation if I did.) The room number was the dead giveaway. No synchronicity in that at all. I flagged down a woman because I couldn’t figure out the address we were at. It turned out the woman helped him because he was in the right building and I realized by chance I was in the wrong one but figured it out myself. Didn’t say anything just left the moment be. That woman kind of followed me out expecting me to ask her for directions like she knew I was in the wrong place. It felt like this forced American serendipitous setup. Pure civic puppetry. So I just walked south to the other tall building on campus which happened to be the engineering building. Not social engineering mind you. But I ended up at the university hall first by chance and free will and took care of it myself while helping another person. Just before I walked in that building I came across some graffiti on the sidewalk of that wrong building in green. It said kind of breathlessly “we must be the generation to ask questions.” Your generation maybe. As far as the nanny state? I’m of the generation to think for myself. Maybe people should start treating me like it instead of assuming I’m going to beg for their help. I definitely can’t direct you to the white savior complex so don’t ask me for directions. As far as that pseudo mystical we’re all in this together shit? It really makes me feel like as good as an interview as it was? It wasn’t real. Like the office of consumer protection and business affairs thing. Just an excuse to interrogate me. So ask yourself the question why I would think that America. And maybe make me a genuine offer this time. Otherwise I’m going to just think this is another setup and leave room for a margin of error meant to knock me out of pole position. 🤷♀️
