i have this problem where i genuinely think discussing ‘real’ cases is a good way to explore and better understand our world, but also, the culture around True Crime is so fucking gross I can’t stand most of the content it creates

#the whole. armchair sleuthing. the ‘favorite murder’ talk. the victim blaming.#the talking about victims or survivors or worst perpetrators like they are personal friends.#it’s all DEEPLY uncomfortable to me #also the weird like. ‘xyz simple explanation COULDN’T be it reasonable people don’t ACT like that’#oh and also the way true crime obsessed people are convinced murder lurks around every door #JUST. the current ‘true crime’ culture is so ascientific and Logic Bro (weirdly for being made uo largely of women)#I j u s t don’t like it! on the occasion i can find good stuff though #i find the insight into actual investigative work really interesting #and the insight into how people who are scared or in crisis can act in WILDLY irrational ways #idk like i said i think there is a lot of genuine value in discussing these things #just the way it’s being done in mainstream rn... doesn’t make me feel good #yes this is abt the gabby case #having people aware of an ongoing investigation? good #prompting a discussion about domestic violence? good.#the weird capitalizing and infighting? weird and bad #the ‘we’re gonna solve this through armchair sleuthing!’ seems to cause more nonsense than it helps #i tried listening to one (1) pod on it and they went #we’re your hub for ALL THINGS related to this case! be sure to subscribe share your thoughts and join our patreon!#like that just feels so GROSS to me dude
