15 and 16 for Casey for the Saints Row Boss ask meme thing 💙
Ooh thank you I'm excited to get these again!
Boss ask meme
15. Are there any small things about them in the canon that you've really run with in your headcanon?
This is a question I recall really wanting someone to ask me when I made this meme and it's taken so long I've forgotten half of what I wanted to say 🤣
I'm going to go with what I still remember though I'm sure there's way more. Everyone knows I'm canon's bitch by this point. When I started my fanfic I wasn't thinking Matt x OC, I was thinking Matt and The Boss.
So I spent hours on wiki reading about The Boss, combined with what I remembered from actually playing, working in elements of a fitting backstory where I could, and that somehow made Casey. I kind of didn't realise she was an OC until tumblr 😅
Anyway, here are some of the results of that memory/research:
Likes Jane Austen, and the Brontës(male Boss mentions reading Jane Eyre a load of times). That somehow became her quoting it when she's drunk and with a lot of research bc that's really not my thing, drawing parallels between Emma and Mr. Knightley and Casey and Matt(but there's the odd Mr. Darcy joke too). God the fact I bought the Jane Austen collection and the Prose Edda (where the story of Ragnarok is from) to ship these two is not normal of me.
Doesn't like talking about life before the Saints/daddy issues.
I've used the whole 'Playa was originally called Mikey/Mickey" thing by making her middle name Michaiła and therefore Mikki bring one of her pseudonyms.
Somewhat interested in Nyte Blayde after Matt's mission(she's actually the one who appears on his couch at the time she knows he watches one time).
The idea that she rambles when she's emotional, particularly in the romantic sense, and that all of her partners will at some point have to shut her up with a kiss because of it, comes directly from the GatBoss romance scene. In fact the idea that she's not always the best at initiating physical contact even though she really wants/needs it kind of grew from that, too.
The whole going to a massage parlor way too young thing; there's a whole scene with a time-travelling Matt and Johnny seeing her come out of there.
Being bad with tech bc there are a few mentions in different games about that.
Liking robots when she was 6 is something that comes up a few times. I also ran with the fact that she and Matt are the only ones who call it "the robot".
Her voice mentions a therapist at times. I used that for at least one of the reasons she mellows out over time, especially between 2&3.
Surreal jokes such as "Asha, that light had a family."
I saw on the wiki that Boss is supposedly 6'2"; I made her 5'9" with 5 inch heels.
The fact the Boss uses the heavy pistol a lot in cutscenes is why her gold .45 Fletcher became her signature weapon.
As I say, there's probably way more! I don't want to make this so long that no-one reads it!
16. Is there anything from the games you've drastically avoided or downplayed in your headcanon?
This one I did actually answer before, but to summarise:
She's cis and even with the whole "she looked like a boy" claims, I've never made her in SR1's character creator (I do love some of the in game outfits for her though), plus I pretty much hc her always having her SR3/4 voice, just a little higher/more timid in 1.
She never went to college (referencing voice lines) because she dropped out of HS, though she did do some online study when she had time.
At the time I also said I didn't fill out her sr1-3 life much, but I have started to do that bit by bit. One I didn't mention for some reason:
SR3/4 Boss seems kind of stupid at times. Casey's pretty sharp tbh. She spends years hating that people underestimate her intelligence, but eventually kind of comes to terms with the fact that she's smart and that makes her kind of downplay it instead.
Recently, there's been more I've wanted to downplay for example:
I don't really like that I wrote in the Cyrus Temple thing. I like to think that's way downplayed, if she did have surgery for that it was minor, although that remains the time she decoded to stop getting plastic surgery for every scar and injury.
While GOOH kind of had to happen for a lot of my hc, I don't think it was quite like that(I can tell you for a fact Dex was not there for a start!). OK that's moving more from Casey to general universe but still 😅
I feel like there's more for both answers, but I guess I can always reblog with them later 😊

Saints Row Timeline Ideas
I was going to say confused ramblings under the cut, but somehow this turned into a very organised collection of sources. Don’t ask. I have no clue why my brain decided to do this.
I always thought Saints Row 2 took place in 2011 because it was five years after the first game (which is said to be set in 2006), but apparently it takes place in 2013. If we are judging from Chief Monroe’s commemorative plaque in the police headquarters saying he died in 2008, would that mean that Saints Row takes place over two years? And because Playa has been in a coma for five years, would that mean that Saints Row 2 takes place in 2013?
Saints Row: 2006 - 2008
Saints Row starts in the year 2006 with an unnamed character in the fictional island City of Stilwater. [x]
I don’t think I really need to list off sources for Saints Row starting, if not completely taking place, in 2006. It is shown in the manual through newspaper clippings of ‘Aisha’s New Single’ and ‘The Trojan Horse,’ as well as being mentioned multiple times on the wiki.
During the mission “Zero Saints Thirty” in Saints Row IV, the narrator also confirms 2006 as being the year the 3rd Street Saints started to gain notoriety in Stilwater.
“When the Saints made their presence known to the world in 2006, they were decried for being pretenders to the throne.” [x]
Where it gets confusing is when we see Chief Monroe’s commemorative plaque on display in the Police Headquarters in Saints Row 2. He is killed by Playa in the first game during “Hail to the Chief,” which I originally thought would’ve been in 2006, however his plaque states his death was in 2008. With that being said, I can only assume that the events of Saints Row take place roughly over two years.
Saints Row 2: 2013
If we are going off of the idea that “Saints and Martyrs” took place in 2008, then that would mean that Playa came out of their coma in 2013, five years after the explosion on Alderman Hughes’ yacht.
In terms of sources for Saints Row 2 taking place five years after the first game, there are a couple places that have said this. The first being the description on the back of the box of the game’s physical copy:
Five years have passed since your former Saints crew betrayed you. Seek revenge against rivals to reestablish yourself as the rightful king of Stilwater. [x]
Also mentioned a few times on the game’s wiki page, with the source being from the official Saints Row 2 website, which has since been shut down.
After the explosion of Alderman Richard Hughes private yacht in Saints Row, Playa falls into a coma for five years, and is kept in intensive care at Stilwater Penitentiary, receiving extensive plastic surgery due to burns suffered in the explosion. [x]
Something that does not necessarily relate to the year Saints Row 2 could’ve taken place, but is interesting nonetheless, is the discrepancy of when Johnny was arrested for attempting to assassinate Troy.
In the opening cutscene of “Appointed Defender,” Jane Valderamma reports from the courthouse where Johnny is being sentenced:
“A notorious member of a gang once known as ‘The 3rd Street Saints,’ Johnny Gat was arrested last year in an assassination attempt against then decorated police officer Troy Bradshaw.” [x]
If we are saying that Saints Row 2 takes place in 2013, then this would indicate that Johnny was arrested in 2012. However, dialogue with him contradicts this.
Playa: “How long were you in jail anyway?”
Johnny: “Two years and 31 days.” [x]
This would suggest he was actually arrested in 2011 rather than 2012. I am more inclined to go with 2011, solely because Johnny’s statement seems more plausible and concrete. The cutscene with Jane Valderamma reporting from the courthouse appears to just be for introductory purposes, and due to no actual dates being said, the use of “arrested last year” just seems to be more of a throw-away comment. Whereas Johnny offering his time spent in jail, down to the number of days, tells us he kept count and is possibly more accurate.
Due to not much information ever being given during the Ultor Exposed DLC, I’m assuming it takes place shortly after the main storyline.
The Corporate Warfare DLC also takes place sometime after the main story, I’m assuming within a few months, as Eric Gryphon has been appointed the new CEO of Ultor after Dane Vogel was killed by Playa.
With this all being said, I can still see 2011 (my original assumption) as being the year Saints Row 2 takes place. If we disregard that Chief Monroe apparently died in 2008, and leave Saints Row all happening in 2006, then five years later would place the second game in this time frame. Which leaves Johnny being arrested in either 2009 or 2010.
Saints Row: The Third: 2015
Multiple places on the wiki state that the third game takes place in 2014, but I personally cannot see this being the case if we are going with 2013 being when Saints Row 2 takes place, especially considering they also say “years after” the game’s events. Not to mention, they are basing this off of a conversation between Angel and Burt Reynolds where the year of Murderbrawl 13 is mentioned, which makes them assume that because of this, Murderbrawl 31 (which occurs during the game) must take place in 2014.
Angel: “It’s been a long time, Reynolds.”
Burt: “Do I know you?”
Angel: “Mexico, ‘96. Murderbrawl XIII.” [x]
I may be misremembering, but I don’t think it is ever explicitly stated that Murderbrawl is an annual event, so this basis cannot be confirmed. And this may be a reach (of course, this all kind of is at this point), but the event could’ve been cancelled or missed one year, or a couple times.
The reason I personally believe that 2015 is likely the most accurate year that Saints Row: The Third could take place in is because of the McManus 2015. Pretty self-explanatory, but I doubt a gun from a year in the future would be available if the game took place in 2014.
Apparently the majority of the game’s events take place during autumn. Jane Valderamma makes weather reports relating to fall and Halloween, up until “My Name is Cyrus Temple,” then she starts making winter newscasts. [x]
The timeline for when the “Gangstas in Space” mission takes place is also very confusing. But I genuinely don’t think it’s that important to the story and isn’t supposed to make sense, seeing as Johnny is alive and there’s no actual malice between Playa and Killbane. But if we are looking at it a bit more in depth, I’m assuming that body doubles were used for Johnny and Killbane during the filming, seeing as it’s set after saving Shaundi in “Three Way,” and Johnny would be ‘dead’ by then and Killbane would’ve fled Steelport. The clapperboard at the end of the mission shows that it was filmed in May, therefore going by earlier assumptions, this would most likely be in 2016.
The Gangstas in Space DLC takes place after the main events of Saints Row: The Third. In “Nyte Blayde’s Return,” Playa is asked to sign Johnny’s Gangstas in Space comic. They seem to have no clue what it is or that Johnny sold his likeness to Ultor in order for them to make a movie out of it, meaning it is still in the works, and seeing as Johnny is ‘dead,’ that’s probably why Playa takes on the main role.
Kid: “Could you sign this?”
Playa: “The fuck is this?”
Pierce: “Dude, it’s Johnny’s comic...he sold his likeness to Ultor, they’re making a movie outta this shit.” [x]
The clapperboard (which I can’t remember where it’s seen) shows the date of filming to be in March, meaning that the DLC took place before the mission of the same name. They are also filmed by two different directors, which would make sense for the DLC to come first and change directors for the mission, seeing as Jenny kills the director in the DLC.
Another reference that indicates that the DLC takes place before the mission is when Playa is walking around the sets, and the set that was used for “Gangstas in Space” in seen. They make a comment about whether or not that set will be used in the future.
Playa - Female 3: “So we using this set in the next scene?”
Kwilanna: “Not that I know of.”
Playa - Female 1: “So this has nothing to do with Gangstas in Space?”
Kwilanna: “Don’t know. Looks like Mars though.” [x]
A news headline shows that Genkibowl VII takes place a month before the events of the Gangstas in Space DLC. If we are saying that the DLC takes place in March of 2016, then Genkibowl VII occurs in February.
The Trouble With Clones DLC takes place months after Johnny’s death and presumably after “Nyte Blayde’s Return” but still during the main events of the game. The fan asking for their comic to be signed in that mission cutscene is speculated to be Jimmy (due to their similar appearance and speech), and seeing as he is not as nervous to approach the Playa in the DLC as he is in that mission, it’s possible that it takes place afterwards. I can’t find the transcript on the wiki for when Jimmy states he’s been collecting Johnny’s belongings for months, but he says it in the cutscene when Playa first goes to Smiling Jack’s Diner, and in the trailer for the DLC.
Saints Row IV: 2021
The timeline of Saints Row IV would be easy to figure out if only we knew when Cyrus Temple was killed. All we really have to go off of is that “Zero Saints Thirty” takes place sometime after the Save Shaundi ending of Saints Row: The Third, and the events of the game take place five years after Cyrus is killed. I can only assume that the mission takes place after all of the third game’s DLC, and therefore sometime in mid to late 2016 or possibly even in the next year.
Five years after “Zero Saints Thirty,” the Zin Empire invade Earth on the 10th of June. This means it would take place in 2021, and if we are going by real guidelines of American politics, Playa would be in their second term as the President of the United States. The date shown on that link states the invasion occurs in 2013, but this is obviously very inaccurate and doesn’t fit the timeline we’ve had laid out for us. So, I can only assume that this was a developer oversight, as the game was released in 2013, and they may have just forgotten to change the dates of that material (along with a couple others) to make it fit the in-game timeline.
Another reason that I’m thinking the majority of the game’s events happen around 2021 is because the McManus 2020 is already out. Therefore, the earliest year the game could possibly take place in is 2020, but if we are going with 2016 being the year Cyrus Temple was killed (in this case) that would mean five years later would be 2021.
The Enter the Dominatrix DLC can’t really be placed on the timeline considering it isn’t actually canon. In the Christmas Text Adventures from the How the Saints Save Christmas DLC, one of the options for the first choice of The Future text adventure is ‘dinosaurs have taken over the planet!’ This is in reference to the dinosaurs at the end of the Enter the Dominatrix DLC, and if this option is selected we are told that the DLC isn’t officially canon. But for the sake of this post, and if you ever want to use it in your writing or your own canon, below I will leave what I wrote when I was trying figure this out before I remembered that text adventure existed.
We know that this DLC isn’t lore accurate and just overall doesn’t take itself too seriously. It breaks the fourth wall multiple times, as the characters (mainly Shaundi) refer to the other games by name rather than just saying an event that occurred in them or the year that they took place, as if they were all acting in the main games like they do with some of the DLCs. Not to mention that Zinyak is included in the filming, and seeing as he sits down with Jane Valderamma, then the interview section of the DLC would have to take place before “Grand Finale” and because Matt, Pierce and Shaundi are all involved, it would be after “The Saints Flow.” Johnny isn’t seen anywhere throughout this DLC, so we can narrow it down even further and say the interviews occur before “Welcome Back.”
In terms of the actual ‘filming’ of Enter the Dominatrix, it makes no sense. The simulation and Zinyak’s invasion have already happened, so it would have to be recent, even though Playa responds as if it was made a long time ago.
Jane Valderamma: “So. What exactly is Enter the Dominatrix?”
Playa: “Oh man, are we really digging that up?” [x]
In that same cutscene is when Shaundi first refers to Saints Row 4 as if it was just another production they all acted in:
Shaundi: “Worst idea we’ve ever had.”
Jane Valderamma: “Really?”
Shaundi: “The script made no sense. Like. At all. Saints Row 4 was way more elegant.”
So, really, you can’t exactly place this because it is all just breaking the fourth wall. However, building on this false idea that Saints Row 4 was also filmed, that would explain why Zinyak is still alive and was asked to be a guest in Enter The Dominatrix. The same goes for Josh Birk for his appearance in the first mission of the DLC.
According to the wiki, the events we see in the ‘footage’ take place a year after the Kill Killbane ending of Saints Row: The Third (so going with this timeline, that would be 2016).
One year after the Kill Killbane ending of Saints Row: The Third, Pierce is mayor of Steelport. Zinyak and Zin invade Steelport. Playa resists Zinyak’s forces. [x]
They also address the fact that Shaundi is alive in the film even though in the original Kill Killbane ending, she dies alongside Burt Reynolds and Viola DeWynter in the explosion of the statue on Magarac Island.
Kinzie [commentary]: “Pierce is mayor now because Burt died in SR3, right?”
Shaundi [commentary]: “Yep.”
Kinzie [commentary]: “But you and Mayor Reynolds were together then, right?”
Shaundi [commentary]: “Right. With Viola DeWynter.”
Kinzie [commentary]: “So if Burt died in the explosion then how did you survive?”
Playa [commentary]: “Uh, because Shaundi made her save versus explosions.” [x]
Even though it isn’t canon and doesn’t adhere to the established lore at all, that is what I found in terms of some kind of timeframe for the DLC. If you really want to, you could say this is an alternate timeline (because we already know those exist) where the Saints are just actors, or you could go with the possibility of time travel which Zinjai informs Playa about at the end of Saints Row IV if you completed all the loyalty missions.
The How the Saints Save Christmas DLC takes place after the events of Saints Row IV. We know this because of the text adventure that has Future Shaundi describing why she picked the time she did to travel back and warn the Saints.
“I would make the trip back to my own past. But when? How far back to go? I could’ve traveled back and warned everyone about the Zin invasion but I also knew I needed to be able to get back to my time. Also, if we had never been abducted, we wouldn’t have gotten Johnny back. So I chose the day before Clawz came to power. We would have defeated Zinyak already and had his time machine – but it wouldn’t be too late to save Christmas.” [x]
It obviously takes place in December, so I would say that if the main events of the game were all completed during 2021, then it’s possible it takes place in the same year. Also looking at the way the homies question Playa about their attitude towards Christmas, it seems as though they haven’t all spent the holiday together before (or at least not all stuck on a ship together where they can’t get away from one another if they don’t want to celebrate). But if the main game took longer than six months, the DLC could easily take place in December of 2022.
One of the text adventures places the DLC in 2013, but this is obviously inaccurate, so I believe it’s a similar case of what I mentioned earlier (with the Zin invasion), that the dates may not have been changed to reflect the established in-game timeframe, seeing as this DLC was released in December 2013. This also happens with the magazine type layouts for the presets you choose from for character creation, as well as the ‘Fuck Cancer’ and ‘Let Them Eat Cake’ bills (although, they are hard to read) that Keith David makes you choose between in “The Saints Wing.”
Gat out of Hell: Sometime after How the Saints Save Christmas
I’m not entirely sure what the time difference between How the Saints Save Christmas DLC and the start of Gat out of Hell is, so it’s entirely up to your own interpretation. I would say it’s probably not more than within a year, just because of the dialogue when they’re celebrating Kinzie’s birthday.
All images linked are taken from the Saints Row Wiki.
Note: The dates shown on the obituaries posted on the wiki are inaccurate. They were taken down from the official website, I can only assume because they have been retconned.

I know you're right, but I'd still love to see the examples if you wanted to post them!
YES i love a good excuse to talk meta about johnny… ok, proof that johnny gat isnt just a dumb, stoic bruiser and is actually a snarky dork whos far more perceptive than he lets on. also he genuinely cares about his friends
johnny IS good at planning… it just has to involve violence or destruction of some kind. hes practically a genius at improvised murder. outside of that though, he doesnt really know what to do, and he actually kinda admits this himself
like, this sure sounds like a plan if ive ever heard one. or this. i could go on
according to a homie conversation with kinzie, he could run the gang, he just doesnt want to (x)
if it wasnt for johnny, he, boss, and shaundi would absolutely have died on lorens plane. johnny was about to be executed when he ripped the chair he was tied to out of the floor, and it doesnt seem like boss or shaundi would have been able to save him or escape themselves if he hadnt done anything. i dont think boss even had a plan there (x)
hes also the one who figures out that matt and asha didnt betray them (x)
take this entire scene from sr1. the second playa is conscious again, johnny stands up to draw tanya and tonys attention away to keep them from noticing, and provokes tony so he can make an opening for playa to escape. so not only is he a) smarter than people give him credit for, but b) hes also willing to risk his life and potentially sacrifice himself for playa, someone he barely knows
btw this is his expression when he tells you to run
theres actually a lot of examples of johnny looking out for other people (mostly boss, but other people too) at his own expense. in sr2 he stops his fight with jyunichi (who LITERALLY just murdered his girlfriend) in order to save the boss from potentially being gunned down in the middle of the room, and gets tossed to the floor because of it. if it wasnt for jyunichi stopping it, gat would have been shot to death right there (x). in the same scene he also prioritizes checking on the boss after they yelled for him over paying attention to the fight, and gets run through with a sword. in srtt he stays behind on lorens plane in order to cover boss and shaundis escape, despite the fact that hed already been stabbed. in gat out of hell, he originally planned to risk his life to rescue the boss all on his own (x) and also disarmed at his own (and through him, potentially the boss’) risk in order to save jezebel, who he also barely knew, from her father (x). hes actually remarkably selfless for a dude who loves to, yknow, kill people
gives aisha flowers even though thats not his kind of thing at all, because she felt like he didnt appreciate her enough (x) (x) and judging from the identical ones in her house in sr2, we can assume he continued to do so
according to the evil version of boss from ashas simulation, johnny “cried like a little bitch” when aisha died (x) hes also shown crying over her body in his own simulation as well (x)
during his personal mission in sriv he not only talks about his feelings for once without prompting (x) but also asks boss about their own personal nightmare, and if they were ok after it (x) (x). he ALSO awkwardly tries to comfort boss about his “death” and implies that he missed them too (x)
ever tried to romance him twice in a row? if, not heres what he says. the guy is a huge nervous dork as much as he tries to hide it
has a homie conversation where he actually sits and comforts shaundi about his “death”, apologizes that she had to go through all that, and promises her hes not going anywhere again (please listen to it on the wiki page if you havent heard it before, its so good)
literally goes to hell for his best friend, worries about them while idle (i cant find a video that has this dialogue but i can tell you without a doubt its in the game. he says ”hope the boss is okay…”), and gets so worried that he wont manage to save them in time that hes anxiously pacing around the room while going on a song-rant about it

Marvin Sease Candy Licker Lyrics
10. The Housekeeper
Despite a lack of attention from most print sources and other common avenues of publicity in the blues world, Marvin Sease has turned his smooth, X-rated ladies' man persona into a cottage industry complete with merchandising in the Deep South. Sease straddles the line between blues and gospel-drenched soul, much like fellow Southern singers Johnnie Taylor and Tyrone Davis, but his often racy lyrics and concert performances, coupled with the advantages of major-label distribution, have ensured Sease a strong following, particularly among female fans enamored of his signature song and breakthrough jukebox hit, the provocative, innuendo-laced 'Candy Licker.' Born in Blackville, S.C., Sease got his start by joining a gospel group in nearby Charleston called the Five Gospel Singers, and moved to New York at age 20, where he joined another gospel group called the Gospel Crowns. Preferring R&B, though, Sease put together a backing band (called Sease) featuring his three brothers. When this venture failed, Sease began singing to pre-recorded backing tracks at local dances and clubs, self-released several 45s, and eventually scored a regular gig at a Brooklyn nightspot called the Casablanca. Gunning for greater success, Sease recorded a self-titled LP in 1986 featuring one of his most popular songs, 'Ghetto Man,' and began working the South's so-called chitlin circuit of ghetto bars, rural juke joints, and blues festivals. While shopping the LP, released on his own Early label, to record stores, Sease stumbled upon a contact who eventually got him a deal with Polygram, which re-released the LP on London/Mercury in 1987 with the addition of the newly recorded, ten-minute track 'Candy Licker.' 'Candy Licker' became an underground success on jukeboxes across the South; it was too explicit for radio airplay, but audiences - especially female ones - flocked to see Sease in concert. Over the next ten years, Sease recorded a string of albums for London/Mercury (Breakfast, 1987; The Real Deal, 1989; Show Me What You Got, 1991) and the New York-based Jive (The Housekeeper, 1993; Do You Need a Licker?, 1994; Please Take Me, 1996) that sold consistently well, although none have yet matched the performance of Marvin Sease, which hit number 14 on Billboard's R&B chart and number 114 on the pop chart. Several more releases were issued before the '90s came to a close: Bitch Git It All (1997), Hoochie Momma (1999). Women Would Rather Be Licked was issued in early 2001. The live CD and DVD Live with the Candy Licker both appeared in 2005.
