Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) “View of Houses in Delft, Known as The Little Street” oil on canvas c. 1660 Photo is taken by: @robertpuffjr This is an unusual painting in Vermeer's oeuvre, and remarkable for its time as a portrait of ordinary houses. The composition is as exciting as it is balanced. The old walls with their bricks, whitewash, and cracks are almost tangible. The location is Vlamingstraat 40-42 in Delft. Vermeer's aunt Ariaentgen Claes lived in the house at the right, with her children, from around 1645 until her death in 1670. (This writeup is taken from the description at the museum.) Painting has a long history filled with incredible artists. However, some stand out from the rest and have left a lasting impact that extends far beyond their lifetime, and Vincent van Gogh is one of those figures in art history. Our team at Cre8iveSkill has always been at the forefront when it comes to celebrating such artists and giving their greatest masterpieces an extra push. To celebrate World Art Day, our embroidery digitizers digitized and beautifully recreated two of Vincent van Gogh's most famous paintings.
Don't you think this is the best way to honor one of the most prominent figures in the history of art?

Johannes Vermeer, a Dutch painter from the 17th century, left an indelible mark on the art world with his masterful use of light and colour. His work captures the essence of the Dutch Golden Age and continues to inspire artists and art lovers alike.
Born in Delft, Netherlands in 1632, Vermeer was a relatively unknown artist during his lifetime, but his legacy has endured for centuries. He is perhaps best known for his genre paintings, which depict everyday life in 17th-century Holland with remarkable detail and a sense of intimacy.
Vermeer's use of light is particularly notable in his work. His paintings are bathed in a soft, diffused light that seems to come from within the canvas itself. This effect is achieved through the use of glazes and thin layers of paint, creating a luminous quality that is both ethereal and tangible.
One of Vermeer's most famous works, "Girl with a Pearl Earring," is a prime example of his mastery of light. The painting depicts a young woman with a pearl earring, her face turned slightly towards the viewer. The earring catches the light, casting a warm glow on the woman's face and illuminating her features. The painting has become an icon of Western art and has inspired countless reproductions and interpretations.
Vermeer's legacy is not just in his technical skill, but also in his ability to capture the essence of Dutch society at the time. His genre paintings depict the daily lives of ordinary people, from milkmaids to musicians, with a sense of intimacy and familiarity. These works offer a window into a bygone era and provide a glimpse of the social and cultural norms of the time.
Perhaps Vermeer's greatest legacy is his influence on other artists. His use of light and colour has inspired countless painters, including the Impressionists and Post-Impressionists. The soft, luminous quality of his work can be seen in the paintings of Monet, Renoir, and Van Gogh, among others.
In addition to his influence on other artists, Vermeer's work continues to captivate audiences today. His paintings are featured in museums around the world, including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., and the Louvre in Paris. His paintings are a testament to the power of art to transcend time and space and to connect us to the past and the present.
Vermeer's work is a celebration of the beauty and complexity of the world around us. His paintings remind us to pay attention to the small details of our lives and to appreciate the beauty that surrounds us. They remind us that even the most ordinary moments can be extraordinary if we take the time to look closely.
In the end, Vermeer's legacy is not just in his paintings, but in the way, his work continues to inspire and connect us. His paintings remind us of our shared humanity and our connection to the world around us. They remind us of the power of art to move us and to transform our lives. Vermeer may have been a relatively unknown artist during his lifetime, but his legacy is truly timeless.

Marcel Proust declared 'View of Delft' by Johannes Vermeer (1632–75) “the most beautiful painting in the world.” Indeed, viewers have been captivated by Vermeer's extraordinary art since the 19th-century rediscovery of the Dutch painter. Maps, an intricate fusion of art and science, held an important and multifaceted place in the Netherlands in the 17th century and were of particular interest to Vermeer. Of the approximately 34 paintings attributed to the Delft-based artist, wall maps and other cartographic objects are depicted in nine of them, including the masterpiece, 'The Art of Painting,' pictured here. With stunning reproductions and incisive text, 'Vermeer's Maps' is the most comprehensive study of the artist's depiction of wall maps to date. Drawing on rare surviving examples of the maps and other primary sources, author Rozemarijn Landsman examines this intriguing aspect of Vermeer’s work, greatly enriching and expanding our understanding of the art and life of the “Sphinx of Delft.” "The Art of Painting" (ca. 1666–68) features a version of Joannes van Doetecum and Claesz Jansz Visscher's 1954 'Map of the Seventeen Provinces of the Netherlands,' pictured here in detail. Published by @delmonico_books & @frickcollection Authored by Rozemarijn Landsman Read more about the book via linkinbio. #vermer #vermeersmaps #maps #cartography #johannesvermeer @roze_land #vermeerartofpainting #theartofpainting #artofpainting https://www.instagram.com/p/CovDDQvpAzH/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
