COMMUNITY REWATCH, 2x05: "Messianic Myths and Ancient Peoples"
-So, Duncan is just spending class time showing YouTube videos?
-I love how confused Pierce is by every video they watch, but hate how sad Shirley is.
-How come Britta is in charge of Pierce's diet?
-Oh no, Pierce is going to start hanging out with Leonard and his friends, isn't he? *sigh* This isn't going to be good.
-Oh Abed, this sounds incredibly complicated.
-That sound cue for "Abed" is so funny.
-Leonard: "Shut your mouth down, fruit." Dean Pelton: "Oh, hey, unacceptable and none of your business, and barely the whole truth." That was more than I needed to know, but I also have questions.....
-Pierce: "Excuse me, mister." Dean Pelton: "What Pierce?" Pierce: "What year is it?" DEAN PELTON YOU KNOW PIERCE! HOW COULD YOU FALL FOR THIS?!?!
-Britta: "Oops, Freudian slip. Perhaps due to my feeling dopey." Shirley: "Do the line, atheist." Damn Shirley.
Tumblr media
-I love how you can tell how much Troy and Britta don't want to do this.
-God, I love Abed's costume for his Jesus movie.
-Of course, Chang is involved in Abed's movie.
-The chorus of "Abed" as he is lifted into the air.
Tumblr media
-The fact that everyone is so immersed in Abed's movie is both hilarious and ridiculous.
-Damn, that woman was a bit harsh. You don't need to talk to Shirley like that, especially when Shirley is right.
-I love how Jeff and Britta start acting like Pierce's parents.
-Them all screaming in the car and then it cuts to the outside of the car to show the slowest crash ever is hilarious!!!!!
-Abed hating his film is so good.
-Shirley beating up all the equipment with the baseball bat to destroy the movie as a way to answer Abed's prayers is fantastic, but also how does she not get in trouble for destroying school property?
-Jeff acting like a disappointed father picking up his son from jail is great.
-This was a good Abed/Shirley episode.
-This ending scene is so dumb.

Nobody Lives Forever (Jean Negulesco, 1946)
Cast: John Garfield, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Walter Brennan, Faye Emerson, George Coulouris, George Tobias, Robert Shayne, Richard Gaines, Richard Erdman. Screenplay: W.R. Burnett, based on his novel. Cinematography: Arthur Edeson. Art direction: Hugh Reticker, Max Parker. Film editing: Rudi Fehr. Music: Adolph Deutsch. Changes of heart are always risky, especially in film noir, so when Nick Blake (John Garfield) falls in love with the rich widow Gladys Halvorsen (Geraldine Fitzgerald), who has been chosen as the mark in a con game, things get a little screwed up. Originally planned as a vehicle for Humphrey Bogart, Nobody Lives Forever benefits from Garfield's good looks, making the romantic twist a little more interesting. Jean Negulesco, better known for glossy romance than for noir, handles the material well, especially the climactic shootout.

BA (Hons) Philosophy and the Catholic Tradition at Maryvale Institute Reading List
This list is very long, so I am putting it under a read more.  There was a pdf, but a lot of that contains information like exam dates, module guides, assessment details etc that aren’t relevant. I’ve put all the module titles, and the information they gave for their reading list.
Hopefully this is of use to anyone that’s interested in looking into Catholicism, Philosophy, Theology, or is looking to do a degree in philosophy and/or religion. Please do excuse any typos, I did have to type up a lot of this myself.

365 Day Movie Challenge (2019) - #50: Nobody Lives Forever (1946) - dir. Jean Negulesco
Eddie Muller chose Nobody Lives Forever as one of his recent picks for TCM’s Saturday night “Noir Alley,” but this Warner Brothers crime drama is a disappointment for just about everybody involved. I expect a lot out of director Jean Negulesco, who proved his dramatic chops with Humoresque, Deep Valley and Road House; similarly, screenwriter W.R. Burnett (adapting from his own novel I Wasn’t Born Yesterday) had penned either the source material or the screenplays for such hard-boiled films as Little Caesar, High Sierra and This Gun for Hire. And, of course, star John Garfield was one of Hollywood’s elite players in the mid-to-late 1940s, on top of his game with such classics as The Postman Always Rings Twice, the aforementioned Humoresque, Body and Soul, Gentleman’s Agreement and Force of Evil. So the fact that Nobody Lives Forever is such a bust is frankly kind of hard to explain.
Garfield plays Nick Blake, a World War II vet and experienced con man who has recently returned to the States after serving his country in Italy. Upon landing in New York, Nick finds that his girlfriend, Toni Blackburn (perennial “other woman” Faye Emerson), has been two-timing him and lost all his money in some bad investments. Bitter over being double-crossed in such a way, Nick takes a “vacation” to Los Angeles and it doesn’t take much for him to be convinced to take part in a new venture organized by Doc Ganson (George Coulouris, chewing the scenery expertly). Nick, accompanied by his buddy Al Doyle (George Tobias), sets out to seduce widow Gladys Halvorsen (Geraldine Fitzgerald) out of her considerable fortune. Nick doesn’t anticipate falling for Gladys, however, and their sudden love affair poses a threat to the couple as Doc Ganson and his associates get antsy about cashing in on their scheme.
As fine an actress as Geraldine Fitzgerald was, she seems ill-suited to play her role, a little too mild-mannered for such a potentially gritty tale. (Remember, 1946 was the same year that Ava Gardner starred in The Killers and Rita Hayworth embodied the title role in Gilda.) The only real saving grace in the film is her acting and the performances by her peers, who also include Walter Brennan as another of Nick’s acquaintances, Richard Gaines as Gladys’s financial advisor and Richard Erdman as a bellboy with the inside scoop on Nick’s criminal history. With so many talented entertainers, one would think that Nobody Lives Forever would be a guaranteed hit, but its story is full of plot holes and with the exception of its climactic scenes of gunplay on a foggy LA pier, the film rarely attains a true noir mood. From the beginning up until the closing scene, it’s a struggle to take this film seriously.

Doris Day (3/04/1922 - 13/05/2019)
Tumblr media
Iba a cumplir noventa años.
Asunción Balaguer (8/11/25 - 23/11/19)
Tumblr media
