He takes a step forward when there's an impatient cough behind him, but as he does there's a knock against his shoulder and the sudden wet burn of coffee spilling down the front of his white shirt.

Fucking brilliant.

Instinct kicks in as he pulls at the dry part of his shirt, lifting it so the stained and still hot fabric isn't clinging to his skin. The scald stings as it's met with the cool, conditioned air of the coffee shop, and it’s as he steps away from a forming, somewhat concerned crowd that Jenson starts to wonder which god, or gods, he pissed off for this to be his life.

A pair of hands that aren't his own touch him. He flinches back, batting at them automatically and finally sounds come back to him.

“Oh shit, oh fuck, I’m sorry! I'm so sorry. Fuck, I'm so clumsy, sorry!”

The kid barely looks older than twenty-one, twenty-three at most, all wide eyes and messy hair and fluttery hands. His eyes are bright, every fleck of blue and green visible, framed by long, curled lashes and filled with panic. His mouth keeps moving, but Jenson’s attention is drawn to the curve of his Cupid's bow, the way sharp canines peek out as he speaks. They'd leave a pretty ring, and isn't that a thought he quickly shoves into a box and compartmentalises.

Hands are back on him, patting and prodding and pulling, and Jenson again bats them away instinctively even as more apologies pour from the kid’s mouth. He sounds close to tears at this point, eyes getting shiny and it tugs at something inside his chest.

“It's okay.” He says. It definitely isn't, and he probably should go check to see how badly he's been scalded, but he says it anyway.

“I'm sorry.” The kid says again, and really he should stop calling him a kid. Then with another flutter of hand movements, Jenson finds himself with cash being pushed into hands.

Marie has noticed a difference in the way Jenson cues in classes with Lando versus ones where he’s absent, and it’s probably rude to be so nosy, but watching them interact is better than any TV series running currently. The classes might be expensive, but at least the entertainment is free.

"I'm going crazy missing you", Jenson whispers at the person on the screen of his phone as he stares out the floor length windows of the office he's in.

Lando's sleepy laughter and soft gaze make him ache. It's late in the UK, but for Jenson, the day isn't even half way finished as he gazes out at the cityscape of New York.

He knows so many people that would kill to be where he is standing right now, but Jenson would give everything to be at home with Lando.

"I miss you too", Lando yawns, stretching and Jenson can see he's wearing Jenson's old university hoodie. The name plastered across the front, and Jenson's initials sewn into the left side.

It makes him so damn fond.

He really hadn't expected to fall so in love with someone so much younger than him. He knew his friends thought he was insane. He heard the jokes the office made, but Jenson didn't care. Lando was the best damn thing that ever happened him to and so damn charming and smart and just beautiful.

He wasn't a sugar baby or a mid-life crisis as Mark had called him. No, Lando was wealthy enough to never need Jenson's money. He was smart enough to have told Jenson to keep walking if this was his panic fuck over turning forty when Jenson had met him.

"Are you listening?"

Lando is giving him a look and suddenly Jenson knows he can't be here anymore.

He knows his associates can handle this deal.

He knows he needs to be home with Lando; holding him, fucking him, kissing him softly to hear his giggles, listening to him bitch about some game or watching him blush when he catches Jenson staring.

He just needs to be with his love.

"No, but I'll be home soon, yeah? Gonna be on the next flight", Jenson promises, moving around the office to gather his things, "no more timezones, baby"

and then there's Jenson, whose wife died but he's still got to pay the medical bills for her treatments and it's been 3 years and they still don't seem to be going down, and now he's 40 and having a crisis because oh shit maybe he DID love Fernando when they were 20 something and men are looking nice now he's come to terms with his wife dying and his bisexuality but he's got his kids he can't just suddenly fuck a man, can he? and his shitty boss has just terminated his and 20 other people's contracts thanks to ai and automation so now he's unemployed too and god he just wants a BREAK

Why are people criticising Lando for being open about the mental and nervous pressures of F1.

Two days ago people were up in arms over the impact Logan’s dismissal will have on his mental health.

Last weekend the trophy was lauded for highlighting the struggles and sacrifices top athletes go through.

Not long ago we found out about what the pressure of F1 was silently doing to Valtteri.

Read Jenson and Mark Webber’s books. They couldn’t eat before races because they were scared it would make them overweight, meaning every race was hangry and at real danger of passing out.

Lewis has gone through phases of pushing everyone away, including his Dad, because he thought he needed that solitude to achieve a “champion’s mentality”.

Nico Rosberg walked away from the sport as he couldn’t face putting himself or his family through the sacrifices to be a champion and the personality changes it caused all over again.

People need to accept that this is a sport, it is tough and it leads the drivers to dark places.

Would you rather drivers be silent and not disturb your personal enjoyment of the sport or can you accept that they push themselves to places you couldn’t?

When I first started martial arts my teacher taught us, when things get tough your brain will tell you you can’t, because it wants the easiest most comfortable option. Your body can and will do what you ask of it, pushing past the mind is the hardest part.

Time to accept and support or shut up.
