Little Freak (Harry’s House) - My analysis

Hi, it’s me again with another song analysis. This one was extremely hard for me to write because it’s a delicate subject and I was really worried I could offend Harry with someday I’d say. Before you go into this analysis, know that I do support the theory that Harry has an internal She, therefore this analysis talks into this, so please, read with open mind. Also, this is a raw analysis of the song. With that in mind,  bear with me. This is long.

Little Freak - The way society sees a trans person, maybe the way he used to see himself.

“Little freak, Jezebel, you sit high atop the kitchen counter” - This is the part that sort of confused me as to which way to take when interpreting the song. The biblical meaning of the name Jezebel means  an impudent, shameless, or morally unrestrained woman. In general, calling someone Jezebel it means they’re a gold digger. And on Urban Dictionary it also means someone who gets pregnant at a younger age. At first I thought this song could be a Kiwi 2.0, but the rest of the song is sweet, so I will follow the thought that it’s a woman who is judged by society.

“Stayed green a little while” - Being green means that you’re immature, you’re young and lack experience. That could relate to a younger Harry who was aware of his internal She and didn’t want to look into it because maybe he was scared. It could mean that when he was younger he didn’t explore it, but as he got older, he started looking into it and exploring his feminine side.

“You bring blue lights to dreams” - A blue light strengthens and stimulates connections between areas of your brain that process emotion and language. This means that blue light may, in turn, help people to better handle emotional challenges and regulate mood over time. What I think it means is that his internal She is the one who keeps him true to himself, to who he really is.

“Starry haze and crystal balls” - “Starry haze” could be related to “written in the stars” which means it’s meant to happen, which goes along with the utility of crystal balls, which is seeing the future. So he wonders if in the future he might feel more comfortable with himself.

“Somehow you’ve become some paranoia” - At first, Harry decided to explore his feminine side and didn’t look too much into it, but when he realised that his internal She had a way deeper and more important meaning to him and that he really identified himself with her, he couldn’t escape it, and therefore it became a paranoia. It could also mean that he was scared to publically explore his feminine side, afraid people would judge it, and so he started being paranoid “but if I do this they will see it, but if I paint my nails they will think I’m this or that” and so it goes. (It really hurts to write this).

“Wet dreams just dangling” - Well, I don’t need to say what this term means, but remember Harry’s lyrics in She when he says “she’s the first one that I see” that relates to his internal She being the first thing he sees when he wakes up and “she sleeps in his bed”? It could mean that during the night he dreams about things that truly make him… you know, and then he wakes up to… well, the meaning of the term wet dreams.

“But your gift is wasted on me” - In my point of view this part means that Harry’s internal She is the one who writes the lyrics, composes songs, but Harry’s outside (he) is the one who takes credit for it.

“I was thinking about who you are” - Same meaning of Harry’s lyrics in She when he says “I don’t know who she is”, that basically means he doesn’t know who this side of him is, but he’s trying to figure out.

“Your delicate point of view” - This one just made me emotional. It could be read as his internal She being sweet, timid and delicate.

“I’m not worried about where you are and who you go home to” - I can’t really think of something, just maybe he doesn’t have to worry because she’s safe with him?

“I’m just thinking about you, just thinking about you” - Again, thinking.

“Did you dress up for a halloween” - This is so loud because Halloween is the day you can dress as anything and no one will judge you because theoretically is a costume. And the loudest thing: Harry did dress up for Halloween, he dressed up as Dorothy and Miley and Elton (thank you to those who pointed out I should add it here!) and that’s the thing - Harry didn’t dress up for Halloween, his internal She did because, on that day, she could be out, even if it was just on the way she dressed.

“I spilled beer on your friend, I’m not sorry” - In this part, remember what I said about his internal She getting dressed up for Halloween? Yes, she can get dressed up, but she can’t be the one out in the open. The one interacting with people, drinking with friends, is Harry. So, she didn’t spill the drink, Harry did, and maybe because he made a joke about his costume?

“A golf swing and a trampoline, maybe we’ll do this again” - I have no clue what it means, but maybe it could mean things he did while being in the open, letting his internal She out.

“Tracksuit and a ponytail” - I would add pictures of Harry in a ponytail and hair accessories, but this post would never end. Also, tracksuit and ponytail are exactly the sort of Harry we see when he’s out for runs.

“You hide the body, all that yoga gave you” - I think this could be talking about the clothes he wears, since he’s always wearing pants. This reminded me of Louis’ “I haven’t seen you in a dress before” and it’s exactly what I think he means. Perhaps the internal She wants to wear a dress and show off because she’s beautiful and does yoga, ha!

“Red wine and ginger ale, but you would make fun of me for sure” - Could mean that Harry would drink to try to forget her, but then he’d loosen himself and either let her show or his internal She (him himself) would judge him for trying to act manly.

“I disrespected you, jumped in feet first and landed too hard, broke a ankle, karma rules” - Basically means that at first, he disrespected his internal She, treated her roughly, ignored her, maybe even joked about her (people who make jokes to deal with trauma), but she wouldn’t leave and she kept coming back and turned into a paranoia, and so “karma rules”.

“You never saw my birthmark“ - A birthmark is something that you a born with, it’s something that remains with you. And so, the birthmark could mean his internal She, he was born with it and it’s a part of him he can’t change because it’s who he is. (Credits for my friend Newt for thinking of it).

In conclusion, I strongly believe it’s a continuation to She. In She, Harry doesn’t know who she is, just knows she’s there, he says “I don’t know who she is” and he’s not looking into it, doesn’t want to know, maybe is trying to ignore her. However in Little Freak, he says “I was thinking about who you are, your delicate point of view” which means he knows who she is, he knows what she’s like and he accepts it, he likes her. 

For me, this was an extremely emotional analysis to write because this is a delicate subject and I was constantly worried I’d write something that would offend him and her, but I think this is okay. 

Also, he disrespected her at first, this song is him describing the road of acceptance. I think he now accepts who he is, and I feel nothing but proud of him.

idk if you’re on twitter but there was this weird discourse that happened that made me realize how twitter has become tumblr 2.0. this writer for jezebel wrote an article comparing people who liked snape and kylo ren to people who glorify and romanticize school shooters and it’s just like why do we keep having to discuss this idea that...liking fictional villains IS NOT the same or even comparable to THAT. it’s honestly fucked up to even think that. i don’t even like snape or whatever but then the writer brought up kylo ren/reylo shippers and it’s just so aggravating that the “you can’t like villains because it means you support their actions IRL” keeps happening and it’s gotten worse on twitter tbh

Uhhh yeah not to be an asshole but I can’t help but notice that out of all of the multitude of super famous villains with enthusiastic fandoms that writer happened to pick characters that are not traditionally attractive. Like I completely agree that the notion that people who like villains are equal to people who like actual criminals is god awful but that really jumped out at me.

I must be a glutton for punishment because I actually watched Kinsey Schofield's 20 min interview w/Valentine Low. May this rant save you from making the same mistake:

Valentine Low & Kinsey Schofield just reminded me that the British press is in desperate need of a grief recovery workshop to let go of their palace manufactured PR image of Sparry, "the CONSERVATIONIST," and accept the REALITY: Sparry has ALWAYS been a member of the lost boys who never intend to grow up. He loves drugs, perverted soho house sex play pens, and living a secret lifestyle in San Francisco, CA. As we saw in the South Park Documentary, Sparry has always wanted to be left alone so he can just bang on his drums all day.

The British media needs to accept that they never knew the Sparry aka Prince Harry. Much like Fergie & Andrew: The Meghans are two (2) intellectually below average individuals who married in haste. Both their academic & professional work histories indicate that these two (2) immature adults, lack even the basic skills necessary to function in society without the help of a PR "machine" whose job is to clean up their messes and repeatedly rebrand them into more acceptable members of polite society. It's past time for Valentine Low and other UK journalists to admit that they never really knew Sparry. All their Diana goodwill should now be invested into the future of the BRF (the family of Prince William)

No amount of hoping for the best or "covering up" for Sparry's misdeeds can transform the moral rot in his character. They bought and sold the PR image manufactured by the palace. It was the paparazzi & other "undesirables" who had the misfortune of observing the REAL Sparry. They watched him mistreat drivers, security, staffers, etc long BEFORE he was seduced by MEgain.

V Low believes Sparry flew a helicopter! 😳 Come on! Too many REAL service members have spoken out about Sparry's military character and performance and there's nothing good about it.

Sparry, like his wife is also a liar and a bully. He's not intellectually bright, he never was... He even bullied his grandparents before the "spectacle," he bullied Meghan's father...we heard reports about seeking a left wing wife and his interest in living in the US----all before MEgain.

Low also thinks Sparry loves his children. Has Valentine Low ever seen the invisibles? No. He's transferred a PR image to a couple of never before seen kids and their so called father. A so-called "father" who is willing to destroy his brother's children (and the innocent children of other couples) through the spread of destructive lies, has zero interest in the REAL wellbeing of anyone's kids, least of all his own.

As for the Wife: her ability to earn a college degree as an American teenager/young adult without even the offer of an ACADEMIC scholarship means that she too is mediocre and overrated. Her university commencement program states that she was a candidate for a degree in "communications" NOT some whip smart area of study like biochemistry or engineering! 🤦‍♂️

As a university student, thanks to her dad's brother (mike), she spent a measly six (6) weeks in Argentina on an exchange program (paid by her father) until she failed an exam that would have allowed her to apply for (real) jobs in the States. An intellectual or any hard worker would have studied until she passed the test. Not Rachel Meghan Markle. If no one was willing to make an exception for her low marks, then she would whore her way up a series of ladders until she found someone dumb enough to give her a platform.

No, this is NOT a "smart" couple. This couple is a cautionary tale about how Water seeks it's own level: Sparry's mother and teachers did him a disservice, just as MEgain's father did her a disservice: SPARE the rod & SPOIL the child

Kinsey believes that MEgain is "smart" because she achieved a Duchess title. (What does this tell us about Kinsey's IQ. 🤦‍♂️😳)

MEgain became a "Duchess" because she was a professional "seductress" employeed by Markus Anderson & Soho House. Everything this couple achieves is smoke & mirrors based on TRANSACTIONAL relationships where they bully & harass anyone standing in their way.

They don't even possess good work ethics, let alone above average IQs. Please call a spade a spade (or in this case a spare a spare) and stop gaslighting the public about what Sparry could have done had he not been involved with the wife.

We watched the wife verbally abuse KP staffers over bereavement flowers and feckless Sparry stood by in AGREEMENT. Wicked queen Jezebel 2.0 and traitorous king ahab 2.0. Let them go!

Sorry, long post ahead: I am so proud of this costume. I’ve been wanting to cosplay as Jezebel Jack for a good while and having finally done it I feel a sense of accomplishment, pride, and plain ol’ glee. A lot of people haven’t seen Pirates of the Plain and that’s alright. I happened to see it because I was searching for Tim Curry movies I hadn’t seen on Amazon one night, and this gem came up. After deciding to watch it on a whim, I quickly fell in love with this delightfully silly character. Anyway, this was a labor of love (and plenty of frustration), and it continues to be a work in progress. But I’m proud of where I’m at with it currently, and I hope one day I’ll get this costume to resemble its inspiration even more closely. Trying to get this con-ready proved to be stressful, but at the end of the day it proved to be all worth it. I’m so happy I got to wear this to FanX to meet Tim again. He told me how pretty my coat looked and asked if I had made it myself. Then he took my hand for the full duration of our time together as we spoke. I told him how much I loved his work and his music. He thanked me and said he might even be working on a new album! Can you believe? I told him how excited I was at that news and that I would be looking forward to it since I enjoyed his last one so much. He thanked me again. I love him. Photos to come soon. Back to the costume, I already can’t wait to break this bad boy out again at the first opportunity, but this time as Jezzy Jack 2.0.

Many intriguing tidbits about The Handmaid’s Tale’s second season have been confirmed, but how the book ends opens the floodgates as to what more we can expect from future episodes. Having just read (and then reread) the chilling epilogue from Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel, I’m practically bursting with anticipation as to how the show’s writers will spin the drama.

While the biggest plot points from the book have already played out in season one, what happens in the epilogue has yet to appear in the show. If the show stays true to its source material, here’s what plot developments might occur in season two (and possibly beyond).

Gilead Expands Its Influence

According to the epilogue, Gilead redraws the map of the world, especially in the North American hemisphere. We know Gilead is planning on trading handmaids in Mexico, but in the novel, it’s mentioned that Canada begins to comply with Gilead, aiding in rounding up and extraditing refugees.

My theory: If this plays into the plot of season two, Luke (O-T Fagbenle) and Moira (Samira Wiley) are once again at risk of being shipped back to Gilead. In the book, June (played by Elisabeth Mossin the TV adaptation) says she never sees Moira again after the run-in at the Jezebel’s sex club, which may foreshadow that Moira will either die (possibly trying to save Hannah or June), or she’ll venture on to England, which is the only remaining safe haven for refugees, according to the epilogue.

June Records Her Account

The epilogue reveals that June’s story (everything that occurred in season one) is from 30 audiotapes she recorded, recounting her experience as a Gilead handmaid. They were found in a home that was used as a safe house for refugees on the run near the Canadian border, so perhaps season two will go into the details of where exactly June recorded the tapes and for what purpose. The story on the cassettes ceases after June is hauled away by the Eyes.

My theory: Since the tapes aren’t numbered, my guess is more tapes exist; that is, unless June was abruptly recaptured and unable to record more of her tale. What occurs to June after recording tape 30 is purely speculative — i.e. Atwood left her fate open-ended, enabling TV writers to have a field day divulging these juicy mysteries.

A New Resistance Movement Is Introduced

We’ve heard a lot about Mayday, but the buzzy resistance group mentioned repeatedly in the epilogue is the Underground Femaleroad, responsible for rescuing women out of Gilead. The epilogue claims these two groups were connected but had different missions. Mayday was “quasi-military,” while the Underground Femaleroad was a “rescue operation.” Since June’s tapes are found in the UF safe house in Maine, it leads them to believe UF helped smuggle June out of the country (although the success of her escape remains up in the air). However, since there are no other diaries or recordings from that area, the leaders and/or participants of this group may have been discovered by the Eyes and arrested.

My theory: We know June is motivated to stay alive (obviously) and avoid The Wall. Simultaneously, she wants to escape Gilead, take down the theocracy, and save her daughter. These big, conflicting wants are likely come to a head in season two, where June must shape and break alliances that determine her fate. June commits herself to the Mayday group in season one, so it will be interesting to learn how (or if) she becomes connected to the UF.

The Great Purge Occurs

June’s time as a handmaid is considered the early period of Gilead. The epilogue also describes a middle period, in which Gilead’s founding fathers are tried and executed in a “Great Purge.” In the “earliest purge,” Commander Waterford is accused of “liberal tendencies,” possessing “heretical pictorial and literary materials” (Scrabble, magazines, etc.), and “harboring a subversive.” We don’t know who the subversive is (June or Nick, which could lead to another plot twist), but we do know the Commander’s execution is publicly recorded and televised in England.

My theory: The epilogue says June was “certain to be interrogated,” so perhaps in the opening episode of season two, June is instrumental in stripping the Commander (Joseph Fiennes) of his power. However, his disgruntled wife, Serena Joy (Yvonne Strahovski), could also play a role. The first season foreshadows Waterford’s nervousness growing when Putnam’s wife requests her husband receive the harshest form of punishment after leading handmaid Janine on.

We see a little bit of Nick’s past in season one, witnessing his allegiance to Gilead grow and shift to June and his unborn child. The epilogue mentions he could be part of the Mayday resistance and working as a double agent. Season two may uncover his true loyalty, if he’s instrumental in rescuing June, and whether he survives or sacrifices himself. Does he become part of Gilead’s 2.0 leadership, end up on The Wall, or find a safe haven in England with June and the baby?

The Futures of June and America Are Two Big Question Marks

The epilogue’s series of unanswerable questions may uncover plot developments in season two. Is June smuggled over the border of Gilead? Does she have a stint at the Colonies or Jezebel’s? Does she end up on The Wall? Does she get recaptured while fleeing, or does she make it all the way to Canada or England? Does she carry her baby to term? Does she reconnect with Luke and her daughter? If she escapes, why doesn’t she go public with her story in other countries? Who is she hiding from? Does she go crazy and become a recluse?

My theory: The epilogue speculates about June’s fate and raises questions about Gilead’s demise by omission. Why isn’t the “end” period of the theocracy discussed? Does Mayday take over and slaughter the population? The group of professors, gathering to discuss the history of this “handmaid’s tale” and its validity, appear enraptured yet uninformed about Gilead’s beliefs and common practices. Who are these people? Were their grandparents part of Gilead? Based on the repetitive, demeaning comments made about women and the group clapping when the professor refuses to denounce Gileadean ethics, what the hell is this weird future “democracy” that replaces Gilead, and who are its citizens? Clearly we’re all just going to have to wait and see.

THE PERSONAL-ESSAY BOOM IS OVER

...While she granted that not all first-person writing on the Internet was undignified, there were far too many “solo acts of sensational disclosure” that read like “reverse-engineered headlines.” ... there’s a specific sort of ultra-confessional essay, written by a person you’ve never heard of and published online, that flourished until recently and now hardly registers. The change has happened quietly, but it’s a big one: a genre that partially defined the last decade of the Internet has essentially disappeared.

what happened? To answer that, it helps to consider what gave rise to the personal essay’s ubiquity in the first place. Around 2008, several factors converged. In preceding years, private blogs and social platforms—LiveJournal, Blogspot, Facebook—trained people to write about their personal lives at length and in public. As Silvia Killingsworth, who was previously the managing editor of The New Yorker and took over the Awl and the Hairpin last year, put it to me, “People love to talk about themselves, and they were given a platform and no rules.” Then the invisible hand of the page-view economy gave them a push: Web sites generated ad revenue in direct proportion to how many “eyeballs” could be attracted to their offerings, and editorial budgets had contracted in the wake of the recession. The forms that became increasingly common—flashy personal essays, op-eds, and news aggregation—were those that could attract viral audiences on the cheap.

The boom in personal essays—at Salon, at least, but I suspect other places—was in part a response to an online climate where more content was needed at the exact moment budgets were being slashed.”  ...   But an ad-based publishing model built around maximizing page views quickly and cheaply creates uncomfortable incentives for writers, editors, and readers alike. Attention flows naturally to the outrageous, the harrowing, the intimate, and the recognizable, and the online personal essay began to harden into a form defined by identity and adversity—not in spite of how tricky it is to negotiate those matters in front of a crowd but precisely because of that fact.
