Brazil's flooded south paralyzed as rivers swell, again
Rivers in south Brazil rose anew Monday as flood rescue efforts intensified and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva conceded authorities had not been "prepared" for a disaster of such magnitude.
Tumblr media
More than 600,000 people have been displaced by heavy rains, flooding and mudslides that have ravaged the southern Rio Grande do Sul state for about two weeks.
At least 147 people have been killed and more than 800 injured in the deluge, and rescuers searched Monday in boats and on jet skis for 127 people reported missing.
Hundreds of cities and towns and part of the regional capital Porto Alegre -- a bustling city of 1.4 million inhabitants -- have been under water for days, with streets turned into waterways.
"It is a catastrophe for which we were not prepared," Lula said in a conference call with Finance Minister Fernando Haddad and Rio Grande do Sul Governor Eduardo Leite.

SpaceTime -- A brief history
SpaceTime is Australia’s most popular and respected astronomy and space science news program – averaging over two million downloads every year. We’re also number five in the United States.  The show reports on the latest stories and discoveries making news in astronomy, space flight, and science.  SpaceTime features weekly interviews with leading Australian scientists about their research.  The show began life in 1995 as ‘StarStuff’ on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s (ABC) NewsRadio network.  Award winning investigative reporter Stuart Gary created the program during more than fifteen years as NewsRadio’s evening anchor and Science Editor.  Gary’s always loved science. He studied astronomy at university and was invited to undertake a PHD in astrophysics, but instead focused on his career in journalism and radio broadcasting. He worked as an announcer and music DJ in commercial radio, before becoming a journalist and eventually joining ABC News and Current Affairs. Later, Gary became part of the team that set up ABC NewsRadio and was one of its first presenters. When asked to put his science background to use, Gary developed StarStuff which he wrote, produced and hosted, consistently achieving 9 per cent of the national Australian radio audience based on the ABC’s Nielsen ratings survey figures for the five major Australian metro markets: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, and Perth.  The StarStuff podcast was published on line by ABC Science -- achieving over 1.3 million downloads annually.  However, after some 20 years, the show finally wrapped up in December 2015 following ABC funding cuts, and a redirection of available finances to increase sports and horse racing coverage.  Rather than continue with the ABC, Gary resigned so that he could keep the show going independently.  StarStuff was rebranded as “SpaceTime”, with the first episode being broadcast in February 2016.  Over the years, SpaceTime has grown, more than doubling its former ABC audience numbers and expanding to include new segments such as the Science Report -- which provides a wrap of general science news, weekly skeptical science features, special reports looking at the latest computer and technology news, and Skywatch – which provides a monthly guide to the night skies. The show is published three times weekly (every Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and available from the United States National Science Foundation on Science Zone Radio, and through both i-heart Radio and Tune-In Radio.

Meet the farmswap boys! Barley and cider!
Barley
He is 40 years old, born on June 8 and stands at 6’3. Barley is a half breed monster with tan magic and an orange soul for bravery
Barley is a rather cheeky fellow, he always has a joke or teasing remark on his tongue. He comes across as lazy but he’s surprisingly attentive and driven about the things he cares about. And hes rather protective of friends and family.
For work, he helps in the family brewery. He makes the beers, ciders and wines that come from the family farm. Every one knows which barrel or bottle barley made. His drinks are so good it’s almost like magic
Things he likes: beer, wine and cider, playing the violin and guitar, singing, music in general, hunting, fishing and DnD
Cider
He is 44 years old, born on may 26 and stands at 5’6! Cider is a half breed monster with grass green magic and a blue soul for integrity.
Cider is such a darling. He’s the kind of playful sweetheart that has grandmas lining up to pinch those chubby cheeks. He’s bouncy and helpful, always happy to have his hands full of any sort of project! He’s a very responsible sort who has the bad habit of trying to shoulder everyone’s burdens, and while he’s tough enough most of the time, he can overwhelm himself if no one is watching. His loyalty is unmatched
He tends the family vineyard. Cider comes from several generations of wine makers and takes the quality of his grapes extremely seriously. When the vineyard doesn’t need tending, he has his treasured quails to focus on too
Things he likes: grapes, wine, his small flock of quails, strategy board games, concerts and music shows, hunting, axe throwing, carpentry, jet skis
Since the farm monsters don’t have a royal line, there is no Asgore and toriel. However there are other side characters still!
Carmen: the human mother of cider and barley, she’s a real southern belle happy to help in the family brewery. She manages the one vintage bar the family still owns. The rest of the drinks are shipped off to stores around ebott
Whiskey: (farmswap gaster), the father of cider and barley, whiskey used to tend the orchids, but an old injury five years ago left him with a permanent limp and unable to do the heavy lifting. So he switched places with his brother and handles the finances these days
Acres: (farmswap alphys), the older cousin of the farmswap boys, acres is part of the large tribe of monsters that makes up the goldwheat brewery. She is in charge managing the shipping of the drinks, and also raises pigs on the side

Ukrainian pilots would be training on their own to fly A-10 Thunderbolt aircraft
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 08/22/2022 - 9:08 PM in Military, War Zones
Ukraine would have started a secret program to train Ukrainian pilots to fly A-10 Thunderbolt II ground attack aircraft, in an effort to provide support on the battlefield to the besieged Ukrainian formations.
TIME magazine reported the existence of a secret training base where Ukrainian pilots were being brought in to accelerate their training in handling the A-10s, also known as Warthogs, using improvised simulators. These simulators were designed with the help of open source YouTube videos of U.S. military trainers in action and built with ready-to-use components and guidance from retired U.S. military officers and an enterprising Ukrainian infantry soldier who was able to finance the development of the secret simulation training center A-10 Warthog.
The unit has been in operation since the beginning of May. It consists of two rooms with walls covered with photos of the A-10 next to some posters that said: "Keep calm and kill the Soviet tanks".
Each station had a realistic accelerator, joystick and virtual reality glasses connected to a computer tower that emitted a technicolor glow. None of the equipment was secret, and most of the components came from a niche in the gaming community that builds flight simulators for fun.
Tumblr media

Gorgan noted that the video game nature of the installation was directly inspired by U.S. Air Force A-10 pilots from the 355th Training Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Base in Arizona, who use Digital Combat Simulator World (DCS), a publicly available switch game to train in virtual reality.
The pilots themselves wore a ski mask under their virtual reality glasses to protect their identities, and the pilots were the main reason for secrecy. The Ukrainian Air Force does not have many pilots, and some have been killed in the war in recent months. It usually takes years to train a pilot, costing the military millions of dollars in aviation fuel alone, the report said.
youtube
According to Time magazine, Alexander Gorgan, described as a 46-year-old "low-level infantry officer in the Ukrainian armed forces with high-level connections", and the brain behind the base project of the A-10 training center. Throughout the article, Gorgan emphasizes the relentless bombing that the Russians have been employing against Ukrainian forces during the war, explaining that the attacks could be fought more successfully if they had the right air support. Gorgan firmly believes that the Warthog is the perfect plane for work and, although the United States is in doubt about the possibility of offering them to Ukraine, he decided to start solving the matter with his own hands.
The A-10 is well designed to attack tanks, but is vulnerable in disputed airspace such as Ukraine's, where Russian jets and anti-aircraft missiles remain active.
Tumblr media
In particular, Ukrainian Air Force Command spokesman Yuriy Ignat explained that, under the conditions of the current war, the combat work of air support jets is complicated due to Russia's dense anti-aircraft defense.
Although there is no official proposal to transfer the A-10s to Ukraine, on July 15, the U.S. Congress adopted a draft Pentagon budget in which it provides $100 million for the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 and F-15 aircraft. U.S. Senators have asked the U.S. Department of Defense to include F-16 and F-15 aircraft in future military aid packages for Ukraine. The Pentagon reported that it is now conducting research on the prospect of transferring multifunctional aircraft to Ukraine.
Tumblr media
"The A-10 is an incredible machine for killing tanks," retired Air Force General Philip Breedlove, former Supreme Ally Commander of Europe who is now at the Middle East Institute, told TIME. But it works best in environments where enemy aircraft and anti-aircraft batteries have been neutralized. “If you were flying to an air force that had a really good ability to suppress enemy air defenses, interference, noise interference, specific target radar interference and do all these things to make the target area more permissive, you could be able to operate the A-10s in a high or medium threat arena, but Ukrainians do not have that ability," says Breedlove.
Alexander Gorgan, a Ukrainian infantry officer, wants the Ukrainian Air Force to obtain an A-10 to protect troops on the ground. He turned to Andrii Vavrysh, real estate entrepreneur and developer, to help fund the project, buy the VR headphones, replica A-10 controls made by online players and computer banks to run the simulations. Vavrysh also contacted Oleksandr Polishchuk, Deputy Minister of Defense, who took the idea to the Ukrainian Air Force, which agreed to help identify pilots for the program.
Tumblr media
The Ukrainian and Russian air forces use the Su-25 aircraft in ground attack missions. In the photo, an A-10 with a Su-25 from Bulgaria.
A country would normally not start training pilots until it made the formal decision to request the planes. "We don't have the political decision yet, but there are some political signs that we can get these weapons at some point. For us, this means: starting training to use them," says Polishchuk.
When U.S. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall asked at the end of July if the U.S. would consider giving Ukraine an A-10, he did not rule it out in the long run. "Older U.S. systems are a possibility," Kendall said, speaking at the Aspen Security Forum. “As Ukraine, which is very busy dealing with the problem of now, tries to solve what its long-term future will be, we will be open to discussions with them about what their requirements are and how we can satisfy them.”
Tumblr media
Sukhoi Su-25 Frogfoot of the Ukrainian Air Force.
Both Russian forces and the Ukrainian Armed Forces apply the Su-25 jet mainly using the same method - launching unguided rockets, long distance and without direct visibility of the target.
Under these conditions, it will not be possible to use one of the main advantages of the A-10 - the 30 mm seven-barreled GAU-8 Avenger cannon, which is highly effective in destroying targets.
The successful experience of using the A-10 in 1991 in Iraq was due to the total elimination of Iraqi military aviation and air defense systems. Therefore, Thunderbolt II operated under the conditions of full air dominance by the allies.

Redwood And New Story Homes Work Together To Solve The Housing Crisis
Nick Pasquini recently returned from a trip to El Salvador to check out the progress of New Story Homes – a nonprofit that has been a mainstay of the ongoing “Redwood Gives Back” charitable initiatives. But to Nick, this trip was extra special in that it perfectly packaged his top priorities.
“This was all of my life’s passions coming together all at once,” says the CEO and co-founder of Century 21 Redwood Realty. “As an entrepreneur, it’s great when your life and your work blend together and become one. That’s what this trip was – and it was very rewarding.”
When it comes to what matters to Nick, his family gets top billing, so it was fitting that his wife Sara and kids Sofia and Enzo traveled with him.
Tumblr media
But several other boxes were checked, too.
“I had my family there, and I also love travel and adventure. It was tied in with my work and philanthropy. And then all that is linked with housing. A previous trip to work with New Story in Haiti and then this trip to El Salvador were rare moments in time where I was able to put everything together.”
The primary focus of Nick’s “vision trip” was to meet up with the New Story team and tour the homes that have been built as a tangible solution to a worldwide housing crisis. But Nick’s family purposely arrived in the country a little early to become acquainted with the people, the landscape, and the culture of El Salvador.
First, his family enjoyed some R & R—with an emphasis on the second “R:” recreation. They hiked to the top of a volcano in Santa Ana, trekked through a jungle, swam and jet skied in Lake Coatepeque, shopped in the street markets, and indulged in pupusas, ceviche, and more.
After a few days of adventure, they traveled to El Espino, El Salvador, where they met some of the 64 families whose lives have been transformed by safe and decent housing. These families had been displaced for 15 years, living in temporary, makeshift shacks due to a developer purchasing the land on which they had been living.
“It was great to see the joy in the faces of the vulnerable families who had previously been in unsafe housing conditions who now have safe places to live,” says Nick.
Tumblr media
One of the families told him how much weather impacted the quality of their lives before they lived in good housing.
“When it rained, we couldn't get into our homes, and if we were inside our homes and it rained, we couldn’t get out.”
Nick explains, “These single-room 10-foot by 10-foot homes had dirt floors and were very unstable, so every time there was substantial rainfall, their homes flooded. A lot of times, they would lose all their belongings, even when they would stack them up high to keep them out of the muddy floods.”
Nick and his family visited three different New Story Homes communities where families who had been living in unsafe housing now thrive. “They showed us their homes, their gardens,” says Nick. “We even played soccer with them. It was great! The kids there swarmed my kids. We’ve found it’s universal that kids get along with other kids no matter where you go!”
Tumblr media
“New Story Homes offers a unique business model that differs from other traditional housing charities,” says Nick.
The organization partners with local governments and invests with local developers to develop land with important municipal utilities such as roads, water, sewage, and electricity. Families enter into a savings program to pay for their land. After approximately 24 months, families receive their lot title, making them legal owners. Families can then use their land as collateral to access affordable home construction financing.
Nick continues to be grateful for the compassionate outpouring that Redwood agents and employees have shown through the Redwood Gives Back program.

Why Does Your Jet Ski Bill of Sale Protect Your Purchase? The Essential Guide
When it comes to the thrill and excitement of owning a jet ski, nothing should get in the way—not even the complexities of legal paperwork. At the National Documentation Portal, we understand the eagerness of boat and watercraft enthusiasts to hit the waves as soon as possible. Yet, an essential step can’t be overlooked: securing a jet ski bill of sale.
A jet ski bill of sale isn’t just a formality—it’s the backbone of your ownership rights and an indispensable protection against future uncertainties. Whether trading up for more horsepower or choosing your first personal watercraft, this legal document ensures that your aquatic adventures are carefree.
More Than Just a Receipt Think of a bill of sale as the anchor of your jet ski’s documentation—a necessity that stands firm against potential legal tides:
Legal Proof of Ownership: It confirms you’re the rightful new watercraft owner. Protection Against Disputes: Should any disagreements surface later, this document is your first line of defense. Essential for Financing & Insurance: Banks and insurance companies often require a bill of sale before considering loans or coverage. The Crucial Elements of a Jet Ski Bill of Sale Including the correct details is paramount to a bill of sale’s effectiveness. Here’s what you must incorporate to ensure your document is up to par legally:
Buyer and Seller Information Complete names and addresses alongside contact information create clear channels of ownership and responsibility.
Vessel Details For identification purposes, a detailed description, including the make, model, year, Hull Identification Number (HIN), and any registration numbers, is non-negotiable.
Sale Information The sale price, terms of sale, payment methods, and a note on any payment agreements offer transparency and trust between parties.
Condition and Warranty An “as-is” statement or specified warranties set clear expectations about the jet ski’s condition at the point of sale.
Disclosure of Liens and Encumbrances Acknowledging any outstanding financial claims or loans on the jet ski protects the buyer from inherited debts.
Signatures and Dates These, signed by both parties and dated, serve as the formal acknowledgment and agreement to the bill of sale’s terms.
  Steering Clear of Pitfalls
Even minor oversights in a jet ski bill of sale can wave in unwelcome trouble. Remember these additional safeguards:
Legal Support A template can steer you in the right direction, but always consider legal advice for water-tight protection, especially in complex sales.
Strengthening the Document Some states might require a notary or additional witnesses—these extra steps are worth the effort to ensure the bill of sale’s solidity.
Remember, in a 2022 survey, a staggering 25% of private boat sales were marred with disputes due to inadequate bills of sale. An incomplete or inaccurate document can delay the joy of your purchase and plunge you into unnecessary conflicts.

The Most Significant Advantages of Selling Your Boat Online:
More buyers: Boat sales are at an all-time high in the United States, and similar patterns are being seen in other industrialised nations.
A speedier transaction: After listing, you could occasionally receive several offers in the first day or two. Your best option if you want this deal to go through as soon as possible is to sell online.
A greater cost: When you sell online, you can usually get away with charging more. A larger pool of potential buyers will be interested in your boat, therefore there may be competition among them to outbid one another.
Although it's a true option, charging a greater price will typically mean you have to wait longer to finalise the deal. If you would like to complete the deal right away, you can also decide to reduce the price.

A story of unexpected love is on its way to the big screen.
PEOPLE has the first trailer for Someone Like You, an adaptation of Karen Kingsbury's 2020 novel, written and directed by Tyler Russell. The film's cast includes Jake Allyn, Sarah Fisher, Robyn Lively, Bart Johnson, Scott Reeves and Lynn Collins.
The bestselling author self-financed the project under her Karen Kingsbury Productions company. As she tells PEOPLE, "Of all the books I’ve written, Someone Like You is easily my readers’ favorite."
And when it came time to consider an adaptation, "I’ve learned when it comes to filmmaking, money holds the creative power," she explains. "My books have been adapted into other wonderful films and TV shows, but the only way to make the movie in my heart was to make it myself."
"Last year we had built up a bit of savings, so one day my husband and I looked at each other and said, 'What if we use it all to make a movie? And if not now, when?' " she adds. "We prayed about it, and the next day we took the leap."
The story is about architect Dawson Gage (Allyn), who mourns the sudden death of his best friend London Quinn (Fisher). Dawson then sets out to find London's long-lost secret twin sister, twins separated during their parents' IVF procedure.
That twin, Andi Allen (also Fisher) was unaware of her conception and sets out to meet her biological parents. But Dawson and Andi are both caught off guard when they form a romance of their own. Kingsbury, 60, says the film is "breathtaking, truly," featuring "sweeping cinematography, gripping acting and an unforgettable score."
"We had one priority when we cast this film: to hire actors who were brilliantly talented and who believed in the project," says Kingsbury.
She says Lynn Collins, who plays Louise Quinn, "told us that, for personal reasons, the script made her cry. 'I had to make this movie,' she told us."
Additionally, since the movie is Russell's directorial debut, "it was important that our gifted actors trusted him. They all did, and now they all say Someone Like You showcases some of their best work ever," Kingsbury says.
The author had an emotional experience writing the novel and says the movie "follows the deep emotion of the book."
"When I wrote Someone Like You, I didn’t feel like I was making it up," says Kingsbury. "Lost in the lines of the story, I didn’t want to come up for air, but only to live there on the lake with Dawson and Andi, riding the jet skis and watching the sunset and helping them find a way to make it work."
"I ached for them, laughed with them, and cried with them," she continues, "and when I wrote the last sentence, I looked at my husband and said, 'One day, that is going to be my first movie!' "
Someone Like You is in theaters April 2 from Fathom.

Unlocking the Skies: Your Path to Aviation Jobs in Canada
Tumblr media
Canada's aviation industry has been a cornerstone of its transportation network and economic growth for decades. With a vast landscape that demands efficient air travel, the country boasts a thriving aviation sector that offers diverse career opportunities. In this article, we will explore the various paths to aviation jobs in Canada, examining the qualifications, job prospects, and the unique advantages of working in this dynamic industry.
1. Pilots: Navigating the Canadian Skies
One of the most visible and glamorous roles in aviation is that of a pilot. Pilots play a pivotal role in transporting people and goods across the country. Becoming a pilot in Canada requires rigorous training and certification, but the rewards are well worth it. The journey begins with obtaining a private pilot's license (PPL), followed by more advanced licenses like the commercial pilot's license (CPL) and the airline transport pilot license (ATPL). Canada's diverse geography provides an excellent training ground for pilots to gain experience in various flying conditions, from the Rockies to the Arctic.
Like many others worldwide, the Canadian aviation industry has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in reduced demand and layoffs. However, as travel restrictions ease, the demand for pilots is expected to rise. Additionally, the retirement of aging pilots is creating a steady need for new pilots, making this career path promising in the long term.

The secret U.S. aircraft you may never have heard of
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 09/24/2022 - 22:49 in History, Military
The United States operates more stealth aircraft than any other country on the planet, both in terms of volume and variety, with three publicly disclosed stealth platforms in service and at least three more at some stage of development.
But for each F-22 Raptor, F-35 Joint Strike Fighter or B-2 Spirit, there are several stealth jets that have never reached the operational hangars - either because of program cancellations or, often, because they were never assigned to the combat service. Sometimes, these programs aim to prove new advanced technological concepts, test new classified systems or prove the effectiveness of a capacity intended to be included in other aircraft.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Have Blue demonstrator that later became the F-117.
Due to the very nature of the technology, new stealth aircraft are usually developed under the utmost secrecy. The F-117 Nighthawk, as a famous example, was operational for years before the American government recognized its existence. Likewise, prototypes, technology demonstrators and even programs intended for the service, but canceled for various reasons, often remain shrouded in mystery for years, even after they stop flying.
Tumblr media

Tumblr media
YF-22 and YF-23.
Still commonly referred to as "Black Programs", the Pentagon has a long and illustrious history of financing the secret development of advanced technologies. Today, the most secret efforts fall within what is commonly referred to as Special Access Programs or SAPs, which limit the distribution of information even among those with the most far-reaching security authorizations. But even within the world of SAPs, another even more obscure designation remains: unrecognized SAPs, or USAPs. These efforts are so secret that briefings are kept off paper and delivered by word of mouth only to the highest levels of government.

The X-32 and the X-35.
As we discussed recently in a detailed article of the legend surrounding the seemingly mythical U.S. Aurora reconnaissance plane, many of these aircraft may never be revealed... By the veil of the budget, and some may have escaped your radar since the release.

Tumblr media
Boeing's Bird of Prey
Throughout the 1990s, a team of engineers from McDonnell Douglas' Phantom Works developed and tested an exclusive stealth aircraft hidden in the secrecy of Area 51, known to most as Bird of Prey. Unlike most stealth programs, Bird of Prey, developed under the pseudonym "YF-118G", was not aimed at operational service, but elements of the design and production process are still reaching Uncle Sam's hangars to this day.
Perhaps the most lasting contribution that this incredible and exotic fuselage made to the United States defense apparatus was its audacity and subsequent success. While most stealth aircraft are known for their high cost, the Bird of Prey went from a block of paper to the skies of Area 51 for less than the cost of a single F-35 today. The entire program cost only $67 million from start to finish.
Powered by a single Pratt & Whitney JT15D-5C turbofan engine, which produced only 3,190 pounds of thrust, the Bird of Prey was not a fighter, but proved that Boeing had the talent to produce a stealth aircraft while advancing technologies linked to rapid prototyping and construction of single-piece composite material.
Tumblr media
McDonnell Douglas A-12 Avenger II
On January 13, 1988, a joint team of McDonnell Douglas and General Dynamics received a development contract for what would become the A-12 Avenger II (not to be confused with the A-12 proposed by Lockheed in the 1960s). The A-12 would have been a flying wing project reminiscent of Northrop Grumman's B-2 Spirit or the future B-21 Raider, although much smaller. The sharp triangular shape of the A-12 ended up gaining the nickname "the flying Dorito".
Tumblr media
Despite clearly serving in an attack capability, Lockheed's F-117 Nighthawk received the designator "F" (and the informal nickname of "scult sting") intentionally. The F-117 did not have real air-to-air capacity - a defining feature of a "hunting" aircraft - but Air Force officers expected that the concept of a "strailer hunt" would attract the type of highly qualified fighter pilots that this new attack aircraft would really need.
The Navy did not accept such a change in the designating letter in its own stealth jet. He planned to seal the platform with an "A" prefix to demonstrate its use against land targets, despite actually having the ability to engage aerial targets with his two internally stored AMRAAM AIM-120 air-to-air missiles. In other words, the A-12 Avenger II would have been the first real poacher in America.
Tumblr media
In 1991, however, the A-12 was significantly overweight, over budget and delayed, leading to its cancellation without ceremony.
Tumblr media
Boeing Model 853-21 Quiet Bird
The widely forgotten Model 853-21 Quiet Bird is a prototype of a stealth aircraft that, in fact, precedes the first flight of the Have Blue precursor of the F-117 in almost a decade and a half. The effort began as a study to develop a low-observation aircraft to serve as an observation aircraft for the U.S. Army.
Throughout 1962 and 1963, Boeing experimented with stealth aircraft design concepts for the Quiet Bird, incorporating different shapes and building materials in an effort to reduce the radar cross section (RCS) of the jet long before Denys Overholser at Lockheed's Skunk Works developed the means to accurately calculate an RCS without placing the aircraft in front of a radar matrix.
Tumblr media
Although Boeing's tests proved promising, the U.S. Army did not fully evaluate the value that a stealth aircraft could bring to the fight and the program ended up being filed. However, Boeing credited the lessons learned in the development of the Quiet Bird for the success they would later encounter with the AGM-86 Air Launched Cruise Missile.
Tumblr media
Tacit Blue: the creation of the stealth concept
Tumblr media
Tacit Blue was created to demonstrate that an observable low surveillance aircraft with a low probability of intercepting radar and other sensors could operate near the front line of battle with a high degree of survival. Such an aircraft could continuously monitor the ground situation behind the battlefield and provide real-time targeting information to a ground command center.
Northrop's Tacit Blue aircraft validated a series of innovative technological advances, featuring a straight and conical wing with a V-tail mounted on an oversized curved-shaped fuselage. The aircraft had a wingspan of just over 15 meters and a length of 20 meters. A single air inlet at the top of the fuselage provided air for two high deviation turbofan engines.
The Tacit Blue demonstrated employed a digital flight control system with quadruple redundancy to help stabilize the aircraft on the longitudinal and directional axes. The aircraft made its first flight in February 1982 and subsequently registered 135 flights in a period of three years. The aircraft used to make three to four weekly flights and several times flew more than once a day. The aircraft has been stored since 1985.
NASA and Boeing X-36 tailless fighter agility research aircraft
Like Bird of Prey, the X-36 program did not aim to put a new stealth aircraft on the field for combat, but to mature the technologies that could eventually get there. Today's stealths are extremely difficult to hit, but in fact they are not very difficult to detect and track using even dated radar sets. Because of the performance requirements of a fighter, jets such as the F-35 and F-22 need things like large jet inlets and vertical tail surfaces - things that can be omitted by less acrobatic stealth aircraft such as the B-2 Spirit. These components do not compromise the low observability of a poacher against high-frequency targeting matrices, but they do so against low-frequency early warning radars that are not able to provide a target level lock.
Tumblr media
In the mid-1990s, NASA and McDonnell Douglas (later Boeing) teamed up to try to bridge the gap between the stealth capabilities of flyingwing designs such as the B-2 and acrobatic fighters such as the F-22. Its X-36 is designed to fly without the warp, or tail set, found in most fighters.
Tumblr media
It was built for a scale of 28% of a normal-sized fighter, measuring only 6.5 meters in length. He used a canard in front of the wing, split ailerons and thrust vector control to help compensate for the lost tail. A pilot on the ground controlled the aircraft using a head-up display connected to a camera mounted on his nose.
The X-36 performed a total of 31 successful flights in just 25 weeks, accumulating 15 hours and 38 minutes of flight time using four different iterations of flight control software.
NGAD.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
F/A-XX.
Although no subsequent aircraft has been directly linked to the X-36 program, it is worth noting that almost all official renderings from the U.S. Air Force NGAD and the Navy's F/A-XX fighter programs under development show stealth aircraft without conventional tail surfaces, suggesting the legacy of the X-36 may simply still be shred in secret.
