Jackie starts wearing hoodies when he's 13 and... changing, he doesn't like the change, it makes him feel weird gross and wanting to crawl out of his own skin.

He keeps his hair in a ponytail and under his hood and hopes people don't notice. They notice. He cuts his hair and can't preform for a week.

Jackie grows out of his hoodie when he's 14 and has to... borrow a new one from the lost and found. His adopters scrunch their noses at it but don't say anything until it "mysteriously" disappears from one of his suitcases. 

He's heartbroken and every time he looks in the mirror he wants to peel his skin off. He sneaks into their medics tent and steals some ace bandages and wraps his chest flat. He struggles to breathe but it's more comfortable than having to feel the flaps of fat on his chest.

He takes them off for practice and pretends to not notice the bruises. 

Jackie's 15 and a half when he meets a man passing through the same town as his family. He meets him outside a convince store and the man offers to help him out upon seeing the ace bandages poorly hidden beneath his tank top. 

Jackie is 15 and a half when he gets his first binder, it's lightly used but it's the only one that fits him. He doesn't care. It's bright green, one of his favorite colors. 

The man gets him a hoodie too, a large one that he'll have to grow into but he loves it nonetheless, the red is a comforting color, it makes him feel safe and he nearly cries when he puts it on. The Man offers to get him his hair cut as well, he turns it down as he remembers the last time he cut it.

He doesn't see the way the man frowns as he sees the fear on his face and merely buys him some more clothes as well and a few pieces of candy for the road before Jackie asks him why he helped him.

His heart flutters happily when hearing that the man's husband had a rough childhood because of him being a male when people choose to view him as something he wasn't just because of "Silly little Body Parts". It's nice to know that other people like him. He suppresses a laugh at the man's phrasing though.

The man leaves him with a card with his number on it and tells him to call him if he needs anything.

Jackie is 16 when he runs away. He gives himself a near buzz cut before running after a particularly bad practice session. He toys with the thought of calling before deciding against him.

Jackie's 19 when he meets one of his brothers for the first time since they were children. He has a noticeably different accent but it's him. The only thing that could surpass the joy of his brother remembering and recognizing him as his brother is if all of his brothers suddenly showed up and did the same thing.

Jackie's 20 when he starts taking hormones, his brother doesn't ask where he gets them and he doesn't tell.

He's 24 when he starts growing facial hair, when he notices, he flaps his hands so hard he ends up smacking himself in the face. He lets Henrik laugh at him while he hands Jackie the Tylenol.

Jackie is 25 when he becomes a vigilante, Henrik finds out it's him pretty quickly and hits him over the head with a rolled up magazine for doing something so strenuous with his binder on. He promises not to do it again and keeps his hoodie on whenever he goes out to burn some people.

Jackie is 26 when he gets top surgery, he's not allowed to go out for almost three months because of Henrik's fretting. 

Jackie is finally able to start going out again just in time for June. He decides for the first day of patrol back, he'll wear his pride flag like a cape.

Standing atop the tallest sky scrapper in the city, he breathes. For the first time in years, he feels... hopeful. Good things are coming and will continue to come, he knows it. He's slowly getting better, feeling more and more like himself, every time he looks in the mirror he doesn't feel like it's a stranger looking back at them.

He's happy, he has one of his brothers here with him, and they're working on finding the others, and he knows, he just knows it, that everything will be okay.

Things Biden and the Democrats did, this week #10

March 15-22 2024

The EPA announced new emission standards with the goal of having more than half of new cars and light trucks sold in the US be low/zero emission by 2032. One of the most significant climate regulations in the nation’s history, it'll eliminate 7 billion tons of CO2 emissions over the next 30 years. It's part of President Biden's goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030 on the road to eliminating them totally by 2050.

President Biden canceled nearly 6 Billion dollars in student loan debt. 78,000 borrowers who work in public sector jobs, teachers, nurses, social workers, firefighters etc will have their debt totally forgiven. An additional 380,000 public service workers will be informed that they qualify to have their loans forgiven over the next 2 years. The Biden Administration has now forgiven $143.6 Billion in student loan debt for 4 million Americans since the Supreme Court struck down the original student loan forgiveness plan last year.

Under Pressure from the administration and Democrats in Congress Drugmaker AstraZeneca caps the price of its inhalers at $35. AstraZeneca joins rival Boehringer Ingelheim in capping the price of inhalers at $35, the price the Biden Admin capped the price of insulin for seniors. The move comes as the Federal Trade Commission challenges AstraZeneca’s patents, and Senator Bernie Sanders in his role as Democratic chair of the Senate Health Committee investigates drug pricing.

The Department of Justice sued Apple for being an illegal monopoly in smartphones. The DoJ is joined by 16 state attorneys general. The DoJ accuses Apple of illegally stifling competition with how its apps work and seeking to undermining technologies that compete with its own apps.

The EPA passed a rule banning the final type of asbestos still used in the United States. The banning of chrysotile asbestos (known as white asbestos) marks the first time since 1989 the EPA taken action on asbestos, when it passed a partial ban. 40,000 deaths a year in the US are linked to asbestos

President Biden announced $8.5 billion to help build advanced computer chips in America. Currently America only manufactures 10% of the world's chips and none of the most advanced next generation of chips. The deal with Intel will open 4 factories across 4 states (Arizona, Ohio, New Mexico, and Oregon) and create 30,000 new jobs. The Administration hopes that by 2030 America will make 20% of the world's leading-edge chips.

President Biden signed an Executive Order prioritizing research into women's health. The order will direct $200 million into women's health across the government including comprehensive studies of menopause health by the Department of Defense and new outreach by the Indian Health Service to better meet the needs of American Indian and Alaska Native Women. This comes on top of $100 million secured by First Lady Jill Biden from ARPA-H.

Democratic Senators Bob Casey, Tammy Baldwin, Sherrod Brown, and Jacky Rosen (all up for re-election) along with Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, and Sheldon Whitehouse, introduced the "Shrinkflation Prevention Act" The Bill seeks to stop the practice of companies charging the same amount for products that have been subtly shrunk so consumers pay more for less.

The Department of Transportation will invest $45 million in projects that improve Bicyclist and Pedestrian Connectivity and Safety

The EPA will spend $77 Million to put 180 electric school buses onto the streets of New York City This is part of New York's goal to transition its whole school bus fleet to electric by 2035.

The Senate confirmed President Biden's nomination of Nicole Berner to the Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Berner has served as the general counsel for America's largest union, SEIU, since 2017 and worked in their legal department since 2006. On behalf of SEIU she's worked on cases supporting the Affordable Care Act, DACA, and against the Defense of Marriage act and was part of the Fight for 15. Before working at SEIU she was a staff attorney at Planned Parenthood. Berner's name was listed by the liberal group Demand Justice as someone they'd like to see on the Supreme Court. Berner becomes one of just 5 LGBT federal appeals court judges, 3 appointed by Biden. The Senate also confirmed Edward Kiel and Eumi Lee to be district judges in New Jersey and Northern California respectively, bring the number of federal judges appointed by Biden to 188.

In the Wukongverse what is Wukong's and Macaque's singing voice like?

Oh I do Love me some singing hcs. Took me a while cus I bad at actually remembering singers. I'm just trying to add as many song links as possible.

LMK: These two's english VAs (Sean Schemmel & Alejandro Saab) have sung before, and I will repeat my thoughts. Whilst Macaque is the more "stage friendly" of the two and can interact with an audience and put on a show, Wukong is stupidly good at singing. Like, LMK!Mac is dumbfounded how good his Wukong is. Wukong's stage fright gets to him tho, so his voice cracks the second he detects anyone listening to him - only Mac, the kids, and baby monkeys know his true voice. He destroys everyone at drunk karaoke tho.

HeroIsBack: SWK's singing voice is initally very harsh (not use much in 500 years) but grows softer/more confident as he sings. I can almost hear it as being like the song in the film itself "The Feeling of Flying", just full of joy. Also dubbing bonus; Jackie Chan singing the Cantonese version of "I'll Make A Man Out of You" from Mulan (1998). HeroIsBack!LEM's voice is similarly underused but a hidden gem. Mostly reserved for lulling infant monkeys to sleep. A tenor like Thomas Sanders. Gets embarassed quickly because his singing voice "doesn't match his face" (Dasheng disagrees).

Reborn: You could say his warped view of his own demonic identiy hasn't exactly left Reborn!SWK a positive idea of his singing ability. His actual singing voice is surprisingly deep with a lot of octave range; example Jonathan Young. 100% would jam with anime opening songs. Secretly gets really excited when he duets. Reborn!LEM is much less confident in their performing ability than the other LEMs, his voice is much softer, quieter, and soprano-pitch. Ethereal almost; like Ben Whishaw in The Tempest. And this LEM might just sing "Ariel's Song/Full Fathom Five" too - since his six ears often "hear "pick up" songs of the future. May use his voice to guide the lost souls he chariots.

Netflix: This SWK do be singing, and he penned his own theme song! Hidden talent at composing? I hc that he's singing voice is the metal version of his theme as done by Voodoo Kung Fu & Ian Honeyman. Probably scares the other monkeys (sans Reborn!SWK who starts rocking) the first time they let him take the mic and he goes full heavy metal on them. Has a hidden softer tune only his pilgrims + LEM know about. Netflix!LEM would say that they'd rather eat glass than sing in public, but like their main inspo (Aubrey Plaza - "Get Happy") they are ridiculously good at swing/jazz style music where the singer interacts with/insults their audience. A good example of them singing (whether for a con/trick) would be Amber Gray in Hadestown.

NewGods: This SWK sounds like a smooth cruise /lounge singer. This man can bust out a Sinatra that'll make the room shake. He however can get really emotionally into the music and end up crying at the oddest songs. Good reference would be Richard Cheese. NewGods!LEM gots broadway vocals like Josh Groban, and will completely shred you with his Phantom of the Opera performance. Unless he decides to use his voice for mischief and starts singing filthy blues songs with his SWK.

2000sCartoon: I bet these two dont really flex their singing muscles much so they dont sound "good", but SWK loves him some travelling songs and shanties, and his LEM provides good backing. SWK has a crackly, higher pitched singing voice like George Salazar (Be More Chill + Percy Jackson Musical). 2000sCartoon!LEM's voice I can see being smoother like Ashe (of "to ashes" on youtube), and once he becomes more confident in himself; its one of the first clear distinctions the two monkeys can make between one another.

Meihouwang: I could see Shihou & Mihou having "younger-sounding" singing voices similar to Zach Callison (of Steven Universe fame), and Jeremy Jordan (Tangled Series + Death Note Musical) respectively. Absurdly good for monkeys with no formal musical training.

Smash Legends: This Wukong has a pretty good singing voice but he uses it for goofy "meme" songs (ex Loney Island) since he's actually a little mic shy. Has potiential for greatness. "Serious" singing voice is similar to Sam Tsui. Smash!LEM aka SixEars is a legit indie music star along the lines of a "faceless" nearly-online-exclusive artist - best comparasion I can give for his "typical" vocal ranges (remember perfect mimicry/pitch) is between Aly & AJ to Taron Egerton. Will leave the other monkeys in the dust in a competition.

No matter who's the "better" singer of all of them one thing is for certain; you turn on that karaoke machine around the SWKs and LEMs, and there's about to be a whole lot of monkey business.

What are some other media/characters that inspired your main characters?

Mod Caide: This may be a bit surprising, but the original version of Jackie (from that cancelled project I mentioned in a previous answer) was actually partially inspired by Luffy One Piece. They do share some traits—they're both very bold and straightforward—but in almost all other aspects, they're almost complete opposites.

This was intentional; part of the original idea with that version of Jackie was for them to be the anti-Luffy. Luffy is a dumb stupid idiot who's guided by fate; Jackie is a methodical, intelligent person who actively defies fate. Luffy isn't bound by morality (he's rude and commits petty crimes like theft), and yet he almost never kills; Jackie has a very strong moral compass, yet they're more than willing to kill if they deem it necessary.

Mod Tag: While most of Sam was just finding an idea and running with it, there were a few characters that inspired his personality/appearance: Firstly, Samwise from the Lord of the Rings was an initial feel for how he interacts with others and some personality traits. I grew up reading and watching (and rewatching) a lot of Tolkien media as a kid, so this character definitely gave me an idea of how I wanted Sam to grow and develop in this story. Some other inspirations came later after the project started, with Will Byers (Stranger Things) and Viktor (Arcane). Typically, Sam fits into the caregiver/innovator archetypes, so these characters all also inspire his story and personality.

Mod Trilo: Honestly, it's been so long since I first wrote Helena that I can't say for sure! I have no doubt that she was inspired by the media I loved back then, though. I'm definitely able to look at her now and draw parallels to other characters (including ones that didn't exist back then)!

She's definitely in the same family as some of those loveable himbo types. She'd get along well with the likes of, say, Roman from Sanders Sides or Laios from Dungeon Meshi.

Roman probably was an actual inspiration for her at the time. Also, like all my characters, she's based on me as well. (Note from Caide: based)

Mod Kj: At the time I made Strade, Vander from the tv show Arcane was a big inspiration for his character, especially his softer side. When I was younger I definitely leaned into the edgy characters to be inspired by. Though since then I've learned to embrace that not every character has to be a homicidal maniac.

When he's comfortable, Strade is much sillier than how he was originally written. Kevin from Shameless is a good example of the kind of cluelessness and humor that Strade has.
