Some decent spookums, but between the general lack of narrative focus and an utterly apathetic protagonist, this doesn't do much for me. The ghost wig really got my hopes up, but, alas...

Queen of Tears

This series is not perfect, but it is still good. It has a solid storyline, and great characters. Hong Hae In and Baek Hyun Woo have been married for 3 years and the love that had united them at the beginning seems to have disappeared in their distance and silence after a miscarriage that broke their hearts. When Baek Hyun Woo finally has the courage to present the divorce papers to Hong Hae In, she tells him she has a tumor and doesn't have much time left. His decision to stay with her gives them an unexpected chance at finding that love that had united them once. Family interactions between their very different families questions dynamics and help characters grow.

I like the fact that they didn't take the easy way out with our main antagonist. The story in itself is really good and I loved it, however, production was a bit careless with details that were too big to miss: Hae In's operation - how can a person with a brain tumor have a surgery with her hair intact. Or Hyun Woo's neck injury suddenly disappearing in a second, ext. These kind of details show some careless oversight. But we can forgive them - we laugh it off and keep watching to see what happens next.

I liked it and recommend it.

Wedding Impossible: eps 1 & 2 are great, especially Jun Jung-seo as A-jeong, who gives her all into her craft even if the returns are so paltry. The first 2 eps build up the situation between her and Do-han into a fascinating hotbed of conflict, and I was onboard. Then ep 4 pissed away all that goodwill, in record speed. Why would A-jeong, who takes pride in acting, let Ji-han publicly woo her in Busan when she’s supposed to be his brother’s fiancé? And why was Do-han sectioned away in the story, prevented from knowing this? Ji-Han jerking around A-jeong, A-jeong letting him do it, it all felt old-school, and I don’t mean that as a compliment. And Moon Sang-min still needs another year playing supporting roles so he can build up a deck of facial expressions. Will watch a couple more eps, just in case it gets better.

Queen of Tears: I’ve already talked a lot about this one. Technically, everything is well done, but man, I don’t care for that romance. The drama is at its best and most sincere when it’s being funny, and despite being oddly underused, the supporting cast are really holding everything together. I don’t get why you would create a world where Kwak Dong-yeon and Lee Joo-bin are a couple and not talk more about that. I want to see more of everyone that isn’t Hyun-woo. But I’m obsessed with how good Kim Ji-won is.

The red sleeve: So brilliant, even when it’s bad lol. I’m a Junho stan til I die, and Lee Se-young is a very dear addition to my ever growing list of favourite actresses. The script is delicious. Eps 8 & 9 are like, really bad though. Awful. What a waste of Court Lady Jo’s character, and a gorgeous Park Ji-young performance. It’s a choice to make a group of women who, verbatim, “want to choose their own king”, look like deviants. But between spoilers & reading about Consort Ui, it looks like the story is still going to come to the same conclusion as those women - that the monarchy are parasitic (even those that are good faith actors), extorting mental & physical labour from an underclass of powerless women. Makes no sense to suddenly go, “but these ladies took it too far!!” Lol, be serious. But taking them seriously might’ve complicated how we see Deok-im’s unwavering certainty in Yi-san’s ability to rule. Each time she throws herself into the line of fire for him, I get a little sad. Love her and Yi-san tho. Now, that’s romance.

Jun Han is the most romantic member of Xdinary Heroes. Romance is really his thing, he’s at the top of his game there. He can make his lover swoon from his romantic gestures and acts of service. He’s the master of courtesy and seduction and every new romantic relationship is a reason for him to celebrate and reach the sky. Jun Han is a true Prince Charming when it comes to love. He can win the heart of anyone he desires like if he put a love spell on them. On the other hand, a breakup can be truly devastating for Jun Han, especially for his ego. He might feel very miserable about it and it takes him a good while to heal his self-esteem.

Jungsu - 32 Marine Life, 3 of Cups

Jungsu is the second most romantic member of Xdinary Heroes. He’s really a ray of sunshine when it comes to romance and he’s a playful romantic. He might not be the demon of lust but he’s a real companion to his lover. He’s not only their sweetheart but also a best friend. He literally takes on any role his lover is currently in need of. He’s supportive, caring and has original ideas on how to spend time together. He knows he needs more practice but it’s not his current priority. He might give a cold and detached impression. His heart beats for the other person but he doesn’t know how to let them know and simply focuses on what he’s good at, which is work. Breakup is something he usually expects and he’s not really surprised or devastated by it. He takes it as it is, maybe spends some time alone to lick his wounds and then go back to work.

Jooyeon - 1 North, 7 of Swords

Jooyeon is the least romantic member of Xdinary Heroes. Not that he wouldn’t ever fall in love but he’s not likely to see it as his life’s purpose. He focuses on other things and can’t be bothered by romance. It’s also possible he’s had a bad experience with romantic relationships when he felt being manipulated through his feelings and used. Jooyeon is not likely to fall in love easily and he’s not likely to express his feelings openly. When he senses like the relationship is closing to its end, he will be the one to break up with his lover in order to avoid being jilted.
