I hate it whenever in a story- another character has to push character 1 and character 2 together- because they say theyre being oblivious. when in reality its just a bad ship and the writer couldnt find a way for them to come together.

okay! heres more drawtectives star trek au thoughts bc i have a lot of thoughts :)

so all of this would take place in the lower decks era (2381), with jancy as the captain of officers rose, grendan, and york, and science expert eugene! also rosé, grendan, and york went to starfleet academy together bc thats fun

rosé is still a human, she's from tycho city bc its always funny to me when a star trek character is from the moon. she's a pilot and she learned to fly shuttles and runabouts at a young age. karina's hinted at there being some Dramatic Things in rosé's past so i briefly thought maybe she'd been recruited to section 31,, but then i thought maybe thats too much? so instead her Dramatic Thing could be that she had a conflict with a previous commanding officer that led to her being transferred off the ship. her off duty style would be very christine chapel or erica ortegas in snw vibes, she has so many chelsea boots its crazy

grendan is bajoran bc that just makes sense to me <3 their parents were in the bajoran militia so they lived on ds9 for a while and got interested in starfleet there! shes a science officer and specializes in exobiology (the star trek equivalent of walking dogs) his style is mostly earth tones plus science blues and soo many crochet vests and sweaters

york! klingon lore works really well with orc lore imo but he had to be green so! his dad is a klingon warrior and his mom is an orion starfleet officer, and york grew up with his dad on qo'nos before coming to earth to live with his mom and eventually join starfleet :) oh also since klingons mature faster than humans but i wanted him to be around the same age as grendan i just subtracted 8 years from what his human age would be, so he's technically the youngest of the star trek drawtectives but not by klingon standards?

eugene <3 i just think all the vulcan spirituality and katra and telepathy makes soo much sense for him! and i think he was with the vulcan science academy but then got really into studying the afterlife with holograms & androids so he left the academy to do his own research

i dont have a lot thought out for jancy yet but she's a betazoid bc i think telepathic jancy is neat :) and she was a diplomat before entering starfleet where she studied anthropology (and mystery solving)

Disability Showdown Full Bracket

Alright! No more mystery, we've got our list for the tournament!

For people new to this tournament, how this works is this: We narrowed our character list down from about 600 to 131 (it was gonna be 128 but we had three ties, so those have been reworked into three-character polls). The top 64 have been seeded into the bracket by number of nominations. The bottom 67 however, all got roughly the same amount of nominations, so those have been assigned places via random number generator, to remove any bias that I the poll runner may have about which characters I want to succeed

(I am so sorry if your obscure blorbo ends up against a super popular kid in round one, that's unfortunately the luck of the draw here, but I am keeping a record of characters that lose but whose fans fight the hardest for them, and we may do something with those kids later, so it's still worth campaigning for your faves!)

I will make an image for the bracket once we get past the first round or two, but right now I have no idea how to make a visual bracket containing 131 characters, upload it to tumblr, and still have it be at all useful

There's just something about this scene that gets you so hooked up. I mean, of course I've lost count of how many times I've seen this scene alone but whenever I'm on the episode, I can't help but rewind it millions of times over and over again.

Recently, I tried to figure out why I do that, I mean the other ones I rewind do have a reason, for example the Jancy farewell scene, it hits hard with a rollercoaster of emotions or the scene where Steve tells Nancy that she's always been in his dream because it's not everyday you get to see your ex who's now one of your great friends confess how much he loves you, right?

But about this scene, there's something more special. Look at how her eyes glare up and her nose scrunches up, because of the hatred she has towards Vecna, the determination to kill him is unmatchable. He took away her best friend from her, turned her life upside down (literally), almost snatched her life away from her, made her go from a princess to a warrior in the most horrific way possible, is still threatening her friends and of course,showed the most gruesome image of her family

is it safe to say you're not a Steve fan? please don't take this as a criticism, just genuinely wondering. because like most people who ship Jancy, I don't mind Steve, although if he was written off the show, I don't think I'd care too much. but I get the feeling you'd rather he _was_ written off the show?

Yes, I think ST as a whole would be much better off if they'd written Steve out in s2. The Duffers said (in that Beyond Stranger Things aftershow that Netflix made after s2 dropped) that they didn't know what to do with him after his relationship with Nancy ended but they didn't want to leave him on the down note of being dumped, so they randomly threw him together with Dustin and struck (meme) gold. Like I've said before, when you don't know what to do with a character anymore because he's served his role in the story, that's when you write him out my guys. That was the start of the mom Steve meme which got huge and the Duffers, caring waaaaay too much about audience reception, got too focused on catering to Steve and the memes than anything else. That led to the memetastic Scoops Troop taking *WAY* too much screentime in s3 sidelining other characters (mainly Jonathan and Will but others too). And I think all the Steve memes made the Duffers too aware of the meme potential of the show in general which made them lean into creating more meme worthy material besides Steve, like Alexei in s3. Aside from Steve getting more screentime than pretty much all of the original main characters besides Eleven and the meme stuff taking over the show, ST has a huge problem with too many characters on the show and a lot of that is related to Steve as well. Billy was created bc they missed having a human villain after making Steve turn good. In s3 Robin was created to prop up Steve (and if Maya hadn't made a character decision to make Robin gay and the Duffers decided to go with it, she'd be Steve's love interest btw). In s4 Eddie was created as a blatant Steve stand in because they didn't want to kill off Steve because they love him too much.

Of course the problems with the show go way beyond Steve and he's not so much the cause as a big symptom of the problem: The Duffers bad writing. Their writing is very bad in many other ways too so it's not all about Steve, want to make that clear. The biggest problem is how they bloated the show making it too big both in terms of scale and locations and shoving way too many characters in it. Post s1 they've also had huuuge problem with pacing (due to the changing scale of the show). And in s2, which was a good season overall but one you can in retrospect point to and see issues that would grow with time like the Steve problem and underwriting characters, they made a really bad decision to make that weird standalone Warriors-spoof episode, it threw the pacing off completely and was just bad (btw I liked Kali as a character, I just wish they'd inserted her over multiple episodes throughout rather than one weird standalone epiode).

Sure it’s not clear exactly what the Q is, but he talks about how you haven’t just seen jancy on a date, and how he is a fan of Steve and his development and that you haven’t seen Nancy and Steve together since Steve has changed. And then he takes a break from jancy vs stancy discourse lol and says Jonathan and Steve should just get together (bc lbh he’s always been a jancy warrior and a stonathan one too)

2022 FIC YEAR IN REVIEW

Fandoms written in: number one for this was definitely stranger things, from the release of s4 on to even now still. then arcane for the beginning of this year, and marvel spread throughout the year, mostly 616. special mention to wednesday and warrior nun bcuz despite only getting into these at the end of the year, i’ve been really into them

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?: about as much as i expected given last year tbh

What’s your own favorite story of the year?: okay uhhh we got a few bcuz i cannot decide. from newest to oldest: it’s just a question, Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy, guess i ain’t the loving kind (explicit), darling, you’re so pretty it hurts (also explicit), Diluted, bonafide balcony scene, to be with you in hell, i just know you got to taste like candy, girl and Rose Garden Boy (was that one in last year’s?) to no one’s surprise, most of these are stranger things fic

Did you take any writing risks this year?: idk about risky always but for october this last year i had SO much stuff planned it was deranged & i got through it, so!

Do you have any fanfic goals for the new year?: just keep doing what i’m doing. femslash feb & whumptober (or another october writing thingy, we’ll see), again, but otherwise i’ll be chilling. finish my multichapter fics is also a goal, tho

Most popular story of the year?: Rainbow in the Dark, by far. which is fair, lol

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: ooo, again, a few. for piece by piece i wouldn’t exactly say “under-appreciated”, but it didn’t get as much attention as my other hellcheer stuff and it’s one of my faves i did for them. then Sunny Days bcuz the fandom is not only small, i also put a character into the universe who’s not in there canonically (well, she’s hinted at? she exists she just never appears? etc). from one to ten is i think one i put in here last year, too, but i finished it this year, and it’s my longest fic so far. Mare of Easttown is a small fandom, though

Most fun story to write: i remember having a lot of fun with nothing to see. other than that, just a lot of the hellcheer and gothbasket fics, really, especially these i mentioned under fave fics already

Most unintentionally telling story: idk how “unintentional” but and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die is pretty telling i think bcuz i am absolutely deranged over jason carver for no reason

Biggest disappointment: i cut like two fics i had planned from kinktober bcuz i very shortly discovered jancy week so i had to make room for that. not really that big of a disappointment but yknow something to lament a little

Biggest surprise: not specifically for my fics, but i was surprised by how popular hellcheer got. 2k fics on ao3 for a ship with two scenes lmao,,, was very very happy to be in that fandom, & will continue to be for a while longer :3
