At the end of the day the average civilian wishes to be catered to like an old money steel baron or perhaps one of those chaps from Downton Abbey. The entirety of modern society has come together to enable this, mass-producing cheap facsimiles of fortunes that should rightly either be built on child labor or perhaps serfdom.
Their lawns, taking up what could otherwise be used to grow crops or serve as "outdoor garage space," exist to ape the wide ranging estates meant for the nobility to chase down a fox while adorned in silly jackets. Their houses sport columns and stupid windows meant to imitate three different classical artforms at the same time because of something called "economies of scale." They even have male-centric social clubs meant for parlour games, discussing sports, and dining with friends, in this case franchised out under such names as "Buffalo Wild Wings."
This aping of the upper class continues to the hire of "artisans" to do relatively simple work deemed too complicated to warrant the time of the average citizen. It's not that the jobs are too taxing for your average person, but rather that the market has crystallized around the desire to live like budget royalty. Therefore they take their wafer-thin computers to artisans (now more commonly called "experts" or "Apple geniuses") for repair and have democratized the position of carriagemen to 22 year old dealership lube techs named Ryan who will turn a 15 minute job into a 30 minute endeavor thanks to frequent vape breaks and a brief brush with what the industry refers to as "a misplaced drain bolt."
The mid-40s project manager and mother of 3 is no less competent when changing oil than her grandfather before her who knew what "Valve Lash" is, but what separates the two is a series of wars in the 1900s that required an entire generation of men to become very familiar with operating and repairing machines better than the Germans and Japanese (an exercise that Chrysler would later abandon in favor of the phrase "if you can't beat em, join em").
This conflict ended with a surge of able-bodied men finding themselves returning to their project management jobs (like their granddaughters after them) but armed with captured German weapons and a comprehensive understanding of tubochargers. Just as a line can be drawn from troop drawdowns to political violence, there's a distinct correlations between GIs returning home and the violence with which Ford Flathead V8s were torn apart by inventive supercharging methods paired with landspeed record attempts.
Give a man a racecar and he'll crash it on the salt flats in a day. Teach a man to repair a racecar and it will sit in the garage of his suburban house for a few years in between complete engine rebuilds required by what can only be described as "vaporized piston rods."
Of course this hotrodder generation created the circumstances we live in today, as the market saw their fast cars cobbled together from old prewar hulks and simply stamped out new ones from factory, faster and more convenient for the next generation than building one from scratch. Now the project manager mother of 3 drives a 4wd barge with climate controlled seats boasting more computing power than the moon mission and an emissions-controlled powertrain with more horsepower than her grandfather's jalopy and her fathers factory muscle car combined. And she doesn't care at all.
Yet Amongst the average civilians there walks a rare breed: people who know how to change their own oil. We the chosen move among you silently, bucking the system, operating outside the cultural helplessness and trading in forbidden knowledge in almost-abandoned forum threads (flame wars over conventional vs synthetic).
While we do have a marked air of superiority about this, I can't say I haven't stooped to imitating the rich myself. I've been known to wear a silly jacket from time to time.

50 years on: Isuzu Statesman de Ville by GMH, 1973. Making its debut 50 years ago at the 20th Tokyo Motor Show in October 1973. Isuzu's newly minted relationship with GM didn't just mean their cars and pick-ups being sold in Australia and the US. This was an attempt to give Isuzu a flagship luxury saloon for the lucrative government and diplomatic market in Japan. The cars were powered by Holden's 5 litre (308ci) V8 and were given fender mounted rear view mirrors to comply with Japanese regulations. They were heavily taxed for being imported and falling outside any tax breaks based on size and engine capacity thus only 246 were sold before the car was withdrawn from the Japanese market in 1974.

Hello, redeemed Adam AUs anon here! Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. Despite close friends telling me to watch FMA for years, I've never gotten around it so I didn't know about Scar. However it's obvious the writing is far superior, and I've watched Arslan Senki from the same author so I know we can trust her with antagonists.
You mentioned the authors having to acknowledge that the system is flawed in the first place, to which I nod eagerly! Except, the authors already acknowledged this!!!
In V4 E6, at the charity party, there's a businessman that's always forgotten, who mentions the real problem is society as a whole. Even worse, that the faunus were PROMISED JOBS by the SDC! So they were cruelly tricked! By the dialogue, Jacques says mining staff from Atlas and Mantle are paid the same, but the businessman points out that there's a significant economic disparity between the two. Obviously it was a good scene to portray and acknowledge the actual issue and how people of power in Atlas didn't care anyway. Good scene.
Except it was never brought up again!!!
I swear, every time you think CRWBY can't get worse, they prove you wrong. So you acknowledge society is at fault, Adam and Ilia's families were tricked into getting a job, and the SDC is very aware of the issue (including Weiss WHO WAS PRESENT), yet ADAM is at fault? Huh? Wha? HUH?!
I know V4 and V5 are known to be some of the worst volumes (dethroned by V8 and V9), but they had so much lore hidden in details that went forgotten two seconds later, they sometimes feel like a fever dream.
Thank you again for reading my ask and answering it! I read the response many times!
Long Post Ahead
You're welcome, anon! To be honest, having such a nice ask after so long was a refreshing surprise for me lol. I'm glad that my answer was satisfactory, and you really should get into FMA! (Based for reading Arslan Senki tho-).
I'm really impressed that you remembered that segment of V4, so I went back to rewatch it myself (in Japanese dub, I can only take Nora and Ruby's Eng voice for so long), and yeah! They DID acknowledged it! Which is why not having Weiss confronting the malpractice of her family's company in V7-8 was so frustrating! Not SHOWING MORE of the wealth disparity of Atlas and Mantle was so bad! We were stuck in a nothing arc where the only person making sense, Ironwood, was bastardized even though in the same episode in V4, he stood up for Weiss!
Ironwood understood that the system of Atlas was extremely flawed, and he ran himself ragged to make sure it gets reformed against an entire council who doesn't care! The guy who actually gave a fuck was made into a villain because the writers are incompetent, the child slave who was branded and disabled was killed off with NO ONE knowing about his abuse or even acknowledged after his death, and the two main characters (Weiss and Blake) fucks around in Atlas with people they do not like instead of at least going to a political rally to support a council candidate who wanted to do better for both human and Faunus!
Hell, Blake and Weiss never brought up the abuse that Faunus goes through in the SDC itself after V7C3, where all Weiss does was give Blake a luke warm apology about her family's sin. Hello?? DO SOMETHING THEN! ARRESTING YOUR SHITTY DAD WILL NOT CHANGE THE WAY FAUNUS WORKERS ARE TREATED, ALL YOU DID WAS CREATE A POWER VACUUM FOR PEOPLE WHO BACKED HIM UP TO TAKE CHARGE AND CONTINUE THE ABUSE!
The show can acknowledged the imbalance all it wants, if it doesn't take the fucking charge of challenging the system it's calling out with its characters, it means nothing. Adam and the Amitolas weren't the only ones tricked to work so that they can survive in a kingdom that hated them for existing, but our protagonists do nothing to prevent more like them from being exploited.
I also stated that the authors have to acknowledge this systematic abuse applies to fan creators. You can criticize Adam for his actions against innocents all you like, but the moral of the story is that he is still a victim and shouldn't be made into the scapegoat of anti-Faunus violence. Adam wasn't wrong to be angry or hateful, stop demonizing him for being rightfully bitter about being abused! Stop with the Perfect Victim shit, please!
V4-5 were bad because they had potential but the writers elected to be boring with them instead, at least those two had a point. V7-9 meant nothing, and that's why they're the worst of the show yet.
Thank you for your asks, anon!

do you have any good facts about gt3 cars or gt3 racing? currently foaming at the mouth for some of the cars in that class
I have a good fact about this ask! I viewed it and the notification went away and I completely forgot about it until I was brushing my teeth so here we are now!
One cool fact is the team that runs itasha liveries, Goodsmile Racing, which I mentioned in my post about itasha, which if you don't know is... well... this.
Tumblr media
As far as the rest goes, my knowledge of GT3 cars is shallow enough that anyone invested enough in them to ask will know all I do. But, on the off chance that you don't and to entertain the public:
This is a Ford GT.
Tumblr media
And while it's bigger than the 1960s racecar it's inspired by and by its mid-00s revival, it's really not that big! It's under 4.8 m (188 in) long and 1.1m (44 in) tall. That's about the length of a Camry and three quarters the height. Squish a Camry real hard, basically.
Tumblr media
This is a BMW M8. It's not that small. It's a whole 23cm (9in) taller than the GT. It's a touch narrower, but its race version is instead 18cm (7in) wider than the GT's.
This creates a rather striking difference in size when they are side by side, which, given they compete in the same class, often happens.
Tumblr media
Now, some Japanese exaggerated that size difference with image editing because he thought he was funny.
Tumblr media
He was.
This sparked a series of "Big M8" memes that got progressively more overboard.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"But aren't these GTE cars?", you may object.
And yes. They are. I just didn't know the difference when I started writing this post. So that's how much I know about GT3 cars.
I guess I could tell you some fun facts about the road cars they are based on - like that the first Audi R8...
Tumblr media
...was based on parts from both these cars!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While chassis and powertrain were heavily shared with the Gallardo due to Audi's Lamborghini ownership, the R8 also had a "base" V8 trim that used the engine from the RS4 (aka the Real Sporty version of the Audi A4 - of which by the way Father had and thoroughly loved the convertible, exquisitely competent car! Turbo issues aside I thoroughly recommend).
Links in blue are posts of mine explaining the words in question - if you liked this post, you might like those!

I’m a person of enormous self doubt.
I don’t even believe I love the things I love. Like Trigun. I’m reading manga so painfully slowly (I’ve started in April and has only gotten to V8 of Trimax) that I start to wonder: maybe I don’t even like it and just hype it up because Wolfwood looked super hot that one time in episode 4 of Tristamp.
Then I remember crying over Knives’ and Vash’s and Tesla’s backstory. The anguish I saw in the screen reflection. Or the shivers down my spine when the citizens of Home turned out to be dolls, when a tiny baby broke into pieces in Vash’s arms. Or the tenderness I feel rereading that “so you can smile” (side note: wtf is WW’ s speech pattern in Japanese? Is it a slang? Is it a dialect?). Or the way I can’t look away from the pain in Vash’s face, his tired eyes.
Guess I shouldn’t doubt the love - rather the stupid modern notion that everything interesting should be consumed in the shortest amount of time possible, that binging is the only way to get immersed in the story, that everyone enjoys things in the same way.
Yes, I was lured by the legendary status and the seductive fingers. But I stayed for a relatively simple yet surprisingly nuanced story and art style and for the characters that I just don’t want to see go.
Holy Milly. I don’t want to get to the couch and all that follows. No. No. Nooo.

Ford Mustang
Second Generation (1973-1978)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Iacocca, creator of the first Mustang, became president of the Ford Motor Company in 1979 and ordered that the new Mustang be smaller and more efficient. It was initially supposed to be based on the Ford Maverick, but was later made by the Ford Pinto.
The new model, called "Mustang II", was introduced on September 21, 1973, two months before the first oil crisis of 1973, and its small size allowed it to compete with Japanese imported sports coupes such as the Datsun 240Z and Toyota Celica. It was produced until 1978.
Tumblr media
At the end of 1973, coinciding with the energy crisis that occurred that year, the Mustang II was introduced, a car that was short-lived but which won Ford another award as car of the year . This model brought the Mustang back to the 1964 model in size, shape and overall styling. The car proved to be smaller than previous models as well as slower and heavier even though the company placed great emphasis on the quality of its finishing, which was defined as the highest ever made in the US automotive industry. Regarding dimensions, the Mustang II was 50 cm shorter, 10 cm narrower and 2.5 cm lower than the previous version.
The Mustang II was available in a 3-door hardtop body style. The basic version was equipped with a 2.3 liter (146 in3) inline four-cylinder engine with a single overhead camshaft. This engine was the first to be built using the metric system instead of the American measurement system. The 2.8-litre V6 (170in3), produced in Europe for the Capri, was available as an option. This meant that the V8 engine disappeared, albeit only for 1974, from the Mustang range. This absence was subject to several criticisms from fans of the car who wrote many letters to trade magazines.
Ford reintroduced the V8 engine with the 1975 model year but since the car was not designed to accommodate a similar engine it was necessary to proceed with a significant redesign of the vehicle. The basic model from which to create the Mustang II was the Ford Pinto. The engine chosen was the 4.9 liter (302in3) V8.
Tumblr media
In 1976 the special version Cobra II was launched. This car was inspired by the Shelby Mustang, and for this reason it was equipped with a large air intake on the hood, the Shelby emblem on the radiator grille, a rear spoiler and racing stripes in different shades. Only the appearance was sporty, as the engine was within the standards of the Mustang II.
In any case, the car was a good commercial success and 400,000 examples were produced in the first year. The success was due more than to the innovations introduced to the fact that this model was able to regain the affection of the public as had happened with the 1964 model.
Even the oil crisis, which practically eliminated the most powerful range of cars from the price lists of almost all car manufacturers, did not interrupt the success of the Mustang II.

The Chikamori Legacy
Chapter Two: "Escape" (Part IV)
Tumblr media
Over the next two days, River prepared.
Tumblr media
She knew that she had to travel light since ferries taking foot passengers would be limiting luggage and she didn’t want to weigh herself down with too much. So she packed stuff that was light for summer time, a bikini; she knew that she had the body for it, two changes of clothes, five panties, five pairs of socks, a light jacket for rain, and a pair of moccasin boots that could fold down quite handily to fit into a pocket in the backpack. She didn’t know how far of a distance that she would have to cover and made sure that she was wearing athletic shoes...and not fancy heels. She also put in a romantic slip...into her backpack too. It wasn’t too much of a weight that she wanted to forego feeling as if she was feminine and romantic. Perhaps if I can reconcile with Haruo she thought to herself.
Tumblr media
It was as she was shouldering her pack and stepping outside, that Ba-chan came out on the veranda and said, “River...come here...you walk to island? No...no...no...you take my car…maybe cheap...walk on...your feet end up hurt...take car...drive over...” Grandma had a big boat of a 70s car. It was a Pontiac GTO.
“Ba-chan, are you sure?” River was astounded as she walked up the stairs to the veranda to keep Yumiko from having to walk down the stairs.
Tumblr media
“Hmmm…” Grandmother Yumiko nodded. Man, this car was going to be hell on gas but River didn’t relish the idea of walking and was grateful for the generous offer. Grandma Yumiko put the keys in the palm of River’s hand and covered her hand with hers. “Go…find Haruo…” she stated; the trust in her eyes evident as she knew that River would take care of her car. “Key…garage…” she said pointing out the key to the garage so that River could take the vehicle. Fiona had made sure that River learned to drive earlier in the fall. River looked at Yumiko, frail but with a constitution of steel having gone through some of the toughest events of the 20th century. At 96 she was still here, still caring for those who relied on her wisdom. But like Haruo, River knew that she wouldn’t be here for much longer. She felt a pressing need to find Haruo, not only for her, but for Yumiko.
Tumblr media
“I love you, Ba-chan…” River enfolded the lady in a tender hug which was just as equally reciprocated by the little Japanese lady...then River made her way down the stairs, inserted the key in the garage door, and opened the garage to reveal the large vehicle.
Tumblr media
Putting her back pack in the back seat, River placed her purse in the shot-gun seat and settled herself behind the wheel. Turning the ignition, she could hear the low growl of the 302 4.9L V8. Pulling down the drive selector one notch into reverse, she eased the big car out of the garage.
Tumblr media
Checking the rear-view she eased into the road-way.
Tumblr media
She could see Yumiko waving at her. So she waved back then another two notches down on the lever to put the car into drive. And then she was on her way.
Haruo’s home, 20 Channel View Bluff, Cape Garner
Haruo had made himself at home, easing comfortably into a routine over the next four and a half months. It was July when he left the Lower Mainland.
Tumblr media
Breakfast was usually a plate of pancakes, followed by a glass of orange juice. Mornings were a relaxing time for Haruo since it took him a while to get going.
Tumblr media
He would then head out and hunt to put meat into the fridge. He’d become the terror of small animals on the island. But the alternative of getting chicken or beef at the grocery store at §8/100g was insane. Hunting for meat was a bit more economical. But eating lizard steaks was interesting on the palate. His hunting area wasn’t limited to the main island of Cape Garner either, he was able to have a quick ferry taxi to the other islands that were close to the main island and…
Tumblr media
…thus he was able to find a rather large porcini that he was going to use as a potential start to a small mushroom farm for personal use. After all nothing hit the stomach like a porcini risotto and if the haul was good, he could end up being able to sell the rest for simoleons.
Tumblr media
After getting back to the main-island, Haruo headed to the consignment shop to drop off his cut gemstones. In fact, he found out that the consigment shop was also the elixir shop. Since the hospital was clear on the other side of the island, for small ailments, an elixir shop was quite convenient.
Tumblr media
Heading home, Haruo enjoyed the Mercedes E-class’ handling ability as he drove the winding roads leading back to 20 Channel View Bluff. The roads weren’t treacherous, but you had to stay alert because the last thing you wanted was to miss an S-turn and end up planted into the trunk of a tree.
Tumblr media
When he got home, the enjoyment of owning a new home came with the denoument of receiving bills. Holy Watcher, geez...§6,118 simoleons in taxes??? Are they freakin’ kidding me? Oh well...ouch…
And...he’d be getting another one on Thursday. So that was the reason why the mansions on Cape Garner were unoccupied; most anyone with incomes under seven figures couldn’t afford them.
Tumblr media
He remembered he had a load of wash in the dryer and went to get it. After all, if laundry left in the washer could end up stinking pretty badly from mildew if forgotten about and he’d put a fresh load in this morning. So retrieval of the dried laundry and a transfer of the wet from the washer into the dryer. Otherwise, he’d have to buy fresh clothing and that was a particularly disgusting waste of money.
Looking out the back, Haruo gazed happily at his driving range set up that had come with the house he’d bought; two buckets of golf balls were permanently placed out there and he picked up a Number 1 wood driver leaning against the wall inside the house and gently swung it, it was well-weighted – he didn’t have a full set of golf clubs so he didn’t have anything else to test – maybe that was something else to get. One wasn’t about to be able to retrieve the balls from the channel between Cape Garner and Texada Island so this golf driving range was going to get pretty expensive if he was going to replace the balls. The water was pretty deep and US and Canadian submarines traversed that area quite frequently headed to and from Nanoose Bay test range both on the surface and submerged. But Haruo was keen on trying out his new driving range.
Tumblr media
“FORE!!!” he yelled to no-one in particular and belted a particularly long one off the rubber tee that curved nicely and ended up with a sploop in the channel. Thankfully he didn’t hit a sailboat that was going by at that particular moment...however the descending golf-ball that got hit into the channel continued its descent into the murky depths and...
Tumblr media
...eventually made contact with the USS Pennsylvania, an Ohio class that was training in coastal waters, plinking the side of the hull with a clank heard by the sonar operators. It didn’t dent the hull, the water had slowed its descent and speed to the point where it was going at a rate of speed that was even slower than if it rolled down a set of stairs.
“What the hell was that?” remarked the CO of the boat. “Jonesy...did you get anything on that clank.”
“Yes...sir. We just got hit.”
“By what!?”
“I wouldn’t go to battlestations, sir…”
“Why the hell not?”
“It wasn’t a dud mine, sir. We just got hit by a Titleist.” Jonesy remarked, “Evidently somebody up on the surface is using the Channel as a driving range. We can’t nuke him for that.”
“I don’t suppose we can, right, Jonesy, we don’t want to piss off the Canadians.” the CO chuckled, “They might demand we stop using their Nanoose Bay testing range to test our torpedoes and keep us from traversing the Inside Passage between Vancouver Island and their mainland. That would be a terrible loss…and I certainly don’t want a JAG inquiry as to why one of our specials got loose and took out this small island and half of Comox. There might be questions.”
Tumblr media
After about fifteen minutes of knocking golf balls into the channel and…
Tumblr media
…scaring the bejesus out of a few passing boaters seeing golf balls curving out of the driving range and sending up little splashes, Haruo was bored of that form of entertainment. He would have to go down to the local pro-shop and pick up a bag of used golf balls to refill the bucket which was down about half-way. One of the things that he wanted to do was to head down to the local bookstore and pick up a few skill books, He really wanted to improve his cooking and his gardening, but of course, it was winter and he really couldn’t plant anything. But perhaps the main thing was to figure out where he could put in a garden so that he could grow his own vegetables.
Tumblr media
There really was nothing much else to do other than go around the house and do a bit of cleaning and admire the expansive new house that he owned. He could only conjure a few rocks at a time and hope by chance that he got something valuable. Because conjuring took energy from him and even though he had a moodlet manager device, he didn’t want to use it if he didn’t have to, mainly because that device could zap him just as easily as it could cure his fatigue and he didn’t want a concussion after passing out because the device took every bit of energy out of him. But frankly, it was easier for the device to sense a cure and do the proper thing if he was completely, utterly falling-flat-on-his-face exhausted.
Tumblr media
So again, he opted to play the piano...and when he got bored of that, he turned on the stereo, dropped in a compact disc and sang along to that. One of his favorite CDs to sing along to was the Messiah by Georg Frideric Handel mainly because there was always a few nice tenor airs to sing.
Tumblr media
As he was washing dishes, he sang, “Comfort ye...Cooooooooomfort ye...my pe-e-ople… Saith your God…saith yo-oo-oour God. Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem...speak ye comfortably to-ooo Jerusalem...And cry u-u-unto her...that her wa-a-rfare...her wa-a-arfare is accomplished...that her iniquity is pardon’d. That her ini-iquity is pa-ardon’d.” Haruo had a moment of reflection as a plausible thought crossed his mind: Maybe I should get my degree. UVic (University of Victoria) does have a decent music program. Classical music had always been a refuge for Haruo...as equally a refuge as the gym where he would work out his frustrations with his mother’s overbearing behavior towards him. If he was angry, he’d go to the gym and his physique represented that frustration. He was now absolutely ripped and part of that was that he wanted to intimidate those who weren’t close to him mainly because he didn’t want those who weren’t close to him to become close to him since the more people in his inner circle, the less he could trust them. Hence there was only about four to six of them that he e-mailed on a regular basis.
Tumblr media
Thanks to AOL (America On-Line even though he was Canadian). This being 1989, it was an interesting procedure to get online in any form – (AN: it was mostly through online bulletin boards back then – known as online graphical chat environments – much like a text form of Second Life for those who aren’t familiar). Haruo’s friend Noel, was quite the computer genius so he set up an online BBS that would allow his friends to talk to him on the computer. And that was all done in BASIC since Windows 1.0 and 2.0 operated in BASIC, there were rumors that Bill Gates was working on a Windows 3.0 that was going to have cool graphic windows and things like clickable icons. Haruo’s computer cost nearly §8,950.00 this year (1989) and all he could do with it was write stuff on Word for Windows and that particular program cost him nearly §500.00. That was an eye-opener. Most people were still using typewriters. But Haruo had money and he wanted the latest tech so he bought himself a computer; his wallet smarting at the impact and he also bought Word for Windows and nearly had a heart-attack at the cost. But what else could he do, everything was going computers at the time and what other options were there.
Tumblr media
Anyhow, spending time on the computer playing games like the offering of SimCity by Will Wright from Maxis was enjoyable at any rate and Haruo was happily spending his time engrossed in building up his city. Though of course his stomach pretty much told him that was probably not going to be an option once he got to the point where it was about to eat his interior lining. So he sighed, saved his game and headed downstairs to make dinner.
Tumblr media
He decided to make some goopy carbonara. It was cheap and it was filling. That’s all that mattered. Maybe tomorrow he might make some grilled cheese instead. He made 8 servings and…
Tumblr media
…stuck the left-overs in the fridge. Considering the price of the house, it was an advanced fridge and the food wouldn’t spoil as quickly so at least there was that – it meant he had food for several days, at least until he got sick of goopy carbonara and decided to make something else. Haruo also was wanting to make certain that he learned how to cook well. Being able to do so would enable him to eat well…and that was something he enjoyed.
Tumblr media
After eating dinner, he headed out to the bookstore and picked up the book for Cooking Skill Volume 2. That way he would have something to read before bed. And he would conjure at least a little bit so that he could have at least another gemstone to cut in the morning that he could take with him over to Aleister’s.
Tumblr media
He gazed out the window as the shadows lengthened and the purple of late evening gave way to the darkness of night. He conjured a gemstone, took a shower and went to bed.
