#KEITH IS SO EMBARRASSED TO BE CAUGHT LAUGHING AT LANCE’S JOKES I LOVE

Keith showed up at half past five, half an hour early. Lance was tripping his way out of the bathtub, grabbing his phone to make sure of the time.
“Lance?” his mother called again. “Did you hear me?”
“Yeah, mom!” Lance shouted from the bathroom. He winced a little as his voice echoed loudly. Hurrying up, he dried himself off and pulled on his bathrobe. He quickly finished up before he exited the bathroom, yelping as he bumped into someone. He stumbled and found himself caught in a swooning dip by none other than Keith.
“Keith!” he cried, surprised and suddenly quite breathless. “You're early!”
“Uh, yeah,” Keith said, staring at him, wide-eyed and stunned. “I had something to do before I came and thought it would take longer. Sorry?” He tilted his head. “You look different.”
“No, it's fine!” Lance said with a smile. “And of course I look different, I haven't put my face on. I'm doing makeup last.” He cleared his throat. “But, um, can you let me up?”
Keith blinked, startling at the dip he was holding Lance in, and quickly hauled him up to his feet. Lance barely hung onto the towel on his head, focused on getting his feet securely under him.
“Thanks,” Lance said. “Come on!” He sauntered over to his door and walked in, already halfway to his dresser when he finally heard Keith's heavy steps follow. Choosing a pair of briefs, Lance shimmied into his underwear quickly and turned, noting Keith had paused in the doorway, looking a little flushed and embarrassed. “Sorry, I didn't flash you, did I?” he asked. He did not think he had lifted the robe, but perhaps he had.
Keith turned even redder as he sputtered out a, “No, you — no.”
His mouth clicked shut and he stared at the floor.
“You've been in my room before,” Lance reminded him. “Don't tell me you're still scared of my bed?”
“I'm not scared of your bed,” Keith sighed, longsuffering. He shook his head, inhaled deeply, and walked inside.
“Close the door, will you?” Lance said as he grabbed his chosen pair of jeans and wriggled into them. He heard Keith comply just as he managed to get his jeans over his ass, having to hop a little to achieve it. When he turned, he found Keith looking very studiously at the Lady Gaga poster on his wall, opposite Beyoncé so the two queens could admire each other.
“Not your thing, right?” Lance said, and Keith startled.
“No!” he said, then paused. A little sheepishly, he said, “What?”
Lance laughed.
“Lady Gaga,” Lance said, pointing.
“Oh,” Keith said, looking over at the poster. He shrugged indifferently. “She's cool. My brother loves her, so I know her music. It's good.”
Lance blinked. Shiro, the buff man with the sweet face and a tattoo parlor, liked Lady Gaga. Huh. Lance nodded.
“If your brother were single,” Lance sighed wistfully.
Keith's head snapped toward him, irritation plain on his features.
“What about if he were single?” Keith asked, shoulders tense.
“Joking,” Lance choked out, startled. “Wow, I was so joking. It's just…” He shrugged. “Your brother is really handsome and buff. And he likes Lady Gaga? That's totally my type, but, like, I'd never. Even if he was single.”
“I thought you liked pretty girls?” Keith said, brow furrowing in confusion. “Like Allura?”
Lance snorted.
“Dude, I've seen Allura deadlift a man and toss his ass,” he said. “Strong is my type. That she's gorgeous beyond words is just a plus.”
It took a moment for Keith to reply. He stared at Lance, blinking slowly like he was letting that information sink in.
“Okay,” Keith said.
Humming, Lance went to his closet and pulled out the first shirt he saw. It was a crop top, but it did not matter. Lance was going to borrow one of Keith's shirts anyway. Lance pulled off his robe and pulled on the shirt. He turned and saw Keith's eyebrows go up.
“I'm borrowing one of your shirts anyway,” Lance said.
“Maybe a pair of my jeans, too,” Keith said, gesturing at Lance's pink jeans.
“What's wrong with my jeans?” Lance said, glancing down. “They're ripped like yours!”
“They're fashionably ripped,” Keith said with a hilarious amount of disgust. “I came by my rips honestly.”
Lance could not help but laugh. What a ridiculous argument!
“Hey,” Keith said, put out, “I got every one of those rips for each time I ate shit falling off my skateboard!”
“Okay,” Lance said, snorting. “You want me to run around until I fall down then?”
“No!” Keith said quickly. “Just borrow some of mine.”
Lance looked at him and asked, “Will they fit?”
“If they don't,” Keith said, “I can always rip yours for you.”
Lance was strangely touched by that offer.
“Well, it might as well be a pair I don't like,” Lance mumbled and walked over to his dresser to sort through his jeans. He found the darkest pair he had, which were not to his tastes and fit too tight around his ass anyway. He tossed them into his bag where he was packing his things to take to Keith's. He was not getting ready here only to ruin it all with dust from the road with the two trips on Keith's bike.
“Okay, I think I got everything,” Lance said and zipped up his messenger bag. He turned to Keith, smiling, and said, “Ready!”
There was a smile on Keith's face, lopsided and charming. The corners of his eyes were crinkled gently. Lance's heart began to pound nervously.
“What,” Lance said.
“You have a towel on your head,” Keith said, still smiling helplessly, and Lance yelped as he tugged it off and grabbed his hair bonnet. He put it on, tucking his hair into it to protect it from the outside elements.
“Okay, now I'm ready,” Lance said.
The smile dimmed into something softer.
“Alright,” Keith said. “Let's go.”
Unless a miracle happens, fem Lance is about to take a massive L in two hours. As a consolation prize, do you have any head canons for her that you'd be willing to share? Or maybe any plans to write a different fic for her? Pretty please 🥺
once again trying to post this ask.
let's see if the hundredth time is the charm.
anyway, really? that's a bummer. i love fem Lance. i love all Lances. they're all my fave.
buddy, you might be happy to learn that i have a whole fic with trans fem Lance who uses he/him pronouns but prefers female nouns. it was my fave to work on until i started rereading and editing Hostage. (i just tend to fall in love with every fic i'm currently working on.)
i really like Keith in this fic, tho that's probably bc i feel so bad for him in it.
i want to include an excerpt of that fic, but i'm thinking maybe that's what keeps messing up the ask?? anyway, i'll be reblogging with the excerpt and hopefully it'll post that way. 😔

October 12: Poison
Keith needed to lie better. He was only here because his mom got sick and asked for him to fill in for her. That in itself was weird but he heard that it was some kind of bug that was going around the Blades. It was the only reason he was here. There was literally no one else available. And of course, he had no real plans according to his mom. Apparently, training and sleeping did not count as ‘plans’. Add in that he had a space dog that could get him to say location quickly... nail in the coffin.
That’s how he got here, sitting alone at a table in the grand ballroom. Dressed in his fancy uniform and hair neatly tied back. Bored out of his damn mind. Sighing he tuned out the noise around him, the music, and the endless chatter. He was busy tapping his fingers when another waiter stopped by offering chocolateS. They kept coming by so he finally grabbed one. “Thanks.” He nodded at the guy who was just staring at him. He finally arched a brow and the waiter left.
Finally, the guy left so he dropped it onto his plate. It was irritating how they kept pushing the sweets. He didn’t even like them but they kept offering them to him since he arrived. He had been hiding them in his pockets and he eventually dumped them in the pond yesterday. But today, he had them on his bed, desk, and strangely enough in the bathroom. He thought it was weird, so he flushed them. He didn’t like the texture of the chocolate and he felt uncomfortable saying he didn’t like it or asking to stop. So he just hid them.
He felt a little like a fraud but what was he gonna do? If he left them around, Cosmo would eat them so had to get rid of them. Cosmo ate everything but he had heard that dogs cannot eat chocolate so he did not want to take any risks. But it was getting annoying. And now, they must think he liked them or maybe they were really popular on this planet. Like a delicacy.
He heard a voice, Shiro? Turning back to the table, there he was! Shiro was grinning at him. “Look who finally made it to the big boys' table!”
Laughing he fist-bumped him only to hear, “No, no, he didn’t mean you, he meant me!”
Lance plopped in the chair next to him, playfully hitting his knee. Keith laughed, “What are you guys doing here? No one said you would be here!”
Lance grinned, “Yeah, well, a certain commander said you were in the neighborhood, so here we are.”
Keith finally felt himself relax. This was suddenly doable. He hadn’t seen everyone in ages. He opened his mouth to inquire about the rest of the team when suddenly a waitress was bowing, offering him another candy. “Oh no, I already…” He looked down, what the hell? Where was the candy? He had one on his plate.
Frowning he felt a weight on his side. And a small voice sweetly stated, “Yes, thank you! He loves them!! Please bring him another. Thanks!”
Keith huffed a laugh, and whispered, “Oh really, I love them? I think a certain little paladin likes them!”
Pidge laughed, “Guilty!”
The waitress holds out a tray and he grabs one, “Thanks.” He waits until she leaves before offering it to Pidge who promptly pops it in her mouth. He found himself staring. At her mouth. Which was way more shiny and plump than he remembered. He watched as she moaned and he felt his pants tighten. Then her tongue swiped and his breath got caught in his throat resulting in him coughing. He had to look away before he embarrassed himself anymore.
The night passes quickly. Before long, Hunk and Shay arrived. With all of them at the table, he was able to relax and dinner was actually fun. He caught up with everyone and there was a lot of laughter and joking. Then the after-dinner speeches were made which was so much more fun with Pidge’s sarcastic comments when the music finally started. Dancing. He felt himself glance at Pidge. She looked amazing. She was in a dress, that seemed to flutter at her every movement, catching his eye more than not. He wanted to ask her to dance but he was nervous.
Deciding to head to the bar for some liquid courage, he ordered a round for the table and waited for the bartender to finish. As he waited, Pidge walked up and said she was here to help so he didn’t embarrass by spilling. While standing he couldn’t help but notice that she was a few inches taller than usual. He inquired and she replied that she was wearing shoes that were called wedges, which were apparently comfortable. He wondered why that mattered to him but he found that her legs looked longer and he had to forcibly turn away before he did something that he couldn’t take back. Pushing his hands into his pocket, he forcibly stopped himself from reaching for her.
The night continued and drinks were flowing. While it was hard for Keith to get drunk on the usual earth drinks, he made sure to limit himself because he was the ambassador for the Blades, something Lance certainly was not doing. Keith wasn’t sure how he got louder than his usual self but he did. As the night got on, everyone was much more relaxed, and he found himself finally able to ask Pidge to dance. Gazing down at her felt his heart beat faster and he imperceptibly moved her closer through a turn. He contemplated his feeling for the young lady before him. He knows that their people are interested in dating him but he never could commit to it. But gazing down at her, he couldn’t help but think, he’d move mountains for her.
Much later…
Keith and Shiro we alone at the table when he caught some whispers. As they pieced together the words, his heart froze. His gaze met Shiro’s concerned one. Fuck!
Without thought, he had moved, his blade held against the waiter's throat. “Poison! You bastards, I’ll kill you all before I let you hurt her.”
The room was silent and guards surrounded him and his target. Tightening his grip, he roared, “Tell me, what was in those goddamn chocolates? I want the antidote-NOW.” Keith was trying to control the red haze that was threatening to overcome him. He wanted to kill. He needed to protect her! But he knew he needed to control these emotions to be sure that he got the antidote.
He felt Shiro was at his back, ready to defend. Hoping to avert a tragedy. There was no way anyone was hurting her. Keith continues, growling out the words, “Tell me now, or your death will start the end of your world. I’ll burn this whole planet down without a thought if –“
“Keith! Don’t say anymore.”
“No!! I don’t give a fuck!” Turning his gaze back to the frightened servant, “Speak or die, now. Choose.”
Guards surrounding Shiro and Keith pointed their weapons at them, which Keith paid absolutely no mind to. Suddenly they part to reveal the King. “Stand down cub. The poison is debilitating to Galra but does not have the same effects on humans. Your woman is safe. No one is going to die.” He held his hands up placatingly and tried to calm him down.
Keith tightened his grip on the waiter, replying, “I’m going to need some hard proof. Pardon me if I don’t believe you.”
Shiro interjected, “Excuse me, your majesty. Poison does not impart any good feelings on our part. Nor does it mean that we are inclined to work with you. Especially with our Galra friends being sick. So, just know that Earth stands with the Blades.”
At this point, Lance, Hunk, and Pidge come back and see them surrounded by guards, and rushes to their friends' sides. Keith doesn’t drop the servant, instead turning concernedly to Pidge, “Katie!” He looks her over and says concerningly, “Are you okay, feeling well? The chocolates were poison. And you ate so many! I’m sorry!”
Feeling overwhelmed, he pushes the guard away and reaches for her. Pulling her close he looks into her eyes, touching her forehead, and finally using his fingers to trace her face. He pulls her close, wrapping an arm around her.
The King replies, “Paladins, we do not want war. I need to ask your forgiveness. We simply wanted an advantage. It’s not, uh, what you would call poison. No death! But more of a relaxant, with some negative side effects. It can, however, lower one’s guard and it seems, to make Galra sick. We had hoped, if you ate it, with your human and Galra genes, it would work best. I am sorry.”
The kind dropped to his knee and bowed. “Forgive an old man who simply wanted every advantage for his people.”
Keith growled, “No f-“
Pidge grabs Keith’s hand, exclaiming loudly, “Okay! But you will have to give up more in the negotiations. Any hope you had of coming out ahead is now irrecoverable.”
Keith froze. He allowed the team to negotiate and create guidelines. He was in no shape to speak rationally. At the end of the night, Lance laughed, “Keith, you played that off well! I thought you were actually going to kill someone…or everyone!”
Keith nodded but didn’t reply. He didn’t know how to say, he wasn’t playing anything off. He would have killed them all, without a second's hesitation. If, if… something happened to Katie. He wouldn’t even feel guilty. Maybe he should save that tidbit for later. He felt her hand brush him, gripping it tightly and he figured, maybe a trip to Earth was in store.
October 13: Masquerade
Prom. Katie never imagined she’d go but here she was. At the masquerade, ball-themed dance Pidge somehow feels like she is a different person. Yes, she was actually working the dance so it’s not like she was here for fun, instead, she got roped into helping her friends. Hunk needed her to help with the lights, Allura needed her help with the drone recordings and Lance asked for her to help with the electrical hookups for the DJ. All in all, she was pretty busy but Allura asked her to dress the part so she didn’t stand out.
Looking down, she felt like a completely different girl in a pantsuit. She had on shiny silver converse paired with an emerald green jumpsuit. But even though it was pants, it still drew attention, mostly because it was different from the hordes of skimpy dresses or huge ball gowns which she would have felt self-conscious in. Allura pinned her hair and she had some curls framing her face. She also did her makeup and paired it with a black half-mask. Her arms were bare with a cool bicep silver band and the front was a little lower than she was used to but no one recognized her. In fact, Hunk and Lance even were surprised when she arrived.
Looking around she decided to check the wires in the back because she knew that some people wandered back there and she didn’t want any surprises. As she walked back behind the stage, she bent over with her phone as a flashlight to double-check all the connections. As she stood, she turned and bumped into a body.
“Ow. Excuse me.” Rubbing her nose, she took a step back and to the left. That’s when the guy who she bumped into replied, “You’re gorgeous, let’s take a few minutes for ourselves and get to know each other better. Ya know what I mean?”
Pidge groaned, “Yeah, not interested buddy. I’m just gonna, HEY!”
As Pidge moved around him he grabbed her arm and started dragging her deeper into the darkness. Oh hell no! This guy must have a death wish because her brother and dad taught her how to defend herself and others. She pivoted and twisted her arm breaking free. As she planted her feet to give him the last warning, she saw a fist shoot out. Right into said guys chin.
Blinking, she tried to make out the shadow looming closer. He was definitely taller than her but not her brother. He was lean like him though and the form on the punch was perfect. But it can’t be Shiro because he is out of town. Who else would…
“I believe Katie said back off. So, while I know she could wipe the floor with you I don’t see the need when I’m here. Touch her again, and I will end you.”
That voice, she knows him. Standing still she waits to see what the asshole does. He finally leaves and she turns, “Keith, I had it.”
“I know. But you getting expelled for hitting someone is a tragedy. Me…not so much.”
“Dammit, Keith! Stop acting like you’re dispensable. You matter.”
“Sure thing. So, let’s go on back out there.” He reaches for her hand and her heart stutters. Damn, she thought she got over this little crush. Then he links their fingers and tugs her forward, heading for the door.
Right before they hit the gym, he mutters, “You, um, look great. So, wanna dance?”
Blushing she nods, guess the crush was alive and well!
October 14: Dragon
It was roughly 3 am when Pidge was woken up from a sound sleep. Blinking she saw a figure looming over her, instinctively she threw out a fist and tried to scramble out of the covers. Until she heard the words, “Pidge, Katie, it’s me! Stop you’re safe!”
Keith. That voice was Keith’s. Trying to calm down, she muttered, “Dude! You scared the crap out of me!” Quickly reaching for his arm, “Wait, are you okay? Why are you here?”
He chuckled, “Yeah, I’m good now that you’re not trying to kill me. As for why I’m here, well, you’re the smartest person I know, and I think, well, I think this is a dragon’s egg.”
“Huh?!”
Keith laughed, “Yep, totally the smartest.”
“Fuck you! Lemme see, damn I gotta turn on a light.”
Keith muttered something that sounded like, “I wish” but she disregarded it and reached for her bedside light. She had to have misheard. Focus.
Once the bed light table light turned on, she reached for the ‘egg’ in Keith’s hands. Oh my! She cradled it in her arms, holding it close like a baby. “How did you find this?” It was huge and heavy. But didn’t look too remarkable. Not like super colorful or has no remarkable design. Hmmm.
Looking up, she finds Keith has sat next to her on her bed. His eyes are not on the egg, however. Instead, they are on her bare legs. She feels her face heating but for some reason, she doesn’t cover up either. Refocusing, she flips through her mental notes trying to determine what was myth and fact.
Cosmo leaned forward to give her a lick and then hopped onto the foot of the bed exhausted. Grinning, she leaned forward and rubbed Cosmo’s ears. “Awwww, wear him out did ya?
Keith frowned, “He’s showing off for you.” Nudging him with his foot he muttered, “Faker.” They compared notes and argued and hours later were still contemplating this new development. As eventually discussed, they got closer and closer to each other. And Keith was so warm. She found herself leaning closer and closer to him.
Matt found them cuddled together with a baby dragon.
“KATIE!!”

Can I request the scenarios about how would Lance and Keith (Voltron Legendary Defender) react if they accidentally grab shy female human reader's boob? 🥰🥰😂🤣 Bonus: She is so very forgiving & sweet girl! 😊😊 I really live for flustered boys!! 🥰🥰💖
Keith and Lance Accidentally Grab Fem! Reader's Breast.
I'm sorry, I didn't quite make the reader shy. But I hope this suffices!
TW: accidental groping.
Keith
It had been a while since Keith last saw you.
He had been on a rather taxing mission and just simply couldn't wait to fall asleep next to you again.
As he was piloting his lion back to where you were, he couldn't help but let his mind wander to the memory of the smell of your hair everytime you hugged him. Or how tight you squeezed him after he would come back from rather long missions.
Keith's face heated as he thought about you kissing him all over his face, not seeming to be able to rid of these yearnings that suddenly overcame him.
He couldn't wait to see you. He was so excited for you to hold him again.
So excited, in fact, that he happened to miss the little rock protruding from the ground as he ran towards you to give you a hug.
Everything happened so fast, but you saw it all unfold in slow motion.
His face twists from a soft look of adoration to pure unadulterated horror as he realizes gravity would be the first person to hug him upon his arrival.
'So this is how it ends, huh? This is not how I pictured my demise.'
However, out of his human instinct, he outstretched his arms to maybe, just maybe get a hold of something to stop his fall.
Though, the only thing in front of him was you. And your breasts. How unfortunate.
As soon as he got his grasp on you, you quickly caught him before he hit the ground. You slightly tumbled with him, but managed to keep yourselves up.
Though, you couldn't help but wince at the sudden tight feeling on your chest. You looked down to see Keith clasping onto your boobs for dear life but Keith couldn't even look up into your eyes as he realized what he felt in his palms.
"U-Uh, Keith?" You whispered, rattled at your boyfriend's clumsiness. "I t-think you're good now."
He quickly let go, and regained his balance. His face was a mess of red and contorted features.
"I...I am so sorry." Was all he could manage.
He still wasn't looking in your eyes as he was scared that you'd scold him for touching you in such an inappropriate way.
However, was met with one of your breathtakingly suffocating hugs, your laughs ringing in his ear.
"If you wanted to touch me, all you had to do was ask." You joked.
"No! I didn't mean to- It was an- I'm sorry!" He couldn't help fluster under this scrutiny.
You only laughed some more before plastering his heated face with even warmer kisses, causing this man to self-implode.
Lance
Lance is a flirty man by heart. It is in his nature to flirt with you given the chance.
Of course, no matter how long you two have been together, he never fails to give you butterflies and make you blush with his flirting. It's like his superpower.
Off topic but, if you tried to flirt back with him, he'd chuckle at the attempt with flushed cheeks. But deep down, he's dying inside.
It had been a while since Lance had teased you and made you blush. And by a while, I mean about 4 days.
He loved seeing you stare at him with an embarrassed but doting look on your face. In fact, he missed it. He missed you.
So he trotted towards you quarters beginning to yearn for you, realizing that he wanted to just be in your company. He likes hanging out with everyone, but he especially likes hanging out with you.
He knocked quite insistently on your door until he heard a small voice telling him to come in.
You turned to face him, a large smile making it's way to your lips, "Lance! Hey!"
Lance felt his stomach do somersaults upon your gaze, so happy that his presence puts a smile on your face. He knew that you weren't fond being around too many people so to see that he's an exception makes him ecstatic.
You give him a quick hug before pulling away, "What brings you here?"
He smirks, "What, I can't come and see my girl?"
You reddened and chuckle, "Of course, I wanted to see my boy for a while."
God, he loves you. But there's no way he's gonna let you deliver the final blow.
He stands up straight, closing his eyes. He brings his hand to your shoulder to give you best pickup line of your life but his calculations were off. They were very off and now his hand is resting on your boob.
His eyes stay closed until he hears a small, "Oh."
He peaks at where his hand landed and his stomach drops.
You both stand there, staring at his hand.
Lance is in so much shock right now that he can't move, "I..."
The best thing you could possibly think of in this moment is placing your own hand on his peck.
When you do this, of course he's flustered. But you both look into each other's eyes and just start breaking down laughing at the predicament.

I love your writing for Keith from Voltron! I miss Voltron 😭😭 I was wondering could I request some head cannons for the Paladins x reader and having there first kiss? 😊
Oh boy! A multi-character post! Get ready folks, this is gonna be long! - Mod Venus
Paladin’s First Kiss Headcanons (REQUEST)
Keith Kogane
A first kiss with Keith happens before something major, like the calm before the storm. He’s mulling over things while sitting on a windowsill, one leg drawn up and arms crossed as the cosmos glitter out the window. S/O, having a hunch, goes and finds him and promptly sits on the sill too, facing him.
After a soft inquiry on their part and a bit of a pinched look on his face, he opens up about what’s on his mind. At this point, he already knows he can trust them, so saying what he’s thinking isn’t quite as hard as it used to be before they got together.
After he explains himself, he lets S/O talk. Hearing what they have to say is important to him after all. Their words start sinking in and he finds himself subconsciously relaxing in their presence, shoulders not so tense, face softening.
How do they just...do that? Listening to his deepest troubles and making it seem like something beatable instead of some towering wall?
On one hand, he’s glad he doesn’t have to face everything completely alone anymore. On the other...he’s scared. If he loses them...
Next thing he knows, he’s drawn them up into his arms, pulling them close and resting his forehead against theirs. S/O pauses mid-sentence in surprise as their eyes meet. His eyes are intense, but not threatening. That passion he’s known for is simmering beneath the surface, and it’s sucking S/O in.
“No matter what happens...there’s no way I’m letting anything happen to you...got that?”
S/O can feel his breath brushing their skin as he murmurs those heartfelt words before his lips meet theirs, chapped but tender...tentative...uncharacteristically vulnerable. A hand in his hair makes him melt internally and feel like he’s floating all at once: an odd combination, but not unpleasant.
Even after they part for air, Keith is reluctant to let the go. Bearing so many feelings out in the open like that leaves him a bit emotionally raw, so he’s almost dependent on S/O’s presence like a healing balm for such a young, weary soul.
To sum it up: Keith’s first kiss with his S/O came from a place of fear...of worry for the future. However, it is also a promise; an oath of how much he loves them and how he will fight for the sake of their future together.
Hunk Garret
Hunk and his S/O were up way late one night...probably from nerves. And what better way to get rid of nighttime nerves than some late night snacks, right? Except...there’s not much to raid in the pantry...so the two decide to whip up a little something instead!
Even if S/O doesn’t know their way around the kitchen, Hunk is happy to let them try and help, or to have them sit and watch while he works...though his focus may be more on the food.
The two try not to make too much noise, but they can’t help but chat about anything and everything: from Voltron to weird alien food to just innocuous things.
It’s not long before the treats are ready, and soon the conversation is accented with comments of how delicious it turned out and how great Hunk is in the kitchen.
Hunk, caught between being humble and being proud of his talent, gets flustered. S/O, who has given him pecks on the cheek before, goes to do so, but because the motion catches him off guard it instead ends up planting squarely on his mouth.
There’s a pause before the two panic, apologizing profusely, followed by another pause and finished with a duet of bashful chuckles at how ridiculous the situation is.
S/O quietly asks if they should try that again. Hunk, with a warm smile and overflowing heart, says they should. The sort-of-first-but-technically-second kiss is sweet and soft and dusted with cookie crumbs. It’s the kind of kiss that immediately gets addicting, because your insides feel like cotton and are warm like fresh laundry.
To sum it up: Hunk’s first kiss is steady and sure, the next step in a happy life together. After this milestone, kisses become much more frequent and as natural as saying each other’s name. The man has domestic bliss written all over him, after all.
Pidge Holt
So...Pidge may be smart, but romance-wise, she’s a bit of a...lame duck. At least at first! She’s good at the casual things, like hanging out and playing games, or messing with Lance for a laugh at his expense. But...what she labels “gushy things” ...? A bit out of her field.
The first kiss didn’t happen for a while and the reason it happened wasn’t exactly romantic. It was getting real late, but it looked like Pidge was shooting for another all-nighter at her computer, much to her S/O’s dismay.
S/O had dozed off for a bit, woken up, and realized Pidge hadn’t moved an inch; the little brainiac was hunched over her clickety-clacking keyboard like some sort of bespectacled space gargoyle. It would be funny if it weren’t so concerning. S/O started off with a quiet inquiry, only to be met with a soft mutter of “Go back to bed.” S/O tried again, more insistent, bordering on pleading, but what the Green Paladin lacks in height she makes up for in sheer stubborness. She merely dismissed her S/O’s concerns again, stating that this isn’t the first time she’s done this and she’ll sleep when she’s done.
S/O, getting miffed, can’t help but snark about how long that’ll take, exactly. Pidge, who was mentally drained even without admitting it, doesn’t take kindly to this and snaps back, only to be shocked when S/O rushes forward and snaps the computer shut. Before she can protest, she’s stunned by the expression on S/O’s face: a scowl with glassy eyes and a slightly trembling lip.
S/O starts on a mini rant about how much it hurts them to see how little she cares about her own well-being when they care so much about it in her stead, and how it feels like what they say doesn’t seem to matter as much as some line of code or encrypted file, and how is she supposed to function properly when dead on her feet in the morning?? It trails into the idea that maybe because they themselves don’t understand this stuff, that maybe she doesn’t trust their judgment as a person; but she should at least know that they only say these things because they worry about her, and it hurts to be brushed off like some sort of pest.
Pidge watches owlishly as S/O stalks off before they really blow up and say something they’ll regret. The silence that ensues is deafening, and ultimately too uncomfortable for her to sit in as she goes and heads over to S/O’s room. She bites her lip as she sees them trying to calm down their breathing. As soon as she sits down next to them, she does her best to awkwardly start up a fresh conversation with S/O’s quiet gaze on her. She stammers during the apology, not from scrambling for excuses, but out of nerves and panic at the idea that she might have ruined the relationship. In the end, she pleads for them to not feel like they matter less than whatever project she’s working on, because it’s not true.
After a beat, S/O nods, much to her relief. After she mutters something about being a terrible girlfriend, she’s surprised by the feeling of S/O’s hand over her own. There’s some relief however when S/O quietly jokes that it’s gonna take a lot more for her to win “Most Terrible Girlfriend” award, followed by a soft kiss to the corner of her mouth that she quickly indulges in, not wanting to waste it.
To sum it up: Pidge is so driven that sometimes other things fall to the wayside. A first kiss with her is a way to plant her back on the ground; a reminder of what she has, and all-together a way for the bond to deepen even farther.
Lance McClain
Oh, this romantic had been dreaming about this for a while, even before he and his S/O got together. Which means that he’s looking for just the right moment when they do.
It’s one of those moments you read about in sappy romance novels. Lance insists on sneaking out one night when they’re staying on a planet. He takes them on a little adventure: A bit of perusing the streets, indulging the nightlife, and checking out the local sights before headed to a more secluded spot on the edge of the settlement, where the foliage gives way to a horizon crowned with stars.
The two of them sit down and just talk. Lance and S/O, already super close and practically bound at the hip, were no strangers to hanging out together, but this felt so much more intimate. More private. Laying on the ground might’ve been uncomfortable if it weren’t for the happy mood.
There’s banter, but they’re mostly just reveling in each other’s company and taking a moment to appreciate the beauty of the universe that’s under the Paladins’ protection.
The air is quiet, with the exception of some local fauna here and there. Lance is suddenly not so bouncy; instead, he is pensive. His bright smile is faded, catching S/O’s attention. When they ask, he takes a moment to steel himself before coming clean about seeing them as more than just a friend.
“Heh...judging by the look on your face, you weren’t expecting that, huh?”
S/O is stunned, yes, because though they felt the same, they had no idea he liked them that way. He seemed like the type to straight up say he was interested. Lance, sensing the question, looks up with a nervous smile.
“You...you’re worth more than just a wink and a pick-up line, you know? I know it’s hard to believe, but...” his eyes dart to the side, downcast. “I don’t mean this as a fling. I really-“
He’s cut off when S/O moves in close, startled out of his ramble when their hand takes his. Warm tingles skitter up his spine at the contact, and he’s dumbstruck when they tilt his face to look back at them.
“That’s good...because I bet you weren’t expecting me to like you too,” they quip softly. Lance is torn between laughing and getting embarrassed, so he just kinda gurgles out of bashful nerves. When they smile and chuckle at his reaction, it just hits him what’s happening right now, which jumpstarts his brain back to life. He gets this real tender look on his face, hesitantly reaching to brush some of their hair out of their face before leaning in and pressing his lips to theirs. His heart soars and does backflips when he feels them reciprocate, and when they part he can’t help but smile softly.
There’s just this sense of completeness that washes over the two, like two missing puzzle pieces finally coming together to make the picture or a river meeting the sea. It blooms like a cactus flower in the night: fresh and new and oh so worth the wait.
To sum it up: a first kiss with Lance is amazing and memorable, but not flashy, despite what his personality might lead to believe. In matters of serious relationships, Lance gets nervous because real feelings are nerve-wracking (in a good way,) and he doesn’t want to mess up such a good bond. Still, the romantic in him wants to kiss them right at the start of it all, because it just...feels right. Plus, it’s a great story to pass down in the future.
Takashi Shirogane
A first kiss with Shiro is...a bit complicated.
The man has so many responsibilities on his shoulders that romance is pushed to the side a lot. Not that he doesn’t care about it or his S/O, he just feels obligated to focus on the situation at hand rather than indulge for himself.
His S/O understands that. There’s no way they’d be able to make it work if they didn’t.
On the other hand, his S/O wants to be an anchor for him. With how much he’s been through they have a hard time believing he can just brush that off so easily like the rest of the team might believe - The price one pays for being so revered...
They manage to make a point one night while Shiro is in the training room, asking if he wants to spar with them instead of the robot so they both get some work in. He agrees, happy to help.
It’s too bad the rest of the paladins aren’t awake at the moment to see it, because the sparring session that ensues is quite a sight to behold. Every move and transition and counter is so smooth.
Shiro comments on how much they’ve improved, and they merely reply with a cheeky “Are you really that surprised?”
He laughs, but doesn’t falter. The session comes to a midpoint and the two take a quick break for water.
“It’s good knowing I have someone like you watching my back,” he chuckles, taking a swig from his water bottle. S/O decides instead to douse themselves a bit with theirs. They nod a bit, but their face looks a bit more serious.
“You can always count on me...even when I’m not throwing punches,” they remind him. He pauses, sensing the underlying emotion in that statement, and sighs.
“I know I can, (Name.)” he says in a reassuring tone, but he can’t help but yell in surprise when he suddenly finds his legs swept out from under him. He falls onto the mat with a grunt, sprawled out in his back and staring up at his S/O, who is now straddling him, in shock.
“You say that...but you still take everything on your shoulders no matter how many times we tell you otherwise...!” S/O scolds. “How am I supposed to believe you when you don’t tell me how to help?” Their voice goes quieter as they slouch forward a bit, anger starting to ebb into tired pleading.
“I’m not going to tell you what you can and can’t do...” they murmur hoarsely as they lock eyes with him. “But...I hoped that you would trust me enough to tell me when you’ve had enough...to come to me once and a while.”
Shiro is speechless at first, mouth dropped open in bewilderment, before his face softens. A soft hand hand touches S/O’s cheek, catching their attention.
“S/O...this’s been bugging you for a long time now, hasn’t it...I’m sorry...”
Dark eyes reflect regret as he pulls them into his chest after sitting up, not too tight, but definitely firm with conviction. “It was never my intention to make you feel like I don’t trust you...that’s the furthest thing from the truth...I was so focused on not wanting you to worry that I made you worry anyway. I guess I’m a bit of a hypocrite that way, huh?”
The two share a small chuckle at that.
“Maybe...but knowing you, you won’t make that mistake again, hm?”
“Well, if you’re going to sweep me every time I do, I better not,” he jokes. There’s silence between the two as they look into each other’s faces, tension passed. S/O, after a moment of consideration, presses a kiss to his mouth, which he happily reciprocates and even deepens a tad to make it last longer. The weariness in his body slowly fades, replaced by a softness comparable to a fleece blanket after a long trek in the cold rain.
“Don’t worry. Even if that happens, I’ll still be there to pull you back up on your feet.”
To sum it up: A first kiss with Shiro is a mark of trust. For Shiro, who tends to put almost too much on himself, it is a sign that he doesn’t have to be the only one to bear the weight. He can finally find refuge in someone who will stand by him through it all and offer him shelter emotionally.
Princess Allura
Ah, yes. A first kiss with a princess. Who hasn’t dreamed about that?
This spirited young lady is torn between propriety and just going for it.
It takes time for Allura to come to grips that she even has feelings for someone because, like Shiro, she has such a strong sense of duty that she believes she has no time for romance.
So a first kiss comes along in a moment of peace after a hard-won victory. Her mood is uplifted and she feels a weight taken off her shoulders. For now at least.
S/O on the other hand, seems..off. Jumpy, nervous, a bit spastic. Could it be some sort of odd Earthling disease??
Determined to find out, Allura starts tracking them down. When she first approaches, S/O seems to panic, which makes her even more concerned.
“You’ve been acting so strangely. What is the matter?” She asks, dainty eyebrows drawn together in concern. Somehow, S/O just looks even more nervewracked as they sputter an excuse before darting off. Allura just stares after them in bewilderment.
After several more attempts, she finally corners them somewhere away from the others. No one to distract them, nothing happening that just so happens to need their attention, nothing. She immediately nips any excuses in the bud as she stared directly into what feels like their soul.
“Now, what in heaven’s name is going on? Have I done something to offend you or what??” She demands, exasperated.
“What? No! You haven’t done anything to me! Er, well, not that way, at least,” S/O yelps as they bumble through an explanation. Their eyes are glued to the floor as they continue. “I...there’s something I need to tell you...I’m just too big a chicken to say anything...”
Her face relaxes a little, going from frustration to concern, though a small smile does grace her face.
“Whatever a chicken is...you are far from one, S/O. What is it you wanted to say?”
Cue more stumbling and awkward pauses before S/O finally just sighs, looking at her with a helpless expression.
“I love you!” they spit out, before slapping a hand over their mouth in horror. S/O was hoping to be more subtle than that!! Allura’s just staring at them; of all things, that was not what she saw coming.
Well, it’s not totally unbelievable...she’s not going deny how close they’ve become over the course of their journey together. The late night chats, the sharing of Altean and Earth cultures, the laughs, the tears...
She thinks back on all those times, and her heart swells as the thoughts in the back of her mind come pouring in. She knew she had treasured their relationship for a long time, but now that S/O had given it a name, she couldn’t deny it.
She snaps out of her reverie when she notices S/O stammering out an apology, voice watery and hollowly casual with a face that screams how much they want to go hide under a rock. Immediately, she is filled with regret because she hadn’t realized she’d tuned out that long, which couldn’t have looked that favorable a response.
Before S/O can run off again, she quietly takes their hand and squeezes it. The gesture cuts them off mid-ramble, making them look at her, puzzled. She just smiles, blue eyes soft and twinkling, as she leans forward to press a kiss to their mouth.
At first, S/O is shocked beyond belief. Could this really be happening after how badly they botched their confession? Then, they just melt into it. There’s this sense of tranquility that seeps into their veins.
It lasts a few seconds before their lips part softly. S/O looks flustered, but smitten, which makes Allura melt inside. She’s used to people pledging loyalty and camaraderie to her, but this is a whole new level.
“Now...before I kiss you again, how about I tell you how I feel, hm?”
To sum it up, a first kiss with Allura is sweet and tender. It’s soothing like a lullaby, but steadfast and sure. She wants S/O to have no doubts about her feelings ever again, so she makes it a point to kiss them often. They’re also a good way for her to relax when things get tense; at the very least, she has her S/O with her during this perilous journey.

University AU - Lance!Baseball
So earlier I made a post about Lance being a baseball player, and I decided to ignore all of my responsibilities and instead just write this full fledged fic based on that post. Honestly I love the university au and I think I might do more, and have them all like connect. But only time will tell. So without further ado, please enjoy my little baseball au.
(Also if you were wondering, everything in this that is baseball related is correct, I’m from a baseball family and have spent years scorekeeping for my little bro’s games, ironically this fic got a little away from me because I got so caught up in the baseball aspect of it. I'd apologize but honestly, I miss baseball so much and this gave me the dopamine I needed, so guess you’ll just have to deal with it. *insert Arianna meme about “what about it” here*)
Lance getting a spot on the team was the second best thing that could have ever happened to him. Lance getting a starting spot on the team, that was the absolute best thing that could happen to him. Every practice, every skirmish, every drill just made him grateful for being a part of the team.
Yeah, the school’s baseball team wasn’t their prize sport, that fell on the football team. But that didn’t mean that it was any easier to get on, and even harder to get play time. So when Lance found out that he wasn’t going to spend his entire first season on the bench, let’s just say the boy saw God.
He just wished his friends were as excited as he was. When he first broke the news he got a few “wow, that’s cool.” or even “nice job Lance” but that was it. There was no genuine surprise or enthusiasm. It hurt, but knowing his friends, he couldn’t fault them. Not when Shiro was literally the starting Running Back for the football team, Hunk being the starting Offensive line, and Allura the starting forward on the girls soccer team. Pidge winning as many science awards as humanly possible, and Keith kicking ass in all his classes. Why would anyone care about some dumb baseball team?
Still he invited them to his first game, and though he hid how much it hurt when they didn’t show he still did extremely well. He made plays like they were second nature, which considering the 10+ years he’s been playing the sport, they basically were.
The longer the season went on, the less it hurt when they didn’t show. His mom, and some of his siblings would, and that’s what really matters. Some of his friends from class did, and that was nice. And his team was always there to keep his head in the game. He was grateful to have become close to so many of them.
Everything was going great, at least he thought they were.
They were having one of their study sessions in Shiro’s room, Keith and Lance studying chemistry while Shiro, Matt and Allura were studying for their Calculus 3 exam, and pidge and hunk doing some lab report for their molecular biology class. Keith was having trouble with one of the problems, huffing loudly every time he got stuck.
“You okay, man?” Lance asked, looking up from his notes.
Keith huffed again, “Yeah, I just can’t get past this fucking thing, I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.”
Lance leaned over to look at the problem, the lightbulb in his head lighting up full force when he recognized the question. He spent the next few minutes explaining to Keith how to approach the problem and walking him through it before Pidge interrupted.
“I thought you sucked at Chem!”
Lance laughed, “I do, but I had the same trouble with it, and my tutor taught me how to do it.”
“Since when did you get a tutor? I thought they were all too expensive?” Keith asked
“Um...the baseball team pays for a tutor for whatever class you need.”
“Wait,” it was Shiro this time, “You’re on the baseball team?” the entire room looked at Lance with a mixture of confusion and shock.
Lance reached up and rubbed the back of his neck before sighing, “Yeah, I told you guys the day the list came out.” he said simply, he didn’t know why, but he was starting to feel a little embarrassed about the situation. So he kept his eyes from looking directly at anyone. “I..um...even invited you guys to a few games at the start of the season…”
Pidge broke out into a fit of laughter, “What? No you didn’t!”
He didn’t mean to wince at her outburst, but he couldn’t help it. It hurt. And he was ashamed that he was able to show it so easily in front of his friends.
“Yeah, I did. You said something along the lines of ‘but it's literally soooo boring’” Lance let his shoulders sag before pulling his phone out of his sweater pocket and checking the time. “Honestly, its no big deal, but I do have to go. Got practice before the game tonight.” he quickly packed up his stuff and made a hasty retreat from Shiro’s room, mumbling his goodbyes.
The group sat in the silence for a few too many seconds. Their eyes trained on the door that their friend all but ran out of. How did none of them realize it? How did they not know? Lance, the guy who literally never stops talking, who’s so excited to share his most recent life update. If what he said was true, then what kind of friends were they?
Lance went to as many football and soccer games as he could to support his friends. Was always up for celebrating Pidge’s success, and never failed to congratulate Keith on his recent exam score.
Matt was the first one to speak, “Anyone else get the feeling that we’ve royally fucked up?”
“What do we do?” his sister asked, it was clear that she was the one who felt the most guilty, she remembered saying just that to Lance. She didn’t mean anything with it, she was just talking, and it was true, she didn’t really like baseball. But he seemed so hurt by it.
Shiro got up and took his phone off of the charger that sat on the other side of his bed.
“Shiro?”
“I’m checking the game schedule.” He said, typing into his phone. “He has a game in two hours.”
Everyone took that as the deciding factor. They were going to continue studying for another hour before heading down to the baseball field. They were finally going to watch their friend play.
It was much too easy for Lance to forget everything that had happened in his friend’s room once practice started. He went through the drills and ran his laps with a clear head, his teammates joking along with him.
He was way too engrossed in practice that he didn’t even notice his friends make their way to some seats behind home plate, snacks in hand.
They watched him through practice, none of them really knowing what was happening.
“They all look the same.” Keith grumbled, “Which one is he?”
Hunk looked at the program he had managed to grab on their way in, “Number 15, damn, apparently he’s starting short stop and plays 2nd and Left field!”
“I’m going to be honest, Hunk” Shiro laughed, “But 90% of us don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Hunk joined in on the laugher, taking a bite out of his warm pretzel which definitely needed more salt “All you guys need to know is he’s really good.”
Hunk was right, once the game started, it was clear that Lance was insanely good. The times that a ball was hit to him, you could count on that guy getting out. He never dropped a catch, all of his throws were precise and even from where they sat, they could hear the power the ball held once it hit the target glove.
“Coming up to the plate, Straight from Varadero Cuba, Shortstop and Second Baseman, #15 Leandro Serrano!”
Hunk leans forward, his attentiveness surging everyone else to do the same as they watched Lance swing his bat a few times before stepping into the box. He swings his bat a few more times keeping his eyes on the pitcher as he finally settles into his stance.
The first pitch was much too low, Lance knew it the moment it left the pitcher’s hands. “Ball” he heard the umpire behind him. He waited patiently, the guy wasn’t throwing hard, and honestly if he wasn’t so focused he probably would have smiled. If the guy were to throw at the right height, he’d have no problem launching the ball out into the outfield bringing in one, maybe even two runs and leaving him on second.
The next pitch was a little outside, but he knew if he were to skip this one it would be counted as a strike anyways. He watched as his bat tipped it and sent the ball flying to the left, never crossing the foul line. He took a step back to shake it off, loosen up his muscles before reentering the box and taking his stance back up. He heard the count, 1-1 as he did so.
Somehow, he knew the next pitch was his. Something in his stomach just told him that no matter what, he had to swing. So he did, timing it perfectly he watched the ball make contact and fly off of his bat. The second it did so, he dropped the bat and ran to first, looking up as he rounded the base just in time to watch the ball completely clear the back fence. He never stopped running as he kissed the necklace that hung around his neck and pointed a number one up to the sky, the stands erupting into complete joyous chaos as player after player crossed home plate safely.
No one was expecting to see something like that. To say that the group of teens were surprised was an understatement. They cheered and remained in awe of their friend, who seemed so in his element on the field. The first two pitches made them anxious, but the third, man the third sent all of them out of their seats as they joined the rest of the stands to celebrate what the announcer stated as a three run homerun.
As the game progressed, it became evident that Lance was one hell of a player, catching three fly balls, starting three double plays, and launching a throw from left field all the way to home, just in the nick of time to get the runner out.
In the end, Altea U won with a score of 8 while University of Galran made out with a measly 2.
The group of friends waited outside the locker rooms, still jittery from the excitement of the game.
“Who was it that said that baseball was boring?” Keith joked, poking the clearly excited Pidge in her side.
“Hey! All I know of baseball comes from the few times I would walk in on my grandpa watching it on TV, and it was definitely boring then!”
A few minutes later, the team exited the locker rooms, still dressed in their uniforms, but in a much more casual way. They quickly spotted Lance, his jersey unbuttoned and showing his light blue undershirt, shouldering his bag, with a bat in hand. He was joking with some other guys as they walked before he heard his name.
“Lance! Lance!”
“Yoooo, you guys came?” He walked over to them, no one missed the way his eyes held a different, happier kind of light.
Everyone took their turns hugging him and congratulating him on his game, and he'd be lying if he said he didn’t feel like crying of happiness right now. His friends were here, they had seen his game, they sat in the stands and watched him play. It was such an unreal feeling.
“Dude, how come you never told us you were a fucking beast?” Matt all but yelled, pulling Lance into a tight hug.
“No wonder you guys are undefeated, they had no chance!” Shiro exclaimed, clamping his hand on Lance’s shoulder.
In the end, they decided to go out for some cheeseburgers in honor of Lance’s win. Everyone hopped into Shiro’s car, and those who didn’t - Keith, went with Lance. They had walked to the car in silence, not completely awkward, but one that Keith at least thought was a little unsettling. But whenever he looked up at Lance, that stupid beaming smile of his, it pushed the uneasiness away.
“...You know...that first hit...that was awesome” He said, sliding into the passenger seat as Lance put his bag in the trunk. He almost thought the boy did hear him- almost. Lance quickly slid into the driver’s seat, buckled his seat belt and started the car before turning to Keith.
“Thanks man, honestly I’m so glad you guys got to see that!”
The burger place they chose wasn’t too far, and soon they were all taking a seat at a table, laughing and joking. Lance being his goofball self. He had just told the most obnoxious yet hilarious joke that had the entire table keeling over in laughter when the cashier called his order number. Keith watched as Lance got up and walked to the counter, he hadn’t even noticed what he was doing until Pidge elbowed him in the ribcage.
“Baseball pants, right?” She asked jokingly, sending the entire table into another laughing frenzy and Keith’s cheeks an embarrassing red.

Keith is a leg man. Through and through he just loves legs. So when Lance, who he already finds hotter than fire, walks in wearing tiny lil booty shorts K loses his mind. Cue his will finally snapping and he pushes L against a wall before pressing kisses to every inch of those long long legs, eating him out, and finally getting to fuck him.
Ohohohohoh <3
He’s doing it again, Keith notes as he glances over the top of his textbook.
Lance has been doing this thing where he shows off his legs a lot in the apartment. Ever since that drinking night with the group and Keith admitted out loud that his favorite feature in a partner is great legs. Long muscular legs with a matching firm behind. Everyone admitted to something or another that night but that was Keith’s confession and since then…Lance has been doing things like wearing shorts or just his boxers around.
Keith thought at first it was a jab at him. Some kind of joke on Lance’s part to remind him of how wasted he was that night. To make fun of him and consequently embarrass him around the apartment. But it’s grown into something more than that. When at first there was a lot of laughing at Keith’s preferences, now there’s only glances. Knowing glances.
It still feels like teasing but…a different and more charged kind of teasing.
Now he’s leaning on the counter that divides the kitchen from the living room. Scrolling through his phone with a bored look before flitting his eyes up to look at Keith on the couch. Keith, who gets caught scanning up his exposed legs again and hurriedly looks back down at his book. Makes Lance smirk and put his phone down on the counter before sauntering to the couch. He flops onto it, stretching out and clicking on the tv.
“Hey,” Lance calls over. “Cool if I lay like this?”
“Whatever,” Keith huffs.
He tries to ignore the legs stretching out on top of his lap and focus. Focus. Focus. But they keep moving. Lance rolls his ankles to crack them, lifts his legs to adjust them into crossing before laying them back down on Keith’s warm lap, shifting and rubbing and–
“Stop moving,” Keith manages to utter.
“Make me,” Lance smirks.
Why? Why did he say that? Because now he feels a need to—Keith drops his book to the side and grabs Lance by his knee, stilling his leg. Lance looks down at those hot fingers squeezing his flesh with surprise but mostly with interest. He shifts his other leg into sliding across Keith’s lap and fast as lightning Keith’s other hand grabs that leg too.
“I told you to stop moving,” Keith repeats but his breath is a little shaky. His fingers twitch on Lance’s skin, itching to move higher than his knees.
“And I said–” Lance sits up, his face getting close to Keith’s with flashing defiant eyes. “–make me.”
Lance pulls a leg out of Keith’s hold but not for long. Keith grabs it again and yanks Lance down the couch. Something in him snaps then. Suddenly he’s over Lance who struggles (but not too much) under him with grunts and gasps as limbs move and writhe.
When Keith grab him by his hips? When did he flip him onto his knees? When did he pull those absurd tiny shorts down to Lance’s ankles? He doesn’t know how it all happened only that now his hands are holding and squeezing hard on Lance’s thighs, his tongue sliding between Lance’s cheeks to tease at his puckered hole, and Lance gripping tight to the arm of the couch while moaning Keith’s name. When Keith’s tongue presses past that tight ring of muscle to penetrate Lance keens loudly.
“Y-Yeah th-that’s it,” Lance moans into the cushions. “M-Make me…t-take it…Keith…”
He doesn’t bother with removing any clothes. Keith flips Lance onto his back, unzips his own jeans and pulls his hard cock out. With Keith’s cock slathered in spit he pushes into Lance’s asshole. It’s tight since he didn’t do much prep but Lance takes it with an agreeable moan, rocking and gasping with each thrust. Keith’s hands roam down Lance’s legs to hold them tight and keep him spread as he snaps his hips forward while Lance grips the couch arm again up above him to keep himself stable as Keith plows him.
“This is…what you…get for being…stubborn,” Keith pants heavy as he fucks him.
“Y-Yeah, fuck yeah…” Lance moans. “M-More Keith…”
“Walking around in those…shorts…teasing me and…not listening,” Keith tells him, his fingers squeezing to bruise those perfect thighs. “If you…do that again…I’ll have to…punish you like this again.”
“Challenge…accepted,” Lance says with a smirk gracing his flushed face.

Voltron MMORPG AU: Chapter 2
alright here’s the next segment of overly elaborate headcanons. we’re finally getting some real klance lads
side note for people who dont RP: double parentheses ((like this)) indicate that the real person, i.e. lance or keith, is the one speaking. proper grammar is used for when they are making their original characters speak.
Chapter 1 | Chapter 3
finally, f i n a l l y, they are all playing voltron together
coran and pidge are still caught up in raiding and player-versus-player, but coran makes time on the side occasionally to act as dungeon master for the others, when they want to go on a particularly epic quest
meanwhile pidge adamantly proclaims they are all dorks, and when she attends their roleplaying sessions in-game, she insists that she is “only here to keep the high level elite creatures in this zone from killing you all while you're singing campfire songs like a bunch of camp rock dweebs”
when she eventually starts joining in on the roleplay here and there, under the guise of doing it “ironically,” no one comments on it
matt kind of gradually integrates himself alongside shiro. he shares absolutely none of pidge's qualms with the concept of RP, and in fact played a lot of dungeons & dragons as a teenager, so he manages to acclimate fairly easily
allura and keith both have a hard time getting into the idea of roleplaying. it strikes them as silly and they have trouble letting go of their dignity a little. lance whinges about them both having “major party pooper sticks up your butts come ONNN” but all the while, he is gently steering them in the right direction and subtly teaching them how to loosen up a little and immerse themselves in the fantasy world he has grown to love
sometimes they decide to hang out in heavily populated in-game cities together, where they can people-watch and build casual camaraderie among their characters. and perhaps interact with the occasional random player brave enough to approach their group's table in the tavern
“its not really OUR table” shiro points out one day when they walk into the tavern to find their usual seats occupied by other players
“YES IT IS” -keith and lance, in unison, approximately 29 seconds before their first RP bar fight
they decide eventually to create their own adventurer's guild so that they can easily connect with each other when they are online
shiro wants to name the guild “the paladins of voltron,” but pretty much everyone protests on the grounds of “shiro, you're the ONLY paladin in this guild”
the only exception is hunk, of course, who assures shiro that it is a very cool name, but perhaps they could just edit it slightly? maybe change “paladins” to something more class-neutral? like, “lions” perhaps?
yeah. yeah, “the lions of voltron” seems to work with everyone. whether that's because it's a good name, or because hunk is the one suggesting it, no one could tell you
as they all grow more comfortable with RP, their characters start developing bonds with each other
allura and matt, the guild's healers, hit it off swimmingly. they enjoy making their characters dramatic and exasperated with everything the others do. matt jokingly gives his character an enormous, embarrassing crush on allura's character just for the laughs
keith and pidge's characters both have dark, edgy pasts. pidge made hers extra dark because she wanted be funny, but keith seems to really enjoy the way their characters can bond over their shared trauma. she suspects there is an underlying reason for that and decides to never reveal that she intended for it to be a joke
the most interesting of all is, of course, the relationship between keith and lance's characters
everyone expects them to be rivals, to bicker constantly, etc
partially as a prank and partially because they think it would be fun to RP, they decide behind-the-scenes to make their characters the best of friends
“Oh, Keith, you are so strong and heroic!”
“I would be weak if not for the strength you gave me, my one true friend in this cold, dark world...”
“I am so glad I have a great warrior like you by my side...”
“You are my rock.”
“... even if you have a weird name.”
“((for the last time get off my case about the name, lance))”
“((literally never gonna happen. die mad))”
it starts to affect their relationship in the real world too, slowly, at first in the form of jokingly mimicking their characters' dynamic:
“oh, mighty keith, i require the salt on the other end of the table. would you please bless me with your aid”
“but of course, noble lance, i hereby entrust you with my sacred salt and place it in your skillful hands”
“illustrious keith?”
“yes, immaculate lance?”
“thats gay”
“fuck you”
R O M A N T I C T E N S I O N in the R E A L W O R L D
nobody fucking addresses it but everybody knows it's there. way worse than it ever was before somehow, which is saying something honestly. and it only gets worse as the days and weeks pass
“if I may say, good sir keith, you look particularly dashing today in this black ensemble of yours”
“why thank you dearest friend lance, i chose this specially to please you”
“then you may certainly consider yourself successful in this endeavour”
are they complimenting each other as a joke??? why do their eyes go half-lidded and their lips quirk lopsidedly when they shower each other in praise?? nobody knows
thats a lie. everybody fucking knows

Shance Fic Recs
Well, while I was in my AO3 profile, I realized how many bookmarks I have! So I've decided to make fic recommendation lists. [This list will have other parts, and I include fics with Kuro and Sven]
1- Black to Blue by PuppetMaster55
Lance, the undisputed (no longer, since he finally got the team to stop questioning his position like a month ago) leader of Voltron finds himself in the absolute strangest scenario: being the Blue Paladin.
Lance, still finding his place on team Voltron, wakes up to the weirdest world: one where he's the Black Paladin.
OR, I take a universe where Lance was always the Black Paladin and have him swap bodies with canon Lance, throwing both sets of teams for a trip.
[This fic is the beginning of a series in process, super recommended]
2- Black & Blue by starboyshiro (this author writes a lot of love to Shiro)
“Something wrong, babe? Did you have a bad day or something?” Shiro asks, plopping down on the couch next to Lance.
“Nothing happened, I'm just looking at all of these cute cats thinking about how much I want one, but can't have one.” Lance frowns, resting his head on Shiro's shoulder as he continues to scroll through Instagram.
Shiro can't stand to see his boyfriend upset. That's been a proven fact since Day One of their relationship. It's only natural that when Lance mentions his disappointment at never owning a cat, Shiro goes above and beyond to cheer him up…
3- I Fold by starboyshiro [Explicit]
“Do you even know who I am?”
“Am I supposed to?”
“Most people around here do.”
An intense poker game turns into a rather steamy night. Can this scrawny grad student handle the force of the famous journalist Takashi Shirogane?
4- Is That A Bowl Of Popcorn In Your Lap Or Are You Just Happy To See Me? by munchiesafterdark [Explicit]
“How many bags should I do?” Shiro called, waving the four unopened packs in his hand at Lance questioningly.
“I think two should be fine,” Lance shrugged. “We can always pop more if… we…” He trailed off, train of thought vacating the station as Shiro turned his back to him to put the remaining packs of popcorn into the cabinets. His hips swayed to an unheard rhythm, defined muscles flexing as he reached up and slid the popcorn into place on the top shelf. Lance’s eyes trailed down to the V of his back, the sweats hanging low enough for him to spot the curve of his round ass. Yet another anomaly of those pants was the manner in which they accentuated his bottom while still remaining baggy around his legs.
The obnoxious ding of the microwave nearly startled Lance out of his skin. His shift on the couch must have been audible, Shiro raised a brow at him over his shoulder, a cocky smirk crossing his lips as he leaned over to retrieve the finished bag of popcorn.
Fuck, he was toying with him! Well, two could play that game!
5- Nasty Smoothie by strawberrylovely
Lance works in a smoothie shop. Twice a week, a certain customer comes in and orders a nasty smoothie. Lance is head over heels.
6- A Hit and A Miss (tletoe) by strawberrylovely
Basically, Lance goes to a party with Hunk and blows his friend a kiss. However, he wasn’t expecting the cute stranger standing in front of Hunk to think the kiss was for him.
7- you should let me (love you) by godsensei
There’s something in the bathtub. Suddenly, Lance is pissed at his past self for watching so many horror movies with creepy shower scenes. He’s certainly too young and beautiful to die like this, right?
Right, totally.
He hesitates, but creeps forward, peeking slowly behind the curtain.
Hm. There’s a hot guy in there.
8- just call me daddy by proletaricat [Explicit and omegaverse]
It's the typical a/b/o story - someone's off their suppressants, surprise heats, bam sex! Except this time Lance escapes capture with the help of Hunk and Shiro has to apologize for his behavior later, interrupting Lance in the middle of his Altean telenovela. Then they bang. It's... it's basically just a PWP with daddy kink and knotting.
9- Sometimes Playing Around with the Occult Can Turn Out Well (Like... REALLY well) by gorgawesome [Explicit]
Lance had the best costume prepared for this Halloween Party. He was totally gonna slay and finally get laid for the first time in MONTHS!
Except it's Halloween Night and he's stuck looking after the family bookstore, because local robberies or something. Honestly? He was too busy pouting to be listening.
Can an awful, boring night turn for the better? Yes. Yes, it can.
10- I found religion between your thighs by KillTheDirector [in process]
He had been topside for over four decades, enjoying the freedom he never had down in the pit. Routines were established then broken then reestablished, but Shiro abided by them because that’s what kept him alive.
Then he met a witch that was more suited to being an incubus than him.
11- One Symbol Off by Silas_Writes [Explicit]
anonymous whispered: Incubus/succubus shiro and witch lance use summoning circles and potions inappropriately
12- To Seduce the Seducer by singtolife [Explicit]
At a college party, Shiro meets Lance, and they hit it off immediately. Only to find out after they have sex that this amazingly sexy guy was a little too good to be true.
13- Blue Skies in Stockholm by Shanced [Explicit, non-con and Kuro]
Lance gets captured by Shiro (who was fused with Kuro by Haggar) and the rest is self indulgent kinky sex. Lance gets raped and wrecked by Shiro and develops Stockholm syndrome, or the likes of it, Shiro can apparently unfuse with Kuro and they have a really good time.
14- Treadmill by kitausu
At 2 minutes of torture in, Lance heard the buzz/click noise of someone’s electronic key activating and opening the door to the gym. And of course, because this was Lance’s life, Hunk had pushed him onto a treadmill with a mirror right in front, affording him an absolutely stunning view of the man walking through the door.
Had Lance loved till now? He was pretty sure that he had never even felt an emotion before seeing the beautiful male specimen reflected beside his face in the mirror.
or, Lance waxes poetic about Shiro's everything, and Hunk set it all up in the first place.
15- Black & Blue & Red All Over by thesynapticsnap
When Lance shows up to the gym with a limp and covered in bruises, Shiro assumes the worst (spoiler: It’s nothing bad! Nor anything kinky, surprisingly).
16- Car Door Blues by ShiekahKami
Shiro never would have expected that accidentally knocking that cute guy out could change his life for the better.
17- Give It a Shance by YonaDawn [in process]
The domestic life of Shance. At least until they become Twitter and Youtube famous. Then it's a wild domestic life.
18- Bowling for Balls? by EllaAniMine
They were just supposed to be bowling... It was harmless fun, or it was supposed to be.
Lance thought he was being funny, but a message that was supposed to be a joke was sent, and now Lance isn't laughing.
19- llévame si quieres by kalakauuas
Shiro takes his dogs to the park and meets the world’s cutest uncle and his niece.
"Lance and his little niece, petting Shiro’s dog, looking soft and serene; it’s like nothing could ever be truly wrong in the world if this is able to happen. What Shiro wouldn’t give to have this sight in front of him over and over again. He scratches Sirius behind the ears, and gets a reassuring lick in return as an act of solidarity. You’ve got this. Man’s best friend, for real."
20- (Mg,Fe2+)2(Mg,Fe2+)5Si8O22(OH)2 by starboyshiro
Lance and Shiro decided to expand their little family and adopt a dog. What they name him is rather questionable.
21- You're Worth More by AbandonedLibrary
Lance wanted to prove his pod his worth after that jackass rolo came in with black pearls in hand.
As the pearl expert in the group he needed to keep his name sake.
Though... Lance learned there are things worth more than pretty pearls.
22- Curiosity Caught a Cat by c0cunt
Shiro has been distancing himself from his friends and family for a long time. All he really has now is Matt's cat, Zekrom. At least, until a man crashes into his balcony to pet his cat.
23- Head Over Heels by saecchii [Kemonomimi and Explicit]
Shiro gains a new roommate, who he is absolutely smitten with.
24- Stray Cats by kitausu
Lance is really enamored with the cute guy who keeps coming into his pet store and buying WAY too much cat food.
or, Shiro moves into a new apartment and sees how many strays there are in the parking lot and just HAS to feed them.
25- Kiss the Bees by kitausu
Lance is smitten with the beekeeper next door.
26- BlueVoice by kitausu [Explicit]
Lance runs a relatively popular voice RP blog and one day hears his own voice coming out of the headphones of the really hot guy next to him at the gym.
27- Change of Plans by kitausu
When Shiro is left at the alter, he decides to go on his honeymoon alone. Enter Lance, the man Shiro had hired to take him and his would-be bride on a month long tour of Europe.
28- To The Grooms by AChapterCanBeABook
There is no better way to celebrate the best day of your life than reminiscing with the people who you love the most and who have been with you through nearly every step in your life. Let's not forget a little bit of embarrassment which goes along with best men speeches, especially if your best man is your brother and the other best man is his accomplice in this whole thing. nevertheless, it doesn't fail in livening up a wedding as well as making in just that much more sentimental.
29- Tell the Truth by thesynapticsnap
Lance is bitten by a 'love bug', turning him into a blushing, stammering mess around his crush- Shiro. Shiro helps him deal with the negative side effects, learning more about Lance's crush and considering his own feelings as they talk.
30- Guess Again by thesynapticsnap
Keith confronts Lance about something he witnessed during a team mind-melding exercise…too bad he’s got the wrong culprit.
31- Smooth by thesynapticsnap
Lance’s first meeting with Shiro doesn’t go as planned – it turns out so much better than he expected.
32- Blind Date by kitausu
“What’s the crisis? I thought you had a blind date? Didn’t go well?”
Lance wailed, collapsing into the couch with a dramatic sigh.
“Yesss, Hunk. He’s too handsome. He’s just so hot. You would not believe what he did to me. I still can’t believe it.”
or, Lance goes on a blind date and can't handle how hot Shiro is.
33- SandMan by Might_suck_but_thats_ok
Shiro goes on a blind date with Lance.
34- Lucky by zombiegardener
Shiro accidentally tells Keith that he's dating one of his frenemies from high school over a Saturday morning phone call, because how is this his life?
35- Boundaries by zombiegardener
It's really hard to keep a relationship secret when you're making out in the middle of a hallway.
36- beauty queen on the silver screen (living life like i'm in a dream) by heavenlyrare
What do you give to someone who already holds the world in their palms?
OR
The sweaters Shiro’s mom knits him every Christmas actually serves a greater purpose for once.
37- Text Me by strawberrylovely
Shiro, trying to get away from two girls who won't stop flirting with him, sits down next to a stranger who he pretends is his boyfriend. The stranger, who has pretty blue eyes, goes along with it.
38- Undateable by strawberrylovely
Lance just wishes someone would date him. Shiro offers to do just that.
39- Black Friday by strawberrylovely
Lance is gonna get that stand mixer. Unless of course a handsome stranger gets to it first.
40- Midnight Tradition by strawberrylovely
Lance goes to a New Years party and meets a guy named Shiro. They may be strangers, but they kiss at midnight anyway. After the party, Lance doesn’t think he’ll ever see Shiro again. That is until the next New Years party when the two meet again and a tradition starts.

Late Night - March Klance Prompts from MonthlyKlance
It was late, so very late, Lance worked his shoulders back and forth to ease the tension and headed for the kitchen. As he suspected Hunk was busy puttering about.
"Hunk, my man, what is the late-night kitchen serving tonight." Lance asked sliding into a stool.
"Oh, hey Lance," Hunk nodded to muffins he was pulling out of a pan and putting into a container. "I just made these ahead for in the morning."
"Oh." Lance tried not to look disappointed.
"Hey, but there's extra, want one?" Hunk passed one to him.
"Well, if it's extra." Lance snatched the muffin and took a big bite. "Oh wow, now I will not have trouble waking up in the morning, these will be so worth it."
Hunk smiled proudly as Lance made obscene noises while he finished the muffin.
"Speaking of getting up, dude, you better head that way, hadn't you? It's like 1:00 castle time." Lance added.
"Oh, oh wow, I didn't realize. I guess I just got to thinking about today's mission and needed to do something to not think about it." Hunk muttered looking a little embarrassed.
"Nah, don't think about that anymore, think about how much we are all going to love these muffins and how you are going to have to make sure you have the ingredients around to keep making them, because they are going to be in demand!" Lance exclaimed dramatically while slipping an arm around Hunk and steering him toward his room.
"Oh, I can add the ingredients that are new to the stock list for Coran. He does a really good job keeping the pantry full when he knows what I want. I'll add the recipe to my file." Hunk yawned. "I bet I could modify the flavor as well, use it as a base recipe." Hunk crawled into bed and Lance pulled the cover up over his friend. He could tell how tired the big man already was, because he hardly noticed when Lance yanked his shoes off and turned the light out.
"Sleep tight." He murmured and headed off for his next victim.
"Piiidddggggge?" Lance called sticking his head into Green's hanger. The person in question looked up from her laptop, eyes bloodshot and hair sticking out every which way.
"Go away." She snarled.
"Pidge, you need sleep. Come on. You just got out of the cryopod and I know how tired that makes you."
Pidge's eyes softened a little, reminding herself that Lance had been in the pods too many times already.
"Sleep, Pidge, you are a genius, but even geniuses work better on sleep. You'll probably go twice as fast." He grinned elbowing her.
"Not unless the computer gets faster." She laughed.
"Come on, piggy back ride?" He offered and she jumped at his back.
"Giddyup!" She laughed the way she only did when she was really tired and out of it. Almost like for a moment she forgot everything going on around her and was just a young kid playing.
By the time Lance got her back to her room she was pretty much drooling on his back. He flopped her onto the bed and tossed the covers over her. He tried not to think of her floating in the cryopod or the tears she cursed at when she was sitting on the table in the med bay while Coran set her broken leg. He huffed a sigh and pressed a kiss to her forehead, the thought of something happening to her filled him with icy dread. He shivered and made his way out of her room. She was too much like one of his sisters, just like Hunk was his brother and they were both as precious to him as his biological family.
Speaking of family, he saw Shiro wondering the hall, headed toward the bridge.
"Shiro?" Lance ran up to him and put a hand on his shoulder. The older man swung back with an elbow and yelled before falling forward onto the ground.
"Shit." Lance flinched at the pain in his cheek where the elbow connected and kneeled in front of Shiro. His eyes were open, but he really didn't seem to be seeing him. Must be sleepwalking again, or a flashback, or both somehow, what did he know he wasn't a shrink. "Hey, Shiro. Hey man, you're in the castle. It's just me, Lance. Hey, it's okay. I think I'm not supposed to wake you up, but I don't know how else to get you back to bed. So…" Lance reached out and touched Shiro's hand softly speaking quietly and rhythmically until Shiro's eyes seemed to focus on him.
"Lance?"
"Oh, hey Shiro, I think you must have been sleepwalking, ‘cause I just found you out here. You okay?"
"Oh, yeah, sorry, I was dreaming." Shiro blushed. "Sorry, thanks for waking me. Guess I should lock the door huh?" Shiro tried to joke, but he sounded sad and tired.
"What were you dreaming about?" Lance asked carefully.
"I was looking for someone, but I couldn't find them." Shiro answered eyes averting down and to the left, obviously not something he wanted to give details about.
"Oh, I can see why you were wondering around then, huh?"
"Why are you up?" Shiro asked making note of how late it was.
"Oh, just getting some water, going to bed now. Want to walk with me?"
"Sure, I'll walk you back." Shiro stood and helped Lance up from the floor.
Lance smiled, he'd never get Shiro to just go back to his room, but he would never turn down walking Lance back if he asked. Of course, Shiro's room was just one down, so it worked out great. Lance waited at his door until Shiro slipped into his. He then sat on his bed for a few dobashes to be sure Shiro wouldn't hear him when he went back out.
He did this almost every night. It wasn't the same people every night. Pidge was pretty common and actually was usually a lot harder to get to bed. Hunk could be found after anything stressful. Shiro was random. Allura was rare, but he'd found her twice just walking the halls complaining she couldn't sleep. Coran he'd only found once, after the whole haunting thing, going over code in the pods crying. There was only one that was there almost every night, the one he still had to go get.
He took a deep breath and stood, his own weariness weighing him down, but he'd need to shake that off to move this one, especially tonight. Pidge had gotten hurt when she and Keith had infiltrated a computer hub on a Galra ship. Keith would be blaming himself, though it was not his fault in any way. It had been a trap and they'd been caught in a crossfire. Keith was contrary at the best of times, he'd be downright hateful tonight or this morning or whatever it was in the middle of late-night hell.
He got up from the bed and made his way to the training room. Sure enough, there was the sound of metal crashing into metal coming from the room. He slipped in and watched for a few dobashes as Keith destroyed the training bots in front of him. Lance had no idea what level this was, but he was almost sure Shiro would not approve of Keith doing it on his own. He'd once made the mistake of stopping him mid simulation and Keith had not spoken to him for three days. Lance shuddered, how he found out the silent treatment was the best way to torture Lance he had no idea, but it had sucked.
When the last bot cleared and before the next set could drop Lance called out, "End simulation!"
Keith whirled on him dark eyes flashing and sword still held in his grip, "I wasn't done."
"Dude, it's 2:30 castle time, we have to be up at 6:00. Even you need sleep, Mullet brain." Lance snarked.
"I'm not tired. Why don't you just leave me alone?!" He snarled.
"Just go to bed Keith." Lance sighed yawning.
"Sounds like you're the one that needs to go to bed. Just go and leave me alone." Keith turned back like he was going to have another go.
"Keith, I can always just go get Shiro." Lance pulled out the big guns.
"Why can't you just mind your own business? Why can't you leave me alone? I swear, mabye if you did a little more training yourself you wouldn't have to go get Shiro to make me leave." Keith jabbed.
"Look, you want to fight fine." Lance grabbed a staff from the rack behind him and threw one to Keith. "Bring it on, Samurai."
"Oh you think you can take me?" Keith growled.
"I think my little sister could take you right now, you're exhausted and completely unfocused." Lance snapped back.
"Like you'd know!" Keith drove at him and brought the staff down, Lance parried, but the hit jarred his arms.
"Does that even make sense?" Lance swung the staff around and blocked Keith's attempt to hit his knee.
"You are never focused, you never pay attention. It's like you don't even care!" Keith spat.
"I care, just because I don't have a meltdown and smash things doesn't mean I don't care!" Lance backed up a bit as Keith drove forward hard and his words stung.
"Whatever! You care about yourself! Why are you even here?" Keith snapped bringing the staff around and connecting with Lance's side.
Lance hissed and wrapped an arm around his side, dropping his staff. "Well unless you have another paladin up your sleeve, I guess you’re stuck with me." Lance choked out the words, “Just go the fuck to bed."
"That's not what I…are you okay?" Keith realized maybe he'd pushed a little too far. He was angry at himself and he shouldn't have taken it out on Lance. He'd meant why was Lance trying to get him to go to bed, not why was he here on the team.
Lance laughed hollowly, "Whatever. Just go to bed, Mullet. I'm tired." Lance left the training room and Keith stared after him for several ticks before heading off to his own room.
***
The next morning, he was sitting at the table enjoying the new muffins Hunk had made when he realized Lance wasn't up yet and it was almost time for training. The boy in question came tearing around the corner into the kitchen out of breath, hair a mess and marks from his pillow still on his face.
"Shit, sorry Shiro, I slept through the alarm." Lance announced looking somewhat embarrassed.
"Get something quick, Lance then meet us in the training room when you've had a chance to change." Shiro patted him on the shoulder as he went out. "I know you were up late."
Keith narrowed his eyes. Usually Shiro would be mad at someone for being late. Pidge gave Lance a quick hug on the way past and hurried off to change. She seemed more rested than usual.
Hunk dropped a muffin in Lance's hand, "I know you like them."
Keith frowned. Hunk had said they were a new recipe.
Lance fell into his chair at the table, Keith looked a little closer and startled.
"Do you have a black eye?" Keith walked over next to him and got in his face.
"Oh, you noticed that,” Lance gave a nervous laugh, "totally hit myself in the face with a staff yesterday. Kind of embarrassing, if you don't mind not mentioning it. I thought I got it covered up."
"Oh, okay, well I guess it's pretty hard to see." Keith wondered how bad it looked without the makeup. "You sure you don't need Coran to look at it."
"Nope, fine." Lance shoved a muffin in his mouth, "Shouldn't you be getting to training?"
Keith narrowed his eyes and stared at Lance for a good ten ticks before he walked out the door. He wondered if Lance had even gone to sleep after he'd left the training area. He cringed remembering some of the stuff he'd said. He didn't really mean it. He was just upset about the mission gone wrong and had wanted to take it out on the bots, then Lance had gotten in the way and he'd taken it out on him instead.
He sighed as he slipped into the training room remembering the hit, he'd given Lance to his side. He wondered if that had left a bruise, probably. He felt guilt worm its way around his gut. Lance'd just been trying to help.
"Hey Hunk?" Keith asked.
"Hmm?" Hunk turned his head, he was already going through the warm up stretches Shiro usually had them doing.
"How did you know Lance liked the muffins? I thought they were new?"
"Oh, he was up last night when I finished them. I stress bake and I was a little upset about the mission." Hunk admitted.
"Yeah, me too." Keith nodded a suspicion forming in his mind.
"Pidge?" He called her over to where he and Hunk were sitting. "Did you see Lance last night?"
"Yep, he literally carried me to bed." She smiled sadly. "Matt used to do that." Then gruffly swatted Hunk, "Get moving I want to spare."
"Great, Keith, now she's going to pretend she's not upset by beating me up." Hunk huffed good naturedly and headed over to Pidge quite willing to take a beating to make her feel better.
Before Lance slipped in to join the training, Keith had come up with a plan.
***
Later that night, Keith snuck out from his room to the training area as usual. He wondered why he hadn't noticed before, but almost every time he trained overly late, Lance had showed up to kick him to bed. There were a few exceptions, nights when Lance had been in a pod, nights when Shiro came and got him, nights when he only trained for about an hour and crawled into bed around 1:00.
And to be honest, he wasn't usually very gracious about it. Sure, some nights Lance would say "lights out" or something and Keith would be tired enough to put his bayard down and tromp off to bed, but a lot of nights ended with complaining, arguing or fighting with Lance about him training too much or not sleeping enough.
Keith sighed and apparently Lance was following up on the others as well. He'd managed to wheedle out of Shiro that he'd seen Lance up at night too. Keith knew Shiro had night terrors and had caught him sleep walking a few times himself, so it wasn't hard to imagine the circumstances where Lance might find him and the reasons Shiro really didn't want to discuss it. It also explained why he knew Lance was tired sometimes, he'd seen him up in the middle of the night and was well aware he hadn't gotten enough sleep.
Sure enough, around 2:00 the Blue Paladin slipped through the door to the training area.
"Keith, Samurai hour is over, go to bed." Lance whined.
"Okay." Keith smirked a little at the shocked look on Lance's face when he just agreed. "I was getting ready to quit anyway. You're up late?"
"Oh, I um, yeah." Lance shrugged. "I guess the clashing of sword on bot woke me up."
"Can't hear that from our rooms." Keith pointed out as he walked out of the training area.
"Well maybe I could." Lance blustered.
"Nope." Keith stared at him and waited.
"Okay, fine I was up anyway. I was dragging a little gremlin to bed and heard you training." Lance huffed.
"You do that a lot?" Keith asked quietly.
"Not too much, just sometimes, I mean she'd never sleep if she could get away with it." Lance smiled fondly.
"And me, you come here a lot and get me, don't you get tired? I usually take like a nap and then get up and train, you're just staying up?" Keith frowned.
"What? No. I nap." Lance waved him off but refused to meet his eyes.
"Okay." Keith realized they had walked all the way back to their rooms. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight." Lance ducked into his door and Keith slipped into his.
***
Even after a shower and dressing in his comfortable sleep pants and a t-shirt, Keith still couldn't relax. It was like there was something off, missing, he'd missed something. Lance had been lying about napping, but then how much was he sleeping, and why wasn't he sleeping. Huffing in annoyance Keith barged out of his door and headed to Lance's. He paused just outside hearing muffled sounds from inside, groans and muttered words, it sounded like a nightmare. He knocked at the door, but when no one came he let himself in.
Lance was thrashing in his bed, yelling words he couldn't make out, his face contorted and angry or fearful looking in turn. The worst were the tears streaming down his face from his closed eyes.
"Lance?" Keith rushed to the bed. He'd learned from Shiro not to startle someone in a night terror. He tried calling out to him again louder. "Lance!"
Lance stilled and blinked. His arms shook and the tears were still falling. His eyes flashed away, and he scooted away from Keith when he saw him there.
"Hey, sorry, you were having a nightmare." Keith offered quietly.
"Oh." Lance wiped his face, like maybe Keith hadn't seen the tears. "Huh."
Keith reached out a hand and laid it over Lance's hand on the bed, "You okay?"
"Yeah, totally, fine." Lance lied really bad.
Keith bit his lip, he was horrible at comforting people, it's just not a skill he'd really developed as a child. He wondered what would Hunk do.
"Um…you want a hug?" Keith held his arms awkwardly open.
Lance stared at him for a moment, like he was trying to decide if this was some kind of trap, but something in Keith's face must have reassured him because the next thing he knew he had his arms full of Blue Paladin. Keith wrapped his arms down around Lance and squeezed gently. Lance was still crying against his shoulder. Keith scooted up and onto the bed so that it was easier to hold him.
"You want to talk about it?" Keith asked calmly. He'd tried to get Shiro to talk after his nightmares, but he did not want hugs and he did not want to talk. Mabye though, maybe Lance would.
"I just miss my family and home and I keep having these dreams that the Galra are there on Earth and they are taking my family. Sometimes they hurt or kill them, sometimes they take them as slaves, sometimes I'm there and sometimes I get there and just find their graves." Lance sobbed.
"Oh," Keith tightened his hug and began rubbing what he hoped were calming circles on Lance's back. "I get it."
"It's just, I mean, I want to be out here saving people and the universe and I feel like I'm doing good, but part of me really wants to know they are okay and that Galra ship was there and so close to Earth. What if they go back and we're out here? Earth wouldn't have anything to stop them or anyway to contact us." Lance shook in Keith's arms.
"Hey, you know Allura and Coran are monitoring movements in that area. If the Galra even get close, we'll know, and we'll stop them before they even get there." Keith whispered fiercely. "We won't let them hurt Earth as long as we're here."
Lance's tears had slowed and some of the tension had drained away. "Thanks." He sat up then, pulling away from Keith. "I'm sorry I went all blubbery on you."
"You don't have to say sorry. Lance, you've been taking care of us, of me, for weeks. I'm the one that should be saying thanks to you." Keith managed to catch Lance's eyes to be sure he understood he meant what he was saying.
"Oh, I mean, it's not the big of a deal. I was up anyway, and I just noticed you guys weren't taking care of your selves and you particularly are crap at it." Lance elbowed Keith with a little smile.
"Hmm…am I? And I'm going to say you're not that hot at it either. Already up? How long have you been having these nightmares?" Keith frowned.
Lance muttered something.
"What?"
"Um…since we got here?" Lance blushed and looked down.
Keith cringed. How had he not noticed that, that many weeks without sleeping properly, chasing after everyone else.
"That how you got the shiner? Fall asleep and fall or something?" Keith asked trying to lighten the tone.
"Oh, no, but I don't recommend touching Shiro when he's sleep walking." Lance frowned.
"Oh, oh shit, does he know?" Keith asked concerned.
"No." Lance glared, "What am I a jerk? It's not his fault."
"Yeah, well, don't startle him awake if he's having a bad dream either. Other side of the room and call his name is best." Keith warned.
"Duly noted." Lance nodded.
"Now, back to your issue. You need to get some sleep."
Lance sighed, "It's not like I wasn't trying."
"Would it, um, would it help if I stayed?" Keith offered. He figured he was already there and comfy and Lance hadn't exactly let go of him yet, just sat up.
"You don't have to do that." Lance blushed.
"But it would help?" Keith was pleased, what he was doing was working.
"Yes, probably." Lance admitted.
"Good." Keith snuggled down into Lance's bed and looked up to where the other boy was still sitting staring at him. "I mean, if that's okay?" Suddenly Keith was a little concerned he'd gone too far with the whole what would Hunk do thing.
"No, yes, I mean, it's fine." Lance was still staring at him a little as he eased himself into the bed and laid his head on the pillow. "I…thank you."
"Someone has to take care of the guy that's taking care of everyone else." Keith whispered eyes falling shut already.
Lance smiled softly watching Keith's breathing even out as he drifted off to sleep.

Lost In The Echo - 1
Pairing: Keith x Labrador hybrid Lance
Summary: After his brother went MIA, Keith’s life began to fall apart. He dropped out of high school and got a job, barely doing enough for himself to survive. He’s reached the point where even he is worried about how far he’s fallen into the depths of his depression. After learning about emotional support hybrids, he takes a chance and adopts a Lab hybrid named Lance.
Word Count: 2567
Requested
The apartment door banged loudly as Keith kicked it closed, not even bothering to lock it since he had nothing for anyone to steal anyway. He tossed his bike helmet onto the couch and slumped into the opposite seat with a relieved sigh.
Today had been yet another long and tedious day filled with nothingness. He’d even volunteered to work longer at the machine shop and had put in a whole twelve hours just to have something to fill his time. And now he was back in his crappy apartment that was just as empty as he was, save for the overloaded trash can filled with takeout boxes and a sink full of dishes he was never motivated enough to wash. The mess annoyed the hell out of him, sure, but the effort it would take to gather up the remnants of energy he had left to clean seemed impossible. Takashi would kick his ass if he saw this place...
Instead, he stretched out fully on the couch and put some documentary on that he barely paid attention to in order to fill the silence and ordered some dinner off of his favorite app. He figured at some point he should take a shower and get the smell of the shop off of him, but that seemed like too much work at the moment. He lounged on the couch for the full thirty minutes he had to wait for his food, moving only to kick off his shoes.
When the doorbell rang he sighed wearily, wincing as his bones cracked as he stood. He slowly hobbled to the doorway and cracked it open, intending to simply reach his hand out for the bag and scurry back inside like the antisocial raccoon he was.
“Special delivery for Gerard Way if he had a mullet and shrunk three inches?”
Keith scrunched his nose as he realized the amused voice was familiar and poked his head out, widening his eyes as he took in the grinning delivery person.
“Hunk?”
“Hey man! Long time no see, huh? I saw your name on the order form and couldn’t resist making the delivery myself. You were our last order of the night anyway.”
Keith pulled the door open all the way and peered up at him.
“Jesus, did you get even taller? And are those real muscles? Dude.”
Hunk holds up the bags that looked like they had a lot more than what he actually ordered, flexing shamelessly.
“I know, right? The last time you saw me was in high school when I was still ninety percent taco, but I’ve been working out for actual fun these days. And you! I took a chance you’d still have the mullet when I made that joke, glad it worked out.”
Keith rolled his eyes as he ruffled said hair nervously.
“It just grows that way, you know that.”
“So you’ve always said. Man, I missed you. A lot of us tried to find you these past few of years, but you seemed to just vanish and don’t even use social media. How are things? Hold up, let me get your food setup here.”
Hunk just walked right past Keith into his apartment and placed the bags on the coffee table. He muttered to himself as he set out multiple fantastic smelling containers, and Keith took a moment to glance around for anything too shameful while Hunk was distracted.
He was embarrassed by the stark emptiness of the place, as he only bought the bare essentials, but he knew Hunk was too nice to actually say anything about it. Mostly it was just the trash-filled kitchen and the fact that it was obvious he usually just slept on the couch that had him worried.
“So you work at Sal’s, huh?”
“Co-own it actually, along with being the head chef. Except on the weekends when I volunteer at Hybrid Haven with Katie.”
Keith was impressed but wasn’t all that surprised. He’d known Hunk would do well for himself even back in high school. He was just a nice guy all the way to his core and got along with everyone, unlike Keith who liked five living beings and two of them were dogs.
“So Pidgeotto is still around too, huh?”
“I forgot about that one,” Hunk snorts and sets the plastic bags off to the side. “Yeah, most of us are still around. Katie and Allura run Hybrid Haven together and Matt left the Army after...that...and is some software genius and built his own company. He tried to explain what it was for, but it went over even my head. And I studied to be an engineer!”
Keith huffed a laugh and let Hunk pull him onto the couch, accepting the utensils he was handed.
“What is all this, anyway? I just ordered a meatball sandwich.”
“I know, but dude, this is my first chance to have you try my professional skills! I’m not going to pass that up. I’ve improved so much in the three years since you last tried something of mine. So I made you a sampler platter of our Italian favorites. Spaghetti alla carbonara, Manicotti, Risotto, Fritto misto, and of course a nice big order of meatballs since that’s what you actually asked for. Oh, and there’s breadsticks. And tiramisu for dessert.”
“God, everything smells amazing,” Keith moaned as he opened the first container.
“Good. Eat up, you look like you’re skin and bones.”
Keith huffed a laugh, then practically shoved what he guessed was the carbonara into his mouth. It was so rich and the noodles perfectly al dente, even with them being delivered. It had been a long time since Keith had actually appreciated food, usually just eating what he felt he could tolerate at the moment so he’d stay alive. But a combination of wanting to please Hunk who was watching his every bite and the knowledge that Hunk’s food was always amazing led to genuine enjoyment of the meal. He eyed the number of containers and wondered if Hunk would expect him to eat it all now or if he’d be able to stretch them out for a few days.
“You know, now that I’m looking at you, you seem like you’re sick. Is that why you ordered takeout? I should have brought my soup too,” Hunk frowns and lays a massive hand on Keith’s forehead, trying to gauge his temperature.
“I’m not sick. Just tired. Long day, you know?”
Hunk didn’t look convinced, his gaze sharpening as he looked Keith up and down deliberately then moved to give his actual apartment the same treatment. Keith felt like an ant under a microscope, knowing that Hunk’s often overlooked brain was seeing everything.
Hunk sighed and pat Keith on the head like a damn dog as he stood up and headed towards the kitchen.
“Don’t move a muscle, no matter what. I want you to stay there and eat. I’m beginning to suspect that’s the first decent meal you’ve had in three years.”
Keith’s shame was almost overwhelming because Hunk was grabbing a garbage bag and collecting the overflowing trash that Keith had merely watched grow into a massive pile. He tried to protest, but a sharp look from Hunk told him it was pointless and he’d continued shoveling food down his throat instead.
He was midway through the huge foil tin of Manicotti and listening to Hunk hum to himself as he washed Keith’s dishes when the exhaustion finally caught up to him. His belly was full of delicious food and he was comfortable, laying his head back against the couch and promising he was just going to close his eyes for a second because it hurt to keep them open...
The sun was just beginning to filter through his blinds when he woke up. His apartment was silent except for the gentle hum of the dryer, meaning Hunk had even tackled Keith’s toxic pile of dirty laundry and apparently had been here all night doing so. He was ashamed that his old friend had seen what a mess he was these days, but he was touched and humbled that he’d gone out of his way like this.
Keith stretched and cracked his neck before standing, realizing his body was more rested than it had been in a while. He didn’t know if it was the food or just having another presence in the place that had helped.
He yawned and padded towards the kitchen, hoping that Hunk had stashed the leftovers in there. He swung the door open and grinned when he spotted the containers, pulling out the meatballs to make a cold sandwich. He could only imagine the shock on Hunk’s face when he’d opened the fridge and found only water and ketchup.
Keith split open a couple of rolls that Hunk had included with his order and filled them full to bursting with meatballs, suddenly ravenous. He even put them on a plate now that he had some clean dishes. He took a huge bite and chewed happily on his way back to the couch, setting his plate down and searching for the remote and clicking the TV on, pausing as he realized there was a note taped to the front of it.
He jumped back up and pulled it off, reading as he slumped back into his seat.
Keith,
I have to head home before my girlfriend worries too much (her name is Shay! I can’t wait for you to meet her). I am so happy that you ordered from my place today. I know that you are probably all kinds of embarrassed right now, but I seriously missed you. I know it’s probably been hard since Shiro went missing. We all loved him, but you worshipped him. Your brother was one of the greatest people I’ve ever met and I know he’d feel horrible if he came back and saw how much you were hurting.
I’m sorry for upsetting you if you think I overstepped today, but I’m not sorry I did it. You needed some looking after and I was happy to do it. We’ve all been worried sick about you since you left. Matt says he has nightmares sometimes of Shiro coming back and he has to explain that he lost his little brother.
I know you like to think it sometimes, but you’re really not alone. If you’d let us back into your life, we’d love to be there. You were never just another high school friend to us, Keith. You are family. Family that we’ve missed terribly.
As your family, I’m just going to say it. I think you’ve been letting your depression win, bud. The Keith I know is a fighter and right now I think you’re facing your strongest opponent and letting it take over. Please let us help you and be there for you. There’s no shame in asking for help.
I also have another friend that I’d like you to meet. You know how I said we all work with Hybrid Haven? Allura started a program a few years ago training emotional support hybrids. We mainly adopt them out to military vets dealing with PTSD, but I think it would be a good match for you too. There is one, in particular, I have in mind for you. He’s kinda your polar opposite in a lot of ways, but I think it would be good for you.
Just head to the Haven if you decide to go through with it and Katie will probably be at the counter. Tell her you’re there for Lance. She’ll probably be so happy to see you she’ll waive the adoption fee...after she says a few choice words to you. You know how she is, don’t take it to heart. She just missed you and she’s kinda like you in that emotions make her angry.
If you still want to talk to me even after I’ve butted my big head into your business, I’ll write my number under this. If you don’t, that’s fine too. Although I’ll probably cry. Don’t make me cry, Keith.
-Hunk
Keith snorted as he read the last line, then programmed the number into his phone. When he’d disappeared after Takashi went missing, he hadn’t been in a good place. He’d spent every waking moment trying to convince anyone that would listen that his brother was still alive and needing to be rescued. The Army has brushed him off, telling him they were sorry for his loss and that Takashi had been a good soldier, but there was nothing else to be done.
Their parents had died when Keith was too young to remember them well and Takashi had raised him after that. He’d been Keith’s entire world and his hero. They’d moved around from base to base until Keith had hit high school and demanded to stay in one school for the entire time. He’d gotten his wish and had stayed there with the same group of friends until he was almost eighteen and a few months away from graduating. Until the soldiers had come to their home holding a flag and a generic letter of condolence. After that, high school had seemed meaningless and he had to find a job to support himself. He’d sold the home they'd been living in, unable to keep up the payments on his own. He’d then started his monotonous life of working at the machine shop and coming home to an empty apartment.
He hadn’t really meant to ignore his friends from school, they just felt like they didn’t belong to him. They were friends with a different Keith that didn’t exist anymore, one that used to laugh and play. One that hadn’t felt like he was a waste of space just by existing.
He looked at Hunk’s letter again, raising an eyebrow as he got to the part about the hybrid. He was familiar with the creatures, of course. The military had wolf hybrids and Keith remembered a few fondly from his years as an army brat. He remembered he’d even begged Takashi to adopt one years ago, but they hadn’t been as settled at the time so he’d said no.
He glanced around his now clean apartment, taking in the clean kitchen and piles of folded clean laundry waiting in baskets. The place was still empty, but it was looking a little more homey after Hunk had his way with it. Keith sighed and let the idea churn in his head.
He supposed it would be nice to come home to someone, even a hybrid. He’d have a reason to clean up after himself and keep the fridge stocked at the very least. And it would be nice to have Hunk and Pidge around again.
But first, a shower.

Happy Holidays @zenzenzence !! I was your Secret Santa for @voltronsecretsanta2k18 ! I hope you’ll like this <3
Rating: G
Summary: After the War is over, everyone has moved on with their life, found a job helping the Universe maintain its newfound peace. Pidge works as a scientist on Earth with her family and loves her job more than anything, but there is just one little thing missing.

The cafeteria was almost empty. It was late at night but Pidge had lost the notion of time experimenting with some new crystals the Alteans had brought during their last visit to Earth. She sighed, moving the spoon aimlessly in the now cold bowl of soup. Things were simpler now that the War was over, they weren’t threatened by some new Galra at any given moment, they weren’t constantly fighting or running, but they were also lonelier. Everyone was doing their best to make sure peace was maintained everywhere. Allura, Romelle and Coran traveled around the Galaxies offering their help when needed, sometimes joined by Krolia and her Blades. Hunk had moved to Balmera, to work as an ambassador and be with his girlfriend Shay. He visited quite often but it was not the same. As for Keith, Lance and Shiro, they were living the dream of their life, working as pilots for the now intergalactic Galaxy Garrison. Which left her on Earth with her family. She was a scientist, and she loved her job more than anything, but sometimes, just sometimes, she thought back to when it was just the seven of them in the Castle of Lions, running away from Zarkon, discovering new alien civilizations and technologies. It was scary, true, but there were also the laughs, the friendships, the bond that only sharing such an intense experience can create.
“See? We are safely back! Told you that bringing an alien with us was the best way to be sure not to be abducted,” a loud boisterous voice interrupted her musings.
“Ugh, you made this joke at least two hundred times in the past months. Shiro, please, end my misery and kill me, or take him away from me. I don’t want to see him for at least one year now!” Another voice replied.
Shiro. The name made a spark of something light and warm crackle in her chest. She turned and saw the three pilots walking slowly along the corridor, still in their armors, with tired expressions, ruffled hair and their helmets in their hands.
“Keithy boy, you wound me. I thought we were pals! Buddies?” The first voice replied.
Lance.
They were back.
She didn’t realize she was running towards the door, until she collapsed face first into the glass it was made of with a thump.
“Pidge? Oh my god, is that you?” Lance said peeking from the other side. “You are taller!”
“Seriously, Lance? You haven’t seen her in ages and the thing you go with is ‘you are taller’?” Keith teased and moved to open the door to help her. When she confirmed she was okay, her attention returned to the three of them.
“Hey!” She said awkwardly, trying to tame the embarrassment of her entrance. “How are you guys? How was the mission?”
“We are fine, thank you Pidge, it’s good to see you!” Shiro replied, opening his arms for a hug. She happily went and let the contact linger before turning to offer the same greeting to the others. She had just been thinking about how much she had missed them.
“Now I’d better go and separate these two before they give me another headache with their bickering,” Shiro continued. “Seriously, how could I think it was a good idea to choose them for the same team.”
Pidge chuckled. “Don’t even try that, Shiro, I know you love them.”
“Yeah, I really do…” Shiro said, squeezing both Keith and Lance with his arms as they squeaked. “But after eight long months alone with them, I need a vacation. Or ten. Keith, let’s go, come on. Say hi.”
“And don’t forget our date tomorrow, Keithy,” Lance called with a wink as the two began to walk away, waving at them.
Keith groaned but nodded and gave him a thumbs up before turning away.
“You two are exactly the same,” Pidge commented, shaking her head.
Lance smiled fondly. “You don’t change a winning team. And he is a very good friend, I know he doesn’t mean it when he says that he wants to kill me... Probably.” He shrugged. “By the way, what are you doing here? My sense of time might be a bit fuzzy right now but isn’t it a bit late to be at work?
“I got caught up finishing an experiment, I was just eating something at the cafeteria before I go home.” Then, more hushed, she added. “But I’m glad I got to see you.”
She blushed, looking away and hoping he didn’t hear.
“CAFETERIA! What a magic word!” He raised his hands, eyes so wide and shining he looked right out of a comic book. “Oh yes, please, Earth food!”
With a relieved breath, Pidge laughed at his antics. “Don’t you want to have a shower? Or go home?”
“Yes but, REAL FOOD,” Lance replied.
“Ok, fine, come, you can use my card.”
“You are a real angel, Pidge.”
“Yes, yes, whatever.”
They went back to Pidge’s table and Lance jumped from one foot to the other, looking at the admittedly not so small selection the place offered, the Garrison had an amazing cafeteria when compared to other workplaces. Pidge couldn’t help but smile to herself despite knowing she would regret giving him free access to her meal card as she threw away the forgotten soup and waited for him to order.
He came back carrying three full trays of food. Pasta, sandwiches, salad, fries and at least three different cakes. Pidge gave him a pointed look, raising an eyebrow to which he retorted, almost looking offended, “Eight months, Pidge. Don’t you remember how awful the food goo was?”
“I didn’t say anything.”
He rubbed his hands and began to stuff his mouth with the content of the first tray, asking between mouthfuls if Pidge wanted to taste anything.
At first, she refused, too amused by the content expression he was wearing while savoring each dish, then she remembered she was technically paying for all of that and joined in.
“So, anything interesting happened while I was away?” Lance asked, laying back on his chair and wiggled his eyebrows suggestively, signaling he wasn’t asking about work or politics.
Pidge huffed. “Not really… I mean, Hunk will probably ask Shay to marry him before the end of the year but it was kind of expected… Other than that, I don’t really know much about the others. The last time Allura visited, it was only to ask us to run some tests on these crystals they found.”
She looked away, trying not to flinch at the mention of Allura’s name. It was probably the one he was most interested in hearing but it never stopped stinging a bit.
“Oh, yeah, we met them at a Marmoran base a couple of quintants ago, Coran was so excited about those.” He leaned on his hand over the table to meet her eyes. “What about you?”
“Me? Well, there’s not much to say, I’m a workaholic, I don’t really have time to go out.”
“And you tell me that I haven’t changed a bit,” Lance shook his head with a small smile on his lips. “Well then, to pay you back for this dinner, I will take you out before I leave for my next mission. You need to take breaks sometimes, it’s important for your skin. And your health in general, of course.”
“Hm… Okay?” She replied, not completely sure this was a good idea. But she knew how stubborn Lance was and there was no way she could avoid something he had set his mind to.
“Good!” He commented, louder than was necessary in the little space between them, he was probably starting to feel the exhaustion for the mission. “I am busy tomorrow but we can go the day after? I know just the perfect place!”
“Oh, right. Your date with Keith… Is there something I don’t know? Did you finally stop running after Allura like a smitten puppy?” She said with a smirk.
“What?? I haven’t been hitting on Allura since… Come on, that was just plain rude. But for your information, no there’s nothing you don’t know, my ‘date’” - he accentuated the word making air quotes with his fingers - “is just a little tradition we have, meet for dinner the day after the mission to talk about what went wrong and what we can improve. It’s for team building, and because our view on things is basically the opposite, so we can compensate one another, like pieces of an engine.”
“Wow that’s… Incredibly mature of you,” Pidge commented before she could think about what she was implying with her surprised tone. “Sorry, I… Didn’t mean it like that.”
Lance just shrugged. “No, it’s okay. I get it. But we have all come a long way since we were four lost kids and a Shiro thrown out into Space, right?”
“Yeah, we have.”
She was lost in her thoughts for a quiet moment, the wave of nostalgia hitting her for the second time that night, until she spotted something over Lance’s last tray that brought her back to the present, especially because she was completely sure it wasn’t in the cafeteria’s selection.
“Are those peanut butter cookies??”
Lance’s eyes widened as he scratched the back of his neck. “Hm… Yeah… They were in the menu and…”
“No, they were not! I would know, I come here every day.”
“You’re right. You are always too smart to me,” he said with an odd tone Pidge couldn’t quite decipher. “I found them at a Space Mall, you can have them, if you want.”
“Thank you!” She grabbed the packet and took one of the biscuits, smiling gratefully. “They are so good!”
“I’m glad you like them,” he smiled. “I’d better go now, thank you for keeping me company and for, you know,” he motioned for the now empty trays.
“Anytime. That’s what friends are for, stealing food from them while remembering the good old times,” she laughed, munching on another cookie.
“Yeah… Good night, Pidgey.”

***
Pidge, most definitely, didn’t spend the entire day trying to decide what to wear for her evening with Lance. They were just friends and her appearance didn’t matter, especially considering he had known her since she was pretending to be a Garrison student, dressed as a boy with messed and awfully-cut hair and Matt’s glasses. There was no way he would make a fuss about it now. Still, she didn’t remember another time in which the two of them had gone out alone together on purpose. That was the only reason why she was a little on edge, it would have been the same with Keith, or Romelle.
It was also true that, especially after the Meme Kingdom incident - meaning, that one time just after the end of the War when Matt and Lance accidentally discovered their mutual passion for vines and everything related and fell platonically in love with one another - they had gotten incredibly closer, more than she was with the others, except for Matt and Hunk, of course. So she had absolutely no reason to be nervous.
Taking a deep breath, she looked at her reflection in the mirror for the hundredth time. Her hair was still short but the cut was a lot more defined than it used to and her glasses were now the correct size. She was wearing light jeans and a nice green shirt with leaves embroidered around the neck. It was warm outside, so she only carried a light white jacket over her shoulders for good measure. Nothing too fancy but not too sloppy either.
When the bell rang, she petted her dog, checking everything was in order one last time before going out.
“Hey!” Lance greeted with a warm smile.
“Hi.”
“So, I wanted to borrow my mother’s car? Because it would have been more comfortable and all but… She said she didn’t trust me with it. I am one of Earth’s best pilots, my job is quite literally to drive things, yet she didn’t trust me with her car.” He complained, sounding like he still didn’t believe it. “Anyway, since I couldn’t take the car, I had to come up with something last minute and” - he moved to the side, revealing the hoverbike parked behind him - “I borrowed this. My friend assured me it’s perfectly safe.”
“By ‘your friend’ you mean Keith? Because I’m not sure I would trust him when it comes to safety.”
Lance ran a hand through his hair and sighed. “I’m sorry, we can walk and go somewhere else, it’s just… I really wanted to show you this place and I didn’t know where to find another car in such a short time.” He looked so unsure, Pidge almost regretted complaining.
“It’s okay, I trust you to be careful and not kill me. We both know Matt would never forgive you if you do,” she smirked, making him chuckle.
“True, he would probably skin me alive or something. But thank you for your trust. Let’s go?”
Pidge nodded, following him to the bike and sitting with her hands securely to his side. “Ready whenever you are.”
Lance threaded his way among the traffic, driving smoothly and with ease and soon they reached their destination. When he stopped, Pidge jumped down with a big grin plastered on her face from the adrenaline of the speed, which only grew bigger when she took notice of the place they were in front of.
“What is this?” She asked in awe.
Lance put their helmets back in the small trunk of the bike and returned her smile. “It’s new. It opened just before I left for the mission so I couldn’t tell you before but I was sure you would like it.”
“Yes, I love it! Let’s go, I want to see the rest. Let me buy you a drink.”
“Okay, sure,” Lance chuckled as she sprinted towards the door. There was a sign above it, reading The Steampunk Coffee, lit in a green light and surrounded by pieces of engines, wheels and cogs that swirled when she opened.
“This is so amazing,” she could feel her cheeks warm and her eyes sparkled with excitement.
“Wait until you see the tables!” Lance yelled.
And he was right. They sat at a corner and ordered two very colorful drinks with names like Geoffrey Bernard, or Joshua Gideon, or whatever, she could barely read, rapt as she was. The table was a large glass plate with all different kinds of tools glued to the bottom, from writing utensils, to watches, to lamps, to a mechanical keyboard.
“I’m glad you like it,” Lance smiled, and in the dim light of the shop, it looked so soft Pidge’s heart skipped a beat. She had known she had feelings for him for a very long time already, from when they still where the Paladins of Voltron running around the Universe, and she had come to accept it and mastered the art of hide and ignore to almost perfection.
Key-word being almost.
She sipped idly at her drink trying to search her brain for anything to start a conversation with and coming up empty-handed.
“So, what are you working on, right now? Except for the crystal?” The voice reached her like it was coming from under-water but the words felt like a lifeline. Work, that was something she could talk about for ages. Safe, easy, harmless.
So she did. Delved into all the details of her new project and asked him about the mission, how it was going with the team, which new planets they had visited. A known territory. Something they had shared for many years and they were both still passionate about. From there, the conversation flew to the most disparate topics without a hitch. Smooth, comfortable, interesting. She didn’t notice how fast the time was passing until the bartender signaled they were about to close.
When she said goodbye and closed the door to her home, Pidge slumped down on the floor, her traitorous brain working a mile a minute with different scenarios, all equally unattainable. It made her unable to focus, or find the will to walk to her bedroom and try to sleep. That night, everything had been perfect but nothing had changed, they were still friends, Lance still didn’t return her feelings and come the following day, she would have to fall back on her usual routine of hide, ignore, accept.

Logically, Pidge knew she was acting childishly. Avoid talking to Lance wasn’t a solution she could use in the long term. Not only because it was weird for their friends but because she didn’t want to lose him. She just needed more time, to forget how warm and happy she had felt after their ‘date’, stop her heart from fluttering in her chest just at the thought of him.
Maybe their new mission was the perfect opportunity. He would be away for weeks, or months, and she would get to see Hunk, the only person who knew about the whole… thing. So that when they would come back, she could act normally around him again.
She walked to the hangar without really thinking, letting her feet carry her along the familiar path. She had said goodbye to her father and brother there all those years ago and, after the War, she had said goodbye to so many people, so many times from that same place. She thought about what Keith said, about going with them. It was true the Garrison treated the five of them differently, considering the part they had played in saving the Universe, so they would probably agree, but she had a job to do. She wouldn’t let missing her friends or anything else get in the way of that. The experiments they were running on Earth were just as important as any space mission and even if they were gradually teaching other people to deal with Altean technology and crystals, everyone still relied on her father and her when it came to important decisions or risky operations.
So she wished good luck, promised to give Hunk a hug for them all and asked to call when they could. Then, she left them to finish their packing and went back to the cafeteria. It almost felt like a deja-vu. She sat at the table she had shared with Lance the previous week, her finger grazing the smooth surface and a small smile playing on her lips.
It was going to be okay.
“Don’t you think there is something missing?”
Pidge froze, recognizing the voice.
“What are you doing here?” She asked and slowly raised her head in time to see Lance scratch the back of his neck with his hand, looking sheepish.
“I kinda wanted to see Hunk? And between Keith and Matt and… You know, I didn’t get to spend much time with my family? Plus, I’ve never asked for a vacation since the end of the War and… Shiro said this mission is easy so they won’t probably need me.”
Pidge raised a suspicious eyebrow. “You hate it when you feel like Shiro and Keith treat you as the third wheel in the team, what are you hiding?”
“I… Ugh, fine. I hated leaving things hanging between us like that. I know we are just friends and everything, but I thought… Did I do something wrong? Didn’t you enjoy yourself at the Steampunk Coffee? Because I don’t even know how I got the courage to ask you out that day? It was the atmosphere, you were buying me food and we were laughing so I just… Didn’t think much and did it? But then at Matt’s you wouldn’t even look at me and I just” - he shut his mouth abruptly and shook his head - “Sorry, this is probably stupid. I must have read the situation completely wrong. I’ll go home now. I’m really sorry, it must have been wishful thinking, I’m so stupid.”
He turned, starting to walk away before Pidge could even blink. She was struggling quite a lot to process everything he had just said but there wasn’t time for that now.
“Please, stop!” She called and before she could second-guess herself, she took his hand in her own. “You didn’t do anything wrong, it was perfect. I was the one who didn’t want to be delusional.” She looked intently at her shoes to avoid eye-contact.
“Delusional? Why would you be-”, he stopped, probably as realization hit him. Pidge dared a side glance to see his expression and the way he was beaming was blinding.
“Yeah,” she confirmed, just to be sure.
His grip on her hand tightened. “Really? You like me too? What, how, when… Why?”
He looked so insecure but hopeful, she couldn’t help her mind from conjuring the word adorable. She laughed, taking a step closer. “Since forever, I think. How can I not?”
“We are such disasters. I thought you liked Keith! He told me it wasn’t true but...”
“And I thought you liked Allura!” She retorted, before the meaning of his words really registered. “Wait, Keith? Why Keith?”
“You go on for hours talking about your cryptids and you even planned to go on a trip together once!”
“Yes, because we are very good friends and you all don’t like talking about that stuff so we leave you out of it. Unlike you and Matt,” she added the last part a bit sarcastically, offering a playful smirk.
Lance chuckled. “Yeah, you are right.” He tapped his finger lightly over the back of her hand, his smile becoming tentative and shy. “So... Would you like to go on a proper date with me?”
She took another step, pressing her head to his chest. “How is that even a question,” she said into his shirt and when he laughed in response, the sound reverberated through his chest, sounding so free, unhindered, it made her feel impulsive for the second time that day, and probably even in her life. She looked up at him with all the affection she had never let her eyes show, years of longing, hoping, hiding.
“Yes, me too,” he whispered, before brushing his lips first over her forehead then her nose.
And there’s that saying that things come in threes, right? So it was no wonder that Pidge’s brain decided to shut down once again that day, letting her make another impulsive decision as she shifted her weight to the tips of her toes. Lance’s eyes widened considerably when he realized what she was about to do but he made no move to stop it. If anything, he pressed closer.
The taste, the warmth of his skin and his scent enveloped her and, in that moment, she knew that even if she had had to wait for ten, or even twenty years more, it would have still been worth it.

This chapter is a little different I think, I had to write a new side of Keith that I thought could be fun exploring. I hope you enjoy ;; ! Please let me know what you think! Another fanart someone made for this fic Here!!
(<-Previous) (First) (Commissions) (Ko-fi)
“Did you hear me when I said that training doesn’t count?” Lance asks, amused as they make their way through the halls. “Yes Lance, I did.” Keith chuckles, he’s been grinning for quite a few minutes now. Lance has never seen Keith this excited and it’s making his heart write love letters faster than he can think them. “So why are we going back to the Bridge?” He asks, unable to help his curiosity. “Your idea of fun isn’t making Pidge look at us weird again, is it?” Keith ignores his question. “I just need to check something first, it should be fast.” His answer is rushed, almost as if the faster he replies the faster they would get to the mysterious fun activity faster. All this eagerness from Keith is starting to affect Lance, who is smiling as he follows behind. Shortly after they reach their destination, but Keith stops him from entering. “Can you uh... stay out here while I talk to Allura?” Obviously Lance can’t say no, but he is itching for hints on what Keith has in mind. “Is this going to be a surprise then?” “Sort of? I won’t take long.” He promises, as he takes another step closer to the door, obviously wanting to go as soon as he has Lance’s approval. Lance crosses his arms, entertained on seeing yet another side of Keith. “Well, alright then. Hurry up.” He smirks and Keith quickly disappears behind the door.
For the time Keith is spending organizing whatever this mysterious activity is going to be, Lance is left alone with his thoughts. And he decides to use that time wisely, thinking about Keith. He tries to guess what Keith could possibly be planning. Lance always wanted to know more about things that Keith likes to do, hobbies and all that. But so far on their journey through the universe, he had only caught onto a couple of things that Keith did to de-stress. There was a small notebook he carried in one of his belt packs that he read a lot, carving a small blue material that reminded Lance of Scaltrite, and videogames on his own when he thought no one was looking. (Lance really hopes Keith didn’t read the letter where he mentions the fact he knows these things.) Either way, he doubts Keith’s current plan had anything to do with reading, carving or playing so he’s back to having no clues.
Before he can come up with a theory, the Bridge door opens and Keith walks out. Lance thinks that he looks a little red but it can also be just his eyes playing tricks on him, Keith seems to be thinking of something. “Got everything you needed?” Lance tries asking, seeing if he can call Keith back to... uh, the Castle. Keith blinks and meets Lance’s gaze and his smile returns. “Yeah, everything is ready.” “Ready for what? Where are we going next?” “The hangar.” Keith says as he starts walking again, Lance quickly follows by his side. “How do you feel about piloting Red right now?” He raises an eyebrow. “You really sure this is not going to be a training exercise?” But Keith apparently doesn’t understand that he means it as a joke and replies seriously. “Well, I can take Black but Red is the fastest so-” “I’ll do it.” Lance interrupts. “But on one condition, you gotta tell me what we’re going to do because all this suspense is killing me.” Keith chuckles, this time understanding that Lance is just joking around. “Okay, so you know how you said that you miss swimming?” “Yeah? But if we’re going swimming I should-” “It’s not.” Keith interrupts quickly, and looks a bit embarrassed from doing so. “What I mean is... uh... is that I think this is something I miss doing just like you miss swimming.” “Okay.” Lance nods for a second, before he gently goes against Keith with his shoulder with a grin. “But that wasn’t an answer, just so you know.” “Just wait, we’re almost there.”The rest of the way is spent with them laughing and shoving at each in a good-sort-of-competitive-fun way.
When they reach the hangar, Lance’s questions are finally answered, and everything makes perfect sense. "You are obviously going to win this." "I thought I could help you." Keith says with a sheepish grin. "Wait so your idea of fun is...” Lance looks at the altean looking hoverbikes and then at Keith. “teaching me how to ride a hoverbike?" "I have fun when you show me new things." He says as he scratches his neck, imitating again Lance’s nervous tic unconsciously. “And you wanted to know what I think is fun so... I remembered this.” Lance could read in the atmosphere that Keith is second guessing himself, and Lance isn’t going to allow that on his watch, so he quickly comes up with something. “Hey, I think it’s a cool idea, as long as you don’t tell me to drive off a cliff, I think this could be fun.” Keith smile is back. “I won’t-” “Good.” “-at least at first.” Keith adds. “Just shut up and get inside Red before I change my mind.”

Doll, you have been waiting for like a month now and it is finally here! Hopefully it was worth the wait!
Lance
Lance is a musical boy
He totally knows how to play guitar
And he actually has a pretty good singing voice
Though he usually has fun dramatically singing out of key on purpose
So one day you’re chilling in your room, strumming and singing along and Lance walks in
He probably was gonna ask you for some help with sparring
He only gets to hear you for a few seconds before you screech at him
“WhY dIdN’T yOu KnOcK!”
The boy is too stunned to even respond but when he does, he’s so excited!!
Why didn’t you tell him you could sing and play???
Now all he wants to do is show off his rad guitar skills
Be prepared to be serenaded
You know that video of the principal being followed around by a mariachi band? Yeah that’s basically gonna be your life for the next few days
Please join in with his ridiculous antics
He would be so thrilled if you just strummed with him, you don’t even have to sing
Of course, he won’t make you sing in front of the other paladins if you don’t want to (even if he really wants to show you off)
He’d be happy with you playing when it's just you and him in your rooms
Once you open up about it and aren’t so shy around him, he’ll teach you a few songs from when he was a kid
Most of them are in Spanish and, assuming you don’t speak Spanish, he helps you with your pronunciation and because of it, you pick up a few Spanish phrases
They’re kind of like nursery rhymes equivalent to ‘You are my Sunshine’ or ‘The Itsy Bitsy Spider’ but he gets so happy when you play them
If you actually write a song for him???
Error: Lance.exe has stopped working
It could only be 15 seconds long for all he cares, he’s just so so happy
Say you sing it to him after he gets back from a particularly hard mission
He probably cries
God he loves you so much
Keith
As much as I would love to shitpost and say Texas!Keith can yodel, I can’t do that to him
If you guys want to imagine him doing that though, I’m certainly not going to stop you
Y’all know that he had to learn how to square dance at some point in his childhood though
Keith has never been good with instruments, he has a hard time reading the notes
But he can definitely appreciate good music when he hears it
He doesn’t even realize it’s you singing at first
He’s just kind of in his own thoughts and all “Oh hey, this music’s pretty good.”
Then it dawns on him
Pidge hasn’t built a music radio (as far as he knows anyway)
So where’s it coming from???
Boy has to investigate
He’s pretty good at being stealthy so you don’t notice him until you finish
Now you’re thoroughly flustered
“You’re really good.”
It’s simple but you know it’s sincere
And he’s got this cute little smile on his face
He gets so relaxed when he hears you sing
Sometimes he’ll just lean back and close his eyes and listen to you play
You think he falls asleep so you stop playing after a bit and he immediately peeks his eyes open
“Why’d you stop?”
Please sing to him whenever he returns from BoM missions
He needs it
He kinda likes the idea of this being something just between you two so he wouldn’t mind if you were so shy your audience was limited only to him (and sometimes the mice)
You get him to sing with you one day
He’s redder than a tomato and his voice is so quiet you can hardly hear him
But he’s good
Not spectacular by any means but definitely not bad
He’s so flustered and he swears to never do it again
If you had a particularly bad day though you might be able to egg him into humming for you
Very rarely you can get him to sing
And when he does, you’re sworn to secrecy
He would rather die than let Lance know he sings
Shiro
In between missions, in an effort to boost morale, Allura had everyone participate in a talent show
The original paladins decided to do a group performance
Ie Lance decided to force them all to do a group performance
You opted to be a judge with Allura
Their performance was one of the funniest trainwrecks you’ve ever witnessed
Lance had almost* everyone doing choreography and there was some singing
Almost* because Keith just kind of lazily moved his arms when he was supposed to dance
Anyway, the show is how you know Shiro can sing
“You’re Welcome” anyone???
It’s not like he’s hiding the fact that he can, and will, sing, it’s just that it’s not really something that comes up often
So when he hears you singing?
His reaction is kind of adorable
He gets that soft smile on his face and his eyes are all tender
“I didn’t know you could sing”
You flush at getting caught
Which Shiro thinks is insanely cute
Lowkey you’re just killing him atm
He understands if you don’t like singing in front of people but he can’t help but joke around
“If you sang at our talent show, we wouldn’t have lost to the mice”
Chances are if you do sing around Shiro, you’re doing it when you two are alone
While Shiro loves hearing you sing, you’re gonna love it more
Because Shiro will sing with you 97% of the time
His voice is just??? I’m swooning thinking about it
He’ll probably try dancing with you too and that’s cute af
I love him so much
He loves when you sing, he thinks you sound stunning and it allows him to be himself for a bit and not just ‘the leader of voltron’
Pidge
Pidge was never overly into music
She went to maybe three concerts back on Earth with Matt
one of those was definitely for a boyband when she was like 10
And she had a go-to playlist of fairly mellow music to play when studying
But other than that, yeah she never really paid attention to music or the talent or hard work it takes to be even mediocre at it, let alone good
That changes when she finds out you can sing
She doesn’t actually hear you singing
She was just rummaging through your room (with your permission of course) looking for spare parts when she found your instrument
Babe you never told her about this?
She kind of just plops down in front of you and looks at you expectantly
Y/n: “Uh? Can I help you?”
Pidge: “Are you gonna sing or what?”
Look she’s just very blunt alright
She’s kind of stubborn so if you clam up and refuse to sing, she’ll probably try insisting a couple more times but she’ll back off after the third or fourth ‘no’
Even though you won’t sing/play for her, she goes out of her way to learn a little bit about music
Not how to actually play an instrument or anything, Pidge could never do that
Actually, she can play Chopsticks on the piano but that’s it
She just kind of learns about the different genres and how they came about and what effect they had
Lance was her teacher for this and it was wild but she really does end up learning a lot
She’s got a new appreciation for music
A little while passes before she brings up your music again
Not in the pestering way she did the first time, it’s more of an offhand thought
“So like, will I ever hear you sing?”
She’s just curious
She really wants to hear it
Im thinking that when you finally do play something for her, it has the same vibe as “A Shitty Gay Song About You” by Ezra
At first, she’s just thinking you’re playing a cute little love song
But then she realizes it’s about you and her
:o
She doesn’t even know how to react
She’s so happy but so flustered
How to Break Pidge 101
Matt
Matt can play the piano
Moderately well, he’s not out here busting out concertos or anything wild
So he knows how hard it can be to play an instrument
So anyone who can? He’s lowkey in awe
He’s such a big dork about music
Really about everything tbh
He will shamelessly belt out a tune at any appropriate time
Especially just to embarrass Pidge
Not a bad singer tbh
He sings cheesy 80s pop music
Matt probably already knew you were shy about singing before he even knew you could play an instrument
Just from all of the times he tried getting you to sing with him and you would blush and say no
He went to your room to grab something for you one day
He couldn’t find it right away though and so he had to rummage through a few things
That’s how he found your instrument
He’s excited!!
He immediately brings your instrument to you
Completely forgets to also bring what he was originally supposed to
You two are completely alone in the hangar, working on upgrading some of the emergency pods
So after a minute of him giving you puppy dog eyes, you pick up your instrument and play…
Never Gonna Give You Up
Look in order to be with this dork, you have to be just as dorky if not more so
He’s torn between laughing and crying and just being so in love with you
After the initial “Babe did you just rickroll me in space?” reaction, you bet your ass he joins in with you
Pidge probably walked in without either of you noticing and took a video of it
She thinks of sharing it with literally everyone you’ve met but she’s not that cruel
She does send it to Matt though and he cherishes it so much
Matt probably tries to play your instrument sometimes
He’s terrible at it and so you start giving him lessons
It’s one of his favorite things to do with you now
At some point, Matt is going to joke about starting a family band or something
He gets these dorky starry eyes anytime he hears you sing
He just thinks you’re incredible ok?

Klancemas December 18: Snowed In
@monthlyklance
Klancemas 2018
"Jigsaw"
Dec 18: Snowed In
(A future Klance-Family Fic)
Keith woke to the smell of food. Something vaguely reminiscent of bacon and eggs, but not… quite. There was a very strange quiet stillness to the air that he wasn’t a huge fan of, too. And he wasn’t the only one who felt it- Kosmo was pacing. Weird. There was something weird going on.
He was just about to call out to Lance when the bedroom door swung open and Lance appeared before him, dressed in pj bottoms and an apron, carrying a tray, and holding a neon green alien flower between his teeth, tango-style. “Ayyy-baape,” he said around the stem, the flower making his pronunciations strange, and set the tray over Keith’s lap. He pulled the flower out of his mouth and bowed dramatically, offering up the pleasant smelling plant with an over the top flourish. “Breakfast in bed for Mr. Kogane, prepared especially for you BY Mr. Kogane.”
“Lance, the wedding was six months ago,” he laughed, accepting the flower, “when are you going to get sick of that joke?”
“Ummm… never!” He looked scandalized, “you, sweetums, did not get to see the look on your face when you found out I was taking your name. If you had, you’d know, I am never going to get sick of reminding you that I am Mr. Kogane. Ever.”
“Dork,” he muttered, letting his hair fall into his face to hide his blush… because, despite his protests, he loved it. He loved that Lance took his name. Loved Lance’s reasons for it “your Dad was a hero, and he had one son… who is also a hero… I am VERY proud to be a Kogane”. Loved that Lance made a point of reminding him of it, or correcting people who called him McClain. Loved that even now, half a year after the wedding, he’d still find ‘Mr. & Mr. Kogane’ doodled on scrap paper and napkins and the margins of paperwork that had been within reach when Lance was trying to pay attention to something that bored him. It was something he hadn’t thought mattered to him until the instant that it happened.
Lance had a knack for knowing what would make him happy, or upset. It sometimes felt like Lance knew him better than he knew himself. When he’d mentioned it, Lance had waved him off saying that Keith knew- he’d just spent so long convincing himself not to care so he didn’t get disappointed when it didn’t happen, that he just ignored it. Lance didn’t ignore it.
Lance’s long fingers cupped his chin and tipped his face back up, “but I’m YOUR dork, so… what does that say about you, Mullet?”
“That I am incredibly lucky?” he guessed, smiling tenderly at Lance.
“Nice save,” Lance laughed, “you’re learning.”
“Maybe marriage just agrees with me,” he countered, closing the distance between them to give his husband a kiss. “Is this all for me, or are we sharing?”
“We are sharing,” Lance crawled into the bed beside him, “it’s more romantic…. And there are fewer dishes that way.”
“Alright, but we shouldn’t get distracted,” Keith said, trying for a serious tone, despite the huge smile on his face. “It feels really late. We need to get going.”
“Yeahhhh,” he drawled, “about that… we aren’t going anywhere.”
“What do you mean?” Keith froze, his fork mid-air. “We finished up the mission YESTERDAY. We need to get back.”
“Soooo, while we were sleeping, it snowed,” Lance offered him a wan smile.
“Okay- snow isn’t a big deal.”
“On thiiiiiiis planet, it kinda is, though,” Lance said, “because the entire cabin is buried. I was talking to Rigrill on the intercom- remember Rigrill? He was the check-in guy at that weird pool-slash-gym-slash-bouncey-house- building? Anyway, he said that this happens all the time and that we should be able to leave by the end of the night.”
“The end of the NIGHT?” Keith echoed.
“Yeah…” he looked sheepish, “by the time we get out of here, get to the Lions, and make our way home…”
“It will be lunchtime, at the earliest,” he sighed.
“Yeah.” His shoulders sagged, “I’m sorry. I know you promised my parents we’d be there for Noche Buena celebrations tonight, and your mother and Shiro were going to join us for Christmas brunch in the morning. I shouldn’t have pushed to spend the night here. I messed up our first Christmas as a married couple.”
“You didn’t mess anything up, Lance,” Keith sighed, “you had no way of knowing that we’d get stuck here.”
“I just thought it was so pretty with all the ice walls and the rainbow lights and stuff.”
“I know,” he smiled at Lance, “and it was. We had a really great night. Stop being so hard on yourself. I can think of worse things than being stuck in a luxury cabin with you for a day.”
That seemed to cheer Lance up a bit, he peeked up at Keith, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips, “you’re sure?”
Keith laughed, “yes, Lance. I’m sure. Now, eat… before the breakfast you made us gets cold.”
Lance picked the flower up from where Keith had set it on the tray and tucked it behind his ear, the bright green standing out against Keith’s black hair. “Love you, Mullet.”
“I can’t believe you STILL call me that,” Keith sighed, “my hair was never a mullet. It’s just long.”
Lance paused in his eating long enough to snicker at him, “mullet… mulllllllll-et…”
“You realize that your mother loves me and has offered to show me allllll the photo albums, right? I heard rumors from your brother about some kind of mishap with beard trimmers?”
Lance gasped, clutching his chest dramatically, “you wouldn’t! You PROMISED!”
He took a bite of the not-bacon and quirked one eyebrow in a clearly challenging expression.
“Keith!” Lance squawked, “I’m serious! No looking at childhood pictures with my Mom! I almost put it in the VOWS!”
He washed the bite down with some water- which tasted oddly perfumey. Not BAD, just weird. “You realize that’s VERY strange, right?” he laughed, “almost concerningly so. Silvio looks almost exactly like you and he’s a cute kid- what on EARTH could be so awful in those pictures.”
“Nope! Not telling! And you are going to KEEP that promise. Right?”
Keith narrowed his eyes suspiciously, but relented. “Fine. I promised. I keep my promises.” He leaned over to kiss Lance’s jaw softly, “just… remember that I ALSO promised to love you no matter what the universe throws at us. I think some bad photographs and embarrassing home videos falls into that category… don’t you, Tumbleweed?”
“Yeahhhh,” Lance drawled, “I don’t want to risk it.”
“You’re ridiculous,” Keith muttered, shaking his head.
“Hey! You knew that when you married me!”
“I wasn’t claiming it was a NEW development, Lance!”
The conversation devolved into their unique brand of flirting- half good natured ribbing, part challenging each other, and part genuine affection. Most people didn’t quite get it, but it worked for them. By the time the food was gone, they were both well-fed, as was Kosmo, who was routinely snuck morsels from each of them as they both pretended not to notice the other breaking the ‘no table scraps for the space wolf’ rule.
Keith insisted on clearing the tray away, since Lance had cooked. The cabin had started to get chilly, so after he loaded the dishes into the cleaning machine, he built up the fire. The alien wood burned blue and purple and green, but he’d been assured that it was absolutely safe. It was pretty, actually. Once the fireplace was pumping heat out again he wandered over to the funky windows. They looked like the rest of the wall, but you could trigger a panel and they turned completely transparent. He and Lance had spent a good few hours taking in the breathtaking views from their windows of the ice walls- huge cliffs of what looked like icicles, that caught the light and glowed in rainbow hues. There had been some absolutely gorgeous pale blue and lilac swan-like creatures that Lance had fallen in love with, too. As the sun set, the entire place lit up, and the birds took to the sky once full dark hit, luminescent against a starless sky. It had been well worth getting stuck here an extra day.
He wanted to get an idea of how the snow clearing was coming along, so he triggered the windows. At first he thought it hadn’t worked- there’d been so little change in the greyish blue wall. It took him a moment to realize that the light was different in the window sections. The walls were the same color as a drift of snow. Lance hadn’t been kidding when he’d said the cabin was buried! Yikes!
“Cool! I found some… umm… I think that’s a board game, but I don’t know the alphabet, so probably not gonna be able to figure out the rules… Oh! This is a jigsaw puzzle! No language barrier to a jigsaw puzzle, right?”
Keith looked over to see his husband, barefoot and bare chested, but wrapped in a blanket he’d stolen from the bed, holding up a wide, shallow box triumphantly. His heart skipped a beat, just at the sight. They’d been married for 6 months, engaged for a year and a half before that, dating for almost a year before THAT… and before they’d started officially dating… well, things had been complicated and confusing and intense. But he could barely remember what life was like without Lance by his side. He SHOULD be accustomed to it by now… but no. A few times a day. Everyday. Every SINGLE day. Without fail. A few times a day, Lance would say something, or he’d catch a glimpse of him doing something totally normal and unremarkable, or he’d catch a whiff of Lance’s scent lingering on his skin, or the pillow, or his collar and he’d fall, all over again. His breath would catch, just like it was doing right now. He’d get butterflies, just like he had right now. His heart would skip a beat, just like it just had… and his blood would sing, drowning out everything but Lance. “No, I guess there isn’t,” he answered with a smile.
“Spiked hot chocolate and puzzles in front of the fire?” Lance suggested, “I’ll share my blanket…”
“I think that’s OUR blanket, babe.”
“Possession is nine tenths of the law, love. I know you know that.” Lance tsked, “but my offer to share still stands…” He waggled his eyebrows suggestively, making Keith laugh.
“Alright,” he agreed, “you get set up with the puzzle, I’ll make us some spiked cocoa.”
“Yes! Best hubby ever!”
“Are you talking about me? Or patting yourself on the back?” he teased.
“A little of column a, little of column b,” Lance shot back.
It took four rounds of spiked hot chocolate, and a fair bit of good natured squabbling to complete the puzzle. When they’d pressed the final piece into place, the image on the puzzle changed. What had been a simple geometric pattern of softly shifting colors morphed into a holographic image of the ice cliffs, a flock of those swans taking flight and dissipating into twinkling lights that lingered in the air for a moment.
“Wow,” Lance breathed, his face flushed, eyes bright, features soft and relaxed from the buzz they’d gotten from the hot chocolate, flickering light from the fire dancing over his face and hair. “Soooo beautiful…”
“Yeah,” Keith agreed, heat coiling in his gut, skin crackling from being so close to Lance, curled into the same blanket, brushing and bumping against each other for the last couple of hours. “Gorgeous…”
Lance turned his face, it looked like he’d been about to say something, when he’d caught the expression on Keith’s face. Keith could watch the realization that he hadn’t been looking anywhere near the hologram when he’d agreed wash over Lance’s face in a sweep of color. The flush from the alcohol deepened into a true blush, those blue eyes darting away and then back again, “did you even see what the puzzle did?”
“Mmhmm,” he nodded, “kinda… corner of my eye…” He reached out to trace his fingers along Lance’s jawline, smiling when Lance let his eyes drift shut in a very long blink and sighed.
“You know,” Lance whispered, wrapping his arms around Keith under the blanket, “technically, we are still newlyweds…”
“Mmmm?” He tipped his face up to Lance’s.
“Mmmhmmm… and newlyweds are kind of notorious for not being able to keep their hands off each other…”
“Ahhh… yeah… that… is a thing that is true…”
“And it’s not like we can really GO anywhere…” Lance’s voice was barely above a whisper.
“Not safely, anyway,” Keith agreed, inching closer, “and we have a limited supply of firewood…”
“Very true… we should,” his gaze settled on Keith’s mouth, his own tongue peeking out to lick his lips, “do all we can to… conserve heat…”
Keith nodded slowly, completely mesmerized by Lance’s face, “keep each other warm…”
“Yeah. That.” And then Lance was kissing him and they were falling back onto the plush rug in in front of the fire all hungry kisses and lazy caresses… and by the time either of them was ready to pay any attention to anything but each other, the snow had been cleared- much earlier than expected.
If they rushed, they might just be able to get to Cuba before midnight. Maybe. Keith slid into the pilot seat in Black’s cockpit and rolled his eyes at Black’s almost teasing reaction to his emotional state. “Stuff it, Kitty. I’m a newlywed. I’m supposed to be lovestruck,” he muttered, getting situated.
“Keith?” Lance’s face popped up on the display in front of him. “There was a gift on my seat when I got here. Is this from you? Or did someone find some way into Red?”
“It’s from me,” Keith answered, smiling, “Kosmo played Santa for me.”
“You want me to open it now?” Lance asked, beaming.
“Up to you,” Keith answered, “it’s nothing that NEEDS to be private, if that’s what you are wondering.”
“Then I think I’ll wait,” he answered, chewing at his lip as if he was second guessing himself. “Let’s get home.”
About halfway back to Earth, Lance popped up on Keith’s display again, “when did you find the time to get this!?!”
Keith laughed, “I thought you said you were going to wait?”
“I DID wait,” Lance huffed, “we are halfway home! Now, answer me!”
“I asked Rigrill about it when we were leaving. He said the gift shop had a bunch. I bought one, the shop wrapped it, Kosmo dropped it off- all while we were walking back to the Lions. You like it?”
“Babe! I love it. That was the coolest puzzle I ever saw,” Lance gushed, “and I like… having… a reminder…” Lance flushed adorably.
Keith smiled, “good. Me, too. I really liked our first Christmas Eve as a married couple.”
“Aww, you’re being all romantic on me and I can’t even kiss you right now. Evil, wonderful man.”
“I feel so loved,” Keith teased.
“You should,” Lance replied, his voice soft and loaded with emotion, “because you are. So loved.”
“I know,” he answered, softly, “I DO know, I never doubt it… and so are you.”
“I never doubt it, either.”

Reunion
Summary: Shiro’s reunion with Adam doesn’t go at all how he expected.
Also on AO3 and fanfiction.net
I wanted to write something cute between these two before Season 7 arrives and breaks my heart into ten-thousand pieces. No, I haven’t watched any part of episode 1. In fact, I’ve been trying to avoid all spoilers. Yes, I realize writing this is probably going to ruin that attempt.
Basically, everything I put in here is based on what I’ve seen from the trailer and from what brief little bit I know of Shiro and Adam’s relationship. (Which is almost nothing.)
I’ll say it now; the bonus section is silly and probably mildly-out-of-character for everyone.
Reunion
There was only one person on Shiro's mind when they got back to Earth. It only intensified when they learned that Sendak's forces had arrived ahead of them, terrorizing the threatening the human population in their absence. The knowledge that the Galaxy Garrison had opened its door as a shelter and that similar shelters had been opened across the planet, gave him only a small measure of relief.
He had so many other things he needed to worry about. So many other things that needed to be done, if they were going to beat back Sendak. He and the other paladins, with their expertise in fighting the Galra and knowledge of alien tech, were more useful working with Iverson and the other commanding officers of the Garrison. And he knew that, but still...
Shiro tried to cast a fifth inconspicuous look around in an attempt to find him. When he returned to the conversation, Sam Holt gave him a knowing look.
“Go find him, Shiro,” he said. “You won't have any peace until you do.”
Shiro blushed at how transparent his desires apparently were, at least to Sam, but he had a good point. He honestly couldn't remember half of what they were talking about, and his exhaustion was only part to blame. He looked to the other paladins, taking in the way Lance was leaning heavily against Hunk, who'd spent the past ten minutes drifting off to sleep, only to jerk back away. Pidge was swaying on her feet and Shiro would worry about her falling over if it weren't for the fact that Keith was next to her, keeping a sleepy but wary eye on her. Allura kept fidgeting with her hands in a desperate attempt to stay away and keep focused. Even Coran and Krolia were struggling, and poor Romelle, so determined to stay alert, looked as though she was about to drop.
“Alright team, get some rest. We'll pick this up again in a few hours,” Shiro told them.
“What about you?” Keith asked.
“There's something I have to do first. I won't be long,” Shiro promised.
Keith looked like he wanted to argue more, but kept his mouth shut and nodded. Shiro suspected if he took longer than fifteen minutes, Keith would personally hunt him down and drag him back to where they were sleeping.
After a quick word with Sam, he set off, making his way through the crowd.
Before Kerberos, people would stop and stare because he was The Takashi Shirogane, ace pilot, and poster child of the Galaxy Garrison. They stared because of the respect he commanded and the awe he inspired.
With his return, they stared at a broken man; a ghost of who he once was in more than just appearance.
Shiro ignored them all and focused on his goal.
He needed to see for himself that Adam was okay. It didn't matter how things ended between them. It didn't matter if Adam turned him away. What did matter was seeing him alive and unharmed.
Shiro could only stop and watch him, caught off-guard by the sudden rush of emotions that hit him when he saw Adam again for the first time in two years. He was talking to a group of cadets, paying no attention to anything else around him, which gave Shiro ample time to regain control. He'd seen all he needed, but something held him there, rooted to that spot.
And then Adam looked over. Absolute disbelief colored his face, his eyes going wide as he hurriedly began pushing his way through the crowd with a growing desperation. He stopped just before Shiro, taking a moment to look at him.
“Takashi?” he asked, his voice cracking.
Shiro smiled sadly back. “Hey, Adam.”
Adam sobbed and took Shiro completely by surprise when he threw his arms around him, holding him tight and close. “I'm sorry. I'm so sorry! I wished I could have taken it back the moment you left. I never should have said those things to you. I never should have made you feel like you had to choose. I'm so sorry!”
Shiro could only hold onto him with his remaining arm, stifling his own tears into Adam's shoulder. “You're still here,” he mumbled, barely managing to get the words out.
Adam shuddered as he dragged in a breath and drew back slightly to get a better look at Shiro's face. He reached up to caress along his jawline and trace a finger across the scar on the bridge of his nose, as if trying to reassure himself that he wasn't imagining him; Shiro really was there, alive, in front of him.
“I'm not going anywhere, Takashi. I love you.”
Shiro closed his eyes. It was so much more than he expected. So much more than he deserved. He opened his eyes again, gazing at the face of the man he still loved with all of his heart. “Marry me?”
Seconds stretched on as Adam stared up at him with wide eyes, his lips slightly parted in surprise. “I...” His voice broke, but he pressed on. “No fair. That's no fair, Takashi. I had this whole plan. This whole, stupid proposal planned out and here you are, asking before I can get the chance to,” Adam said. A tiny, hysterical laugh bubbled up, but he was smiling, his eyes glistening with fresh tears.
Shiro could hardly believe what he was hearing. “You had a plan?”
“I did. It was a week after you left. I had this whole vision of what I'd do when you came back. How I'd go to the Garrison to see you land and be one of the first to welcome you home. Then I'd get down on one knee and... and ask you to marry me.”
“That sounds wonderful,” Shiro whispered. “Much better than mine. I'm sorry I ruined it.”
Adam shook his head. “You haven't ruined anything. You came home to me, even after everything I said. I don't deserve you.”
Shiro's heart twisted in his chest at Adam's words. It would be so easy to respond the same – to start a back-and-forth of who was less deserving of the other. (After all, Shiro had left first when he chose the Kerberos mission over Adam.) But he didn't want that. He had to believe that they were equally deserving of each other, or else what was the point?
“We both deserve this. This is our second chance and I'm going to take it. I just need to know that you feel the same.”
“Yes,” Adam said without hesitation. He raised up on tiptoe, sliding his hand to the back of Shiro's neck, guiding him in for a long, overdue kiss. When they both pulled away, breathless, Adam playfully ran his fingers through Shiro's short hair.
“So, uh, about your new look...”
“What, you don't like the hair? I think it makes me look distinguished,” Shiro joked.
“Ha,” Adam said dryly. “As your fiance, I think I'm going to have to insist that you dye it. Everyone's going to think I'm in love with an old man.”
Fiance.
Shiro couldn't stop a grin from breaking out across his face at the word. Pure elation swelled in his chest and he couldn't help but swoop in for another kiss. And then another. And another. Until Adam was laughing from the number of kisses being planted all over his face.
Somewhere between them all, Shiro managed to whisper: “I love you.”
BONUS
“Hi, I'm Adam. Shiro's fiance.”
Lance spat out the food goo he was eating, eliciting a disgruntled glare from Hunk, who was both disgusted by his friend's lack of manners and the waste of their precious food supplies. Pidge looked between Shiro and Adam with mild surprise, ignoring whatever was happening next to her. Allura and Coran looked excited by the news, while Krolia and Romelle appeared curious. And Keith...
“Well it's about time,” Keith said, staring at Adam, who shook his head and pointed to Shiro. “Seriously? You two are a disaster.”
“Keith,” Shiro chastised, though he sounded too amused for it to be effective. He paused as a thought occurred to him and he frowned at the current Black Paladin. “Wait, why did you think it was Adam who proposed?”
“Because I helped pick out the rings.”
It was Shiro's turn to be surprised as he turned to face Adam. “You got us rings?”
Adam nodded. “Well, I did say my plan was to propose to you the moment you got back. Most people do that with a ring.”
“Shiro, you proposed without getting him a ring? What kind of example are you trying to set for the rest of us?” Pidge teased, too amused to sound properly (albeit fakely) scandalized by the whole thing.
Shiro buried his face in his remaining hand in sheer embarrassment. “It was spur of the moment, okay?”
“Now, now. Leave Shiro alone,” Allura said, coming to his rescue. “I'm sure it was all very romantic and Adam doesn't seem upset. So how did you ask? Give us all of the the details!”
Adam tried not to laugh at Shiro's misery at the line of questioning, but failed. “Oh yes, it was very romantic. I told him I loved him and his response was 'marry me?'”
There was a momentary uproar as Pidge and Keith couldn't contain their laughter. Lance was quick to get over his temporary confusion and had moved on to bemoaning their leader's apparent lack of romance skills.
“Awww,” Hunk cooed.
Which was followed by a brief silence and an unexpected “Hunk, what the fuck?” from Pidge. And then the noise resumed, with Lance calling out Pidge for her foul mouth while Hunk argued his defense.
Adam pressed a quick kiss to Shiro's cheek. “Don't worry, babe. We'll get the rings and have a better proposal story before we tell our parents.”

The Little Things Ch. 7
The Little Things
Summary: Lance thought he would be okay. It was a rough week, and he had to help his friends out a bit. No problem. He was fine. Everything was fine. But it wasn’t. It wasn’t fine.
Prefer to read it on A03? Here!
First - Previous
A/N: Heyo! Very sorry for the long wait but I have a small, exciting announcement at the end, so please, please, please read it! Thank you!
As always, please enjoy~!
Sunday - 9:03 am
Streams of sunlight peeked behind the corners of the curtains, only a sliver of the room receiving the glow of the morning. But it was enough to stir Lance from his sleep, lapping at his cheeks in comfortable warmth. He hummed happily, leaning into the warmth that cradled his cheek in hopes of getting more. But the curtains weren’t drawn, and all Lance did was move to a colder spot on the bed. He frowned slightly, forcing his eyes open as he looked towards the window, a pout on his face. He didn’t remember if he or Keith had closed them, but he wished they hadn’t now, spending a moment wishing they would move away on their own, trying to summon his inner ‘force’. When the curtains didn’t move, he let out a long and quiet yawn, huffing and deciding that he wanted to get up anyway.
When he did start to move, he was stopped when something held onto him, pulling him closer in a protective matter. He shifted in the hold to look at Keith, blinking a few times before a smile tugged at his lips. Throughout the night, his hair had gotten more wild, sticking up in different angles, some falling into his face. It was cute. Lance carefully reached up and brushed them away, kissing his forehead before settling back into his hold. Keith’s arm seemed to tighten just a bit more, sighing in what Lance could only describe as content. He couldn’t help but feel a little selfish as he laid there, realistically being able to move if he wanted to. But instead he stayed, watching Keith for a good while as he reveled in the protective hold he had on him.
It made him feel wanted.
It made him feel safe.
He could feel his thoughts start to eat at the back of his mind, trying to push into his head and drown him as he became more awake. But Lance pushed them away, forced them back, ignored them, because right now all he wanted to do was lay there with Keith holding onto him. He just wanted to enjoy the moment because damn, it had been a long week. He still felt the hint of exhaustion, but he also felt rested. He didn’t struggle to fall asleep last night, essentially passing out as soon as his head hit the pillow, and he hadn’t woken up once through the night. It helped that Keith had been there with him, murmuring comforting words until he was asleep. Lance thought Keith would have left afterwards, but he had decided to spend the night, planned on it, and it made his heart do things it probably shouldn’t have.
So he was going to enjoy it. He was going be at peace, if even just for a moment.
“Morning.” A sleepy mumble came, making Lance jump slightly. He huffed when Keith started chuckling, sending a glare at him. But it softened almost instantly, Lance unable to stay annoyed with Keith’s bed head in existence.
“Good morning babe.” He hummed, deciding to snuggle closer. They stayed like that for a while, longer than Lance thought they would, but it didn’t seem like Keith minded. He only shifted once, and that was because his other arm was starting to cramp. But other than that, Keith kept his hold on Lance, and Lance kept as close as he could.
It was a funny thing. Perhaps not comically funny, but one of those... cute funny things that you can’t help but smile stupidly about. Compared to the beginning of their relationship, they had certainly come a far way. While Lance was more physically affectionate, he wasn’t much of a cuddler when it came to relationships. Keith was the opposite, which had certainly surprised him after they started dating. Lance had thought he was too bony, too lanky, to stiff to cuddle with, and when it came close in his previous relationships, he would get nervous, get self conscious, and would joke his way out of it. Keith, who was as patient as he could be, had made him realize that it wasn’t true. And now… here they were, Lance wanting nothing but for them to stay like that.
…
Sunday - 10:02 am
Eventually Lance had to get up, the need to use the bathroom stronger than his want to stay in bed. When he came back, Keith had pulled the curtains back, the sun brightening up his room. He was sitting on the bed, scrolling through his phone with a bored look on his face. Lance laughed and quickly walked over to the window and looked outside, humming when he spotted a few students out and about, some enjoying the sun, others lingering in the warmth before continuing on their way to their destination. He opened the window then, breathing in the fresh air as the breeze blew into his room. It was so nice out, and for once, he actually felt energized enough to go out. He looked back to ask Keith if he was planning on anything before the movie night when he caught his boyfriend staring at him.
“What…?” He asked, raising a brow at the look he was receiving.
Something’s wrong with you.
“You’re beautiful.” Keith answered bluntly. Lance couldn’t help but falter over his words, bringing a hand up to cover his mouth to stop the stupid sounds that were leaving. He quickly turned away, a pout on his face when he heard Keith chuckle at his embarrassment.
He’s lying. How can someone like you look beautiful? You’re ugly… Maybe he’s making fun of you… You did just wake up after all…
Lance winced, trying to push back the frown that tug at the corners of his mouth. He hadn’t done his morning routine, hadn’t even gotten dress and Keith had complimented him. He couldn’t help as his eyes drifted towards his mirror, taking in his appearance, lingering on every small detail. His hair was an utter mess, sticking up in odd angles and clearly tangled. Parts of it was still straight from when he did it yesterday, but other parts had started to lose it’s form, curling and adding to the mess. His freckles also seemed to stand out more, the sunlight acting as a spotlight on his splotchy skin. The bruise was more prominent than ever, dark black and blue. It looked as painful as it was. He could also see where he had bit his lip, an angry red sticking out compared to the usual color. He didn’t even want to look at his body, already feeling how his limbs were too long, his shoulders sticking out and the faint pain in his hand and-
How…? How can he say that I’m beautiful? I’m not-
“To me you are beautiful. You may not think it, hell you may not believe me right now Lance, but god… To me you are... so beautiful.” Keith said suddenly, his arms wrapping around him as he tried to pull his gaze away from the mirror. “Everything you think is wrong, I think is fine. I think is just another part of you that I love. The bruise reminds me just how caring, and just how brave you are, which adds to the long lists of reasons why I love you.”
Lance could feel his eyes well up, wanting to so desperately believe in what Keith was saying. And after a moment of just repeating his words in his head, he did. He tore his eyes away from his own reflection, instead looking at Keith who was looking back at him through the mirror. He swallowed down any response he had that were negative and couldn’t help but smile. It was small at first, but his laugh grew until he was full on laughing, shaking his head at his own ridiculousness. He was suppose to be the romantic in the relationship, the one to whoo Keith off his feet. Clearly, Keith was winning on the whole ‘whoo’ing’. Especially since he was taking his insecurities in account.
“Since when did you get so good at this?” He asked, leaning back and giving him a small kiss on the cheek.
“I’ve had a lot of help from someone. They… They’ve helped me through quite a bit.” Lance smiled at that, watching Keith’s eyes soften.
“Practice does make perfect.” He mused, letting his eyes close as he felt Keith’s lips on his shoulder.
“It helps that I practice on someone as incredible as you.” Lance could feel the grin before he saw it, feeling his blush warm the tips of his ears. He moved to whack Keith, but he missed when the other quickly stepped away, getting distance between them before Lance could even try to hit him again.
“Are you fu- Oh my god Keith. Stop! You’re insufferable.” Lance whined, covering his face. Keith only laughed in response, kissing his cheek quickly.
“You still love me.” He teased, moving to grab his clothes.
“Shut up… Help me figure breakfast out before I kick your ass out.” Lance grumbled, grabbing a pillow and chucking it at him..
“You won’t kick me out.”
“No I won’t… But it is tempting.”
…
Sunday - 5:49 pm
Most of their day was spent outside, Lance convincing Keith that it would be a better place to do homework than going to the library. It gave Lance a bit more energy when he was outside, no longer cooped up in his room where he stored his multiple emotional breakdowns. It was an entirely different feeling being outside, plus he really liked being out in the sun. He had also done fairly well homework wise, tackling some of his smaller assignments while also getting a big chunk out of his group project done. He had to admit, as stressful as the assignments were, it did make him feel better too, a sense of accomplishment washing away the thoughts that called him useless. Plus, all his focus was spent on his homework that he had forgotten about his thoughts for a good while.
As the sunlight began to melt together into the oncoming sunset, Lance figured he had done enough for the day, stretching out his back and listening to it crack. He saved his work before closing his laptop, stretching his legs out next. He looked over to Keith to ask if he was ready to call it the quits, but he stopped when he saw the scowl on his face, clearly reading about something he didn’t like in the article before him. He kept his laughter to himself, pulling his phone out to let Keith finish reading. Or continue… It honestly all depended on how much his professor’s hated him. He looked through his notifications, snorting when he saw a preview of Hunk’s messages.
[Hunk]: Lance McClain
[Hunk]: My bro for life
[Hunk]: The only man I would ever fall in love with other than Gordon Ramsay.
[Hunk]: The Ocean to my Beach
[Hunk] The Jelly to my Peanut Butter
[Hunk]: The Shark Boy to my Lava Girl
[Hunk]: If you don’t show up to Movie Night, I will personally hunt you down and drag you here out of pure love.
Lance choked on laughter as he read through his messages, unable to stifle it down. It took him a minute to actually calm down enough to actually type a reply, waving Keith off when he asked if he was okay.
[Lance]: A little dramatic there aren’t you?
[Hunk]: I came to pick you up and you’re not here ):
[Hunk]: Where are you T^T
[Lance]: I’m on the quad. Was doing homework with Keith
[Hunk]: Ah
[Hunk]: Had me worried there bud. Also didn't know Keith was back. Make sure he comes too. Tell him I made food for everyone, including the chicken dip
“Hunk said to make sure you came to Movie Night. He made chicken dip.” Lance relayed, giggling when Keith’s eyes seemed to light up as he began to eagerly pack his things.
“Tell him thanks.”
[Lance]: Keith said you are a blessing and that he’s definitely coming.
[Hunk]: Did he really tho?
[Lance]: In his own, Keith-y way.
He pocketed his phone then, joining Keith in packing up. He made sure they didn’t leave anything behind, garbage or otherwise before tugging Keith along.
“Someone’s excited.”
“Hunk made food. Of course I am!” Lance snorted, slipping his hand into Keith’s.
…
Sunday - 6:35 pm
“You’re late bitches!”
“Pidge!” Shiro yelled in his warning voice. Lance and Keith followed Shiro into his apartment, Lance grinning towards Pidge who was sitting upside down on the couch.
“How dare you refer to me that way. I am the Boss Ass Bitch.” Lance joked, going as far as posing, hand under his chin.
“Oh my god.” He heard Keith and Shiro.
“Welcome Lance.” Allura laughed, dropping a pile of blankets onto the floor beside the couch followed by Adam who dropped a bunch of pillows.
“Hey bud.” Adam chuckled, ruffling his hair.
“My hair!” Lance whined, quickly swatting Adam’s hands away before fixing it, glaring when the older student simply just laughed.
He plopped onto his usual spot on the couch, grabbing the pile of movies from the table to see what everyone had picked, grinning when he saw a few of the group’s favorites. Shiro and Adam were setting up the T.V, occasionally bickering about some of the cords. He could hear Hunk rummaging around in the kitchen, Pidge informing him that he wouldn’t let anyone in because he wanted to finish up with his food. Keith was pulling out the movies he and Lance picked, tossing them over after snorting at Lance’s choice. He passed the movies to Pidge then, who sat at the other end of the couch. Allura sat next to them then and they started working together to figure out what order the movies should go in, Allura being the one who normally did it.
“What? You don’t like musicals?” He asked as Keith placed their bags by the door.
“It’s just always amusing to watch everyone sing along to all of the songs. Besides, it’s better than the alternative.” He shrugged before taking up his spot besides Lance, taking the edge of the couch.
“What was the alternative?” Hunk asked as he emerged from the kitchen finally, holding several plates of food. He sat them on the table neatly, going into the kitchen once more to get the rest of the stuff. Once he had finally set everything up, Lance stood up.
“Hunk Garret! My bro for life, the only one I’d leave Keith for-”
“Fair enough.” Keith mumbled, the rest of their friends snickering.
“-The Lava Girl to my Shark Boy, the beach to my ocean, the peanut butter to my jelly! I have arrived!” Lance cried, tossing himself at Hunk once his arms were free. Hunk laughed, giving him what Lance called his famous bear hug.
“It’s about time you came. I was ready to go out and find you.” He laughed, sitting them down onto the couch with a tired puff.
“Blame Keith. He forgot to pick a movie out so we had to stop by his place to get something.” He quickly said, yelping when Keith gave him pointed look.
“No. We’re late because I had to convince you not to pick the Bee movie.” He grumbled.
“What!? You stopped him from picking the Bee movie!? You fool! That movie is gold!’ Pidge whined.
“Thank you!” Lance yelled, reaching out to hold Pidge’s hand.
“It would have been the Bee’s knees.” Shiro said suddenly, a chorus of groans as a response.
“On second thought, thank god you didn’t. Shiro would have made stupid puns all night.” Pidge grumbled.
“What!? My puns aren’t that bad…” Shiro pouted.
“No offense babe… but they’re as bad as you’re cooking.” Adam piped in, connecting the computer to the T.V. while Shiro was distracted. Shiro whined in offense, the group laughing as he pouted to himself. They only laughed more when Adam leaned over to peck his cheek which made Shiro then smile.
“How are you feeling Lance?” Allura asked, passing the first movie to Adam so he could plug it in.
“I’m… getting there.” He offered, thinking about it for a moment. The thoughts were buzzing at the back of his head, but it was easy not to listen to them while he was with friends and while he was genuinely having a good time. So he said as much. “It’s better being surrounded by everyone rather alone. Just… took me a while. I also got some much needed sleep.” He laughed.
“I’m glad you are here with us Lance. It would not have been the same if one of us were missing.” She said, rubbing his arm a bit with a smile. Lance smiled back and nodded.
“We’re all glad.” Keith added, the rest of them all sounding in agreement. Lance could feel tears well again, quickly waving his hand in front of his face.
“Okay! We all need to stop being sappy now before I start crying!” Lance shouted, hiding his face into Keith’s chest. He snuggled closer when he heard everyone laugh.
God I love them…
They don’t love you. They’re all lying… There’s no way they’re actually glad to see you here.
No… They do.
Lance shoved his thoughts back bitterly, the urge to fist fight himself growing. He huffed and adjusted himself, absorbing the warmth of his friends instead. He was getting annoyed with his thoughts now, getting agitated with the way it would shove into his life when he was genuinely having a good time. It was a stupid cycle Lance was trapped in, one that he was working on escaping. Hopefully… one day he would be able to.
“Alright, let’s dig in!” Hunk yelled, the group cheering.
…
After passing food around, everyone settled down together, Adam and Shiro taking a spot on the floor in front of the couch. The rest of them piled onto the couch, comfortably cuddling with one another as the movie started. Lance hummed happily as he leaned back against Keith and Hunk, snuggled between them. He nibbled on his food, looking over his friends and watching them, smiling as he kept an eye on all of his friends. They all looked comfortable, smiles on their faces when they weren’t stuffing their faces with Hunk’s food. On occasion someone would quote the movie making the rest of them laugh or join in. In the privacy of Shiro’s apartment, everyone seemed to relax more, be more of themselves, be happy. It was nice.
So maybe he wasn’t exactly okay this week. Maybe he was still struggling. But right now…
He was more okay then he had been all week.
