Mother: Kalan’s mother was a slaver in the Underdark, capturing any wayward soul lost in the wilderness to take back and sell at drow cities. Her daughters worked for her as soon as they could walk. She treated her children as nothing more than employees she didn’t have to pay, making the complicit in her vile career. Kalan fled the first chance they got.

Sisters: Kalan’s sisters were vile like their mother but united by their jaded frustration with her. They would steal booze and get drunk together when she wasn’t looking, leading to Kalan receiving his first experiences with alcohol when he was still a child. Despite their common tormentor, they were still mean spirited to each other and Kalan grew to become a target of bullying thanks to his androgynous body.

Father: When Kalan was still a small child and working in their mother’s house instead of in the wilderness, they were briefly accompanied by the elf that was their father. Their father had been an elf their mother captured and took a fancy to. He was the only source of kindness Kalan had ever experienced. They held onto that memory, even after their father disappeared when they were still little.

Part of him wanted to learn from and combat disease, and part of him wanted to weaponize it as a weird way of paying tribute to them.

so I'm reading Star Trek: The Klingon Gambit, which is quite likely one of the worst Star Trek novels every made, but also I'm reading the German translation and the Klingon captain calls one of his officers a larkfucker ("Lerchenficker") and it's so funny to me that possibly the first use of the word fuck in an officially licensed Star Trek property is in a translated book from the early 1980s

Kalan and Me

What inspired you to create them?

I made my og set of characters so i could romance each companion. I settled on making Kalan to match with Halsin. I wanted someone equally as restless and with as high of a libido. Everything else built up naturally from there.

What do you and them have in common?

I guess we both can get a little sassy? Kalan has a lot of stuff going on that isn’t actually that relatable for me lol

What’s something you admire about them that you don’t see in yourself?

The way Kalan can just enjoy life. They don’t get weighed down by their emotional baggage.

What themes or moods do they help you explore?

Kalan is about exploring totally repress trauma and guilt. They neglect their emotional self in favor of pleasure seeking.
