Notes: Excellent 4k capture of Josh and Annaleigh’s last show with the company. One long blackout during the Ballad of Sweeney Todd due to usher activity (unfortunately, there is no video of Josh's entrance), and the beginning of “God, That’s Good!” is audio only due to latecomers/usher activity. A few other occasional blackouts due to usher activity. Video takes a while to get settled in act one, but once it does, action is followed well with a mix of mediums, wides, and zooms. Minor obstruction from a railing and heads from time to time. Includes Josh and Annaleigh’s goodbye speeches.

The role of women - and the issue of women's rights - within the Abolition movement, precipitated a division in 1840 in the ranks of the Anti-Slavery Society, for, as Stanton et al. comment, ‘Many a man who advocated equality most eloquently for a Southern plantation, would not tolerate it at his own fireside’ (ibid.). For the World's Anti-Slavery Convention in London, an invitation had been issued to all Anti-Slavery organisations in America and accordingly, say Stanton et al. ‘several American societies saw fit to send women, as delegates, to represent them in that august assembly’ (ibid.). If the issue of woman's rights had split the Anti-Slavery societies of America, it was to be no less divisive and disturbing at the Convention in London.
After going three thousand miles, say the editors, ‘it was discovered that women formed no part of the constituent elements of the moral world. In summoning the friends of the slave from all parts of the two hemispheres to meet in London, John Bull never dreamed that woman, too, would answer his call. Imagine then the commotion in the conservative anti-slavery circles in England, when it was known that half a dozen of these terrible women who had spoken to promiscuous assemblies, voted on men and measures, prayed and petitioned against slavery, women who had been mobbed, ridiculed by the press and denounced by the pulpit were on their way to England’ (ibid, pp. 53-4). And imagine what happened when on 12 June 1840 the women arrived to present their credentials - ‘The excitement and vehemence of protest and denunciation could not have been greater, if the news had come that the French were about to invade England’ (ibid., p. 54).
The issue of whether or not to admit women was debated at length (and is well covered in the History, vol. I pp. 54-61, and not only makes for enlightening reading but puts paid to the notion that the battle for women to appear in public was peculiar to America). One man on the committee, who had issued the invitations, said: ‘As soon as we heard the liberal interpretation Americans had given to our first invitation, we issued another as early as Feb 15, in which the description of those who are to form the Convention is set forth as consisting of “gentlemen”’ (ibid., p. 55.) ‘The Rev. J. Burnet, an Englishman,’ state the editors, ‘made a most touching appeal to the American ladies, to conform to English prejudices and custom, so far as to with draw their credentials, as it never did occur to the British and Foreign Anti-Slavery Society that they were inviting ladies. It is better, said he, that this Convention should be dissolved at this moment than this motion (to admit women should be adopted’ (ibid.).
Many of the arguments advanced for the exclusion of women were put forward by the clergy of both Britain and America, and after lengthy - and often ludicrous debate - finally, ‘the vote was taken, and the women excluded as delegates of the Convention, by an overwhelming majority’ (ibid., p. 60). They were forced to sit in the gallery, where they were fenced off behind a bar and a curtain. Wendell Phillips, who had supported their admission, was however 'gracious in defeat', and implied that women would no doubt follow the proceedings with as much interest from behind the bar and the curtain (ibid.). Stanton expresses her outrage at his failure to understand the women's position and says it is important to mention ‘that it is almost impossible for the most liberal of men to understand what liberty means for woman’ (ibid., pp. 60-1).

NR526N, Curtiss Robin J-1 Deluxe "Ole Miss", NASM Silver Hill, Maryland, 09-08-1974 by Gordon Riley Via Flickr: Aviation's exuberant adolescence was also marked by a penchant for endurance records. In July 1929, Dale Jackson and Forest O'Brine set an impressive record in a Challenger-powered Robin, with the help of aerial refueling, remaining aloft for 420 hours and 17 minutes. When the record was extended by a Stinson monoplane the following June, they took off again in the Robin on July 21, 1930, and set a new mark of 647 hours and 28 minutes. The greatest record for sustained flight was set five years later in a Whirlwind-powered Curtiss Robin J-1 Deluxe named Ole Miss. After two unsuccessful attempts in 1934, brothers Fred and Algene Key took off from Meridian, Mississippi, on June 4, 1935, and landed again 27 days later for a total flight time of 653 hours and 34 minutes. There to greet the exhausted fliers on the evening of July 1 were 35,000 wildly cheering spectators. Among the dangers they had faced were severe thunderstorms and an electrical fire. During the flight, Fred and Al Key took turns manning the controls and sleeping on the extra fuel tank behind them in the cabin. They received food, fuel, and supplies 432 times through a sliding roof hatch from another Robin. A metal catwalk on the forward section of the aircraft made in-flight maintenance and lubrication of the engine possible. Their Wright Whirlwind engine consumed 6.500 gallons of gasoline, at a rate of 10 gallons per hour, and 300 gallons of oil. Their estimated ground track was 52,320 miles, or more than twice the circumference of the earth. Almost twenty years after its famous flight, the Key family offered Ole Miss to the National Air Museum. On July 2, 1955, Fred Key flew the famous Robin, now fully restored, to National Airport in Washington, D.C., where it was formally presented to the Smithsonian Institution.

J Disney Cruise
We surprised the kids with a Disney cruise and we counted down the days. Adi and Grady went to a half day at school and we picked them up and headed straight to the airport. Frist airplane for Graham and 1st one that Grady remembered. They loved playing tablets, getting sprite and of course the snacks. We landed in Ft. Lauderdale and got a car to the hotel. It was a chilly day but the boys still made it to the pool. Adi and mom walked to the port to make sure we could find it. It was only about a half mile-easy walk for the morning. We had pizza at the hotel and headed to sleep early.
The next morning we woke up and waited to board the ship. Our time was 11:00. We were the 3rd group in line to board. We walked through the check in line and waited in the concierge room until the boat was ready for us. We got on the boat to a grand entrance while they announced our name. Captain Mickey was at the top waving as we arrived. We went straight to Royal for lunch. We had our first Mickey bar after lunch. On the way to our room, we saw Cinderella, Tiana, and Pluto walking around.
After lunch, we headed to our room where our bags magically appeared. We had a huge veranda and a large room with tons of storage. We went to the pool, Adi and Nate rode the Aquaduck and we got ice cream. The boys watched a show on the big screen by the pool. We checked out the kids club and the kids loved it. Starwars room, tinkerbell, Toy story room. There were video games and movies and lots of fun things for them. We saw Mickey before dinner in the lobby and then ate at Animators Palace. Our waiter was Allen and he was wonderful He did magic every night and was so good with the kids, even cut Grady’s steak. The restaurant was nemo themed and there was interaction with the turtle from nemo, Crush. After dinner, we went to the room and our bunk beds and couch bed were made. Kids loved it. After dinner was our first show, The Golden Mickeys. It was so so good and had lots of movie songs. We got popcorn and enjoyed the show.
Day 2 was Marvel Day at Sea-so much fun. We woke up and ate breakfast at the buffee and went to see Spiderman, Iron Man, Groot and loki. We then went to see Captain America. We saw Black Panther and then ran into Wasp and Ant man in the lobby. We saw a Wakanda show with Okoya. As we were walking around, we saw Dr Strange, Ms Marvel and Captain Marvel.
Graham needed a nap so Adi, mom, and Grady did a scavenger hunt around the ship to save the 101 dalmations.
We skipped our sit down dinner tonight and went to the pool and waited for the Marvel Mickey show on the pool deck. All the characters came out dressed as super heroes.
We did a little shopping for souveniers (thanks Gigi and Grandpa).
We got spots early to the Marvel show up on deck 12. The show was amazing. Flying heroes, Spiderman climbing the wall, fighting and it ended with fireworks. We were all amazed. We were up until after 11 this night!
Day 3 we ate at Cabanas in the morning and then got off the ship in Cozumel. We took a taxi to Paradise beach. Adi, Grady and dad went on the water inflatables before it started pouring down rain. It finally stopped and we played in the pool and got some nachos.
We got back on the ship and got ready for pirate night. Before we left Mexico, the Dream and the Magic did a horn battle.
We walked around and saw Donald, Chip and Dale before heading to dinner at Enchanted Garden. It was pirate night and the kids got light up glasses. After dinner we went to the pool deck for the Mickey pirate show and then went to the Ventriloquist show. It was so good and the kids were laughing so hard. We were all tired so we skipped the pirate night who and mom, dad and Grady watched fireworks from our porch.
Day 4 was princess day. We had the princess ball in the morning so we got to see Cinderella, Belle, Mulan, and Ariel and Rapunzel. The kids went to kids club a little this day and mom and dad watched the Steelers in the pub. We played a fun couple rounds of Bingo, met Captain American Falcon, and had a character dance party. Nate and Adi did some hot tub time and went to the 14 floor lookout. We had a private meet and Greet with Donald followed by milkshakes on the sundeck. Dinner was at Enchanted garden again where we had more magic from Allen. We saw the Beauty and the Beast show after dinner in the theater which was amazing.
Day 5 was spent in Castaway Key. This was our favorite place. Clear waters, white sand and amazing weather. As we were getting off the ship, Mickey was coming of too so we got to get off with him. We walked to the beach and got some beautiful pics and saw some Characters. We played in the sand and the kids did the ropes course in the water. We dropped the kids off at the kids club for water play and Nate and I walked the island a little. We picked the kids up for a Character dance party with Goofy and Minnie. Then we got some BBQ lunch on the island. Grady fell asleep for a while and then it was time to get back on the ship. We saw Stitch as we were getting on the ship. We went to the hot tub on our floor and then rested for a little before dinner. We ate at Royal Palace for our last night. We took the kids to the kids club one last time then went to the Believe show. After dinner, we went to the lobby for a goodbye party. We got to get autographs one last time and we finally were able to get Daisy’s autograph. She was our last one that we needed. Adi cried as we said SEA you later.
The next morning was early and we had to get off the ship by 8:30. We had the very best time and made some awesome memories. The characters, entertainment, kids club, staff, cleanliness was all top notch and we would definitely do it again.

118 YEARS AGO YESTERDAY IN CORSICANA. . . On Wednesday, March 13, 1901, a 22-year-old African American man named Jonas “John” Henderson was burned at the stake in Corsicana, Texas. Seven days earlier, a white woman named Valley Dale Younger was brutally murdered at her home and her death was apparently witnessed by her two children. According to the Dallas Times Herald, her kids claimed “A big negro knocked mama down and dragged her away.” Valley’s body was found by her father approximately 150 feet from her home and her husband Conway formed a search party with some neighbors and procured bloodhounds. For the next few days, the search party—which came to include Navarro County law enforcement personnel—zigzagged back and forth in a westward direction. On Monday, March 11, they took Henderson (who was a big “Negro”) into custody near Hillsboro. Back in Corsicana, plans for a lynching were already in the works and Henderson’s legally appointed captors were weary of returning. They contacted McLennan County Sheriff J. W. Baker in Waco and asked if Henderson could be transferred there until a trial could be arranged, but Baker said no. Henderson spent the night in the Hillsboro jail and the next day Governor Joseph D. Sayers got word to law enforcement officials instructing them to transport him to Fort Worth. On Tuesday, March 12, Navarro County Constable W. B. Grantham, a Navarro County Deputy Sheriff named Hammond and Bell County Sheriff Sam Sparks boarded a northbound train in Hillsboro with Henderson and headed to Fort Worth. Just before the train arrived at the Itasca stop, several armed Corsicana citizens (who had also boarded the train in Hillsboro) got the drop on Henderson’s escort and seized him. The vigilantes transported Henderson forty-five miles back to Corsicana by horseback and placed him in the Navarro County jail in the custody of newly elected sheriff Wiley B. Robinson. The next morning, a committee including Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace H. G. Roberts visited Henderson and “determined” his guilt, at which point Henderson reportedly inscribed his “X” (he could neither read nor write) to a signed confession and dictated a letter to his father. Informalities complete, the committee decided Henderson should be burned at the stake at 2:00 pm. When news arrived that Texas Rangers and state militia were in route from Dallas, the committee moved the execution time up to 11:00 am. The lynch-mob’s staging group drove a trolley car rail into the ground on one side of the Navarro County courthouse, stacked boxes and lumber around it and then saturated the kindling with coal oil. Near the assigned hour, Sheriff Robinson was warned to remain at the jail and two dozen men escorted Henderson by chain from the jailhouse to the steel rail in the yard. As Henderson was fastened to the stake with wire and chains, the Corsicana fire bell rang to summon folks from the surrounding stores and businesses. Just before the conflagration was lit, Conway Younger approached Henderson and slashed him across the face with a knife. After Henderson was aflame, Conway attempted to slash him again and several women from the Younger neighborhood reportedly threw wood into the fire as it blazed, conspicuously aiming for Henderson’s head. Emitting nary a whimper, Henderson was dead within ten minutes. The mob dispersed quietly and memento seekers sifted through the charred remains. Judge Roberts subsequently performed an “inquest,” but it resembled more a coronation of the affair rather than a coroner’s report: "I find that the deceased came to his just death at the hands of the incensed and outraged feelings of the best people in the United States, the citizens of Navarro and adjoining counties. The evidence, as well as the confession of guilt by deceased, shows that his punishment was fully merited and commendable." A crowded, northbound train arrived in Corsicana at noon and its passengers were disappointed to find they that had missed the spectacle. The rumored Texas Ranger and state militia forces never materialized. Governor Sayers’s
