I hope James Somerton is alive and looked after. Being a plagiarist does not make you deserve death by suicide. There can be redemption for James. There can be a life for James. Just not on YouTube. I hope he realises that.

I also hope Hbomb has people to support him. All he did was make a thorough video about plagiarism and its consequences. He wasn’t mean. He wasn’t unfair. He wasn’t harassing. He explicitly condemned harassing James. Harry did his job, and did it with as much due diligence and empathy as he could. I hope people jumping to blame him realise that. The worst things said about James were not said by Harry, not by a long shot. Hbomb is not responsible for people who do exactly the opposite of what he supported.

Also, I hope that the people blaming Harry understand that this might be what James wants. If you don’t have any hope left, you might just settle for revenge. Plenty of people make their last (public) act a spiteful one. This is why blame is not helpful. Whether James genuinely does something or not, blame further exacerbates the situation.

I just hope James hasn’t done anything irrevocable. Even if you can’t find it within yourself to have sympathy for him, imagine what his suicide could do to Hbomb, Jessie Gender, Dan Olson, Todd in the Shadows or ex-Patreons who voiced their disdain.

It’s a horrific possibility and we should all pray it does not happen.

It's so telling how the people with experience in relationships with emotional abusers who threaten suicide as a manipulation tactic (including me) knew from the word go that James is lying & it's a ploy, but some people still found it apt to dickride him and call us, who called bullshit immediately, heartless monsters for not falling for another of his ruses

James Somerton, a youtuber who recently has been under heavy criticism for plagerism, has released a post on his private Twitter account that appears to be a suicide note. There are posts by other accounts saying they are attempting to contact the local authorities to do a wellness check. Whether or Somerton has passed away or any information about his current physical well-being is unknown.

The reason I have brought this up is because there are guidelines that should be followed when discussing suicide on social media. The American Foundation for suicide prevention recommend these guidelines from Orygen for discussing suicide. I have the full sources linked, but I have also provided images of what I believe is the most relevant section to this situation.

I am sincerely hoping for the saftey of James Somerton. As it states in the guidelines above, suicide is complex, and many factors contribute to someone ending their life. If you or someone you know is struggling, here are some resources. Recovery is possible for everyone. Regardless of what someone has done or has had done to them, it's a beautiful world, and no one should have to miss it.

James somerton has earned no benefit of the doubt nor has he earned the compassion he is getting from people. The man has a history of faking mental health crises when called out for lying, plagiarism, misinformation, and siccing his fans onto people who rightfully call him out.

The Redditors got into a frenzy trying to do a wellness check on him too. And not to act like a sociopathic cunt, but this sounds like another shitty fake ploy for attention & sympathy and trying to make Harry & Todd & the rest calling him out look like they're at fault for him getting harmed. Just like him previously crying harassment when people tried to put an end to plagiarism & misinformation he spreads, then sic'ing his fans onto them. my issue with james is not personal it’s truly just the fact that when you are presenting information (ESPECIALLY information about the lgbt+ community where a lot of our older community is lost and our history is hard to find) plagiarism genuinely destroys a reputation, there is no reason people should put their trust into you. and there is only one chance for you to build a strong reputation as a trusted source

He couldn't have possibly have gotten that idea from a certain manhwa he read and did a video on? Hm...

Too bad we'll probably never see this movie. I am so hyped for the scene where the couple looks dead into the camera and talks about how women aren't sophisticated enough to know a fucked up relationship when they see one.

While this proposal isn't identical to to the manhwa in question, I don't think Somerton would've been able to add anything to the concept other than misogyny.

I finally got around to Hbomberguy's video. So Somerton had already cancelled a project called "The Final Girl." This was a bit sus because he had a book called The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix on one of his year-end best of lists. Sure, I don't think that Hendrix invented the concept of "final girls," but again, I don't think Somerton would've been able to add anything unique. Except misogyny, of course.
