prompted by a stupid conversation with the spouse:
"Pocky get. No Rocky, though."
"Both together are more expensive."
(thwarted by the fact $2 + $53 > $30, but the Switch version is much cheaper than the MVS cartridge)

Why did you choose the nekomata yōkai specifically rather than any other type of kaibyō (strange cat) apparitions, like the bakeneko?
Thank you for the interesting question, I have actually wanted to answer this on stream! :) Perhaps I still will during my 2023 re:debut.
There are a variety of reasons, first of all, I really love the character of Kaenbyō Rin-chan from the 東方Project franchise, who is also a nekomata (猫又). Subsequently, I had aesthetically pictured my character in a mountainous shrine or cottage, and the nekomata are known to dwell in that kind of terrain.
I grew up with a fascination with yōkai-like entities that dangled between the living and dead; existing and not existing, in a sense. That dual divergence has always fascinated me in fiction, probably one of the reasons that the Paradox Spiral arc is my favorite story from the Kara no Kyōkai series. I grew up playing the Kiki Kaikai games as a kid (notably Pocky & Rocky, where you play as a shrine maiden and tanuki, being tasked to battle strange creatures), and then eventually fell headfirst into the 東方Project rabbit hole.
Furthermore, I loosely based the demi-god characters in my fictional novel series off of yōkai. I have greatly been influenced by Japanese mythology throughout my life. The fact that the nekomata entity plays the shamisen in a eerie manner and is often associated (or outright blamed) for the death of others kind tragically fits my personality, since I have a rather melancholic temperament and have been told by others that I have a (quote) "haunting" singing voice, plus I’m drawn in a moth-like manner to dark and mysterious events/narratives.
Thank you so much for the question! .₊̣̇.ಇ/ᐠˬ ̫ ˬ ᐟ\∫.₊̣̇.
