I’ve seen some takes about the progress pride flag recently and with pride coming up I just gotta say—

I get, that the original rainbow flag is meant to encompass the entire community; it’s meant to include trans people, queer people of colour, and intersex people. So it can seem like the progress flag is tacky overkill to some.

But I can tell you from first hand, brutal experience, that a lot of people flying the rainbow don’t mean us. There are a lot of right wing white cis gays who fly the rainbow and they ONLY mean them. As so many cis gays turn their back on trans people, we DON’T feel included under that flag.

There’s gonna be a lot of businesses in the uk this pride who will fly a rainbow and call themselves progressive, then uphold the supreme court ruling that forces trans people into the wrong bathrooms. The rainbow doesn’t mean safety for all of us anymore.

The progress pride flag is an explicit inclusion of trans people queer poc, and intersex people. People who use it, are EXPLICITLY saying they mean us too when they are talking about acceptance and inclusion. As so many people decide we are too inconvenient and controversial to bat for, those flags fly a signal of a place where we matter.

So if you don’t get it, it might not be for you, and that’s okay. But to me, it’s fucking gorgeous
