Japanese Fashion Designers
Bonnie English
Bloomsbury, 188 pages, ISBN 9781847883100
euro 50,00
Over the past 40 years, Japanese designers have led the way in aligning fashion with art and ideology, as well as addressing identity and social politics through dress. They have demonstrated that both creative and commercial enterprise is possible in today's international fashion industry, and have refused to compromise their ideals, remaining autonomous and independent in their design, business affairs and distribution methods. The inspirational Miyake, Yamamoto and Kawakubo have gained worldwide respect and admiration and have influenced a generation of designers and artists alike. Based on twelve years of research, this book provides a richly detailed and uniquely comprehensive view of the work of these three key designers. It outlines their major contributions and the subsequent impact that their work has had upon the next generation of fashion and textile designers around the world. Designers discussed include: Issey Miyake, Yohji Yamamoto, Rei Kawakubo, Naoki Takizawa, Dai Fujiwara, Junya Watanabe, Tao Kurihara, Jun Takahashi, Yoshiki Hishinuma, Junichi Arai, Reiko Sudo & the Nuno Corporation, Makiko Minagawa, Hiroshi Matsushita, Martin Margiela, Ann Demeulemeester, Dries Van Noten, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dirk Bikkembergs, Alexander McQueen, Hussein Chalayan and Helmut Lang.

Stardust Telepath #3 - Explosive Mechanic
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Screenplay: RinRin Storyboard/Episode Direction: Shinichirou Ueda Animation Direction: Megumi Nagayama, Ryoutarou Takamura, Yuuta Masaki, Ken Mukaigawara Key Animation: Hiroyuki Shimizu, Megumi Nagayama, Maya Yoshida, Tatsuya Urano, Yuuta Masaki, Hiroshi Tanabe, Yousuke Sotoyama, Haruka Sakai, Manabu Kushibuchi, Takanori Suzuki, Satoshi Horisawa, Michitaka Yamamoto, Takahiro Ninagawa, Lilin Zhao, Haruki Ebisu, Yoshiko Nakamura, Kanoko Sakurai, Ryoutarou Takamura, Tetsuya Sunaga, Ken Mukaigawara, Junichi Hashimoto, Yuuichirou Kamura (Eyecatch: 街早智子)
I've wanted to talk about this show since I watched the first episode, but I couldn't find the time. Now we're at episode 3, and guess what? It's pretty great still. Kaori has been at the helm of the whole series at Studio Gokumi, showcasing the studio's in-house staff in a very strong way. Kaori's approach to adapting this series is fantastic; the show is very colorful, especially in its character designs. There are so many fun reactions and expressions that I just can't help but love. It's been a lot of fun so far, and Kaori's expressive and colorful direction is a great match for the series' character designer, Takahiro Sakai. You might have already seen his designs in Yuki Yuna is a Hero, or perhaps you've watched the recent Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon (I know I didn't). The designs are very flexible and simple, which works great with the more expressive moments. I mean, it's just so cute, and when combined with the color design, they really stand out to me as a big selling point of this anime.
The story itself is somewhat comparable to the recent Bocchi the Rock, if I had to mention something to compare, if you're a fan of shows dealing with social anxiety and featuring fun visuals, I would definitely recommend giving this a try.
Since the title does say this is a write-up on episode 3, I should probably start talking about episode 3. This is actually the first episode so far that Kaori didn't have a hand in from a boarding perspective, but the expressiveness and reactions were still present in this episode. While the usage of them and the colors weren't as bold as Kaori's usual style, I believe Shinichirou Ueda did a really good job, especially for the more serious or emotional moments of the episode.
Kaori relies on a lot of contrast or bright and simple elements over detailed backgrounds to make things pop. Every time they're a bit quirky or making a funny face, you'll notice it. Ueda's approach is a bit more cohesive, and I couldn't really find a word for it until I talked to my friend this morning, who mentioned that he noticed it, and he's absolutely right. Ueda takes a more environmental approach compared to Kaori, incorporating more variety in distance and layout size. For instance, he uses long empty halls to emphasize the distance Umika must cross to connect with Raimon. When Umika runs during the night, it's subtly matched by the soft stars in the sky. In contrast, Kaori might have been a bit more heavy-handed in how brightly the stars shine or how much they pop out. I think Ueda's approach is different in that he likes to make the entire scene a bit more unified in its look rather than having one element stand out more than the others. I like both Kaori and Ueda's styles very much, and I don't have a strong preference between the two. I just wanted to mention the differences I see in their approaches.
Returning to the production as a whole for a moment, I completely forgot to mention that, aside from the aesthetic direction and character designs, the show animates quite well. It's a very pleasing-looking show, at least to me. The production is very solid, and I think credit should be given to the talented in-house animators at Gokumi and the animation producer, Kenta Washikazi. He has only held this role for two shows prior to this one (Yuki Yuna is a Hero: The Great Mankai Chapter and Seton Academy), both of which also had solid production, so it's clear he knows what he's doing. He has brought on people like Kouta Sera, who appears to be fairly heavily involved in this show as a key animator so far, and he's extremely talented. For instance, he did the cut of Umiko floating up in the opening. It's a perfect mix of in-house staff and the talent Washikazi decided to bring on.

💫 ANIME EXPO 2024: TUTTE LE NOVITÀ DAL GRANDE EVENTO DI LOS ANGELES (PARTE 2) - Crunchyroll Edition
Fire Force, Witch Hat Atelier, Omniscent Reader, Natsume degli Spiriti, Yakuza Fiancé, Blue Exorcist e ancora Black Butler, Blue Lock, Il Monologo della Speziale e chi più ne ha ne metta!
Tumblr media
youtube
🔶🔸ANYWAY, I’M FALLING IN LOVE WITH YOU
Tumblr media
Al momento, sappiamo solo che in capo al progetto c'è il regista Junichi Yamamoto (Why Raeliana Ended up at the Duke's Mansion, Armor Shop for Ladies & Gentlemen).
youtube
🔶🔸DEMON LORD, RETRY! R
Tumblr media
I nuovi episodi saranno infatti diretti da Kazuomi Koga (Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible, TenPuru: No One Can Live on Loneliness), presso GEKKOU (My One-Hit Kill Sister, Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again).
🔶🔸LINK CLICK: BRIDON ARC
Tumblr media
🔶🔸NATSUME'S BOOK OF FRIENDS (Stagione 7)
Tumblr media
L'adattamento è affidato allo STUDIO DEEN (Sasaki and Miyano, Days with My Stepsister) e ha come regista Toshifumi Kawase (The Flowers of Hard Blood, Washimo).
🔶🔸OMNISCENT READER
Tumblr media
youtube
🔶🔸BLUE EXORCIST
Tumblr media
youtube
🔶🔸BLUE LOCK (Stagione 2)
Tumblr media
Two blue is megl che uan.

BLEACH: Thousand-year Blood War ep 8 review
There really isn't that much to say about the episode, so instead, I'll just gush over a few characters and point out a few things I found interesting~.
First of all, Zero Squad is here! They're talking, moving, and in colors! Really loved their comical appearance and the fact Ichigo was mostly 'wth' in the rest of the episode once they appeared on the screen! Just so happy Zero Squad got introduced, and while they appeared like a bunch of clowns, there was still this menacing aura in them which told everybody they were the real deal.
Did anyone else notice Senjumaru was floating? I wonder how that works. Oh, and extra her arms sounded very mechanical. Loved the fact they added that little sounds each time she moved her hands. And gosh! She is so pretty and her voice is just perfect. Also, it was a lovely plus to see her annoying Mayuri. Like lol. Mayuri was so done in this episode. At first, he had to explain to some teen (Ichigo) about the mechanics of Zanpakuto and how it couldn't be fixed and then Senjumaru strolls and is trolling him, lol. xD
It was also nice how the sound planners had added that little jiggle-movement sound when Kirio talked. I can't wait to hear/read anime-only watchers' reactions to Kirio's big reveal! But man, was she very motherly. I liked the fact they had emphasized that on her.
On another note, Shinji sounded somehow odd. I know some people have questioned if his voice actor changed, but I don't think so? Not sure, but he wasn't anymore so jovial and the accent he usually had was gone or toned down a lot...I know things are grim, but the accent was still lacking somehow. At least from my mind. I don't know. He just sounded so...normal.
Tenjiro, on another hand. Lol. His punk-like attitude, the way he talked...all of that was very amusing to watch. I liked the fact he annoyed Unohana, hinting about her background and the fact 'you're lesser healer than I!' ...and in the next moment Tenjiro gets hit to his head, lol. xD
When Senjumaru grabbed Renji, Byakuya, Rukia, and Ichigo's Zanpakuto I always wondered one thing, and now more so, why the Zero Squad didn't take Kenpachi with them? I mean, it was literally stated in the episode's beginning, he too was in critical condition (along with Byakuya), and if Unohana was so "bad" healer, according to Tenjiro, why they didn't take him too? Because they were scared once Kenpachi would be able to move even liiittle bit, he would crash and burn the whole Zero Squad?
One other thing that bothered me was the fact Kuukaku admitted she and Ganju knew about Ichigo's father. In the manga (as far as I remember) it wasn't ever stated if they did. That kind of implies since the beginning they did and man...that just adds to the weight of making things more complicated than needed to be, because talking isn't sexy. I know Bleach manga is from the time when talking wasn't sexy, but even so...it had always bothered me when people don't talk to each other about important things, creating unnecessary drama. I know some things are better to left unsaid or to be told later on, but when the cat is already out of the bag? Erm, communication, anyone?
I think the suspension element of 'who is that mysterious guy with Urahara, Orihime, and Chad' kind of got ruined in the anime. I know in the manga it was a bit easier because you can't actually hear the people talking and in the anime, you can (and let's admit it, Junichi Suwabe has a very recognizable voice if you've heard his voice acting before), but I was kind of hoping they would have managed to circle that somehow. Oh well. I bet all Grimmjow fans are overjoyed their favorite will soon come!
I have to talk about Juushiro. He looked very handsome in this episode. Tired, but so did everybody else from Gotei 13, but even so...extremely handsome. We got some good shots of him.
This also made me realize the fact Kyoraku (a bit spoiler coming now for anime-only watchers) is a somewhat natural choice to continue after Yamamoto. All the flashbacks of him and Yamamoto, and the fact how he handled the whole ordeal came to others mourning Yamamoto's death. He acted like a calm leader that they all needed.
I still found it funny how Soi Fon blew her top in this episode a few times. Despite the fact she tries her best to be all calm and stoic, she is quite emotional, eh?
Makes me wonder where Yoruichi has been this whole time. Even at the beginning when Urahara crashed into Ichigo's place, she has been absent. I recall from the manga she went to do something important, but surely it wouldn't have taken that much time? Then again, it always feels like a lot of time passes in anime when in reality few hours or a day passes...but because so much happens in so little time, it just feels like that.
What genuinely surprised me was the fact Soul King seemed to be able to communicate in this. In the manga, it felt like it was left a bit in the air if he could or couldn't. But in this...while his communication wasn't that normal (sparkling lights really gave this overworld feeling, eh?), he still could. Also, the fact the stone he was inside was blue...I recall many people coloring his container warm orange or yellow colored in all those manga colorings I saw of him, but...yes. I see what you animators did and I applaud you for the foreshadowing. ;D

Mariko Kaga in With Beauty and Sorrow (Masahiro Shinoda, 1965) Cast: Kaoru Yachigusa, Mariko Kaga, So Yamamura, Kei Yamamoto, Misako Watanabe, Haruko Sugimura. Screenplay: Nobuo Yamada, based on a novel by Yasunari Kawabata. Cinematography: Masao Kosugi. Art direction: Junichi Osumi. Film editing: Yoshi Sugihara, Music: Toru Takemitsu. Some mannered acting and stagy blocking mars Masahiro Shinoda's otherwise involving With Beauty and Sorrow, a revenge drama that doesn't quite transcend its genre. Toshio Oki (So Yamamura), a womanizing novelist whose wife just barely puts up with his extramarital exploits, once had an affair with the young artist Otoko Ueno (Kaoru Yachigusa). She became pregnant but lost the baby at birth, and suffered severe psychological trauma. Now she lives with a young woman, Keiko (Mariko Kaga), her student and her lover. Otoko has recovered her emotional stability, and even agrees to meet Oki when he telephones her on a visit to Kyoto, sending Keiko to his hotel to take him to the restaurant where they will reunite. But Keiko is, as even Otoko suggests, a little "crazy," and after the meeting begins to plot ways to bring about her lover's revenge on Oki. Eventually, this involves Keiko's seducing not only Oki but also his son, Taichiro (Kei Yamamoto), a graduate student of medieval Japanese history, with predictably disastrous consequences. Old pro So Yamamura is excellent as Oki, and it's good to see the great Haruko Sugimura, veteran of many films by Shinoda's mentor, Yasujiro Ozu, in the small part of Otoko's mother. But the younger actors, particularly Kaga and Yamamoto, turn what might have been an affecting portrayal of doomed characters into melodrama. The film benefits from Toru Takemitsu's score, though it sometimes feels a bit at odds with the soap-operatic events on screen.

I know someone will point out something familiar about the plot but this sounds unlike Sunrise to create a show that resembles another from a different production studio.
