Gillian Reynolds Casting gives some tips to actors on choosing a monologue
Gillian Reynolds Casting:Tips for Choosing a Film Monologue:
The other day an actor wanted to add some material to their showreel and asked for some tips! So here you go!
Firstly- make sure you have a decent camera and that the sound is good. Most phones nowadays are absolutely fine.
Directors often appreciate monologues from films because they demonstrate your ability to connect with on-screen material. Explore film scripts online. Look for scenes with compelling dialogue and emotional depth. Choose your age range! adapt the script to suit your accent and location!
Avoid Overdone Monologues: Just like in theatre, certain film monologues become overdone and lose their impact. Steer clear of cliché choices that directors may have heard countless times. Opt for something fresh and unexpected that still resonates with you.
Choose What You Love: Don't settle for a monologue you don't enjoy. Your passion for the material will shine through in your performance. Take the time to find a film monologue that excites you and allows you to showcase your skills effectively.
Opt for Active Scenes: select film monologues where the character is engaged in the action. Avoid narrative-heavy speeches and instead focus on scenes where something is happening in the present moment. This helps highlight your acting abilities and emotional range.
Consider the Context: Tailor your monologue to the genre, tone, and time period of the film you're auditioning for. If the film has a specific setting or cultural context, choose a monologue that aligns with it. This demonstrates your understanding of the project and helps the director envision you in a role.
Show Versatility: Avoid using just one monologue for your showreel when you are up and running.. Directors appreciate actors who can adapt to different styles and tones. Have at least two monologues for your showreel link when you are beginning to work within the Industry.
Highlight Your Skills: If the film you're auditioning for has specific requirements, such as an accent or a particular emotional range, incorporate these elements into your monologue. Showcase your ability to meet the demands of the role right from the audition.
Be Prepared to Discuss Your Choice: Directors may ask you about your monologue selection. Be ready to explain why you chose that particular scene and how it aligns with the character and the film's overall theme.
Good luck everyone!

Ohhh ya little bollocks, picked the wrong fucking one
Israel's BIG MAD Ireland isn't fucking bowing to them right now. Thanks to their shit, Paddy Cosgrave and President Michael D Higgins seem to be the biggest villains in Ireland right now.
So one of their 'diplomats' decided to fuck around and got caught. How many inflammatory Tweets filled with accusation and lies have genocide advocates had to delete these last 2 weeks?
EXPEL THE ISRAELI AMBASSADOR.
IRELAND STANDS WITH PALESTINE.

Doe aqui GoFundMe Fonte: The Irish Times Read the full article

Dolphins at Delamain Lodge I had planned to photograph Delamain Lodge for a while but never thought the day I do, I would also have dolphins as a foreground subject! Yes that’s right! Four young dolphins came to visit Kinvara this afternoon. First Venice now Kinvara 😂 #shootlocal #2k #covid19 I don’t know where they came from, if they got lost or if they came because the bay is so much cleaner now. We have seen so many positive changes in Nature since the pandemic started, or better ... since we had to slow down. It was beautiful to watch and I hope they are ok to make their way home wherever that is. Thanks @jackieveale_ for the tip! #dolphins #kinvara #dolphinesinkinvara #dolphinesinvenice #wildatlanticway #delamainlodge #delamainlodge #kinvarapier #irishtimes #rte #irelanddaily #irelandtravel #ireland_insta #dolphines (at Kinvara Pier) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_2n4jpJxyd/?igshid=bhlwy6lyy48n

“In a deleted passage in Hemingway’s story Big Two-Hearted River, he wrote: “He wanted to write like Cézanne painted. Cézanne started with all the tricks. Then he broke the whole thing down and built the real thing. It was hell to do . . . He . . . wanted to write about country so that it would be there like Cézanne had done it in painting . . . He felt almost holy about it.” Some of the most beautiful and perceptive writing about Cézanne’s work was by the poet Rilke.
“The artist,” Cézanne said, “must avoid thinking like a writer.” By this I understand him to mean that the painter must avoid narrative in a picture, or taking sides, however briefly, for one tone against another, or offering moral truth or even ironies, or allowing mere feelings to interfere with a picture, including a portrait. It is perhaps for this reason that writers, who much of the time believe also that writers must avoid thinking like writers, have been so interested in Cézanne, and why his work and the legend of his life, as dramatised in these letters, have endured.
