finished RF Kuang's Yellowface yesterday, and have a lot of thoughts, but for now would just like to point out how June keeps complaining about chinese food bc "it has too much oil", but then goes on to order a bunch of western food that she likes that she herself describes as having a lot of oil; but then she is unable of eating it bc her problems (caused by her racism) make her lose her appetite

But everyone in this novel is a different shade of awful. There is no one who is redeemable and there is no one who is really asking for it. While I never rooted for June, I did want several different people to beat the brakes off her!

What interesting to me about Yellowface is how we can clearly see how June’s mental health is deteriorating as the book goes. Started from excusing herself for being a fake friend and ended with straight up murder attempt. I wouldn’t be surprised that the last scene was actually her in mental hospital
