that constant nagging of ambition and fear of stagnancy literally rules my life. sometimes it paralyzes me and i end up barely doing anything for the day and sometimes it energizes me. the need to get better, the need to improve skills, and the need to reinvent myself. it still shocks me that the average person doesn’t feel this ache to BECOME. to evolve. to flourish. to kickstart a metamorphosis every month. hell, maybe every week. like who am i without gutting my wardrobe or deciding a new career path? idk. but at least I’m another skill smarter, another look hotter, and another business wealthier. better than nothing at all.

Today I decided I didn't want to set an alarm and I am happy I did that, I got a bit more sleep but I still managed to be productive. In the morning I got done more than I had planned, which makes me very happy. I then went to my brother's for lunch and to spend the afternoon together rewatching the hobbit movies. We watched a movie and a half and we'll finish sometime next week. I am really happy about the fact that lately we have been having these movie afternoons because ever since he moved out we have not been spending a lot of time together and I really missed it. I hope we can make this a sort of an habit to spend more time together like we used to when he was still living here.

read and annotated the Merchant Of Venice (I finished the third act so next week I will be able to finish my first reread and move on to other tasks like finding articles to help writing my paper)

started looking for a couple of articles for my paper (and I have yet to find out if I can access them with my uni credentials but that is a next week task)

did a quick monthly set up in my bullet journal to write down all the things I have to do next month (I have to get back into using my bullet journal since I have not been using it for a few months now, and I haven't find the perfect system for this period of my life yet)

I had an ochem test yesterday (haven't received the results yet), now I have another ochem test in a little less than two weeks... I can't wait to be done with this class. We had a substitute lab instructor last week though and she complimented my work which really did make ochem more bearable for those couple of hours.

27.04.2024 // I read halfway through Kate Eichhorn'sThe Archival Turn in Feminism: Outrage in Order while soaking up the sun in the deck.

Eichhorn's seminal work on feminist archives of feminist organising and feminist archiving practices is quite useful to me. But it always amazes me how scholars theorising from and about the West use such universalising and generalising language.The Archival Turn is about specific zines and other cultural materials produced by girls and young women in the US. Yet, due to the title, one might think that there was an archival turn in Feminism™ across geographical, sociocultural and political contexts at the same time.

5 common words my Chinese classes and textbooks didn't teach

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy learning with classes and textbooks. But no single resource or method can teach you the entire language! Here are 5 words (do particles count as words?) I see/hear all the time in native content that I never learned from classes or textbooks. Looking back, I'm surprised these weren't taught!

不仅 | 不僅 bùjǐn - not only (or 不仅仅 | 不僅僅 bùjǐnjǐn)

即 jí - namely / that is / i.e.

平时 | 平時 píngshí - ordinarily / in normal times

稍 shāo - somewhat / a little

请稍等。 说到这儿，他稍停了停。

呗 | 唄 bei - modal particle indicating lack of enthusiasm / modal particle indicating that things should only or can only be done a certain way

PS: I actually checked the textbooks I used in college to confirm that these weren't covered. But of course they could have been included in your textbooks.

got to visit my favorite off-campus cafe! it's a 30 minute bus ride from my apartment and doesn't have great wifi, but the trek is always worth it

got through content revision for 3 chapters of human physiology for my exam on tuesday

was at the cafe from 11am-5pm

came home, did some chores around the apartment, and got ready for my friend's 21st birthday party! bc work-life balance
