[Background]

Kalan was born in the Underdark to another name. When they were born, their mother was grateful to have another daughter. She raised them in the family business: kidnapping poor souls lost in the wilderness of the Underdark and selling them as slaves in the drow cities. They grew up with several sisters, almost all by different fathers, most of whom were victims of their mother’s trade. Kalan’s father was no exception. He was an elf man who their mother had captured and kept for several years. Kalan’s birth name actually translated directly to “Elf Slave”. Like the rest of their siblings, their mother named them for their origin.

When Kalan was still young, their father vanished. They were too afraid of their mother to ask what had happened to him. They held onto the guilt of never asking or trying to help him for a long time. Had he died? Had he been sold? Had he escaped? These questions haunted them well into adulthood.

When they hit puberty, they realized something was different about them. Their sisters’s bodies all changed in ways that theirs wasn’t. While they developed curves and began to bleed, Kalan’s body stayed angular and without sign of sexual change. Their sisters often pushed them around, calling out their boyish traits.

They fantasized about running away during this time. All they wanted was to escape. They were repulsed by their mother’s trade and hated how they were treated in their family. Lolth was never on their mind. They were more afraid of their own mother than any god.

One day, while out with one of their sisters scouting for potential victims, they were attacked by a bulette. Their sister was injured immediately and Kalan was faced with three options: stay and die fighting, run home, or run away. They didn’t hesitate to run away.

They survived a while on their own but ended up with a broken leg after a bad fall. They were found by a group of Eilistraeans who helped nurse them back to health and get them to the surface. On the surface, Kalan began to heal. They came to terms with their gender identity and worked as a mercenary and hunter to survive.

They eventually joined an adventuring group, along with Atlas, Vald, and Xyrra. They were with this adventurer group when they were picked up by the mind flayer ship.

Kalan has a bit of a rough personality. They can come off as bratty and abrasive. They are also sexually prolific as a way of expressing new found freedom but struggle with emotional vulnerability due to years of abuse.

[Fun Facts]

Kalan’s name just means elf and comes from turning their birth name masculine and dropping the suffix which meant “slave”. This was his way of rejecting his mother’s heritage.

His natural hair is a pale blonde but he dyes it brown to resemble his father’s more.

In game he dates Astarion for a bit before deciding to only be friends. He ends up with Halsin at the end of the game.

I promise I won’t spam you with my ocs lmao, I just had to jump on the chance to bring up Lorcan because he’s one of my faves and I never talk about him anymore so I promise it’ll just be him and Cernnunos (and no pressure to answer either).

❤️ - Anyway this is Lorcan, he’s a fighter and necromancer multiclass. He’s part of an AU for my main durge and he’s the eldest of my 4 bhaalspawn siblings. Can be summed up into tired older brother and tired dad. He got a little power hungry trying to escape Bhaal (he’s my heaviest redemptive durge) and made an attempt at godhood that left him like half dead (or undead) and practically immortal. Now probably a couple thousand years old and just trying to get on with life. He’s been through a lot of trauma but he deals with it in mostly healthy ways and also puts a lot into looking out for and caring for others. A definite shoulder to cry on and always has soothing words for anyone needing comfort. I swear I’m so normal about him and I’m trying very hard to be in this ask and not infodump a paragraph about him but he’s one of my faves lmao

I’m going to say I think Kalan would absolutely go for him. I don’t have any screenshots on hand of Kalan so here are some picrew references.

Kalan is pretty young as far as drow/elves go. His mother is a drow and his father an elf and, like most drow tavs, he has a lot of trauma. His coping mechanism is partaking in reckless behavior. Lorcan would have him like 👀 but the more time he spent around him, the more he would realize he genuinely likes him. Kalan would work his way up to emotional vulnerability and would try his best to bring something to any theoretical relationship as well. He would want Lorcan to be able to rely on him emotionally as well. Kalan can be a bot abrasive at times so he works well with patient (and admittedly older) partners (why he romances Halsin in the end).

Headcanon: the SG1 team kept contact with Merrin, Tomin, Kalan and the Orbarian people and got to watch the Urrone children who've gone through the Averium grow up.

Several years before his death, but long enough after the creation of the Priests that there’s like, twenty kids around, Rathma is meditating with some of the kiddies. Allegedly, the kids are supposed to be trying to meditate too. In reality, most of them are napping. Rathma does not mind this. Kalan would complain, if he saw, but the old nephalem understands that tiny humans need their tiny rest, and most six year olds aren’t going to be able to properly meditate anyway. It’s more introducing the concept and starting a routine with them than anything.

Rathma, however, is a little Too Good at meditating. Totally zones out. Loses all track of himself, and the kids, for like an hour.

The children are slowly but surely making their way into his lap (very specious), under his cloak (good hiding spot), or just smushed up against him (He is very warm, and they are very small.). He comes out of meditation only to find himself utterly entrapped by younglings.

This is acceptable.

Kalan does wander by, and would complain about how it is very much not nap time but for the single eye his old master cracks open to glare at him with. He decides the image is too sweet to really begrudge it.
