Odysseus used his love for Penelope to get through the war and it became this self-destructive, desperate thing that is stronger than his desire for anything else.

When Zeus takes him to the nursery, he gives him a choice. The infant or Penelope. Odysseus, who had been nothing but confident until now, begs Zeus to take this from him, to allow the child to live, to take him instead. Zeus denies him for no reason other than the gods' enjoyment.

Odysseus cannot let Penelope die. He begs the child to understand something that even the gods can't. He begs for forgiveness from the son of his enemy as he sleeps in his cradle. The child cannot give it to him as Odysseus holds the boy like he held his own son, and Odysseus is forever tainted as he kisses the child's forehead and throws him off the wall.

He tries to be merciful, something he didn't get, and tries to greet the world with open arms. Not for himself and not for Polites but for Penelope. He wants to come home as a better husband, a better father, but every time he tries, it only gets worse until he is face to face with Poseidon.

He begs Poseidon for forgiveness as well, but Poseidon denies him and slaughters all but 43 of his men.

He travels to the underworld where the prophet tells him that he won't make it home like this but Odysseus is in too deep. He can't stop or he'll drown in his mistakes. He begs the dead for forgiveness, forgiveness for what he has done and for what he will do. Begs them to understand what the gods cannot. They, like the infant, cannot give him what he asks for. He sacrifices himself on the bank, deciding that if he cannot make it home a better man then he will make it home a worse one but he has to make it home.

When Zeus comes down from the sky on the island and gives him the same choice he gave him in Troy, it's no competition. His crew or Odysseus, the infant or Penelope, the infant or Odysseus, the crew...

Or Penelope.

And he begs. He begs just like he did back then. He begs to not have a choice, for this to be taken from him, begs the gods for mercy. And, like always, he is denied.

He looks at Eurylochus and says, "I have to see her." He is in tears, begging Eurylochus to have learned from Odysseus the way he had learned from Polites. Begging Eurylochus to know how to see things from a monster's perspective. And again, begging for forgiveness.

Eurylochus says, "but we'll die." Eurylochus who has brought Zeus from Olympus, denies him as well.

Odysseus, Merciful Odysseus who has faced down merciless gods and monsters and sorcerers time and time again, who has sacrificed everything for this, who would have gone to any length to save those he loved, has no mercy left to give.

All he can say is, "I know." Because there is no other option. He has to see her. He has sacrificed more on the altar of Penelope than he has to any god. He has brought the lives of 558 men, the body of an infant, Polites, Eurylochus. He has laid himself across the altar and carved his own heart out. Blood spills in rivers down it's pristine surface and still, it is not enough. It will never be enough and it all means nothing if he doesn't get to go home.

HI SO ive commented on this in the past (@whumpawink here lol) but i thought I’d ask if you have any comment on the apparent sexual tension between Jay and Zayne?

I’m fuckin obsessed with their dynamic and I think the energy adds nothing but AMAZINGNESS to their relationship somehow lmao. Like i don’t really understand what it is but it just makes the whump so much more delicious for me lmao. I think it’s like how comfortable Zayne is with it and just uses it to fuck with Jay and how constantly compromised and flustered Jay is with everything all the time fjfkgkgk

Everything Zayne does is to freak Jay out :) It's a game to him. He is a bit of a natural charmer, Jay's kinda ace. The first visits where he noticed Jay recoiling from him when he encroached his bubble, he wanted to test it out further with little touches. He likes how flustered Jay gets.

But it also makes him feel in control.

He does intimate whumper stuff, but I can't really call him that because he doesn't do it because he wants to be intimate. It's just his way to fuck with Jay. And getting up in his face is good intimidation.

Also, he just doesn't give a shit. He's very comfortable with sharing a bed, sitting on top of Jay, pretending to be gay, or just gentle touches. Probably right because there's no meaning behind it for him.

Jay knows this by now but he still doesn't like getting touched like that. And also because it's usually a prelude to pain, small touches promising not so gentle things to come. .

"Did you steal that?" was the first thing Mira asked when Daniel came into the cafeteria.

Well, not exactly came, more like rolled into his shopping cart holding Jay Titanic-style. Pushing the cart was an overly-eager Vasco and following them was a procession made up of BNC members, one of which was holding a large speaker over his shoulder.

"Every night in my dreams

I see you, I feel you,

That is how I know you go on

Far across the distance

And spaces between us

You have come to show you go on~"

Zack bristled with rage when his girlfriend-AhEm! I mean Mira was ignored by all of them in favor of rolling near the food counter. He marched right up to where Daniel was half-crouching awkwardly, trying to balance two food trays without letting go of Jay's waist or getting down from the shopping cart, and smacked him loudly over the back of the head. He stumbled and fell over the counter, bringing his blonde down with him. The pair ended up sprawled over one another in an undignified heap on the floor, although, amazingly, the trays landed perfectly onto the counter without spilling even a single drop.

Later Danny would account this to his eternal amazingness and furiously deny that it had anything to do with sheer dumb luck whatsoever. For now, he just lay beneath his sweet Jay in the most inelegant way humanly possible, simultaneously trying to get up and not push the other boy off him.

"Zack, look what you did!" Vasco scolded the perpetually annoyed male while hauling himself over the counter with ease.

He leaned over the two checking for any injuries. Satisfied with his founding he gave them both what was supposed to be a reassuring smile before reaching and plucking the off the ground. He held them up in the air by the backs of their collars, and Danny finally discovered what it was like to be held like a misbehaving cat. Safe to say, he did not enjoy being literally thrown over the counter, though he forgave his newest minion for carefully reaching over and landing Jay over the counter safely.

"Good job minions!" He proclaimed loudly getting up and brushing the dirt off his clothes.

After careful consideration, he chose to hold his beloved instead of the trays, which he entrusted one of his minions to deliver to their table. Then he climbed back into the cart and readjusted their position back as it was supposed to be.

"Onwards!" He exclaimed pointing towards the assigned 'BNC and crazy cult leader gremlin + occasionally the man who is crazy brave enough to date him' table.

They resumed their journey without anyone in the cafeteria batting an eyelid. This was normal.

"Near, far, wherever you are

Hello everyone. Wow, this blog is still alive? Well, not to worry!

After a very long break due to a very hectic school year caused by a very hectic situation, with lots of events in between which resulted in a reunion and meeting new friends, thankfully we should be back on updating.

And you might notice that there's been a change in the way the page is colored. Remember the part where I met new friends? My friend, Jay, is now joining the making of this comic as the coloring artist! He's an amazing artist by his own right and go show him some love by following his Twitter and Instagram!

Hopefully, with Jay's amazingness both as an artist and a person, more updates will come in the future shortly!

New Fic!! Get it while it’s hot!

Core four, complicated polyamory. Warnings for underage drinking, referenced child abuse, general sad backstory. This chapter is mostly fun things though, I swear!

“You know how, like, you had those dumb games you played as kids?” Ben asks, letting his head fall on Evie’s shoulder. It’s dark out, and there’s not many people sitting in this particular corner, so they’re fine to be sitting together like this. Couple-like, even though they aren’t, not really. Couple-adjacent. Dating once removed, maybe. Evie doesn’t really like boys, even though she cares about some of them a whole lot. Spiderweb-dating is what Mal has been calling it, where they’re all in the same web but not necessarily  sharing the same strands.

It’s a pretty weird looking web when you plot it out, but it’s the best they’ve got so far. Evie and Ben might not be a couple in the strictest sense, but they’re close, and they’re definitely something that feels more intense than just ordinary friendship, so.

Evie reaches around Ben’s shoulder to pet a hand through his hair. It’s a little sticky. Gross.  “Yeah.” she says. “What about them?”

Ben leans into the touch. “What if we just all started playing games again.” he says, dreamily. “Like. We could do that!”

Evie gives him a pat, and reaches over to pry the bottle out of his hand. “I think you’ve had enough of this.” she says, unwrapping his fingers from around the neck. “Come on--”

Ben clings, but he’s laughing, and it’s not bad. He’s pink-cheeked and cute, flushed with it.

“Come on, give it up!” Evie says, shaking the bottle a bit as she slides it away and captures her prize. It wasn’t a very strong drink to begin with, because most of the current junior class are only casual drinkers and won’t bring anything really good to campus, but it’s a bit emptier than it probably should be for this point in the night.

Ben is sliding down Evie’s shoulder. “I like feeling fuzzy.” he tells Evie’s collarbone, where his face has ended up. “It’s nice.”

Oh, this sweet boy. “I know, babe,” Evie says, letting her sweet drunk boyfriend-adjacent-person flop over completely into her lap. “But you’re not going to like it if you keep going.”

Ben sighs when Evie’s hand finds its way into his hair again. “You don’t have to babysit me, you know,” he tells the leaves of the trees they’re hiding under, in their little dark corner away from the fire. “I’m not that drunk.”

Evie scratches gently at his scalp with her nails, and Ben practically melts. “You’re a little bit drunk.” she says, amused.

Ben shivers. “A little.” he admits. “Feels nice to not have everything be-- so much. It’s always just a lot, and now it’s not so much anymore. And I’m like, kinda spinny?”

Evie laughs, but doesn’t stop scratching. “Yeah?” she asks, going along with it.

Ben sighs, and tips his head so that he can rest his cheek on Evie’s leg. “It’s just nice. Different. I like it. Like being dizzy, only it’s fun.”

“I can see that.” Evie says, swirling the rest of the bottle around and around until the deep gold liquid makes a little whirlpool at the bottom. “You like this stuff, huh?”

“Doesn’t taste bad, yeah. Wine tastes so bad, Eves.”

Evie takes a swig from the bottle. “I know. You have a little baby taste in drinks, and that’s okay.”

It’s only another swallow or two before the bottle is empty, and can sit safely on the ground without risk of spilling all over. Evie likes these shoes. They’re red suede booties, and she’s spent the past few days sewing a black and red silk into the lining so that it shows when she turns the tops down. She has put too much effort into these shoes for them to be ruined by spilling a drink on them during their debut party, so it only makes sense for her to finish it off before anything untoward can happen.

Ben pouts. “I’ll leave if you’re mean to me.” he says, without moving. “I’ll find someone else to sit with who won’t be mean.”

“Who are you gonna find, babe?” Evie asks sweetly, ruffling his bangs back into place and giving one cute little flushed cheeks a pat. If she liked boys she would be eating this one right up, that’s for sure.

Ben presses his face into the touch. “Uh. Someone who isn’t mean to me?”

Evie has to laugh. “And who do you think that’s gonna be?” she asks “Mal?”

“Uh, no. You could just be nice instead?” Ben offers, like it’s a great idea for everything in the world to be nice to him just because he asks..

Well. It’s been working out pretty well so far.

“You’re too sweet.” Evie tells him. He is, and it’s almost a problem except for how it keeps working out for him. It breaks Evie’s heart sometimes to think about what could have been, if here were there or there were here and their lives had gone just a little bit differently up to this point. They might never have met, sure. That would be a fuckin’ tragedy, but her crew could also have had the chance to grow up as sweet as the boy in her lap right now, and wouldn’t that be something. “Were you telling me something about games?”she asks instead.

Ben perks up. “Oh, right!” he says, with a little excited gesture. A spread of his hands, for proper royal emphasis. He’s so physical, this sweet boy. “Yeah. Like. Remember when we could just hang out and play like, spoons all the time? And like, tag and stuff?”

Evie can’t imagine that the games of her childhood, the ones she can remember hearing about and seeing in the schoolyard from before and after her banishment, are going to be the same ones that Ben is remembering.

“We had tag, yeah.” she says gently. “I don’t know spoons.”

Ben sits up at that, like it’s so critically important that Evie understands the amazingness of this childhood game that he can’t even explain it sprawled out over her lap.

“It’s a card game,” he says seriously. “S’fun. You take sets-- like, the leader takes a card and it goes around until you get a set and then you grab a spoon and everyone grabs a spoon and there’s one man out--”

Oh. Actually.

“You mean daggers?” Evie says. “That sounds like daggers.”

“Do I?” Ben asks, alarmed. “I don’t think that would be safe.”

Evie has to laugh. “Oh, it wasn’t. We used to play this game, it sounds like the same thing, where you would pass cards around until you got a set of four, and then when you got a set you took one of the knives in the center, and the last person who didn’t get one was out.”

“Sounds the same, yeah.”

“We used to play it for keeps, too.” Evie tells him, remembering. “The first person to grab a knife for the round would get to keep it, and we would keep going down that way until we were out of players or fingers or both.”

“Fingers?”

“Oh, no, I’m teasing!” Evie says, reassuring. She’s pretty sure that Jay and Mal both still have scars from the game, but they never lost any fingers, strictly speaking. It was usually the losers they had to watch out for anyway, rather than the game itself. Not that she’s going to tell Ben that. “Nobody really lost any fingers. We had some near-misses, that’s all. Everyone has all of their fingers, look,” She wiggles them in front of his face. “All here, see?”

Ben blows a warm breath over Evie’s hand.  “I’m sorry. I didn’t think--”

He stops.

“What?” Evie asks. “You can ask, it’s okay.”

Ben shakes his head, then stops rather abruptly. “It’s not about that. I just-- didn’t think I was this buzzy.”

Ah. That makes sense, then. Their boy isn’t usually a fan of giving up control, even if it’s just over his own tongue. “You’re feeling it now, huh,” Evie says sympathetically. It’s always odd, the moment when you realize that you’re actually drunk now, and not just a bit warm in the face. “Do you want to come find Mal with me?”

Ben perks up almost immediately. “Is she still here?” he asks, excitement just bleeding off of him.

Evie laughs. “Oh, you are too cute. Yes, she’s around here somewhere. I made her promise to tell me when she’s leaving, so she’d better not have snuck out on us.”

Ben is already halfway up, kneeling with his feet half-under him as he scans the crowd of students milling around between the bonfire and the beach. “Is she by the fire, there?” he says, pointing.

Evie squints. Mal hates people, usually, but she does like fire, so-- yep, that’s a definite splash of purple, on the very edge of the fire crowd. “Yep. Good catch, babe. Come on, up you get.”

It takes a good tug to get Ben upright, but he moves easily enough, just a little stagger-step as Evie gets him steady. It could be nothing more than his leg going numb from sitting on the hard ground, except for how it’s not.

Ben laughs at himself as he catches his balance on Evie’s shoulder. “Ooh, that’s--” he puts his face in her hair for a second, resting there. “That sure is something.”

Evie can’t help but laugh. Of course she would find this boy, who even when he’s loose and stupid and drunk just wants to play games and be a child again, and have his hair petted, and oh-so-gently cuddle his partners in return.  “I know. You should see Mal when she drinks sometime, it’s funny as hell.”

Ben seems steadier now, but he’s still looking at Evie like she hung the moon in the sky. “Does she get really dizzy like this?”

Evie guides him through the crowd, ever so gently. “She gets impulsive, if you can imagine that.” she says drily. “One time when she was really in it she decided that she wanted to drop paint bombs on people in the market, and we ended up with purple paint all over the roof of the fish shop. It took a long time for that to wear off.”

“Wow. Is she--” Ben starts, and then loses the train of thought entirely when he catches sight of Mal again.

Jay Halstead!!! It wasn’t that hard of a choice, to be honest. Don’t get me wrong, I love Adam and Kevin and all the other guys, but Jay is just a whole other level of amazingness. I love the way he basically wears his heart on his sleeve and how dedicated he is to solving certain cases. And yeah, that’s not the best thing sometimes, considering what has happened in season 7, but it’s a good quality to have. I could go on about Jay all day, but I won’t. I’ll end it here. Jay Halstead is everything.

Action in Cloud Ring at W-4NUU

The two major null sec blocs, PandaFam and whatever we’re calling the Imperium plus The Initiative these days, clashed at W-4NUU up in Cloud Ring on Saturday over a Fortizar that Pandemic Horde had dropped in the system. okay so now that i’m steadily working my way through the ballum big bang fics i thought it was time that i did a rec post to share my faves so far! they’re really ALL my faves and i still have some to read as it goes on but:

half agony, half hope by @yasisworld - this is a PERSUASION AU so i was already sold because gosh exes reuniting after time apart is everything to me and this truly has an austen vibe with the glorious yearning and buildup. it was a joy to read, with a really delightful callum, and also THE LETTER. if you have read persuasion you know what i’m referring too. 

i see your face in people i don’t know by @callumsmitchells - i only just read this this morning so i haven’t even commented yet but this has a truly wonderful and sometimes heartbreaking callum pov (and also some great jay content. i get happy when he pops up in fics). everything callum does in this, the decisions that he makes and his thought processes, are so real that i wanted to reach into the fic and give him a hug. if only we could do that. a gorgeously paced internet dating epic that i liked a lot <3

Something New, Something True, Something Endless by @ballumschmallum - a really lovely wedding fic that stays truly in character (which i think is sometimes hard with wedding fics? especially for these two). it has a lovely hopeful tone that made me very happy. 

The Ex Factor by @racheliswritingfic - THIS IS MY FRIEND. I LOVE THIS FIC AS MUCH AS I LOVE HER (ie endlessly). i was lucky enough to read this as it was being written and, as above, i have many feelings on exes reuniting in fics and this has an amazingly sassy ben, a lot of yearning, truly wonderful writing, a great supporting cast and also music. there is nothing not to love. and there’s more to come! 

rhythm and rush by @kay-okays - THIS IS ALSO MY FRIEND. I AGAIN LOVE THIS FIC AS MUCH AS I LOVE HER (ie until the world explodes). i used to send kay anon asks back in the day about how much i love her writing but now i get to do it openly because she actively sends things to me to read and <3 forever in awe of her dialogue and the mood she creates with her words. again, there’s more to come, which i truly cannot wait for. 

Third Time Lucky by @oceandawning - this one hurt my heart a bit. but then also repaired it again, so <3 memory loss fics are a secret fave of mine but i feel they’re sometimes hard to get right, this one is so very right. callum and ben are sorta on a knife edge of tension in this, they’re almost there, and the quiet sadness of it which then turns into quiet hope is really lovely. 

i still have a bunch more to read and i know there’s loads more amazingness to come but wanted to give these a shoutout. i will be back when i’ve read more! and also, if you have a fave rec it to me! i’m new here and need some things to read <3

- Los Casagrandes (2nd Quarter 2019): Los Casagrandes features Ronnie Anne and her brother Bobby Santiago as they adjust to their new life in Great Lakes City, where they now live with their big, loving and chaotic multi-generational family, the Casagrandes. In the series, Ronnie Anne makes new friends, build stronger bonds with her relatives and explores the endless possibilities of city life. Bobby helps Grandpa Hector run the family’s corner store, and becomes familiar with the neighborhood’s quirky characters.The Casagrande family was first introduced in the The Loud House special, The Loudest Mission: Relative Chaos. The special was just nominated for an Imagen Award, which recognizes positive portrayals of Latinos in entertainment media.

The Loud House is co-executive produced by Mike Rubiner (KaBlam!), who will also serve as co-executive producer on Los Casagrandes. Award-winning cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz (Coco) will serve as a cultural consultant and consulting producer for the five-episode arc of The Loud House featuring the Casagrandes. 

The first six episodes will premiere during the airing of Season 4 of its sister series The Loud House.

- Pony (4th Quarter 2019): Pony, an original 2D-animated buddy comedy that follows the life of an average girl, Annie, her (almost) average family and what happens when an excitable, unpredictable, loveable and talking pony comes to live with them in their city apartment. Pony is the first animated comedy series to be greenlit for the U.S. from Nickelodeon International. Created by Ant Blades, Pony is based off a short of the same name from Nickelodeon’s 2015 International Animated Shorts Program.Pony follows Annie’s everyday life as a 9-year-old, from working at her parent’s city farm, located on their apartment balcony, homework, school friends and, most importantly, her friendship with Pony. Pony is Annie’s biggest cheerleader and best friend, although sometimes his optimism and enthusiasm lands the pair in unusual situations.

The series will be starting with a 20-episode order and is set to premiere in the fourth quarter of 2019.

- Glitch Techs (TBA):  Glitch Techs (working title) is an adventure-comedy following two newly recruited kids as they battle video game monsters that come to life in the real world. The series comes from Eric Robles (Fanboy & Chum Chum, The X's, Ni Hao, Kai-Lan) and Dan Milano (Greg the Bunny, Warren the Ape), both hailing from Nickelodeon's Artist Collective, an internal artist-led development program, and is being produced at the Nickelodeon Animation Studio in Burbank, Calif. Nickelodeon has picked-up Glitch Techs for an initial 20-episode first season.

The series was announced to be in production since 2016 and was originally intended to premiere on Nickelodeon in 2018.

- Invader ZIm: Enter the Florpus (TBA): In Invader Zim: Enter The Florpus, Zim discovers his almighty leaders have no intention of coming to Earth, and he loses confidence in his own amazingness for the first time in his amazing life, which is the big break his human nemesis Dib has been waiting for. At some point, GIR rides a tiny donkey, and that’s all anyone should really care about. The 2D-animated TV movie is produced by Nickelodeon in Burbank.

The voice cast also features returning Zim alums Andy Berman as Dib Membrane and Melissa Fahn as Gaz Membrane. Additional voice actors reprising their original series roles include: Rodger Bumpass as Professor Membrane, Dib and Gaz’s father; Olivia d’Abo as Tak, Zim’s Irken nemesis; and Paul Greenberg as Poonchy, one of Zim and Dib’s human classmates.

CARTOON NETWORK:

- Infinity Train (TBA): Infinity Train tells the story of Tulip (originally voiced by Ashley Johnson), an analytical teenager with a fondness for order and solving complex puzzles. While it’s never exactly explained how she got there in the short, Infinity Train follows as Tulip makes her way through the titular locomotive and its seemingly infinite cars, each of which contains entire worlds that, for some reason, are in desperate need of her help.

Despite being joined by her sophisticated, bifurcated robot friend One-One (voiced by Jeremy Crutchley and Owen Dennis), the only information Tulip has about her predicament comes in the form of an ever-changing, glowing number etched into her hand that’s trying to give her directions she doesn’t understand.

The official premiere date of the series has yet to be announced.

- Victor and Valentino (TBA):  Created by Diego Molano, this supernatural adventure comedy follows two half-brothers who spend a summer with their grandma in Monte Macabre, a small and mysterious town, where the myths and legends of Latin American folklore come to life.

The series first appeared on Cartoon Network in October 2016 with its pilot episode and is set to premiere early 2019.

- ThunderCats Roar (TBA): Staying true to the premise of the original series, Lion-O and the ThunderCats -- Tygra, Panthro, Cheetara, Wilykat and Wilykit -- barely escape the sudden destruction of their home world, Thundera, only to crash land on the mysterious and exotic planet of Third Earth. Lion-O, the newly appointed Lord of the ThunderCats, attempts to lead the team as they make this planet their new home. A bizarre host of creatures and villains stand in their way, including the evil Mumm-Ra, Third Earth’s wicked ruler who will let nothing, including the ThunderCats, stop his tyrannical reign over the planet.

ThunderCats Roar features a talented voice cast with Max Mittelman (Justice League Action) as Lion-O and Wilykat, Erica Lindbeck (DC Super Hero Girls) as Cheetara and Wilykit, Patrick Seitz (Justice League Action) as Tygra and Mumm-Ra, and Chris Jai Alex (Star Wars: Battlefront II) as Panthro. Victor Courtright (Pickle and Peanut) and Marly Halpern-Graser (Right Now Kapow) serve as producers, with Sam Register (Teen Titans Go!) as executive producer.

The series is set to be released late 2019.

- DC Super Hero Girls (1st quarter 2019):  The DC Super Hero Girls universe is expanding on Cartoon Network and into more graphic novels. From executive producer Lauren Faust (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic), the new DC Super Hero Girls cartoon will feature fresh redesigns of popular characters like Wonder Woman, Batgirl and Supergirl as they navigate high school and superhero life.

The series has been previewed with online shorts since 2015 and a short clip of an episode titled “The Late Batsby” was shown at San Diego Comic Con in Summer 2018.

And we’re back for another month of reading! I didn’t do a lot of writing this month, but I read a LOT so this list is long! So buckle up, and let’s look back on the amazing fics I read this month! (There’s a lot of Tomlinshaw, but I promise there’s Larry too! Keep reading and don’t give up on me pls hehe)

but tonight (you’re on my mind) by @allwaswell16 / allwaswell16 There’s a lot of Tomlinshaw on this list this month because I was wanting some awesome banter and high angst due to lack of communication and who does that better than Tomlinshaw? ANYWAY, this fic was almost too much for me hahahaha! Anitra has a way of writing that makes you feel every bit of pain and the anticipation building up to where I knew it was going was killing me, but DAMN was the resolution of it all amazing! If Tomlinshaw is your thing, defo give this one a try.

Know You Know You Got It Bad by @taggiecb / taggiecb This one had me cackling but also horrified at the amount of WOW THAT TOTALLY CAME OUT WRONG and misunderstandings, and that is exactly what made this such a fantastic ride. Another fab Tomlinshaw to read, should that be your thing!

Do You Smile To Tempt A Lover by @allwaswell16 / allwaswell16 A MUSEUM AU WHERE NICK PAYS HOMAGE TO PAINTINGS OF MAGGIE SMITH AND JUDI DENCH AFTER OGGLING LOUIS? Yes please. Featuring matchmaker Zayn. AND Louis secretly writes erotica during his lunch breaks? This fic is sooooo fun. A defo Tomlinshaw read.

A Royal Wedding by @reminiscingintherain / reminiscingintherain This short ditty is SO CUTE!!! A short and sweet Larry meet-cute surrounding the royal wedding. It is the best little fic snack to leave you feeling good!

We Used To Wait by @magicalrocketships / sunsetmog I read this as I was on my period and started it around 1 am. Both of these life decisions I do not recommend, because I ended up just shoving a tissue between my face and my pillow so I could keep reading without creating a puddle on my pillow as Nick freaked out in the hospital over Louis possibly not surviving. All the same, the fact I kept reading despite all of this should be one of the highest recommendations. This fic destroyed me and put me back together again in all of the best ways. A Tomlinshaw must read.

Somebody Hurt You (I Know A Place) by @writsgrimmyblog / writcraft I...well looking back on this I thought this fic was a lot shorter than it actually is because I devoured it so fast and it reads so well I had no idea it was 20k. ha! So, that being said: Tomlinshaw featuring amnesia. There’s a few of these coming because I NEEDED IT sorry not sorry. The structure of the fic was beautiful too!

loose lips sink ship all the damn time (not this time) by @mediawhorefics / MediaWhore THIS FIC OMGOSHHHHHHHH I loved it. Gosh I loved it. Secret relationship AGAIN, forced outing, exes to lovers, ALL THE EMOTIONS! The way Nick was written too just had me in LOVE. Sigh. Another fab Tomlinshaw with some incredible structuring that allows you to watch the relationship begin and fall apart all while seeing them come back together again. (I promise, there’s more Larry coming, please don’t give up on me lol)

The Disgruntled Novelist's Bodacious Pornographer (or, that time Nick and Louis were rival romance writers) by aliferuined This fic had me laughing so hard on my porch while my son played with bubbles he actually climbed on my lap to see if I was watching a funny video. I was crying and wheezing. This was just... the most hilarious. Tomlinshaw, again hehe

wait for me to come home by carissima TOMLINSHAW TIME TRAVEL!!! And it’s done in such a beautiful way! It completely satisfies all desires for knowing what happens where and I just LOVE it! 

Once every day your life starts again by blackmustache This fic also features Tomlinshaw amnesia (see a theme for me? lol) and soccer aid and secret relationships and Jay helping them find each other again, which is lovely!

Nobody compares to you by @headband-husbands / fallenflowercrowns (meggiewrites) Larry returns! haha It’s all Larry from here on out on the list, promise :) Tumblr AU! Canon Compliant! Best Friends to Lovers! What more could you want in a fic? I honestly don’t know, which obviously means I loved this one lolll

Seeing Blind by @sugarbabyomega / zedi BLIND ALPHA LOUIS, SAUCY OMEGA HARRY! Gosh this fic just. WOW. It flips between POVs and gives such a full and lovely feel for the entire thing. Involving surprise early heats! No Strings Attached hook ups that turn into Feelings! What could go wrong?? hehehe A new favorite A/B/O for me!

Stay Close, Hold Steady by @jaerie / jaerie THIS FIC FAM! It is one of my fic babies that I didn’t write. hahaha My random ramblings to Jenna as I drove in the car back in March might have helped form this amazing fic and I love it so much. “Brothers” A/B/O Larry fic involving finding your lost family, gender presentation, and so much more. Read while listening to The Tide. It’s a good choice. Promise.

Among Friends by @theficwritersblock / secretswekeepxx This fic, y’all. I’d never seen the film it was based on, so I was a bit wary going into it but IT WAS SO GOOD! SOOOO GOOOOOD!  Be prepared for the pain, the ridiculousness, stupid boys, and love conquering all. Duh.

And I Will Steady Your Hand by @icanhazzalou / kiwikero Another great A/B/O fic! Keri pulls out all the stops with late presentation support group amazingness and the changes and confusion/frustration that come with them, especially at a time of life where it feels like EVERYTHING is changing. It’s such a great fic. Defo read it.

All That You Are by @iamasphodelknox / asphodelknox Y’ALL. This fic. It’s historical fiction at it’s finest. WWII soldier OT5 and Shawn friendship and period typical homophobia and dreams and relying on each other and love and I keep talking and it’s just not enough. All the love for this fic. It is art and beauty and wow. Defo read it.

Getting Naked on Camera (NOT CLICKBAIT) by @velvetnoodle / velvetnoodle (goldfishsunglasses) This little thing had me giggling. A great, light little fic to help you smile on a hard day!

Bijou by @fullonlarrie / FullOnLarrie Lauren did such amazing things with this! Micropenises. Who knew? I didn’t until now, but I can’t wait for the other fics that will eventually be a part of this!

my favourite colour is you by @velvetnoodle / velvetnoodle (goldfishsunglasses) SO CUTE. MUCH CUTE. ALL THE CUTE. It’s so soft and lovely and a happy place to escape.

Slow Hands (Slow Days) by @londonfoginacup / LadyLondonderry This fic, y’all. Farmer Harry, Vet Louis. Softness. Country living. Good friends. It feels so lovely and yet I couldn’t stop giggling at the slow hands aspect of it. haha Defo recommend reading this to understand what slow hands has to do with any of this. 

Your Shadow Running Round by @harrystanslouis / harrystanslouis This fic is lovely! So lovely! Stupid boys who made stupid decisions and have to fix things are a soft spot for me, and that is definitely featured in this fic.

Run With Your Mind by @larryandgaystuff / larryandgaystuff (cnd8544) Another great story with such a great connection to the song it was written for! Full of stupid boys with feelings they aren’t talking about even though they really should. Maybe that was this month’s theme. Next month’s should be communication. HAH! 

Took Me by Surprise by @becomeawendybird / QuickedWeen This is a fic that Molly teased me with the idea for AGES ago and when it finally came to fruition I was not disappointed! Such an amazing read and a fic all around! The kid aspect was so believable and wonderful and just a lovely added bonus to the entire thing.

All My Friends Are Here by abrighteryellow This was the cutest fic! Pub quiz hosted by Harry becomes more than just a little appealing to Louis, despite the fact he doesn’t want it to be. A short little meet-cute to make you smile!

Mars Needs Irishmen by @fakedeepplantjerker / kassio Listen. This is a fic where the relationship tagged is Niall and Space. It’s got a great narrative structure and the story is so lovely! I really enjoyed it. So fulfilling and a great read!

maybe by @gaycousinlarry / momentofclarity This story!!! Two little nerdy boys who don’t think they have a chance with the other falling for each other anyway? Yes please. A beautifully fulfiling story considering how few words there are!

Beat the Odds Together by @ireallysawanangel / crimsontheory Cute! That’s all I can really say. It was so cute! A short little thing with surprising amounts of emotion packed in. 

walk down our aisles first by @jumperlouis / musketrois (B_kate) THIS. WAS. SO. SWEET. I keep saying that, but these short fics for the short fic fest gave me life when I was dealing with stress from my mom’s big open heart surgery and the aftermath of that. This was was particularly lovely as a meet cute with a slight twist to it that I really enjoyed.

Redwood Seedlings Prefer Full Sunlight by @polkadotsvstripes / polka_stripes Girl!Direction short fic featuring a meet-cute! I really enjoyed this one too. A fun quick read that also makes you hope they make it work hehe

Sea of Love by @kinglouisxxviii / theweightofmywords Mermaids and Princes! What more could you ask for?

If Anyone Knew by @marastarfar / StarFar Listen. This was one of the first A/B/O fics I ever read, and it was a WIP. A WIP I thought had been abandoned but then the amazing Mara almost made me cry by completing it! This fic is so great. Please be warned though, there are a LOT of triggers and it very much is a dark!fic in many ways, so be cautious before jumping in. Worth it if you can handle it, though! A great read, as StarFar’s stuff always is.

tell me what you need by @disgruntledkittenface / disgruntledkittenface This fic!!! I laughed hard enough to have my husband pause his movie and take out his headphones to ask me what in the world was going on lollll The pacing of this fic! It had me gasping and having to pause reading on numerous occasions so I could see clearly enough to keep reading. Definitely up there as one of the funniest fics I’ve ever read. 

Not yet a breach, but an expansion by @kinglouisxxviii / theweightofmywords GOSH THIS FIC! Heartwrenching and beautiful and so powerful in so few words! How?!?! I have no idea. Gorgeous and an amazing twist on soulmates.

when i'm pipe and slippers and rocking chair by nightwideopen Whoops. I lied. Another Tomlinshaw. Whatcha gonna do? This was such a cute little thing, though. Such a fun little established relationship fic hehe

head over feet by @kinglouisxxviii / theweightofmywords This fic was so good I went yelling in my GCs until I could find someone who know the tumblr associated with this AO3 and then I immediately ran and began screaming at Caryn, okay? Please read it. Love yourself. Read this fic.

Wish You Were Here by @undersummerstars / alittlewicked SELKIE HARRYYYYYYY!!! I need all the selkie Harry fics. Amazing. This one absolutely did not disappoint. I loved it and it made me crave more. 

Surrender to Seduction by @laynefaire / Layne Faire (HisDarlin) Layne’s tag “fast and loose with canon” had me giggling but those giggles stopped as I read this fic because the way she writes has such power and draw I was immediately in the story. A great read!

Until You Use Me Up by @fullonlarrie / FullOnLarrie OKAY LISTEN. Before I knew this was Lauren’s I read it and was just like FANNING MYSELF. It was so hot and so well done and amazing. It was just...amazing.

AND THAT, in reverse chronological order (because apparently that’s how I roll today), is a list of the fics I read and loved this month! Thank you to all of the amazing writers who shared your amazing works with us! You provided me with so much help in difficult days and entertainment.

I Always Know

Happy birthday @jensen-jay! We hope your day is filled with amazingness! Much love from your Supernatural family!

You sat back watching the panel. Jared didn’t even know you were there. You were dressed like many of the fans; an AKF hoodie, jeans and a pair of Chucks. You were seated at the far end of your row, hoping the stage lights obscured his view of you. 

The band came back out on stage signaling the end of the panel and Jensen whispered something to Rob. He nodded and turned to the band to convey the message. 

“So we have a special song we would like to play for you before Jared and Jensen have to leave,” Rob explained and the band started playing. 

You internally cringed as the first notes of “Happy Birthday” filled the room. You looked up at Jared on stage and he was looking directly at you. He winked and smiled. Normally, this would have melted your heart, but you weren’t even supposed to be there and you had not told him you were coming. But somehow he knew; he always knew. 

The entire crowd was singing along with the band and Jared and Jensen picked up their microphones again. “Happy birthday, dear Y/N. Happy birthday to you.”

Jared jumped off stage and rushed over to you, wrapping you in a giant hug. “You thought I wouldn’t know you were here? I always know. Happy birthday baby!”

Needless to say, your birthday turned out better than it would have if you had stayed home instead of flying in to surprise your boyfriend. Instead, it was you that got the surprise.
