#Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard
Text
Something that really pisses me off about the Amber Heard Johnny Depp situation that I never articulated is how it demonstrated people’s lack of shame in blatantly moving the goal post in believing women who are sexually/physically assaulted.
At first, when people wanted to defend the fact that they don’t believe victims, it was “well, *insert name of man accused* would never do that, it’s not in his character. He’s a good guy who hasn’t hurt anyone, so I find this unbelievable. He doesn’t even hang out in bad crowds either.”
Yet Depp was known to be an awful person by the people he worked around. He was known to be an alcoholic who struggled with drinking too much and getting really mean after drinking. He’s literally even friends with people of the likes of Marilyn Manson. Yet, people did not take this as a reason to consider not praising Depp and humiliating Heard during the trials.
Then people started turning to “well, I’m not gonna believe just one woman, because she could have any motive to want to do this to hurt someone, but if there are multiple women accusing the man then it’s believable.”
Yet, multiple people, including SOs & coworkers/past employees of Depp have described his yelling, physically harmful and intimidating behavior, and emotional abuse. However, this didn’t stop anyone from praising him and humiliating Heard.
Then it became “well, let me at least see some proof, like texts or pictures of injuries. Then I will believe you.” Both of these things came out proving Depp to be a terrible person - I mean what kind of person says over text that they desire to r*pe a woman’s [Heard’s] dead body if not the type of person to be abusive? Yet, no one took this as a clue that they might be wrong for riding for Depp and tearing down Heard.
[edit] I also want to add that it seems like our goal post has moved fully to “well if a woman has a shit ton of proof to demonstrate that she was abused by a man, I’m not going to believe her until she can somehow prove that she was never abusive to him” like?? That’s like telling someone to prove that there is no invisible flying pink elephant in the room. If no one has accused her of abuse, why would she need to, and how would she be able to, prove that she has never been abusive? And this will never get applied to male celebrities who accuse a woman of being abusive jsyk.
Here’s my hypothesis: two groups exist among these goal post movers, being 1) those who will decide to believe the man under any circumstance unless they are literally physically present to see the abuse happening, and 2) those who DO believe that the man is abusive [regardless of public ally pretending that they don’t] and just simply do not care that they are abusive.

So...People who are convinced that Amber Heard was the abuser and Johnny Depp was the victim, who ALSO think Camille Vasquez's spritzing Johnny Depp's cologne in the women's bathroom that Amber Heard would use in court is a "brilliant" tactic. I want to hear from you. How do you square this? If Heard was the abuser, what would make that a good tactic? Why would that be "psychological warfare" as Vasquez put it? How does that work, in your minds?
To be clear, I'm not asking Depp supporters who know Heard was abused and are happy about it. I'm not asking Depp supporters who are going to argue that because Vasquez said "may" that it didn't happen. I'm specifically asking Depp supporters who think that Heard was the abuser AND think Vasquez's tactics were good.
Hell, I'd love to hear from Vasquez herself how she squared that, but that's unlikely.
So! Please explain.

Just a random thought. But man, I wish I could relive 2022 again. That year had some great highlights for me personally.
The Johnny Depp & Amber trial. I literally felt like I was a lawyer the way I didn’t go anywhere without watching it. Johnny’s one liners.. killed me. A MEGA PINT.. HEARSAY… 😂 literally bought merch, stickers. I was ready to drive to the courthouse just to see him.
Stranger Things… mannnn I fucking sobbed like a baby watching that season. Running Up That Hill was definitely on repeat everyday, LMFAOO.
Top Gun.. I’m not even into shit like that but I watched the first one for first time bc of the hype and I’m like okay.. Then saw the second one and I was on the edge of my seat. 10/10
THEN THE FUCKING ELVIS MOVIE.
Where do I even begin??! Shit has had me in a chokehold since June. I never expected to fall so in love with Elvis, that now when I’m having a bad day or if I’m depressed (which has been on high lately) he’s literally my comfort for everything. I immediately feel bad and can’t help but smile. If I hear a song, watch one of his books, read a book about him. I’m just happy. Even writing fanfic has become my fave bc of him, lol.
Is it an unhealthy obsession?? Probably because I dead stopped using dating apps, haven’t looked at another person bc mentally I’m dating Elvis. I need help. 🤷🏽‍♀️😂
Anyway, this was just something I was thinking about. Idk.

So I literally tried to watch Amber Heard's new movie In The Fire and it was so boring I turned it off halfway through. Also, watching Amber Heard try to act is like watching teenage girls in a school play try to act, and think their killing it.
No wonder she doesn't (and definitely won't now) get big Hollywood movie roles. I 100% percent believe Johnny got her the role in Aquaman. No way she got it on her own lol. She sucks.

amber heard weight before vs during/after her relationship with johnny depp
Depp would often call her “fat” during arguments, leading to her losing a significant amount of weight which her friends and family noticed at the time. She is said to have weighed around 100 pounds in the bottom pictures.
The weight loss resulted in her developing a heart condition and she would express fear that she would have a heart attack. In one audio Amber asks Johnny to feel her heart for palpitations, in which he responds “deal with your own fuxking heart”.

Was cleaning my apartment while listening to that channel's videos on Depp vs Heard. Probably shouldn't have listened to that all within a short period of time because I'm upset now. I know she seems to be doing okay now, but fuck. I'm so angry for her. I'm linking the videos here in order. Don't do what I did. Space them out.

seeing j*hnny d*pp fold like a paper crane after amber’s appeal, and instead settle for $1m which her insurance will cover, meaning she doesn’t give him a cent, PLUS no admission of guilt, PLUS no restrictions on her being able to talk about the case...  i used to pray for times like this. ❤️

(Open letter linked below)
“More than 130 people, including Gloria Steinem, and organizations in the field of women’s rights advocacy and domestic violence and sexual assault awareness have signed an open letter to support Amber Heard, who lost a defamation suit this year brought by her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, for an op-ed in which she said she was a “public figure representing domestic abuse.”
The letter, which was exclusively shared with NBC News ahead of its public release Wednesday, was signed by groups like the National Organization for Women, the National Women’s Law Center, Equality Now and the Women’s March Foundation. It was written by a group of people who identify as domestic violence survivors and supporters of Heard.
Heard filed a brief last month laying the groundwork to appeal a seven-person jury’s decision in Virginia’s Fairfax County Circuit Court to award Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages in June. Heard, who had countersued, was awarded $2 million in compensatory damages but nothing in punitive damages.
Although The Washington Post essay never mentioned Depp by name, Depp’s attorneys said it indirectly referred to allegations Heard made against him during their 2016 divorce. During the trial, she testified in graphic terms about a sexual assault she alleged, as well as allegations of incidents of physical abuse. Depp denied all allegations of abuse.
The letter, which denounces the “rising misuse” of defamation lawsuits to silence people who report domestic and sexual abuse, is one of the biggest public shows of support for Heard after months of silence from many groups after the verdict.
Representatives for both Depp and Heard declined to comment.
The jury’s decision was a legal vindication for Depp, who lost a libel case in the United Kingdom two years ago over claims that he had physically abused Heard. Justice Andrew Nicol ruled against Depp in 2020, saying a British tabloid had presented substantial evidence to show that Depp was violent against Heard on at least 12 of 14 occasions.
After the June verdict, activists called out other groups, like Time’s Up, asking why an organization that had championed victims at the height of the #MeToo movement was now silent. Many who did speak out in support of Heard, including the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, were met with ferocious backlash from Depp’s supporters online.
A spokesperson for the group behind the letter, who asked to remain anonymous because of the online harassment she has faced for posting in support of Heard, said she believes that after the trial “individuals were afraid to speak out because they saw what was happening to the few who had.”
The letter says the “ongoing online harassment” of Heard and her supporters was “fueled by disinformation, misogyny, biphobia, and a monetized social media environment where a woman’s allegations of domestic violence and sexual assault were mocked for entertainment.”
The vilification and harassment of Heard and her supporters were “unprecedented in both vitriol and scale,” the letter says.
Kathy Spillar, the executive director of the Feminist Majority Foundation, said her organization signed the letter after it observed what she called a “growing backlash” against women who speak out against perpetrators of sexual assault, domestic violence and intimate partner violence.
“If this can happen to Amber Heard, it will discourage other women from speaking up and even filing reports about domestic violence and sexual assault,” Spillar said.
The letter says the verdict and the online response to Heard “indicate a fundamental misunderstanding of intimate partner and sexual violence and how survivors respond to it.”
In addition to two dozen feminist organizations, more than 90 domestic violence experts and survivors’ advocates from around the world signed the letter to “condemn the public shaming of Amber Heard and join in support of her.” They include doctors, lawyers, professors, authors and activists.
Others who signed the letter echoed their concerns that reaction to the trial on social media was harmful to everyday victims of domestic violence.
“They see the environment that this has created, and they feel even less safe than before to come forward and speak out about the abuse they suffered,” said Elizabeth Tang, the senior counsel for education and workplace justice at the National Women’s Law Center.
Tang said abusers can use defamation suits to “silence their victims” or as retaliation against their victims for speaking out.
Tang said that among the “reasons we felt it was very important to join this letter” are that “when courts do not dismiss these defamation suits in early stages, it creates a lot of trauma for victims to have to go through a very long, drawn-out and invasive process just to prove that the things they said are true or that they did not defame the person they reported.”
Christian F. Nunes, the national president of the National Organization for Women, said she hopes the letter is a reminder that the court system should never be used to strong-arm victims to recant statements about their abuse.
“We cannot silence victims by using courts and lawsuits as a way to retraumatize them, because this is what’s happening,” Nunes said. She said she hopes the letter raises awareness of new tactics some abusers use against their victims, such as social media campaigns.
Since the trial, there has been more public support for Heard on social media, the spokesperson for the group behind the letter said. She and other anonymous Heard supporters had been “working to combat disinformation for months” when they joined for the open letter initiative.
Experts said they had a unanimous message they hoped to send to survivors who read the letter.
“It is also a way to speak to all survivors and tell them, ‘You are not alone,’” Tang said.”

Really took everything in my soul to not run out of my workplace today to go outside and breathe and not to panic because of Depp vs Amber documentary showing up on Netflix today. It's one thing for the trial to have aired last year, and yes, people can still go online and see the unconscionable attacks against Amber on YouTube and social media. But for Netflix to make it a permanent apart of their collection as a "documentary" with no experts making a case of anything for Amber, to basically let viewers at home take part in reliving the trial and getting their jollies thinking he was the abused party as the judge and jury all over again- is extremely triggering for survivors of abuse like myself. All we are told and shown is that no matter what we say, who we talk to, the amount of evidence we have, is not enough to be believed when it should be. There's no amount of words to put into how we struggle with not gaslighting ourselves about the abuse we endured because that's what our abusers taught us to do, let alone move about in the world where one of the strongest and what-should've-been clearest displays of abuse is met with more gaslighting on every social media platform, every google search, every comment section who dare says Depp is the victim - he is not. And for him to sit back, relax, doodle, eat gummy bears in a room full of his fans, and the world humiliating Amber, is so triggering to the amount of times my abuser would treat me and my family like shit behind closed doors and then pretend he was the nicest caring person in front of anyone else. There are so many signs of genuine PTSD I recognized in Amber giving her testimony. The bravery she had to sit on her own in a room full of fans, knowing almost everyone online supporedt him and stood outside the courtroom like it was a tailgating event, is unimaginable.
This should have not been regarded as a national pastime to go viral and hold onto nostalgia for a monster. I'm really begging everyone - look to survivors of abuse/assault for what is going with this trial and similar situations such as Megan Thee Stallion and FKA Twigs, and not watch this documentary. Please do not give Netflix the views or interest. Let it tank. Let it fail. Let them know that it's not wanted. Because this should not be wanted.
